Boring. Uninspired. I was very whelmed

Listened to in like flynn and I can tell I didn't miss much by forgetting to listen yesterday. Why are so many of these albums boring rock bands full of boring men?

The night was thick with tension as SHICK, a tall and imposing figure with a shadowed past, stood in the midst of the burning forest. The flames danced like malevolent spirits, casting eerie shadows on his face as he faced his bald sidekick, Pocononce. The air crackled with the palpable rivalry that had festered between them, reaching its boiling point. In a moment of dark impulse, fueled by hatred and regret, SHICK's hands tightened around Pocononce's throat until life slipped away. The forest bore witness to the gruesome act, becoming a silent accomplice to the crime. Three years later, SHICK had seemingly moved on, reveling in a life detached from his dark past. However, that night, a relentless knock echoed through the corridors of his newfound peace. As he opened the door, the air grew heavy with disbelief – there stood Pocononce, once thought dead, now deformed and bearing the scars of a twisted journey back. Pocononce, having survived a bad carbonara and ridden a crocodile through treacherous waters, had returned, fueled by a thirst for revenge. His eyes glowed with a malevolent fire as he confronted SHICK, ready to unravel the facade of the new life that had flourished in his absence. The twisted reunion marked the beginning of a sinister chapter, where the sins of the past would demand a reckoning.

I saw this band's name pop up quite often over the years but I never checked them out. I was really underwhelmed. My favorite part of listening to this was when it ended and I started getting songs from the likes of Fugazi, Husker Du, and Hot Snakes. I'd much rather have had a second album from the first 2 (especially since Warehouse is a poor representation) and any Hot Snakes album blows this out of the water.

Trying too hard to be taken seriously. The music is good but the affected vocals just don’t work for me.

This is not an essential album.

Wife said it sounds like wannabe Nirvana. Sounds more like the eels to me. Not as good as either in my opinion.

This was another tough one. I don't get what this album adds to the music scene

“Bullet Proof Cupid” is a good song, as is the starter, but the rest is pretty dull and the singer’s vocal range is limited. The sound reminds me of a toned-down Sisters of Mercy, but 15 years later. I’m surprised, or maybe I’m not surprised, that this LP, which got a luke-warm reception from critics and fans, would make this list.

The vocals ruined this for me. Musically it’s not awful

I tried to get through this album twice yesterday, and I didn’t get more than halfway though. I also willingly listened to a whole Nickelback album yesterday

Rock oscuro. No me ha gustado.

Pretty ordinary

Favorite song was Billy's One Stop. Instrumentals were good, but album was mostly forgettable.

Not really my style. The dual bass vibe is cool, but overall a bit too grungy for me.

Not my genre- better than expected

It was OK. The odd song was enjoyable but otherwise a bit generic.

Morbid trance metal

Indie rock. Rollo. Un 2.

Il faut arrêter d'emmerder les Français.

a deux doigts de mettre 1

This album is a master class in yelling while also whispering.

This sounds like how I would describe a generic post-grunge album to someone who never heard one before. Or: We have Sonic Youth at home.

Really interesting listen. It’s waaay too aggressive for me. It’s definitely hardcore rock. I’m not a fan of the song/speak(scream) vocals and how gritty and distorted they are in the songs. But in most of the song the instrumentals are really great! The gritty guitar riffs, double bass, and energetic drums shine on this album. I would enjoy this album much more if it was either an instrumental or had different vocal stylings.

It’s very 90s. Very grungy. Very much music. Sure.

Nah. On the strength of the year and the title I was pretty up for this, but it was disappointingly straight-forward indie-rock. Hard to fathom how this is one of the 1001 most important records, even though it's not actually bad per se.

Indie rock. Rollo. Un 2.

Rock oscuro. No me ha gustado.

Trying too hard.

A bad bar band that makes you wanna kinda wanna leave.

I’ve heard far worse post-hardcore, but I’ve also heard much, much better. In one ear and out the other.

Like a worse Nirvana.

Didn’t peek my interest very much

I typically like post-hardcore but I wasn't a fan of this one. The music itself is ok, but I had trouble liking the lead singer's voice.

