Reviews (page 6 of 7)

a ton of songs that are only 2ish minutes long which i really like because rly complements the fast-paced, energetic punk rock genre so you just get spurts of different songs to rock out to, but they all kinda mesh together

Average

Production: 7/20 Songwriting: 12/20 Innovation: 7/20 Bangers: 15/20 Emotional response: 9/20 = 50

Not bad. I’d listen again.

Ok. Don't live it.

Ihan menevää peruspunkrockia. Voisi toimia livenä hyvin jollain hämyisellä klubilla, mutta levyltä jättää snadisti kylmäksi. Soundeista tulee kovasti mieleen Supergrass tuoreemmista bändeistä. Peruskolmonen.

Fun, but not my style

It’s fine. “Sixteen” is a jam tho.

Good poppy punk... don’t rave about it like some though!

Initial post listing ranking: 3/10 Type of music / Reminds me of: British "people" Thoughts: I'm very much learning that these 1001 records are very much skewed in one genre direction. Did skip a lot of songs tbh. Do not really care for British rock this morning. Some elements to many songs are very repetitive and annoying. First 2 songs did not make me excited about an album when I hear annoying shit in the first 1 second. Favorite Track: NA

Sounds like any other British punk album from the time. No real comments about this one. Rating: 3/10 Favorite Song: Fast Car

Akosi ma na to extra nezaujalo...

Another one with flat dreary vocals.

Not a early punk fan I guess.

I'm not a car person either, so I'm not mad :)

I was like “I guess this is okay” but then I had good music queued up next and realized I was settling like sandy in grease

*sigh* another British punk band that somehow has a spot on this list.

I only know Buzzcocks from 'Ever Fallen In Love', which is a great track. I've been surprised by several punk albums on this list - it's not one of the genres I'd ever listen to outside of this list. This was another listenable album though. No real standout tracks, but not one track that had me reaching for the skip/off button.

Unfortunately only one track I found ok. Just not for me.

Just not for me in the slightest.

Hressandi á smá stund og verður hratt þreytt.

This isn't my weakest 2, but it's not a very strong one either. Maybe it's because I didn't listen carefully enough, or maybe it's because we've already heard a few albums in this space, but litmus test the sounds like the Ramones if not less interesting

I like the energy, but this kind of early punk is not that interesting to me

Appreciate the punk energy, but it does get a bit trying after a while. Love Bites is a much better album.

one-note pop punk

imagine if they got a real lead singer

I've never heard the Buzzcocks, I have only ever heard their name in the context of Never Mind the Buzzcocks. This first contact with them is underwhelming, some pretty standard punk. It's fine but sounds a bit dated and clean these days, just washed over me, although the final track, Moving Away From The Pulsebeat, with its pounding drums, piqued my interest a little.

I find it hard sometimes to identify exactly what differentiates good punk from bad punk, but this is definitely bad punk.

There was not a lot of good here. It just kinda sucked. The singer isn't great and none of these songs really went anywhere. Some were fun, and that posts the rating to a 2 probably. It wasn't terrible just not great Liked Songs: "Fast Cars" , "Get On Our Own" , "I Don't Mind" , "I Need"

i can only do so much 70s punk…

Wasn’t for me

Not much to say really but was fine

fav songs: no reply energetic, punchy, repetitive 40/100

Punk, 1978 -> 2

(1.5) please lord stop making me listen to british punk rock

I guess I can't understand british?

The same music in the same damn British kitchen. Favorite Track: "Sixteen".

I don't remember the single "I Don't Mind". The album hasn't aged well and sounds dated. My favourite tracks on the album were "Fiction Romance" and "Moving Away from the Pulsebeat".

I already hate cockroaches, let alone ones that buzz. 2/5

It sure is a punk album

Buzzcocks have some bangers but this fell flat for me

Vrij vlakke Britse punk. Voelde dubbel zo lang als het daadwerkelijk duurde.

Liked the music but not too fond of the vocals

i can hear the influence on future pop punk bands like green day decades later

About two months into listening an album a day, it has become obvious that this list of 1001 albums leans very much into American/British rock music. A bit too muchZ Now, I understand that the Buzzcocks are pioneers of British punk, but really, this is a top 1001 album? It lacks the timeless impact of Nevermind the Bollocks and isn’t musically interesting like some of their later work, or music by The Clash, for instance. 2 stars. Only because I’m in a good mood

I tolerated one song. I have heard enough punk music to last me the rest of my life.

