Reviews (page 4 of 7)

good stuff, another band i’ve been meaning to get into for a while but never had the motivation until now

Never mind the Sex Pistols, here’s the Buzzcocks! Well, not quite. British punk still has it over American punk, though the screechy vocals get a bit old now that I’m a bit old. Good times with fuzzy, spiky guitars and biting attitude.

3.5. What sngles!

I like the Buzzcocks sound for this kind of genre, enjoyed this

Surprisingly broad, fresh, innovative, and progressive. 3/5 alright alright alright

Fun but not very original

I like the galloping guitar at the start of Autonomy I also like the chugs on the closing track Moving Away From the Pulsebeat

Pretty average punk here. Nothing earth shattering. A couple decent songs and a bunch of average ones.

Niet zo goed als Singles Going Steady

6 - guys voice is sub par but heard a lot of what the strokes would become in the latter half of this album

Uno de los discos más extraños qué he escuchado, no soy tan fan de las canciones super rápidas, el discos aún así tiene rolones, eso no le quita lo algo desigual que se siente el disco.

Fine little punk record

I Don't Mind

I've heard this album was one of the first in the post-punk subgenre. You can hear many elements of the first wave of punk on "Another Music in a Different Kitchen". "Another Music in a Different Kitchen" is very good compared to most post-punk albums that would arrive in the '80s. That doesn't mean it's a masterpiece by any definition. There are quite a few duds on the album. 3 stars for "Another Music in a Different Kitchen".

I really liked this. Super tight debut album, kind of brings together early Beatles and a less abrasive, more musical Sex Pistols vibe.

Would of loved this when I was 16

Fun, Energetic, and Forgettable Another Music In A Different Kitchen is a fun, energetic slice of early British punk that I'd never heard before. It's short, sweet, and entertaining. Great smutty pop-punk with some genuinely catchy moments. But honestly? I feel like I'm grateful to early punk rock for everything that came after it, but I don't really like it that much. "Fast Cars" is an awesome, breakneck opener. Fun, energetic, short. Great energy, wouldn't say the lyrics are witty tho. 6-7/10, added to playlist. "No Reply" is a catchy song, but a bit too repetitive for me. 4/10. "You Tear Me Up" is pretty fun but for me take it or leave it. 4/10. "Get On Our Own" has a stellar guitar solo that pushed it to 7.5/10. I like it. It's fun, simple, and raunchy. Added to playlist. Altho a bit repetitive, the guitar solo BANGS. "Love Battery" is raunchy but musically too repetitive. Not that big a fan. 3.5/10. "Sixteen" is interesting melodically but that's about it. 3/10. Weakest song on the album. Kind of dark, but meandering. "I Don't Mind" is catchy and I hear the Green Day influence. I give it a 6.5/10, in my playlist. "Fiction Romance" sounds different and the lyrics are good, but too repetitive. 3/10. "Autonomy" is good. Love the riff. The chorus feels like it drops almost into a minor key (I'm prob wrong, music theory who?) it's great. 7.5/10, added to playlist. I really love that melancholic, minimalist vibe. "I Need" is funny, musically and lyrically. But it's a bit one-note. 3.5/10. "Moving Away from the Pulsebeat" has a great riff but is just too long. I do like that it's almost an instrumental. The guitarists and drummer don't disappoint. The end is awesome, and if it held that energy the whole time it'd be in my playlist. 4.5/10. The album is enjoyable enough. There's nothing to be upset about here, but nothing to be excited about either. The songs sound similar throughout, the recording quality feels too lo-fi, and it lacks the punch you'd expect from punk. It's happy punk without the Green Day political edge, just good, smutty fun. On a real note tho, they really will put any old British album on this list, huh? Overall Rating: 6/10

#396/1001. Perhaps they were not the first pioneers, but theu did shape much punk to come, helping in their part melodies and catchyness become part of the genre. Not bad, but don't need to listen to the album, the best of is a much better listen.

yeah, was fun.

Happy punk without the Green Day political edge. This would be right up my alley, but the production and musicianship is rough to say the least. I'll give an extra star for being the Buzzcocks.

Første halvdel 4/5, anden halvdel 2/5. Punksange skal ikke være over 4 minutter lange!!

Kunne godt have brugt en kæmpe-banger eller to, men generelt fed! Kunne ret godt lide de lidt længere post-punk kodede sange på b-siden

Don’t fault those for giving 1s or 5s.

punk considerablemente más trabajado 3.5

Not for me, but I like that they’re punk but not obnoxiously punk.

Decent punk record, if not particularly memorable.

Buzzcocks… there’s a joke there. Buzzy cocks. Hahaha. Idk man. Like a vibrator on a cock. Or like… no probably the best joke there is vibrator on a cock. Whatever. This album is ridiculously boring. Save for the closer, which is hilariously good in comparison to everything else here, this is a really boring standard punk album that’s not emotional enough to cut deep, not heavy enough to be interesting, and not original enough to be worth my time. 6.4/10

Anything that wasn’t a straight up love song was great.

Bit one note. But not in a bad way

Definitely feels a little fitting listening to a song about hating fast cars whilst driving a van down the motorway 15mph under the speed limit It was enjoyable, but not that enjoyable 3

A fun one from early brit punks. I had fun.