Not my bag, baby. Heard worse though

The music is mostly riff-oriented, and some of the riffs are quite good. But a good riff alone does not make a good song, and the album as a whole is lacking in that department. 2/5

below average 90s grunge

Wow, I'm impressed... at how a band could put out such a warmed over, hackneyed alt/post-hardcore sound in 1993. These guys were really pioneers of sounding tired when their peers were just hitting their stride. They somehow managed to convey all the dullest aspects of their genre, and none of the interesting ones. I've also come to the conclusion that Ned Raggett of AllMusic must be part of the band, because there's no way these guys deserved that write-up. They are the antithesis of charismatic. Fave Songs: Let Me Come Back, Bulletproof Cupid, Billy's One Stop

By the band name, I was expecting some interesting underground Riot grrrl, but I got generic 90s indie rock without much to serve. The first songs are good, but the album per see is dispensable.

Nope, next

Incredibly boring 1 It has a vibe though 2 Is this a new addition? So few reviews

First time hearing this album and I never heard of the band either. The album doesn't have very good ratings from the critics, so I went in thinking it probably wouldn't be too good. My initial impression: I do like their sound and energy. The drums mostly and the lead singer's smoky voice. This seems to be an album that could be completely forgettable, or a classic of the genre. I think it will just take more time to get to know it. Bullet Proof Cupid is probably the most well known song from the album. Is it enough to carry the album? Solid 2.5/5. But, I think it has potential.

Heavier than expected. However the album didn't stick with me. First impression wasn't that great and I might need to revisit it.

This does NOT deserve to be on this list! Like at all!

This is dreadful. If it's girls against boys I know who I want to win. Not this lot.

No idea what this is or what this genre will sound like. Not really something that’s ever come across my radar as a band and not sure what post hardcore will sound like. Not sure how this really makes a list like this when it doesn’t seem significant at all culturally. Musically it’s kinda boring angry 90s alt rock early on to me. It doesn’t seem as interesting as the type of music it seems derived from that I’ve encountered on this list. I’ve given way worse albums 1s and way better albums 2, but this seems somewhere right in the middle. It’s not offensive, but it’s lacks anything remotely interesting. All these songs sound the same too. And not in a good way. I think this will be a 1. The one time it starts to sound different, it’s in a worse way. There must be countless albums that have a sound like this. It’s just a forgettable muddled mess. There’s a point about halfway through where he sings the lyrics I hope you don’t have a good time. Mission accomplished.

Sounds like a bad attempt at Nine Inch Nails. It got worse as the album went on.

Really unenjoyable noise

Not much to say about this one other than I hated it, so I’ll review The Strokes concert I saw Tuesday night. 3/5 stars. Not a die hard by any stretch but each year appreciate them more and more. Only knocks on this show are the sound quality at TD Garden, it’s hourendous and Casablancas has SUCH a nonchalant attitude it’s bordering on indifference. The acoustics are echoey and every songs sounds like noise rock. They can play some really straight forward tunes which helps a lot but the vocals never sounded right. As for his attitude, it’s definitely “rock star” but he’s skinny fat and a total prick. Dropped a couple Boston is racist comments that always bother me. He ain’t perfect either. Let’s talk about you Julian!!! Let’s talk about you! On the positive side the new guitarist kinda stole the show. Sick aesthetic and sounded great. Also, the set and lights/visuals I’ve noticed are across the board way better. No exception here. They have so many hits. Reptilia RIPS. If they come to your town and play a half decent venue (not a basketball arena) I’d strongly recommend.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no. I could not endure the relentless noise. I added “Seven Seas” to my playlist. It is the shortest track.

DNF.. this is not for me

my ears bro

Cool that they’re from DC but this shit sucks

No, thanks

Shouty. Not my thing.

I didn’t like tjus

No lo escuché

Astral beliefs are nonsense.

It’s too bad the last thing he does is realize he’s out of tune. This is among the worst and most forgettable albums so far. It has that 90s angst grunge selectively noisy thing going on that a few other bands did much better things with!

One or two cool licks. I can't understand what homie is saying and for every song the shit gets to be a pain in my ear after two or so minutes. I think if each song were about that length I could squeeze out a 2. Could just be the mood I'm in, but it wasn't my thing at all.