Didn't do much for me, honestly. Fiction Romance and Moving Away From The Pulsebeat are both kinda solid, even if the latter goes a little longer than it should. Just not my genre, I guess.

There’s a lot of raw energy here, but it’s all very monotonous to me. It’s just all so much noise to my ears. I can see how this would be very captivating to a lot of people who had tired of the self-righteous pretentiousness of most 70’s mainstream rock. But, it does nothing for me.

This feels like the UK's answer to the Ramones, with the number of one dimensional power chords. I like some of their songs, but not really in this album unfortunately. I think it gets better towards the end, but it already feels a bit dated by 1978, where punk bands had moved on to more broad sounds

Another Music in a Different Kitchen is the debut studio album by the English punk rock band Buzzcocks. It was released in March 1978 by the United Artists. The album includes the single "I Don't Mind", which reached number 55 in the UK Singles Chart in May 1978.

I found some of this was good, but thought a lot of it wasn't. The rest was maybe OK while strangely boring for a punk record. The vocals were a bit grating and the music wasn't all that memorable. While I wouldn't necessarily call it bad, I can't say I found this to be anything very special. Overall: 1.9/5

Boah ne, tut nicht Not

naja, nichts für mich

More brit punk that doesn't really do anything for me. It's got decent energy and is fast moving, but it's just more punk. Nothing to see here

Punk was enormously important for music, especially in the UK, but I’ve got to admit this just bored me after a while. As a snapshot of a moment, it works, but it quickly loses its novelty and charm and doesn’t stand up as a great album.

Sure is a lot of punk rock in this list.

I suppose the whole purpose of punk rock isn't to sound good

Somewhat juvenile. Didn’t wow with any songs.

It's seems like fine punk, but it doesn't really do anything for me. I will not intentionally come back to this album.

Apparently, this album is the third different line-up this band has had, despite it being their first album!?!? Not a great sign. I cannot stress enough how much I dislike the singing style on New Wave-genre bands. It's just not good, and it takes away from what is pretty good 70s punk rock. Like the bass lines rip, and the guitar riffs are pretty solid. That's really about where the good things end for me though. When the instruments click, it's pretty nice! But the singing ruins most of the good things going on, and it really doesn't click all that often. On "I Don't Mind", the singing actually doesn't suck terribly, so it easily locks up my favorite song on the album. Favorite Song(s): I Don't Mind

Kommen nicht an ihre Vorbilder heran.

Didn't wake any emotions in me. 1.7

Das war schlecht, aber nicht das Schlimmste...

The vocals ruin it for me. I won’t be listening to this again.

Not too interesting to be honest. It's like punk lite especially from the '70's. I enjoyed some of the play on mono/stereo.

2,5 / 5 + Second half is really good + strong album opener song, cool outro song + There is no bad song... - but most of it i don't really care for - at first it felt a little generic sounding and didn't feel the Energy many reviews were raving about - first listen i didn't have too much opinion about the whole thing, which normally is bad Fav: Fast Cars, Fiction Romance, Autonomy, I Need Least Fav: -

Bissl anstrengend

this didn’t make my cock buzz.

M’oui Des airs a la rolling stones Toujours le même style…

Du rock et je n'ai plus la patience

The are many musicians who decide to create an album of a popular genre of the time, when maybe they should slow down, and have a think if they should. This is an example of said musicians.

Struggling between a 2 and a 3 for this one, because it’s just a completely fine punk album. I guess my lack of feeling predisposes me to give this a 2.

Early British punk rock, with a little hint of Malcom McLaren and a whiff of The Ramones.

Wasn’t a fan. Kinda sounded all the same to me. Has that Ramones vibe though

This was a rough listen whilst driving at 7.30am on Christmas eve! I almost turned it off, but to be fair two of the later tracks were ok.

Bit heavy for me

Early brit punk never does it for me.

70er Punk-Rock. Kann man hören, muss man aber nicht. 2-3/3

there's a few too many english punk bands on this list....

maybe it's just because I'm sick, but I feel nothing but irritation while listening to this

The name of the band is great, but the music is a bit meh, nothing too exciting. It's overall alright, but it's not super cool nowadays, possibly because it's relatively old.

