Fedt album fra start til slut

I really loved this, definitely my style. The band is great , the vocals just hit right. I can imagine myself listening to this on a walk when it's cooler outside.

A lot bigger sound than the Smiths on this album. Generally quite heavy when you think of Morrissey, vocals could have been better mixed they get lost in places and you always want to hear his lyrics. I have to hold my nose these days when it comes to Morrissey due to him being a bit of a dick, but as an artist in the Smiths and some solo work he is great. Stand out tracks: - Your going to need someone on your side - Certain people I know - We hate it when our friends become successful - Seasick yet still docked - I know it's gonna happen someday

Never given solo Morrisey a listen before but I actually enjoyed this album a lot. Especially the last couple. Even if it doesn't reach the heights of the Smiths he still has a great voice and wonderfully moody lyrics.

"COME ON! not *another* Morrissey album.....!!!" was my first thought upon opening this site today. Also the reason I took 3 hours before starting to listen to it. ...but....shit. Do I kind of like this album?? The guy is a grade-A jackass and yes that doesn't really matter so I guess I'm saying it to myself to justify why I actually enjoyed this unexpectedly (mostly) *rock* album that (mostly) minimizes his mopey bullshit and weird lyrics that I don't ever want to look too closely at. I remember the as-usual clumsily-titled "We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful" and hated it at the time but it's probably because I was listening to grunge that year. Goddammit though... sigh. Aside from a few classic plodders, overall this is a rather thick/heavy/nod your head album by that bellend Morrissey - never would have guessed it... Faves: "The National Front Disco" (that bass) and "Tomorrow" (that Marillion-like delay guitar hello what) 7/10 4 stars.

Not bad but also not as good as the records before this. But his lyrics are still great.

I’ve become more of a Morisey fan over the years. I liked this a lot.

I think this is one of the best morrissey albums I've had to listen to!

Good tunes. I don't like his voice though. Wrong voice for the songs.

I dig this.

I've been dreading the inevitable tide of Morrissey albums on this challenge but determined to give everything a fair crack with an open mind. Here goes... I really liked this. Yes, I struggle with his voice and knowing more about him as a person whose views I disagree with but I sat and enjoyed listening to pretty much every track of this album. The guitars are brilliant (credit to Alain Whyte and Boz Boorer, and probably Mick Ronson) and I don't hate Morrissey's dry humour on this occasion. A pleasant surprise, in spite of myself.

Really nice production balance, nice variety between tracks. Pretty unfamiliar with Morissey/The Smiths so can’t really comment like other reviewers, but this was pretty good. Enjoyed the heavier stuff a bit more but liked the satire humor in others. 3.75/5

Maybe Morrissey doesn't need another album on this list, but I still like this album. Harder rock sound than his first couple albums including Viva Hate, different rock sound (more glam?) than his comeback album You Are the Quarry. I think both those albums are better but, again, I still like this album. Punchiest tracks are You're Gonna Need Someone on Your Side, Glamourous Glue (big sound), The National Front Disco (more pop rock, but lively tempo), We Hate it When Our Friends Become Successful, and Tomorrow. Still excellent but softer tracks are We'll Let You Know, Seasick yet Still Docked, and I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday. And still so much to think about from his politically-charged and/or sexuality-ambiguous lyrics. Such a great lyricist. Another solid album.

More versatile than I was expecting from a Morrissey album - also much less maudlin. Love The Smiths, love what I already know of his solo stuff. I don't personally care that he's a racist prick, plenty of the artists on this list have questionable views and have carried out even more questionable actions (where to even begin?). You can be a racist prick and make good music, both things can be true at once. Will definitely listen again.

The best Morrissey album yet. Even without the band mates of the Smiths this still has some reminiscent vibes but also does a good job standing away from The Smiths sound at the same time. A few songs that were a bit forgettable but overall a much better listen than the last one we had. 8/10

Well this caught me offguard. I always thought of Morrissey/the Smiths as music for sad boys. There’s some of that in here, but overall I dug this a lot!

Ohh. I like this one. This is the first solo album from Morrissey where he stood out from the Smiths shadow. Off course some classic Morrissey songs already on the previous albums (Everyday is like Sunday, November spawned a monster, Suedehead, etc.) but then also a lot of fillers, and without clear direction. Here everything comes together as a whole, and with brilliant guitar work by the two sidemen Boz Boorer and Alain Whyte.

The guy may be an ass with some absolutely abhorrent views, but he's always known how to write a good song.

This guy is SO 80s. And so british. I feel like I'm watching an episode of MSIFITS. a fun listen very british "elvis costello" energy.

A lot of great tracks. 4/5

Great album

Not anything groundbreaking but some good stuff. I particularly liked Alone, Together

I was surprised that I liked this as much as I did, because I've never been a big fan of the Smiths. I really liked his voice on this.

"Your Arsenal reflected Morrissey's lament for what he regarded as the decline of British culture in the face of increasing Americanisation.[127] He told one interviewer that "everything is informed by American culture—everyone under fifty speaks American—and that's sad. We once had a strong identity and now that's gone completely"." Sorry, Morrissey, but this American loves the album. I also just get an indescribable amount of joy from the song title "We Hate When Our Friends Become Successful" because it taps into the pettiness of humans so well.

Interesting, new experience

Morrissey... Un 4.

Let me start this with “Morrissey is a Twat.” That being said, he makes damn good music. I was skeptical of a solo album without the rest of the Smiths, but it was a very solid album.

Better than I expected. I like his voice, even if it seemed a little moody at times.