Venus Luxure No. 1 Baby by Girls Against Boys is a really tough listen for me. It’s often labelled as indie rock, but that doesn’t quite fit in my view. It leans much more into something darker, moodier, and more abrasive. While I can appreciate the atmosphere they’re going for, it just doesn’t work There’s very little here that draws you in or makes you want to come back to it. It feels quite repetitive and lacks standout moments, which makes the whole album drift by without leaving much of an impression. Favourite tracks: Bullet Proof Cupid or 7 Seas, if I had to choose Least favourite tracks: Most of the album didn’t land for me Album artwork: Colourful and eye-catching, but not enough to lift the overall experience

could only listen to like half of the first song sorry :(

🎧Did not like this at all

Not for me. It just didn’t stand out as anything interesting. Became just a driving heavy sound with weak vocals

I don't like his voice

Mid 1 Not sure how this snuck on here. Theres a few random 90s rock albums. Curator exposing himself!

Unbearably miserable.

This album should be moved onto a list called "1001 Albums To Avoid Until You Die".

I always had Girls Against Boys filed under 'awful', and listening now, for the first time in over 30 years, has confirmed I was right to do so.

Hate it A lot

It all blends together, and I really don’t like it.

I'm sure this obscurity was a delightful find for someone. Unfortunately, I'm not that someone. I'm the guy giving this No. 2 a No. 1, baby.

This was exactly what I expected, and yet still disappointed

Terrible

Not necessarily for me.

Boooooo. Just silly and boring

Tough listen this one, just cringey American stuff. Doesn't do anything interesting as far as I can tell. Glad when it was over.

Over it after just 4 songs

The instrumentals are good, but I feel like the music is ruined by the hoarse, monotone vocals. It may have its place in history, but I don't really hear what makes this album particularity interesting or essential. It probably didn't even come early enough to be revolutionary, unlike other albums in the list that also might not have been particularly appealing. On top of the singing, I hated the vocal production. I have no interest in listening to this again. 1.5/5

Bad. Horrible. Craptastic. Seriously just pick a descriptor for something that’s awful and you will be spot on for this album …. Ugh

Really don’t understand why this is on this list. Nothing original or memorable about it.

Pretty generic sounding to me.

1. flynn - 0 2. delighted - 1 3. rocketz - 0 4. zatin - 1 5. come - 1.5 6. learned - 1 7. douun -1 8. cupid - 1 9. zeaz - 0 10. ztop - 1 11. bug - 1

its not for me

1 star This may be a bad case of I was not at all in the mood for this on this day. It was just too much energy I was not feeling. Post hardcore is not something I know much about and this did not inspire me. I was hopeful of hearing a 90s act I wasn’t familiar with and I honestly couldn’t get through it. Nothing grabbed me.

Yeah, this was not it chief. Did not enjoy this at all.

cover giga ass musig chanich nöd so beurteile aber vom dureskippe ehrlichgseit au recht ass

Wer hett die scheisse gmixt und gmastered? Ghört gfüüret

Didn’t enjoy this album , formulaic rock with nothing else to say which is going for it

not for me

Never heard of album or band. First song is pretty good, simple but effective guitar. Vocals are kind of bull shit. Same with go be delighted. I just hate the heavy metal auto tune screaming type deal. Again good guitar and pretty catchy background track. Rockets are red is more of the same. It’s not good songwriting but the band is good. Sounds is off on this one too, band is way louder than vocals. Satin down is my favorite so far, closest to a normal good song. Until 2 mins in. Then it’s back to shouting over a pop track. It’s nickleback but screamo. Let me come back is loud for some reason. I do like the guitar tho. Just take out the vocals and all of these songs are better. Guitar once again is SO loud on learned it. So much louder than anything else. With that being said I do like the guitar riff, and the drums are good. Just not enough variety song to song. Also no cohesion between songs. More of a playlist than an album unless I’m missing something. I like get down because you can kind of understand what the singer is saying. More basic guitar and drums. Bullet proof Cupid kind of rocks. Bullshit lyrics (wicked quiet again) but catchy background music. I honestly feel bad for the band members aside form the singer. They deserve better. 7 seas is fine. I’m still waiting for something influential or unique from this album. I just don’t think it’s coming. It’s generic rock with bullshit lyrics. I wish I bailed out sooner. 1.4 stars.

