pretty annoying. theres this one episode of how I met your mother where they r in some club and nobody can hear anyone bc the music is loud and Marshall does drugs in the bathroom on accident for his toothache and this reminds me of that. I dont like this.

4/10 - idk it was electronica but not the way I liked for some reason.

Another British electronica album that is way too long and doesn’t really do anything unique or interesting

Again, not my jam

3 electronic albums in a row, they do keep getting better, but none of them are spectacular. Modern electronic music just really outshines it by my standard. Just another meh.

Not for me.

I don't mind born slippy, think it definitely has something that no other dance track has, I think it's the huge change between the ambient bits and the drumming bits. This album didn't really get anywhere close and had all the tropes of 90s dance that get on my nerves. Repetitive without any progression, just play the same bits over and over without changing or building to anything. A dedication to keeping things middle of the road that feels intentional. Wasn't completely unlistenable but at no point was it any good. 1.5.

Boring

I need to meditate more on why I have a hard time with electronic music like this. one thought is, if you look at what timescales the melody/harmony repeats, most of the variance in the song is explained by these loud, repetitive, short cycles, and very little changes between cycles. Im also sometimes willing to give bands like this a pass if their sound design is unusual or interesting. I found most of the synths here grating.

I have some 90s electronic / techno albums on vinyl and they tend to either be very repetitive or have tracks with large chunks of uninspiring drum loops, so I went in to this album, saw how long some of the tracks were and had similar expectations. Don't get me wrong there was still a lot of repetition (Rowla, Air Towel for example) but that is the genre, and the tracks on this album just had a lot more going on and were more complex, with some interesting vocals and layers(?) that kept me just about interested throughout. Pretty enjoyable and listen-to-able as background music as I work. Hard album for me to decide a rating for, sort of like watching an athlete in a sport you don't care about, you can still admire the talent - I think this album is an excellent example of the 90s techno/electro genre but I don't often find myself in the mood for it. If I was to rate this album in the genre that it's in(?) I'd probably give it 4 or 5 stars, Fav song: Pearl's Girl

Not so bad as far as electronic music goes, but still has the over repetitiveness that is endemic in electronic music. Not for me.

I thought I didn’t recognise Underworld, and didn’t recognise anything on this album, but then Rach told me that Born Slippy was by them. So yeah, I do know that one. This album isn’t really what I what usually seek out, as I don’t really tend to gravitate towards techno (with a few exceptions). I didn’t mind this album, but I personally found the highlight to be the slower and less intense final track. The rest all mushed together a little too much. Writing this a few hours after listening, it’s only Stagger that’s stayed with me.

DNF techno

I like a lot of electronic music. Not this though, it's too glitchy and not melodic enough. Fine if you are drugged out of your mind in a club, but I'm not.

The very first track set the tone for how much I was going to be uninterested in this album. Then either track 2 or 3 showed possible potential… I wish I could remember which, but the album, and songs themselves, were so long I couldn’t tell where most tracks began or ended. But halfway through I had already given up. Nothing came of the album, it was only at the end of track 4 and I think I was already 30 minutes into the album. Just dull mindless noise at that point.

Some chill trance vibes, but mostly felt like Ross playing his keyboard on Friends.

I thought it would be worse, but it’s just not my thing.

No me va

ambient music to work by.

I love how unpredictable techno is. Like, is it going to go “uncha uncha uncha uncha” or “uncha uncha uncha unch”?! The possibilities are . . . those two.

The great thing about this list is the endless 90s Electronic music that you've never heard and can go on living without hearing again. 2.5/5

Why is this album so long?!? I started it on Sunday afternoon. Now it's Monday and it's still playing. Have I even finished a single track? Is there any rhyme or reason to anything? I don't even know where I am anymore. Is that a dwarf standing in the corner? Am I trapped in the album? Is this Hell? But also it's got a beat I can dance to. Two stars.

It’s music that belongs in clubs or in the background.

Like just about all electronica from decades prior, this has aged poorly. In fact, thanks to this 1001 album thing, I've found that the worst aging music has always been electronica; almost seems fad-like. 4/10.

Rock, Dance, Trance, 1996 -> 2

15 min track… i guess that was the one you put on when you desperately needed to take a dump during a DJ set. i guess it's just a pre mix. maybe they should just have made the whole album 1 mixed track instead. I like Electronic dance music but the problem is that it is dance music. This is made for a club not for a listen at home. Very few albums are good to put on at home (some Daft punk and Apex twin albums probably work)

Obviously pioneers in their field but too much techno all at once for me

Not for me, at all

An inoffensive techno beat tape, and not much more than that

Nah. It's fine generic electronic mumbo jumbo. Seriously why is there so god damn much of this on this list? It's so long and so boringggg 2.5/5

Very techno, good for running. Also the second song sounded like travis scott so i liked that

More warehouse bumps and jumps

I don’t think I was on enough drugs to truly appreciate this

Electronic dancey techno music that failed to have much impact on me. Some moments pulling from more atmospheric/ambient sounds. I didn’t dislike it, but I barely remember specifics enough to describe it. Feels like something I would need more than a day with (or the proper setting), but I’ll most likely just forget about it.

This is what you hear blasting out of the spin class at your local globo gym as you walk to the water fountain.

Not a great album...

