Reviews (page 5 of 8)

Belle voix, mélodies efficaces et travaillées; mais j’en ai entendu beaucoup du genre. Qu’est-ce qui les démarque?

I would have liked this album more if someone else sang it

Good music, not crazy about the guys voice

I thought everything I heard was well done, the instrumentation was tight and lyrically not bad. Loved the drums on most of it, and the guitar work was always mixed well. Only half listened to it really so not a fair review. Will listen again and request to change this if I feel like I should.

Released in 1993, but the songs could have been released in 1973. Almost feels like a contemporary work by Traffic or Blind Faith with some James Taylor thrown in for good measure. It just has a rich, mellow soulful sound that is not tied to the era it was released, having none of the grunge or jam rock that was so prevalent in the early 1990s (at least in North America, maybe things were different in the UK). 3.5⭐️

Not bad, not brilliant.

decent album, seemed to me like it wanted to be a generic rock sound, a little bit sounding like Steve Winwood.

He sounds like a lovechild of Tom Waits and Zucchero.

I don’t remember ever hearing any of these songs before. Quite liked a few of them.

Listenable not watchable.

Good but not the best new order lp

Jam > Style Council > ………………. Weller

Can't say that this one was hugely memorable, but I did enjoy it overall.

This album ended up being much better than I expected! Quite a pleasant listen!

Came away actually really impressed

This was quite ok, might revisit. It straddles the line between new and coming artist and one attempting to remain cool with the kids. It doesn't do bad at that.

so generic and dull but not actively offensive, so three it is. i actually thought this sounded much older than the 90s in a bad way - dated and dull and zzzzzz. the top review calls this "Dentist Rock" which i found both very funny and accurate.

another album where i liked the first three tracks, then things took a turn for the boring and i lost interest. much like paul's old band, the jam, there are definitely some songs that pack a punch and really rock, but they're all floating in a sea of mediocre filler. it's fine but i'm not sure it was necessary for the list... favorites: sunflower, can you heal us, wild wood

It's an easy listen, it's nothing too complicated, quite catchy. A nice listen Not sure the album is good enough for it to be 54 minutes long as i was a bit sick of it by Foot Of The Mountain. I liked the opening tracks though and Moon On Your Pyjamas

#442. This reminds me a lot of Joe Bonamassa, just with a lot less going on. It isn't bad though, I don't think. 3/5: decent.

Paul Weller har gjort mycket bra genom åren. Den här plattan får fullt godkänt.

Solid blues infused rock album with some standout tracks, but overall a little on the generic side. I enjoy his work with The Jam a bit more. Highlights: -Sunflower -Wild Wood -Hung Up

Very different from the Jam, kind of a 70s Traffic vibe.

Not bad

Instrumental Part 1 and 2 were good, as was Holy Man (Reprise) but the rest of the album was kind of boring and derivative

Quite pleasant! Warm guitar with piano and flute at times. Very enjoyable

Just can't keep Paul Weller down. Between the Jam, the Style Council, and his solo work he was bound to inspire generations to come. Here, he helped lead the transition from Mod to the Britpop explosion of the mid 90's.

Не интересно, но для фона сойдёт

The song "Wild Wood" reminds me a little bit of Nick Drake but higher tempo and not as soothing. Pretty good overall, might return to this if I have the feeling/time.

Never heard of him but solid. Surprised my fave track 'Holy Man' has so few plays

I had never heard of Paul Weller so I went into this open with no preconceptions. I found it to be a solid effort, an easy listen and I enjoyed it. 3.5/5

I love The Jam and Style Council but have never listened to any of Weller’s solo stuff. I enjoy his voice but the backing music just doesnt do it for me. A lot of it just comes over super bland and generic. Still a solid album but I would rather listen to songs about how hot summer is while Weller touches himself in a john boat half naked. 6/10

This was unexpected for me. I had never heard of Paul Weller before, but I definitely have now. Country/Rock sort of mix that stands out from others in that genre with different instrument tones that you would typically find and great vocals. Really enjoyable

2.9 1x catchup 11/4/24

a bit conflicted about this one. on one hand, i think paul weller has a knack for catchy songwriting. i felt like a lot of the songs here were well written and catchy enough. i thought the production felt a bit dated in a not-charming way, but it wasn't awful. somehow this album feels like paul weller was just trying to sound like steve winwood and i can't pinpoint why, just that i can imagine steve winwood putting this album out. it's not bad, it just feels like a lot of the albums of rock musicians from the 70s put out at this period in time. not really anything special for me here.

keksitään joku naseva iskulause. pistetään biisin nimeksi ja toistetaan kertsissä, mahdollisesti erilaisilla intonaatioilla = one of the great american songwriters... paitsi onkin britti... missä aksentti? missä ummettunut laulaja? huoh americanized..... Mikä on englantilaisten ja heidän pakkomielteensä tehdä mitä jumalatonta bluesrockia? ok kohtuutonta kommenttia.. blues on kaikille... vaikka on paskaa.. ei haittaa.. mitä paskempi sitä parempi.. kunhan ikävöi... kunhan itkee yömyöhään... omg omg en voi hyppiä tälle, en voi hop hop jeejeejeeillä tälle, en pysty hiiihooo wauwauwauttamaan tälle... istu lapsi vittu alas ja kuuntele... ei aina tarvitse ahoi ahoi ahoioioioittaa... wild wood

I didn't know much about Paul Weller but I wasn't expecting him to sound so country.