Meh rock. Didn't make an impression

All the songs sounded exactly the same. Punky, same progressions. Autonomy was decent. Didn't particularly enjoy the rest.

Nope not this one… came out rocking but that is all they had.

Too much English punk for me.

Didn't get too deep into it. Was pretty put off by it in general.

Sounds very much as an English punk band from the era. The singing, the distinct sound from the guitars, and the lyrics. I get why this and bands like this were big and great during their time from a historical point of view. Myself I don't like it very much usually and this album shows me why yet again. Its just not my vibe, had to specify more than that since its entirely a preference, nothing bad inherently in the album itself.

Not the biggest fan of punk. SORRY NOT SORRY.

The longest 35:48

Rough sounding, lame and boring.

Punk rock. Idk what else to say. Not really my genre, but I can listen to it from time to time.

Average punk album

I did not know punk could be so dull...

Just mediocre and annoying

Loud british noise. Not my jam

The lead singer's voice is awful and really keeps me from enjoying this album! low 2.5

This is one of those albums that resulted in my spending the majority of the time wishing it was over.

This is pure English punk from era when English punk sounded just like this. Not good, not bad but I have nothing bad to say about this album.

A lot of punk riffs tend to be simple and repetitive. But some of the melodies on this Buzzcocks album are also simple and repetitive, and I find the songs a bit grating. Maybe it's also the singer's whiny wail. I found myself wincing through the first few tracks. “Get On Our Own” hits a nice stride though. It’s got an almost soaring quality. And a little later, "I Don't Mind" has some great 'Oooh-ooh' backing vocals. I love that. “Sixteen” is an interesting one. I can’t remember another time I heard a punk song that could also be described as a march. There’s definitely more going on here than I thought at first. Solid musicianship but not a lot that I connected with. 2.5

Bratty but not good

It's not as annoying as their last album, but it's still not doing much for me.

Nothing remarkable. Just punk. favourite: "Moving Away From The Pulsebeat" 2,5

I feel like there are 900 punk albums on this thing

Cover 4 Meh.

Not for me

Punk: lots of energy; good songs (or talent) - not so much. 2/5

No destacan entre las bandas punk. lejos de the Clash o the Jam

Enjoyed the instruments but did not really like the vocals or lyrics Standout songs: Love Battery Autonomy

All I knew about the Buzzcocks before I heard this was the song What Do I Get? Presumably from a car commercial 20 years ago. I think that may have been all I needed to know. Punk is a pretty overrated genre there I said it.

Definitely 70s punk sound.

Solid punk/post punk album. Makes me wish I could skateboard, would be a solid soundtrack for that. Sound-wise, not a lot of variation track over track

Fairly straightforward brit-pop/punk. Some decent songs and driving beats help keep my attention, but a lot of the riffs sound almost identical between songs, and I found the vocals particularly unpalatable. Shorter runtime is a plus, but nothing overly worth coming back to. Top tracks: No Reply, Autonomy

This album was all over the place. Would never listen top to bottom again, but a few great songs just save it. The good the bad and the ugly probably balance out. Fav Track: Autonomy 4.9/10

new wave

Interesting punk music. Did feel a bit like the same song a number of times over though.

Not for me

Oh here comes more late 70s punk... great

Not my cup of tea zeg maar...

Yet another "just fine" album

Not intolerable but by no mean good

This one had some good songs, but as an album I can't say it was good

Not really my thing, brah

Didn’t do it for me…

So far, a few songs in and it's pretty boilerplate brittish punk rock. The rest of the album didn't stand out either. This is like the 5th punk album the author has recommended that wasn't good, haha. I like punk, or at least I thought I did.

