Reviews (page 7 of 7)

I didn’t like this album much at all. It sort of reminded me of Styx jn that it features a lead singer trying waaaaaay too hard and ultimately sounding to my ears like nothing more than a cornball showtune artist. But in this case mix in lyrics about gang rape and gonorrhea.

Didn't like anything about this one

classic rock, bluesy de hit van het album is een kakanummer niet goed, nooit meer luisteren

Didn't listen.

No. 1.

This shit is lame.

Is this a joke? Please tell me this is a fucking joke.

mmmmmmmmmm

Didn’t get into it.

The only sensation this inspired in me was disgust. What a waste of time.

So so bad. “Ain’t nothing but the gang bang”. Wow. So smart and inspirational. If I’ll write a song some day, will definitely use it.

The last song does some neat tricks with headphones, so listen to that one with headphones. It has good instrumentals. However, literally any person good have written better lyrics. There is no reason anyone should listen to this, let alone should be on this list.

If you have to say you are sensational, you probably aren’t. And this band is definitively not. They sound like a joke. Absolutely horrid.

Insultingly dumb and stupid

Tenacious D but not funny. This shit fucking sucks. One of the prime examples of why I didn’t listen to classic rock for years.

I'm on a 10 album run of nothing below a 3, multiple 5s... (I try not to hand out too many 5s or 1s) and was just starting to wonder if I'm being too generous lately when this album came along to assuage my concerns. Musically, Next is nothing special. It's fine, perfectly listenable... which would normally earn it a 3 from me - 3 star albums for me are good but nothing more. Nothing I dislike, but not deserving of any higher. Lyrically, this album is a travesty. How one man wrote an entire album of mediocre songs about his penis and what he does with it (with the exception of one track where he instead wrote about what he and his 27 friends do with their penises) that is considered by *anyone* to qualify as "must hear before you die" is beyond me. Nobody needs to hear this. I probably would've died happier having not heard it. Like I said, I try not to give out too many 5s or 1s, and I tried as hard as I could to not judge this too harshly on the lyrics alone, but at the end of the day, the music doesn't do enough to redeem it.

Painful, stuck it out but begging for the end from the second track "Gang Bang" (as awful as it sounds). HTF is this included. It's not even generally regarded as one of their best albums, not that I'm going to be sampling the others on this showing. The worst album on 1001 that I've listened to so far (Ye didn't get heard due to a built in self professed Nazi filter).

I turned this off as soon as the vocals started

I've never heard of them and it's surprising because based on just the Wikipedia article alone some people I listen to say they were influential. Well... I don't see what's so "sensational" about the band. The guy's vocals actively pissed me off 1/5

If somebody wrote an album by querying ChatGPT with "make a glam/punk rock album but make it incredibly, unnecessarily about my personal sex stories that my friends are tired of hearing about." Take this off the list.

Funky vibe but just overall……very odd. A few of the songs had instruments that sounded similar to a boat horn. Faith Healer - Sounded like they saw a sound machine near a dumpster and decided to give it a roll in the studio. Giddy Up a Ding Dong sounded almost like Jailhouse Rock by Elvis. Seriously what in the hell is this? Next - This is giving broadway musical song where the rat looking man has his solo revenge song. Anyone know what a Vambo is?

No me dijo nada 🥲

Which sensation? Disgust? Indifference? Bloat? Is 'meh' a sensation?

Did not like this. Had guitars, horns, keys - all of the things I like, but it just did not work.

All of the songs kind of blended together and wasn’t melodic or anything drastic in the songs that kept me interested for more than a few songs at a time.

No thank you

There’s about 3 great songs on here and the rest is chauvinistic 70s rock sleaze. I initially dug the sounds, but upon further listen, am not as impressed. Lyrically, it’s all over the place. Musically, mostly it’s right up my alley, but then there’s this thing about it that takes me out. When it opened I thought it was going to be an early 70s version of Low Cut Connie. And I am pretty disappointed in the direction it went!

Bad. Like joe cocker on an angry binge.