I'm pretty picky about the electronic music I like. Back to back 15+ minute songs were not the way to win me over. Works okay as background music, but it's pretty generic techno music.

Didn't care for this one. I listened to this for another list. 2/5

Weird electronic and mostly no words. Not for me.

2.5 fine electronica still to long

It was okay

It's largely not to my liking, but there are a few elements that really catch my ear. Track 2 in particular - "Banstyle / Sappys Curry" - is pretty interesting. But my god, is it long and repetitive. It may even be closer to 1 star than 2, but I can't in good conscience give this the same score on this website as Limp Bizkit. 1.5/5

It isn't anything wild, just some trance

Albums from this month I own on CD/vinyl: The Wall, Thriller, Sgt. Peppers, GREY Area, & whatever this is (I found it in a Cdn thrift store for two bucks :0) It sure is a lot of techno all at once. Wikipedia needs to cite their sources when it comes to "anthemic melodies", as this is by no means a melodic album. "Blueski" sounds like it's about to become the electro/acoustic bop of the summer, and then it just... ends. There are quite a few overlong albums I adore (Speakerboxx/The Love Below, Tusk, hell even Logical Progression if we’re talking electronica). Second Toughest is shorter than all 3 but I *felt* the length. I didn't love it, but it's certainly worth working out to. (Of course, that would require one to work out.) 2.5 HL: "Juanita : Kiteless : To Dream of Love", "Banstyle/Sappy's Curry", "Stagger", "Born Slippy" (bonus) August 30, 2024

I understand, that British electronic music has to be somewhat darker. I have to be in a real mood to listen to it. The mood happens rarely. In any other day (like today) it feels like I'm traumatizing myself with noise. I can't sing it, can't dance to this, can't have much positive thoughts about the whole performance. I know that's the point of their music, but it does not speak to me. It's not what music should be.

The first song sounded like a soundtrack to a movie of people dancing high on drugs. Overall I liked most of the songs. The vocals didn't add much. One song got to be annoying

OK let's get 1 thing straight right off the bat; this is Electronica, some of which could be called House; This is NOT Prog. While their maybe be bands you could argue do both, the terms are NOT interchangeable. As an album to listen to, I found it mildly interesting at times. I can even see it in the list as an example of such "music." Originally, I was going to say it was like a tour of a science museum but I really like science museums too much to make that analogy. It could be soundtrack music to the next Matrix movie. It was actually quite good for working (physically working) to. It was very bad for listening to while sitting in traffic.

I'm not really sure how to approach this. It wasn't bad, but it was long. Each song was an experience. Let's examine each experience. The first track had me starting off certain the fire sprinklers were going to start raining blood and I best get moving with some garlic and wooden stakes, but by the end, a chipmunk was reading me a paint-by-number picture, and I was no longer afraid of vampires. Track 2 was one of the more enjoyable songs I've heard while on hold for 15+ minutes on the phone. Track 3, I think I was given a drug that made me hyper-focused though unable to move as fast as my brain currently runs. She promised a lot here, whoever she is. Track 4, the vampires are back. Track 5. I think I just woke up floating in a salt water sensory deprivation tank. Then maybe I went to Morocco. I'm really not sure. If this were a movie soundtrack, I'd definitely watch the movie. But I wouldnt buy the soundtrack. Track 6. This is called "Air Towel" and feels like the background music for a video attempting to sell me a newly designed hand dryer. Just tell me the price already. Track 7. This is actually a really cool eastern sounding thing, and it isnt 8 years long. It sort of never builds to anything, but it's good. I wish more of these songs just sort of faded away sooner. Track 8. The album was already long enough. Should have lopped this one off. It kind of progressed and closes out nicely, which was a welcome change. Maybe that's why it was there.

Although "Pearl's Girl" was a minor club hit, this album does not contain the only Underworld song that really matters. No "Born Slippy", no extra stars.

Lidt halvkedelig 90 techno

Inoffensive but overly long and boring. Would have given it 3 stars but two hours of this is unbearable.

Lemppari: Juanita: Kiteless: To Dream Of Love, mutta vaan vikat 3min Vähiten lemppari: Rowla

Songs were way too long and just basic ass techno. 1.5/5

Club dance music, no thanks.

Too long Ok

Very long chill music

Not a fan of this type of music. 2/5

Look my complaints about this are kinda unfair, because of course it's robotic and repetitive and kinda lifeless to me, it's techno. But I didn't like it really and it's fucking long. Parts get the brain tickle I guess.

Was expecting to hate this but didn't. However in the end it was just too repetitive to be enjoyable.

I was able to tolerate this as background music while I worked, but this would have been a real struggle after the first few songs if I didn't have something else to concentrate on. It's fine. Reminded me a lot of the Daft Punk album on the list where much of it sounded like it should be the soundtrack to the Mass Effect video game. I didn't dislike it, and I've gotten to the point with techno where I can understand why people who are into the genre would like this album, but I'll never revisit this. 2.4

For the correct audience this is surely a banger. I am not that audience.

A little rave-ish

Did not like this

I legitimately don't remember anything from this album and I just listened to it. Very forgettable background noise, and that's coming from somebody who enjoys this kind of music.