After the first song I thought to myself, if not for the vocals, I might not mind this. But then I listened on, and it just got worse and worse; I couldn’t make it all the way through the record. Somehow I’ll find a way to live on, knowing that I missed out on this album that “l must listen before I die”. One star.

There's something about Hardcore/Post-Hardcore that just doesn't appeal to me. I don't know exactly what it is, but it must be something on a deep aesthetic level. This album completely passed me by, leaving no impression whatsoever. I couldn't even begin to tell you what it sounded like.

It's boring and feels like background irritating noise to me. I tried to find something good in this album, but I can't. Some of the songs are okay, but no, fuck this shit. 1/5 —————————————— No liked songs

I'm not sure what made anyone think this album belonged on this list. It was pretty much 45 minutes of the same bad hard rock song over and over. The vocals are completely washed out and comprehensible. The drum and guitar work are lackluster. The tone of the album feels consistently negative and unpalatable. This didn't even do anything weird or bad enough to make it interesting in any way. I'm not sure what made this so unpleasant as at face value its just an unknown post-hardcore rock album. For some reason nothing about this resonated with me which is almost impressive in its own right. I think I'm voting this one off the island and filing Girls Against Boys away for good. 1.21 stars

"Go Be Delighted" was a decent track. Distortion and two chords over and over doesn't equate to heavy. What is does equate to is pretty damn boring.

Говно

Really puts the noise in noise rock. I could barely tell when vocals started on any given song. And the instrumentals were not interesting enough to justify that. Eventually it became impossible to distinguish any particular sound from another; it devolved into a thick sludge of sound. I did not find anything positive about this.

Not good

Didn't enjoy this at all.

This album is weirdly boring. I remember 'Freakonica' back in the day and the single "Park Avenue". I bought it in a used bin. It sounds like the mid-late 90s - industrial guitars, electronic sound that would make it on a soundtrack only to be forgotten entirely. This isn't better and not worse. GaB is a band that has studio level talent but not enough creativity to truly make it.

Blech those vocals were tough. Couldn't turn down the volume low enough to stop bothering my ears. Not my thing.

The backing tracks are not terrible. There are moments of potential in the droning. But those vocalizations - from the whisper slur to the roar scream - aren't particularly musical and never produced anything interesting for me. Overall, it was so forgettable that I read the synopsis on Qobuz. (Ordinarily I rate albums before reading anything about them or their artists.) It actually says, "His nods to '60s lounge culture -- a thematic fascination that would grow even stronger over time -- crop up at points here, even if the whole atmosphere is more like Sinatra mean drunk and out for blood, lots of it." Which is bizarre; but at least interesting. Far more interesting than anything on the album.

This review is written before I listened: Heavy, moody, headbangy, shite. After listening: yep 1.3 outta 5

per onestà intellettuale premetto che ho sentito poco di questo album perché non mi andava. il punto è proprio questo però: è così monotono che già alla terza canzone mi sembrava di star sentendo la stessa cosa da ore. quindi mi sa che azzardo un 1

I dont mind this genre but this is awful. No idea what it's doing here. Completely disposable. Lacks genuine anger or humour just goes on and on. Slight touches of Lou Reed or Doors done without conviction or subtlety were the only relief from pointless noise.

There was very little (frankly nothing) here worthy of attention. Closest comparator in my mind is Bush - except this was even crunchier and noisier with poorer vocals. I won’t be back.

Not a fan.

For fuck’s sake - what typical 90s “music to make you wanna kill yourself”. No thanks.

Wow I was able to skip and fast forward through this in about 30 seconds and didn't miss a thing.

didn’t make it far into this one

Not offensive but no thanks. 1.5

This is a big “not for me, pal.” Unremarkable production, annoying mixing choices, and incomprehensible vocals - just generally a slew of musical choices I’m not a fan of. It’s not the worst thing I’ve ever listened to but I also could not wait for it to be over, so I must rate accordingly.