Hey, do you like the Sex Pistols? Do you think the Sex Pistols would sound better if they tried to be a little more pop? This album is for you. Its good. It's only great if you *love* 2nd wave punk.

In a nutshell: we've been spoiled! You either found the Buzzcocks via their compilation "Singles Going Steady" or by way of a later studio album. If you were like me and are more familiar with their compilation, we were spoiled. There's great material on here, definitely. What lets the album down for me is the recording quality. It sounds too clean, too lo-fi. It lacked umph for a post-punk/pop punk album. Perhaps that was the style at the time? Overall: 5/10

Much more enjoyable than expected

True to its genre, this is loud, fast and simple. CLASH it ain't.

Guess it was alright punk. Never really kept my attention though

Generally alright I suppose

Adequate

El riff de guitarra de Boredom me ha recordado al Me and the farmer de los Housemartins, solo por eso me lo guardo.

Þetta var reyndar bara fínt pönk

Good enough to shake me back into enthusiastically continuing this death march. Only 41 more to go...

6/10 It's alright, but 50 years on it doesn't have the same punch - dare I say it even sounds a little flat. At their best, Buzzcocks wrote some of the most urgent and vital songs to come out of punk, but I'm not sure the album still holds up

It's ok, yet another britpunk, the adverts were better

Expected to enjoy this more than I did, as I quite liked the Buzzcocks when I was younger, maybe it was the later stuff I liked? This was interesting, but I would not revisit. I was tempted to give this a 2.

Good stuff 3

The music and songs on this album are good or great. But after 4 tracks I get so bored by the singer his voice. For some reason his voice sounds like he's a character in The Chipmunks. So that's why this album gets: 3/5

Guitars are fun. Vocals are...something. "Sixteen" is wild. Neat album.

Decent No comparison to Singles going steady but good enough

Not bad. I still prefer American punk, but this was pretty good, as far as Brit punk goes. Name funny.

Who they influenced is better than anything they did but this wasn’t bad

Sound like the Sex Pistols. 3.5

There are better Buzzcocks records. This isn't bad but there are certainly better ones.

thought it wasnt that special but i guess this kind of music in 1978 was revolutionary, still an alright album though

не мое.

Liked it - but feel like their second is better. Maybe 3.5

High energy and pretty solid. Esp the opener. Def inspo for Automatic

Fine punk rock but didn’t really grab me.

3 1/2 I Don't Mind < - -

More inconsequential punkrock

It was better than I expected it to be, and the production quality was fantastic, even on the non-remastered version. It's pop punk, but done right. However, none of the songs really stuck with me, so I feel three stars is a fair rating. A high three, but not quite enough for four without some classic track to elevate it further.

Not as good as Love Bites, I Don't Mind is a great tune. Still a solid album (3.5)

didn't like it at the start but it grew on me, music was great, vocals I could take or leave

I'm glad punk progressed beyond this. Fuck fast cars tho.

The Buzzcocks have the dubious honour of being the worst band I've heard live. That's not to say I think the band is inherently bad, but their particular set on that particular day was pretty damn rough. Opening act for the Stranglers, outdoor venue, not sure if the sound check was just weirdly, the acoustics of the venue didn't fully fly on a blustery day, or just a phoned in performance, but it was a real din. Very disappointing for me given I tend to really try and pay attention to the opening band. With that as my baseline my bar here was pretty low. The good news is they cleared it. This album certainly didn't blow me away, it had a little cluster of songs I enjoyed just fine, a lot more that in the week or so between listening and reviewing have drifted back out of my skull, but I certainly didn't hate my time here. Things could certainly have been a lot worse given my previous track record with the band. Don't exactly see what all the hype is about per se, but at least I can now more confidently say that at the very least they aren't just a bad outfit. I'll keep my ears primed to see if this redemption arc can go any farther.

