Reviews (page 5 of 7)
I really was not in the mood for this kind of music when I listened so I feel bad punishing them for it but it was just too much.
Good early British punk but for my mind others do it better.
Such a shame that this didn't live up to my high expectations! It's decent enough, on the line of punk and post-punk, but it's fairly one-note and there's not the kind of light and shade that the best of the genre gives you. They get some little extra points for being top lads.
Stands up okay enough.
Robust, tight punk rock. It sounds like they're having fun, which isn't always true of punk bands; I'm not picking up on a lot of anger here. The rhythm section really holds it down and pumps it up. It's a strong debut studio album, but it also kind of washed right over me. This just usually isn't a type of music I choose to listen to for like, recreation. Still, there are definitely some standout tracks I'll revisit (like Fast Cars, Fiction Romance, and Orgasm Addict).
A classic Punk offering from British band the Buzzcocks here. While it doesn't stand out compared to other punk bands at the time, there is something whole about the album. It's personality, artwork, sound, and production just make sense together
3-4
Yeah, I couldnt tell the songs apart. Just one stream of similar noise. Good noise, mind, just wish there was more variation to it.
The music is fine with all the usual punk rock ingredients. The vocals are a bit off though - this kind of punk energy needs more attack - more aggressive, more gritty and more snarly whereas the delivery on this sounds limp (to these ears).
Ok they did better
I understand that this is an important album, but it doesn't totally connect with me.
i understand that it was in the exorcist but it doesnt need to be 25 minutes long
Musically, this sounds just like 1978 should: punk blending into new wave. I really, really like the sound. Unfortunately, there are lyrics. And someone sings those lyrics. And that drags the experience down. Way down. Because really, the band sounded fantastic otherwise.
This is excellent punk music that also feels like it would be the perfect soundtrack for a movie that can't afford more well known/established punk rock. The quality is there, but the lyrics and even sound of the lead singer seem like they're not quite ready for prime time.
3 maybe 4
Bueno
forgettable punk
Sounded good if you like punk rock.
Canción destacada: Autonomy
pretty good, like the sound
pretty good
Despite hating fast cars, the opening track is kinda the energetic equivalent of driving a really fast car. The drum patterns and fills specifically are really impressive for punk music, whoever the drummer is, he’s shredding! “Get On Our Own” has a really funny vocal holler on the chorus that was a highlight for me. The lyrics of “Sixteen” give me an uneasy feeling, which sucks because the composition is so cool and unique. There’s a handful of moments peppered throughout the record that make sure you’re paying attention. Worth your time / 5.
A couple of really big classic tracks
While many punk bands leaned into chaos and confrontation, Buzzcocks were masters of economy - delivering tight, hook-filled songs that are just as angsty as they are catchy. An album that perfectly bridges the raw power of punk with the infectious hooks of pop.
Very solid punk, but nothing to really write home about.
Not my favorite thing. But the whole love/hate punk rock thing on this app is weird.
Good ol' fashioned punk by a band I'm already familiar with
Decent punk rock, though we weren't overwhelmed with excitement. Probably would deliberately seek out Buzzcocks, but don't mind when they play.
Is it just me or are there like, at least 200 albums on this list that all sound identical to this?
I always think to myself that the earlier punk rock is simply not for me because a lot of the time it bores me since there isn't more to the aggression or the sound even if I do like the ethos. The buzzcocks got the poppier sound going for them and I do like some of the sings more than I'd think I would but it's not something I'd be coming back to any time soon, still it has some relatable songs and catchy tunes that I think someone more into this kinda thing would love.
3.7/5 can grow into a 4 if i get used to the first 4-5 tracks. as i’ve noticed with this project, i’m not a fan of most punk music. but this album feels more towards the rock punk genre and i have to say, i quite enjoy the second half of the album. the first four songs isn’t quite hitting me, but after love battery i’m really starting to enjoy it. the outro in sixteen is really cool. fiction romance is COOL, and the transition to autonomy is amazing. autonomy is my fave song from the album, but the last track moving away from the pulsebeat is a close contender. the drum beat absolutely slaps in that song!
Solid English punk
I liked this to some degree, some good riffs. In the end though nothing grabbed me enough for a save or a revisit.
Excellent riffs, solid rhythm and an oh so eva’ British sound. I enjoyed it but didn’t necessarily stand out or wow me. 3.25
La primera mitad es un punk bien básico y choto pero la segunda levanta y tiene una búsqueda más profunda y levantó lindo. Tiene un tema que es la base de 'Buenas Noticias' de Los Redondos.
3.5
I like most music, but Punk ist just not my thing. This was Punk I can tolerate. But honestly every song sounds the same
A few surprises on here... There's some songs that go past 2.30, that's a surprise! Although they are usually filled up with guitar intro fillers or a repeating outro. Stick with the quick punky blasts. Top stuff.