BL: I've become a big Smiths fan through this generator, and now this is my first Morrissey album listen through the whole way, so it will be interesting to hear it. AL: Very solid album, there were a few tracks that just did not click for me but the good tracks are amazing. This definitely feels like something from Morrissey and not from The Smiths. Specifically National Front Disco and Certain People I Know shine through here. Good listen and I'm glad to have heard it, the production is phenomenal - one of the best mixed albums I've heard on the generator so far. FT: "You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side", "National Front Disco", "Certain People I Know", "I know It's going to happen some day" 4/5

I’ve always shit on Morrissey for the same reasons I shit on Beck, but this was enjoyable… definitely in my wheelhouse of genres I gravitate toward.

Morrisgay. Boom roasted.

3 for the music +1 for classiness.

Soft 4

I hate how much I love Morrissey.

You're the one for me, Fatty! This album grows on you.... 4/5

This is one of Morrissey’s best solo albums. It opens with a couple of heavier glam rock inspired songs before going straight into a Smiths-like slower song. There is a decent amount of rockabilly here alongside the glam influences. Overall this album is a bit beefier than his earlier work. Lyrically, there seems to be some England first stuff thrown in which is a bit concerning given some of his comments about immigration and race. It’s always been hard to know exactly what Morrissey thinks about certain topics, but I found this album to be a great listen and a worthy entry in the discography of a great artist.

Very good listen. Full of solid songs.

Yeah yeah, Moss is a clown but this is a consisten rock effort.

Four stars (sorry)

I've had 3 Morrissey albums in my first ~130 albums but think this was my favourite of the 3 so far. Although the lyrics are suitably miserable, I would listen to this again

Hey, I liked this album quite a bit. I've never really given Morrissey a chance before, but I liked the rock instrumentation and smooth singing. Above average.

Not too bad man

A massive album for Morrissey and easily one of the high points of his solo career. Your Arsenal has real swagger. The glam infused rock sound suits him perfectly and gives the record a punch that some of his other solo work lacks. The guitars are sharp, the rhythms are confident and the lyrics are classic Morrissey. Witty, cutting and slightly camp in the best possible way. There is a boldness running through the whole album. It feels focused and self assured. This is Morrissey fully leaning into his persona and making it work. You’re the One for Me, Fatty is a standout. Catchy, cheeky and unmistakably Mozza. Tomorrow is solid, but for me it does not quite reach the same heights as the strongest tracks. Favourite song: You’re the One for Me, Fatty Least favourite song: Tomorrow Album artwork: Iconic and striking. A perfect visual match for the album’s attitude A confident and stylish record that stands tall in his catalogue

Een soort singersongwriter-rock, klinkt als het Britse broertje van Chris Isaak. Nog wat verlate jaren tachtig-invloeden schemeren door, maar al met al best een fijn geluid.

Still don’t like Morrissy the person but this was pretty solid

Morrissey is generally going to start out at a 4 for me and imo this album maintained that. Nothing blew me away but I love his voice and he can turn a clever phrase like it’s no one’s business. We’ll Let You Know and the unfortunately titled You’re the One For Me, Fatty were my faves.

Fun album. Really didn't expect the first song to be so different from the Smiths. I enjoyed it though. 3.5/5

What? A Morrissey album that I actively enjoyed? Can that be right? Did essential pathways in my brain change while I wasn't looking? Do I now need to revisit the previous albums we've listened to? You'll have to excuse me while I question my entire existence.

I can't stand Morrissey the person, but I thoroughly enjoy his music. Damn you Moz & your lovely tunes.

Yup. As a person he's a real jerk, but so many great songs on this album.

Uno de los grandes de la música

Rating: 7/10 Best songs: The national front disco, We hate it when our friends become successful, Tomorrow

I really enjoyed this album. First couple of songs are bangers.

Smart, engaging and lonesome. Morrissey is original sad boy of indie rock, and he's leaning into that hard with this record. What's impressive though, is that the music is more than just "vibey" or "moody." He plays with different tempos and effects. The album comes in strong and very post-rock like with "You're Gonna Need Someone on Your Side" and "Glamorous Glue." He ends the album with a very similar vibe on "Tomorrow." Its loud, but not over the top, its noisy but its not "garage" or "experimental." Its clean and thoughtful. I love the humor in songs like "The National Front Disco" , "We Hate it When Our Friends Become Successful" and "You're the One for Me Fatty." Its ironic, serious and lonesome all at the same time. Then he plays with different sounds like folksy country "Certain People I Know" or the soulful "Seasick, Yet Still Docked." Its clever. Say what you want about Morrissey being a weirdo and an asshole, but he sure knows how to write good music that makes you feel things.

Two Morrissey albums in four days? Hasn’t it been cold and cloudy enough. This is better than You Are The Quarry but not up to the classic album level. A pretty good listen though and somewhat Smiths-like - but still not quite as good as the real thing.

Different sounds, rich vocals, creative. I liked it.

8/10 super solid Morrissey album but he’s still a piece of shit person

Solid rock album. There wasn't really a highlight track for me, but just a nice solid listen throughout.

Still can't fault his music much.

Soaring birth of Brit pop, glam rock, with a side of rockabilly. This is the album for today, dreary, mid-winter but not cold. Another artist to detach the art from the artist. This one makes it easier. I like it.

I don't think of myself as a Smiths or Morrissey fan, but this was quite good.

Excellent! Classic!

