The Clash vibes!
It's clear from looking at the lyrics and reading more about this album that it was important. Unfortunately, we managed to not notice anything about those lyrics until the final song and our impression is that it was a decent, standard punk album. Maybe we'll pay more attention and listen again, but it feels like a decent 3 star album to us.
Enjoyed this more than I expected. Kinda a weird sound for the era in my opinion. At first I thought they are a 90’s band but turned out to be much earlier.
Ok - nothing stood out
Devo-ish
Above average politically charged post punk. It's solid, angular and funky , and I’d listen to it again, but at the same time it didn’t blow me away.
Some catchy songs
Never heard of them, pretty good. Can see the influence on other bands.
I enjoyed it more that I thought I would.
Of course more britpunk. This one's quite good background music cause it's pretty monotone. Stand-out: 5:45
Punk’s not my thing - just doesn’t flow, makes me edgy. But maybe that’s the point. This album was at least consistent and made me pay attention. I can appreciate the musicians’ artistry. This sound can’t be easy to reproduce consistently.
Post punk! I like post punk because you can hear the music, not as screachy. I really love the funk and dance influences in this album. Lotta fun
Brand new to me and overall I enjoyed it! Seems like a british band and some songs were better than others. Sounds like a couple modern bands like White Stripes.
Love this album
Enjoyed it. Like early Jam
Decent. The songs all kind of sound the same & it gets a bit tedious as it goes on, but it's not bad. I'd say I was relatively entertained.
Extension of Television?
It’s certainly angular
“Please send me more evenings and weeksends”. If i had more evenings and weekends i would spend that time fucking Naoises mom
Very generic music for the time. They repeat the same lines over and over for every song. Music is alright but all sounds the same. 3 stars.
Not a big punk guy and the atonal melodies got old but the instruments are great
I suspect this one caught me on a good day but it had enough energy and anarchy to keep me invested for the whole 40 minutes of play. This easily puts it in the 'potentially relistenanable' middle of my album review curve.
Great punky sound, without being just power chords, with a velvety ice pick guitar tone.
I can see how this influences future bands.
A lot of the same sounding songs. But liked Natural's Not In It, Return the Gift and Glass.
The bass really drives this whole album. "Damaged Goods" is a staple on my punk and 70s playlists ... although I'm not really sure what "Post Punk" means. All these classifications for what something is. But there's no doubt this is quality "entertainment" ... whatever you want to call it.
Favorite Tracks: At Home He’s A Tourist Damaged Goods Love Like Anthrax
It was ok. Punk and Post punk are not really my things. 3
Cool album.
Pretty straight forward early punk.
high energy post punk with plenty of social commentary. easy to see the influence this album had on rock music. good album. highlights: “ether”, “damaged goods”, “guns before butter”.
Jagged, angular. D Boon must have been a fan! Really good although won't be a regular listen.
a somewhat austere and minimalistic post punk romp. took me a few tracks for everything to 'click', but I found a surprisingly pleasant and headbobbing experience with some interesting lyrics. 3.5/5
3.5/5
UK Punk from 1979, Embryonic of new wave... just missing a synth
Jokku ihan ok biisejä ja entuudestaan tuttu artisti. 2.5/5
Great record from a time when people were doing stuff for the first time.
Good Made music but not my style
Decent.
The genius of Entertainment! lies in its incredible tension... The rhythm section of Dave Allen and Hugo Burnham creates these infectious, funky grooves that make you want to dance, while Andy Gill’s guitar stabs through the mix with a scratchy, abrasive energy that sounds like an electric shock. It’s a brilliant deconstruction of rock music where the bass takes the lead and the guitar serves as a rhythmic, percussive weapon, all perfectly supporting Jon King's barked, politically charged lyrics about consumerism and alienation.