It's punk. I'm surprised to say it's a little more melodic than usual and the guitar work in places is pretty good, but it's still got it's root in that punk rock sound. Buzzcocks sound a little more fun and joyful than your typical angry punk band. I'm not the biggest fan of the vocals either. 'Fiction Romance' and 'Moving Away From The Pulsebeat' are the best tracks here. The former has a great, driving, headbanging guitar and the latter sounds a little less punk and is on the verge of being almost heavy metal. I can't give it more than three stars. Decent album but there are others I've already reviewed that I'd much rather listen to than this.
i like the music. do not like the voice that would be more at home announcing the names of clowns at the rodeo
It's Britpunk
More British punk, like this list doesn't have enough
Enjoyed it.
Picture an average British punk album. You can probably hear it pretty clearly in your head, right down to the terrible singing. That's the Buzzcocks, with the exception of a short stretch in the middle of the record which had some really good and more varied songs. Favorites: Fiction Romance, Autonomy, Moving Away From the Pulsebeat
Итс окэй. Лучшая песня - I Don't Mind.
Fast Cars!
This album took me back when I was 15-16 because that's when I got into classic punk, and I definitely was obsessed with the Buzzcocks. So, because of that I'll give it 3 stars. XOXO Maggie
the song will be called “goober” and the lyrics will be goober every day goober now my way goober goober you’re such a bloody goober
Fast Cars: I hate fast cars. Preach brother. They are so depressing, going around and around. Sixteen: Bra driv.
I thought this album was a ton of fun
Ok
Another fun and energetic but not especially memorable punk album. It’s much more frenetic than their big single Ever Fallen In Love (which came out on their second album only 6 months later) but nothing really sticks in your mind like that one does. It gets a bit more interesting towards the end when things get a bit darker, but otherwise it sounds like a lot of other punk albums from the same time
pretty straightforward punk, no complaints here
Raw at times but with enough melody through it to keep it engaging.
It was okay. Just kinda average early punk that didn't do much for me.
Decent punk sound. Didn’t seem to do anything to novel
December 27, 2024 HL: “Sixteen”, “Autonomy”, “I Need” Another Music in a Different Kitchen by the Buzzcocks is the 61st punk album so far
My instinct when seeing that a Buzzcocks albums was generated was to think, “I only know Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve).” But then I started wondering if they’d be one of those bands that you don’t realise that you actually know quite a few tracks of. Well, not this time. I didn’t recognise anything here. It’s all somewhat in the same vain, and I didn’t mind it, but it didn’t really captivate me of keep me wanting more. I had it on while driving and it didn’t make me want to turn it off, but equally didn’t make me want to turn it up either. It’s fine.
Boppy, fun, but not really me.
Fast and fun, like Buzzcocks are wont to be.
Think I wanted to like it more than I actually did. Fast Cars and I Don't Mind the pick of the bunch.
Borderline 3; 2.8 rounded up. A little bump for punk cred.
Hrmm, late 70's Punk. Sounds exactly as expected. Not bad, just not much grabbing me.
热血日漫了
A nice, quite poppy punk album. Sounds a bit like Ramones (short songs, the vibe) but not quite as good. Pleasant but I miss a bit of rawness.
Some pretty good gutter punk to start the first half of the album off. By "Fiction Romance" the cocks tighten it up and the 2nd half is better, more refined punk. Punk can sometimes be too repetitive and amateur sounding but this was a good snapshot of the early days in the genre and I was in for the whole thing. Less political and ill-tempered compared to other punk acts like the Sex Pistols...a good debut...2.7.
Another treat from the early brit pop genre. I'm always impressed when a group of 20-somethings can throw something simple like this together that manages to so effectively hit the mark. Another Music In A Different Kitchen is pretty solid 35 minute album. A handful of fun, varied pop punk songs with limited low points. This album holds up really well and seems to be ahead of its time as it feels like something that could have been released in the late 90's/early 2000's (or even more recently even) and still made a splash. I'll admit that I enjoyed my listen. Great selection by 1001, might have to check out some of the other Buzzcocks hits. 3.58 stars
I’m never sure what to do with the Buzzcocks. They’re not BAD, but they’re so generic and don’t really do enough to set themselves apart from the standard punk band. It’s like they were made in a lab to be fine.
Yes another punk album. It's ok, nice harmonies in some songs. Enjoyed some more than I expected (autonomy, i don't mind). 3*
Mediocre.
