Reviews (page 5 of 7)
This was pretty okay, but the sound is dominated by the singer, who sounds like he's singing through that lump in your throat you get before you cry. I was distracted worrying about the long-term health of his vocal cords.
It’s not bad but they have better albums
Probably rate it higher if i hadn’t heard so many of the tracks on repeat when it came out and at work. It’s a good catchy album, but doesn’t reward in repeated listening. Very sparse minimalist production that sounds good but kind of muddy. Still great songs that are very memorable
6/10.
Always thought these guys were lame. Kinda proved right. Terrible voice. Bad production. Sex on fire the supposed hit is boring. I thought singing about teenage girls was frowned upon in the 2000s. This album was not something I had to hear. It’s three. Not bad just meh.
Pretty good.
Seriously, dudes...it's 2008. Performing songs about seventeen year old girls is super-uncool. That hasn't been allowed since "Beavis and Butthead" won the battle against Winger and everyone realized that KISS were just a bunch of jerks. Deduct one full star for that. The rest of the album has some pretty good songs "Notion" and the hit, "Use Somebody" are standouts. Still, the knowledge that the Followill clan are not good people clouds my perception of their music.
This album marked the point KoL became festival headlining megastars, and their music started to become that bit more commercial and bland. But really they hadn't slid too far yet - this is still a decent album with no bad tracks, just fewer great moments than their previous couple of records. I even had an Only By The Night poster on my wall at the time, but that was mainly because I liked the owlish album art...
These tracks were so overplayed when the album came out, it really ruined the sound for me. And beyond that, many of the tracks are pretty forgettable and easy to tune out the bigger hits. This album is pretty much the definition of average… 2.5/5
Only By The Night – Kings of Leon – 3.4/5 This album was everywhere during my high school days, with its biggest hits playing in clubs, on the radio, and covered by countless bands. The music was widely accepted by teens at the time, but it’s not my style—memorable due to its popularity, but not something I’d revisit often.
Didn't hate this as much as I expected. I suppose as they're not as ubiquitous as they were when this came out. Made me ostalgic for 2008, first going to uni and them suddenly becoming massive. Still perhaps the shittiest set I've ever seen when touring this album though.
3.5
En oo varma tykkäänkö tästä överiseksikkyyttä tavoittelevasta käheestä laulusta. Hitit on kyl mieleenpainuvia. Ihan jees osastoa 3/5
Onhan tuo ihan tarttuva poppia, vaikka en jaksa kovinkaan pitkään kuunnella. keskikolmonen
One or two of these tracks sound great, but they also sound like a producer just wanted to get some songs out and this was the band available at the time, the rest is pretty mediocre.
Looks like 3 Kings of Leon albums have come and gone off the 1,001 list. I'm guessing this is the one I'll recognize the most material from, but I didn't get much mileage out of it. Doesn't bode well for the others. Even the radio hits here are just kind of okay.
First listen. Some of the songs I were familiar with. Ok album.
kings of leon are the epitome of 3/5 to me. at least this one was better than the last album, which was Bad. this was fine. sex on fire is fine. use somebody is fine. it's FINE!!
This feels like a bit of an album of two halves really. While it's still listenable enough, it really falls off in quality from about the halfway mark. The first half is much more successful I think. I've never really liked his voice or singing style, but I still enjoy a bunch of the tracks on here. There's some down and dirty beats in the opening tracks, particularly on 'Crawl' which I really like. Sex on Fire is a big track whether you like it or not, and whether it's been played to death or not. That will always bring back memories of me dancing on a table in an après ski bar in Austria, drunk on schnapps and drunk on life. Good times.
Not my thing but they are talented.
On their fourth Album, Kings of Leon made a conscious decision to try to pack arenas and bring in some cash, and it worked. These aren't by any means bad songs, but they aren't particularly interesting either, and it's strange to me that this is on the list, especially when other Kings of Leon albums are more interesting (though still not mandatory listens).
Ok.
Death, taxes and Kings of Leon being mid
Despite being a fan of their early work, I’d never actually heard this album before. Truly peak KoL in terms of the commercial hits, but more polished and produced than I like, and I kept getting mid/late U2 vibes. Some accessible bangers on there, but happy to hear them down the pub rather than as a body of work at home.
Meh. Uninspired and uninteresting. A three just because it's not objectionable.
The Californication of 2008. It was absolutely everywhere. It was also not that great.
This has some good tunes. Overall it's good but not that memorable.
I'm torn with this album. I liked the songs on here that I had never heard before, particularly the first two. I don't know if it's because I've just heard "Sex on Fire" and "Use Somebody" way too many times - I think I just prefer the more grunge/rock & roll than the screeching ballads. I would probably listen to a few of these off the album, but not the entire album again.