Competent and earnestly preformed but few standout tracks. Reminds of the typical pub bore who contends that such and such modern music isn't "real" music and then go on to claim this album as an example of the "real" music in their mind. Makes for a tedious discussion no one bothers to argue and they go on believing themselves correct forever. 3.5*

Kind of liked this. Enjoyed the bluesy elements. Just no standout songs for me. 2.5/5 Probably won’t listen again

Another album that feels displaced from a different decade. There were parts of this one that I enjoyed... "Can You Heal Us (Holy Man)," "Has My Fire Really Gone Out?," and probably a few others.

Boring but it was nice background muisc

An OK album, but my preference goes out to the Jam (great band who mainly made 5* albums) over the Style Council over Paul Weller solo.

This was an ok album. Honestly I didn't hear any standout hits from it. I did enjoy the listen though.

I enjoyed the album but will probably never listen to it ever again. 6/10

I like Paul Weller but this did nothing for me.

Bit of a sleeper! 3.5/5

Tough album to rate. I didn't mind it. At all. But I struggle to classify it. Weller has a classic sound to his vocals. That combined with the musical arrangements make it feel like a Stephen Stills album from the 70s, or maybe a Steve Winwood or Joe Cocker album (a little jazzy). It's a 1993 rock album but doesn't fit the 90's at all. So it's not a modern sound but it's also not a dated sound, and I wouldn't call it a timeless sound either. If it wasn't Weller or he wasn't formerly of the Jam or he wasn't British, would we see this album on this list? I don't know. But I found his new musical direction in the Style Council interesting and enjoyable, and ditto here. This album doesn't feel like it has anything special but I did not mind playing it multiple times. I almost want to give it a 4 because I didn't bump up his Style Council album from 3.5. Still, this feels more like a solid 3. My favorite songs were Sunflower, Can You Heal Us, the title track (great start to the album with those 3 by the way), 5th Season, Shadow of the Sun, Holy Man, and Hung Up (great end to the album with those 3 of the last 4).

I prefer my Paul Weller in the flavor of the Style Council. This sounded generic. Hard to give a 2 b/c it's not that it's bad it's just not captivating.

Another surprise.

This was fine, but nothing that I'd ever want to listen to again.

Un po’ insipido.

Album 540 of 1001 Paul Weller - Wild Wood (1993) Rating : 3 / 5 A nice album. Laid back melancholy sound. Something to kick back and relax to. Not sure I'd give it any awards but a good listen.

Some decent bluesy guitar licks, a couple cool instrumental jams and several toe tapping songs. Overall an enjoyable listen from an artist I wasn't familiar with. I wouldn't mind taking a deeper dive into his catalogue.

dad rock?

The entire album was an easy listen, if altogether unremarkable. There were quite a few flashes of Traffic in the music and vocals. That's not a bad thing...unless there's nothing else to really make you distinguishable.

Wild wood was a pleasant surprise this morning. I love the guitar and drum tones on this record. Nice warm vocals and clear bass tones are complementary to the sound as well. Great songs and musical performances worthy of repeated listens.

I missed this one in the 90's. I'm not sure who this is, but the guitar is cool right off the rip. Interesting album, kind of after its time being in the 90's. Nothing jumped out at me, but solid album. Imma give it a 3.

3.5 Like an average Richard Thompson or Elvis Costello album. I liked it!

I am a huge JAM fan, and consider them to be among the top 3 coming out of the UK. They were on top when Paul sent his dad in to announce the break up to his bandmates. Shitty! I guess he’s since had a solid career, but he’s not achieved the level of success he had with The JAM. Don’t know why he decided to go a different direction with his music, and he clearly has no regrets. Good for him. I own this album, and it’s not bad. I guess I bought it simple due to the connections with his former band. It’s not as good, not even close.

I said on the Wilco release that I was ready for Dad Rock, but maybe this is a bit too far. I liked it but it all felt a bit too safe; I doubt it's something I'd return to. Side note; I remember when this came out thinking Paul Weller was old, but he was only 35!

Paul Weller's musical career really hasn't been stuck in a rut - from The Jam's rise as a mod band on the back of the punk explosion through The Style Council's mannered pop to his long solo career. On first listen, I wasn't particularly engaged by this album, which seemed to veer between soul-inflected songs to more AOR type material. By my second listen I rather liked some of it a bit more. After three plays I think this may be a grower. But I'll still give this an average score I think. Inoffensive and a bit 'grown-up'. The album is over 30 years old (how time flies)!

Feels like pastiche. No bad but I can't take it seriously.