I don't know how I feel about this album, but plus one on top of whatever I end up rating it because of the band name 3/5
Favorite Track: Fast Cars
buncha punks
The buzzcocks are very influential in regards to punk and commonly considered the first real "pop punk" band. This album specifically is more straightforward punk, not too catchy but still light enough to make the distinction understandable. I like my punk, especially from this era, with a lot more give (and if it's "pop punk" it needs more power pop lean to it for me to fully appreciate) but it isn't half bad. No huge duds but no standouts either. Solid all around, if not a bit forgettable. 6/10
Decent punk music
Scuzzy, sharp and electric! Riffs galore, shouty, sneery lyrics! Awesome!
Its alright!
Alright
I get it for the time. I like the influence d bands better.
Sounds like they are having fun, although the lyrics can be a bit repetitive.
Fun punk album, not as catchy as singles going steady
Nice punk but it really comes and goes fast. Great songs but not really memorable and very little diversity.
good punk album. the instrumentals were better than I expect from a punk album
Sounded okay but it wasn’t very memorable
Among their contemporaries this was one of the punk albums that was easiest to listen to, but that was also probably why they were perhaps less influential to the late 70s and early 80s punk scene than say Joy Division, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Killing Joke, and The Ramones. I can hear how and why they influenced some of the artists I enjoy. Favorite tracks: "Fiction Romance" and "Autonomy"
Not bad, but they have one mode, and it does feel like the same formula over and over. But still fun. I'd actually be quite into a hypothetical scenario where this is re-recorded with a more indie rock production. With trumpets obvs 5.5 / 10 Good tracks: What do I get, Moving away from the pulsebeat, fiction romance
# 343 : They've done a pretty decent job, good album, it’s enjoyable and fun overall despite sounding very samey throughout. Not much musical ability required to make early Brit punk, just sayin'. Favourite Track : Get On Our Own
Favorite Track: Sixteen
I cringed a little when I first heard the singer's "talking" style but actually warmed up to this album as I listened - not my thing but quite fun. Rating: 3
I feel like I haven't had a woman in a while
It's not my sort of music.
Moving away from the pulsebeat is a belter.
I don't know if I have a solid opinion on this band. Definitely feels ahead of it's time in '78.
Positivt överraskad! Skojigt punk album. Bästa låtarna: I don't mind / autonomy. STARK 3
Punky little brits. I like this more than the other punk albums lately but still not my genre. 3 stars
Fine enough punk. A little longer than most punk albums. Has a lot of the same criticisms where it sounds like a lot of the same, but I feel like this album had a bit more variety. Still didn't wow me in any sense.
Lot of punk, little bit of pop. Nothing really jumped off the page at me. Some of the guitar work was really good though.
Immediately thought I was listening to Pink Floyd with the dial tone in No Reply. Feel like I've heard worse punk but also way better punk. Low 3.
I liked it. No more.
Rockiges Album der späten 70er mit teilweise powervollen Punkrock geprägten Songs. Es war ein ordentliches Hörerlebnis aber kein „Überflieger“.
I guess I should start by saying that the guitars and drums sound really good. They don't play many memorable parts, but at least those power chords sound good. If you played the isolated guitar part from any track I don't think I would be able to tell which song is which for the most part. However, the worst part about this album is the vocals. I just find his voice to be annoying. He is just a little too whinny, too high pitched, and too bri'ish. Despite all of this complaining, I didn't hate this album. It's just more late 70's run-of-the-mill punk. Low 3.
Punk bitch
I was concerned that a late 70s punk record would be a little too avant garde or noisy. But this was fun. I could see how this style evolved into some of the early 90s punk rock like Green Day
I couldn't believe this album was from the 1970s. The punk rock sound was so fresh and energetic that I thought it must be from a more contemporary time a la Greenday. This was a really fun listen, especially from a punk history perspective. Ultimately, the songs were good but blended together a lot. Not a bad thing, but it's the main reason I don't see myself listening to this one again.
Deece rocking
Meh.
Þetta er ágætt pönk, hressilega fjölbreytt og óvenju lagskipt miðað við stefnuna. Ekki mitt fyrsta val en ég gæti alveg meira af þessu.
Straight down the middle punk rock for me. Nothing super amazing.
Melodic punk. My main takeaway was the drumming. Although it could be because the last 7 minute song was almost entirely beats (good beats). Glad I stayed for the "credits" though. "You do you do you do you do too"
Not as edgy as some punk, and the singer is a bit more melodic than some punk singers (although still very punk-ish? punk-ey? punk-lik?). I think this is a good overall representative of the genre. It's not one of my go-to genres, but I listened to this album several times without getting annoyed or tired of it... but also without falling in love with it either. I did enjoy the last one (Moving Away From The Pulsebeat), which had a bit of a beach rhythm to it.