Actually pretty good and I learned a new band today
I like the choppy guitar sound, solid album
Overall, a pretty solid album. Short, tight songs, super funky bass grooves, left wing lyrics (on the cover of the album is a picture of a native shaking hands with a cowboy with the words: "The Indian smiles, he thinks that the cowboy is his friend. The cowboy smiles, he is glad the Indian is fooled. Now he can exploit him.")....all very punk rock, just a lot more polished than a punk record. Much less thrashy, with a better flow and more direction. The first half of this record was a lot better than the second half. It kind of fell flat after Glass. Favourite songs: Damaged Goods, Natural's Not In It, Not Great Men, Ether, I Found That Essence Rare, Glass Least favourite songs: Guns Before Butter, Contract, Love Like Anthrax, He'd Send in the Army, It's Her Factory 3/5
This sounds like everything talking heads or ramones ever wanted to be. Ahead of their time in their own way, but spawned so much ass music 3
love an english punk band where you can hear their accents (meegraine)
It was fine! But it was hard to focus on. I liked what I heard though.
it was fine! enjoyable but all meshes together in my mind. 2.5
Pretty good - Devo, B-52s ish
Impressions: Great punk album with lots of bass! Favorite tracks: Natural's Not In It, Not Great Men, At Home He's a Tourist Rating: 3/5
Respectable.
So this album isn't bad for what it is (alternative with that garage band sound typical of the late 70s/early 80s) - but so far the majority of the albums on here have just been mostly this same sound, with token break through albums which are well recognised and famous.
Not something I would usually listen to but I definitely liked it. A a lot of it blended together for me.
This heaven gives me a mee-graine I threw this album on in the early morning, and it nearly gave me a mee-graine as well. Upon continued listening, I decided that I was either just not in the mood at the beginning of the album, or that it had a weak first half. I'm a huge fan of the cure, and "Object" would fit perfectly into this album, or certain songs of this album could fit into "Three imaginary boys," so I feel as if I have to reflect my love of the cure by giving this album a good rating. I really enjoyed the guitar throughout the album, and the musical ideas expressed by the guitar. I absolutely despised the vocals at first, until around T4- Return the gift, which I particularly enjoyed. Another stand-out track was T6 - I found that essence rare (playlist track). I'm bouncing between giving this album 3 or 4 stars. I think it's getting 3 stars, and I'm gonna go listen to the cure now to make sure that my musical taste hasn't changed. 3/5
It was a punk album. It was alright. The dial did not move much on it. It was relatively short at 37 minutes which was good.
Seminal album. Have been getting a lot of those!
God all around album. Ingen sange stood out tho
Good
This was pretty cool! Obviously draws inspiration from punk bands of the 70s but also incorporates some funk elements. Kinda like Talking Heads. I also hear a bit of early math rock in this. Interesting listen for sure.
I liked two songs: Damaged Goods and At Home He's a Tourist. The rest wasn't my cup of tea, but I bet Daddy loved it!
Ok
Of its time.
Enjoyed early punk rock.
Good punk
Good
Dear Generator, please stop sending me English Bands. They sound like a precursor to The Police or the Talking Heads or Oingo Boingo? I don't love it. I don't hate it. The song Contract is the most dynamic sound on this album.
There's a lot to like here. Dig the guitar and driving beats, but it was significantly lacking in melodies, creativity, and cleverness. There was a significant amount of redundancy.
3.5
I liked how the bass was in the mix, and the drums were interesting a lot of the time. Quality post-punk A bit less variety then other post punk albums I’ve heard, perhaps
This was a bit all over the place, with groovy sections transitioning into abrasive ones that didn't really feel natural. Solid ideas and decent execution, but it feels like they took it one step too far in a few cases
Just a tad too political, but maybe that's the point.
Average album
I can see how someone might hate this album. In parts it’s incredibly abrasive(the song contracts riff doesn’t even sound in tune) and not very good. But damaged goods is a great song and for most of the album it’s generic punk.
More punk. Although this didn't suck quite as badly as some of the other stuff.
Never heard of these guys before but I thought they had quite a good punkish sound. Might get a higher rating with subsequent listens. Highlights: Damaged Goods Natural's Not In It I Found That Essence Rare
Well, that cover is intense, isn’t it? Sums up their political stance pretty well! I do remember the Gang of Four vaguely but not too much. And where did they go? Apparently still touring with different iterations but they fell off my radar early. And I don’t know why because they tick a lot of personal likes boxes. I think the more I listen to this the better I will like it.
My first thought about this album is that it was not very dynamic. They have a similar tones as the clash and the strokes. I think they would be very good live.
I was immediately reminded of XTC's "White Music" and Simple Minds' "Real To Real Cacophony" when this came on, not necessarily because they sounded so similar — I only have vague recollections of those albums now — but there was something about the sound. All three of those albums were released within two years of each other, but somehow this was one I missed at the time. I appreciated the sound and vibe and demeanor of the band, though ultimately this didn't exactly speak to me. Took me back even though this was new to me.