Wild Wood is an album that's pretty solid for what it is but doesn't seem to noteworthy. The album did start off with it's fairly weird moments but then transitioned into a far more normal album. Weller's singing is fairly good and the actual music also had its good moments but sometimes, the songs felt like they were dragging on and not adding much onto themselves especially when you consider that this album is a fairly long one. The album is pretty decent but i just feel like i don't really have mush else to add to this review other than that. Best Song: Can You Heal Us (Holy Man) Worst Song: Has My Fire Really Gone Out?

Interesting, but unfocused

I'll admit that The Jam is a serious blindspot that I need to correct, but thankfully, listening to the 1993 debut album from Paul Weller will compel me more than anything else, since how is it possible that I've listened to this more than 'This Is The Modern World?' I suppose this album is worth noting due to 1) The Jam's reverence in their native U.K. 2) How it occupies an interesting space and time in between grunge and Britpop that somehow manages to traverse both and neither. And 3) that it is a clear attempt to create music for adults by an adult, not unlike another post-punk/new wave artist from an iconic band who ventured out off on his own (I'm talking about the Youssou N'Dour of England, Sting). I don't think any of these songs are as good as any of Sting's cuts, but they're not as embarrassing either, and so, just not as memorable. B

Solid 3. Enjoyable but nothing amazing.

This is somewhere in the middle for me. Didn't love it, but didn't mind it.

Some ups, some downs, but mostly in the middle

Dreary sameness. I guess in theory I see how this could be someone's thing.

Not that interesting to me.

Meh. Very middle of the road. Got nothing else to really say about this. 2.5

Incredibly solidly middle-of-the-road. I quite liked Shadow of the Sun and All The Pictures On The Wall, but not enough to save it from drudgery.

Decent for a Jam solo record. Admittedly some cool and good musical moments.

This was alright. Kind of 'Eric Clapton Lite'. Interesting though not mind-blowing guitar work.

Yes, classic Paul Weller. Easy 3*

It was fine. I enjoyed it when I listened but also tuned out fairly regularly.

7/10. It's a pleasant listen, but not too remarkable. :)

Pretty mid, though enjoyable. 3/5

I'm a bit stumped by this one. Weller has been so prolific, productive and so damn good for so long. There are songs and albums from the jam, style council and his solo stuff that will stay with me forever. The man oozes class and charm, musical ability and song writing finesse. I listened through this twice as I wanted to get my teeth into it. My reaction is slightly positive ambivalence. All the good stuff is there but it didn't grab me enough.

Never heard before but really good. Chill folk

Kind of boring

This was alright I guess as background.

It was good and powerful. I understand why some people were into Paul Weller like a cult.

At least it's not the Style Council

molto interessante, gradevole e rilassante allo stesso tempo.

First song was really good. Looking forward to the rest after that, but it just got bogged down by bland but inoffensive tunes. Only a couple stood out, but the rest pretty forgettable.

Weller proves himself a competent soul pop performer. The songs are good and his voice is almost rough enough. I think were it not Weller would this album be of signifigance? Its good but not remarkable.

Paul and Jam another artist I should probably listen more too

I've heard of Paul Weller, mostly from reading about his activism in Dorian Lynskey's book 33 Revolutions Per Minute. I've reviewed Style Council's Café Bleu, but this will be my first solo album of Paul's to listen to. I'm not sure what to expect, but I'm curious dive into this one. I didn't love this album, but it was interesting. I'm a sucker for some good keyboard playing, and this album had a nice variety of keyboard parts, and some good guitar playing as well. Paul's vocals were nice as well, and they filled out the overall sound of this album nicely. It was really accessible and comfortable to listen to, and I can definitely hear Traffic's influence on this album, but I enjoyed this album more than I did either of the Traffic albums that I've reviewed. This album is well-made, but it's not without its flaws. As nice as it was to listen to, this album doesn't really push any boundaries or bring anything new to the table. I listened to a quite a bit of adult contemporary music in the nineties, and this album felt like it would fall in nicely in between some Hootie and the Blowfish and Alanis Morissette, but it would be overshadowed by both of them. As much as Paul Weller was a voice for change back in the seventies and eighties, I feel like this album is an allegory for an aging radical giving up on making the world better, and settling for internal happiness instead. And not there's anything unusual with that; a lot of the leftist rabble rousers of the seventies and eighties stopped championing their causes as they aged, and Paul Weller is a member of that club as well. This album was slightly better than average in my opinion, but I don't think I'd ever come back to it. Best tracks: "Sunflower," "Can You Heal Us," "Wild Wood," and "Shadow Of The Sun"

good chill album

This was pleasant to listen to, but nothing here really stuck with me. Favorites were Sunflower, Has My Fire Really Gone Out?, and Shadow Of The Sun.

Listened to it twice. Enjoyed it

Some good songs here… better than I remembered.

Very inoffensive but also doesn’t try anything too daring. Sounds like it would be right at home in an outdoor setting like a block party or small town festival.