Það kemur mér á óvart að ég einhvern veginn bæði elska svona tónlist og hata hana. Sum lögin koma mér í algjört stuð á meðan önnur eru algjör kvöl og pína að hlusta á. Þannig að ég rokka alveg á milli en mun aldrei setja þetta aftur á þótt inn á milli séu lög sem mér fannst mjög skemmtileg.

Some interesting ideas here, but overall just didn't do anything for me

Middling techno but fine for background music.

Just keeps on going and never ends, far too long and repetitive for my liking.

Meh. Some ok stuff here but don’t need to listen to before I die.

I might really enjoy this if I had a good buzz and was surrounded by a ton of people dancing our asses off. But just to listen to it is grating after a while. 2

Not my type of music.

do people actually enjoy this stuff with no acid? bleep boop bleep. 28/100

Eh... I didn't hate it, but the length definitely hurts this album. There are some fun ideas here and there, but they all get dragged out so long that I lost interest. This would make fine background music if you like this type of music. high 2.

The same garbage, generic, 10 minute song 7 times in a row.

Did not give a shit about this at all. Made me weirdly nervy. Passed me by and was just willing it to be done

I just didn't get it.

Vibey, idk what to say?

Rough listen. Didn't like this. 2 stars

Not very impressive and forgettable

May be good for who it’s for. But it’s not for me. Just not my vibe.

Favorite Track: Stagger

im going to forger all of this immediatley 2/5

C- Juanita : Kiteless : To Dream Of Love 2 Banstyle/Sappys Curry 2 Confusion The Waitress 2 Rowla 2 Pearls Girl 2 Air Towel 2 Blueski 2 Stagger 2 Quite rubbish.

Get the Fuck up out my House. i’m so tired of trying to get through this.

Not for me, but would make for some good background music!

absolutely no idea what to expect from this from the title and cover, ive never heard of this band or album lol my first guess was metal and not electronic stuff haha background music that tickles my brain stopped tickling my brain after like 5 minutes and tbh i got bored and stopped listening like less than halfway through, i dont think today was the mood for this kinda album

The first 15 min might be heard at a rave. Good for its intended purpose. The rest was not bad chill music. I liked it more than I thought I would as background music. 2.25/5

Techno, very repetitive

a little boring

Rapid fire house beats Droning on robotically Can’t find the dance here

Forgettable

English electronica and techno. I do not need to listen to this much techno.

First listen Saved 2/8 Top track: Stagger

Not my jam

This had the sound of a soundtrack for an N64 or PS1 racing game throughout the album. I felt like I had to clear a bunch of checkpoints during my hour long drive home. Why this is on a list of top 1001 albums is beyond me.

Fatboy Slim this is not. But last few tracks weren't terrible.

Pretty fast-paced electronic music. It is what it is, not really my thing but I get there could be a place for this. It's not quite as annoying to me as a lot of other electronic music, that's the high praise I'm willing to write. It's really long too (73 minutes for 8 songs, so they're all pretty long). Favorite song: Blueski Other: Pearl's Girl 2/24/24

Decent electronic music, but not something I’ll go back to

Listened to a few songs. Industrial, early drum and bass.

It's techno, which is not really my thing. Interesting that I slightly prefer some of the non-popular tracks like Blueski. Banstyle is ok too.

It made me tap my foot along

Super techno, which is not my cup of tea. Too much beat and not enough music for my tastes.

Opening track seemed promising but it all quickly got boring and repetitive. As background music, it's ok but there's nothing special here.

Me gusta lo electrónico. Este mas o menos. Hay mejores.

Not really my cup of tea, but it wasn't awful.

Not my style but have listened to worst. Was bopping along to “Confusion the Waitress”. Did not add to my playlist

House music isn’t really revolutionary

For this to come out in 1996 kind of blows my expectations of music timeline? Andy loves these 15 minute songs but didn’t like Fela Kuti…. Hmm…. I’d love this in a bar. I liked Stagger a lot.

Cooler Beginn mit schnellem Beat. Hinten etwas lahme Balladen. Habe dann noch die Single Born Slippy (Nuxx) gehört, die gefällt mir besser.

I understand going to the club and dancing the night away to techno music, but I wouldn't choose this genre for everyday listening. I don't listen to enough of this style to know if this album was good or not.

Total club techno music. A couple songs were good, most were mindless two-note repetition.

Vampire make out music made before Garage Band made this drag and drop.

Hm. Not my thing. I'll concede that it sounds well-produced and certainly interesting. But this is really one of those genres where I'm not even sure what I'm listening for -- it's not catchy, hooky, nor particularly heavy-hitting or melodic either. Kinda sounds like what you'd hear on the soundtrack if a movie were trying to portray a grungy 90s nightclub.

I will never understand the immense praise that Underworld continues to receive from critics and audiences. I guess you had to be there in the 90's. And the drugs. Don't forget the drugs.

Just wasn’t for me. Couldn’t get into the 15 min songs

Juanita:Kiteness:To Dream Of Love - This feels like it's perfect for a long Blade Fight Scene... or MDMA. Banstyle/Sappys Curry - Like the little drum and bass intro and the ending is really cool. Both songs above don't need to be this long though. Confusion The Waitress - Eh... didn't love it. Rowla - This is energetic as heck, repetitive though. Pearl's Girl - I do like how all of the tracks separate themselves from each other. You aren't getting the same electronic or IDM sound. This one isn't bad either. Air Towel - This is kind of nostalgic in a way because it reminds me of Electric Circus being on MuchMusic in the 90's as a kid and man, it's not my thing but to whoever likes this style of electronic music, this must be their shit. The layering is fucking cool, I will say. Blueski - A nice sombre moment to breathe, I actually liked this. Stagger - This feels like a completely different band, wth hahaha. It's good though. Especially when 4:20 hits. hehehe.