Today’s listening hit the right way at the right time. Enjoyed but have nothing more to say.
I feel like lo-fi punk is at least an automatic 3 for me.
I actually liked most of it 3.7/5
Lots of catchy lil bits to enjoy
For an album that is only 40 minutes long, it felt pretty long. Still, a bit more enjoyable than I expected. I don't really like punk, so the punk influence isn't helping it for me. My favourite song was Damaged Goods.
first listen immensely boring
I was a Freshman in high school when this came out. It totally passed me by, as I am not familiar with it, at all. I'm liking it. Love the licks and the musicianship, itself. Quick songs...get to the point and get out. I will listen again.
Really cool, I like this
Maybe I just wasn’t in a punk mood yesterday.
not sure if this is my jam but i also don't mind it. like an upbeat thing.
This was fine, I did not get much out of it.
Early British punk album that is mildly amusing.
Not bad, but not sure I could listen to it all day.
Did not listen to the record very thoroughly but skimmed through the songs. Overall decent album bit all over the place.
3.5
Hadn't heard of them. Now I have. That's a mostly good thing.
Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: Yeah it’s a very decent record and has some consistent but solid sound throughout Favourite song: Track 1 - Ether
Interesting mix of post-punk and new wave elements. Lots of driving bass lines, not much singing, a lot of speaking rhythmically similar to talking heads.
pretty ok
Liked the album, especially Naturals Not in It and Damaged Goods
Surprised by how much I liked this. I'm usually not that into post punk stuff. Really good.
Uma jóia.
I like this! I can’t believe it’s 44 years old. Sounds like a sort of proto-punk (not sure if that’s a term or not).
This sounds like an influential album, both on 80s post-punk groups and 00s indie bands. The playing is tight, the lyrics are sharp, and there's a sense of purpose about the whole thing. Despite all this I find it a bit hard to love. Might just be a bit samey, musically?
I owned this record at one point let it go because my ears were weren’t attuned to late 70s early 80s post punk new wave from the UK but now this list has inundated me with late 70s early 80s post punk new wave from the UK so I can confidently say I’d let this record go again. Nothing bad, some catchy things but im having a bit of fatigue
I really dig the beats, but a lot of it feels pretty generic Brit-punk/post-punk to me.
some cool punk-ish British music. I liked it alright.
It was fine
HL: "Not Great Men", "Damaged Goods", "5.45" 3.5 The caustic lyrics and catchy rhythms set this apart from otherwise similar post-punk bands I've listened to. January 4, 2023
Had what that clash album was missing
Nothing special but nothing terrible.
- entirely new to me. Never heard of Gang of Four - Ether has “skipping” quality than grates my nerves - I have essentially no opinion. It really blended into the background as I listened. It may have been progressive at the time it came out, (and I appreciate that it was influential on others) but it just sounds like classic punk rock to me
Pleasant listen, refreshing compared to some other stuff.
I found this album quite the Entertainment! It's all a bit eggs, chips and beans but then that's punk I guess or post punk as it happens
This was new. Not familiar with Gang of Four but i liked it.
Lacks coherence of thread as an album. Some excellent singles.
I was never a fan of Punk, but post punk is another story, especially when it’s done well with intelligent (and intelligible) lyrics, good musicianship, and great hooks. Damaged Goods has always been a favourite of mine and over 50 years later it still kicks ass. A lot of folks say that this sounds a lot like the Killers, LCD Soundsystem, Wire, etc but I think they’ve got it backwards, THEY all sound like the OGs of this genre, The Gang of Four.
I wanted to like this. I was excited to listen to it. This sounds like a combination of The Clash & The Cure and not as good as either. I can't quite put my finger on why this is disappointing but it is.
An album that, in the sea of post punk albums, sinks rather quickly and remains forgotten
Mycket go skate på ps2 feeling
tycker inte detta var så intressant
I was ok with this one, i have liked the other 70’s punk rock bands but this one was ok.