Think I had heard of them but had never listened to any of their albums...enjoyed this one. Punk edge that never went too far.
Good. Didn't get to spend much time with it..
just that standard, british, light punk-esque music. fine
Solid 70s British punk. A lot of Buzzcocks best stuff wasn't on studio albums though; given that compilations seem to be fair game on this list, maybe "Singles Going Steady" would have been a better inclusion.
I'm not entirely sure I heard a groundbreaking sound within Buzzcocks' Another Music in a Different Kitchen, though I recognize they were early on that pop punk scene. The vocals weren't anything spectacular, but that is often the case with punk from the seventies and eighties. The pop punk made for a fairly easy listen at least. I felt real kinship with the song "I Need," particularly with the lyric "I need cash".
Not bad for something in the punk space! It was coherent, wasn't too hardcore, and had a mix of new wave in it (which is a win in my book). As I have come to realize, a lot of punk is quick, short, and to the point, and this album is pretty much the same; it clocks in at just over 35 minutes. The longest song on the album (also the last) occupies nearly a fifth of that time, clocking in at 7 minutes. The majority of it is an epic closing jam, but the last 2 minutes are occupied by some silence and weird beeping. So...there's that. Really, it's too bad that this album is relatively unknown, because it's a great intersection of punk and new wave.
Listened Before: N Sex Pistols, is that you??? British pop punk from the 70s! Cool stuff. And much less political than the Pistols but very similar sounding. I dig it. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: What Do I Get?
It’s okay, it’s very retro and buzzy, it’s not clean for the most part but it’s okay to listen to, I guess I would probably recommend it to a very particular amount of people because it’s not very, very good IMO. 7.12/10
I thought I would like this one a little more than I did. I really like late 70’s British punk for the most part, especially the Clash, but after three listens this one didn’t really grab me fully. I liked it, especially the punk guitar work, and I don’t mind the vocals (much more listenable than Sex Pistols), but I personally don’t think it has very strong songs. Autonomy was the only song that I really gravitated too each listen.
I prefer the Singles going steady comp, but some good songs on this
A good amount of fun! That drum breakdown towards the end of the last track is very cool and rousing!
Never heard of them. Nothing really impressive.
3.5 I liked it but not enough to revisit
Punk but very melodic with a lot of good riffs. Nice interplay between guitars and bass on Fast Cars and the guitar tone is great. You Tear Me Up has a neat double time section, and Get On Our Own even has a solo. Fiction Romance is another catchy one. The drum intro to Autonomy bears a striking resemblance to Run to the Hills - coincidence? It's another strong song in any case with the dual guitars shining. Loses momentum with the long Moving Away From The Pulsebeat followed by the somewhat cringeworthy Orgasm Addict. I still liked this overall.
Fun style that reminded me of the Ramones
Pretty high energy. 2.5.
Not as much screaming as on other punk albums so it still deserves 3 stars.
Fun British punk album with good energy and some humorous bits. Nothing remarkable here though. Most of the songs sound really similar so I found myself tuning out a lot.
I wish I a) had a friend in a band and b) could say the band sounded like this
This was fine. It may have been more impactful when it came out but it's just a 90s album to me now
i need is probably the stand out for me on this album . again another album i imagine young kids in the 70s/80s listening to and their parents being like wtf is this trash and the kid is like you dont get it MOOOOMMM its MUSIC!!!!! its LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!
A bunch of wallies
Definitely sounds ahead of there time, was surprised this sound came out in the late 70s. Good quality early punk.
It was okay, didn't stand out much
With the best will in the world I cannot give this more than a 3. That Fast Cars one is a banger though and I do agree with him there
This was a fun, low key punk album. I doesn't sound revolutionary, but I'm sure it helped bring punk to a more general audience. I'm a little disappointed they don't speak to larger topics at large, like punk generally does, but it's still a fun album. Best Songs: Fast Cars, I Don't Mind, Fiction Romance Worst Songs: I Need, What Do I Get?
good punk pop
Probably should revisit when I get more into punk again
I saw British punk in the description and thought ohhhhh nooooo. Two things I don’t love haha. But pleasantly surprised! Not to much screaming, and actually melody to most songs. Guitar rips! Listen again: probably Purchase for my collection: if I found it cheap Favourite Song: Moving Away From the Pulsebeat
Proto pop punk.
This was kinda fun, I’d say.
B- Fast Cars 3 No Reply 3 You Tear Me Up 3 Get On Our Own 3 Love Battery 3 16 3 I Don't Mind 3 Fiction Romance 3 Autonomy 3 I Need 3 Moving Away From The Pulsebeat 4 Cmon fellas
#237. There's a lot of edginess here that doesn't seem to lead to any kind of point. There's nothing that makes me care or want to listen to them again. Like it's fine, but that's about it. 3/5: it's fine
2.5 stars. Early pop punk. "I Don't Mind" catchy and memorable. "Fiction Romance" repetitive but nice riff.