I figured this album had a chance to be something a bit more special when I noticed the use of whisper-y, trip-hop-esque vocals mixed with something obviously influenced by the Britpop wave of vocal inflections. However, with the tracks being so long and hardly doing enough to earn that length, it lost my interest quick, and turning into your generic, PlayStation 1 era racing game music about halfway through rubs yet even more salt into the wound. I think there is something here that could be good, especially with more vocals to make actual songs rather than just sleepy rave tracks could benefit this album a lot, but as it is, you can just throw it in with the dozens of other generic UK downtempo techno records.

First of all, it would have been better if it was an instrumental records. Dude's voice is painfully mediocre and his lyrics are even worst. I'm not a fan of 90's techno in general but I have to say that this has some nice passages here and there. Not enough to make me want to listen to it ever again though.

If I didn't know better, this list would lead me to the conclusion that electronic music sucks.

Well... The first half of this album was annoying to death, boringly repetitive and meaningless. AND SO LONG. The last 4 songs contained nice synth tones, cool beats, cinematic moods and more feelings. Those songs will save the album from a 1 star rating.

As far as EDM goes, Underworld is one of the better groups out there. I appreciate that they throw in a bit of prog and experimentation into their mixes and you don’t get pulverized by an aggressive incessant beat like with some other groups.

not for me

I like electronic music but this moves too far into dance music. I'm not sure what I dislike about it but the bass-y-ness of it and the... sound is a little bland. Not my vibe.

Born Slippy is on the re-release so that'll probably be considered my fave

I loved this at the time, but now it just feels a little empty and mechanical. I should like all of the elements: pumping beats and atmospheric electronics but it all just feels a bit too mannered and over-thought. It needs more soul. You probably had to be there - and I was - but it's all bit too knowing for me all these years later.

This was great wfh music, and not the full on 90's clubbing experience I had feared. It's a rarity for EDM to sound better at home than in a club. There wasn't much else in there to draw me back. Pleasant, but not life changing.

I’m not really a club-going guy, which I feel like is a detriment to listening to this album. In fact, I’ll argue that there’s probably no good way to listen to this album without being in a club. I was in a car driving to Maine for Thanksgiving. Here’s what ultimately leads me to a 2/5 rating. It’s not that the album is bad, but I zoned out to the extent that I was thinking about (and hearing in my head) other music! That feels like an indictment against this. And, when taking into consideration that this came out around the same time as Daft Punk and Air were making their (superior) debuts, I can’t help but feel that this album lacks imagination.

panaches n grpnuts

playstation 1 racing game music (derogatory) this album definitely hits a lot of problems i have with the electronic music i've experienced so far in this project. the really upbeat stuff is very repetitive. the "slow stuff" is very... nonchalant and subdued. like i feel like the music should be more energetic? and it's not downbeat, but it just feels like... a lethargic upbeat. if that makes sense. anyways, the ceiling here for me is "mid background music" and the floor is "really boring music played in the dressing room of the clothing store your mom dragged you to in middle school" - either way, i was quite uninterested by this.

Daft Punk is way better

The repetitive loop-based electronic music present on this album is the kind of thing that makes me feel like I'm losing my mind. The songs that actually have lyrics and some sort of musical progression are pretty alright, but 3 minutes of the exact same loop with minimal changes are really not my bag.

I enjoyed it while it was on but I’m not coming back

Today is the release date for the new Ed Stasium mix of the classic Replacements album Tim (called the Let it Bleed edition). I've had this day marked on the calendar for weeks in anticipation. So all I was hoping for today was a quick album, hopefully something good, that I could get through before diving into the 3+ hours of new, glorious Replacements music. And what do I get, but a 1.25 hour electronic music album, basically the antithesis of everything the Replacements stood for. Not cool. 2 stars. The new Replacements album on the other hand? 5 stars.

Not my thing really. Some interesting sounds but I’m not interested in that “four on the floor” type of electronic music

The fear I feel when I read 90’s British electronic music… I gave it a fair chance, I did. The problem is, though, that it was just what I expected it to be and then he even sang about licking Colonel Sanders’ fingers.

in general, i am very fond of underworld. their music, an integral part of the cult classic Hackers, was one of the first to open my eyes to electronic music in my youth. however, this is just mostly boring.

Context: I only know 1 track by Underworld. Listens: 1 (Barely) This album is the pure spirit of 90's dance music and the way that tracks are built are really impressive and way beyond it's time. Saying that although I can appreciate this is a fantastic album, this didn't really hit for me.

This album demands you are either are in a club dancing away, or cleaning or working out or racing a car.... you gotta move to endure this... made it to the 1st track of the 2nd side of the album... but that's it... is it horrible? No... Just simply not for me... maybe in small bites sizes or one track. If you can survive the 1st track which si 16 minutes long then you might make it half way or til the end...