Cool overall sound that can be a little abrasive at times in a good way. Feels like some proto punk type of sound even though this was released in 1979 and probably just towards the end of proto punk. One thing I would have liked more was if they changed their sounds across the board across the album. It sounds like they recorded all of the vocals on the same day, in the same room, with the same energy level, etc etc. This is something I read once about Pearl Jam focusing on- like how they would intentionally change knobs / settings on guitar amps and move microphones even slightly just so that each song would get it's own kind of sonic placement within itself. I love the album cover and the words on it. Very interesting. Middle 3/5 for me.
Am into new wave, now called Post Punk but never like Gang of Four. Still 3 stars for the wonderful base play of Dave Allen, who later made the whole world happy with Shriekback
Didn’t listen
This is really good, and miles ahead of its time - if you don't listen too hard this could very easily be mid 2000s indie rock (a la Maximo Park, Franz Ferdinand etc.). Don't think there's a huge amount of filler in this either, punchy, gritty not quite punk music. Top end of a 3/5, really enjoyed.
Glad to have been made to listen, but I probably won’t revisit.
Post punk, ok
What happens when you can't play guitar? Well this apparently and most punk bands, so you can sound edgy and raw. I like this sound on a lot of emo albums.
The whole day is indeed greater than the sum of its parts. Still lacking something though
Kind of grew on me. Still not my favorite type of music
Fine proto punk
Well it was entertaining, that’s for sure
I hadn't heard of this band before. They sound similar to other early punk bands to me.
Solid album, can see the influence it had, though not quite as strong as some other post-punk albums
Nice album. It looks like an essential album for the post-punk movement, but it's a little bit annoying sometimes due to the repetitiveness. Not perfect, enjoyable, and historically significant, so it deserves a 4-stars rate.
It’s, it’s not terrible. And I liked a lot of it but man is it for a particular time and vibe that I’m just not into
Decent punk rock. I liked the lyrics and some of the grooves but personally I like punk to go a little harder and with more energy. Just a personally taste thing
Pretty good post punk/new wave album. Nothing stands out but I did like most of it.
I can see why it's significant even if it's not so much my thing!
Liked it. Can't remember any of it.
This was very good, refreshing. 3 stars.
A few good tracks but a lot of it sounds too similar
Very punkish kind of post-punk. Very enjoyable, the bass lines are very good. All the songs sounds alike, but I liked the album nonetheless.
Doesnt feel that original now, but at the time I guess they were pioneer of the punk genre. Great album, but all songs felt a bit the same. I liked it, but I'm still really attached to others bands in Punk/Post-Punk.
Very good post-punk album, but unfortunately, nothing particularly hooked me up and it won't fit into my genre classics.
Pretty solid easy listening
Gives me punk rock vibes and little bit of weezer. The guitar work is solid. Doesn’t really stick with me though. Maybe a couple more listens but I’ve started this album multiple times now and the second half kinda blends together besides love like anthrax. Fav tracks: ether, not great men Least fav: none
I was aware Gang of Four existed, but didn't know anything about them and had never listened to any of their stuff. Sounds like it was groundbreaking then - a little dated now. But I enjoyed listening to this - they have their own sound.
I've a couple of these, I've from a cover done by one of my favourite bands. Decent enough 3/5, maybe a 4.
Solid punk music.
Punky
ok. didnt rock my world
Nice sound and interesting enough but it’s too long
Well, this certainly is a reasonable representative of its genre. It just isn't my genre. I did find a line in it that quite described how I felt listening to it: "How can I sit and eat my tea? With all that blood flowing from the television"
Umm...well...okay. It was fine. It didn't find it challenging to listen to...well, maybe I found the last track somewhat challenging. I also didn't find it life-changing in anyway. I am just going to leave this Gang of Four here.
Cool and edgy, sharp and angular, jagged and argumentative – this sounds exactly like politically engaged music should sound. One can hear its influence (even if one wonders whether the influencees are fully aware of the actual influencers.) It gets to feeling a little one-note after a time, but this is a band/record to know for sure, and a clear marker of a cultural moment. 3.2 for 3.
felt like expired canned goods.
Ironic this album should be called 'Entertainment!' because it provided almost no entertainment value whatsoever. Okay, thats a little harsh. Repetitive and grating to start, this album got off on a bad foot, but I think it grew on me over time.
OK,
I liked it, cool vibes. Wasn't that impactful though, didn't leave me wanting more. It was fine and that's fine for today.