Bad. Just bad

Sensational? I’ll be the judge of that. That’s why I’m here isn’t it? I like to imagine that the sole purpose of this endeavour was to get the lazy musings of a poorly educated Canadian with little to no musical knowledge. That was the lofty pipe dream of our dear author when he first set out on what was and remains a monumental triumph of a starter guide. A labour of love dashed upon the jagged rocks of a small text box. With universally appreciated art spilling into the murky brine of “this was kinda mid,” we sift through the wreckage and pull another of the 1001 remnants of the capsized craft. What horrors will die in my arms this fateful morn? Swampsnake - A song title that can only be described as “rad as hell” begins our first foray into what sounds to be uhh Religious? The singer is a little unhinged. That is surprising. I don’t care about it, but it’s surprising. Gang Bang - if this is that gangster music that the kids are listening to, I am fully on board with banishing it to the nether realm. This is the late night act on a cruise ship for adults. If that doesn’t make your skin crawl, we have nothing to discuss. Horrific. Longest 15 minutes of my life. It was 4 minutes? Wonderful. The Faith Healer - Who gave this moron a studio? This song is an extended intro for the band that is the central crux in a wet dream in the head of a delusional man in the midst of a mid-life crisis. I need a medical healer. Let’s leave deities out of this. I feel ill. Maybe I need to restore a Chevy Bel-Air and make a female administrative worker uncomfortable. The American dream. Giddy Up a Ding dong - Fuck you for making me write that. This is not “fun.” This just sucks. Like being at a wedding where everybody is drunk except you. Just a bunch of sunburnt lushes writhing around in the sun to this garbage while you dream of a prolonged hermitage deep under the earth. Dead or alive. Next - Hey! That’s what I’ve been saying. NEXT. I hate that is the best song by far. It at least has a sense of irony and humour. Although based on the previous tracks, maybe this is sincerity I’m mistaking for taste. Incredibly, this reminds me of black midi. I’m holding my nose for this next part. I like this song. Ugh. Vambo Marble Eye - We’re back in stink town. Alex and the boys have a permanent residency atop the stinkiest landfill in stink town. Get ready to hear “Gang Bang” on repeat. If you’re lucky, they’ll do the whispered gang vocals of Vambo Marble Eye to the visual of fat boomers snapping their unwirked fingers to the beat. The Last of the Teenage Idols - See when I ask people to call me “The Sheik of Tomorrow” they get really upset. I for one, will not call this idiot anything of the sort, but I will call him a terrible musician. Well. Terrible is relative and in the eye of the beholder, but as the current beholder, I will use that authority to say I hate this. This was a violent plummeting through labyrinthine terrors hitherto unseen. Maybe sight is not the sense I most associate this record with. Let’s go with smell. Boy howdy did this album stink. What was this? A horrible band playing sleazy songs for the sleaziest demographic. This is music for the kind of people that think “no” means “keep trying” and I ain’t talking about trying to land employment. Sure, I’ve had a laugh at my own expense here in saying that I am a musical moron, but I certainly know what I like and don’t like. This is entrenched solidly in the “don’t like” camp. Abandon ship, and while you’re at it, abandon all hope for 70s boogaloo sweat rock. If you had any of that hope to begin with, you sadden me. Call your children. They hate your new wife. 0.5 HIGHLIGHTS: Next. No really! It was good.

This wasn't AS bad as the reviews suggest, but it's certainly not good. If it weren't for the vocalist and lyrics, it could probably be a 2.5-3 star album. I'm just glad it was short.

Bit rapey. Funny that we consider the 90s rappers as mysoginsts when this is a bit of fun. Awful man awful lyrics awful music.

If the other tracks were anything like "Faith Healer," I would agree that this might be an album worth listening to before you die, but they are definitely not. Dreadful.

I hate his voice. I hate these lyrics. I hate the music. These songs do nothing for me. At best they're boring. At worst they're unsuccessfully trying to be edgy.

In which a woman is objectified, debased, and abused, and “smiles through the tears.” Take this album off the list.

How did this guy get an album released? This just feels trashy.

Dont touch me

Very sub optimal 1970 ‘s rock nothing sparks nothing new, not sure why it merits inclusion. Not glam, not pub rock, cardboard music.

Just nothing

1 stern

Was pleasantly drifting along, half-listening to the mediocre rock music, when he started talking about gonorrhea. If you're going to to be edgy and confrontational, at least have the courage to commit to it, instead of couching it in adolescent humor.

This was very icky. Musically I didn't mind it - I even kind of liked Next and The Last of the Teenage Idols. But lyrically? Woof. Idk man, I think dudes in the 70s were straight-up predators.