Yet another album and artist that I've never heard of, though I think it can very easily be guessed that the genre of this album is punk. The album name and graphic design of the album cover are a lot artsier than what I traditionally associate with punk, but the late-70s release date and fashion of the band members is a dead giveaway. Anyways, here goes. Yup, on the money. This was an alright album. I'm not a punker by any means, but this release stands above the other punk offerings I've listened to thus far. The sound toes a fine line between being shitty/overblown and having a rich sound, with the guitars in particular having a nice, deep sound to them. Given that they make up the overwhelming majority of this album's instrumentation, I'd say that it was job well done. Moreover, the songwriting carries these tracks far, with the jumpy vocals pairing nicely with the aforementioned guitars. The vocals aren't much to write home about, but they get the job done. The runtime is about right for an album of this nature, and I came away with a mildly favourable impression as a result. Overall, this was a competent album. Book time. "Buzzcocks are rightly remembered as the poppiest of the original punk bands. But they were also the most sleekly modernist, and their debut album [...] shows a band who had not an ounce of spare fat. The band deliberately excluded their big singles from their albums because that was anti-corporate or whatever. The "...vulnerable boyish Englishness opened doors that many others, from Morrissey and Edwyn Collins to Damon Albarn, would step through." Wikipedia says this album was well-received by critics and appears to be revered by a few contemporary punk bands. Yeah, solid pick - this was definitely the best of the punk bands I've listened to thus far. I cosign this inclusion. ================== Album numero five hundredo. We are halfway through this mofugger, and I've enjoyed a considerable amount of it. These past hundred albums have been a real slog, and not just because I'm lazy. Over the past hundred listens I've picked up the pastime of assembling pre-written reviews for the albums I've yet to hear so I can offset the pain and misery of having to keep up with this list. Last I checked, I'd smashed out ~70 pre-written reviews, including all of the hip-hop albums, 69 Love Songs and Sings the Gershwin Songbook, the latter of which I actually rolled 6 albums ago. I'm now working my way through the albums that were removed from later editions of the book, which I'm close to finishing. I've kind of slowed down my pre-written review operations because of how long the removed album reviews take to write, but here's hoping I can get back in the saddle soon. On the subject of albums that were actually in this past hundred, I had some pretty fantastic pulls. I rolled five albums that were both new to me and were rated 4 stars, which is pretty fantastic by my standards. It more than makes up for how stagnant the previous hundreds of albums were. "A Walk Across the Rooftops" by The Blue Nile immediately comes to mind as a highlight. The album is pretty fantastic, though it's a crime that their follow-up, "Hats", never made it onto the list. That album is next level. "Casanova" by The Divine Comedy was another album I liked. There isn't much to say about it, really. It's just a fun and funny album with a ton of great songwriting. I've listened to it numerous times since first hearing it. "Halcyon Digest" was another album I took a liking to as a solid early-2010s indie rock offering, though I admittedly haven't given it a relisten. I'll need to hear it again sometime. "Timeless" was a solid drum and bass album, though there's only a specific time and place for listening to such music. "Music from the Penguin Cafe" was a rewarding album. Modern classical is a genre I need to sink my teeth into more, especially since one of my all-time favourite albums is a modern classical release (I Trawl the Megahertz). I've dipped my toes into some of the Penguin Cafe Orchestra's other works, though I don't think their other songs are as satisfying or engaging as their debut album. To round off this hundred-in review, I'll prattle off some miscellaneous points. It was good to revisit "The Bends" and "Duck Stab/Buster & Glen". My opinion on The Bends is more or less the same, but Duck Stab grew on me quite a bit. I think that album is fantastic. Bite me, thousand-and-eighty-nine albums generator website. My review of "Slipknot" stands as one of my favourites. I finished off The Smashing Pumpkins' discography with Mellon Collie. I can't say I liked the album, though my one-star review was certainly a little excessive - 1979 is a fantastic song. The first half of The Specials' follow-up album didn't interest me, but side B was pretty great with how unusual and experimental it was. I'll need to give that stretch a relisten. That was also the review where my forbidden autism powers unveiled eight fake list albums that were erroneously added to this website. It was good to listen to "Life Thru a Lens", if only for cultural and historical reasons. Morrissey's first solo album (it's ridiculous that there are four) was a major disappointment. Hopefully his other offerings are better. And, finally, it feels good to be rid of Joni Mitchell. Taking a look in the favourite artist trunk reveals that I'm down two albums since my last hundred. Not good. I'm about three favourite artist albums lower than where I should be if I'm to make it through this list with some of their albums in my reserves. Fortunately, The Flaming Lips have gone half the list without presenting themselves, so I'm glad to still have two great albums in my holdout. The Beatles: 2/7 Eels: 1/1 The Flaming Lips: 2/2 Gorillaz: 0/1 Pink Floyd: 1/4 (-1 since last hundred) Radiohead: 1/6 (-1) Total: 7 albums remain

Quite enjoyable punk romp.

Pretty standard early punk, does the job it sets out to do. Not particular standout tracks, but none that were annoying either.

definitely English and definitely punk, I respect the hustle. Favourite track: "Orgasm Addict" I guess, whatever man

English pop-punk pioneers. I've learned I don't really like this style; usually the vocals aren't my cup of tea, and the adolescent themes I find kind of unappealing (exhibit A: the bonus track "Orgasm Addict"). There's some worthwhile stuff here though, and as pop-punk goes I might rank this over the self-titled Ramones album.

A blast of an album. Had kind of a slow start for me, but tightened up pretty quickly and was a lot of fun.

They have a fun sound, but I thought a lot of the songs were too repetitive and sounded pretty similar.

Okay...punky, but repetitive

Not too shabby, some punk I can get behind.

Decent album, but didn’t quite grab me. Favourite track: Fiction Romance

Pretty standard tunes for the time.

Nothing earth shattering. It’s just an average punk album from back in the day.

I like the Buzzcocks and it was fun to listen to this. They’re always labelled as punk but this leans much more into that post-punk sound of Wire, etc al, which is a good thing. Whatever the label, this is a fine burst of frantic, melodic, guitar pop that paved the way for so many, even if it does all sound a bit samey…

Musical punks? Polishing shite

Typical British punk fare here. It's solid, rocking stuff with some decent lyrics, but nothing that'll blow your mind. It's like an old photo. Nice to look at, but you've seen it before. Spins: 1 Playlist Additions - Fast Cars - You Tear Me Up - I Don't Mind

This was really fun. I had never listened to this band that I heard so much about. Punk fun. Will definitely revisit.