Would love to listen to this while rolling on molly in some German boiler room. At my 9-5 office job though? Not a big fan. The music isn't bad, its actually pretty high quality techno, I guess I just don't see its greater utility or reason for why it should be important.

It's really good dance music that absolutely hits a level deeper than similar groups around the mid-90's playing this style. It's a bit longwinded for me and difficult to listen to all of the way through, but it would be better in a different setting is my guess. May warrant a relisten to try to highlight and understand some of the subtleties

just boring et répétitif. drum n bass clearly not my thing 4/10

Not a favourite example of the genre. Too generic, doesn't dig into a particular area and really deliver something compelling or interesting; it doesn't tug at the emotions, it doesn't set you soaring, it doesn't make me feel. Music for elevators.

First 10 minutes were a dreadful mistake on my part. As an album to listen to anywhere near active-listening - e.g. in the car - this is absolutely disastrous. Literally about 8 minutes into track one which centers (drones) completely around one single chord/note was nearly literally driving me to madness. When I realized I was halfway done with track 1 I self-corrected into waiting until I could put headphones on and have this as background. And most definitely works as such - this is the album you want if you're working for 75 minutes at your computer, which... :) It's odd how an album like this actually makes me concentrate on my job/task at hand even better. Question: does that mean I actually *like* it? Maybe not. It's specialized to be sure as there's no way I could put this on for many other things other than work - it's like an audio tuning-out landscape. Hard to rate because I like the vibe it provides but it's almost like when i turn my attention back to the "songs" I don't like it at all - ends up sounding like cold repetitive nonsense. So while it serves a definitive purpose for me...Is that 3-worthy? It's like an appliance. Useful. It almost feels like I'd be giving an oven or a Roomba a 3. Can't do it, even if I might "use" this album again. 5/10 2 stars.

Pointless cyclic electronic posturing. Must need ecstasy to "enjoy" this sound.

This music was everywhere at the time, but today I find I'm so over it... The senses of freshness and originality are gone, and we're just stuck with the repetitiveness.

This did not draw me in.

Dave is floating.

It's electronic music and it is entirely way too long.

Probably blew minds in 1996.

En el seu moment àlgid de glòria, fent bandera d'una época i un moviment. Jo estava a l'altre extrem estètic i actitudinal, així que mai van ser sant de la meva devoció

Weaponized printer music. Crazy how this is probably the shortest techno album I've had so far. It starts out pretty interesting and ends up on a cool note (that final song sounds a whole lot like Depeche Mode), but the middle is like an hour and a half of weird forgettable beep boops. Not for me, sorry.

I don’t like techno

The thing I like about techno is that it doesn't change. The thing I don't like about techno is that it doesn't change...

I listened to this album this morning and I’ve already forgotten the specific things I had to say about it. Just some lame electronica that was really long I guess.

I’m not a huge fan of electronic music but after listening to the first track, I thought this one had potential. But after that, everything went down hill and the music lost all cohesion. The beats were awful.

There was actually some neat ambient stuff happening in the background of some of these songs, but the whole thing was so bloated and overdone. It was like what you might get if you asked David Foster Wallace to write a book report for a second grader. Another artist that either didn't have a producer to rein them in or didn't listen to them. Best track: Pearl's Girl

I just cannot get into this type of eletronic music. I dont know, it just feels like random sounds mixed together. Not saying its bad, just that I dont know how to appreciate - songs are long and repetitive, not in a exciting way - I guess the genre is not for me.

Did not really enjoy this. Too long.

Sauvés du 1 sur le gong

Wasn’t a big fan of this one, it felt drawn out and wasn’t captivating. I zoned out several times and just wasn’t interested in the sounds that I heard. Faves: Blueski

Enjoyed the techno sounds but the lyrics were forgettable. Would serve well as background music.

It was fine but ultimately was just repetitive background music

I checked a handful of times to see if this was almost over. Not only was it a 'No' every time, but I was still on the first track... Not for me.

Não me recordo, então não marcou rs

Pearl’s Girl is the only song I liked, but the rest of the tracks didn’t leave an impression on me. They are too drawn-out and just sort of meander with no satisfying conclusion. Maybe I would have enjoyed this album more if it was being blasted through a good sound system in a club at 12 am while I was under the influence.

Its way to long and way to repetetive. Ive found that Electronic music generally is really interesting but this somehow manages to be kind of boring

Decent on the whole but just needlessly long and repetitive

Tepid and tedious chill/club music. One may be missing some subtlety, though there's nothing to engage non-fans, nor any reason to listen to it before or after death.

Not my thing. My dad would like it though

The most positive thing I can say about this LP is that it helped me fall asleep on the plane.

90s electronica is very distinct.

This veered a little too much into DnB for me to enjoy it, and I cannot with the super long songs. I didn’t mind “Banstyle / Sappys Curry” but I’m not sure I’d even add it to my highlights playlist.

Genre: Electronic I was never a fan of the modern Electronic music scene until I started listening to albums on this 1001 list. Most of the albums I don't care for the first time I hear it, but after several listens I really start loving them. This is the first time I'm hearing the one and this "band". First Impression: Descent. I need to hear it more.... Standout: probably "Rowla" Rating: 2.5 Singles: ---------------------------------- Pearl's Girl Rowla Juanita

I'm not a fan of techno/dance so this was quite boring, just repeating random noises ad nauseam. Nothing that stands out from other albums in the same genre, but maybe something a fan of dance would enjoy.

