Reviews (page 5 of 7)
I enjoyed the album but wasn’t huge on it.
1st time listening to much Beyonce I'm not mad about it. I'd give it 3.5 stars but not 4!
It was just kinda there. The dial didn't move much one way or the other. Some of the songs sounded somewhat familiar but I couldn't name any of them now. No desire to listen to this album again. Better than a 2 not really a 3. I suppose I will round up.
Great voice, many good songs, somewhat uneven album
I remember when this dropped in college! My a cappella group lost their shit. We watched the video album back to back and rolled back our favorites until 4 in the morning. Listening now is interesting, lots of the synths and drums sound dated, and it feels a little more melodramatic with the interludes and honestly just because Beyoncé’s voice is so polished and good. Also “What goes up ghost around” lol. The lyrics in general are doing it less for me. My biggest takeaway is that the whole album is so much more theatrical than I remember. Makes a lot of sense, but I’m a little less able to buy in with some of the lyrics and the melodrama. I think it was such a moment, and I need to remember that it was a surprise drop, and a lot of this stuff was super original at the time. Makes sense that it would come across differently 10 years later. Even my former favorite “Superpower” isn’t doing too much for me anymore. But it’s a nostalgic listen for me, and much of the production and Beyoncé’s undeniable voice still shines through.
I enjoy most of this album but not all of the songs.
Good, but didn't wow me.
Never been much of a Beyonce fan. Didn't hate it. But was a bit surprised by the amount of cursing. Guess all the worship from little girls made me assume.
Sexy and powerful album, solid 2010’s pop album.
Impeccable production. Just a bit too long.
I read that this album was Beyonce exercising total creative control, which usually means you can expect a weird and wonderful collection. Unfortunately, there's not much about this album that's very unique. I don't mind all of the collaborators, but there's not much here musically that I haven't heard many times before. I'm giving three stars only because the end of the album has a few good tracks, almost hidden from the rest of the poppier songs. The standout track for me is Superpower where she seems to finally start taking some risks.
It is what it is- no better or worse than other mass-produced products in history. Very well produced though - slick and professional but maybe at times it's overdone as jumps and starts with no discerable pattern is seems to me. It grates after a while, not much Rhythm and no blues at all.
Started to listen to this album but when I got to Drunk in Love I left and went on a Jay-Z binge. I’ll eventually get back to this one day. From the first few songs it was good.
Has its moments but it’s just too long
It’s fine? I only listed to some, cause I know some.
Solid
Can't say I ever listened to a Beyoncé album in earnest so this will be a good exercise. I have always respected her as an artist but it's not my genre at all but I can recognize the merit. Pretty Hurts is kind of what I expected but I was not expected a track like Haunted which has a lot of interesting drum and synths that are borderline experimental, not to mention Beyoncé's cadence in flowing between rap and singing. From Wikipedia I see there was an artist named Boots who was a bit more on the electronic side and had some of those random experimental tracks that she gravitated towards. If I heard this track in isolation I would not guess Beyoncé at all. Drunk in Love, I've heard this before. Actually kinda like it in some ways, has some interesting vocal choices. Kinda don't need the Jay-Z addition though. Blows instrumentals are fun. The rest of the songs started to wash over me. I'd say it's a pretty darn good pop album, but that's why in general it's not to my tastes.
Like the sound but could have had some more upbeat songs
Obviously good, though, like almost all top tier money acts of today, over produced. Contributing to its primary weakness, monotony of tone (not so much in the lyrics and vocal performance, but in the backing music).
This album is not my thing. I think this album is on the list due to the way the album was marketed through visual arts. I don't think it is a "must-hear" for fans of music.
Some good songs but too long and few good songs in between
I remember when this came out and the world lost its collective mind. Gotta give this album credit for its impact, but nobody can deserve as much hype as Beyoncé receives. There’s a decent amount of filler here in between the hits. Maybe I’d feel different if I watched the videos along with it. I don’t know, just didn’t do it for me. My faves were the ones everyone knows.
Beats and lyrics to listen to
Just too much, too many layers in the production, too much production and too many effects and collaborators, top much synthetic sound and way, way too much celebrity baggage. Yes, there are plenty of moments, but a real deficiency of soul to one's own ears, the whole thing being just massively artificial. These celebrity records seems to make a huge assumption that non-fans will actually care, or be interested in whatever they do, which leads to indulgence and tone-deafness. Here, there's just no sub-surface substance to engage one who isn't dazzled (and is in fact completely bored by) the surface glitz and glimmer. One vastly prefers Solange, though it may be a temperamental preference. One can't remember if this record invented the cliche of including little kids' voices or merely extended it. Either way, it's lame.
Decent
Good album but forgettable and generic.
Heres the thing - This is technically a great album. The beats, vocals, themes, music, theyre all outstanding. BUT its so heavily produced and led by committee that its impossible to give it a good score. How can I say its a great album if it was written by 500 people and then each track was fed through a focus group before release? Its not an album that you can really get into, but its got tracks that you can really visualize the toyota commercial for. Its OK, I guess - But I cant rate this any higher than a 3. 3/5
I don't go into these things trying to hate the music to begin with. I mean, what's the fun in that? I will admit I was a bit trepidatious, and I was expecting this album to be more like the Beyonce of 2010 and previous, but it's definitely not in a few ways: 1) the material is more... adult, 2) she is definitely trying to vary her musical style with the material There were only one or two times I could hear autotune and I think that was used for the song as an effect more than anything else. I do not believe that it was used throughout the entire album (thank God). Many of the songs really did showcase her vocal ability, which is really on display on a number of the tracks here: "Pretty Hurts," "Partition" (that was... an interesting one) "Rocket" "Blue" and "Superpower" Even the songs that didn't grab me still had great production, I think the only ones I didn't really care for was "No Angel" and "Haunted." But I can see the maturity in the work, in comparison to where she had come from and that is pretty impressive. I saw some reviews where people were bothered by the "songwriting by committee." If a number of people had to help out to make the song what it is and that makes it a good song, then so be it. I'd rather have that than one person who makes a song that's awful. And really, a lot of people need that collaboration. Am I going to come back to this? Probably not, but I liked it for what it was. Middling 3 for me, I guess.
kind of a slay ig
Strong album in its own way, but wouldn't listen to it a lot.
I really like Beyonce and have listened to her songs before. I can appreciate her as a musician and I know she's incredibly talented but to be honest her music isn't really my thing. that being said, this album is perfectly sequenced and masterfully produced. I really enjoyed the listening experience and appreciate it as a piece of art in and of itself. definitely have a newfound appreciation for Beyonce now !!