Probably fresh and exciting at the time, now just generic punk band number 43. It's fine for what it is but I didn't get a lot from it.

Vähän niinkuin varhaista pop punkkia. Punkin kuuloista, mutta helposti nieltävää. Menevää ja ei oo sillein toistavaa kuin normi punk. Monipuolisia kappaleita. Parhaat: Fiction Romance, Autonomy

It's punk but pretty easy on the ear. This is a high 3 for me.

Snot-vocaled, late-70s British punk that delivers in all the ways it should, but never particularly surprises me from modern perspective.

Fine. Kind of samey as it goes on (as poppier punk can sometimes be.)

This was good. Got a bit boring towards the end, but it’s good old English punk rock. Far more refreshing than some of the more modern false punk albums that are on this list, and sadly rated highly.

Надо переслушать потом

I listened to this. Simpsons: Yes

I love 70's punk but the buzzcocks always passed me by a bit, with the exception of their hits and this did nothing to change that

Fine. Niet geluisterd in de keuken.

Favorite Song: I Don't Mind

Good album from the Manchester boys

Turns out I don't mind the Buzzcocks.

Punchy punk and legendary influencer. Like most of the early genre trailblazers, can get repetitive, but certainly not due to lack of energy or charisma.

This was a strong and fun debut album from Buzzcocks! Nothing too mindblowing but an energetic and fun punk album none the less. Overall, I had a good time listening to this album and would give it another listen in the future!

I have said it before and I will say it again ... my punk bar is set at Ramones ... and everything else, is just everything else.

This was a lot of fun

This felt like they were trying to imitate the work of others, notably Pink Floyd. If that was the goal, it didn't do well. I found the vocals too bright and annoying. That vocal style works great in some music styles, but didn't work for me here. Might be worth revisiting, but this one wasn't my favorite.

Not the most appealing thing ever. Nothing terrible though. I definitely liked aspect of this album. The singing isn't great and I don't care for the lyrics. It's solid punk.

Kinda rocks, kinda all sound the same.

This was fine. Sex Pistols clone.

It took me some time to adjust to the way the singer's voice sounds, but I like a handful of the songs.

Enjoyed the guitar riffs and had this one on in the background while I was tasking. Will I listen again? No. Was it bad? No. 3/5 stars.

pretend punk. lacks the frustration and anger to be really good. It was just ok wasnt overly impressed

I thought I'd already had this. It's another of those washed up bands I've seen at cheap summer festivals. I've almost had the entire lineup of the 2018 Kubix Festival now. This band, to my knowledge, had two hits. Neither are on here, which seems to defeat the point. They were okay to have a pint to in the summer. This was okay but nothing special.

Fast, good energy fun.

First time listening to more than a one off. Really solid album.

OK, even made me want to start sniffing glue at times.

Good riffs, good playing, terrible vocals.

I was positively surprised by the lsound of this album and the grooves. The singing wasn't to my liking and why on earth did the last song stretch on for as long as it did? Solid 2,5/5 and I'll round up to 3 stars as I was expecting this to be worse than it was. Best song was I Don't Mind or Fiction Romance.

Punk again. It's all ok but it does very much have the feature of punk where it all sounds the same. It's fine, but I don't find myself very inspired to keep going. Sticks the landing at a 3 I think.

Decent. Reminds of the Clash.

It was fine.

6/10 Pretty good early punk (??). I have no strong feelings about the album, but it doesn't repel me as much as punk usually does, so that's a plus, I guess.

Normally quite a big fan of this genre, but this album just didn't hit for me.

Magazine >

Liked it, not amazing for me but an easy enough listen

Bra om ingen annan musik fanns

These punks almost have me believing that I like their kind of music.

Brit Punk, ok, bringt meinen cock nicht zum buzzen

Enjoy this era of British punk. Wanted to like this one more than I did. Still not bad.

It was ok

interesting 3 *

Didn't mind the music but found the voice annoying.

Album #53 Buzzcocks: Another Music In A Different Kitchen Potentially their best studio album, or at least their most important. The godfathers of pop-punk were really the first band to go mainstream, blending punk attitude and vocal delivery with pop structure and instrumentals. So, because of that, their debut will always be the go-to album for a list like this, since it was the most innovative. However, their first three albums are all very similar in quality, which is why my preferred Buzzcocks listening comes from their behemoth compilation album Singles Going Steady, which combines all the best tracks from their first three albums; notably including their magnum opus: Ever Fallen in Love? (With Someone You Shouldn’t Have). But a lot of the best tracks are also on Another Music in a Different Kitchen, the album is very consistent and energetic, the only song I don’t really enjoy, though a classic, is Orgasm Addict, simply due to the moaning. Best Songs: Fiction Romance, Fast Cars, What Do I Get? Worst Song: Orgasm Addict Score out of 10: 7

I mean meh...they were okay, but it felt like simple bland punk. Nothing life changing or really pushing the envelope that much.

Buzzcocks are my new favorite cardio dance band. Perfect music for doing jumping jacks, running in place, & generally jumping around the room playing air guitar. Beyond that I would probably not listen to it. The Clash is still my favorite British Punk Band.