Can’t tell you how much I hated this. My god I wish I could give it 0

if i wanted to listen to a really unpleasant and annoying man go on and on about a gangbang I'd just redownload grindr

What in the world did I just listen to? Part Meatloaf, part Twisted Sister. Throw in some Ted Nugent and a little KISS. Maybe a splash of Alice Cooper and even a bit Weird Al. Regardless, I was not a fan.

Singularly the worst album I have ever listened to.

Not for me!

RIP Alex Harvey you would have loved Diddy's freak-offs

Musically it isn't so bad, but maybe a bit generic at times. Has a Mississippi rock sound with a mix of Chicago. The lyrical content is funny but gets old quick. I think I enjoyed the track the Faith Healer the most, but mostly the intro was hypnotic, the second half of the song was just ok. Overall, this album is not good. Not sure why it was part of this collection.

This is sensationally bad, but I do see how its crude sensibilities could delight Nick Cave (and other iconic artists as different as AC/DC and The Cure). If you’d like to hear a better version of ‘Next’, please listen to Scott Walker’s dramatic take on that same song!

Sometimes the joke just doesn't land.

i really did not like this. very theatrical in a musical theater kind of way. not my thing.

Unforgettable. But not in a good way

Yeah....not good. I'm not sure why it's on lusts as the reviews don't really say either

So cringingly bad. A very uncomfortable listen with the icky sexual references.

Ouch this just doesn’t age well. May have enjoyed some of music but lyrics make for a very tough listen.

Not my thing.

This doesn't belong here.

I hated this. I failed to make it to the end of a single song. Is it here as some kind of joke? Hands down the worst album so far.

"Aint nothing like a gang bang"

Next is like a shitty version of shitty albums by shitty bands like: AC/DC, Kiss, Meatloaf, Aerosmith, etc. When I was in second grade, a kid brought in a record that his dad's band had recorded. Everyone in the class got a copy of the 12 inch album to take home. I ran home to listen to the tunes and I remember it sounded kind of like this. The cover of Next was fun by I recall liking the Scott Walker version more. Giddy Up A Ding Dong!

I loathed this album. The writing was shit, the band was shit, the singing was shit. It was like the singer decided to sing every song in the worst possible way.

Like a mix of southern rock and Gwar, with sound quality that just doesn't land for me. I find very little redeeming in this.

that was absolutely disgusting. very uninspired and repetitive and annoying . I'm very much surprised that it made it onto this list.

Not for me 1/5

Another godawful irritating one

My poor ears

Well, that sucked.

Listened Before? N Hopefully I'll never listen to this again. Wailing, noisy, overtly sexual trash. I'd say it's a product of it's time but it does a terrible job capturing the 70s too. Whatever. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Gang Bang (because fuck it at this point)

ugh pretty bad

Сенсэйшнл(ли) не моё. Лучшая песня - Next.

not great, todd. how many impossibly horny men writing 70s blues rock albums do we honestly need on this list? at least the commenter saying this sounds like rocky horror b-sides was spot on. favorites: the faith healer? i guess? tbh this all sucks

Flipping between the completely forgettable and downright offense to the ears. There's really not a lot to like from this record - no particularly new or interesting instrumentation, no engaging lyrics, no songwriting to note. Maybe it's very of it's time, but this making a top 1001 albums seems like an April fools joke. Best Tracks: N/A Worst Tracks: - The Faith Healer - Giddy Up a Ding Dong Rating: 1/10

The best thing about this album, is knowing I'll never have to listen to it again.

a very long 35 minutes

Bruh like huh?? The vocals are fartin garbidge. Can't do it. Not goo. This might be worse than prince.

I just didn't care for his voice or the topic of the songs.

This album sucks. Like, suuuuuuuucks.

Glamrock kan altijd zo lekker omslaan in cringey meuk. NEXT

Leuk dat Nick Cave dit als inspiratie zag voor the Birthday Party. Ik vind er bijzonder weinig aan te beleven. Schiet echt alle kanten op. 4/10

Very disjointed for me.

Dramatic delivery

Hm so I really hate this. The lead vocal’s singing is essentially just screaming constantly which is quite annoying. The music itself is fine, good even, but the vocals and lyrics are so poor that it ruins the album. Fave Song: … Least Fave Song: Gang Bang Rating: 1/5

Best part of this album was the sound effects (like on the first portion of The Faith Healer). Everything else made me an active hater. Gang Bang had me inches away from Banging my head onto the table. Faith Healer made me wish my ears were un-healed. Most songs on this album should've stayed instrumentals; that would be something. But alas, I wanted to hit Next for nearly 36 minutes straight. What a chore. Least Fav: Swampsnake, Gang Bang, The Faith Healer, Giddy Up a Ding Dong, Next, Vambo Marble Eye, The Last Of The Teenage Idols Fav: N/A

Horrible sexist shite.