No lo recomiendo mucho
I really like this band despite not really being super into punk and generally finding it quite stressful. I hadn't heard of them before and I did find some of the tracks on this album fun! I didn't come out of listening super stressed and I could appreciate some of the elements. The singing voice actually isn't making me anxious and it's quite nice and nostalgic somehow. I'm pleasantly surprised but I wouldn't pick it out to listen to in future.
Good overall punk/post-punk album.
Punk rock
a bit weird at times, but i dig some songs. might need another listen though
Eh, it's okay. Early songs are not doing it for me. Still okay.
3.6 - The one word I’d use to describe this record would be “effective.” The instrumentation is spare. The guitar is punchy with non-stop riffs, sometimes dissonant and jagged. The vocals and lyrics are clear and the songs provide social and political commentary that’s easily discernible. This record would be spinning at an independent record store and I’d think to myself, “this sounds cool, I should ask the clerk what it is.” But then I’d forget to.
Fun punk album. Less aggressive than some of its contemporaries.
There's too much punk in this list of albums 😮💨
Good album. Nothing amazingly good but nothing bad. Right in the middle.
This has a cool punk funk groove. The vocals aren’t great but I do think that it fits the vibe of the album overall
A bit punky Late 70s. Must be one of the earliest punk style albums
Not sure that I had ever heard this band before - but they're okay. Coming out in 1979 I can see how it would have hit a little different than some other stuff at the time. It seems like a nice little "bridge" from the 70s punk scene to the New Wave 80s. Also - I'm biased, but I love how they relied on the bassist to kinda drive everything.
A Ramones feeling album that I didn’t mind. Nothing stands out except maybe Ether.
3-, first half was very much better, then it didn't slap that hard, not bad album after all
ganska bra
Early punk, like it
I can hear the influence a band like this has across many generations/decades of music, but it just wasn’t something I could totally vibe with. It wasn’t great, it wasn’t terrible, it just is. Good chance I’ll probably never revisit, but not upset I gave it a listen.
3.5
Really liking this one
That's entertainment!
Varied and entertaining, will definitely listen to again.
Kallistuu kolmoseen.
Ihan vekkulii settii. Perusbrittipunkin olosta seiskytluvulta, mut toimi mulle
I realized before listening that it was a British band I had vaguely heard of from the late 70s/early 80s, and it did not fill me with hope based on my previous experience with the 1001. But I was pleasantly surprised by Gang of Four. I mean, it's not exactly pleasant music. It is challenging and different, but that was good - it stood out. I should clarify that it was different from their contemporaries, but I do hear a lot of reflections of Gang of Four in 00s indie bands (Bloc Party came to mind a few times). A lot of times I don't understand the classifications that make for some rock sub-genres. Post-punk is one of them. But Gang of Four definitely felt post-punk. There were elements of 70s punk, but mixed with something new. I like what Gang of Four brought to the genre, and like how they seem to have influenced future bands. But... "Entertainment" was still a bit uneven for me. There was some four-star content, but it wasn't consistent enough. Its somewhere between 3.75-3.9, but can quite break through.
reminded me of the B-52's. but with more explicit political views
An enjoyable minimalist punk record. Antiestablishment lyrics that are interesting and the instruments don't go overboard and get annoying. 6/10
Obviously an influential piece of art, with many bands still today replicating this sound. However, few tracks really stand out and a lot tend to blend together. Decent album overall
Didn't know what to expect. Wasn't expecting this. Certainly a new (at the time) way of recording music.
I really didn't like it at first, but it did grow on me. I think it's a very catchy album, and I liked the instrumentation, but I'm not a fan of the type of singing. I recognize his talent, but it didn't feel harmonious or rhythmical to me, it just felt kind of like he was talking but with extra steps (I know that probably doesn't make sense). I didn't like how often some phrases and choruses were repeated, or how it seemed like they were really reaching for rhymes at certain points, either, since it made the lyrics feel childish and vapid at times despite them actually having a reasonably good amount of depth. Despite my complaints, I did enjoy listening to it, and tapped my feet along, so I can't really knock it below a 3, though it's more like a 2.6.
This was OK for punk; but really not my style.
I was entertained!
British punk. I've heard this genre several times now, and these guys do it pretty well. I like the new wave mixed in and the unusual instrument choices here and there. Better than Joy Division, less so than New Order. Not Great Men reminds me of a Talking Heads type sound, which I think they accomplish.
