Reviews (page 4 of 7)

Pretty cool punk album with woman lead vocals.

These rockers are full of vigor, and I cannot relate, for I am merely a sentient blob wasting away into nothingness over time. Seriously, though, this was riot grrrl all the way. Having always had a tough time getting into punk (not into such brash vocals for any gender at all), I actually enjoyed this? Sometimes I liked being able to focus on the instrumentals a bit more, but I think that's just my musician bias showing. A 3.5 that's getting pushed into 4 territory.

ok yea this fucks

Portlandia! Not a bad album. Solid 3.

I’ve always appreciated the idea of Sleater-Kinney more than any of their music. They serve up some serviceable indie rock with a pretty consistent edge, but everything blends together and nothing really grips me.

While Sleater-Kinney exudes cool, imo, I always found it difficult to get into their music. It's fine I guess.

This was rockier than I expected. Lyrics are super easy to understand but the music was pretty good.

Dig Me Out - 3.5/5 One More Hour - 3/5 Turn It On - 3/5 The Drama You’ve Been Craving 3/5 Heart Factory - 3.5/5 Words and Guitar - 3/5 It’s Enough - 3.5/5 Little Babies - 3.5/5 Not What You Want - 3/5 Buy Her Candy - 4.5/5 Things You Say - 3.5/5 Dance Song ‘97 - 3.5/5 Jenny - 3/5

I love almost everything about this! Unfortunately the vocal vibrato kills the vibe for me almost immediately.. awesome music, great lyrics, and great vocal sound (minus the yodeling).. 3/5 Really deserves better, but I don’t think I will ever revisit

Grrl Power but didn't love the music :/

I really wanted to like this more but nothing really grabbed me - maybe I just need to listen to it more ?

fun girl rock, kinda punky and def my vibe.

Laudably raucous.

Sleater-Kinney are a straight up and down noisy indie rock band with powerful riffs and emotional vocals. Before now I’d only heard 2019’s much less critically acclaimed The Center Won't Hold which in my opinion actually has much better singles than Dig Me Out, though the 1997 effort is far more cohesive and satisfying overall. I wouldn’t say any individual songs particularly stand out for me though. The shouty aesthetic is as cool as hell but I have a block which is stopping me from completely falling in love.

Favorite songs: Dig Me Out, One More Hour, Turn It On, Little Babies

El genero no me termina de encantar, el disco no me parece tampoco nada wow. 6/10

This could potentially grow on me, but I just can't get past the grating vocals 2½

This is the kind of caterwauling I can get behind. Wish I'd gotten into this when it came out and I was 14; I feel like it would've made me a much cooler person lol. 3.5

I kind of liked this, but at times the vocalist got a bit shrill and heavy on the vibrato. Overall, this one is a solid three stars.

whoopsies im late overall i think there's some decent songs (especially the one uhh um Jenny?) and in general i like everything Aside from the main vocalists style. it sounds really thin and nasally to me and it makes me nervous 😭😭 i feel like a misogynist im sorry women. it was especially bad to me in the first song so i think it set me off on the wrong foot

Sounded like it inspired strokes and Paramore, shrill vocals tho 2.5

Dig Me Out is a consistently good album with next to zero filler. However, it also suffers from a feeling of sameness due to a lack of any real differentiation from track to track. The fierce indie rock presence is there, and I love the discordant guitar approach, but it all sort of falls to the wayside thanks to one seemingly nonstop wall of Tucker and Brownstein trading shouts and screams 🤷‍♂️. I want to like it more than I actually do.

Sleater-Kinney's Dig Me Out is one of those albums whose reputation looms larger than the music itself. The band's energy is undeniable, with jagged guitars and explosive drumming driving nearly every song. Unfortunately, Corin Tucker's tremulous, high-pitched vocals are a stumbling block for me, making the album harder to enjoy than admire. The title track is a strong opener, powered by sharp guitar work and Janet Weiss' pounding drums. "Heart Factory" makes effective use of loud-quiet dynamics, though the quieter moments are the most appealing parts. "Little Babies" stands out for its catchy sing-song chorus, while the dark, dramatic closer "Jenny" sounds like a lost Patti Smith gem and provides the album's best ending. Elsewhere, "Dance Song '97" adds some welcome texture with an organ part that livens up the chorus, even if it's unclear what exactly makes it a dance song. Dig Me Out is clearly an influential and passionate record, but its nonstop intensity and Tucker's distinctive vocal style keep it from fully connecting with me.

I associate the name Sleater-Kinney with the artier, more intellectual set of alt teens of the 90s and 2000s, so I was expecting/hoping I’d like this album, but to be honest it may have gone over my head. There’s not much of a melody in any of it, which matters to me maybe more than attitude, which it does have the right amount of. I like punky alt stuff that also has a soul/some emotion - maybe I’m just not cool enough, and wouldn’t have been a member of that crowd. Oh well.

6 - pretty good chick rock

Shoutout the drummer Janet Weiss met her at Quasi's (really innovative band that opened for Elliott Smith) merch stand, which she was in charge of. She kicked ass the rest of the band ehh!

Great energy and guitar riffs here, a very punky vibe. The vocals are a bit wild sometimes but it works. I found myself enjoying a lot of this.

Tyttöenergiaa!

The actual instrumental music is good but the vocals absolutely ruin it for me

Enjoyable and energetic.

I liked this a lot. I have read about how good this LP is many times but never bothered to listen to it. Glad I have now as I loved the duel jagged guitar attack. My only issue was there were no obvious standout tracks on first listen. Hopefully I will find the will to play it again and explore it better.

I thought this was pretty strong. The songs are pretty repetitve and don't go anywhere really, but overall this is fun! The vocals are good. While basic, it is fun! Actual rating...3.5 Liked Songs: "Dig Me Out" , "Turn It On" , "The Drama You've Been Craving" , "It's Enough" , "Little Babies" , "Not What You Want"

Enjoyed this, maybe becoming a bit jaded because it probably would have gotten a 4 stars earlier in this process but I probably won’t come back to it again which is how I’m dividing the 3 to 4s.

Wenz: Wah, girls rocking band! Interesting, not too bad!

Probably not in the right mood for this. I’ll be nice and give it a three.