This was fine, it felt like standard British punk fare. I thought the lyrics were pretty good and it was rockin', but overall nothing stood out as wildly different or groundbreaking.

I liked it, but nothing really stood out to me.

It’s ok

Can see their influence in other music - it's kinda fun but a bit repetitive.

Favorite Track: Autonomy

Singles Going Steady is their absolute must, but this is still fun

Good Punk Rock with great guitar work.

Cool band! I can't say I'll become a full time fan, but the songs are great, catchy and well put together!

I wanted to ding this for sounding kinda shitty in the way that all punk sounds kinda shitty...but there was more than just noise on this album. Still plenty of noise, and the vocals are bad, but better than some punk. I probably would have loved this if I were a teenager when it came out, but alas this just ends up as "it could have been worse." 2.8

Decent punk album with a few good songs to me. Nothing blew me away but I was not itching to turn the album off.

Energetic, punky, and lowkey chaotic. Vocals were good and I loved the repetitiveness of the riffs in many of the songs. Absolutely loved the basslines and that deep strong bass sound added a lot to the tracks. 6.5/10, Favorite Song: Moving away from the pulsebeat

Only got through a few songs. Not due to lack of enjoyment, but lack of time.

Again, British punk is better. Still, there are limits if you aren't the Clash, but this albums at least did some interesting things, had some good instrumentation and hooks. And I liked the sentiment of the first song hating Fast Cars. I Don't Mind and Fiction Romance were enjoyable.

i want to give this both a 3 and a 4 and i keep going back and forth. choosing one on random now.

Not a big fan but I do appreciate these guys for what they are, raw rock and roll!

Easy 3 - I like the Buzzcocks but have never been a huge fan either.

shouldn't be surprising, but the guitar tone is killer

1 of 5. +2 stars for last track

Does these mean there are two Buzzcock albums on the list?!? Punchy, aggressive melodic. Not nearly as awesome as singles going steady though

Bissle zu simpel

о старый добрый панк, одни и те же тональности, одни и те же слова)

Sure, I don't mind. Brits did punk better than anyone.

Punk qui s'écoute bien, rien de plus à dire

This is fun and I love the Buzzcocks, but this isn’t even their best album

Feels like an album I'm supposed to love but I can't get into it.

I'm sure this is a well-loved classic among the punk cognoscenti, but I'll admit to the untrained ear this sounds a lot like the other half-dozen British early-punk-era albums in this collection. Fine, but not all that musically or lyrically interesting (to me at least), although Pete Shelley's weirdly distinctive voice and surprisingly romantic perspective (for a punk) gives it a bit of an unusual edge. "Sixteen" was a highlight, and funny to get a 7-minute-plus track ("Moving away from the pulsebeat") on a punk album.

Enjoyable though the songs seemed a little lightweight.

# Album Name: Another Music In A Different Kitchen # Artist: Buzzcocks # Rating: 3/5 # Comments: Not bad. Midrange in all honesty. I was expecting a bit more. In reality i got a few good tracks with plenty of average ones. # Top Tunes: Fiction romance / fast cars / i dont mind # Would I listen to it again? Couple of tracks

Raw early UK punk. Overall a pretty fun ride.

Again, this was alright enjoyed hit probs won’t add into the rotation

I had a couple songs I really liked. The energy was good. Not something I'll reach for but not a bad listening experience.

It’s pink.

Decent rock tunes, but the vocals are not my jam.

solid, all the tracks kinda blended together, strongest song was def the first and the last one was not good at all.

They’re relentless in driving beat and lyrics. Seems to be a very British them from a certain ilk of performer. This was a grower, thought I’d heard it all before to start but by the end I was brought into the fold

Kind of the closest thing Britain had to the Ramones, although they’re snider, shriekier, and less catchy. It falls into the large category of albums I liked fine but wouldn’t have put on the list.

12/8/25. Cool pop punk, sounds like this album influenced a lot of future bands, Green Day and Blink-182 come to mind. Cool arrangements and liked the drumming.

Slightly better than average punk.

Maybe on another day I would like this more; not today.

I liked it better than most punk I've heard. 3.5* rounding down.

I feel like on paper this should be right up my street but it didn't really grab me. Didn't know any of these tracks though. It was good, but I thought I might enjoy it more than I did. "I don't mind" is the clear standout 3.5

I liked a few songs, but really didn't like the guys screechy voice. Most songs were incredibly repetitive though or annoying. Still better than a lot of albums I've listened to though 3 ⭐️

The Buzzcocks are great and i enjoyed this without being blown away. It lacks a rawness that others of this time and genre had and also doesnt have a killer single or hook to get you onboard.

Overall Rating - 3.00/5 (6.00/10). Nothing particularly memorable on the album, but solid musicianship, and a classic punk sound.

Everything good and recognisable about Buzzcocks is contained here, even if their most famous song isn't. Definite period piece, but has aged better than most imo in no small part thanks to Martin Rushent's production.

Pas forcément le style de musique que j’aime écouter…

I mean, punk? Helt okej för att vara punk dock

This album is just a big ball of energy. Youthful punk rock at it's purest. I'm not a big punk fan by any means but found myself enjoying more of this album than I expected. Most songs didn't deviate very much from the same formula but it had some more interesting moments, including a surprising 7 minute track with "Moving Away From the Pulsebeat". I enjoyed the frantic pace of lots of the tracks here, props to the drummer and the bass player who I found shone through lots.