Just not it

I don't hate it? Not sure if i like it either. tries too hard to be Aphex Twin at times sound extremely outdated somewhat hard listen: mid

This album felt like it lasted 45 years. I don’t remember ever starting it, it’s been so long. What do I rate it? How do I rate eternity? How do I rate an album that has managed to evade the bonds of time? Probably two stars.

I mean… it’s unique to say the least?

Es bueno pero no me agrada escuchar esta música

As an inhabitant of the underworld, I can confirm that we always listen to techno beats that could've been decent if they aren't overlong and unnecessarily repetitive. As for the "Second Toughest in the Infants". It's not really as brutal as it sounds. It's just something about a kid's experience in a nursery school in the UK. Of course, a good bunch of us know what kind of underworld nursery schools are.

Very long and repetitive

Ik voelde me ergens tussen verveeld en geënerveerd.. niet mijn ding. Maar vond het oké genoeg om niet het minimum te geven

This didn’t do it for me.

Bit boring in places as the pieces are left for too long. Some sounds too much like the Born Slippy hit, others sound like bjork should bee singing them. I think there were better electronic dance albums during the 1990s.

1996, name and album cover, I'm going SCUNGY UK TECHNO. and boooooooom nailed it. Oh and it goes for over an hour, because of course. 2/5.

Not my thing

GABE HATTO MUSIC

Boring.

Some of these tracks remind me of the background music that you would play in a scene where life around the main protagonist is sped up and blurry to denote the passage of time. Similarly, these tracks blurred together and nothing stood out for me. It was fine as background music.

inte för mig

nothing great

Nothing stood out to me on this album. Fine production but nothing to write home about personally.

Electronic musiczzzzzz

Endnu et elektronisk album. Måske lidt bedre end de andre, men stadigvæk meget repetativt og meeeget lange numre. 16 minutter 😕 2,5 stjerne

It shone in a few moments, but overall it felt very repetitive within songs and I in cohesive as an album 4/10

4/10. Would've been better without any vocals I think, but overall fine.

Perfect album if you think On the Run is the best Pink Floyd song. 3/10

Maybe it would be higher if they just dropped all the vocals

Electrónica. Monótono. Cansino.

Not my thing, but it seems like they do this well

The problem with frontloading your album with the biggest, most epic-length tracks is that you're going to burn out the listener right off the bat. Unless you're, I don't know, Kraftwerk, you shouldn't do it. Even Rush couldn't really pull it off... I find myself shutting off 2112 after I make through the title track, and that's a much better album than this. This album starts with two tracks that each clock in at over 15 minutes, making it a tedious exercise to grind through while checking this album out for the first time. There are some interesting ideas here amidst some dated textures, but the structure of the album has killed its forward momentum for some auditory dick-wagging.

Only had time to listen to one track so far. Wasn’t expecting electronic music like this in the list tbh, but will finish it later

Mmmmmmm not my cup of tea

Boring BG music.

Seemed like a standard 90s foreign electronic album. A couple of the songs were a bit long and were pretty easy to get lost in but the other songs were pretty hectic noise. Nothing my style. 3.7/10

Meh I did quite like dancing to it, but also kind of bored by it the entire time

Droney and flat. not my thing.

Gets super tedious. I almost feel like ambient music shouldn't have song breaks. Just work it right into the next song. Like Floyd would do. It's not terrible by any means, just goes on too long. It's like they made their point at 3 mins but kept going for five more.

no techno for me

Far far below the standard set by their previous album - all very dull really with only a couple of good tunes

I now only need the smell of smoke and stale beer to make my morning complete.

well made album, but I found it kind of boring/repetitive

Meh, lots of long repetitive songs, some of which were extremely annoying. I did, however, like one or two songs.

Not really into it. Very sleepy.

This is just entirely not for me.

It was okay, pretty average. Nothing really stood out for me apart from the first song. 2/5 stars.

Songs were way too boring to be that long. A little change of pace here or there would have been nice. Almost a 1 honestly but not bad enough that I wanted to turn it off.

Šta sam čuo, ok niš spešl

Wasn't great. Beat heavy and low on tunes.

Boring 😴

Far far below the standard set by their previous album - all very dull really with only a couple of good tunes

Nothing noteable in here.

Ok, but kinda boring

Ok, pra falar a verdade eu nao prestei muita atencao

Not a great fan

No Born Slippy - no party

There is really no point in including albums like this. Their purpose is not from a songwriting perspective.

Needs some drugs.

wasn't feeling it... didn't get far

Boring...repetitive....

Hypnotiserende techno beats, udmærket baggrundsmusik,

1996. Key Songs: Rowla

This list could be 101 albums. At the rate I'm going 90% of them are 1 or 2 stars. 1.0. This one takes crap to a whole new level. I really wish 0 was an option.

This is album 972 and if I’m given another shit EDM record it will be too soon.

just noises.

Top : Stagger Flop : Air Towel

Repetitive, long, and boring. Doesn't go anywhere. 1/5

I’ve had a really shitty week and this just made in infinitely worse. Thank you underworld for making me feel even more nauseous than I already was. This kind of music is just so fucking irritating. Especially when it’s so fucking bland like this. Pass.