Pretty good album. A lot of this sounds the same but at least the sound is something I can handle for a full album. Probably won’t go back but I didn’t hate jt
Decent album, not for me tho
I must have listened to this a lot back when it came out because I remembered all the songs. It’s actually pretty good - I have not listened to the band since then though, so there’s a fine line between good and forgettable with this one
Bien
I liked the emotion on this record, and the musicianship was solid. That said, it was otherwise more or less forgettable, and I can't give it a high rating when I couldn't care less if I ever heard this record again.
Sounds of the 90s!
Generically inoffensive.
Catchy songs but lacks substance
3/5 Only By The Night sounds great from the beginning, with fantastic guitar playing. However, maybe the lyrics and vocals are lacking a bit, and as the album progresses, there are not really any new sounds or exciting ideas and it becomes stale. I Want You in particular is exceptionally boring. Cold Desert as a finish pulls it back well though. Closer 4.5/5 Crawl 3.5/5 Sex on Fire 3.5/5 Use Somebody 3.5/5 Manhattan 2.5/5 Revelry 4.5/5 17 2.5/5 Notion 3/5 I Want You 2/5 (LEAST FAV) Be Somebody 3/5 Cold Desert 4.5/5 (FAV)
cool
Good. A couple heavy bangers and then some mid level songs throughout.
Good middle-of-the-road rock and roll.
3 stars
There's a lot to unpack when I listen to the Kings of Leon. I found Youth and Youngmanhood when I was young, my hair was long, and my pants were tight. I once drove 90 minutes down the highway in the wrong direction, realized it, turned around and balred that album. This is not that album. It came out the year after I graduated high school. Navigating an entirely different reality. In hindsight, even the early stuff is a little cringier than I thought. This one is mixed. I can't completely pan it. Is it over the top? Yes. Is it completely self-reverential and pompous? Absolutely. But there are moments when the sound is pretty fucking good. And that's what they could do. It took me a long time to realize just how problematic the lyrics on the first few albums were. Because the sound really did it for me. And I feel that still. At least a little bit.
it's mid
Well i always had a love-hate relationship with this band. I liked their singles and hated the albums. While te singles alone show they are a good band capable of producing great music, when it comes time to form them Into an album everything falls apart. This is the same with this album, the singles are amazing and the other half of the album is bland and boring. And sorry, What the hell is up with 17?
Middling.
It's fine. Sounds good. Just not really my taste.
Ok rock album, not much to say. Singer was hard to understand at times.
Another in a list of bands I really should like but don’t do much for me.
really nice sound, chill
All I knew about Kings of Leon was that I had heard the band's name before. This wasn't bad. It wasn't something that would make me want to seek out more of their work but this was enjoyable and I would listen to it again. 3.25/5
Thought a lot of this was more dramatic than it needed to be low 3/ high 2
I listened to their earlier albums a lot in 2007, but since then the only time I've come across them was playing Sex On Fire on Guitar Hero many years ago now. This album now sounds VERY of its time. The intro to Use Somebody is like a million noughties TV idents. It's fine to listen to, but I wouldn't particularly return to it.
Undoubtedly better than their first album with some really enjoyable songs, but still a ton of droning, forgettable, same-sounding dreck.
Not their biggest fan but this one is pretty alright
Some bangers. A few songs are just okay.
Vocalist is reminiscent of Steve Perry from Journey. And, much like Steve Perry, his voice ranges from compelling emotion to overwrought and annoying. I want to rate this higher to give a boost to my score for albums from the 2000s. But I honestly can’t say I want to listen to this again as a whole. A couple singles, maybe.
I enjoyed it ! 3*
cool to listen to and i can enjoy it though it still shows that a couple hits doesn't make an album worth listening first and last tracks are cool too
Love early Kings of Leon, but this record started their sellout era. Still some decent song, but if I never hear sex on fire or use somebody again I’ll be cool with that.
Competent.
Me gusta pero a veces es demasiado popero o "people pleasing". "Sex on Fire" es 10/10 y también me gustó "Crawler". Le pondría 3.5, pero la realidad es que es un 3 que tiene cositas que lo suben a 3.5.
A million percent sick of Sex On Fire (and at least 1000% sick of Use Somebody), but this is not a bad album as far as commercial popified 00s rock goes. I like the second half of the album more than the first half - Revelry and Notion are probably my favourite tracks from it - but almost all of it stands up beside the two tracks that are way more poppy. I had purged 17 from my mind (or maybe it didn't sound quite so weird to 18 year old me!), but that has not aged particularly well given they would've been in their late twenties by the time they wrote this. There are definitely better KoL albums. 3/5.