I've heard of Buzzcocks before, but I've never listened to them. With a few exceptions, I haven't really been that big of a fan of most of the late seventies punk albums that I've reviewed. I consider myself a fan of late seventies post-punk, but for some reason, albums like this tend to miss the mark with me. I don't have high expectations for Buzzcocks, but I'm going to keep an open mind as I dive into this one. Unfortunately, my prediction about this album held true, and I didn't care for it too much. The guitar playing on "Fast Cars" was nice, and it gave me home hope for the rest of the album, but I thought "No Reply" and "You Tear Me Up" were pretty boring, and neither one of those songs offered anything unique or interesting to my ears. I liked the energy of those first three songs, but that was about it. I enjoyed the guitar solo on "Get on Our Own," but other than that, I didn't find anything particularly noteworthy about it. The rest of the first side of the album plodded along for me, but things did pick up a bit once I got to the second side. The backing vocals on "I Don't Mind" mixed things up again, and the guitar work felt a bit more varied than what was on the first side of the album. "Autonomy" had some of my favorite guitar playing on the album, and the bass line was really good too. The drumming on "Moving Away from the Pulsebeat" was really good, and I liked the screeching guitar playing that was utilized. Even though those few songs on the second side stood out to me, most of my enjoyment of them came from them breaking up the monotony of the rest of the album. I didn't think there was anything special about Buzzcocks' approach to punk, and this album really didn't do much for me. When it comes to seventies punk, I think I'll stick to the Clash.

Another Music in a Different Kitchen – Buzzcocks (1978) | Punk Rock | Avg: 3.8/10 | Favorite Song: “I Don’t Mind” So this one really didn’t do much for me. Another Music in a Different Kitchen feels like a band trying to ride the punk wave without really carving out a compelling voice of their own. “I Don’t Mind” was the one track that stood out, and even that felt more solid than standout. The rest of the album landed in the 3–4 range for me—just a lot of similar-sounding, punchy tracks that blur together without much payoff. The energy is there, but it’s not paired with memorable writing or hooks. What hurts the most is how repetitive it all gets. You can feel the urgency, but after a few songs, it becomes hard to tell one track from the next. I get that punk thrives on simplicity, but here it feels more like monotony. The pacing lacks dynamic shifts, and vocally it never really breaks out of that flat, almost mechanical delivery. For a debut, it might have made some noise back in the scene, but from a critical lens today, it just doesn’t hold up. This one’s more historical footnote than essential listening.

nevermind the buzzcocks

Weird 1970s vibes

Gawwwwd.

Maybe punk is not my thing. One one of the songs really grabbed me. I will say I was surprised by the musical virtuosity. My expectations were way below how well they played.

No suenan del todo mal pero no es mi género

I fear that the Brit rock isn't for me

Ive never been into punk and this album did nothing to change my opinion.

Not my bag

I listened to that entire album and genuinely can't remember a single track I listened to.

There's punk and punk. No doubt this was an important band at the time. At the time I didn't get anything from this band

Nope. Just not my thing.

Ist okay, haut mich nicht um, aber in seiner Zeit bestimmt legendär

Didn't really click with me.

BUZZCOCKS

Punk, quick, dirty, no surprises here

Original punk rock can be tough to get through decades later. At times this felt more like a buzzkill than the buzzcocks

Decent punk rock. There are better bands out there. Strong 2

Not really for me, too punky for my taste

War okay. Ich habe die Lyrics aber nie verstanden und irgendwann nervte es.

Ah this takes me back to 2014

This is pure original PUNK ROCK from the late 70's. It is a thing of its time. The major songs from this era have the nostalgia factor. unfortunately that does not include these. Not my preferred Listening material, though it deserves its place in history. 2

I got everything I might expect from a buzzcocks album. It’s ok.

Medium punk.

Didn’t vibe with this 2/5

a pretty ok album

Another punk album. Ok

their album a year later is 10x better than this one.

It starts interesting. But then becomes really repetitive. I have the album "singles going steady" and I like that one much better than this one. With this kind of music, I always have problems with the "raw factor": like out of tune guitars, the ocasional drummer not keeping time but most of all, I really can't stand the vocals. I know punk is all about the feeling, vibes and lyrics but I have a big trouble enjoying the vocals on every band like this. To each their own I guess.

This is punk and I mostly did not like it. Only took away one song from it. Just so repetitive and nothing that interesting happening. Same formula over and over, gets tedious.

Punk that isn’t as aggressive and in your face. Rough genre to rate.

mi ha causato un meltdown pubblico

Can’t deny their energy, but after three songs it all kind of blurs together. 2.5/5

Not my style

SINGLES BAND

When I saw the year this came out and the genre I braced because my gut told me this would not be for me. My gut was MOSTLY right but I did find it interesting in a few spots. I still having gotten the taste for punk quite yet I don't think but I didn't completely hate it at least?