Songs for empowerment and selective mass appeal
Heard it before: Just the once but that was the non platinum edition Enjoy it?: Yes, it’s something I wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to or even describe as my regular taste but you cannot deny pure talent and immaculate production which Beyoncé never misses on, didn’t care for nearly any of the remixes on here but the bulk is fantastic. amazing samples and slowing down of tempo and pace to make such an easy listening pop classic Favourite song : Track 16 - Flawless (Remix with Nicki Minaj) (Honourable mentions to Partition, 7/11 and Haunted)
I like Beyonce, this isn't my favorite.
Neloše
Ik vond dit best leuk om te luisteren. Positief verrast!
Not usually my style and I don't really know much of her work other than the big hits. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Not sure if it's just the platinum edition but it went on a bit. Not sure I'd listen again.
Raunchy!! Cool soundscapes for catchy pop tunes but songs were quite long n repetitive and I started to lose interest by the end of the album - the drake feature was very dull. Other than that is was enjoyable
Is good
Not my fave album of hers. A few bangers. Overall kind of desperate and whiney lyrically.
This album is an interesting inclusion. While I do recognize Beyonce's immense impact on pop and R&B music as she exited Destiny's Child, this album, to me, marked a turning point where she became less of a singer and more of an experience and a production. Everything about this album was a production: the album dropped secretly and unexpectedly and toted a long list of credits and came complete with visuals. This album's work, while not bad, seems incredibly manufactured and mostly uninspired. In this case, I do think the production overshadowed the artistry. The lyrics seem disparate and disconnected from the songs. I could probably get behind this more easily if it were marketed as some kind of dark, moody, ambient electronic/R&B collaborative concept among the producers. But the need to throw Beyonce's name on this and literally market the music around her made this feel, again, overproduced. It mostly sounds like Beyonce showed up to do some vocals on songs that were never really for her to begin with. Aside from a couple of notable songs, I don't feel like she adds much to this music. If you want a more inspired experience showing Beyonce emerging from a girl group and thriving as a solid, unique solo performer with an outstanding voice, look further back in her catalog. That said, this album is the hallmark of the modern Beyonce experience, and what she has built her empire around. And beyond Beyonce, this work is a decent example of conceptual electronic R&B. Maybe that is what makes this album a notable inclusion in the project. But considering this is ultimately marketed as a Beyonce album, I would be remiss not to mention that Beyonce is not what shines on this album; it is okay for what it is, but it stifles her talent.
A huge talent that I just don’t get into. Lotsa sexy lyrics in this one.
How to go about rating and reviewing an album like this? In the end, I'm going to stick with rating by how much I enjoyed - and think I may in future enjoy - listening to it. But not before acknowledging how massively influential it was, with many crediting it as one of the albums (if not the album) that saved the ALBUM as a viable product - not to mention the whole "visual album" thing. And how significant its themes, and of course how massively talented a singer Beyonce is. As for enjoyment? If my favourite albums and those that simply delight me (or deeply move me) get 5 stars, and albums I really like but have some weak spots get 4 stars (including Revolver for example), and albums I mostly don't like but have some bright spots/redeeming features get two stars, then this falls into the broad middle ground...in round numbers, 3 stars.
I enjoyed this album but it felt like it came to an end before it really got started. Maybe I need to give it another listen one day
In time this may achieve classic status, but I am not there yet. Part of this may be my age and lack of appreciation for Beyoncé's work (I sometimes have to resort to Urban Dictionary), or perhaps the "critics" were overly effusive with their praise. A pet peeve. There are over 40 writers, producers and collaborators on the release. That may be the new normal, but for me it results in a loss of another star as I don't know who should get the credit.
This is ok but I honestly don't see why she is such a big deal.
Liked it more than I expected.
Had only heard a song or two once by chance before. Pretty good, I liked the snippets of her from when she was a kid.
This isn’t great - bit overlong and incoherent in tone - but it does feature some absolutely brilliant singles and it’s unquestionable that Beyoncé is a dominant figure in the music of recent years. Not sure why* the “but she doesn’t even play her own instruments” brigade are so up in arms about this one. (*I do know why)
I probably need more time with Beyonce to get what she's really about but there's not doubt she's talented. Fave: ***Flawless
R&B. Electrónica. Largo. Demasiado
Nice enough.
This is a decent pop album. A couple of the songs are pretty enjoyable. Beyoncé makes some songs relatable to her fans and others about her wealth. A majority of this album is about love and sex which gets tiresome after a bit. Overall it’s okay. 6.2/10
How do you rate an album where you thought most of it was trash? I wish she would sing more! Three really good tracks but the rest of it doesn't do it for me. * Drunk in Love * Rocket * Heaven
Cest bon mais avec tout le hype autour de beyonce et le budget probablement avec les 30 ecrivains et combien de procteur differents? C’est a se demander si ce n’est pas seulement un produit commercial bien developpe pour plaire plus qu’un projet musical personnel. 3.75
Pop mastery. I love the production, but I’m not over-awed by the release story of this album, nor am I going to rate the music differently because of it.
honestly it was a little underwhelming. i was familiar with many of the songs but they were just a little disappointing. i like the vibe of the song but some of them just dragged on and seemed like she threw some lyrics together and decided to sing that for the next two minutes. however she has a very listenable and pretty voice and i do like some of the snippets.
I'm not a big pop fan so I'd love for this to surprise me a bit. It....sort of does? I'll go negative first: the trap beats I'll just never like; 808s, those fake hihats...it's a preference and i prefer to never hear them. This would sound SO COOL with - well, with real percussion (holy crap - listen to "Drunk In Love" and imagine it with a powerhouse drummer playing to it - it would be fantastic). So there's something I'm not gonna get past so...what else? There are some good and occasionally unexpected melodic turns on this; more so than e.g. Taylor Swift (who I've found a painfully simple songwriter). The album *sounds* like a few million dollars went into it, that's for sure. I'm not yet sure that's a great thing for me. So many producers in modern pop music tend to bring things back around to what is popular and smooths out any rough or adventurous ideas. Again - whether this is good or bad is as always up to the listener. There's no denying Beyoncé has a really nice voice - a lot of the production puts her voice rightupfrontandcenter which is definitely competing with other modern pop. It's a little distracting - I'd love to hear some vocal tracks a little less-perfect; put a little space on the vocals. If it sounds like I'm criticizing the mix/production more than the songs, I guess I am. That's a huge percentage of what modern pop music is and at times it frustrates me a little extra...like now. Because these songs are so much better than many of Beyoncé's contemporaries, I'd love to hear them a little more organic ("Blow" is funky as hell; could get a little Stevie Wonder treatment from this). Not my fave but I can definitely appreciate a lot of the skill and creativity that went into this. 6/10 3 stars.