Just had Morrissey’s “Viva Hate” a few days ago and liked it well enough, so let’s see how this one goes. Yeah, I liked this one too. A strong start and finish with some less interesting tracks in the middle. Still not as good as The Smiths, but enjoyable. Favorite track: Seasick, Yet Still Docked

One of Morrissey's more interesting projects, but it was still a bit tough to get through the whole thing. It's a shame he's such a xenophobic shithead.

Wow more evidence that I actually like Morrissey's music.

Have never really liked the smiths but enjoyed this one the whole way through. Rating: 4.3

I liked this WAY more than I thought. The middle got a little boring but the first song was great and I LOVED I Know it’s gonna happen someday

More pop than I expected. Didn't love it, but can appreciate those who do

Despite all the controversy around Morrissey's views, there is some fine music on this album. The backing band impressed me.

Pleasantly Suprised, as not a fan.

Why is this so good

Pretty good, I'd probably listen again if I didn't feel like an asshole for supporting Morrissey

Morrissey that only wallows in misery and self pity half the time. I'll be honest I don't like his songwriting. Years ahead of his time though.

Singer of the Smiths?! Noticed only after the 3rd song. Am enjoying it so far. Well produced album, makes sense Bowie also liked it. 4/5

A rock solid album from Morrissey. I knew the hits and am grateful to now know the album. I’ll be returning to it!

Not the best Morrissey album (all of his best work is on the smiths other than the odd song honestly) but it is solid still, definitely take the art over the artist, and it’s a very enjoyable listen 4/5

I enjoyed it! Some of the good elements of the Smiths music without the shit elements of some of the other Smiths music

A bit of a mix of rockabilly and 70s glam rock. Sounds similar to the sound on the later albums by Stone Temple Pilots. Was probably an original sounding rock-pop album for its time, and it's very listenable.

A few good tracks. All kinda sounded the same though

Music is great but its hard to get over what a horrible person Morrissey is.

Given Morrissey's later views, it is very hard to know if tracks such as National Front Disco should be read as satirical or sympathetic. It is disappointing to see Morrissey's decline as a meaningful figure in contemporary music, because his ability to find talented musicians and producers to work with post-Smiths was exemplary as this album shows. It fair bops along with excellent guitar work with Morrissey's lyrics and delivery as impish and sarcastic as ever. Dare I say this - am I starting to enjoy more Morrissey solo albums than Smiths albums? Can this be right?

Eh. Lots of things here that I enjoy, slightly ruined by things I don't enjoy. Musically, I think this is a bit above average for me.

Liked this way more than I thought I would. Strong Bowie influence can be heard throughout.

About to grill a 72oz steak and throw this record on, I think they pair well! Morrissey the person is a cunt, his music however is a thing of beauty, fucking gets me every time!

The guy makes good music

The sweet voice of the tormented arrogance delights us with one lovely album. Great harmonies and melancholic tunes. It’s like an unexpected kiss: quick, not at its full potential, and with a weird posture.

Odličan album, nije kao Viva Hate, ali je svejedno pun dobrih stvari, plus cover mi odličan

Paskaa Paskaa pop paskaa... Täytyy muistaa morrissey rasisti... Siitä 4 tähteä... ei viiteen kykene.. hirveää musiikkia..

Not that bad: yk what I don’t mind Morrisey for the music that he produces. The jangly guitar and vocals all sounded familiar and I had a general consensus that I enjoyed the album. Don’t get me wrong there wasn’t a bunch of stand out tracks but I wouldn’t say it’s bad at all.

Shouldn't read other reviews before I've finished the whole album but strikes me as those who give a poor score are due to issues unrelated to the music. I'm on and off with Morrissey's music generally, however this is a big yes from me. 4.4

Morrissey shifts his style and incorporates glam rock, surf rock, and rockabilly, cranking up the distortion and having some sick solos. Still has the jangles, his whiny vocals, and his introspective lyrics. Unlike Viva Hate, he actually has a new hard style that often works really well for him, and he's pretty consistent in all of these tracks. There are some times where I feel they clash, like "We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful." There's usually something I like about each track, typically the guitar solos, even if I feel some of them are forgettable. He still has the energy and spunk, unlike later albums like Vauxhall and I and You Are the Quarry. It's probably my favorite of his solo work, a really pleasant surprise from a record I had fairly low expectations for. Favorites: You're Gonna Need Someone on Your Side, Glamorous Glue, Seasick yet Still Docked

I felt like Morissey was speaking to me on a personal level in “You’re the One for Me, Fatty” But also this gives me major Barenaked Lady vibes which I loved.

Nice musically, an improvement on The Smiths. As always, ruined by Morrissey's whiney voice and style. Replace him and it'd be 5 stars!

interesting album, enjoyed it quite a bit!

A really good record, maybe Morrissey’s best outside the Smiths. Unmistakable vocals and lyrics, and a good band backing him.

I liked this better then Vauxhall. Seemed more "rock" then the Smiths stuff. I'd listen to this again.

Like most Morrissey, if I'm in the right mood, it's a good album. I enjoyed it and will listen to it again.

a good one post-Smiths

Oh crap, this is not what I thought Morrissey sounded like!

It's Morrissey and here I am deciding between 4 and 5 stars!!! This is what happens when Mick Ronson is the producer. This album rocked! The mopey songs just add counterbalance.

Not exactly aggressive, but bold and a bit pompous in the best rockstar tradition. The instrumentation is skillful, the lyrics are snide and writerly, and the production is very good. However, too many of the songs sound too much alike. I’d definitely buy this album, but I can’t say it’s essential.