A lot of fun to listen to, but not super grabby for me. Listened twice but can't remember any tune. Love the energy, though. And the cover art.
Not bad, kinda entertaining hehe
Gave up after 4 tracks. Was okay.
Forgettable album.
7/10
7/10
Interesting punk album
Spiky jarring post-punk. Not an easy listen, but the influence on a lot of 2000s bands is clear.
So so, cool tunes but not my kind of noise
Enjoyed it, nothing earth shattering. Like Punk/The Jam
Influential to later punk rock
Really interesting that sometimes the guitar player would just make noise on some songs. Kept the album from being very straight forward. Nice guitar tones.
Is a kind of funk in the punk album, filled with metallic dissonances. A Talking Heads mixed with Jimi Hendrix. (6/10) Favourite Songs: Damaged Goods
Fine I guess - another late 70s British “post-punk” band - they’re really starting to blur together.
Peppy!
Didn't realised they did damaged good (havent heard in a while)
Thought the riff from the first track was familiar; turns out it was recently sampled for "the ground below" by Run the Jewels. Enjoyed the album at the start, but grew bored as time went on, was thinking this was going to be 4/5 after the first few tracks but it slipped a bit.
An album that is named aptly. An older album that has old punk style but has instrumentals and the sound of modern alt albums. Better than expected and could see the influences in modern songs. 7.1/10
I liked the song damaged good. It aged well!
unremarkable
Every song sounded similar, which wasnt necessarily a bad thing, luckily I enjoyed it.
I like the energy, but u have to say it got a bit tiresome before the album was over
Surprisingly raw and powerful!
Primeiro disco totalmente desconhecido pra mim.
Strong riffs, but a bit samey
Trip hop. Like The Avalanches and Evanescence got together in the mid 90’s.
classic british post-punk album, had never heard it before actually, Damaged goods is the highlight for me (their most famous song I think too)
Fun to listen to, but not something I would actively seek out or revisit.
These guys remind me a good bit of The Clash with the social commentary in many of the songs. I didn't feel like many of the songs stood out to me, but the album as a whole is enjoyable and you can feel its influence Saved: Natural's Not In It, 5.45
Quite good.
It was decent, as far as rock goes, but it just felt... Generic. Plain. It didn't bring anything new to me.
Interesting
Wow that first track was a painful start, but I liked most of the other tracks more - just wish they didn’t have those parts where the rhythm and melody are both totally disregarded. I’m not a big punk fan, but I think they had some pretty cool intertwining of vocals and instrumentals that made it a fun listen.
Post-punk isn't really my type of game. But it was okay experiencing something new.
Pretty good. A little rough around the edges. Can definitely see how they influenced U2
Good to know. I hear newer bands being inspired by this album.
closer to a 2.5
Nice groove and vibe, also the sound is very destinctive
And we’re back to our regularly scheduled programming. As the album cover suggests, there is a small portion of this album that is intriguing but the rest of it is just empty space. Not Great Men was a song I’ve heard before but can’t place where and I liked Damaged Goods but the rest of the album was completely forgettable. It feels like just another male British group. I won’t listen to this album again but I’m glad there were a few enjoyable tracks. I think the album title might be hyperbole.
I know the name, never heard the music. Reminds me of Wire. Will listen again. I feel like I missed out.
It’s ok, but it takes a lot for me to really enjoy a punk album and this didn’t quite get there. Favorite tracks: “Not Great Men,” and “Glass”
i enjoyed this. i can see how this would have been an influence and source of inspiration for future groups. at the time it was released i imagine it would have been amazing.
Felt a lot like the minutemen which i should’ve given 3 stars
This was a shocking surprise.
Didn't like this at first - bit repetitive, not much for melodies - but won me over by Damaged Goods. Some cool stuttering drums and fun bass lines. I Found That Essence Rare was another highlight.
false
Pretty cool album from a band I've never heard of. Post-punk? Punk-Funk?
pretty good. didn't love it but can see why it's important
It took me a while to settle into this album, but I'm happy I stuck with it. Once I got used to the under-production then I could enjoy the songs, and some of them are pretty catchy little numbers. Eventually I ended up humming along, toe tapping, and being a little disappointed when it ended. This album is a nice bridge between the harsh 70s punk and what came along after.