Solid Standout songs: Sunflower Has the Fire Really Gone Out Shadow of the Sun

🎧this is solid. It sounds nothing like All Mod Cons by The Jam. Folky. Pleasant.

Very good. 3.5

It was fine easy listening music, but nothing stood out to me but the cover track with its particularly groovy guitar bit.

paul weller reminds me of a neil young type, but his voice is less rough. there's country present, like in young's music, but weller leans more into rock than country, resulting in a smoother sound. this album definitely sounds straight from the early seventies, and weller channeled that era well in 1993. at some points, i'm reminded of elevator music, which isn't necessarily bad. wild wood is a very easy listen as a result. the instrumental pieces seem strongest. the whole album is tied together with a nature theme.

If I had to try to pin this album down, I would say it's like a British singer's attempt at and take on American style folk-rock, country-rock, and blues-rock. At the same time, it also feels like a bit of a precursor to some alternative rock sounds of the 90s. I thought this was enjoyable and diverse, though maybe not groundbreaking. It was also an easy listening experience; it was very chill, but engaging.

Very fun easy listening with a bit of variety throughout the album to keep it feeling fresh.

01) Sunflower - 7,5 02) Can You Heal Us (Holy Man) - 7,0 03) Wild Wood - 9,5 04) Instrumental (Pt 1) - 8,0 05) All the Pictures on the Wall - 7,0 06) Has My Fire Really Gone Out? - 7,0 07) Country - 7,5 08) Instrumental Two - 7,0 09) 5th Season - 7,0 10) The Weaver - 7,5 11) Instrumental One (Pt 2) - 7,0 12) Foot of the Mountain - 6,5 13) Shadow of the Sun - 7,0 14) Holy Man (reprise) - 7,0 15) Moon on Your Pyjamas - 7,0 16) Hung Up - 7,5 TOTAL: 7,31 (73/100) Current ranking: 112/184 When I was a teenager I always saw Paul Weller as boring, too serious, something that adults listen to. And now that I'm an adult, I still don't see it as something I would listen to. It seems to me that this is music for an even older generation ;-) There are still some good songs here like "Wild Wood".

This album is probably one of those that is relegated to the second table at the wedding. I hear both Eric Clapton and Leonard Cohen in the music which is a great thing! On the other hand I can opt to listen to either of those musicians directly and kind of skip the middleman. It isn't so much that it is "like" something else as much as it doesn't have enough unqueness on its own to be distinct from something else...

Seems a bit generic. Some decent instrumentation, but overall dull songwriting.

Not bad. Not great. Meh.

Didn't know who Paul Weller was. The dude has a nice, soulful voice - it sounds familiar. The music is good, just nothing outstanding. A high 3/5. Edit: I found out afterwards, Paul Weller was in the band The Jam. I don't remember much about the album I heard (300 albums ago), "All Mod Cons," but I rated it a 4/5.

Hmm this is all pretty good but nothing I really enjoy. The instrumentals are probably my favorite. It’s like almost a 90’s John Martyn but not at all.

It was ok 👌

I do like me some Paul Weller

Production and music are decent, but nothing outstanding. Overall a quite boring experience.

I've listened through a few times now, and each time I spend the first 20 minutes thinking it's a pretty nice album and the last 20 minutes thinking Man, it really should be ending around now. It's a decent album! Nice guitars! Nothing too special though overall

Nice, but pretty conventional

FAVO: Wild Wood, all the pictures on a wall, Foot of the mountain, Shadow of the sun

I don't have to hear this album before I die.

Not all bad, but maybe a bit dated for its time.

Started off mediocre and build up to some good songs that highlighted more range and skills.

This sounds like a roots rock album by an aging Eric Clapton or similar. But there’s a little more to it. There’s some jazzy touches, soulful parts. I definitely don’t really hear the Traffic comparisons. It’s recorded beautifully and cleanly. I feel like it was recorded in a remote cabin, and the recording feels like I’m in the room. I just can’t figure out whether I like the songs but not the execution, or vice versa. I think I’m not crazy about Weller’s vocals. And I also feel a theme of middle-age throughout that I’m not quite relating to, even though I probably should given my age. I think I would give it a 3.5 if that were an option, but it’s not.

Fine. I wish it would rock out a bit more though. The slower songs bogged the album down a bit. Not offensive. Decent enough. You could almost call it 90s dad rock.

Pretty rad little album. It feels very British. Like very post-rock British. Its exactly what I would imagine coming from a British rock star solo artist in the 90s. Its overall pretty fluid with genres, but never really strays too far. It feels cohesive and together.

I thought I was in a rough ride here, but this is pretty fine throughout. I didn't pay attention to the lyrics, and was a bit bored by the end.

Good album.

Довольно стандартный традиционный рок с фолк мотивами и иногда действительно круто звучащей гитарой. Вообщем то средний альбомчик особо не выдающийся хотя и чего то прям негативного не вызвал

Solid rock album, I thought the songs were, for the most part, groovy and didn't stick around too long, and I liked the guitar work. I liked the titular song, and I also liked The Weaver.