Als je "noise rock" ziet staan, weet je al dat het waarschijnlijk experimenteel laweit gaat zijn. En ja, dat was het ook exact. 1.0

It's weird, they have a sound I like, but there's something lacking to keep me interested. It just became background noise. I understand why this band never caught my attention at a time in my life when I was excessively immersed in music. I do recall liking one song from their second album, but that's all.

Nothing special really.

Not for me

Oh Jesus Christ. I can’t even wth this except the review that calls it flailing is right. God this is awful.

Nur geschrammel

Venus Luxure No.1 Baby From sublime and fascinating yesterday with Scott 4, to dreary and uninspiring with this. I’m sure it's someone’s cup of tea somewhere, but it’s really not mine at all. The band are certainly tight, and there are some occasional interesting moments flickering among the staid one note indie post hardcore monotony, the looped string/keyboard on Go Be Delighted is nice and the restrained drumming and bass on on Get Down are good and the little piano riff on Billy’s One Stop is nice, but nothing can really make up for the fact that, ultimately, every single song is boring and the whole thing just feels utterly pointless and very tedious, with out any sense of dynamism or melodic variation to add any light and shade to all the one dimensional flatness. While it may not be truly horrific it is dull, and subsequently irritating, and there is no reason to ever even think about listening to this again. 👶 Playlist submission: Go Be Delighted

Not interested

They need a new singer, ruined

Gosh what a load of noise! Can’t believe that people pay real money to see this live - it would be even worse!

Not my thing

Not for me

DNF’d this (can you say that for an album?). It was just profoundly uninteresting to me.

That was indeed music. But it did indeed piss me off to listen to the whole time.

Eh, not really my jam

It's 46 min 17s I'll never get back. I despised this.

Did not enjoy this at all. Not my kind of music but also it all sounded exactly the same to me.

Oh just fuck right off with this shite.

Really tried with this album but the vocals give me fatigue.

Noisy, edgy, heavy Sounds with atrocious, scratchy and monotone vocals making it Post-Hardcore.

I sound like m grandmother, but this was just noise

Punk/ alternative music. Not great music.

DNF. Couldn’t get into it.

not for me. too hard rock screaming

Fuck that it's cancer to my ears

I did not enjoy this.

What is this noise? Why is this on the list? A couple tracks start off interesting, but devolve into just noise.

Instrumentals are pretty decent, but the vocals just sound so so stupid. I was exhausted of it by track 2.

I dunno - 10 years late on Sonic Youth? Vocals attempt at edgy and miss horribly.

My hometown, Larvik in Norway had about 45000 inhabitants in 1993. Im not exaggerating when I say there must have been at least 25 bands who where better than this whining bunch there, in 1993. This record is neither important, og great in any way, and should never have been included in a list like this.

Grungy and grimy but why??

First listen. Nah

nie słuchałam. Nie lubię tego rodzaju muzyki. Wyzwala złe emocje. Przy muzyce chcę się odprężyć.

Nope. Deserves 0 stars

I've never heard of Girls Against Boys or this album before. I've reviewed a small handful of early nineties alternative and post hardcore albums already, and for the most part, I've thought they were fine. I don't have particularly high hopes for this album, but here's hoping for a pleasant surprise on this Monday morning! Well, a surprise wasn't in store for me today; I didn't care for this album very much. While the crunchy and distorted guitars were well done, their sound got really repetitive over the course of this album, and I really couldn't pin down anything that made this album unique or noteworthy. I didn't particularly care for the vocals, which is a shame, because the lyrics were fairly interesting, although quite dark. "Bullet Proof Cupid" was easily the best song on the album; in my opinion, it was the only song on the album that crafted a unique atmosphere from the dark sound of the album. This album isn't something I'd return to, and it was a pretty tedious and boring listen in my opinion.

Not a fan 🤷

I could appreciate some of the music but nah, not for me. 1

46 minutes is too long.

moody man-child butt rock dreck. with influence/legacy? sure because it sounds like seether, hinder, (chose your own 00's Divorced Dadcore band maybe influenced by this,) trying to sound like Tool.

2/10. Not enjoyable. Few good song intros but overall bad.