Queen B, vild vokal, pop/rnb, fed produktion, features
Первая часть альбома - очень крутая. Совершенно не мой жанр, но альбому удалось приковать в начале мое внимание. А вот на второй половине либо я устал, либо альбом не смог удержать.
Some good songs but can’t see myself listening to it again
Pop comercial. Ni fu ni fa.
Rithm & Blues comercial. Escuchable.
I've never listened to Beyonce. I've heard a few songs from her via popular culture. Supposedly she is the queen of pop and is this super star. I don't hear any of that here. It's just fine bland rnb/pop. Nothing special and nothing that really pushes it beyond anything. It's just middle of the road average. 2.5/5
Disco bastante raro o al menos no lo que esperaba. A ratos sampleos extraños, a ratos muy pop. Honestamente me sorprendió aunque tampoco me hizo querer saber más de la artista ni que me guste más el género. Sólidas tres estrellas.
Man, the opener has not aged well. The messaging of “it’s hard being pretty because people don’t care what you THINK” is a little oblivious and self -obsessed. Coupled with the following intro on “Haunted” with the refrain “people all over the world working 9-5 just to stay alive” seems completely disconnected and out of touch, with a follow up line of “probably won’t make no money off this, oh well” like, thanks so much Beyoncé for being so selfless to bless us with this without considering making money (even though it obviously would be a smash hit). Luckily those are the only real down points, Haunted turns into a great track and everything after is pretty great. Shocking frank about sex, love, and relationships and superstar production.
Sometimes Beyoncé does a song and you think yes, there is so much substance to the hype, then the next track comes on and after 30 seconds you’re hovering over the skip button…
Having said that, tekst pjesme "pretty hurts" je toliki faking cringe. "It's the soul that needs a surgery" jaooooo neeee baby what is you doing.
But not for me. Ak moram birat onda Blow > Rocket. Ostatak albuma je ono, prolazi, osim par skipova.
I probably enjoyed it more than I should have
Niet mijn genre, die gelikte R&B… Desalniettemin redelijk genietbaar.
this was really interesting. i don't love it, but that's just my subjective taste. what's not subjective is the overarching story of perseverance and grit, which makes this pretty easy to respect, even if, as i say, i don't love it
Interesting songs unique sound. Absolutely a substantial album that were it more in my wheelhouse could be 4stars, but as it just isn't my genre I can't imagine ever giving more than 3.5 🌟
Great voice, overproduced music, I think Beyoncé has produced some fantastic singles, but l couldn't enjoy this album
Interesting songs unique sound. Absolutely a substantial album that were it more in my wheelhouse could be 4stars, but as it just isn't my genre I can't imagine e fou g higher than 3.5 stars.
Feels like she wanted to make a horny Prince album. Idk, Prince never had lame Drake features on his albums. Best track: XO
All hail Beyonce. Is she the best pop singer ever? Not sure but she's in the running. I never seek out her music but I never turn it down or off if I'm in control of the playlist/radio. She's so talented and such a babe. Crazy in Love is still one of my favorite pop songs ever. That song isn't on this record. I can't say that this record has any of the bangers that I know/love from her. But it still has her voice on it, so that sets a baseline of 3 stars. Her baseline is better than Janes Addiction will ever rate in this group (you hear me 1001 album generator!? No more Jane's Addiction!). There are such innovative sounds on this record. When the drums come in on "Haunted" its really great. And "XO" is a really great single. In the context of her other records, this is a 3. A solid 3. Look forward to reviewing Lemonade and Sasha Fierce. Hope they're on here too.
6/10
Good pop album. I’m not a big Beyoncé fan but you can’t deny she has a great voice.
Had to listen several times through. Not usual immediate "hits". Personal lyrics. A celebration of grown up womanhood. Very sexy. A good piece of art in the sense of personal expression. Probably won't listen to much in the future, but it is good quality.
This album is strong 4 stars but the brain-dead libfem discourse it has spawned forces me to give it 3 stars
background noise, didn't wow me
Beyoncé isn't someone I would normally listen to. People bang on about her like she's the most amazing person. Nevertheless I have no complaints about this album, tis a fine album.
Characteristically Beyonce, XO is a masterpiece
A couple good songs but overall pretty inconsistent. Tough to really get into because it felt like it bounced around. I think I bailed with a couple songs left.
Relisten. First time all the way through. Great musically lyrics left some to be desired.
Better than I thought it'd be. Still not my album of choice, but she's got a few cool tracks on here.
I liked XO. Heaven and Blue are very pretty songs. She has a lovely voice but doesn’t use it very much on this album. All the talky bits were annoying. Disjointed , felt like it didn’t know what it wanted to be. Not classic Beyoncé
Obscene
I really like the concept of Beyoncé. The hits. The memes. Love that photo of her with Jay Z in front of the Mona Lisa. And that one of her at the the Marfa Prada. Really enjoyed her headline set at Glastonbury (when it was on tv). But I guess I am not really interested in engaging with her output on an album level. This one is really really long and quite low on bangers tbh. 6/10
I did not know about the "visual album" concept, with some short films accompanying some (all?) songs. Cool idea. The songs are a bit darker and more intimate than I expected, and it mostly kept my attention. I had to put in a little work to push out my biases as best I could -- not easy, given she's, well, she's Beyoncé, for crying out loud -- to focus on the music. It stood up. Some of the tracks are a bit too "dance club" sounding to me, but that's quite possibly a product of my own conditioning. Overally, though, this album has a lot of good stuff going on.
I will never deny the absolute legend that she is in music with her influence on culture and the industry, as well as her top notch voice in the last 20 years in a sea of talentless musicians. But I still stand by the fact that her music is completely overrated, distorted by her celebrity and cult following.
Solid pop 6/10
Decent album overall but not really my preference. A couple songs were straight terrible.
This is sort of boring. I like the parts when Jay-Z raps?... I miss when Beyonce was a singer who did good dance music and Austin Powers movies and not this "uber artist cultural force". Prince she ain't. Some tracks are ok, but almost all of them are too long. Jealous is the highlight I think... ok, I was too hasty. This is growing on me a lot... Rocket is really good. Shit. I think I just didn't like Haunted very much. Stream of consciousness reviews up in hurrrrrr
Better than expected, having only listening to some of the singles. Some good vibes and tunes but overall just, not something I would repeat.