This was pretty good. There were a few tracks that were unmemorable or blended into the general sound of this record. Favourite Track(s): Words and Guitar Least Favourite Track(s): It's Enough

Not much variation on the macro-level, but an evershifting texture microscopically, as Tucker and Brownstein's voices interweave and their funny guitar parts play off each other and against Weiss's drums. Always a cross-rhythm, always interesting. 3 I like Sleater-Kinney and my goodness doesn’t their bare, bold display of musical and lyrical ideas sound especially potent a day after Green Day‘s American Idiot? Corin Tucker‘s wild vibrato is equally hard to listen to and mesmerising. One More Hour and Buy Her Candy are touching. Little Babies is grimly funny. That is a bit of a crap album cover all the same, although I do think Danelectros look nice. 2.5/5

1 - Dig Me Out (there's a lot going on in this song right from the get-go. The singer is both in and out of key constantly which really brings to mind Kim Gordon if she ever took up pop singing. It gets downright noisy and raucous in certain places. This is certainly the title track if there ever was one) 3.5/5 2 - One More Hour (the guitars on this one sound like they're fighting each other, with one trying to play the main riff and the other constantly jumping around and improvising on top of it. The 2 singers on this song do much of the same thing, making this song feel unusually hostile despite it being relaxed otherwise) 4/5 3 - Turn It On (this one is the most conventional alt-rock song so far, with an actual verse-chorus structure. I find that this album so far has brute forced its way through most of its flaws, such as the singers' performances, which teeter in and out of tonality) 4/5 4 - The Drama You've Been Craving (a thumping beat and crunchy riff bring a very Sonic Youth sort of mood to this one. However, instead of noodling about for 3 minutes after the initial hook, this song comes in, gets its work in, and leaves in 2 minutes. Beautifully concise and a big boost of energy for this already raw and barebones album) 4/5 5 - Heart Factory (this one has my favourite riff I've heard so far. It's very Fugazi-inspired and its extended length compared to the previous songs lend an intensity that I feel isn't fully developed on the tracks that came before this one. To me, this one is definitely a high point of this album) 4.5/5 6 - Words and Guitar (this is the first time I can say the singer's performance is actually grating. It's possible that it was the intention here, but it makes this one harder to get through than most other songs here. It helps that this song is rather short and that there's more relaxed post-chorus sections that lighten the strain on the ears) 3/5 7 - It's Enough (a brisk run of a song with a fiery shouted performance. Unlike the previous one, this fits the instrumentation almost perfectly, which makes it a genuinely fun song) 4/5 8 - Little Babies (another instance of the album having an almost-conventional alt rock song with a perfectly prepared verse and chorus. This one is also very succinct in its messaging and doesn't overstay its welcome whatsoever. It also doesn't do anything new so it works perfectly fine) 3.5/5 9 - Now What You Want (this rough-and-tumble track is - dare I say it - a banger, if there really is one on this album. It's the first song that's actually got me bouncing and tapping my foot, so I consider it among the songs that does its intended job the best. I feel this album would be elevated if the performances were more "organized" as they are on songs like these and the others I've rated higher) 4.5/5 10 - Buy Her Candy (oddly sparse for a track on THIS album, there's an eerily serene, droning quality to this one. I swear this could pass for a long-lost Velvet Underground track. I was not expecting something so barren and nervous on this album that just seemed like full-blown blasts of punk noise on the surface) 4/5 11 - Things You Say (this song's main riff is delightfully pissed off and actually kind of sinister. The resolution on the chorus just scratches that itch for me; very solid track to include so late in the album. This is yet another almost-there-but-not-quite grunge anthem, and all of those songs have worked wonders for this album's quality) 4/5 12 - Dance Song '97 (despite the same punk guitars as the rest of the album, the singer is oddly "restrained" on this one; the lightning-fast vibrato is there but it's less prominent on there, and her verses are actually soft and pleasant to listen to, which is certainly not an adjective you can use for most of her deliberately harsh performances. There's actually a smoother interlude here with some chimes and synths, so I guess this one really is trying to be dancey after all...!) 4/5 13 - Jenny (the longest song on the album kicks off with this massive, grinding riff. This has the spaciest production of all the songs on this and it fits the impending sense of dread and finality that accompany this song. A fitting end to this album as it's oddly more measured and poignant than much of the gone-in-a-flash style of songs on this album) 4.5/5 OVERALL - 7.8/10

Music wankers

Nothing special, but this is an enjoyable 90's alternative record.

Great listen. More of these please less Brit pop.

like it!