Typical punk

Excellent album, I don't think the vocals are strong to have held up over time, other bands have done this sound better. But certainly worthy of being considered a classic album.

Punk be punk. It's punk.

3.35 Good, but not memorable

Fun and frolicsome, without being outright, you know, filthy. Doesn’t seem now as exciting as it once must have done.

jo men gött ju

pretty fun. i wasn't super in the mood for this but i liked plenty of songs on here. i can see how they were influential. not much else to say

Great energy but somewhat typical punk.

It's fine. I'm not enraptured by these guys - I think I've been getting saturated by music that aggressively wears it's UK origin on its sleeve. I also like my punk a little less 'poppy'.

I really wanted to like this album when I first hit play. The guitars, drums, and bass came in and I thought to myself, "Wow, this might just be the punk album that makes me a convert". And then homeboy started...singing? Talking? Complaining? Comentating? Idk what to really call it. Like...I don't hate this. I really don't. I really want to enjoy it. I just don't really know what is up with the vocals here. I can't get over it for some reason.

Fast Cars is a pretty good song but after that this feels repetitive and derivative.

Buzzcocks is yet another band I've been meaning to check out for ages, but haven't gotten around to. I'm also scared to find it utterly crap and more pop than rock, lacking all that anger which I love in punk and hardcore. Glad to report it was pretty decent, very much in the Sex Pistols vein of things, but very much better played. I can hear echoes of things to come.

At times brash, at times whiney, all the time proto punk. If I heard this when I was in my late teens / early twenties I think I would have enjoyed it more. It's got that punk energy with cool guitar parts and vocals and it's set in a fun period of time where music production was starting to evolve. The back half of the album I felt droned on a bit. Really tracks 8-11 could have been one long song as it seemed like there were overlapping riffs and parts. 3/5. It's a cool little proto punk album. Not sure of it's cultural significance but I enjoyed it.

Задорный альбом, большего после первого прослушивания пока сказать не могу. 6 из 10.

Good punk rock album. 16 and Getting Away from Pulsebeat were very listenable. 6.2

Not into punk but this is what punk should sound like.

Not the best album.. not the worst album.. somewhere in the middle

Not a band I listen to in my youth. Liked their sound

Very early English punk album, this was a pretty good listen. A little lacking in the anger and edge departments when compared to someone like Minor Threat, but I can give it a pass since this was recorded in the mid-70s. Much more polished than I expected, it’s closer to pop-punk like The Offspring or Green Day than a true punk band. Overall, I liked it and wouldn’t be mad if I heard it again. I really wish there were half ratings, because it’s better than a 3 but not quite good enough for a 4, so on here I’ll give it a 3.5/5

3.5 Stars

Classic Punk album. It was a fun listen

Goodish early British punk album. Very sloppy and despite the lack of actual great songs also quite poppy. Better than The Adverts but not as good as The Sex Pistols. This one doesn’t have their main big song Ever Fallen In Love which is a bummer and it means that the Shrek 2 soundtrack is probably more essential even if the one on that is a cover version. The Buzzcocks did put out an earlier release called Spiral Scratch which I would also consider more important essential listening mainly because it’s about 25 minutes shorter.

I like the style of guitars here, the fast paced playing is fun. Though there wasn’t a lot of variance between songs, and the lyrics had a lot to be desired. Overall enjoyed

I like the Buzzcock's sure enough, but the album format isn't their strong suit. Singles (Going Steady) is surely the way to go with the Buzzcocks.

This did not do much for me to be honest. It was a bit forgettable. Also, this album cover is horrendous.

They can buzz my cock anytime

I liked the instrumentals, especially the frantic drumming. The overall vibe is quite fun, with lots of energy and some catchy riffs. I didn't much like the vocals, and none of the lyrics really stood out to me either (though I'm more of a music-first listener than a lyrics-first listener, especially for genres like this). Overall a good listen, but I wouldn't listen to any of these songs again on their own

I’m not much of a punk fan, but a huge fan of what came out of it, so always interested to hear OG punk bands. I knew these guys by rep but hadn’t listened to an album. Pretty solid and, to me, more interesting than the Pistols or Ramones. A bit more melodic, perhaps. I Don’t Mind and Autonomy are very good songs. The rest is solid

It’s a cute new wave punk album. Nothing spectacular but I enjoyed it enough

I'm not a big punk fan, the drive in the music was a bit relentless but I didn't dislike it.

This was good, fun, engaging punk. An easy and enjoyable listen and solid half an hour of good music.

Coulda been great but the singer sucks. The music is awesome though, that alone holds it up to 3 stars. It's a shame really, with a different singer this could have been a top album. - This is a lot of energy right after xx. Great intro - Oof singer lost me. Annoying and nasally. Wish he hadn't started singing. - I've decided I like punk rock when it doesn't suck. This one sucks. Punk doesn't suck when there are decent lyrics and decent singing. This isn't that. - Love the drumming. It's all over the place, swingy, kinda off beat and off-putting, but somehow holds the whole song together anyway.