Much too intense for my personal tastes, but I was still getting amped up while listening to it.
LOL I gave this band a bad review cause I really don't like the Dexy's I probably dont like this band either, but at least I can come by it honestly. Reminds me a lot of the white stripes!
Alright but not fantastic
Good peppy rock!
Fast Cars and Fiction Romance are good. The rest are okay. Chad Alfa name. Cocks
Noch nie was von Buzzcocks zuvor gehört. Scheinbar in den Anfängen des britischen Punkrocks mitgemischt. Dafür gibt es von mir drei Sterne.
Decent album.
Short. Simple. Energetic. Punk rock. It’s vanilla to me.
A pretty solid early punk rock record that sticks out primarily through its striking riffs and melodic basslines. I do think the more traditional punk rock elements bottleneck this album, while its more ambitious elements elevate it - giving the band an almost uniquely electrifying sound. I enjoy the more dynamic 'Get On Our Own', the marching percussion on 'Sixteen' paired with these fuzzy layered riffs, and the soaring outro to 'Autonomy'. The ambitious and hypnotic closer is another highlight here and exhibits the band's ability to stray from that typical punk rock formula. While I'm not a fan of this general vocal style, Pete Shelley's lyrics and melodic tendencies allow for a generally enjoyable experience. I'd say this is most definitely the case on the catchier 'I Don't Mind'. While I do enjoy this album and its rudimentary and traditionalist take on punk rock, I'm left wanting more by the end when considering the more interesting directions the genre was heading in around this time.
I’m not sure that I have ever heard this band before, but it sounds like a lot of other punk rock from their time. And I enjoyed it for the most part but not as much as other bands.
Similar to my feelings on the Sex Pistols, I think this is one where you had to be there at the time to appreciate it fully. It's fine as punk goes, probably a bit more interesting than the Sex Pistols even, bit overall a bit too repetitive for me. I can definitely see it's importance though.
Fun Jams from a simpler time.
the back half of this album was much stronger than the front. favorite song: fiction romance, autonomy, i need
I don't have much feedback other than to say that yes this belongs on the list.
Super repetitive, boring and overrated.
Much better than advertised! 3/5
I’m a little punked out at this point, but an accidental second listening made this a bit more enjoyable than I’d first thought. Some of my cooler college friends were fans of the Buzzcocks (my brain always thinks of the band name in a Chicago accent because of one of them) but I’d never really listened to their music at length until today. I’m not going to be a super fan, but there definitely was some fun to this.
I think this came after the Sex Pistol's debut and it sounds a lot like it. I enjoy it so far (2 songs in). It's fairly catchy punk that sounds a bit more modern than The Ramones. I didn't finish it but I would listen to it again.
How many damn rock albums are we going to get
Album 369 of 1001 Buzzcocks - Another Music In A Different Kitchen Rating : 3.75 / 5 Good album. I'm appreciating the punk scene more than I might have in the past. I like this one. They wouldn't have came to mind before but will now.
more musicianship than you expect from punk of the era, it's really great throughout
Me gusta el punk.
Good beats and lyrics
Bit dated but then some really good bits.
Sounds like a mix between the Dead Milkmen and The Clash. Maybe inspired punksters?
Expectations were low, but marginally exceeded.
I kinda enjoyed this one. Didn’t know it even existed. Seems to be an early pop punk band and influenced a lot of people. Has me curious about what other albums they have that I might like.
honest seventies punk
Good
This is okay, I wanted to really like it but it was not my fav
Boy...this was underwhelming. I didn't hate it, but I had higher expectations.
I thought this was enjoyable, a nice melodic punk album.
Hooray. More British punk. My favorite. Those are the thoughts that were in my mind leading up to me listening to this album. However, I was pleasantly surprised by this album. Don't get me wrong, there are still some major problems I have with this album. The writing is a bit basic, but not the worst I've ever heard in an album. The singing is easily my least favorite part of the album. I just don't like it. However, the instrumental sound is enough to make my overall experience with this album somewhat positive. I can definitely hear how these guys influenced more modern groups like Green Day. There's some decent variety in these songs, something that most other punk albums I've listened to lack. There's a song in 6/8 time signature for crying out loud! This album has memorable parts to it, which is a godsend for albums like this. I will say though that the second half is quite a bit better than the first half in my opinion. Overall, while this is far from my favorite album ever, this is also far from my least favorite album ever. Good job Buzzcocks! I don't like your band name, but this album's alright. 3/5.