Gear: ZMF Bokeh Artwork: 🫤🫤🫤🫤 Production: 🔊❗️🔇😐 Music: 🧷🤔🤷‍♂️ Rating: ☎️☎️/5

I don't know, man. I just didn't understand this at all. 2.5 stars

This is the first time I've listened to a full Buzzcocks album. I've heard a few of their songs in the past, but it never really grabbed me. Some of the songs here are pretty good, and some really miss the spot. The vocals grind on me pretty quickly on a few of these tracks, which is odd, because it's the same voice on the other tracks, but it just works better. Lyrically, it's not the type of punk music that is going to make me come back for more. Since I didn't listen to them when younger, I've very curious what the nostalgia bias is with this band. The back half of this album really saves it for me. From Sixteen to the end of the album, I was WAY more interested in every aspect of the music than on the front end. But still not too interested. One listen was enough for me... It's what saves it from being closer to a 1 for me. I'll go for 2/5

Pre punk pop? I wasn't impressed.

Not sure why is this on here... its pretty average..

2.5 - Meh

It was OK. Not amazing.

Yet again, just give me The Clash.

Its fine. Too many punk albums on here

very interesting! british punk isn’t my thing but it was worth trying out once

Fav song: Moving Away From The Pulsebeat Despite being one of the bigger UK Punk bands, I feel like Buzzcocks just kinda lack any attitude personally. Production sounds a bit weak and the lyrics didn't really hit home for me either.

The singing is so off-putting that it distracts from the exciting energy and decent (as far as punk goes) instrumentation. The melody is nearly nonexistent in every track, and yet the singer somehow manages to sing out of tune. And violently so. His hollering is wavery, untrained, even a bit grating. In addition, the Buzzcocks have placed this horrific tinny filter on the vocal that makes it sound degrees of magnitude worse. I don't normally pay attention to lyrics, but these ones caught my attention for being your standard fare of punk clumsiness: "My mad love battery wants to charge you / My mad love battery could maybe enlarge you" "Makes me wish I could drop / Dro dro dro dro dro dro dro drop / And I don't like French kissing / Because you swallow my tongue" "You tear me up, you're a bloody swine / All this slurping and sucking / You know it's putting me off my food" One criterion I always consider when judging an album is how it works as a whole experience. Does the album tell a story, even if only emotionally? Energetic ups and downs are a must for any good record. Punk tends to get this wrong (being high-energy by nature), which is why I think it's a genre that albums simply aren't equipped for. Another Music In A Different Kitchen is no exception here. There aren't any "down-tracks" or ballads to break up the tiring passion and anger. All that being said, this isn't the worst I've heard. Some of the riffs and basslines are pretty good. 2/5 Key tracks: Fast Cars, I Don't Mind, Fiction Romance

Shameful display of punk rock (or something similar) by Buzzcock, offering us an album full of... punk rock. I'm fully disappointed, even though I had no expectations beforehand. It's just 15 minutes I lost and will never get back.

There's just so much better punk today. Sure they were some of the ones doing it first but this is outdated. Only interesting in historic terms

Raw, in a good way with an infectious energy. This is a good showcase of punk at the time, but not an album I’d return to.

The Good: the words “another” and “different” in the same title… The Bad: grammatically it might be okay, the title makes no sense The Ugly: that they just didn’t stick to being the band that helped name one of the greatest punk albums ever… I don’t like punk, but I do appreciate the fact that they, at least, keep their songs to around 3 minutes max, so it’s easy to listen to one song without being overburdened. As I don’t like the genre, I wouldn’t be able to explain why The Sex Pistols used part of this bands name in their classic album, but maybe it’s because these lads are the OG? I don’t know… I don’t care… Will dish out 2*...

Early rock style with teen angst vocals. A good testament to garage rock, but not one I'd listen to again.

This album was decent but didn't really do much to stand out from the sea of other BritPunk bands of the era. The guitar slips off-time and the songwriting is really basic but I didn't hate it. I think I just prefer more aggressive, dirty punk. This was like the Sex Pistols without the sex. A lot of the songs sound the same and I think something was wrong with the cymbal at one point but I liked that you can understand a lot of the lyrics (although very juvenile). I'll give them a 1.60 because of the upbeat, ongoing energy throughout.