I've always liked the Smiths in moderation and I've respected Morrissey's solo work at a distance. Vauxhall and I was the only album I've owned and I did enjoy it. This was a real pleasant surprise that broke a lot of biases that I had about Morrissey's music. I'm not going to say I loved the whole album, but I really enjoyed the whole album end to end. I'm getting the feeling a lot of people hate this man for some reason. Idk, ignorance is bliss. I'm here for the music, not the drama.

Really good

Fun Fact: у него есть офигенный альбом 2020 года который очень нравится. Но здесь все же больше чувствуется влияние смитов и поэтому слишком далеко от канонов он не отошел

Fuck off, Morrissey. 4.5

Enjoyed this a lot, more than most Smiths to be honest. As has been covered, difficult to marry this with the fact that Morrissey's such a prick.

A rockabilly-influenced album with a lot of melodic songs on it. The production work on the album is great. Morrissey's best solo album perhaps.

This was giving me a more glam rock Orville Peck, something about this feels very queer in the best way.

I enjoyed this. I love the Smiths and this was a strong offering. Putting any current feelings about Morrissey aside.

Huge Smiths fan and this is one of Morissey's finest solo efforts. The opener is very catchy and sets the bar high for the rest of the set. Fortunately this album barely dips in quality. Mark Ronson's involvement is also a very welcome one, the Bowie influence on the songs is very cool! Just a great record with high replay value! Key tracks: You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side, Glamorous Glue, We'll Let You Know, We Hate It When Our Friends Become Succesful, You're The One For Me, Fatty, Seasick, Yet Still Docked, 8 out of 10

racism be damned, my boy can sing!

Hate him but this is good.

Enjoyed this...always like the Smiths but haven't always like Morrissey solo. This was a good one. 4/5

Hirveen vähän oon tätä kuunnellut, vaikka Morrisseytä ja Smithsiä tosi tosi paljon kyllä. Oon joskus 90-luvulla ostanut tän isälleni joululahjaksi ja se kyllä kuuntelee tätä kaiken aikaa. Ihan kelpo kevyhän tämäkin on, olin unohtanut miten rok tää paikoittain on. Mua ihmetyttää välillä Morrisseyn rohkeus, miten se kehtaakin laulaa no, vaikka kateudesta? Eihän kukaan kehtaa.

Really enjoyed this one. This guy definitely was an influence on the bands I listen to. First half was better than the last half.

Just fine and just what one would expect from him. Best songs are “Certain People” and “We Hate It When…” and “Tomorrow” (especially the cute little piano fadeout). One might prefer other of his solo releases (this one starts a bit unnecessarily rocking), but have pretty much enjoyed pretty much everything he’s ever put out, including this. 3.8 > 4

Very good

I am sure Morrissey was not the most pleasant person to be around. But the sadness in his music is an extension of himself and his complicated mind - so for that I can appreciate him.

любимая песня: i know it's gona happen some day

Another Morrissey Album and another good time. Although this time it was less brit-poppy and more rocky/rockabilly, it was again a decent performance. Again, not standout song that drives the album after a overall good album with a perfect runtime

More impressed with Morrissey the more I hear him

This was a pretty solid Morrissey album. I have a limited subset of his songs in my general rotation and none of these are them. Mostly rock and with predictable rhythms, but with that trademark voice that I like and the rambling and the weird noise that I also like. Overall, just a solid album. My favorite part was the piano nod at the very end to Sing me to Sleep, a great song and worthy of the musical hat tip.

I notice that my (rare and inconsistent) scores correlate quite closely to whether I can play the songs on the guitar. A low bar to be sure. This was one of the most well-worn albums of my college years, and most often listened to in my car on trips to and from Richmond/NoVA—side A of the tape was this album and side B was Bona Drag and I’d get through both on the ride. Clearly I’m dating myself because today, that same trek would require at least 4 albums. Or the Hamilton soundtrack 1.5 times. I listened to this album so much that the tape sounded warped, so I had to invest 15 of my 1993 dollars in a CD which limited my listening to my one and only CD played in my dorm. Hence the driving soundtrack. I originally started this review by recounting what each song evokes for me. But then I realized that that’s just an n of one and won’t mean much to anyone else. As I listen to this album with 47-year-old ears, I get why it’s not that impressive to others. But my 18-year-old ears couldn’t get enough. I like the rockabilly sound of some of the songs (You’re Gonna Need Someone on Your Side, the lullaby of others (We’ll Let You Know), the battlecry of I Know it’s Gonna Happen. We Hate it When Our Friends Become Successful was, embarrassingly, resonated for me well into my 20s. But the perfect juxtaposition of yester-Bethany and present-day-Bethany is You’re the One for Me Fatty. My self-conscious, distorted body-imaged-self found this to be my personal theme song at the time. I even think my stupid college boyfriend “jokingly” serenaded me with this song. I don’t know what the hell it’s supposed to mean. But since Queen says Fat-Bottomed Girls make the rocking’ world go ‘round, I’m gonna go with England is more accepting of all body types (please don’t ruin this for me). But honestly I love the drums and little guitar riff. I guess music, at least for me, is all about relating to something in the songs. And I need a lot of time with an album to find the connection. Kind of like friends. Luckily I spend a lot more time with people than I do on this activity or I’d live the sad little life that Mr. Asshole Morrissey is living now.

Like fish without chips, like torville without dean, like united without Ferguson… it’s decent but it’s just not the same. Viva la Smiths!

7/10. Pretty good.