Pretty mid punk album really
Mediocre punk band
Pretty good punk album.
As an avid Ramones fan, I'm sorry I never properly listened to Brit punk bands like the Buzzcocks. This is a simple, powerful punk album and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Fun! I have come to learn I like 70’s punk.
It was fine. Autonomy is a banger.
Kinda liked it. Nothing I'd put on again but I didn't find it as offensive as some of my other contemporaries did
Straight up punk, plus a few more in the rock vein.
Another Music in A Different Kitchen is class old school punk, less anarchic and more having a good time, full on energy, consistent groove throughout, very listenable. Sixteen, Fiction Romance, Oh Shit probably my favorite tracks, if there's a major criticism it's that a lot of songs sound very similar, and his voice isn't my favourite after that much similarity, but it's an easy 3 and maybe a low 4 on a given day.
Quite gentle punk stuff, feels like it's had the edge sanded off. Means it lacks the real oomph and energy of something like the Sex Pistols, but it's definitely a bit more fun - the second half of the album in particular is really good. 3/5.
Was fun British punk but got bored after the first 3 songs…
3.5 stars. Fast-paced punk rock album. More in the style of punk rock, since the lyrics are hardly ever political, rather they're mostly focussed on romantic angst. Favorite tracks include "You Tear Me Up" "Get Your Own" and "I Need." "Orgasm Addict" caught me off guard for how juvenile it seems, but I suppose it's on brand. Energizing songs, although it's easy for songs to blend together/sound very similar.
This is pretty good. Like being stuck in a loading screen for Tony hawk pro skater and not being that bothered about it.
I like Fast Cars and No Reply
It was fine. Something about the Brit’s I can’t seem to get Pat.
its a late 70's British punk rock album and has all the earmarks. Hard sounding instruments, not great vocals and lots of counter culture hatred. not really my thing BUT I can see why its a favorite in those circles.
Normally everything about this album would annoy me. I’m not a punk fan and I do not like that version of an English accent. But this album just worked for some reason. It didn’t blow me away and I’ll never return to it but I enjoyed it during my listen and am glad I heard it before I died
Typical punk rock. Can see how they influenced many, and I like a lot of punk music. Just can't enjoy it when vocals are burried in the music. First few tracks are very momotenous. Some good power tracks on the latter half.
would be like a 3.5 falls into the genre of makes me want to kick something in a good way could i write poetry to this? y
3.5. Way better than PIL
Buzzcocks always makes me wish I was listening to the Ramones instead.
Early UK punk, fast paced and fun. Not much else to say
Tight, catchy but not as much as maybe later stuff
It's punk, more Sex Pistols than the Ramones, but not remotely close to being as enjoyable as either of those aforementioned outfits. This has energy, I'll give it that. Maybe it'll compel me to run for a while on the treadmill. One gets the sense this is an acquired taste. Maybe I just need to listen to it again in a different kitchen.
Enjoyable punk romp. Will likely listen again.
IDK what to say i think the buzzcocks are boring and the singer sounds like geddy lee. "I dont mind" Slaps tho. 3 stars.
Clearly foundational punk rock and enjoyed overall but its a bit repetitive for me as a start to finish album
Nice to get beyond the one song I know from this band - last track was definitely a fave for me!
Definitely loved "singles going steady" which, weirdly, some tracks on this album appear on that. So maybe it's a compilation? I'm really curious of their history and record releases but to talk about the music: really fast rock with a good catchy appeal. Just hook after hook after hook. May not be everyone's cup of tea (british) but one of my favorite bands of this style. Fast cars is a good opener. Get on our own is solid. Love Battery is fun. I like that these songs basically go real quick. Fits the energy. Even the long track "moving the pulsebeat" is brimming with creative playing for how straightforward their sound tends to be.
I feel like I should be giving this four stars, but today it feels more like a 3.25.
On this one, I was literally changing my mind about the album from one song to the next. I was appreciating the punk ethos and digging on the sparse, wanky sound. And then, next song, I was annoyed as hell. Then they'd reel me back in only to annoy me on the next track. And on it went. The stuff I liked was really fun. The stuff I didn't was repellant. I suspect I might warm up to it all if I were to listen more often... not sure when that might happen
Yeah, sure. 4 lads from Bolton in their 20s, making in tunes in 1978. I get the idea.
Punk rock, sérieusement ça sonne bien et j ai aimé elle vite. 35 min pour un album de ce type c'est juste assez condensé et sa frappe 3.75
Mixed feelings about this one, but I liked a few tracks- like I don't mind, I need, moving away from the pulsebeat.
I wasn't never a huge proponent of late 70s punk, but I enjoyed this album much more than I thought I would.
Hmm not the worst ounk
Super fun.