Ok, this album was put out the same year as Queen’s first album. I don’t know whose ideas got stolen, but Queen did it better. Nothing here caught my ear and made me really take notice. At least it’s a typical 70s album and it was only 35 minutes of time lost.

Generally I'm quite keen on things which claim to be "early punk" or groundbreaking, and I like almost all the music that comes out of Glasgow, but this didn't do it for me at all. I'll admit I didn't make it the whole way through, but once I'd struggled through seven and a bit minutes of the third track I was done. I also found his voice particularly annoying- shades of Rod Stewart.

Thanks, I hated it.

Not much to like about this album if i'm honest. The opening track "Swampsnake" is fast-paced and kinda catchy. Same can be said about the second track "Gang Bang", even if the subject theme is completely out of pocket. The beginning of track 3 is the point in the album where the musical composition slows right down and becomes quite boring and bland. "The Faith Healer" is an interesting song. I wouldn't say it's terrible, but it did feel bland and drawn out whilst also being pretty forgettable too. The rest of the album just sounds like Alex Harvey has descended into madness, as he screams his unhinged, schizophrenic thoughts into the microphone. This certainly isn't an album i'll be listening to again anytime soon. Probably ever.

This is the glam rock Dr John tribute act you never knew you needed, because you didn't. Somebody nuke the swamps of the Glasgow Cajun Quarter before this abomination breaches containment.

I hate this man. No idea when to end a song and thinks he’s funny when he is painfully unfunny and cringey. I was so excited that this one was only 35 mins but I felt every second. NEXT!

This would’ve been a great instrumental album but this guy just had to open his mouth

Brought to mind the review of Intravenus Di Milo from Spinal Tap: “The musical growth rate of this band cannot even be charted. They are treading water in a sea of retarded sexuality and bad poetry."

Fantastic album from start to finish.

It's just not for me.

Passou batido, nem lembrava que coloquei para tocar.

As my mom would say “this music has no redeeming values ” Or my friend Ray, “this some butt rock” Or my friend Chrisbee “Yecccchhhh 🤢” Straight trash.

Bonkers, some songs sound like musicals

I'll gladly stick two used tampons from two Vegas hookers in my ears and hope the subsequent infection renders me deaf, if it means I can avoid listening to anymore of this talentless 'sensation'.

So much cringe on this list!!!

No me gusta

Occasional good song, but had to skip some of these

I definitely could've died without hearing this.

One song in particular made me feel uncomfortable.. You can probably guess which one. I don't think this album is for me. Musicianship was cool, but nothing special in my opinion. There's nothing really that memorable about this album. Honestly sounds like something you'd hear at a diner on the jukebox. Next was a cool song. Very different then the rest of the tracks on this album. Sounds like it could be part of a musical. I don't think this album is something I'll think about ever again. To be honest, I'm glad it was short. Really just, not enjoyable for me. 1/5

Very, very strange

This was awful. Sensational my ass.

Well that was a terrible album, some of these I really question if they stay true to the topic of 1001 albums you ‘need’ to see before you die.

Pretty bad

"Next" is super weird, and "Gang bang" is just them singing those words over and over again - I did not enjoy this album.

Disliked just about everything about this.

This fucking sucks. Yeah, I said it. Not that anyone cares since I don't think anyone even gives a shit about this album in the first place. Why is this even on the list? Well apparently, this guy was a big inspiration on Nick Cave, a musician that Robert Dimery seems to have a gigantic boner for since he has 6 ALBUMS on the list. If any of those 6 albums is anything like this, I might just quit the project entirely. I don't know if I can handle 6 more albums like this. I'll start with the one decent thing about this album. The instrumental sound is not bad. I don't particularly care for it, but I can respect it for what it is. However, everything else about this album is so bad that that barely even matters at all. The singing? Atrocious. Absolutely horrendous. It's Pere Ubu levels of bad. And I literally said that the vocals in Dub Housing were the worst I had ever heard! And somehow the writing is even worse! It's awful! "Gang Bang" has some of the worst writing I've ever heard in a song before. But all of this begs the question... the ultimate question to determine if this is among the worst of the worst. Am I upset that I listened to this album? Well, despite the admittedly okay instrumental aspects of this album, my answer to that question would have to be a resounding YES. 1/5. The only sensation that Alex Harvey makes me feel is pain.