Decent Morrissey. I forgot to rate this right when I listened to it but I feel like I remember it being a bit more uptempo than his other solo album we got. 7/10

I always thought that Morrissey was an ass. I still think that. But this album is pretty damn good

Pop-rock. Klinkt goed. Leuk album. ****

While I've never been a fan of The Smiths, I really enjoyed this album. Morrisey's voice is pleasant, and lyrically and melodically, it's re-listenable.

You don’t have to like him to know this is a really good album.

Nice to hear some raw rock morrisey

I kind of stopped paying attention to what Morrissey was up to after his first 2 solo albums. Turns out that was a mistake, because Your Arsenal is pretty fantastic. The album starts off with a surprisingly harder edge than you would expect, which really works for Morrissey. He is more in tune with his band on this album than he had been up to that point and it's probably a more cohesive group of songs as a result. Morrissey's self deprecating yet acidic humor remains, but there's something else as well. There's disappointment and regret, as well as a vulnerability that feels honest, making these some of the most relatable songs I've ever heard from him. The album lacks a strong pop single a la "Suedehead" or "Everyday is Like Sunday," but taken on the whole, this is an excellent collection of songs. This may in fact be his best album. Fave Songs: I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday, You're Gonna Need Someone on Your Side, Glamorous Glue, We'll Let You Know, Certain People I Know, Seasick, Yet Still Docked

¡Vaya sorpresa! Songs: You're Gonna Need Someone on Your Side, Tomorrow

En especial me gustó "You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side".

This isn’t the best he’s done, but I love what he does and this works well throughout.

A song that was in mid90s

This is great!

Really good. Unsurprisingly heavy given what Morrissey was doing before and after. Also seems to be from before he completely lost the plot

He’s not someone I would hang out with, but I can’t deny he creates some good music. The opening track is my favorite.

Doing some quick catch up. Liking this so far. Also a bit not what I expected from Morrisey; not as mopey as I might have guessed. Nothing super special, I guess, but I'll round up.

😍🤮

cool and enjoyable

Not bad. Solid.

Good one, Moz

Wow, how did I miss this one for thirty years? I guess I just lost track of Morrissey at some point. This album rocks, and Morrissey sounds great on it. I loved it.

I've never been a huge fan of The Smiths and didn't expect to like this much but then You're Gonna Need Someone on Your Side started with Peter Gunns a-blazin' and made me all, like, whoa. I also loved the next track, the driving Glamorous Glue, and the last two tracks I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday and Tomorrow. The tracks in the middle were more what I expected and kind of mushed all together for me. But the tracks I liked were enough to push this from a 3 to a 4.

When I first saw this next listen I wasn’t thrilled. Morrissey conjures images of too-cool college music I never really related to. I’m not in the mood for angsty, miserable music… It was with some surprise that I enjoyed the first track, “You’re Gonna Need Someone On Your Side.” It rocked more than I expected - I enjoyed it. Then “Glamorous Glue” sounded a bit more rock than I expected. The third song, which was closer to what I had initially expected, was still pretty good if not my favorite. So what’s this? I’m enjoying Morrissey? I loved “The National Front Disco.” What? You can dance to Morrissey? “We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful” gave me a chuckle. Not entirely sure what to make of “You’re The One For Me, Fatty”… but it is catchy. “I Know It’s Gonna Happen Someday” is downright optimistic… What’s this? A hopeful Morrissey song?! And closing the album with a request for a hug? It looks like I… misjudged. I liked this a whole lot more than expected. I still could use a bit more vocal variety, and I’m not sure I can distinguish a lot of the songs as they kind of blend together, but I enjoyed this. Maybe not something I’ll often play from start to finish often but I wouldn’t object to it, and there are a lot of songs I will happily revisit again.

Great album

Morriseylla on hieno ääni ja fraseeraus, mikä luo teksteihin viiltävän sävyn. Myös musan puolesta aika jees. En tiiä annanko näitä liikaa mut 4/5

This was cool - you forget how cool he was these days, now you know he’s become such a twat

Was One of my favorites when I was 18

A lot better (and upbeat) than I thought it would be.

Whilst it's becoming increasingly hard to divorce the art from the individual, I'm still not yet to let Morrissey go. This is certainly not the album I'd choose to make a greatest albums of all time list, but it does represent an interesting point in his career with vestiges of Smiths sounds evident in much of the content.

Ok ahora sí escucho las raíces de Pablo honey.4

Really, mine?

Fuck Morrissey but yeah great album

Liked this one. Bass playing is great, songs are good. A little whiney though. Would check out again

Tomorrow is my favorite.

It's not the best album of Morrissey, but four songs saved it, hence 3.5* which is equal 4*

I love Glamorous Glue, Certain People I Know, You’re the One for Me Fatty, national front disco, and I know it’s gonna happen someday. I’m digging the rock vibes and also smoothness of this album it’s something I can have on in the background and just enjoy

Morrissey is just as irreverent as ever, and a lot of tracks on here jams, even if they aren't Smiths-tier masterpieces. I'll be putting "National Front Disco" on repeat for a few days, though!

A segunda metade não é tão boa quanto a primeira e fuck you Morrissey, porém discaço.

Yes it's Morrissey. I'm not as bothered by his voice as others, although time has proven him to be just as disagreeable publicly as his bandmates found him privately. Still, his solo work has touches of The Smiths with some extra rock riffs and typically sardonic lyrics.

El Morrisey más sucio y ruidoso. Psicobilly y glam, pop esquisi. Mi favorito del prenda.

Just about my favourite Morrissey solo album but some of the more problematic lyrics seem even more questionable in light of his recent madnesses.

Morrissey...