Felt very old

Ruhige Blues Töne mit sympathischer Stimme des Interpreten. „Wild Wood“ ist ein schöner Song und „Hang Up“ interessant. Das Album ist schlüssig und gut zu hören aber auch nich faszinierend.

Oh shit! Did not expect this one on the list. Got this back when it came out. The title song is great, but don’t remember much else. First song is okay. Second song is a little too American. That title track still kills it. Instrumental Pt 1 is rad. All the Pictures is pretty. So is Country. Another reviewer on here said that this album sounds like something Paul Weller made for himself, and that sounds accurate. He is clearly enjoying himself. There is range and excellent musicianship. This is probably more interesting for guitar players. Overall, this is very nice. It’s not my favorite Paul Weller project. It’s a little too average white guy, for my taste. It’s probably fun to listen to while riding down a country road. But, I wouldn’t say this is essential listening.

I have never heard a solo Paul Weller song as far as I know - I've heard of his former bands The Jam and The Style Council but I'm not very familiar with their music. This is all new for me today. This was mostly just a nice collection of dad rock songs - but I'll admit that the jam at the end of "Shadow of the Sun" grabbed my attention.

More into the Jam, short exciting songs, and in the Style Council, (both very poiltically driven and both real fun to listen too) than in the solo work. Still the man is a legend, his voice incredible and the title song and Country and Foot of the Mountain beautiful. Feel bad given this master only 3 stars

Not bad, but unremarkable.

Der Titel verspricht mehr als er halten kann. Lieber WIlde Side (Lou Read) oder WIld World als Wild Wood: Im besten Fall Musik für ein unaufgeregtes Frühstück.

Nothing crazy, I didn’t really pay attention to the lyrics, but I didn’t mind it when it was on. I liked Paul Weller’s voice.

This album has a lot of fun energy to it with a good bit of range, but the production is a tad bland, the writing is often unoriginal, and forgettable lyrics. I don’t know if this is necessarily a negative, but the vocals sound like a mix of a bunch of other popular singers. I enjoyed it, but definitely won’t be thinking of it often. 3/5

Love it from the first lick of Sunflower! Had never heard of Weller, but love his singer-songwriter ethos and knowing his later influence on groups like Oasis. Makes me think in turns of Mark Knopfler, the Band

Ooh. Paul Weller. The Jam! Well known for loving the British bands of the sixties, here Weller extrapolates that sound, often calling up a Steve Winwood-like voice. Although INSTRUMENTAL - PT 1 and PT 2 hint at Marvin Gaye (at least to me). Boy - I really hear a lot of Traffic here. Psychedelic influences throughout the album. At least a few songs (5th SEASON; THE WEAVER; FOOT OF THE MOUNTAIN) could've been early Frampton. Started out a 5, slipped to a 4, and ended up a ⭐⭐⭐ __________________________________ 🎧 LPs reviewed: 41 🎧 LPs left to review: 960 🎧 LPs I found great/relevant enough to be mandatory listens (5): 10 🎧 LPs I *might* include in my own list (4): 14 🎧 LPs I will certainly *not* include in mine (1-2): 10

Country-lite good complete album. Nothing too catchy to remember

It's fine didn't do much for me round up to 3

Some interesting sounds. But way too long!

I can't be held responsible for everything. Carl Weathers died today and that seems more important than this album somehow. I'm most definitely far from angry

i’m usually listening to paul via the jam or style council so it’s nice to hear his voice in a different setting. he sounds so soulful on this project, no doubt thanks to the blues influence found on this album. i’ll definitely check out more of his solo stuff. 3.5/5

Paul Weller is the sort of artist you get on Jools Holland's Hootenany. It's decent enough music, but you forget about it come New Year's Day.

My first Paul Weller & probably exactly how I expected it to sound. Pleasant enough. Made me want to listen to Ocean Colour Scene.

Not sure why I have actually never heard one iota about this man, band, album. Really enjoyed it and will listen to more by him. Def channeling the boomer era and giving me dadvibes, but enjoyable through and through. I dig his voice WELLER enough.

Never heard of Paul Weller prior to this. Relatively casual album between soft rock and easy listening. Surprised how much I enjoyed it. Seems like something I would been aware of previously. 2.6 stars

A bit hit and miss. Sometimes gives Hendrix vibes. Sometimes gives boring vibes.

It was alright, really liked 5th season

Favorite tracks: Sunflower, Wild Wood

This is one that I should probably give another listen to to fully appreciate

Didn't hate it. But didn't really care for it either. Really wasn't feeling it.

More of a greatest hits kinda guy which is very good. This not so much

Works fine as background music but nothing stands out. [0112/1001]

defintiv nochmal anhörenswert, eher chillige musik

There's a reason nice warm sound to this album, and the lo-fi production suits it. Sadly some of the songs seem to distract me from the warm atmosphere and go for something else.

Solid work from the Godfather of Bitpop. 3.5 stars.