No thank you. Go away and never come back. You are not welcome here.

Какая-то хренатень

Weirdest album ever. Will not listen again. Did not enjoy.

This was abysmally bad.

I found this pretty repugnant. Lowest common denominator, puerile and lacking in any kind of heart. Gang bang sounds like it was written by a 14 year old boy in the first flush of teenage hormones and is the shallowest point of this very shallow puddle

Never heard of this band before. And i wish that remained the same to this day. The opening song started off promising but once it got into gang bang it went down hill from there. By "Next" it felt like i was listening to some kind of play. Whoever put this on the list should be bitch slapped.

very bad, it's like children's music except the lyrics are about fucking. embarrassing to listen to.

Deeply horny lyrics paired with the two least horny sounds: trombones and handclaps.

Made it to the gangbang, then I thought the party was not to my liking so I left.

Listening to some of the albums from the 70s has really changed my mind of the decade generally. But this one has set it back considerably. I hate glam rock. There’s very little redeeming here.

Um... I'm confused... This album is an overblown mix of CCR, GNR, and Elton John/Queen with rockabilly... I don't like it—utterly stupid record imo.

So not for me.

Gangbang. Jesus.

Trash, garbage even. Really no fucking idea what this was going for or why it's on this list, it blows

Thanks for gangbanging my ears

There's moments that almost save from a 1, but pls I don't wanna hear this dude anymore. Will I listen to 0%

Is this satire?

1.2 - Christ. Well ‘next’ was at least a bit more interesting.

The answer to the question "where the hell did they dig this album out of" is in the question.

Did Robert Smith really consider this a forerunner of punk? It’s part cabaret, part glam, part bland. Almost the fav genre psychedelic!!! Long forgotten

Mmm no

Were the lyrics written by a middle school boy?

Nothing on this album got me moving. I guess it's because this sounded like Billy Squire. I'm not a fan of most glam, and this solidifies it.

This added nothing to my life. I don’t like his voice. I almost liked the hrothel song.

Ok now you're just trolling us.

You know your band sucks when you write songs like "Ain't nothing like a Gang Bang" and repeat it for 5 minutes.

It's garbage day today. This is also the day I came across this album in the challenge. Coincidence? I don't think so. The lyrics are awful, of course... but I was expecting a powerful musicianship from a band like that. I've been disappointed.

Not for me.

what kind of fucking child nominated an album with a song called "Gang Bang" for this list? trash.

Uncomfortable and ick

Tää vitsi ei toimi vaan on vain kiusallinen. Olisi edes kunnon parodiaa eikä vain jotain sinnepäin. Ärsyttävä

Admittedly musically talented but I could not jive with the subjects of most of the songs

Proto AC/DC, Glam Rock nuff said

Ugh. Music was kinda cool but then the singing started. Woof.

I wouldn't want to be left alone with this guy.

This album did absolutely nothing for me.

WTF cacophonous bullshit did I just listen to 1/5

Really bad.

For a list of the most important albums in history I'm surprised this was added. Some days I'm shocked at what the generator pulls out of its ass. It is some early punk rock vibes but each song is going for a different theme or feel. Makes the album jaring to listen too.

Jesus christ, the second track is insane.

I can't understand why this album is on the list.

In a nutshell: proto-hair metal(?) Occasionally good horns, drums and guitar; played furiously. Kinda bluesy glam rock. This is album reminds me of "hair metal" and I wouldn't be surprised if bands from that genre cite this as an influential album. Overall: 2/10

Estos, ni me molesto.

1. zuuampznake - 1 2. gang bank - 1 3. the faith healer - 1 4. giddy up a ding dong - 1 5. nezt - 1 6. vambo marble eye - 1 7. the lazt of the teenage idolz - 1

At the start I thought that they sounded like they were having a lovely old time, but pretty soon I realised that I wasn’t. By the time I got to ‘Giddy Up a Ding Dong’ and ‘Next’ I’d had enough. Too theatrical.

i wish some poeple would just have sex instead of writing ass music about having sex

Not a fan of this one...

I got part of the way through Gang Bang and started skipping ahead. Grooves were ok, but it wasn't worth it. Was this on the list because of its shock value?

Sensationally shit

Not for me