Decent enough R&B-pop
Honestly? Given all the positive things I have heard about this album... I was kinda underwhelmed. That being said, I also have heard Lemonade first so that could very well be biasing my opinion. 3
I don't know.. She's a decent songwriter, and has a good voice. But I'd be lying if I said I enjoyed listening to any of it. Gets a hmmm/5 from me
3.5 good but not great.
Whenever I see an album where 20 different people are involved in the songwriting and 100 people involved in the production, I think this is not an artist's personal statement and vision, it's really a corporate product. Having said that, I didn't hate this and I do get the sense that Beyonce was clearly in charge of this project. Definitely an ambitious effort with a diverse array of songs. 3 stars.
A floor of quality that is middling at least. No real bops, which I expected when I saw I knew none of the singles from the track list. I'm sure this album works for someone, but it's not me.
Listened to a few songs, nothing special. Perhaps I have not yet developed the necessary musical palette to appreciate Yoncé. Maybe eventually, I shall…
Autotune really starts to blur everything together in what is generally a really talented and vibrant performance, just not my thing
inte min grej
2.5, need to round this one down
Nope, not for me. I'll grant some elements of this have some quality, but, perhaps due to my middle aged white male-ness, this one just doesn't land in really any aspect. Sounds like a (too large) group of collaborators put together an album designed to tap into the lowest common denominator of music listeners, got some press to write it up as some "enlightened" bullshit being quick to call out critics as "out of touch," and commence collecting fabricated accolades.
Oh wow. Ive never heard this one in full before. It's too long. There are a couple, few good songs on here. But sadly too many that I don't like or put me to sleep. More than one song didn't have anything close to a melody and that made me upset.
Not great songs and grubby lyrics :(
Neat RnB soul disco not my cake but ok..
I was expecting more from this tbh. Beyoncé has some bangers. None of them are on here. In the end I was just bored. Which is some feat with all those writers and producers. Too many cooks perhaps?
I suspect I’m precisely the demographic who is meant to enjoy this, but I was just so bored. When it came out, I didn’t like any of the singles, and I still don’t.
Beyoncé far from her best here.
I liked it better than I thought I would, but I"m not gonna just listen to this
disappointing. this kinda sucked
5/10 I was bored, not a single track caught my attention
4/10 There are a couple bangers on here but overall I've never been a big Beyonce fan. It really doesn't help that there's a few pretty terrible people featured as well.
I recently listened to Lemonade (2016). and thought it was incredibly good, so I had high hopes for this 2013 album - but it just isn't really connecting for me. There are a range of styles on the album, 22 different producers credited (more than for any other album I've heard this year), but only a few of the songs appeal to me. I could try to analyse what disappoints me - or I could say perhaps I'm just not a fan of electro RnB? I had a read of the Wikipedia page about the album - strangely detailed, maybe written by a horde of fans who revere everything Beyoncé does? So I knew to pay attention to the lyrics - but I'm not really convinced by the pitch. Also from grouch corner, I didn't appreciate the features from Nicki Minaj and Kanye West, I was confirmed in my preference not to listen to either of them if I can avoid it. Overall, there's lots of impressive singing, but only 2 out of 20 songs work for me, so for me it's Not Good, 4/10.
Not for me. I usually like big female voices, but I did not find anything here that was worth putting on a playlist. I guess I would not leave the room if it was playing...
This was a lot more mediocre than I was expecting. A lot of the production sounds outdated, even though it's well executed and most songs have at least a couple production elements that are interesting. Obviously Beyoncé is a very skilled singer, but she didn't seem to have too much interesting to say. "Blow" and "Rocket" actually grooved pretty hard and harnessed some of the aspects of R&B that I like, but in either case the subject matter was very sexual and not very appealing to me. One consequence of "feminism" is girls are now allowed to act like sluts. I guess that's "empowerment" to Beyoncé.
surprisingly low-energy. 7-11 is probably the most fun track. most of them aren't fun, nor are they emotionally moving. Seems like this album was funded by alcohol money. I like Beyoncé as a singer, but I don't think this album plays to her strengths. The 808s and trap percussion are pretty lazy, sound dated
I am generally not a fan of pop music. This was not unlistenable but I don't need to hear it again.
Look, Beyoncé is a very talented singer and performer, but despite now having listened to 101 tracks of hers over the years (according to Last FM), I just can’t get into her style. There was nothing about this album that spoke to me, I didn’t care one bit about it. Its saving grace was that she doesn’t come across as vulgar or obnoxious, as some of her contemporaries do. I simply can’t insert myself into the same shoes as the bey-heads, or whatever they’re called.
Hm algunas me gustan mucho pero otras no, creo qud más bien no es tani estilo.
Good lord, this was trying to reap all the goodie points of being a female icon without putting in the actual work. Putting in Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, one of the foundational voices of Black Feminism in your album while you've got literal sexual perverts alongside her is some downright bad optics.
The significance of this album lies in its impact on the industry. It is part of the reasom new music is released on fridays now. But while the production is top of the line and Beyonce can definitely sing, there is a sinister side to this album. Beyonce is the owner and CEO of Parkwood entertainment. So if she decided to have other people write songs for her, it works out because she picks those people. But I write that not as a defence of her work. Everything on this record is hers. Including the choice to have a major black feminist author recite the definition of feminism but then only touch on the subject in terms of women in high success positions. Beyonce's feminism is of the girlboss type. It does not ask why there is a boot but insists that the people putting the boot down on others necks should be 50% very rich CEO women. Beyonce's feminism allows for prominent villains like Kanye West (a nazi) , Nicki minaj (full blown MAGA) and Drake (an alleged pedo) to have a place in her media empire. According to wikipedia there are only a handful of billionaire musicians. Beyonce Jay-Z are two of them. One does not become a billionaire without screwing over others. In this case a movement for positive change and many other women were exploited to build this empire. Ironically, this is the first album she made after breaking free herself from a manager father who wasn't treating her fairly. The industry was soon after this album changed forever to benefit her. Ultimately this album's biggest sin is its corporate insincerity.
1.93
yes yes yes yes yes for the ones that truly bop but not a no skip
beyoncé
Beyoncé has such an amazing voice but this album is an incoherent mess where her voice is just not used very well. 2/5
She shows the versatility she has in this. Very polished product.
Is Beyoncé AI? She’s AI, isn’t she? It would explain why she’s so boring.
This is ok, but it's not for me.
Deeeecent. Pari hyvää kuunneltavaa.
Dieses Album interessiert mich so sehr, wie Genozid den durchschnittlichen deutschen Politiker
I mean, this isn't made for me. But I can't help saying, some songs that have been recorded in history are terribly dumb. Blow is one of those songs.