It’s fine, I guess. Nothing special

Never listened to any of Paul Wellers solo stuff before. It's pretty good, nothing like the Jam and not as good but still enjoyable. I'm thinking perhaps I'll give it revisit as this one would grow on me. 3.5

If you told me this album was released in the 70s, it would probably make sense. And I would probably know more of the songs as my parents would've listened to this in the car any that sort of thing. But as an album released in the 90s? I don't quite get it. That said, I could easily put this on at a party and no one would be offended. But I don't think anyone would be listening, either. I did like some of the guitar work. So it has that going for it.

Decent. Paul Weller has a good voice.

Good singing, strong song composition, albeit a thin sound. This just lacks true substance and falls flat. Nothing about it is bad, yes it’s a little boring, more so that nothing stands out as must listen again.

My head thought it was bland, but my feet kept tapping along. Maybe I should I reconsider a career in dentistry?

Сложно сказать. Меня не зацепило. Была норм песня Wild Wood, но в остальном пофиг.

It was ok, but nothing urging me to listen to it again or to save any to a playlist.

Country soul, retro vibe

Never heard of this artist before. Apparently he was part of some punk-ish band from the 80s. This record is far from punk. I can tell he was influenced from bands such as Traffic and Blind Faith. All too similar to Traffic and Blind Faith, in my opinion. Not bad overall. Boomers would probably love this shit.

I know this album well from when it was released. I’m not a huge Paul Weller fan, but this album hangs together really well. The songs are good and the snippets of music echoing earlier numbers that appear every so often add to the overall feel. It’s heavy ish blues, on the whole, and definitely a good listen, but nothing groundbreaking or that you can’t live without. Solid and enjoyable without being breathtaking.

Sufjan Stevenssin Javelinia tän jälkeen jaha.. hankala suhteuttaa.. ENSIMMÄINEN UNOBJEKTIA SEKASORTOINEN PÄÄTILA RATING...

Easy listening old man rock

liked didn’t lovd

Eh it was decent. There were good moments were it was enjoyable radio rock that sounded like budget Collective Soul, but too much filler in-between. Standouts are "Sunflower" and "The Weaver".

This album reminds me of sitting in the back of my dads dodge ram in 2008 begging for McDonald’s on the way home.

Legal. Genérico, mas legal

I love Paul Wellers early work with The Jam and Style Council but this is seemingly replete with old fart blooze rockisms that young him would have fought against. A huge disappointment tho the playing is tight.

This sounded like 70s classic rock to me, or pre-yacht-rock. It definitely didn't sound like an album made in 1993. It wasn't bad, nothing really stood out to me. Sunflower was a good song, as well as the title track wild wood. Overall it was ok

Nothing really popped out at me, but it was listenable

Some good songs, some boring. Decidedly mid.

Collection of really good rock songs. Do you like collections of really good rock songs? You’ll probably like this.

I was taken right back to Friday nights and TFI Fridays. Have to say Wild Wood has never been a favourite single, but in context it made more sense.

"Wild Wood" by Paul Weller is a solid but somewhat unremarkable effort. Released in 1993, it marks Weller's return to a more traditional rock sound after his days with The Style Council. Tracks like the title track and "Sunflower" exhibit his songwriting talent and soulful vocals. The album's production is polished, featuring a mix of folk and rock elements. However, "Wild Wood" doesn't quite reach the heights of Weller's earlier work with The Jam or some of his subsequent solo albums. While it's a pleasant listen, it lacks standout tracks that leave a lasting impact. It's a respectable addition to Weller's discography, but not necessarily a career-defining one.

Gostei, achei gostoso de ouvir.

Really really liked the instrumentals, exactly my thing for this kind of music. Really did not like the vocals or lyrics. Favourite song Sunflower.

The title track is awesome. The rest has pretty good instrumentation but Weller is kind of singing really earnestly about not much in particular.

Absolute dad rock. A relaxing nostalgic vibe to listen to at my desk. Some drums and guitar riffs/solos I really enjoyed

Nice easy listening but nothing too exciting for me. Rating 3.3

Some songs exceeded my expectations and all around the musicianship was very good, but overall somewhat middling. All respects to Paul Weller, nonetheless

meh meh meh

Pleasant 90s soft rock. Kinda husky male vocals. Solid

Yea I mean it’s good but it feels like it was made for radio. Overall kind of simple and inoffensive and to a degree not creative. Easy to listen to, well produced and good, just not outstanding

I liked this one quite a bit but it faded into the background after a few tracks, even with multiple listenings

this is exactly why the rating system has a middle star

nice classy mellow stuff

Interesting album from the man of eclecticism - although generally I can’t really warn up to Weller’s post The Jam stuff like Style Council - this record feels heartfelt and warm - but at the same time it just doesn’t stand out particularly. It’s good but forgettable.

Yeah, that's not too bad. Not mind-blowing but damn solid work.

хмммм

3.5 - Sounds like if Counting Crows were fronted by Michael Bolton. Rich, soulful singing with some uplifting songs about chasing your dreams and shooting for the moon, etc. Pretty forgettable but a pleasant listen nonetheless.