This isn't a total reflection on the quality of this album, but now im in the last 200ish, I think its clear that ive gone past the point of true greatness, and ive got a lot of "okay" left. Albums that are fine, but clearly not particularly something you should hear before you die. Something like this will never get above a 3 or below a 3, it was born on 3 and will finish on 3. I think 800 days in, im struggling a little

Not my thing

This album did not do much for me. It wasn’t a bad listen but none of the songs stuck out to me. Better than the hives but still suffers from a lack of variety

Musica perfetta da ascoltare mentre studi/lavori. Miglior canzone è Moving Away From the Pulsebeat!

Tre stelle solo per l’ultimo brano che è un bel pezzo (non a caso quasi tutto instrumental). Per il resto mi piace il sound ma si devono stare zitti. Non cantate. E andrà tutto bene (quasi)

non mi è dispiaciuto

A good record but not my favorite Buzzcocks album. Certainly see the influence they had on punk and post punk music.

Very punk and raw, cool but kind of all sounds the same

++: Fast Cars, Get on Our Own, Fiction Romance, Moving Away from the Pulsebeat +: No Reply, Love Battery, Sixteen, I Don't Mind, I Need +-: You Tear Me Up, Autonomy 7,0/10

Instrumentally great, I did not get much from the lyrics.

Pretty good. I have lost my appreciation for classic punk over the years but I liked this one.

The Buzzcocks are fun, poppy punk. This album was a fun listen.

Banger alert!!! God bless the Buzzcocks, this whole album had me pumped from beginning to end while I was walking about town. The vocals were a little irritating at first but I came back around on them in the end.

Fav: Love Battery Least Fav: You Tear Me Up

Brit punk. No hate,no love either. It’s was fine and sounded like every other punk album Ive ever listened to

Good energy! Some of the lyrics were kinda funny. Nice bass

I enjoyed this, but not quite as much as I expected. Lots of driving drum and bass, chainsaw guitars, probably something that will grow on me with more listens. 3.4, I’m not quite ready to round up to 4.

Good, but I prefer the Singles Going Steady album over this.

This was fine, I never really listened to the Buzzcocks much, nothing stood out as fantastic!

Pretty good! Don't really have much to say. Kind of similar to some stuff I've listened to before, did enjoy it, but just didn't find it particularly interesting or impactful to me.

Raw Punk energy that propels you through the short punchy tracks. Different from the anger of other punk bands in this list, more accessible? Just a fun album from start to finish.

Another Music in a Different Kitchen captures the Buzzcocks’ mix of punk urgency and pop sensibility at full speed. The guitars are jagged, the tempos are brisk, and Pete Shelley’s melodic instincts keep even the rougher edges catchy. Songs like “Fast Cars” and “I Don’t Mind” show their knack for writing hooks that stick, even when delivered with punk’s stripped-down attack. It’s scrappy and energetic, with a nervous momentum running through the whole record. That said, the album can feel a little samey after a while. The sound is raw and consistent, but it doesn’t always offer enough variety to keep every track memorable. As a debut, it sets out their blueprint well witty, slightly cynical lyrics over sharp, driving punk but they would refine it further on later releases.

For me, this Buzzcocks record feels like if the Sex Pistols actually knew how to play their instruments but forgot how to write catchy songs. It's not a bad record, by which I mean, it's listenable enough. But, it didn't make much of an impression on me either; it kind of just sounds like generic Brit punk from that era (maybe they were ahead of their time? I dunno). I think I just wish there was something here that made me actively want to hear it again. 3/5

I enjoyed this a surprising amount! Punk normally isn't my cup of tea but this is great.

This was ok I guess. Not really a punk fan but I enjoyed aspects of this album. Very fast paced and not too angry, in fact joyous in parts. Will definitely listen again, oh and What do I get? Is a certified banger!

I'm well aware of The Buzzcocks in terms of their legacy around the influence on the Manchester music scene and beyond. When they hosted the **Sex Pistols** at The Free Trade Hall in Manchester on 4th June 1976, in attendance were, not only Pete Shelley and Howard Devoto, who at the time was the frontman of The Buzzcocks, but also Peter Hook and Bernard Sumner, Morrissey, Mark E. Smith, Tony Wilson, John Cooper Clarke and even Mick Hucknall. So it can be argued that without that gig, we wouldn't have had **Joy Division** (and therefore **New Order**), **The Smiths**, **The Fall**, **Television**, **Factory Records** (and therefore the likes of **The Happy Mondays** and the **A Certain Ratio**) and... ahem... **Simply Red**. Whilst we'll never know if that's strictly true, the folklore behind the gig is arguably as influential as the gig itself with all and sundry claiming to have been there! And whilst the claim is that it was the Sex Pistols that were the ones that influenced everybody, listening to this, their decut album, I certainly hear more influence of The Buzzcocks in the likes of Joy Division's gritty post punk sound than I do the pistols. And for me who's not a huge punk fan, it's those moments on this album that I enjoy the most in songs like _Autonomy_, _Moving Away from the Pulsebeat_ and my ... **Fave track:** Sixteen

just sounded like pretty generic late 70’s punk to me. nothing wrong with that, honestly.