Sure, as pop music I guess this isn’t dreadful y any means. It’s not my thing really, and I didn’t particularly enjoy most of it. It’s a bit too generic in some ways and obviously too long. It’s somewhere between a 2 and a 3. The record company only putting the “platinum” version on Spotify pissed me off massively - last thing I need at 5am is to hide half the fucking album. So it’s a 2.
Amazing singer, just not my taste
Sounds like generic R&B to me.
Congrats to Beyoncé and Jay-Z for all the sex they were apparently having circa 2013. This is a very horny album with maybe two catchy songs (that aren’t actually very good). I think Beyoncé is overrated.
This was a bit more lyrically graphic than I was expecting. It's fine, just not really my jam.
Had higher hopes but pretty trash
Обычно я не слушаю поп музыку. Местами скучно, местами неплохо. Особенно скучная вторая половина альбома.
My wife was with me when I listened to my album of the day. She used to listen to Beyonce and Destiny's Child when we first met, her review is; this is pretty boring.
Decent but just don't care for it.
Never listened to one of her album and boy I wish I still hadn't.
No me puede gustar tan poco este tipo de música. Si reconozco las vibes dosmileras, pero me deprime un poco
Not for me, but a few really good pop songs in here. 2.5/5
27 - Beyonce - Beyonce - Rating = 2 Beyonce has such a sound that is hers. Distinct vocals with an urgency and production behind it with her soul and energy - sexy and topical and she’s just a star. Pretty Hurts is a nice level-setter to start. Opens the first couple songs with a talking intro… Haunted is pretty much a repeat talking rap… crooning comes in… not so much. Drunk in Love featuring Jay-Z is a big song for her… starts really slow… to much spoken-vocal… no hook… why is this a big song? Jay-Z doesn’t help it. Blow has a bit of a dance glove but sort of cheesy. No Angel is sort of boring / it’s a sound but not that interesting. Look… I’m skipping through a lot of this because I already know where it’s going and it’s not what I want. Not offensive, her voice is great… it’s just never something I’d choose.
This is 1 star better than I expected, I generally can't stand modern pop, as it's generally just light keyboards and thin fake drums. Add on a diva doing all sorts of vocal gymnastics just to prove she can (whether or not the song needs it) AND then add some cheap sex raps. I'm out! When this first song started, I grit my teeth and girded up for a really annoying hour. "Pretty Hurts" has most of those foibles listed above. Yuck! But when I stuck with it and heard some of the other tunes, it was a bit better than I feared. "Haunted" is pretty cool. "Haunted" by Poe is a far better song and album though. "Drunk in Love" lowers the overall rating as it is a typical representative of the horror show that is modern pop. I've never understood for 1 second how anyone thinks jay-z is a good rapper. He's freaking annoying! I'm not anti-rap. "Some of my best friends are rappers!" :) But jay-z just sucks. I shouldn't have come back for another listen. Everytime I listen, I like it less. Let me call it a 2 because I know some people dig it and apparently she's influential somehow. If nothing else than being a good marketer and businessperson. It's just not for me.
There are songs I like by Beyonce, but most of the ones on this album are not ones that grab me. Favorite songs: Blow, Flawless Remix
Rating: 3.5/10 This was a slog to get through...
Started so strong and then just faded
Uninspiring and forgettable. Not a 1 because it wasn't offensive to listen to.
For Beyoncé: I hate to be that guy who talks ill of more modern pop music…but this just really isn’t it for me. Overproduced to death, and it’s hard listening to this knowing that there were like 40 people credited with the songwriting of this album. Seems produced just to make money and hits. This is a great album if you want to listen to Beyoncé talk about having sex, though. Probably not many better albums if that’s your only rating system. However, the trio of Superpower, Heaven, and Ivy in the middle of the album stood out. Amidst all of the down and dirty tracks, I feel like these gripped me much more. I wish I got to hear more of that interspersed. But with what this album is, I can’t say I’m a fan. 3/10 for me today, sorry Queen Bee.
another modern RnB, I suppose it's ok, not my jam
#882. Beyonce makes music for people that don't like music. 2/5: a bit shit
This is just not my style but I did like a few of the songs
It's undeniable that shes got an amazing voice. If you can connect with that, all the power to you. There is a reason that Beyoncé is one of the biggest personalities in modern music, and it's in part due to the incredible vocal work she's capable of. Personally, I can't ignore the fact that this is structured as 14 singles strung together, nor the overproduced sound that has been focus-tested to the point of often being plastic, diluting so much of the artistry. This contains some great songs, but they are housed between decaying mall music and manufactured #YASSQUEEN anthems.
Every description of this says it's a "visual album," so it's unfortunate that half of it seems to be missing. Maybe that would provide better context to the music. In any case, 2/5
Heard it before. Controversial opinion: not a fan of this era of Beyonce. I much prefer her earlier pop stuff or what she's doing now with different genres. I do remember this album being massive when it got released without an announcement but in terms of music I was never into it 2/5
Eh, I have heard that she can sing, but why are most of the songs in the album not showing that?
So disappointed with this. Self indulgent and rambling. It’s only because she has a great voice that it’s not 1*
Really expected better from Beyoncé, so many other artists it's hard to tell whether it's her music at all.
I want to give a 2.5, but I didn’t *dislike* any of it. I just would not choose to listen to this again given the option. But it’s fine. “Blows” production gave me heavy Justin Timberlake vibes (Oh, he worked in it lol) BUT the lyrics kinda really weren’t it. Honestly I was surprised just how many of the songs on the album are sexual in nature. With these highly produced albums with multiple hands involved I kinda wonder how much input the artists themselves actually get though.
Not my jam.
I really thought I loved Beyonce's music because I've pretty much only listened to Lemonade (5 star album btw) and some of Cowboy Carter (3 star album with a 5 star album buried somewhere within). This is trash, though. This is the worst and most hollow modern music has to offer with occasional flashes of Beyonce's pure talent shining through the murk of bullshit. Flawless is the only song that I genuinely enjoyed here. I'm also a 40 year old white dude, so it was in no way made for me.
This was pretty boring. I don’t think it’s aged that well; it feels very much of its time, late Obama era, pre-“Spotify-core.” Kinda substanceless. I want to be kinder to it — I respect the hell out of Beyonce, especially the Homecoming concert — but I don’t see myself ever going back to listen to it.