5/10 Sleater Kinney are arguably the most prominent of the riot grrrl bands to emerge at the height of the grunge wave from Washington. They’re somewhere towards the more punk end of rock and the music has a nice edge of dirty DIY aesthetic about it that really tickles my fancy. I’ll get to the elephant in the room here shortly, but the underlying nature of this record is really good. There’re some great riffs, the drumming is largely excellent, and everything is approached with an aggressive, attitude filled sensibility of smashing through songs with reckless abandon, largely inside of a 2-3 minute flurry. The band sound ludicrously massive for a band with three members and no bass player. They obviously use effects to give them a weighty bottom end, but it’s incredibly impressive how cacophonous and intense they made their sound with such a limited group of instruments. So all great, you’d think. Except for that aforementioned elephant: I just can’t quite gel with Corin Tucker’s voice. It’s not a need for traditional voices (I love Tom Waits and Eddie Vedder), it’s not the power frequency of her voice (again, I love Björk and Kate Bush), it’s just that rapid vibrato she uses like she’s firing a machine gun while she sings at full pelt and I just can’t connect with it. There are the odd places where she uses it more sparingly and it clicks, or she’s offset by sharing vocals duties with Carrie Brownstein, but for the most part, I find it hard to enjoy a lot of the songs in the way I would were she a little more restrained in her use of that technique. I appreciate that’s a me thing, and a lot of people love this record, and I do find it a massive shame, because apart from that I think there’s a lot to love about this album, but unfortunately, while I appreciate it, it’s not something I’m going to likely come back to again. Dig Me Out - There are some great grunge/punk riffs in here. I’m not completely sold on the moments when Corin Tucker’s voice breaks into a fast vibrato, but the DIY aesthetic here is cool. It’s energetic, has good dynamic range as it spins from an aggressive, fiery explosion to a rumbling, threatening wash. A decent start. One More Hour - Again, that fast vocal vibrato is the one thing holding me back from this. The brooding, tension filled verse, building pre-chorus and then driving chorus are great. The vocal melodies are actually cool, but I’m just not loving the delivery when she does that vibrato thing. It loses its way a tiny bit in a couple of places, but otherwise it’s pretty good. Turn It On - This feels a bit more meandering in places, but when it gets shifting it’s pretty good. It’s got more of that Pixies/Nirvana quiet/loud aesthetic, some cool riffs and bags of energy. There’s some cool playing, particularly from Janet Weiss on the drums. It’s still quite punky and DIY sounding, but it’s the attitude and energy that’s important, and it works really well on that level. The Drama You've Been Craving - This shifts along and drives really well. We actually get a bit less of that warbling vibrato, which improves things. Great pace, solid riffs and bags of riot grrrl attitude. And they don’t hang about either. I’m here for it. Heart Factory - Again, a bit more restraint here in the vocal delivery in places, which makes the use of it a bit more effective when she does. The tone and vibe of this are really cool and there’s a nice bit of weirdness thrown in with the little breakdowns. The chugging, swampy sections of this are sonically interesting and again, the attitude is great. Words And Guitar - The juxtaposition of the harsh, punky aggression of the chorus and the smooth, nuanced verse here is pretty cool. Her vocal is just a bit too much for me again, which is a shame, because I think the underlying track is actually really good. It's Enough - I feel like I’m going to repeat myself quite a bit here. Everything about this song is right in my wheelhouse. It’s swampy, powerful and aggressive. It drives relentlessly forwards, has some great riffs and a gritty tone. But that rapid vibrato just tickles my ear in the wrong way and makes it difficult to engage with. In places, it works reasonably well, but it’s just a bit too much. Little Babies - There are some cool rhythmic choices in here and they almost verge into a sound that’s somewhere between the B-52s and The Go-Gos with a big dose of Seattle grunge dumped over the top of it. Cool punk-pop vocal melodies too. She even reigns in her vocal a touch and only uses vibrato on the more powerful bits, which works way better for me. Not What You Want - Great pace and rolling drive to this. It’s so insistent and forceful, and there’s some cool guitar playing in there too. They’ve got so much energy and bite to the way they deliver their parts, and it’s all presented in such a gritty way that’s really cool. Some more solid riffs and solid rhythms and it’s another really decent track that’s somewhat compromised by the vocal just not completely gelling with me. Buy Her Candy - This feels like it’s building and building to something that never arrives, but in quite a cool way. It’s stripped back and sparse, but I think the tone and vibe of it is cool, and it’s nice to have something a tad more restrained, but still simmering with tension. Things You Say - Another interesting blend of rhythms. I think Janet Weiss uses some really cool beats across this record and this is another great example. Again, there are some cool riffs in here and the instrumental sections are great. I think Corin’s vocals work a little better when offset with Carrie Brownstein’s more traditional backing vocals, as is the case here. Dance Song '97 - Another solid beat here. The aesthetic here is excellent, with a cleaner, more defined tone that feels like it’ bursting at the seams ready to let loose and again has a touch of that 80’s power pop sound. It’s a bit of a change in style and if the vocal was a tiny bit further back in the mix, I think it might work a little better for me in this case. Or I’m adjusting to it and it’s starting to gel with me a little more. But this was pretty good. Jenny - This is a bit slower and feels a bit more cacophonous and messy. There are some nice enough, sludgy riffs in there, but it all feels a bit pedestrian and meandering. When things drop into the quieter bubbling washes of distortion towards the end, it sounds pretty cool, but as a whole, it just felt a bit disorganised.

I liked this one pretty well, I had never really gotten into Sleater-Kinney when I was younger -- but I listened to this twice yesterday and enjoyed it both times!

High energy, great vibe. Lyrics often difficult to fully understand but I feel like that's a bit common with the style of music

I could do a couple songs of this but not a full album. I was surprised to see this so highly regarded as it seems like an above average garage band to me

good but too whiny

Not bad!

pretty cool, sounds like you'd hear it at a bar

A little noisy but I actually bopped to a few songs so can't call it bad by any means.

An album I wish I liked more. It's good, but it doesn't really ever get its hooks into me. It's a bit more jagged and less musical than I really go for. Sounds great, but not quite my tempo.

I’m not sure the vocals will be for everyone, rather warbling but I don’t mind them. I’m not fully convinced this needs to be on the list but it’s a good solid indie rock / punk album and I’ll come back and check it out again.

Grrrl-punk energy with a lot more than the classic three chords. The lead singer's voice sounds like it's constantly on the verge of breaking up, which certainly gives the songs a certain energy. And no bass player? Heresy! Not really my thing, but it's a good example of what it wants to be.

Kind of fun! Definitely interesting and different.

Decent garage rock, but pretty grating vocals.

Saw them open for Wilco in 2021 and was not impressed. Lots of noise and screeching singing. They’ve been a bit of the butt of a bunch of jokes since, so I was not anxious to listen to this. Turns out, it’s not that bad. Still could do with a little less screaming. But I like the music a lot.

It was decent, very influential in its time but maybe not quite as impactful as it was.

Great alternative touchstone album, featuring an all-woman power trio. The riffs and music are decent, but the singer is kind of grating after a while - she uses a rapid vibrato that typically ends up sounding goat-like in punk music and it's an affectation that doesn't appeal to me.

Saved? ✅ Would listen again? ✅ Would recommend to anyone? 🤔 Would buy on Vinyl? ✅

I thought I would like this more. I usually alt rock/punk like this, but I think the lead vocals is too screamish and mostly annoying. There ‘s almost no variation in her singing. The songs are pretty decent, but I can’t get by the vocals. I think I may have enjoyed them more if I saw them live. Best song: Dance Song ‘97

When to listen: moody my-so-called life vibes. I always kind of assumed I'd like S-K cause it's my vibe but I couldn't get into this album, which is a bummer. The sound, the harshness... maybe I just need to give it a listen when I'm in a different mood. I do, however, agree with the reviewer that said "if you think this is like 'being yelled at by your girlfriend' I'm sorry that you hate women"

I was today years old when I learned of the Riot Grrrrl movement. A shame I missed it, these girls kicked ass.