I'm really not that sure: it wasn't the worst thing I have listened to but it wasn't amazing just meh rock. I feel the album was missing that banging song to get you singing along but I could definitely put this on in the background and have it as ambiance to my day.

was aight

Pretty solid alternative/indie style rock, some country influences in the guitar playing in the first side of the album (i.e. in wild wood). Lyrids abit meaningless.

Surprisingly nice, but not really my taste. Would listen again, but a bit too alternative

Good mix of energetic and laid back. The vocals are ok but the moments that Weller's instrumental prowess were featured stood out to me.

Quality music, just not really exciting for me. 3/5

Molto interessante

- Liking it way more than I was expecting - Dope piano rock vibes - TOO LONG - Favorite songs: Sunflower

- Very highly talented musician - Love the guitar on this album - Really enjoyable, easy listening, could see myself on a boat jammin

My first Paul Weller album. Thought it was decent but felt it was possible overstating it's welcome. Don't know haw he's alluded me all these years but I would check out other stuff by him due to his influence.

Perfectly fine album. It didn't do anything special for me though. 3/5

Probably a 3.5 but it did end up background music kind of

God, Weller has got boring in middle and old age. Come back the Jam and The Style Council.

Another album that sounds potentially good in the beginning but sags in the middle as if it ran out of tricks. And another album that would probably be better if it's half as long.

I enjoyed it but I wouldn't seek it out to listen to it. The kind of album that I'd be happy to gear at a friend's place but wouldn't suggest.

he’s clearly a talented songwriter fit for the mainstream - but is that really the highest goal?

Best oké muziek.

Not bad, a bit monotonous for me, but definitely an okay album

Fine album, nothing stood out however.

My favorite parts were when he wasn't singing.

Quite bland, considering his Jam output.

Actually really liked this one. Never heard of him before. Not exactly the kind of music I listen to, but I thought it was pretty good. I'd like to hear more of it.

It's clearly well made, and made with love, but it's not my sort of thing.

Best Song: Wild Wood. Has that compelling, folk campfire quality to it. Worst Song: Shadow Of The Sun. Not terrible, but it sounds like he's really imitating Bruce Springsteen here. Overall: More generic, inoffensive dadrock. Can't exactly hate it. Music to barbeque ballpark franks to.

Enjoyable listen. Lost touch with Weller's music after the jam but happily get into Weller solo after this album

A couple of fun tracks, especially "All the Pictures on the Wall" and "the Weaver." I feel like this could become a comforting and familiar voice with a little more exposure.

I was liking the sound, but got bored with it pretty quick and switched it off

Ja wel goed voor op de achtergrond

I don't know what to think about Paul Weller. Clearly he has runs on the board for The Jam, but negative points for the Style Council. There's something just too earnest about his bolshie yearnings. There's some quality music here, but lyrically lame.

First off, I felt like this record had lots of qualities. It was mostly well written and well recorded. However, it was long and didn't leave a strong impression on me, it was pretty similar all the way through and not that catchy. I won't really come back to this one 6,5/10

evie is a hater. this album is pretty darn good. theres like two songs that i really liked. dont listen to the haters Paul Weller, you can always find shelter within my arms.

Did not feel a single emotion listening to this.

I rushed this one, will go back and listen to lyrics properly, but he has a great voice and I enjoyed the vibe.

I do really like it but it doesn't grab me.

Listened Before? N I understand why it's on the list. It was a good listen and I'm sure there's some who absolutely love it. For me, it's just a jam record... lots of long songs and jamming. It was okay. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Wild Wood

Feels a little bit dated but would love to hear it again and explore more of his catalog

Weller always seems like an arsehole, but this album grooves along nicely. A little bland in places, but generally gives off the vibe of adult dinner party. Unchallenging.

Favourite song: Country

Who doesn't love a bit of Weller?

Enjoyed this. Pretty mainstream rock but new to me.

Hyvää taustamusiikkia vaikka kesällä ajelulle. Countryhtavaa rockia muillakin vivahteilla. Kannattaa kuunnella uudestaan jossain vaiheesssa.

Very interesting! I would’ve been way more into this artist in 1993. His sound mixes southern soul, 90s jam bands, and folk.

Wild Wood? More like Mild Wood amirite middle-of-the-road gospel pop acoustic sound with a bit of funk. pretty ok filler for your easy listening rock playlist

I feel like this person has come up in this list a few times in various incarnations, but nothing has stuck with me too much. I liked this fine anyway and some of it was quite good. A little middle of the road: competent and well produced, but firmly tethered to a particular and fairly mainstream channel of pop soul.

Easy listening album. Didn't hate it but its a one and done.

soulful but not especially personal for me.

Very very average. Some bits are good but others are very mid. The good bits were good.

Ei nyt mikään megapläjäys, mutta viime aikojen kakkoskimarasta erottuu selkeästi edukseen joten painetaan kolmonen.

Hyvää, perussettiä

Like the first track, “Sunflower.” Really like Weller from The Jam and Style Council but this is… (wait for it)… not my Jam.