Yo a Morrissey no lo puedo criticar. Cualquier cosa que haga me parecerá de bien para arriba. Puede que sea este su disco con menos éxitos pero para mi está bien. Y las tres canciones seguidas que forman: Certain people I know, We hate it when our friends become successful y You're the one for me, Fatty.

ach ist schon sehr nice - 4

A good 15 years since I've heard the full album, it's still a banger

I had never heard of Morrissey, but did kind of like this.

So much 90s angst. I loved it!

Rocking and rolling with morrissey, who would want more

1st Morrisey exposure, need to check it out more

Both of what everyone else's reviews are saying

Quite possibly the most British album I’ve ever heard.

Surprising, given what I've heard from Morrissey so far.

The smiths leading vocalist will always have the quality of voice needed to carry a record in the vocal department and the production is of high quality but I'm not sure what the story is behind this solo release but it feels like a album meant to create an individual persona and sound separate from the smiths and in such it takes the hardest left from his usual sound to make sure of that, it's not bae just feels like a statement piece as opposed to a project that was absolutely toiled over. Glamorous Glue is my favorite here tho

I thought he sounded familiar, I had one of his albums earlier. This one is slightly better, but still not very good. I didn't hate it like the last one.

The vocals got annoying after a while, but musically it wasn't too bad.

You Are the Quarry was vibed with me much better. This is a weak 3.

Pa čak mi je i okej ovaj album, začudo! Prva stvar i Certain people I know su mi dobre skroz. Solidna trojčica! 3/5, 6/10

My first introduction to this artist, can't say I found anything to like or dislike. Fairly *okay* soft rock sound, decent voice.

I was pleasantly surprised by this album. I enjoyed many of the tracks.

Very mid Morrissey, I have to say. Mick Ronson does what he can around the edges, but it seems very random, like he's working on a different album. Moz's songwriting should be the focus, but maybe no? Why is We'll Let You Know? (I think I maybe detected a racial theme amongst all that.) But yes, Glamorous Glue and We Hate It When are good. The rest, I dunno. 3/5 for the talent and the attempt, I guess, though I'm tempted to dock a star for the incipient fascism.

obligatory he's a twat but this was pretty good

Why is it that I like the music, tolerate the lyrics, and dislike the man? Always makes me feel conflicted listening to Morrissey.

The album was enjoyable, but I think I prefer the Smiths to the solo career for Morrissey.

keep it in your pants moz

Overall, I like Morrissey's work as an artist, but this album was not that exciting to me. It was listenable, but not really what I would listen to if I was looking for some Smiths or Morrissey.

it's not exactly my thing, but i can see the appeal. as an aside, what a cover!

I thought I had this album, but turns out I don't. First few tracks are lacking something, the music is just uninteresting. There are a couple of standouts, but I have heard some live versions of these songs that sounds much better. Mid-Morissey, Vauxhall & I better be on the list! 3 Heard before? Some Owned: No. 82/323 (25%) Will I get: No

3 - decent

#971. How is there like eleventy three Morrissey/The Smiths albums on here, but none of them have How Soon is Now? on them, which is the only good song he had anything do with? 3/5: I managed to get through the whole thing.

Rate it

Solid Britrock

So far, I think Morrissey's solo career was better than his atrocious career with The Smiths. This album is more than his normal dreary wrath, and has some slick instrumental play, and fun moments. I just can't justify giving Morrissey a higher rating than this though. Favorite Track: "We'll Let You Know".

Fuck Morrissey

Parts of this are more upbeat than all the Morrissey cliches would lead one to believe.

Óþolandi gaur en góður tónlistarmaður og textahöfundur. Sóló stöffið samt ekki næstum jafn gott og Smiths.

He's not as whiny and annoying as usual, and the music has moved towards a rockier sound.

Yes, yes, very nice Morrissey, irritatingly. Not actually his best, in my opinion - just lacking any really juicy bangers. All his other albums have at least one stone-cold stonker that you can sing for hours after. While this one is pretty consistent and an enjoyable listen, it doesn't really deliver on that front.

Still don't care for Morrissey personally, but I don't think that really factors in to this being a 3 for me.

It was pretty alright.

Thought this was decent. Never gonna be a patch on the smiths but enjoyable enough. Bonus mark for arsenal

More rock oriented than I was expecting which was nice, but I didn’t hear a lot of really memorable songs.

Lots of typical Morrisey going on here but with some heavier rock elements that maybe don't suit him as well as the Smiths' sound, but he's always compelling.

wow what a whiny boy poor me poor me album! i know some people to recommend this to...lyrics kinda sucked but the music was nice. favourite song: we'll let you know

Morrissey without the rest of The Smiths is like a virgin mojito. Sure, it tastes good and it lessens your thirst on a sunny day; but you don’t get a buzz. My analogies suck.

The songs on "Arsenal" are far less dismal and dreary than what I've heard from Morrissey before, either with The Smiths or as a solo act. In fact, some of these songs sound almost optimistic and mainstream -- maybe a little too mainstream.

Morrissey is trying here he is searching for a style that fits him best. Some of it works and once you get into the groove of his heavy guitar and sad voice you stay to live in it. That’s the thing though anytime it’s not heavy guitar it’s droney and sometimes annoying. The highs are really high here though “well let you know” is my favorite morrissey song and it is incredible. So chaotic and well mixed it feels like a full destruction of the mind and the true sadness of living in a city and not fitting in and people making you become someone you aren’t morrisey is crying for help. He can’t be with The Smiths he can’t find his own sound and he just weeps and looks for a way. A truly human cry for help that helped me through a lot of hard moments and revisiting it now in a different stage I can’t help but feel bad for morrisey. This man is trapped in his own creation and he is trying to find his own way out yet you can’t stick to anything. I mean this album literally starts with surf rock out of nowhere and it’s cool but it’s clear he is just trying things and it all doesn’t work. I don’t hate this I just feel it’s more Brit pop.