Sopivan yksinkertaista ja melodista punkkia että tästä voisi jopa digailla. Jotain silti jää puuttumaan ja ei nappaa. Niukasti tipahtaa gagoseen.

Ei ollu kovin häävi

A fun and solid punk rock album which outside of pulse beat track does not offer much ground breaking , Regardless a fun and interesting listen , excited to run or workout to this … idk if a punk rock could ever make it to a 4/5 for me though as this is fairly solid

I was watching Nevermind the Buzzcocks last night. The adverts before it starts are as follows. Oura ring Polestar 3 Disneyland Paris John Lewis Michael Lors fragrance Singleton whiskey Nuromol The Buzzcocks would be turning in their graves if they were dead. This album was ok.

Meh. Punky

Yup. Late 70's angry punk. Nothing to spend much time listening to.

too rowdy for me

I seem to be saying this a lot, but although I didn’t hate it, I won’t be listening to it again.

Ok, but a bit repetitive.

Another punk album I wish was over by halfway through. Low 2.

A guy I knew called them the Lightning Choads. Funny. Good, not great

Easier to listen to English punk rock. Late 70's.

I don't know - - -2.5? but gonna go 2. I hear the quality but just not connecting

Borde kanske gilla det här....

70’s British punk. It all sounds the same. Indistinguishable vocals, loud for loud sake garage sounds. Not for me.

Few album covers and titles have evoked such emotion as this. As with most early punk, I found this to become tiresome pretty quickly. Some decent drum/bass exchanges with a few standouts tracks in the mix: You Tear Me Up, I Don't Mind, Fiction Romance. I didn't hate it, but it's certainly not my cup of tea. 2 / 5.

I started with I Don't Mind and got my hopes up. It went down hill from there. Not my genre I guess. Strong 2

Didn’t care for the first half of the album. It’s a debut album, but it feels too isolated and rudimentary on some of the songs. Either the lyrics are isolated and sound bad, or the instrumentals are isolated and sound uninteresting. Garage band feel, which has its charm. Second half of the album changed up the sound a bit and got more consistent quality. Standouts: I Don’t Mind and I Need.

Hohum... AH, this was just after the departure of Howard Devoto as the vocalist. That's probably why it doesn't resonate with me.

No thanks. 1.45

Not my jam 🤷‍♂️

The whole album sounded exactly the same, from the first song to the last. 4/10.

Pretty average 70s Brit punk. The vocals became annoying pretty quick.

The title is accurate because I really do wish I listened to another music

Fast cars No reply You tear me up

Brit punk. Nothing noteworthy.

FAVO: I don't mind

This album like many others on this list demonstrate why this is such a bad list. Now many English punk rick artist are in this list. Answer way too many. This album only made it 55 on the charts. Why is this even considered as an album that you must listen to before you die?

Ok, nothing special

Fast Cars was straightforward enough for me to enjoy it. The rest was straightforward enough for me to get bored. I don't even know what I want. Not this, apparently

I didn't care for the style of music, although it did have a little weirdness to it, which I liked.

There were maybe 3 songs that I thought totally sucked. I almost stopped listening after the first song. Dumb lyrics, crappy vocals, simplistic. The rest was ok for me. But def more background than something that I am going to intentionally que up. But the first song was so bad the album gets a 2. Who the hell does that. It’s like putting your slow weak hitting catcher in the lead off spot.

I put it on while working, and didn't take notice of anything until it was over. Well except for one thing - my concentration was briefly interrupted by irritating flailing of instruments which must have been at the conclusion of one song. Not good when that's the only thing that catches my attention.

Fairly good. It seems more fun and joyous than some of the other British punk bands from that era

Boring

At first I realized that I simply hate jazz, and now it's slowly dawning on me that punk isn't much better either.

Yeah this is the kind of punk my dislike for punk comes from

Like Fiction Romance and What Do I Get (already knew this one!). The rest of the album sounded a bit too samey for me - definitely them trying to find their voice. Each song had some cool moments but overall not my favourite. 2 stars.

first song was actually about to make my ears bleed. not a fan at all, could be worse. if I had listened to one of the better songs by itself it probably wouldmt have been rated so bad but when listening to all of them it really starts to make your brain hurt. not my style soz. it just felt like same-y rock music in my ears and none of the songs jumped out to me as memorable or good.