Album 1083 of 1089 Dig Me Out- Sleater-Kinney (1997) Rating : 2.5 / 5 This was a nice jolt of energy to start the morning. From the very beginning, the album comes out hard and doesn’t really let up. It’s fast, loud, and full of that raw punk energy that keeps things moving the entire time. One thing that stood out is how tight and focused it feels. It’s not a long album, and it doesn’t waste time trying to be anything other than what it is. It hits its stride early and just keeps pushing forward with that same intensity. There’s a certain drive behind it that works really well for a morning listen. It wakes you up a bit, keeps your attention, and doesn’t overstay its welcome. The whole thing feels direct and to the point. Sometimes an album’s strength is simply how well it delivers on its intent. This one knows exactly what it wants to be and follows through from start to finish. Overall, a quick, energetic, and enjoyable listen.

nothing special but not bad

Great guitar work. Although, I can't help but find the singer(s) voice(s) a little bit annoying. It sounds like she's straining her voice and on the verge of crying, or like she forgot to do vocal warm-ups and only went with the first take on vocals. Kathleen Hanna (Le Tigre, Bikini Kill) does it better, in my very personal opinion. However I did enjoy the album overall. "Jenny" is my favourite track, and the style that I believe the main singer's vocals fits best with. I'm curious to find out if another album of theirs has more of this style.

Not bad, but whatever? Singing is not good, the music does rock and it's not boring.

The drums are solid and the best part of this album. The lack of bass is noticeable and leaves a little bit of a hole for me overall. I’m not a fan of the vocals but it fits the music. I thought this was a good listen overall though and had some rocking songs on here I really liked.

They sound like Hole if Courtney Love was good at music. I never understood the hype around Sleater-Kinney … kind of a critics’ darling band that never lived up to the hype, at least in my eyes.

Just not interesting. I heard like one riff that made me pay attention.

Dig Me Out took me a minute to dig into. The first few songs didn't do much for me, but about half way through I was digging it. Ok, I'm done digging. The vocals are the big point of contention for most people I imagine, and I think they do sound a little samey over every song on the album, but that's like the band's whole identity. That's my point of contention on the album: the variance from song to song is pretty low. But the energy is there, and that goes a long way. Standout tracks were "Heart Factory" "Words and Guitar" and "Little Babies." While punk and post-punk aren't my favorite genres, this album was pretty solid and fun to give a once-over. 3/5

Love the energy of this but the vocal style wore out it's welcome with me before the end of the album.

3 stars

Solid enough. The your-local-band tier production works for this style of music. Not much really caught my ear, but I respect it.

Wanted to like it more than I actually did.

Like the energy. Album is a good mix of indie/punk. I enjoyed it. 3.5/5 Probably will listen again

I enjoyed this. Solid kinda punky throughout. "Little Babies" is a great tune. And it sounds like it influenced Pearl Jam - the guitar work sounds like it could fit right in on Vitalogy. Tremor Christ is so like it. Ah, wait, it's the other way around! This album sounds like it belongs a decade earlier. Still a great tune, though.

A little bit better than I thought it would be!

Really enjoyable alt/indie album from S-K. Lots of hooks, riff and aggressive vocals make for a good listen with bags of energy.

I have never heard of this band before and was quite excited when I saw it was a female led rock band. For the most part I would say that it was just alright really, it was solid but didn’t excite me I thought it might.

Likes: drumming, groove, drive Dislikes: vocal tone and melodies are screechy; songs all sound the same Overall I can see why someone would want this, but it’s not for me. When I can’t connect to the vocals at all, I can’t find much joy in the songs.

I mean, it’s ok. Didn’t like it much but it’s listenable.

ganz schön wild war das damals... heute eher... "na ja"

Angry 90s grunge girl rock. I live.

Great fucking punk album. The thing about this album I like the most is the instrumentation, specifically the amazing chemistry between them. The song that really won me over was “one more hour”. The songwriting in that song is crazy and the energy not only in this song but the whole album is so fucking punk it just brings a massive smile to my face. The only part of the album that I think rubs raw for me is Carrie’s vocals are both original and grating. It’s not immediately grating, in fact I love her screaming delivery, but after several songs of her screaming in that same register for 13 straight songs it does start to wear thin. Again I adore this album and I think the vast majority of it is peak punk, but I also think listening to this album all in one sitting is gunna turn off Aton of people cause of her vocals. Like her wild delivery works so well in “words and guitar” but for whatever reason I hate it on “turn it on”. I guess I think this album having more diversity of vocals would’ve made a huge impact, in the same way that I think bjork is at her best when she had others to bounce off of like in the Sugarcubes. Probably not the best punk album on the list, but easily one of the best I’ve heard so far.

There were some quite enjoyable bits in here that I thought were pretty good, if you could get over the overall scratchy chalk vibe of the whole album.

I found the vocals hard to enjoy at first but they got better and better I thought. My favourite song was the last one. Something about this album is very Canadian... I will not elaborate on what I mean by that...

I wanted to like this more than I actually did because ... it's a female rockband and that sounds exciting. But this ended up being wayyy too punky for me and I'm just not into that, I read one review that really captured this - something along the lines of 'it felt like my girlfriend was screaming at me for 35 minutes straight'. Couldn't agree more except change girlfriend out for just 'a girl' although that doesn't really have the same impact. Anyway, that's not to say that there weren't parts to this that I did actually like, it's more that I'm unlikely to return to the Sleater-Kinney universe.

They seem quite cool, and the guitar definitely elevates this. Punky stuff isn't really my vibe though

This didn't sound at all like I thought it was going to. I was thinking Tegan and Sara. No, this is loud, hard-rock Go-Gos, specifically because the singer sounds like Belinda Carlisle using vibrato on 99% of her notes. Boy, does that get annoying. And the guitar tone is not great sounding either. Somehow I didn't dislike it enough to give it a 2, but I'm not going to put it on again. Maybe their other stuff is less annoying? Best track: Words and Guitar

I've never heard of them before - and oh how much do I like their music on this! It's fun and it rocks so hard. Therefor I'd like to give them the four stars but unfortunately the screaming vocals are not my favor. 3,5

I like this! I will be listening to this album again. It's a nice vibe for just putting on while I'm doing other things. A couple songs did stop me from what I was doing because I liked them enough to add to a main playlist of mine - Words and Guitar, and Turn It On.