One of the more boring electronic music albums here

En commençant cette liste je me demandais quel serait le pire style que j'allais découvrir. 506 chansons plus tard, difficile de ne pas considérer l'électro anglaise des années 90.

I still have a hard time taking purely electronic music seriously. Acts like Underworld, who don't even have a real singer, don't make it any easier. Their album “Second Toughest In The Infants” consists of various kinds of ringtones, which are, at least, layered in a rhythmically coherent way. Is that a creative achievement? I don't think so.

Wishlist version of Nine Inch Nails with less creativity and bite.

I needed an Anacin two minutes in.

“ it’s okay Tim, not every genre is going to be for you….” I gave it a good though!

The author cant be serious with this nonsense. Let me save you some time. Just listen to the first minute of every track and you have the full experience. Skip around the songs if you want, all you'll get is incoherent mumbling and awful staccato beats. Its like when you're trying to hear someone speak and they just dont speak loud enough, and there is awful eurobeats pumping around you.

Groan, another electronica album. The overly repetitive loops make my head hurt.

Even in my second attempt to get into this one I I couldn't. I ended up skipping around just looking for something redeeming

Uh...no.

bad one :)

First song is the best one, legit banger. The rest kinda fade into the background.

Bom bompie bom bom, bompie bom bom, bompie bom bom. Wat is dit ongelofelijk saai. Toing toing, toingtoing, toing toing, toingtoing. Vijf kwartier lang herhaling. Bonk, bonkbonkbonk, bonk, bonkbonkbonk.

La electrónica no me gusta y no entiendo mucho tampoco. No es lo mío.

Don’t like edm

Back with the noise pollution.

These electronic british albums are really testing my patience, seems like I hit the wall if this was a marathon

Yeah, you could not get more repetitive and padded-with-unabashed-filler than this. That was my thought at first. And that was my thought for most of the album. Juanita / Kiteless / To Dream Of Love... is this opening track supposed to be representative of progressive music? There's hardly any progression to speak of. The rhythm and tempo remain exactly the same for all 16 minutes and 36 seconds. The strongest part of the song is around the 13-minute mark, when some fairly good modern-sounding vocals come in and the percussion is completely cut out to give the ears some space. Otherwise, the song mainly consists of this one irritating electronic percussion pattern. Which wouldn't be so bad if it were 3-4 minutes long... but 16 minutes? Nah, man. I got places to be. I got In Rainbows sitting right there on my Spotify homepage giving me the sexy eyes. Banstyle / Sappy's Curry is marginally better, at least for the first half. But then the synth soundscape starts, beginning with a two-chord pattern that slowly builds over the course of seven minutes. By the final few minutes of the song, the atmosphere is positively orgasmic. Reminiscent of the middle section of Pink Floyd's Echoes, and every bit as good. I'm not exaggerating. (Though it could be that all the preceding slog let me to temper my expectations.) It's not like a carbon-copy of Echoes, though. You can hear plenty of futuristic-sounding production to cement this record firmly in the 90s. The remaining tracks never hit the same peak as track 2. Confusion The Waitress, despite beginning with a promising drumbeat, falls into the repetitiveness trap (which electronic artists think makes for good music. Yeah, I don't get it either). Those mumbly vocals can't be good for the ears. Following that, Pearl's Girl does the same thing with repetition, this time for almost 10 minutes. At least we get some vaguely decent synths. Air Towel? Just shy of 8 minutes of the same 1-bar melody, accompanied by poorly enunciated whispering of some lyric or other? No thanks. At this point in the album I felt kind of bad for the Underworld fellas, so I gave Blueski a like (despite it just being one looped riff on an acoustic guitar). It helped that it was only 3 minutes long. Stagger is a pretty solid way to end the album, though: the keyboard lines are quite pretty and wouldn't be out of place in an underwater-themed retro video game. It beats most of the other songs any day of the week. So much wasted time on here, though. Less than a third of the album runtime is actually listenable. 1/5 Key tracks: Banstyle / Sappy's Curry, Stagger

I couldn't listen to all of it, it's just too long and boring.

No solo odio a este álbum, sino que también odio a cada persona que afirma disfrutar esta música.

Why is this here? Why am I here? Why?