Some great songs, some nice ones. 3.5

His lyrics are fantastic...his autobiography a hoot...the Smiths were great....and his role as a curmudgeon spot on. Solo stuff....well, its not the Smiths is it. And therein lies the priblem.

Was like The Smiths without Johnny Marr. Mid but do appreciate the uniqueness of Morrisey's voice and I enjoyed it. Shoutout out to You're The One For Me Fatty

I love The Smiths so it’s absolutely beyond me that Morrissey has more albums from his solo career on his list than the band that made him famous! This is perfectly fine but it’s not the same without Marr and company I’m afraid

Well deserved PSG. Dislike the team and its supporters. Given my dislike of mozza I quite enjoyed this. A few catchy tunes and clever lyrics but all very recognizably Morrissey/Smiths ish. Esp Your the One for me Fatty.

Your Arsenal I enjoyed this, much more than the other two Morissey solo albums on the list. Musically I’ve not been a fan of those, but this felt much more interesting and fun, there’s a kind of glammed up rockabilly twang to it, especially on the first two tracks, and it has an energy and punchiness that I felt You are the Quarry and Vauxhall & I were missing. He’s obviously still pissy and moany, but lyrically it feels far less self pitying and solipsistic, bringing some of the humour and observationalism of The Smiths, giving the songs a more welcome lighter touch. I don’t quite think it makes a 4, it obviously isn't on a par with The Smiths, but it’s better than the 2 stars I gave the other two solo albums, so by process of elimination it's a 3. 🍑🍑🍑 Playlist submission: You’re Gonna Need Someone on Your Side

It’s alright, by no means Morrissey’s best work. Lots of Bowie-esque, Lou reedish music behind Moz’s usual lyricism. Some of it good, some of it mid. It’s just funny having fatty in a song title. 3.0/5.0 Best Song: hmmm

A pleasant enough listen, their is a sound to a lot of the Morrisey stuff i don't like so much. Can't put my finger on it all the time though. Feels a bit overproduced this album? It's a bit clean soundng? Couple of good songs on it though Best Track: We Hate it When Our Friends Become Successful

cover gave me such an ick I couldnt even focus on the music men shouldnt leave bands cause everytime it started sounding a bit more like The Smiths it got better

Very tasteful for a punk rock album. I really enjoyed sea sick yet still docked.

Three stars

I forget how good his voice is, even when the songs are not the strongest. I think I stopped buying his records just before this album. I don't think this is as good as his earliest solo stuff and that wasn't as good as The Smiths so it gets a 3.

I liked this enough. You can really hear a lot of different bands in here from stroke 9 to the national and everything in between.

I know of this artist haven't listened to much of Morrisey's catalogue but I do know of the Smiths. Pretty cool sounding album so far. Very rocking, not expected fro Morissey

Take the smiths but make it more rock, overall good background music however not something I would be amazed by

first listen it's fine

Tiene sus momentos. ME gusta mucho lo instrumental, después morrisey pega el cantazo :p

its morrissey time and im facing it calm. he sounds quite alt here but is still as whiny as usual and i dont know how to deal with this news. 3/5

Terrific production, at least on the latest remaster. If only The Smiths could have recorded albums that sound this good.

fine 3 stars and would probably revisit

SEVEN Morrissey albums on here 🤦🏻‍♂️ I mean this one is OK but we really wouldn't be any worse off (and maybe a bit more cheerful) if he had decided to take a completely different career path. But thanks be for Johnny Marr.

5.5/10 - I heard “You are the Quarry” and I thought “Morrisey really pulled extra weight in The Smiths”. I heard this and thought, “ Johnny Marr and the other two (respectfully) deserved more praise.”

This is a pretty good solo album for Morrissey, but I think it's pretty clear he's at his best with Johnny Marr on guitar and The Smiths' killer rhythm section. The instrumentals aren't boring per se, but the instrumentals of The Smiths perfectly complement Morrissey's whining. 7/10

This was my first Morrissey solo album. While this isn't a bad album and there are some songs I quite like, this isn't the Smiths. Another review on here says this album makes you realize Johnny Marr was the heart of the Smiths. I don't agree with that. I think they're both the heart, they suit each other and make each other better. Though this album probably does need some Johnny Marr. Also why are there more Morrissey solo albums than Smiths albums on this list?

honestly was lowkey digging this until morrissey started being morrissey

Went into this only knowing one track was pleasantly surprised there are some good songs on here brilliantly performed

Album 28/1001. Listened 4/16/2026. I get the appeal of Morrissey, and this album is definitely good, but it's just not my jam.

Not too partial to the smiths so this is fine

When at Uni all the cool-kids seemed to listen to Morrissey - and wanted every else to know that they listened to Morrissey for some reason. As of me being today years old - this is an artist I had not heard a single song from. After completing the album Im still not sure if Cool Uni kids listened because: a: they actually liked Morrisey b: they publicly enjoyed the high ground snobbery this provided over the uncool mainstream artists After hearing the album I can say I sorta get it - I thought it was going to be "nearly all B" review but Ill give this a 50/50 between "A" & "B" and a moderately surprised/impressed 3 stars

Always liked The Smiths, like his voice. First time with this album, quite liked it. I don't think I want to have a beer with him but I rarely do with the artists I listen to. Docked a star for being a dick.