Some of these were a straight ear-worm

Peak riot grrrl punk with a very 90s sound. Three things always stopped me from fully getting into S-K: the shrieking, inconsistent vocals, the fact that there’s no bass, and I’m just not angry enough at men. Love Portlandia, though… 3⭐️

So much forward momentum. Not my cup of tea, but it’s impossible to ignore

good punk fuck you music, just a little one-note across the album

Now, it might sound super obvious, but a good rule of thumb for an album is to have both the first and last song stand out. They say that when you’re watching a movie, reading a book, listening to an album, etc, the things that sticks with you the most are the beginning and end. Over the course of my time with this project, I’ve noticed that for my playlist consisting of my single favorite song from each album, I heavily tend to enjoy the opener or the closer the most. Unsurprisingly, this album is no different. According to Spotify, the big hits of Dig Me Out are the first three songs on the album. However, my personal favorite was the closer, “Jenny”. What a great way to end an album. That song just totally rocked. Now, this is the only Sleater-Kinney album on the list, and I can’t say I know much about them as a whole. Song wise I don’t know any of them. The only fun little factoid about this band that I know is that they opened for and have played with Pearl Jam more than a few times over the years. Any friend of Pearl Jam is a friend of mine. Listening to this album for more than a few minutes and you can definitely see why they’re so close. The prime definition of Riot Grrrl playing with the often politically charged lyrics of Eddie Vedder make for a good 1 2 combo. Albums like this are an important inclusion on the list, as they paved the way and influenced women everywhere to rock out, motivating them to take up a fight against important causes and inspiring change. It might not be my absolute favorite sound, but it’s still good enough as it is and succeeds in what it’s trying to do. An important inclusion on the list that I’m happy got chosen. I can’t say I’d really return to this one very often personally, but I’m happy that I got to spend the day listening to it. I find the lead singers voice to be a little much at times, but the instrumentation is fantastic, and some songs, notably the intro to “One More Hour” actually really remind me of Pearl Jam in places, which is pretty cool. I’m comfortably going to give this one a 3/5. It was pretty enjoyable throughout. Nothing new or breathtaking, but good.

I totally misjudged Sleater-Kinney. I somehow pictured them as a pop girl group, which couldn’t be further from the truth. Turns out they’re straight-up rockers, and they absolutely shred. It took a track or two for their vocal style, that raw and fierce delivery from Corin Tucker, to click with me. Once it did, though, I was hooked. The album hit hard, and now I’m excited to explore more of their discography. What a pleasant surprise!

Legalzinho mas não muito notável. Guitarras e vocais que gritam, às vezes a barulheira acaba sendo demais. Percussão ótima.

Well I really kind of liked their sound, but the vocal style really grated on me with the vibrato technique that they use. Solid sound though brought down by that. I'm at a pretty decent 3 stars though

It sort of gets better as it goes in, perhaps the jarring nature of the vocals falls off and the energy of the tracks can shine more.

Think I need to give this another few goes

3.5 stars. I liked this one, didn’t quite love it, but it was a strong listen. I’d heard of Sleater-Kinney before — mostly through mentions from Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder back in the day — but had never really sat down with one of their albums. Knowing they came out of the Pacific Northwest scene in the mid-to-late ’90s makes a lot of sense once you hear it. This is just good, solid punk rock, and what really stood out to me was the lead singer’s voice — captivating and sharp in a way that cuts through immediately. I also liked how the two vocalists played off each other. I didn’t dive too deeply into the lyrical themes, but sonically this one worked for me. Favorite Track: One More Hour

Es hat mich lange schon nichts so sehr berührt wie diese Team Dresch Platte. Ah, falsche Band...

New to me… enjoyable snd would listen again

Riot Grrrl - what a great genre!

This had some good energy to it and pretty listenable for me. 3.5 goin down.

Not too shabby. 3.5 stars

I've randomly seen this band twice live at music festivals (Pitchfork in Chicago over 10 years ago, and last year in San Francisco at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass). Their live shows are excellent, super high energy and they sound great. Most of the songs though, on this album, aren't really great enough to listen to on their own. The later album, No Cities to Love, has a more modern sound (had the song Price Tag from that album bookmarked - good tune). Big fan of this style of lady-led bands, but would go for/plug St. Vincent, The Beths, Partner, and Ratboys (top album two years ago for me) as my favorites in that category.

Decent enough - 90s indie rock type thing - nothing special, but perfectly listenable

Album was decent. I like the 90s rock sound, but it didn't blow me away by any means. Lots of the songs ran together. I did like the lead singers vocals, though.

Hyvä rock-levy!

hello rebelious girl group band, great to see you again

Brimming with late-’90s punk-rock energy, lead singer Corin Tucker’s super annoying vocals overshadow the rest of the band and detract from an otherwise solid, punchy album.

Solid punk album with no skips and some highlights in buy her candy, Jenny, and turn it on

adore the vocals and the songwriting is pretty good too but the production is unfortunately lacking for my taste

This is a completely new one to me, I’d never heard of them. On first listen I instantly thought of be your own cat but not as aggressive. I was mildly impressed but then on the second listen I couldn’t get over that warbling, it was doing my head in. I really wanted to like this as well

6 - AVERAGE

Very grungey. Wasn’t familiar before but honestly look forward to listening to them more.

finally some good alternative stuff, great punky rock

Nice low key production style, as if it is recorded as-is in the rehearsal studio. The voices get to be a bit tiresome although the second leg of the album makes up for a lot!

It’s pretty cool. Karen O might have listened to this before forming Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Enjoyable energy and attitude exudes through this album. The raw, grungy guitars make you feel like you're listening to a live rock band in someone's garage. For the most part this is a good thing, but the vocals are way too wailing for my liking. Having said that the closing track ‘Jenny’ is killer, big fan of that one. Overall, a good listen but not totally my cup of tea.

Don't think I've heard of Slater-Kinney before, but I liked their sound. Will have to revisit. Listened to painting the kids' cupboards on the last day of January work holidays 2026 - 11th Jan.

Just another pretty good punk album to me, first and last song were great though

More polished than a lot of punk I've heard. That was interesting to experience. The vocals are often a bit in a very similar flow and I'd have liked to hear a bit more variation there Standouts Dig Me Out Words and Guitar 3/5

Interesting

I strangely heard Wild Flag before Sleater-Kinney. I think its pretty average, nothing horrible but then nothing amazing either.

Very good album!

Raw female rock, I don’t know why but I couldn’t get all the way in. It is a scene for sure and they can crush it. Not my scene but I see the importance of albums like this.

just ok

It was awkward but i liked it and will listen again

Some good stuff but overall too much shrieking.

Very energetic and estrogen-fueled garage punk. Predictive of the 00's indie boom, with its minimal instrumentation and straight-to-the-point songwriting. The vocals can get a bit much at times. Key tracks: Dig Me Out One More Hour Little Babies

not bad, high 3

Not a bad listen

Alright here we go with another band I’ve heard of but not heard much from. I listened to a more recent release a while back and enjoyed it. This one sounds pretty good to me! I immediately noticed the inventive guitar work which intertwine very well with each other and sounds great hard-panned. Great riffs and lines and a great sound. Probably would be fun to play live although it must be a challenge to sing over it! The drumming sounds great as well, real good energy in the beats and fills. I also dig the urgent sounding vocals and the overlayed vocal lines. This was a great listen and I now really want to hear their other albums!