It was fine, enjoyable enough, but probably wouldn't go out of my way to listen again. Highlights: I Don't Mind

A great album, though not one I would actively listen to again Fave songs: Sixteen, Moving away from the Pulsebeat

Shoulda been different music in another kitchen. Good stuff from the beginning.

not my kind of music and didn't make much of an impression on me. but that's kind of a compliment for british punk music tbh.

fast cars- 5 no reply- 5 you tear me up- 5 get on your own- 5 love battery- 5 sixteen- 5 i dont mind- 5 fiction romance- 5 autonomy- 5 i need- 5 moving away from the pulsebeat- 4. gave me a headache orgasm addict- 5 whatever happened to- 5 what do i get- 5 oh shit- 5

Another album of which I can understand its quality, enjoy the listen now, but will never listen to again

It was punk for sure haha. Reminded me of a band I played in for a lil while which played similar sorta music haha

A hybrid mix between Punk and New Wave that was alright.

I didn't notice when the album ended, and random related songs on Spotify were playing instead.

Meh, ok

No es un disco muy memorable.

Four stars would be a top rating for me for a Punk band, and this is not too far from that. 3 stars or C+.

A solid late 70's punk rock album, I think I Don't Mind is the strongest track here, so I'll be giving it a 3.

I really really dug the instrumentals here - very ahead of its time pop punk - but man, the vocals were hard to take

I hate fast cars

Buzzcocks are one of my favorite punk/new wave acts. A very solid first offering, but Singles Going Steady will forever be untouchable.

Punk isn’t really my genre but they gave it a good go and I can’t say I disliked it really. 3 stars

Heard a different Buzzcocks album before. Honestly, I really liked it! Buzzcocks made some fun music 3/5

Good album - classic 70s sound. 7.3/10

Decent but I've heard better punk albums.

I did listen to this. It was not something I would probably listen to again, I guess? Just not my thing. Perfectly fine though!

Fine, didn’t grab me as much as Tension (2.5/5)

I’m not a fan of punk, but this was musical and interesting. The band is really tight and talented. I enjoyed it more than I thought i would. A solid 3.

Veel van hetzelfde. Niet vervelend, maar wordt wel eentonig.

Aaaa. Punk purity. Gets a three on my scale, only because I get bored with the beat.

-liked this way more than i thought i would. i wasn’t too hopeful after the first track but it quickly picked up, i love the high-energy punk sound so much -nothing really TOO groundbreaking for power-pop / punk-adjacent stuff but it was a really fun listen nonetheless -Favorites are No Reply, I Don’t Mind, and Moving Away From The Pulsebeat

Suppose it's one of the better sounding punk albums but still not that keen 3*

it was fun.

First listen

Ok, slightly old British punk but kinda boring.

Their name is apt because this music made my c… Hahaha jk it was a very solid album.

Thoughts before listening: Nice! I like the Buzzcocks poppy British punk although I've only ever listened to Singles Going Steady. I'm excited to hear what else they were up to other than their classic tracks. Review: This is pretty good although none of the songs have the immediate catchiness of the "hits" found on Singles Going Steady. Still though it shows a band that was involved in the early British punk scene, but really set themselves apart from that scene with their focus on pop melodies. These are catchy songs that are well played and were really influential to the later pop punk bands that would come to dominate the genre. 3-stars

Late 70's frenetic punk with some hooky hooks here and there. I know the Buzzcocks have some better singles out there, though.

Haven’t listened to much Punk Rock. In the 70s and 80s all I heard on the radio were the Ramones , the Clash and limited amounts of the Sex Pistols. This album was solid. High energy, fast paced, enjoyable listening. A few songs seemed to have a bit of bluesy influence.

I feel like there are better Buzzccks albums that could be on the list.

So I really wanted to like this more than I did because of how much I love Ever Fallen In Love, I Believe, and a couple others. Some of the highlights from this album for me were Fast Cars, I need, Orgasm Addict, Whatever Happened to...? I think this is a grower album for me because I like it the more I hear it which I find kinda strange since this is such a straightforward album, what you hear is what you get. Right now though I'm feeling a 3/5 on this. Definitely makes sense to have this band on the list given how many bands took up after them, but this isn't my favorite record from this period.

I liked this one. It's not anything special, but Buzzcocks have amassed a big enough good will with me from their amazing compilation Singles Going Steady, that I at least would always get some enjoyment out of this. Key tracks: Fiction Romance

Orgasm Addict What Do I Get?

Extremely okay, easy 3

Classic punk not my thing

A band hailing from the sacred origin: Manchester, late 70s. Considering the historical context, this is pretty good; but unfortunately, the Buzzcocks were more punk than post-punk... not terrible by any stretch, just slightly off the sweet spot...

Pretty solid for early punk. I can see why this made the list.

The Buzzcocks were a Punk band that I could take or leave. I saw them in 1990 and was still of the same mind. Haven't gone out of my way to listen to them in 35 years. But does that mean it's rubbish? No, it's very good in places. In fact the last 4 or 5 songs were excellent.

This is a good early punk album, but not nearly on the level of the Clash. Worth a listen to see what a slightly poppier, less political approach was. Once again would like the half star to give it 3.5.