Absolutely no idea what I’m getting into with this album. I’ve never heard of the group, so I’m guessing it’s electronic from the United Kingdom. The title, Second Toughest in the Infants sounds like an infant named the record. I don’t get a good feeling about this, but I’m diving in. By the by, it turns out the album was named by a preschooler. Track 1, and I can already hear the stupid electronic drums beating out a rhythm only a computer would love. Ugh. The song is called Juanita:Kitless:To Dream of Love. Oh, now a robot is singing. I don’t understand how electronic music with no groove ever became popular. I will admit, as the song plays on for what seems like an eternity, I find myself moving my leg up and down like I’m waiting for test results. It could be that energy shot I took 15 minutes ago, but it's probably the music. Not sure that’s what Underworld was trying to accomplish with their life’s work, but it does make for decent background music while you work. Damn, track 1 is 16 minutes long. The whole album is over an hour long. I knew I had too good a start to the week with Iggy Pop and ZZ Top to keep that streak going. Hmmm, Pop Top. Track 2 is Banstyle/Sappys Curry, and it literally sounds like music you’d hear in the background of a late-night TV ad hawking some Ron Popeil gadget. This music is made for TV show montages and background music. Track 2 is also around 15 minutes long, and midway through the song, it sounds like something that would be played in the movie version of Miami Vice. Maybe Crockett and Tubbs are sneaking up on the Cuban drug dealers in the shipyard as Crockett’s main squeeze is being held hostage. But otherwise, this song has been background music. Track 3 is Confusion the Waitress and to be honest, I didn’t even notice it was a new track until about 4 minutes into the song. Not a good sign. This is just chill music that kind of hypnotizes you. It’s actually making me sleepy. Track 4 is Rowla, and it’s waking me back up. It’s actually starting to annoy me. The bass is pumping constantly. It’s the stereotypical bass pumping that you do when you make fun of dance clubs. This album came out in 1996, maybe they were the kings of boom-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom. This song sounds like what would be playing in a Mission: Impossible movie as Tom Cruise chases the bad guy across the rooftops of Prague. They parkour and make these long-distance jumps until they finally reach one that's a bit longer than the others. The bad guy tries to make it, falls short, and splats on the ground. Cruise yells out a loud, but short, “NO!” before returning to his team to report the bad guy’s demise, before they got the crucial information from him. Track 5, Pearl’s Girl, sounds very similar to track 4. Though this is more drum and bass, I think. I’m slowly becoming an expert. This annoying bit of trash is slowly winning me over. It’s noise, but in a good way. And now there are vocals, or at least a dude yelling loudly. Track 6 is called, Air Towel, and after a cup of coffee, I’m really starting to bop that leg up and down. Again, I think it may be the caffeine more than the enjoyment of this music. In fact, I’m more tolerating the music than enjoying it at this point. The Tony Kornheiser Show is calling to me more and more. Track 7, Blueski, sounds like it has….guitars? It must be a sample. Back in the day, I loved a band called Tesla. Tesla was a band out of time, as in, they became popular during the hair metal era, but they weren’t really hair metal. They did write some great ballads, but for the most part, they wore no makeup or frilly blouses. They were jeans and a t-shirt and rock and roll, with a twin-guitar attack brought to you by Frank Hannon and Tommy Skeoch. The reason I bring Tesla up is that in the liner notes of their albums, they would always put “No machines!” in there. So, what does that mean? I thought it meant they weren’t using synths or keyboards like some of these other bands were starting to use. I say all that to say this, with Underworld, I think they would have put “All machines!” in their liner notes. That’s a long way around to get here…I don’t think that’s a real guitar being played on Blueski. Track 8 is called Stagger and I LOVE this song. Holy crapballs! Why didn’t they do this the whole album? It is still all machines, but the singing has passion, and the song makes me feel a certain way that doesn’t involve me writing a movie scene. This song is like a real song. I think that’s why I like it. And I’m sure it’s not the greatest song ever written, but Underworld put me through so much robot rock that when they actually deliver a real song, it’s great. This album isn’t for me. I’m sure all the ravers have this on their Mount Rushmore, but if you aren’t into dance music or electronic music, this album won’t bring you over to the dark side. But if you like that sort of thing and you haven't heard this album, you should check it out.

This list asked me to spend over an hour listening to this album. Time I won’t be able to get back, but I very much wish I could. What a waste of time. 1/5

Another boring, British electronica album that is only suitable for hold music

long techno album. Could be a good background album I guess, but not my speed

una pija aburridisimo

Cool looking cover. Unfortunately, the music verges on unpleasant for me. Again, techno with this overlay of vocals intended to give the dry dull skeleton some soul. Buried in an excessively long package - 1 hour 13 minutes! - the CD era did us no favors, as this kind of music was cheap to make and distribute on that medium. And because everything from synth to speaker is digital, it didn't have any pesky issues in engineering. Unimaginative and lifeless.

A slog. First non-finisher.

The American people are tired of these overly long and repetitive electronica albums

I don’t think I want to know who was the most toughest in the infants. Nor do I want to know who approved that as a standard of measure.

I don’t do ecstasy and my club days at Ultra are behind me.

Ok. Safe to say I’m not an electronics fan. I just don’t get it.

Beyond tired of the electronica genre

If this is the 2nd toughest, the bar is really low for 1st place

Давненько не ставил единичек)

1 - TERRIBLE

when you listen to this piece you keep checking the song that has been playing for the past 15 minutes and realize that you're not even half way through the song. Why does the song keep changing IN the song. I liked the production so clap clap for that. Thumbs down.

i think we can all agree that the mark of truly great music is that it's enjoyed almost exclusively by people under the effects of a drug that increases your pleasure and energy, and we are blessed to live in a world where all of England's most insufferable head trauma victims produced an apparently inexhaustible supply of this stuff in the 90s. I'm just curious why these hard working dolts thought they had to make every album 70 excruciating minutes long, when you could just play the first track from any of them on repeat and none of the people rolling in the club would be able to tell the difference anyway, hell I'm sober and I can't tell the difference!

i think people who enjoy techo should reflect whether they actually like techno or its just the drugs they take at raves that they enjoy

Oh my - EDM with similar beats for 13 minutes and me without any ecstasy or dance floor :(

I managed thirty seconds of each song and even that was too much