Should like this more, as I like indie girl bands, another listen required- I have downloaded the album

I feel like the songs got better when the album kept going. The last song Jenny is a really good closer. I've been wanting to listen to this album and this finally gave me the excuse to listen and I can say I'm satisfied.

20/1089 I really enjoyed this entire album. A lighter, cleaner, punkier version of Hole and I could hear some Juliana Hatfield tones as well as some K's Choice (I'm not an addict). Very fun album to listen to but my one complaint is there weren't any 5* songs to lift this album from a 3* to 4*. Next time they should add some 5* songs. Liked...buy her candy, little babies

Really think another singer with a fuller sound would enhance this, otherwise, decent group. “Little Babies” was a standout.

I wanted to like this more. 3.5

It's OK, I guess? I don't like the vocals after more than a song or two.

The songs aren’t bad but that voice. Whoa. Is it a choice? Is a result of stretching her voice? Either way, it distracts from most of the songs. My rating 2.8

Indie punk rock. In short bursts great but over an album wears a little thin.

Very raw and energetic

This is an interesting album as it’s grunge adjacent but most certainly its own thing. The female lead is a bit ahead of its time (and a precursor for what’s about to come). And if you like guitars you’re going to love this.

Musically, this is vibrant and full of energy. It really gets your motor revving. The singer's vibrato can be grating and sound like a goat, which dampers my enjoyment.

fun listen!

Pros - great opener, great closer, love the strident urgency in the vibrato in Carrie's voice, and the contrast to the macho rock nonsense of the time Cons - definitely dips in the middle. Strident urgency gets tiring. Read Carrie's autobiography and came away finding her quite unpleasant as a person, which ruins the vibe a bit. 3 probably fair.

Decent.

This was a bit repetitive for me

Top notch

It's one of those female punk rock albums that are apparently necessary to be on this list, but leave me a bit cold. Yes, I'm a man and can still appreciate this stuff.

Fine, bit generic for that kind of thing

Solid rock album Fave track: One more hour

The shrieky vocals start to grate by the last third of this album, at least for me anyways. 3.5/5

I liked a few of the songs, the others got kinda of annoying tbh.

I didn’t actively dislike this album by any means, but something was holding me back from fully enjoying it. The instrumentals were right up my alley and the vocals were the right amount of weird. I just don’t think it’s fully my thing.

Punky guitars: good Melodic in places and generally listenable Those vibrato vocals: massively outstay their welcome I liked it in places but I just got tired of the singing and I didn't really find anything going on here that felt enormously original or bold. Maybe you had to be there.

Best Song: Words and Guitar. This feels like one of the more experimental songs on the album. Worst Song: Buy Her Candy. The energy of this band doesn't suit a slow song like this. Overall: I was pleasantly surprised by this album. I had never heard of the band and my expectations were low, but it was really punchy and high-energy. The vocals were great too.

#755. I wouldn't have expected to like lesbian punk, but I actually thought it was pretty decent. 3/5: acceptable

My bisexual self wanted to like this more. Oh well.

I get it. It was intense. I was ready for it to be over 3 songs before the end

enjoyed this, hopefully will come back too

Nice but kind of one note.

Solid punk record

Having never actually heard Sleater-Kinney but aware of their general place in the pantheon and of course aware of Carrie Brownstein, this was a lot more abrasive than I was expecting, although it got better as it went along. I was assured by a major Sleater-Kinney fan in my life that this is definitely on the anxiety-inducing side of their canon, so curious to hear more.

Decent album, I think I didn’t give this one a fair listen and may need to go back.

Words and Guitar is probably my favorite off of this one, I honestly didn't find myself having strong opinions about songs one way or another.

Good instrumentals and complete album sound

Good stuff

I didn't love their voice, though cool girl band! David Galea saw them in 1999

Another band I am very aware of but never listened to an album before. Well, I can see why they are on the list. The album is quite sharp with good instrumentals and vocals and goid energy, but one thing this project has taught me is that punk, grunge and similar sounds are definitely not for me. 3/5

Cool punky vibes. I don't really like the vocals that much, but they work very well with the song. Fun and simple guitar parts as well.

The first song really set the bar pretty high for me. Its fast and pretty hectic and kicks some ass. But then time moves on and I start to see some cracks. Biggest of all is the vibrato type singing. Its just flat out annoying to my ears. And its damn near every single time she opens her mouth it has to modulate up and down. Just sing the damn song without that crap. I know you can do it cause I dont hear it at all in the opener. But after that its here to stay. And that looses quite a bit of points from me. But to the good. The music itself is above average to excellent. It all fits and has intensity when needed but also thrives in the softer and more moody sections. Im sort of torn here. The instrumentation is great but I can't stand one aspect of the singer that's used to excess. Cause otherwise the singing would be also great. But alas we have that warbley thing that does ruin it. Its still a good record but I have some serious reservation about what ive heard here

Songs I liked Jenny

Fun alternative rock album with some good moments. Highlights: “Words and Guitar” and “Buy Her Candy”

Enjoyed this….

Sleater-Kinney's "Dig Me Out" was a completely new listen for me. While it was a solid listen and featured some genuinely good moments, the overall impression was simply "okay." The energy is certainly high, it's loud and full of urgency in places. By the fifth track, the sound started to become wearing. Specifically, I found the shouty, almost shrill, vocal delivery, from Corin Tucker, grating rather than engaging. I didn't find anything particularly ground breaking or influential within its thirteen tracks. Musically competent, yes. Three stars. 1 "Dig Me Out" (3/5) 2 "One More Hour" (3/5) 3 "Turn It On" (4/5) 4 "The Drama You've Been Craving" (3/5) 5 "Heart Factory" (2/5) 6 "Words and Guitar" (3/5) 7 "It's Enough" (4/5) 8 "Little Babies" (4/5) 9 "Not What You Want" (2/5) 10 "Buy Her Candy" (3/5) 11 "Things You Say" (3/5) 12 "Dance Song '97" (3/5) 13 "Jenny" (3/5) Total - 40 Average - 3.08 126/1001 67/126 albums reviewed were new to me.

I haven’t listened to this since high school, and since Portlandia. Somehow now the Carrie parts just seemed funny, and I’m sure I didn’t feel that way in the past.