Good but a bit sleepy

Nemyli niekas jo, pretty much visas albumas

Pre listen: oh god not more fucking Morrissey. Post listen, eh not as bad as I thought. 3.

Another day, another so so Morrissey album. Get some therapy, dude!

Too bad he is a racist

Not as good as his work with the Smiths, but not bad.

Went into this one expecting to be annoyed, but it was pretty good.

I said this with the other Morrissey album. I like The Smiths, but something about solo Morrissey is really lacking.

Always impressed by his voice. The music was once again very beautiful.

Strong 3 stars.

Too much Morrisey lately…

Pretty nice 80's UK vibe. Solid 3. Would listen on the radio but not compelled to buy album. Three stars

Standard disclaimer: I'm separating art from the artist. Morrissey is a piece of shit. This is just a fact, but what of the music? I'd never listened to solo Morrissey, figuring that without Marr it would be too meandering and poppy. Hence, I was gobsmacked by the killer riff that kicks of "You're Gonna Need Someone on Your Side" followed by a similar wall of fuzz on "Glamorous Glue." I much more appreciated those sort of songs relative to the moody, ballad-y ones (e.g., "Seasick, yet Still Docked" "I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday"). For the most part, this sounds like a Smiths record with less virturosity, right down to the preposterous and long song titles. This was good enough that I might check out additional solo Moz, but I'm skeptical that it will equal the Smiths in any way. That may just be a middle-aged preference for stuff I'm familiar with, but that's my reaction.

Not my cup of tea, but still good

Not even one of his good or memorable solo albums, really. An insufferable toad of a man, but unquestionably a talent.

Eh, it doesn't hold up that well, I think.

bon album, pas au niveau de ce qu’il a pu faire avec les Smiths mais ça passe tout seul 3+/5

Bom álbum. Os álbuns do the smiths sao melhores

Pretty good. Good backing band.

Местами довольно неплохо

Meh. Not my favourite.

Pretty solid. Didn’t blow me away. But I liked it. 3.75

I think it's his voice and his overall sound that don't land on my ears well. Decent regardless.

Not what I was expecting, was quite classic punk rock vibe a bit like the Clash. Morrissey's voice is one that you either love or hate and I am a big fan but I felt he didn't use it to his bet ability in this album. Good songs not any I will be listening to in the near future.

3/5 Polêmicas à parte, o álbum é divertido e tem boas faixas.

At some point a number of years ago I decided I’d heard enough about who Morrissey now was that I no longer wanted to associate with him. Around the same time I read the Johnny Marr autobiography and my heightened opinion on him saved my Smiths records, but the Moz ones were gone. It was a moment. Listening to Your Arsenal online today hasn’t changed how little I have missed it. It never was my favourite anyway, but while nothing about it bothered me much musically, equally neither was I excited by it. I know it will be a different story when Vauxhall and I comes up, but for this, I find it easy to stand by my decision to remove it from my record collection.

“Lmao så pinligt 😩 jeg har en ven der er fotograf, han tog det til et gig mit band havde for et par uger siden. Jeg så slet ikke han havde sit kamera fremme 🙈🙈 det er sådan et dårligt billede men det er det eneste jeg har af mig selv ahaha”-ass albumcover

BLIMEY

It's just like the other Morrissey Album in this 1001 list. Ok pop-punk, nit too bad but a bit annoying.

Moody, mercurial, and morose, too much Morrissey is bad for your mental health. He does string together some solid melodies once in a while though (including one epic emo ballad, "I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday"). Top tracks: "I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday," "We'll Let You Know," "We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful"

--You're Gonna Need Someone on Your Side...Morrissey's voice may be too subdued for how much this rocks but it does rock. a little surf guitar in here as well --Glamorous Glue...Moz sounds more animated here. pretty standard stuff --We'll Let You Know...melodrama --The National Front Disco...took a minute but this builds nicely --Certain People I Know...has a Beatles feel but it's one of the Ringo tracks --We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful...this is a fun one and it's so relatable! --You're the One for Me, Fatty...you say the sweetest things, Moz. the music does take interesting turns --Seasick, Yet Still Docked...truly no one understands depression and ennui like you, Moz --I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday...decent but not special --Tomorrow...nice bass groove. Moz is in good form

Love The Smiths but not a huge fan of Morrissey’s solo work

Below some of my favorite Smith’s stuff but this is solid. National Front Disco/Seasick the best

This was quite good

Maybe 3.5-4, but overall fine. Enjoyed at first but was a bit boring and repetitive by the end

An ok album from morrisey. I dont really like morrisey as a person which sours my opinion of this album but that being said some theses songs feel like they go nowhere. The first few songs sound like if morrisey and nirvana made a song together which i kind of like 6/10 Favourite: You're Gonna Need Someone on Your Side Least Favourite: Seasick, Yet Still Docked

I liked this album a bit better than "You are the Quarry", but it is still too whiney for my taste.

You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side and Glamorous Glue are bangers, but the rest of the album sort of fell flat for me.

Kind of hate that I like this.

Will “You’re the One for Me, Fatty” get you to 4.0 stars? No. No, it will not. (3.5, maybe?)

People hate him, but I didn't hate this album. Ah well.

Full of guitar riffs which are very reminiscent of other songs.. I got batman, Norman Greenbaum, T Rex, The Jam, Elvis Costello. I actually ending up quite liking this album.

This is ok, better than I thought it would be.

Kinda meh. Morrissey and this genre of music is just not my thing.