I liked this more than I would have thought, but it is very long. I liked a majority of the songwriting and guitar work.

Quite enjoyable rock album. It's different from The Style Council which Paul Weller were a part of which was all over the place with different genres but Wild Wood keeps a consistent formula. It's more towards a pop rock style that doesn't try to make too much fuss.

Likeable songs that have a tinge of Traffic and Eric Clapton sounds in them. Paul Weller has had so many incarnations, but really not familar with this one,

Sounds like a latter day Eric Clapton and like a classic rock album made in the 90s. It was pretty solid but I can’t say it was exceptional or why it would be on this list.

Some of this is really nice, but towards the end of the album it starts to sound quite monotonous. Might listen again just to see which songs were actually good.

Perfectly okay... but lacking in many standout moments. Generous 3

This album is ok. Nothing too special, kinda generic, but I can still enjoy some of the songs on the album. Would say this is the perfect 2.5/5 album. The album itself is also pretty long, don't know if it needed 3 instrumental songs. Favorite song: The Weaver Worst song: Moon On Your Pyjamas

favourite song: wild wood least favourite song: all the pictures on the wall nothing world changing but overall pretty enjoyable

Very country in spots, so I was surprised this is English artist. Some very good instrumental moments here and there, but overall nothing special Saved tracks: Can You Heal Us (Holy Man), All The Pictures On The Wall, Holy Man - Reprise, Hung Up

A Perfectly serviceable album but one I find pretty unremarkable when compared to Wellers work with The Jam. I had a perfectly pleasant time listening to it but I wouldn't really be able to tell you any of the standout songs.

A really pleasant listen. Not a masterpiece, just good music

Easy to listen to and well written songs. Nothing stood out to me... It's not my sort of music but I do feel like it's definition middle of the road.

I wasn’t remotely excited to see this come up, but credit where it’s due; there are some good tracks on here, especially the first two. It undeniably reeks of Dad Rock though - the kind of mid-tempo plodders that men of a certain age worship but would probably bore the living bejebus out of the younger generation. It doesn’t sound like a must-hear record at all, so 2.5 stars. But I personally didn’t mind it, so I’ll round up. I guess I must be getting worryingly close to ‘dad’ age?

I mean i definitely don’t have anything against it (those two instrumentals felt a little forced) but the main pull of classic rock, or at least this particular vibe, is that I know it alr. without that it’s just kinda… there. low 3.5

It was pretty decent, nothing really stood out to me about the album though. Favorite: Wild Wood

Pas nul mais peu intéressant (je peux relate)

Paul Weller balance ou gémeaux ?? ( incapable de choisir un style musique)

preferred the first half of the album, solid 7/10 i feel

Listened to it but don't remember anything from it

Nothing revolutionary. Feels like it came out way behind of it's time. If this came out in the 70s or 80s I would understand and respect this album more. While I don't think this is changed the state of music, I think it is a decent enough album. Best Songs: Wild Wood, Has My Fire Really Gone Out?, 5th Season Worst Songs: Magic Bus, Can You Heal Us,

5/10. Not unpleasant, but so very forgettable that I forgot I was listening to it half of the time

Not bad, just boring 2.5/5

Good vibes but nothing too memorable

Pretty good easy listening rock/folky stuff. I like the chunky acoustic solos. A lot of willpower would deal up an album like this.

i liked it? a little mish mosh. i like the album cover too :’) → 1. moon on your pyjamas 2. has my fire really gone out? 3. instrumental - pt. 1

fín plata

Did not like the start. Liked the middle. Hated the end. It was a rollercoaster of tepid water.

Not bad

Did not like the start. Liked the middle. Hated the end. It was a rollercoaster of tepid water.

Good album

Really got into Can You Heal Us - Holy Man, and Holy Man 2...the rest of the album isn't bad either ...

After hearing the first song I was dreading having to listen to the full album but was presently surprised after the first track. A pretty fun blues rock / soul album. 3.5/5 Favorite Tracks: Has my fire really gone out Wild Wood Instrumental 1&2

May return to this, had some solid stuff. There were some killer bass lines as well.

Pretty okay. Had some melodies I enjoyed intermixed with pleasant listening. 3.5

I'm fairly certain I've never heard of this. I would never have guessed this was the dude from The Jam. I liked it ok, but it's not really a style I can get into. Americana just isn't my jam. That's a pun. 3/5

This was pretty cool. "Can You Heal Us" was really catchy and the title track was a vibe too. Too long for what it was though.

Solid music all in all, but not really memorable or essential, either. Weller has a strong voice and some of these songs have killer hooks, but I won't lie, my reaction was something like "this is it?". Still, may listen to again. C+

Not bad. It has a very chill feeling, like a lot of the classic rock from the 70s did, but with a more interesting instrumentation. That said, I also feel like this is a little too beholden to the 70s radio-friendly dad rock without really trying anything new like a lot of the classic bands from that period were doing. Mid-tempo 70s pop rock pastiche.

Not bad Very basic acoustic rock songs