This started off good - I'm surprised I'd never heard (of) them before. The album started off with a bang but then deflated to an elongated squeal. One song here and there on a playlist would be ok but a whole album of warbling over, admittedly, good guitar tunes is a bit too much for me. There's a song later in the album where the singer isn't screech-warbling for the first few moments and but give it a bit and we're back there...

Prior to listening to this they were #1205 on my all time last.fm artists list - between Sheryl Crow and Sting with Edin Karamazov. Interesting. From things I've heard over the years they seem to be one of my favourite bands' favourite bands... i don't see them doing that for me though

This reminded me a bit of Garbage. 3.5 rounded down.

Always feel like I should like them more—I love basically every band they influenced—but they never quite hit.

This honestly could have been a 4 if I didn’t find the vocals so grating

I get why it’s so critically acclaimed. The politics and the scenester thing. It’s different enough that it didn’t fit into the power pop scene or the grunge scene. It’s certainly not pop. I don’t love the singing/screaming and the lyrics aren’t catchy. Its ok. Not great.

Women-core. It’s nice and loud but, oh man, her voice.

This seemed to go past in a millisecond. I don’t know if I wasn’t listening properly but it all sounded like the same song. I didn’t mind the song, but it was just a blur. It’s probably more of 2.5 but I’ll award its brevity.

I appreciate how cool this band is more than I appreciate the music. There's good stuff here, and vocal chops to boot, but a little indie mess for my personal tastes.

As I progressed through the album this grew on me.

Cool punk rock sound but vocals can be a little grating sometimes.

more of a 3.5 but rounding down since no particular song really caught my attention

Gritty unvarnished punk.

I've enjoyed quite a bit of Sleater-Kinney in the past. For whatever reason, I didn't quite gybe well with this today, which is kind of a shame.

I’m not sure why I always thought these guys were a country music outfit. Must have had it mixed up with some other band made of last names. In any case, I was initially surprised and pleased that it was NOT country, and had a fresh jangly sound like early R.E.M. or the Go-Go’s. Some toe-tappers for sure. However, the singer’s bleating goat voice began to grate on me by track 2, and I soon found myself skipping songs halfway through. An acquired taste I did not acquire. And not for lack of trying… I *wanted* to like it. I will not be listening again, but it gets a 3.

Very good album well produced and great sound engeniering.i dont love the lead singers voice but it was real good music so they made up for it. 3.5 but can only award 3

Nothing Special.

Suprised I had mever heard of this band- reminiscent of a lot of other late 90s alt bands with female front. I liked their style and their sound

Ja ogólnie uwielbiam kobiece zespoły punkowe, riot Grrrl itp. Ale ten akurat mi nie siadł. Było w tej płycie wszystkiego za dużo i za mało jednocześnie. Wymęczyła mnie i wynudziła. Nie zafascynowała. 5/10

Don't love the vocals but musically there's some good energy, low/mid 3 for me

I can’t remember it too well, but it was pretty good? Around 3 or 4 range.

Angular, distorted guitars abound. Nothing individually stood out for me as an out and out banger but probably worth another listen. Overall a pretty good sounding album

Not bad alternative, but not my favorite. Low 3.

I know some people who probably really like this. I'm lukewarm on it. It isn't as intolerable as some out of tune, lo fi punky stuff on this list, and it has a good energy I can enjoy, but it isn't spectacularly interesting either.

Just way too shouty, and because the shouty parts only seem to be the same pitch or the same two pitches alternating, it's excessive and hard to listen to. The songs that are sung normally are actually pretty good - Little Babies probably my favourite.

Surf punk with a female Jello Biafra singing

Listen to this for One More Hour and you’ll see It’s Enough.

>women making music

Fun album

punk rock...feminino...eu gosto muito disso...

It’s on prob need to listen in a different mood. Kind cool rock

A very good album that seems like it’d be exactly what I want, but I’ve always struggled to truly love it. Still happy to see the band made it on this list though.

I like the grit here, the guitars are crunchy, and it’s got that lo-fi, low production indie bite. But why do the vocals feel like they’re always at a boiling point? Plenty to like in the music, it's very 90's, but the delivery wears thin fast. Struggling three stars. Spins: 1 Playlist Additions: - Dig Me Out - One More Hour - Dance Song '97

Cool guitar tones and fun riffs. The shouting vocals, while cool at first, do end up getting a little bit old by the end pf the album. It's short tho, so it doesn't suffer much from it. Overall, it won't change your life, but it's fun enough.

It’s ok, some songs are close to great but don’t quite cross the threshold

Yes to feminism and smashing the patriarchy. Yes to good old fashioned pop punk. Not s fan of her voice and could have done with a bit more variation

Listenable enough despite some shrill vocals but not something I'm rushing back to

Not really my favorite kind of music but the album got better after the first track

Dig Me Out is raw, fiery, and full of attitude, but at 3/5, it feels more like a strong first punch than a lasting impact. Sleater-Kinney brings energy in spades, with sharp riffs and shouted vocals that cut through the mix like a warning siren. It’s clearly passionate and politically charged, but the songs often blur together, with the same frantic pace and tension carrying across most of the album. There’s no denying the conviction behind it all, and tracks like “One More Hour” show flashes of real emotional depth. Still, the lo-fi sound and relentless urgency can start to wear thin if you're not fully on board with their style. It’s an important album for riot grrrl and punk, but it sometimes feels more powerful in spirit than in replay value.

Sleater-Kinney - Dig Me Out 5/10 Decent one, this. Good energy and I liked the music. Very punky and some hints of bands to follow, like the Strokes. Liked the lead vocals less, although the harmonies with the other ones were good. Best: One More Hour

“Get me a trio that sounds like a grungy female imitation Nirvana type band!”

Salut Cyril! "Humongous Banger", pour me citer. Alright! Bonne vacances!

Idk this isn't what I gravitate towards musically and I'm not sure if this album swung me in any direction. Cool female vocalists, but it did start just sounding like a form of yodeling. Good energy, but I'm thinking a very low 3.

There's a lot to like on here. Angular guitar riffs and lots of energy. No bass which makes me sad, but that's okay. The vocals did wear on me in a way that other female fronted rock bands like screaming females don't. This album took me forever to get all the way through, feeling a 3/5

This was a cool album. I wish I had been listening to it since it came out. It’s definitely my kind of sound. The singers vocal style is different and maybe too much vibrato, but by the end of the album I was sad it was over. Definitely a sound I could fall for.