If this album matters this list is going to blow up to 100.001 records

It's like, much worse NIN.

Another album I couldn't finish, it began to feel like a headache that wouldn't go away.

Supposed to be Indie. This is just heavy metal noise

Good grief, these are the albums that try men's souls. Wikipedia identifies them as a "post hardcore" group. I don't know what to say other than this band won't be back in my life.

Meh. Boring

Dude, give me a fucking break here. Does every "post-something" album on this list need to be a depressing piece of shit? There are solid albums out there that fit into the genre way more than this. Maybe this was important to someone at some time, but it's very very much not a necessary listen before death's inevitable arrival. Now I'm just sad and bummed. Gonna put on some Carly Rae Jepsen or something.

Did nothing for me.

Sounds like a fault electrical appliance the whole way through. Painful experience and a complete waste of time. Am 200 albums through so far and this is the current winners for lack of musicianship, inept vocal and all round "shitness".

Outro indie que não deixou recordações.

I didn't like this. Claims to have been influenced by Fugazi, so you can imagine my disappointment when i heard this.

Yep, there's nothing of value here. Stopped listening after one and a half songs. 1/10 (0.5/5)

Why is this on here? I couldn't even hear the singer really maybe that was spotify's fault, but none of these songs did anything for me

Another utterly uninteresting miscellaneous rock album from the 90s

An exhausting and pointless listen. The main culprit here is the singing: your typical gravelly, undertrained garage/death-metal timbre. Like nails on a chalkboard. Like unsanded brass against unsanded brass. Like Kurt Cobain with a dead squirrel lodged in his throat. It's bad. Even though the instrumentation is your standard rock lineup, it sounds brazenly amateur, and even the players seems to concede this fact through their repetitive and uncohesive sound. If this were written and released as a kind of satirical statement about how low record labels sometimes stoop in order to get something released, I think I could forgive Girls Against Boys for this release. But unfortunately, I think they're serious. The one-two "punch" (really a halfhearted nudge) of Bullet Proof Cupid / 7 Seas is a welcome breath of fresh air towards the album's conclusion, notably having some catchy guitar/bass riffs to drive a slightly more cohesive sound. But overall, I can't see myself ever listening through the album again to reach that point. We aren't getting to Venus Luxure No. 2, baby. 1/5 Key tracks: Bullet Proof Cupid, In Like Flynn

Halfway through and ouch, I am not a fan. 1/5

Wikipedia says this is post hardcore, but it just sounds like nu metal garbage to me

Didn't give it enough time but didn't enjoy what I heard

This is one of the most unpleasant things I've ever listened to. Barely counts as music in my opinion. I can't believe anyone bought this album other than angsty teenagers rebelling by buying music deliberately chosen to make their parents think "how did I raise this piece of shit?" Would give zero stars if it were possible

prolly not for me. Fugazi felt better.

Gear: Abyss DIANA MR (vegan) Artwork: 📟🧭🤢 Mix: 🧏‍♂️📏💩 Musik: 🦻😵‍💫🚫 Wertung: 🧭/5

woah okay this was pretty bad!

Pre-listening thoughts: oh come ON random generator like u couldn’t have split up the 90s indie rock by more than a few days??? First that awful Sebadoh album now this??? I have a bad feeling I’m going to hate this Post/during listening thoughts: I CANT DO THIS SOMEBODY SEDATE ME GODDD I can’t do this genre for another full album. Please. Release me from this suffering 1/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: NOOOOOOOOOOOO STOP SUGGESTING 90s NOISE ROCK I HATE IT Fav tracks: one of these has to go on my playlist? Oh actually shoot my brains out and curb stomp them Least fav tracks: All of them! Can I please get an album next week where this isn’t the case dear god. 3 of these albums within a week is so cruel

Messy, loud and boring

Not for me

I keep thinking 'when will this be over'. It's worsening my headache and I've been telling my spouse it sounds alot like the wood-chipper outside my house right now. I feel like the other listeners in my group are just trolling me and they don't actually like this. kidding. 1 star - this actively grates on me

This sounds like a headache

p724. 1994. 1 star. Average garage band with average songs. WTF is this doing on the list? On the plus side, it's short.