“Beyoncé” is, well, a typical Beyoncé album: a great voice singing mediocre songs, accompanied by some random ringtones. I'm not too familiar with her recent work, but maybe “Beyoncé” is special because it was conceived as a “visual album”—whatever that means. If the idea behind it was to create music that doesn't make much sense without watching the videos at the same time, then it's kind of succeeded: The songs on "Beyoncé" are not exactly bad, but largely pointless to me.
not enjoyable
Product, made because of money, not passion, inspiration, the desire to create, or love for music.
I love Beyonce's huge disco hits... crazy in love and the one about the ring. But this album didn't have them and I felt like i was listening to her personal diary if being happy and successful. Did I miss something? Is she being ironic? Where are the huge hits? Not impressed
Talented lady. Not my cup of tea. The duets are fucking awful.
overproduced pop drivel.
Wow I'm kind of shocked to see this one on here. I have to admit that though I'm sure I've heard a Beyonce song somewhere, I can't recall what it sounded like or name even one song. Part of the problem I have this this right off the bat is that if you look at the credits section on Wikipedia, you need to change the battery in your mouse at least once before you're done scrolling through all the names. And only like 3 or 4 of those people are credited with playing real instruments. This is basically the definition of manufactured music and music made by committee. You can tell she has a great voice but I feel like it's really a shame that the music she makes sounds like this. It could be so much better. I would love to hear a more soul/jazz album from her, I bet it would be amazing. Should this album be on the list? Well something of hers certainly should be, I am definitely not the one to decide if this is a better choice than any other album she's done. My guess is that you could pick one at random and it would be fine. As it is, this is totally not something I am interested to hear more of. I was definitely bored with this well before being halfway through. Adding a star because she does have a great voice, though used in an unfortunate manner. 2/5

Kjeder meg i hjel. Hundre låtskrivere og femti produsenter for å lage forglemmelige sanger med navlebeskuende tekster.
I wasn't really into this album. It was interesting how dance-focused the first half of the album seemed, but overall it's not an album I would likely listen to in its entirety again. 2.25/5
It's overproduced pop, I don't believe any of these songs come from the heart. Everything is a calculated attempt to appeal to an audience without a creative spark. The references to sex are especially transparently aimed at sex-positive people with a vaguely feminist sheen, but not enough to be overtly (and unsellably) political. All that said, it's not a terrible album, it's too manufactured and polished to be actually bad, the people who made this knew what they were doing and the final product (emphasis on product) is more than fit for purpose.
Highlights: Drunk In Love, XO Lowlights: Haunted, No Angel, Partition, ***Flawless This album does nothing for me. Beyonce has her hits for sure and a great voice, but this album is just meandering and boring. Very disappointed. If this list gets updated again, I wouldn't be surprised if Cowboy Carter replaces this.
Блять что это Чисто за продакшн бал
The first two songs weren't bad, but then everything else after that was annoying. The lyrics just aren't good. The songs get boring. The singing is PHENOMENAL, but I wish she had writers that could right good songs.
This didn't do it for me. Felt a little overproduced and the song writing was lacking. I'm guessing this was a fairly big swing to do something different, which i commend, but it falls flat for me. 2/5 Won't listen again
Good singles, the filler sucks
No es mi tipo
Sigh... I just don't understand why this music is so revered. This album is all about sex and the music leaves much to be desired. This just ain't my bag baby.
boring pop album
531/1001 🌕🌕🌑🌑🌑
Don't get the hype.
The production sounds like mid-career Kanye and the vocal performances are enjoyable. Unfortunately I don't believe a single word in any of the numbers on this album. This is commercial pop packaged to appear real and I'm not into it at all. Also, Drake sucks.
Found a lot of this to be a bit self-indulgent. The 'hits' are decent enough but a lot of random crap in amongst them doesn't do it for me. Prefer Beyoncés older stuff to this. 2.5/5.
There was a lot on this record. Plenty of attitude, and some of it was a bit crass. What was really missing were catchy melodies. I felt like only 2 or 3 songs captivated me. The rest left me a little bothered and/or annoyed. 2 Stars.
Not a fan of hers but went in with an open mind, hoping to learn something new. But it didnt really do anything for me.
Not my bag
Didn't enjoy it.
Got through an hour before I gave up. thought I would enjoy it when I started, but it never seemed to end. Too long
OK, I get it, she's a superstar, everyone loves her, blah blah. But I only tolerate Beyonce, I've never found her music particularly inspiring. Her sister, IMO, is way better and completely overshadowed. I won't deny she writes well, probably has some good production game, but like I said I tolerate her nothing more.
Bland snd overlong.
We wooookee up in a kitchen sayin "how da hell did this shit happen?" oh baby. low key liked "Mine" too haha
- I don't fuck with celebs who won't boycott Israel. - As you know, she’s got a great voice (except the high notes on No Angel… I hate hearing people try to sing outside their range). - Felt like this had a lot of filler, but there are a few bangers. XO was great. I also liked Heaven and Blue. I expected more bangers for a super produced pop album. It just felt very background music, and there were tracks I definitely disliked, like, 7/11 and Flawless (except for the speech). I mostly didn’t feel anything when I listened to this, and it didn’t make me want to dance, so I can’t see myself ever reaching for it. - I keep seeing people say that this is empowering, but I don’t feel that - it seems mostly centred on men and the male gaze.
Just couldn’t get it. I respect the artist but not my cup of tea.
There are some eras of Beyoncé that i like but this wasn’t really one of them. Also I accidentally listened to the platinum version so it felt about 30 minutes too long and i had to listen to drake :/
..
At the beginning of "Pretty Hurts," I could swear I heard the voice of Mel Brooks ask Bey her aspiration in life. It turns out that was the voice of Harvey Keitel--Mr. White, himself. Of course, Bey replies "To be happy." That is also my aspiration in life, which is why I never want to listen to BEYONCÉ again.
Just not for me.
Predictable and programmed. I’d love to hear the real Beyoncé.
Highlights: Rocket, Blow. In a nutshell: "baby, let me blow your mind" Beyoncé is an album is what you’d expect from a mainstream pop artist with writing collaborators, multiple producers and has a brand/reputation to maintain: obscure alliteration (eg rhyming shit with equivalent), familiar (ie predictable) vocal range, synth beats. However, what sets this title apart from Taylor Swift’s albums from this era is the lyrical content. I was anticipating fourth wave feminist lyrical themes, which I got. I was not expecting a sex jam on this album, which I was impressed by. This doesn’t change my mind about one thing- I would still add Lemonade to the list. Overall: 4/10
I would call Beyoncé the most pretentious pop artist, but unfortunately Taylor Swift exists. I believe that she puts a lot of effort into her work or whatever, but what’s the point of talking about it so much when you have a team of over 100+ people, infinite budget, and the output is literally nothing special. This is not the worst r&b/pop album I’ve heard. Most songs are just pretty uninspired and boring (and too drawn out) but not offensively bad. I like Haunted and Partition, but that’s pretty much it. Just another corporate album produced primarily by financiers instead of artists. Not unlistenable and well produced, but there’s little to find here in terms of artistic value. 5/10
Great voice—and certainly not unlistenable—but a little one-note in theme & probably has some of the worst Disc 2 B-sides I’ve heard in my life.