I’ve only heard one SK album, excited for this one. Turn it on is the first track that really stands out to me. The vocals overall are….interesting. Dig me outs a banger. Not too much else really stands out tbh. Buy her candy isn’t bad Solid 3/5⭐️

90’s counter-culture rock. Lace up your skates and begin the roller derby.

Neato '90s rocker stuff I don't mind listening to, it's got its own style, not my favorite offering of '90s rock nor punk, but unique enough for a listen

Kate Bush-y

I liked the album! I know Carrie Brownstein from Portlandia and didn't even know she was a musician!

Indie darlings that I’ve always been kind of indifferent to. My first listen all the way through and I don’t feel much different. I can’t really put my finger on why I don’t like it more, maybe just too much treble and noise for me at times. Heart Factory was my favourite.

2.7 Didnt care for it as much as I would have thought. A bit one dimensional but in fairness I will have to give it another crack to see whats up. Still decent

Pretty good some songs were better than others

Not bad, but not great.

Not my genre of choice, but I appreciate the representation and experience.

Solid guitar work and nice melodies. Songwriting is good. Vocals can be a bit harsh but goes well with their sound.

I quite like Sleater Kinney - I like their frantic energy. Enjoyable as I find them, I’m not sure what marks this album out given they all sound essentially the same. I guess if you’re going to pick one, you may as well make it this one. I’d probably have suggested All Hands on the Bad One myself, but no one asked.

Off the cuff remark: a decent album of driving indie rock, but is it "great"? Not really. I enjoyed it but it lacks a real spark for me. Standout track: struggle with this, and I think therein lies the problem. Revisit?: sort of thing I would be happy to listen to but I don't think it's ever going to stand out for me.

I always thought Neko Case was in Sleater-Kinney, so I've never given them a fair try. Turns out they're decent.

Like the sound but each song sounded like the next..Lots of the same for an album… an interesting lesson was the dig me out covers version with collaborations, which was great

I’m torn on this one- I really liked the songs themselves, the melodies, beats, instrumentation. But there was something about the lead singer’s voice that I found really grating….

Great instrumentalists, catchy tunes, but I cannot get behind the lead singer. I could honestly see this as a great band to see at a small-ish venue live though, lots of good energy.

3/5. Not bad, wouldn't really listen again. Favourites were tracks 5 and 6 and the last track

Angsty, rough around the edges, abrasive 90’s chick band. Yes, please. Personally, I’m more of a Veruca Salt or The Breeders guy, but no complaints from me here. 3.5⭐️

Middle of the road for me - 2.5 stars, rounding up because I wouldn't mind hearing it again.

Decent. Little noisy but couple good tracks

The guitar reminded me a lot of early Arctic Monkeys. Pretty enjoyable listen.

90s-00s movie soundtrack music.

I’ve always seen Sleater-Kinney in festival lineups and wondered who they were. Now I know

Standout Songs: Dig Me Out Turn It On It’s Enough Dance Song ‘97

Very interesting, catchy 90s pop-rock. I can see why some people have this on their top rock albums of all time list. I find the singing to be a little discordant though.

Ok album that I own- but did not enjoy as much today #musicsky #albumsky #musicchallenge

Loud girly rock, I dig but probably wouldn't hunt out

In the beginning I had some issues with the singing, but instrumentally this is a very fun album to listen to and after a while I also got used to the singing. Overall 3.5 stars for me.

Lauljal on cool energia ja hääl, aga muidu oli album minu jaoks pisut igav. Cool vibes, aga midagi väga eriliselt meelde ei jäänud

This definitely jams for punk. The singing gets a little grating on the ears, but it's not the worst I've heard when it comes to punk on here. This gives middle-ish 3 vibes. I don't really see myself coming back to listen though.

Not usually a punk fan, and her voice mostly wasn't great, but I found myself not wanting to skip every track. The bar is low for punk for me... I kinda liked this! Probably a 2 in a vacuum, but since it's acceptable punk I'll give it a bump.

Heard of this band a bunch on indieheads but never really listened to them. Definitely some 90s punk rock. Aggressive but in a cool way. I enjoyed that compared to some other punk on here.

Not terrible by any means but why listen to this when you have PJ Harvey? 3*

A bit boring

Not a band I was at all familiar with. Feel like I should've been way more into this than I was. Lots I normally go for and it's all good but didn't quite click with me, no individual songs that hit hard, maybe I just wasn't in the right mood.

Kind of basic 90's. Won't hurry to listen twice

Not really my jam, but probably deserves another listen someday.

Pretty good, but the vocals got a bit tiring.

I can get into punk rock but I thought this one was just alright.

Feels like classic 90s rock. Didn't hate it.

really love the song one more hour, couldnt finish the record tho

holy damn, this album is LOUD. the first thing that stands out to me besides the bangin' tunes is the voices of these two, incredibly loud and powerful. this is a women's punk album, many tracks are about feminist rage and energy, plus many ideas about one's self and passionate emotions. this album is PASSIONATE and you can literally hear it on each track, it's insane. i couldn't name many female punk rock group that really pours sweat and tears to construct wired and intense music like this. the warbly, wailing singing style definitely isn't for everyone, and a big underlying problem that this album has is how similar tracks sound from one another... you've heard one track, you've kinda heard them all.

The absolute core of Riot Grrrl. It's rough around the edges and heavy with emotion and strife, just like it should be.

Not bad. Good instrumentals and decent vocal work. No particular standout tracks for me though.

A solid bop!

Post Punk Girlie rock band

Good music and songs. They do however all kind of blend over the course of the whole album. Needs something to really mix it up.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that this album, made by two women rockers, is on the Rolling Stones top 500 albums. Honestly the guitar work is impressive and they sound like a precursor to Paramore. I’m sure they were an inspiration to women everywhere. Not sure if I personally would listen again, but I see the appeal.

I've somehow managed to never listen to Sleater-Kinney. I've driven by the exit on I-5 many, many times, but I've never heard the band. I am weirdly just a tiny bit too old for this to have spoken to me. If I were just a couple of years younger, I probably would have loved this. Music is great. Vocals are...yikes. The songs all sound the same after a bit. I wish there was more variation/range/something in the lead singer's voice. I'll go with a generous 3 stars, especially since we need more women rocking out on this list.

This was OK, but nothing stuck out to me.

I can see the appeal.

Reminds me of CK. I didn't hate this album.

This one is okay. I like this band in theory, more than I do in reality. It can be a challenge to get into this. The music is pretty solid, though.

decent, voice is a bit annoying

It’s okay, need to be in the mood for it though.