6/10. Sounded cool sometimes, didn't like the singing much.
Buzzcocky
Most of the songs sound the same. A little too early in the punk/new wave evolution. I bet they were fun live.
det finns uppenbara kvaliteter. Men efter ett tag tröttnar man ju. Dock bättre än the Stooges.
Helt okej skiva som växer successivt efter flera genomlyssningar, dock från en initialt ganska låg nivå. Ändå för få bra låtar för att nå upp till mer än en svag trea.
The drums really stick out to me on this album. The songs are pretty standard, but that is to be expected with when this was released. Overall, thought it was enjoyable. 3/5 Would listen again

Punk e tals nao é ruim mas nada de mais
Früher Punk Rock mit musikalisch guten Ansätzen aber teils schwachen und anstrengenden Vocals.
Fast Cars - 2 No Reply - 2 You Tear Me Up - 3 Get On Our Own - 2 Love Battery - 3 Sixteen - 2 I Don't Mind - 3 Fiction Romance - 3 Autonomy - 4 I Need - 3 Moving Away From the Pulsebeat - 4
I'm into it
What a silly band name!
ok punk, kinda boring
Never mind the Buzzcocks, wasn't that a questionable tv show?
The Buzzcocks have mainly passed me by, I always kind of hazily thought they were an American Ramones-style group. Nice to hear this bit of cheeky fun, like Bur meets the Sex Pistols.
Better than a lot of punk music, but 3 stars only because of the last song.
Another British punk band, another average album. This one particularly falls into that Ramones-trap of every song sounding the same, with many of the lyrics to the songs just being the title repeated over and over, “Fast Cars” and “No Reply” for example. “Sixteen” was probably the favorite track, but even that was hardly memorable. I think it’s always impressive to be hearing this kind of sound in the late 70s because I can understand the massive influence it must’ve had, but in retrospective it’s difficult to be impressed by a sound you’ll come to know as the same old thing when it comes to punk.
3.5 Same music in a 1980s British kitchen
Spennende 3.5
Solid ratty early punk album. Surprised at how clean this sounds. They had some great songs and some clever ideas. Doesn’t have the iconic edge of some of their peers, but still a very strong debut.
Punk but listenable
Pretty typical early punk. Decent, catchy, but ultimately nothing special. 2.5/5
Punk rock. Was okay but the song writing was pretty boring.
Early punk. Sounded about what I'd expect.
As predicted before I hit the play button, a British punk band. Nothing different about the sound. Not bad, not memorable. Low 3.
3.2
Niet helemaal mijn ding
Surprisingly good. Love the basslines. With heavier guitars it wouldn't sound out of place in 90s punk era. Decent. Vocals not really my cup of tea
Typical punk rock. Good album if you are a fan of the genre. Think Sex Pistols instead of the Ramones
Pretty good for Punk
Overall good, i wouldnt listen to most of them again
The type of punk rock that I prefer. Fast cars was my favorite song. I’d gladly listen to this one again.
AJ: buzzin
Like their energy, but it's nothing special.
Já já, þetta er ágætt.
Part of the first wave British punk scene, the Buzzcocks would influence many bands in the years to come. Good listen, but not necessarily compelling.
I dunno I should like it more than I do, but it is just "okay" punk for me. I guess it's kind of in-between proto-punk and punk proper so it's kind of not the best of either world. There's also this up and coming 80s new wave-ness to it that I'm not super into.
I am pleasantly surprised while listening to this album. I might not have been the most... welcoming person when it comes to listening to these old rock albums, but this sounds surprisingly fresh.
70s british rock big downgrade from 60s British rock kind of a precursor to punk
its ok
The beginnings of one of the bands who invented pop-punk. Short blasts of feelings through poppy melodies though still enough oddity in here to keep the punks happy. Best Tracks: No Reply; I Don't Mind; I Need
Buzzcocks have always come off just like The Ramones to me - probably pretty mind blowing for their time, but we've come so far since that it's hard to listen to now. The album is mercifully short though, which I've always appreciated about punk. I appreciate my predecessors, but I can't stand listening to them.
It's OK
Not bad, definitely more poppy than other punk I've listened to, which is kind of nice. However, I don't really see the appeal in this album. It's kind of just another album, nothing amazing going on here.
Bit up and down
Yeah like sure, okay, you know what you're getting really don't you
It's good but his voice is kinda annoying
Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Here’s the Buzzcocks.
p411. 1978. 3 stars. The inspiration for a thousand English kids to pick up a guitar in the late 70s, so points for that. Set against that are the dreadful nasal whine of Pete Shelley's voice and the lack of standout tunes. Bonus point for I Don't Mind.
I enjoyed this one.