Lazy vocals aside, it's somewhat catchy
Medrivende rock, Indflydelsesrigt, forud for sin tid, ligefrem
Solid 3
Funky, but I no likey
More boring british punk. I sleep.
Still not big on punk
ok
it’s loud
Un yaourt nature, y'a rien.
Not my idea of entertainment. Very scratchy, whiny and outmoded. For karmic justice Red Hot Chili Peppers’ self-titled 1984 album should take its place on the list and Andy Gill should forever be eating the pizza boxes from its mixing session.
This was very samey, I have no recollection of any track and nothing that hooked me
Bit At the Drive In/bit Adam Ant. Not as much fun as that collision sounds.
More Brit-slop punk. Not bad but why are there so many albums just like this
Meh not feeling it today
It's funky. The lyrics are a bunch of bullshit (positive). The instrumentals are interesting. I want to like it. Everything just seems almost jammed together, and don't even get me started on what they were trying to do with the guitar in this. I like the rhythm, and the lyrics, but it's just not something I would ever pick up again.
Standard fare for what it was. There were lots of bands that to me are all similar, and along these lines (kings of lyon, kaiser chefs, razorlite etc). There is nothing I find exceptional about any of them. 2
Musical.ly, I like it energetic sometimes a little repetitive. Lyrically pretty bad. Overall, this is fine.
Punk is hard for me. Lyrics are interesting to read, but not so much to listen to.
Okay...except for the singing. I think there's probably not any punk on this list that I'm actually going to like. Womp womp.
I didn’t like the music style. I liked the lyrics and the singer
Tja punk
Rock, PostPunk, 1979 ->1-2
Highlights: Damaged Goods, I Found That Essence Rare, At Home He’s a Tourist
Heard some songs before. Well it's not a very good album innit? Most boring post punk ever 2/5
Didn’t mind it but didn’t really grab me
boring
Late 70s punk. Post-punk, reggea influences. Wish this list was more varied. Boring, don’t like post-punk.
I do hate this angular rock sound.
Pretty typical grating punk that I didn't enjoy, but it at least wasn't god-awful.
not the slightest clue. I think “post-punk” is perhaps also not my genre? Love like anthrax was a good vibe though
more Brit punk slop thats flooded the list. Maybe slop is harsh, but this does next to nothing to stand apart from its peers. The best I can say is that it seems mixed well, intruments and vocals are clean, give Ramones vibes, the dont drown everything in static and distortion, everything else is pretty unremarkable.
Sloppy boring punk music only on here because of where the author is from. There’s way too much stuff like this on the list
Straight out of the Brit Rock Generator.
Instrumentally, this has all the makings of something I should like. Clear guitar-led rock, some good bass, good energy while not being too much. But for some reason, I did not enjoy basically any of it. I don’t know if it was my fatigue with British punk albums but my opinion of it went down more and more as I kept listening.
Not for me
look, it honestly sounded very similar to the type of genre I usually listen to, it’s giving very the cure vibes, which I love…but idk it felt kinda repetitive and I simply didn’t like the lyrics much, and I need to feel connected to type lyrics to like a song.
Meh
This is difficult to place or categorise. Natural’s Not In It had some cool guitar riffs. Vocals are a bit odd for me but I guess it kinda suits the style. I like the bass work here – it’s keeping the beat driving but with a lot of nice fills thrown in, especially on Damaged Goods. Some great riffs in Return the Gift but a little too repetitive for me. There’s a lot that’s jarring about some of the sections and guitar riffs (a lot of it is loud scratches cutting through) which isn’t exactly pleasant (I know this may just be the genre and I can see the use of this for effect) but doesn’t land for me most of the time.
I can see how this band was ahead of its time, but I will not be listening to any songs from this again.
"Oh, this is THAT band?" For some reason I often confuse Gang of Four and Mission of Burma. Now I have learned how to tell the difference...Gang of Four uses the same annoying, scratchy guitar tone on every single song. I can hear how a lot of later bands that I really were influenced by this, but this album just didn't spark my interest. Maybe a single song every now and then would be okay, but not the whole album.
post punk. sounds ok, but I didn't have the patience to listen to all of it
Very “The Cure” and “Depeche Mode” like. Only more frenzied and frantic
It's punk but like if you wanted punk that was the most punk-punk you've ever heard. I don't really enjoy it.