Old punk style. 2/5

I didn't even realize that the album ended, so it must not have been very memorable.

Oh to be at the dawn of punk when this meant something rather than sounding like a shambolic rant.

sounds like early punk. feels like early punk... i guess if you like punk you might enjoy that. I don't 2 stars

Better than a lot of early punk music but still pretty repetitive. At least these guys know how to actually play their instruments.

Maybe they were revolutionary for their time, but I feel like this type of punk rock is low-effort creativity and sort of strangely prides itself on fast sloppy musicianship. I didn't really like it, but it wasn't terrible.

1001 (British) Albums You Must Listen To Before You Die

Not my kind of music, sorry british punk but you are not good, best British punk album I've heard which translates to two stars.

Great name. Not so great album. It’s hard to differentiate all the punk sounds and this one kind of falls right in the middle of that. They’re not trash rage punk but they’re also nothing amazing and ground breaking. Of all the punk albums this is definitely one of them. I did feel that they were at least a bit better lyrically than other. But still two stars. 4.9/10

I feel like I've tried listening to the Buzzcocks before (maybe in this challenge??) and didn't like it then either. It's not horrible but I also just don't like it. There's something that's too grating, even when I'm expecting punk/post-punk music.

I really don't like the vocals and can't get past that. Behind them I like what I hear, often a lot. But the voice, the vocal style, even the vocal melodies ruin what would otherwise have been much more enjoyable.

i am not a big punk fan anyway, but you got to be either "behead the queen" like the Clash or super clever like the Dead Kennedys for me to not fall asleep.

Didn't notice when it switched to a different album.

nothing really stood out. wasn't terrible.

Was annoying to listen to.

Music was great minus the lead singer. Congrats to the band on making the list despite the struggles on the vocals.

I wasn't really feeling this one. I'm just not that into the sped up punk thing, I guess.

I liked it well enough. I guess. I think I just don't like punk so much.

I can appreciate it but I probably won’t revisit

Solid punk. Unfortunately, I can't do more than 2 punk songs in a row before I start getting annoyed.

This just dies not with for me. Hate the lead singer.

What interesting accents, it’s a shame England isn’t real.

Fever To Tell is simple driving indie punk. Karen O’s vocals are fantastic. The first half to 2/3 is very intense and the last bit slows down but doesn’t lose its intensity, mostly due to the vocals. Maps is obviously incredible but so are the songs around it Pin, No No No, Y Control etc. 8.3/10 6.0/10

Not terrible, but nothing I'd listen to again.

Buzzcocks were a buzzkill to a great day of music

Pre-eighties frenetic rock. Could have swapped the drum track between songs and not noticed.

I’ve heard the name but was otherwise completely unfamiliar with the band. It all hit like the same song that made me feel very much on edge. I’d like to say I’m too old for punk but truth is even in my youth the closest I got to enjoying this genre was The Violent Femmes and I don’t think the hardcore punkers would approve

Oh now that is some terrible musicianship and some trite lyrics. I don't like punk, but especially I don't like this punk.

When everything clicks there are some fun moments but this is mostly fairly unremarkable punk to my ears. Reinforces my preconception of The Buzzcocks as one-hit wonders, even though they were probably more successful than that. 2 / 2.5

My five year old asked me why the man kept sat Ng the same thing over and over again. It is so repetitive and dull, a child whose main music taste is 'Youtube' found it boring. Has it's moments here and there, but few.

Fyrir þessa hlustun þekkti ég eitt lag með Buzzcocks. Eftir þessa hlustun held ég áfram að þekkja eitt lag. Mér fannst þetta ekkert spes.

OK. Not my thing

I don't know what to think of this... maybe it's a 2, maybe a 3? Regardless it didn't impress me or made me lift any eyebrows really. Doesn't really provoke any type of emotion other than indifference.

Ok punk but not really my thing. Had to listen a few times to get into it. Really enjoyed "What Do I Get" the rest i could leave.

3 chords and a straight path. Slightly boring

Jag säger som min bror om the Stooges (fast rättstavat), "I'm too old for this shit". Punk är inte min grej

Sången är dålig och EXTREMT enformig och repetitiv.