O tempo gasto para conhecer o começo do punk foi bastante proveitoso. OU seja, complementou bem a jornada de aprendizado sobre o punk.
Not really good, not bad either
Seminal Manchester Punk. It has a vibrancy and energy that was common at the time. Let's face it though the musicianship and lyrics aren't the best but tell that to the kids in the front row pogoing around....
Don't know anything really about the Buzzcocks, other than knowing who they are, and knowing that they're in a genre that I don't rarely listen to. It's nice to hear. It's a good listen. But, Punk is not much of a genre that I attract to.
This is music I would've hated if I'd ever had a boyfriend who listened to it, but then would listen to five years after we broke up.
Starts awful but then some palatable punk emerges.
Above average 3/5. Solid! I include the 1996 bonus material - which contain some of the best songs on the album! (Orgasm Addict, Oh Shit) Standouts: I Don't Mind, Orgasm Addict.
29th March 2023 Listened during the day while hungover in the office. Drove mum home and got back late. The whole album buzzes through driven by strumming guitars and pounding drums. 3.5 if I could.
Okay
Not super original or anything. Typical British music of the era, I feel. And not even a particularly great example imo. Good regardless.
This was a spicy little number. I never listened to this band, but absolutely thought it was great. Would listen again!
Not sober. Not drunk. Just a little buzzed.
Good punk album. I like it but didnt love it and nothing stuck out
Here comes another punk album, though I kind of enjoyed this one more than the last one. Maybe because it sort of sounded like rock. Either way, it felt similar to a lot of other bands on here. Props to these guys calling themselves the Buzzcocks, I guarantee it was the fella on the far right's idea, he looks like a stinker. Hell they all do.
Enjoyed it.
Toma punk para la limpieza semanal de la casa.(LNB) El punk siempre viene bien 👅(PSP)
Definitely getting more Buzzcocks!
Not my favorite style of punk but I enjoyed this. Had a lot of heart and skill.
3.7 - Some fun, hard-charging guitar riffs with androgynous vocals. But I’d struggle to identify this in a lineup with other UK/Aussie punk outfits from the 70’s. Highlights: “Fast Cars”, “Love Battery”, “Moving Away From the Pulsebeat”
Fine punk
Every track sounds like an embryonic version of "Ever Fallen in Love With," apart from one where the swear a lot.
3.5
Fun, fast, juvenile, punk. It does miss that extra spark though.
Fun, you can tell its a pre-cursor to good stuff
First time listening to the Buzzcocks and to me, this is punk rock. Most songs under 3-3.5 minutes, loud, fast and in your face. Have to say, fun and upbeat, but a little repetitive at times. At first, I thought the singer was a girl. He wasn't. Favorite songs include Fiction Romance, What do I get? and Oh shit.... Strangest/most uncomfortable song, Orgasm Addict. Perfect song to have a co-worker walk in and ask, WTF? Overall, fun and upbeat. Liked some and some sounded the same, but generally enjoyed. 2.5 for me. Liked because it was new to me, but not sure I would go back and listen again.
3 While I love a good punk album, Buzzcocks have never been my favorite outfit of the genre. They have a few songs I really like, but having now listened to an album of their lesser known stuff, I stand by my initial thoughts on the band. While every song has that early punk energy and attitude we all know and love, there’s nothing particular of note in any individual song, and despite the group riding a musical wave defined by counterculture and protest, it doesn’t feel like much is being said here. I would rather just listen to Singles Going Steady - I feel like I can get the full Buzzcocks experience I need from that album, and I would urge any other skeptics to do the same. Honestly, I think it’s likely we didn’t get that album instead because the listmakers didn’t want to include compilations, which is fair, but in this case it feels like an unfortunate oversight. Favorite songs: I Don’t Mind, Get On Our Own, I Need
Generic 70s punk
71/100: This was like a slightly less abrasive version of the Sex Pistols, which means I liked this better than the Sex Pistols; however, that's a relatively low bar. This was a pretty good album, but it got repetitive and a bit boring by the end. Probably won't listen again.
Not bad, liked the punkyness
I generally like Buzzcocks, but the songs on this album didn't really do it for me. The extended version with the singles on makes it 100% better.
yeah it was okay it didn't make me feel much. sounded alright 6/10
Decent early punk music but probably won’t go back
So, as Simon well knows I've never been very good at doing my musical homework. If I was, I might have listened to these guys sometime after becoming (and remaining) a fan of the early albums from The Offspring & to a lesser extent Green Day. As it is, I'm happy to start catching up now, and intrigued with this album that seems to be poised right on the cusp between the "original/classic punk" sound and the emerging punk-pop that these guys evidently helped to pioneer. Good stuff...but two listens was enough for me. 3.5 stars.