Beyonce is a horny mom who wants her pink skittles eaten. Good for her.
How do you rate somebody that is clearly, objectively very good at something you really don't enjoy? I can't be giving her a one star but I can't stand this kind of music and I'll never be consciously listening to this again.
Eh. Overproduced modern pop. Interesting that there was nothing here I really recognized. I'm also surprised this is the one album from her that made the cut. If Lemonade was here my guess is we'd be getting at least a 6 outta me. 4/10
I don’t get the hype.
Nah. 2/5
Another excellent example of a pop star having such an over-inflated self-worth that they cannot be bothered to trim their album down to a tight 45. We didn’t need all these songs. 2 stars
Superior to the likes of most pop stars, Its still not very great
What an overproduced mess this album is. Turns out having about 10,000 writers and producers on an album can mess with its cohesion! Sprinkled in are elements of disco, soul, and R&B, but the dominating sound is hip hop, which in my opinion doesn’t suit Beyoncé’s talents. She has a hell of a voice, let her sing! There were only two songs on this behemoth that let her show off her vocal talent; the rest were a lot of talk-rap over complicated beats and showy production. Dangerously In Love (2003) or I Am… Sasha Fierce (2008) are much better albums suited for this list, and it’s stupid that this was the one Beyoncé album the author chose for the list. He’s not good at evaluating pop music (but loves having 500 British bands from the 1960s on here!). Also, a second ‘fuck you’ to the author for going with the Platinum Edition of the album, making it a bloated 93 minutes. 2/5
Important caveat, I have a bias against music that is more about the performance than it is about music. I also have an aversion to the celebrity culture than emerges from music that is as much a product of industry promotion as it about the actual songs. When you use >30 writers and >50 production technicians to create an album, it will never feel personal. The fact that the album was largely created when a bunch of celebrities met at “camp” retreat--read mansion in the Hamptons--is a bug, not a feature. Despite my biases, I tried to give this album an open-minded listen. I’ll admit that I liked this album a little more than I thought I would. There are some good songs here, but great songs? I’m not sure about that. I’m glad that I listened with my throw away account (something it took me an embarrassingly long time to pay attention to with this project). I found nothing on the album particularly moving or interesting.
Nice production and a great voice, but the songs dont really grab me in the way I expected from /Beyonce
Wat saai
This album drives me cray cray... På en dårlig måde. Rå P3 oplevelse. Sangene er ikke dårlige, de er bare ikke den oplevelse som jeg er ude efter.
Jeg forstår det ikke
Wow, I didn't expect to actively dislike this as much as I did.
Honestly, nothing that bad about it but I think I'm just into her singles over an album experience.
I’ve been on a run of truly awful albums. My last five probably average 1.1 rating. Disenchanted.
This thing is built like a skyscraper. A feat of architecture and collaboration. But I'd never have as much affection for a skyscraper as I would a cozy cottage.
Never listened to a Beyonce album before. Won't be seeking another. Not the worst album I've ever heard but for every mildly catchy hook there was something they (and it is a they when it comes to this album) seemed to programme literally to just be annoying. By the last few tracks I gave up. Also, I'm quite prepared to listen to an international pop star sing "punish me daddy" or whatever but when they song is written by a committee including Justin Timberlake it just feels icky.
It’s ok, just not my type of music
Alright so it had "Drunk in Love" which was a hit but honest to god I do not understand how Beyonce ended up as famous as she got. Rest of the album was just ok. Alot of is just talking into a mic with some weird music in the back which is... not good. 4/10
Look, I've never heard a Beyonce album before. I've heard a lot of her music on the radio, both solo and with Destiny's Child, and have almost without exception, hated it. She can sing, but I can't stand her voice. All the shite about being independent - that's cool for one song, but becomes grating and increasingly like a calculated marketing move rather than a lyric with any personal truth behind it once it appears in single after single. But I'll listen to this and see if I've missed anything. I want to love as much music as possible. I can't love this. I tried. Open mind and all that. But this is just garbage. And not even fun, throwaway garbage. It's a needlessly hyped star having so much money thrown at creating a product but forgetting the ideas, the soul, the music. Ludicrously over-produced and yet feels cheap. No restraint in any aspect. The vocals are unnecessarily over the top to the detriment of the songs that might otherwise be listenable. Most songs would not be listenable even if you had an interesting voice doing their best work. If you strip everything back to melody and message, most songs wouldn't work. Satan bless her, she's a trier. Tryer? Who knows. I'm not saying she's not talented, but that's the absolute bottom of the barrel bare minimum you would expect of someone who has been a cog in the hit industry for decades. But there's just nothing here. Every note and word rings hollow. It's as erotic as a drunken, diseased, and decrepit grandmother forcing her dusty loins upon you. It's as smart as a MAGA podcaster. For a pop album, it's alarmingly free of melody. Most songs are some barren beat and nothing else. There are irritating sound bites. It's too long. This is an easy one star in my mind... It people love her and her music for some reason, and I get that this was likely influential.
Écouté vite fait, ça va mais pas marquant
I got excited to see a Beyoncé album but there were 0 bops. Not for me unfortunately.
I did not like It but It is not so bad.
4/10 Music through committee. You can hear the meetings and the flip charts that this derived from. You can't put your finger on what music loses when you run it through the machine repeatedly, but Beyonce captures it. It has some moments, but this is meant to the preeminent pop of the last 15 years.
I've heard a lot of Beyonce and I think maybe one song hit? So I don't feel bad about this.
Voy a escuchar la edición estándar que ya es mucho para mí. Cero interés por mi parte, no le voy a dar una estrella porque las reservo para los discos malos (que los hay). Ningún tema famoso. La nada.
Overrated drama queen.
Some abrasvie hip-hop, some fine if uninteresting pop, a lot of just boring nothing. I don't get the hype.
Beyonce went off the rails with this one. The two previous albums are full of iconic songs. There's nothing memorable here and it's far too long.
Meh
This just bored me completely
quite dull
Tsja, het is luisterbaar, zit af en toe best wat tussen, maar is echt niet voor mij.