This list continues to make itself seem less credible each time an album like this appears. Just absolutely sub par quality of a punk alt rock album. There’s nothing on this that is must hear. It’s more like must avoid. 3.6/10

are you mad but don’t know what at? did you quit piano lessons to pick up the guitar, but you also didn’t learn to play that either?

Usually I just don't care for some albums, but this one I hated. Boring and unpleasant and long (seeming) will always lose.

Grunge was mostly a mistake, there were only like two or three bands that could pull it off

This sadly didn’t appeal to me at all

If you didn't have a headache before listening to this album , you definitely will afterwards. It was just multiple noises banded together in a blender. Did not enjoy

Grabs interest then rapidly loses it. Same sound over and over. Pass

When this popped up I wondered how I had missed this first time round. After a listen I knew.

Nothing too standout for me. A little heavy but dull sounding album

90s grunge/indie stuff. Couldn't get into it at all

Couldn’t bear it

Good lord this was awful. I have literally nothing positive to say and I have no idea how anyone could like this. The music was genuinely deafening and the vocals were the cherry on top of sounds from hell.

Boys against music. 2/10 1 star

Didn’t enjoy

Nothing to write home about. Some ok sounding songs but otherwise pretty bland

Made it just short of halfway through before I had to turn it off. It just felt like anti-music to me, it's probably the sound the artist is going for but I'd rather shit in my hands and clap then listen to this sort of music.

Switched it off after a few tracks. Enough said

Band pitch idea: A less talented Alice in Chains This band is like the Terminator. I can only assume this band by a major label from the future to kill indie rock so it never fully takes off and musical tastes do not divert away from the mainstream. Kill indie rock before it grows, but unfortunately this isn't indie rock and is like the lead singer of Collective Soul fronting a post-hardcore band. I wanted to like this because so many others did not like the album and I thought it can't be all that bad. There is just nothing special about this album and I'm attempting to think about how its placement on this list is justified.

This album being on the list has to be a joke. It's fuck boy wanna be metal. I sounds like an incels high-school band, it quality and content.

Screamy Rob Zombie/Radiohead vibe. Nope.

Really not bothered by all this shouting and guitars. Not particularly coherent, funky or witty.

I'm sure hard rock fans like this, but I don't see how this is any more groundbreaking than the other hard rock albums before it.

I was raised a hardcore girl during the peak of the "post-hardcore" scene. I read Alternative Press' back pages, where they highlighted "influential albums in the scene" and I then sought those albums out at Newbury Comics like a fiend. I was a "memorize every band on a label" girl. And sure, I don't listen to this music much anymore, but it is part of my DNA. I know my shit. I loved this shit. And that's why I was confused...why had I never heard of this album? Sure, it's well before my time, but that never stopped me. I know my shit, or at least I thought I did. And the answer is simple – this is not "post-hardcore." This isn't even in the scene. Sure, I get that these are retired Dischord boiz, but this music has more in common with post-grunge than post-hardcore. It's chain-smoked and wrapped in pleather, it's wrap-around sunglasses and buzz cuts and 90s Cool, the soundtrack to Need for Speed. It's not part of the scene, it doesn't know anyone who's edge, there's no box hairdye in its medicine cabinet, and this is not being included in the Tony Hawk soundtrack, because it's too aggro. Is it bad? Not for what it is, no. But I'd argue it's bad for what it *aspires to be*, and that's somehow worse. It also isn't my jam. It's not my scene. I find this strain of rock-in-the-wake-of-grunge to be boring, muddled, and macho without reason, which is why I gravitated towards the post-hardcore scene, because at least those boiz were attempting to process their emotions. And this album is not processing anything, certainly not sonically. It just runs together into a single dull slog. There's moments where I see a glimpse of promise, and also understand how they were mislabeled, and I know sometimes it's "once a punk, always a punk," but this has more in common with Shinedown than Fugazi. My question is why this album? Why not Quicksand, or Jawbreaker, or At the Drive-In, or Refused? Fuck, the 1-to-1 replacement for this is Jawbox's "For Your Own Special Sweetheart" (although I'd say Jawbreaker's "Dear You" is maybe a better representation of the scene etre). Who cares if I don't love this – its inclusion is a purposeful exclusion of actually important punk/hardcore albums from the era, and also a deep misinterpretation of what "post-hardcore" looked like and would look like. It's a blatant misinterpretation of a subgenre, and a bad representation. That makes me even more upset. The fact that it's boring made me want to turn it off, which warrants a low rating anyway, but the fact that it has a seat at the table over anyone actually important to the history of post-hardcore warrants my angry rant.