Could be good but ruined by the vocals. Annoying, whiny voice.

Not the biggest fan of the vocals

There's way better punk albums

A bit trashy tbh

1. Fast Cars - i don't mind the chorus and I like the guitar, but don't love the singing style. 2. No Reply - don't like this one much, a bit repetitive for me. 3. You Tear Me Up - this one is ok, listenable but again the singing style is not for me. 4. Get on Our Own - this one is a little less pure punk but still don't like it much. 5. Love Battery - this one has an ok sound, the lyrics are a little odd. 6. Sixteen - weird again...do not like it, skipped. 7. I Don’t Mind - it's got an ok instrumental, but do not like it much. 8. Fiction Romance - didn't care for this one. 9. Autonomy - this one was ok, but a got a bit samey towards the end 10. I Need - just ok. 11. Moving Away from the Pulsebeat - at least this one was a little different, so appreciate that, although 7 mins meant it dragged a lot for me Overall, I don't really like punk so didn't really like this, not for me at all. I don't think they did anything groundbreaking (although I did read they were an early punk band, so maybe it was?) and really don't like their singing style. I ended up skipping a few because it got to be a bit much for me and it's a lot of the same sound, not much diversity for me. and like the songs go for like 2 mins, but it's still too long for me lol...

I respect it more than I enjoy it

Tracks are too samey, gets a bit boring

Budget ramones

Maybe 2.5. I expected better

I have become numb to punk albums featuring 4 black-haired British dudes looking at you on the cover. There's better stuff out there. Didn't hate it though.

i see the influence and power this had on the punk genre, i love how tight it keeps the tracks, i love that it doesn’t feel sleazy for sleaziness’ sake. i stopped it as pulsebeat faded out bc that’s so clearly where the record should end and is a great finish. unfortunately. i’m just britishphobic.

Not a fan of this one really.

Meh. Middle of the road brit punk shit. I know, I know, theyre a huge influence on other (better) bands and artists, but meh. 2/5

Punk guitar at a million miles an hour. It's just not my thing.

Not into this genre,

This music has zero depth whatsoever it's not bad to listen to but there's not much going on

Of all the Brit punk rockers I think Pete Shelley and Howard Devoto were two of the most talented musicians and they wrote some crackers eg Orgasm Addict, Oh Shit, What do I get and Whatever happened to. Unfortunately those songs are only available as bonus tracks on a subsequent release and aren't on this album. This being their debut is a bit more raw without the catchiness of the four tracks above so it gets dinged a bit. It would easily get 4 stars from me if it had those other tracks.

a little too punk for me

Probably would’ve sounded ok to teenage me 30 years ago

I really wanted to like this album, but it was too similar all the way through, and the tinny, trebly production didn’t do it any favours.

Decent but not memorable

Fast cars

the vocals are so bad. i pulled the rip cord immediately. The instrumentation was enjoyable otherwise. 2.

Eh. Not doing much for me. I was really hopeful with that opening track, that has a great riff and high energy. The energy persisted, but the instrumentals were a bit too fuzzy for my liking, hard to find riffs or melodies that stuck out to me. A couple here and there, but often it sounds like all the instruments are being played in a blender. I don't hate it, but I don't much like it either. Favorite tracks: Fast Cars, Moving Away from the Pulsebeat (really just the final portion), I Need. Album art: Sharp lines and sans serif text, off center small picture. Seems like '90s textbook or something to me, so I guess they're ahead of their time in one respect. I do like the name Buzzcocks, pretty funny. But cover is about as bland as the music. And the title's spot on, in that it just another album made by another British group I'll forget about in a week. 2.5/5

Not for me

Not as good as I hoped

Not my music

Another 70's British punk band, huh? Someone has a type. I'm a fan of this genre - I am - but this one felt lazy and sloppy. All the songs sound like the first "songs" I wrote when I picked up a guitar at 14 years old.

Standard punk - absolutely nothing original or innovative. I can see no reason for this being in the 1001 list. Punk is no more than OK at best, and this is average so it gets all of 2 stars.

Alright, could probably do with another listen but didn't really hook me

Tot nu toe het minste album voor mij maar het kan vast erger. Begrijp wel dat dit voor de tijd goede muziek was, daarom geef ik het toch een 2.

Is betere shit uit deze tijd