This album doesn't just feel like the something produced by a corporation - it sounds like a corporation. You can feel the many hands involved in ever track - writers, producers, features "collaborators". What you don't feel are musicians. Or musicianship. There is nothing here that feels im any way organic. I'm not looking for a guitar solo or piano line - even her voice sounds like its part of the assembly line. Lauren Hill, Missy Elliot, Taylor Swift - all escape being just a product because there is real character in their voices. They all have real expressions of who they are woven into the music. I have no idea what is trying to be said with this album. Some tracks were enjoyable - Jealous comes to mind - but overall I was a little confounded by this obviously very expensive, very shiny object.
I get it if you like it, it is extremely hair salon core Will I listen to again: 0%
Overall a good album but a lot of the themes are definitely lost on me.
It did kinda surprised me, but still a boring and massive album to listen to!
I don't want to repeat what many others have already written here but to put it shortly: Beyonce is overrated, overhyped and this album is just a pop record written by dozens songwriters, produced well to make it a huge commercial success. I don't really find it real art, because it's not genuine. Beyonce's voice is good and the album is not entirely unlistenable, so it's a generous 2 stars from me.
This record is not without it’s moments - the Prince send-up “Blow” or the slow burn R&B of “Rocket” are both real high points, but on the whole it feels like antiseptic, manufactured pop carefully assembled for mainstream success (perhaps its the 44 writers, directors, and producers that were involved in its production). Just not my jam, even if I can appreciate the spectacle of it. But on the whole it leaves me cold.
Beyonce is undeniably a talented singer and performer, but nothing about this connected with me. Pop music written by committee and produced to within an inch of its life. There's obviously catchy tracks on here, but it all feels so sterile to me.
I kinda understand the mass appeal that she has but I really don’t care for this rap/R&B fusion here.
Not for me but it wasn’t horrible.
People like this? It's very boring
Not my cup of tea
Drunk in Love
I don't like hip hop. But this was better then most
Meh. I’m sure someone out there would see this as a classic, but it’s not for me.
I can see why it's on the list, but her music just isn't for me. Personal enjoyment: 2/5 Relevance to this list: 4/5
Solid pop record with r&b flourishes but then she referred to her "fatty, daddy" and I feel dumber for listening. The lyrics didn't get better either (turn that cherry out)
This isn’t really my thing
Sigh... fine. I resigned myself to listening to the original version (not the platinum edition - second disc) As I'm not Queen B's target audience. Polished? Well Produced? Sure. Took a peak at the full Wiki article and I'm not sure I was surprised to find the amount of song writers for some of the songs, Drunk In Love and Blow have 8 credited. Is this a problem? No, but it probably ties in with the excess of the album. Its Catchy, Poppy, Thoughtful.
I would've told you this was 5 stars when I was in high school. It does not hold up
Beyoncé wants you to know how bad she's been, and will continue to be, and how you better give her some serious deep dicking, but she ain't gonna take your buster ass to Red Lobster yet, that come later... after she does...
I believe I am being truthful when I say I am not sure if I have ever heard a Beyoncé song prior to listening to this album. Having now listened, I believe I am being truthful when I say I am not likely to ever listen to another Beyoncé song.
Not for me - SC
Liked the pop stuff, not the rap, and the ballads were a bit painful
Listen, I know there’s art out there that’s straight up Not For Me, and Beyoncé is the epitome of that. Production pretty immaculate, first few songs I was like oh I get why people are rabid. Then the rest of the album hit and holy shit someone needed to cut this thing down.
I found it quite dull to be honest, like some of the songtexts
I don't know to what extent I can blame myself for the disappointment I felt about this album. She's a great vocalist but this was just not showcasing it at all - it got boring pretty quickly and it just made me feel like I was in any clothing shop
Honestly - I found 90% of this album boring and uninspired; completely forgettable except for Heaven. I won’t be back around to this one.
ja ze heerft een engelenstem maar het is niet mijn genre
Great voice. Too much rap singing and screaming. Synthesized music is terrible. What a waste of a voice in the league of Etta James, Nina Simone, Mary J, and Whitney Houston.
And a half it’s not my style of music but I did find some of her songs enjoyable
Boreoncé
My first time knowingly listening to a Beyonce song, much less a full album. God, I'm so glad my formative years were the 70s and 80s!
Lyrically tends to be throwaway inuendo more often than not and falls into a slickly packaged pop-dance frame. A few bits of music/beats that are interesting. But too stylized without much to really say.
Langweiliges R&B Gedudel ohne sinnvolle musikalische Ansätze. Schade mit der Stimme wäre mehr möglich.
I listened to most of this album. She’s good at what she does, though this isn’t my favorite of hers; I wouldn’t likely revisit it.
Great voice, shitty songs
I get that this was revolutionary as a release in its day but it's not art that resonates with me personally.
Objectively not good. I expected more from all the hype
I guess I can't appreciate R&B music. For me this album was... It just was.
Not my thing at all. Very difficult to even rate her voice as the album is very produced
пуснах го ама не разбрах кога свърши и почнаха рандъм спотифай неща
I did not need to listen to that before dying. Solid production, but soulless.
I added an extra star because I used have a crush on her
Как-то совсем не пошло.
Despite this being huge when it came out, none of the songs rang a bell with me, which I was surprised at. But then again, none of them seemed very memorable to me either. If I had to choose a standout, I quite enjoyed Blow. My goodwill with this song was eliminated when Drake turned up later in the album though.
Boring. Nothing even Top 40 catchy. This one makes no sense to be on this list.
Beyoncé fronts a team that makes very polished, fairly catchy, mostly forgettable music. I have nothing against her, but absent a few songs over her long career, I could not care less about anything she has ever done. I also feel like the majority of her fans are fans of her as a “yass queen” icon than as a musician. I could have lived without hearing this album.
Mediocre at best which is disappointing. Clearly Beyonce (and previously Destiny's Child) love an 'intro' (I recommend the Writing's on The wall for a fake Godfather scene headed by Beyonce). I felt like the songs were all first drafts. She obviously has a great voice but I found nothing stood out. The only song I sort of liked was the disco 'blow'.
Not sure if it's my thing Liked a here and there song Didn't really ring And it's too bloody long
I have always felt as though I should like Beyonce more than I do. I respect what she has done and the arc of her recent music, but, I have struggled to find any song or album I listen to when it is no longer "the moment." This album is very produced - not necessarily a bad thing in 2010, but, it does put some distance between the listener and the audience.
Drunk In Love changed the mold of my outlook on life in 2013. What a song. What a song. Timeless, that one.