So bad, only made it through 3 songs and had to turn it off. SKIIIIP.

I gave it a shot. Sounds like he was singing through a tin can and the instruments were played in a garage and recorded on a tape recorder but guess that probably the style of the genre. I’m not sure if I understood one sentence on the whole album so it must not have been that important of a message.

Could maybe get into a couple songs, but can't do the whole album. 1/5

Despite a few sporadic promising bars of innovative music, I quickly got sick & tired of his voice.

Not my style. Never did appreciate the whole hardcore/grunge/sludge thing. Could never participate in the existential anger/angst the music offered. Just was never that disaffected. Made it through 2.5 songs.

7 seas

Post -hardcore. Maybe not "post" enough for me. I won't say there weren't pieces of tracks here and there that caught my attention, but I was never entertained. The sound is mostly industrial drone. And angry.

i don’t care for this and didn’t really listen as so much as have it on in the background just because it’s on the list, some interesting bits but overall i didn’t like it.

My first DNF! Highlights - nothing really. Didn’t like - pretty much everything but especially satin down. Overall - first album that I got that I really didn’t know anything about at all, never heard of the band, but looking at the brief wiki entry I had high hopes - I love a lot of indie & diy, but this falls on the side of post hardcore that I really don’t like which is kind of “unpleasant noises for the sake of unpleasant noises” which I can only ever tolerate in small doses, not a whole album. I can understand why people would like this, but it’s not for me. Didn’t finish the album, I was having a bad time.

Zzzzzzzz all these songs just drone on and oooonnnnn. First album that I truly don't understand why it's on this list. Didn't need to hear this at all. Wish I could give it no stars.

Generic blah. Absolutely uninteresting grungy amateur garage noise.

Just nope

Had low expectations from the album cover. It was still a little too goth like type music but it was alright. All the songs also kinda sounded similar, it was hard to differentiate when a new song was playing. The 1 rating is more so because there's other albums that I would still much prefer to listen to. I still didn't hate it completely though.

More garbage

18/100 Based on this scale: 1 star - 0 to 19 2 stars - 20 to 39 3 stars - 40 to 59 4 stars - 60 to 79 5 stars - 80 to 100 Entirely unremarkable. Also, I tend to cringe at any genre name with the word "post" in it.

Pínulítið feginn að ég sé búinn að hlusta á þessa plötu. Þá þarf ég ekki að hlusta á hana aftur. Þetta þykir mér leiðinlegt rokk.

Not sure what purpose this album serves in the grand scheme. Plenty of better examples of this post hardcore early 90s scene. Would rather never listen to again. 1.5

Meh...

Meh. Nothing special or new. Why?

I couldn't make it through this album. I found it painful to listen to and irredeemable.

A very bad mix of QOTSA, Rage Against The Machine, P.O.D. and Papa Roach. A VERY bad mix.

OK, so here it is, the exact moment I realize that this isn't 1001 albums you need to hear before you die but instead some tasteless basement dweller's wet dream of a project. A chance to finally show the world what they're missing. A chance to dust off those CDs you've been carrying around in milk crates from one shitty failed relationship to another. fuck you. this album is another garbage album that someone bought in junior high back in the day when you spent $12 on a CD and of course you're going to listen to it until you like it, you just wasted $12, how could it not be good? it isn't.

If you want to be both bored and annoyed…

Stupid name for a band, terrible album cover and album name, lyrics are nonsense, music is very boring for this type of music…a few decent driving riffs other than that just very irritating and boring. First album on this list I found absolutely zero value.

Not a fan of post-hardcore. Maybe someday I’ll hear an album that turns me around but today is not that day

Wat een stuk verdriet, deze plaat.