Very solid modern rock. Use Somebody was a big deal for me back when it was a single. This album overall has a lot to offer, even if it doesn't have a huge range.
2.5- Kind of boring indie-alternative-southern rock, but there are some good songs. Although my family loves early KOL, so I may be being too harsh, based on my upbringing.
'Because of the Times' was the last Kings of Leon album that I checked out, before losing interest in the band. Hearing this one confirmed my feeling. It is not terrible, but not really worth my attention either. Three stars, just about.
Similar development as with Coldplay. After the first couple of 'smaller' records, they go full stadium rock and I lose attention.
Better than Youth and Young Manhood, but still not all that appealing.
Aside from the big hits from this record, there's not much here that sets it apart from other rock bands from this era. I did dig the drum sound a lot on a few tracks, but that's one of the few things that stand out for me. Notable Tracks: - Sex on Fire - Use Somebody - Manhattan - Revelry - love the drum groove 5/10
Closer // Use Somebody // Revelry //
Surprisingly decent. I absolutely hate his vocal style, but honestly not a bad way to spend 40 minutes.
Fine! Innovative to me at 13, less so now
Vähän tasapaksua. Sex On Fire selkeä huippukohta ja sitten Use Somebodyn jälkeen taas tasottuu. Parhaat: Sex On Fire, Use Somebody, Cold Desert
The first 3 Kings Of Leon albums are really interesting/full of energy/surprising I think Aha Shake Heartbreak in particular is a brilliant album This was their commercial apex but see’s a lot of what made them unusual worn away. Crawl has a great start but becomes really plodding which pretty much sums up a lot of the album Sex on Fire is a great song no matter how over played it is though Not bad but really not great either
Kings of Leon is a name I've heard around. Kings of Leon will continue to be a name I hear around. Favourite track: Crawl.
Some good tunes but the cracks were starting to show compared to their first two albums.
so so, a bit pedestrian, pleasant enough but a bit boring
Solid Dad Rock. 3.75
When an album has hits on it as big as “Sex on Fire” and “Use Somebody,” I like to judge it based on the question, “If someone bought this album because they loved the singles, would they be satisfied with the rest of the album?” The answer here has got to be yes. This is an easy album to listen to and the album cuts fit right alongside the singles. It’s an enjoyable album of summertime rock. I can’t find anything to complain about here.
I've spent the last ten or fifteen years or so moving away from standard "rock" music. I grew up listening to the amazing songwriting talent of bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam, I then spent years listening to heavy / death metal because it offered me more interesting elements, and then after and since then I've been more of an indie rock listener. I've thought for years, "why would I listen to "rock" or "radio rock", with all of it's standardized song structures, typical and uninspired timbres, and been-done-before performances and production when I could listen to indie rock, which has offered me so much more in terms of fresh ideas and boundary pushing moments? Indie rock gives me standout acts like The Decemberists, Japanese Breakfast, Mitski, Father John Misty; bands that are grounded in rock but also experimented, blended other genres, and often attempted new composition conventions. When I see a dude pick up a regular looking electric guitar, plug it into his regular looking guitar amp, and start playing some regular old power chords in some regular old chord progression, I'm immediately unimpressed and I need something else to make me want to listen more. Rock isn't the new thing or the rebellious thing that it once was; it's so much a staple that it's arguably the most popular genre of music. Kings of Leon for me have been a band that exemplified that straightforward and boring rock music connotation. I thought for years that everything was so standardized within their sound, even their drums were the same rehashed beats over and over. A few years ago though I started to listen them in a new light, just listening without any kind of prejudice involved, and I really enjoyed hearing their songs in a randomized playlist. Yes, they were / are "just" rock, but the music sounds good. It's so easy for me to get in my own head with music and the taxonomies in defining genres and all of that crap but really these songs just simply sound good. I'm partial to the non-radio ones because I've heard the radio ones so much, but I don't groan as often anymore when they come on. Rock is timeless and these sounds have been done so many times because it's a formula that is pleasing to human ears. Sort of like how there is some genuine half science half magic understanding of how humans love the pentatonic scale, there is something in rock that is equally as enjoyable for unknown reasons. It's rock, it's done before and they are doing it again, but I can't say it sounds bad. I think Kings of Leon are a band that will be remembered as a solid rock band, but not soaring to the heights of a timeless one like the Foo Fighters. This album has two of their massive hits and is a reason why they will be remembered.
I was always a defender of Sex on Fire amongst its controversy and dumb lyrical hook, but I can see why this album was both their most successful record commercially, as well as the final nail in their musical coffin. It's a massive step down from their prior albums, and just puts me to sleep with It's attempts at being something more, when at the end of the day I only really liked Kings of Leon for scratching that garage rock revival but in the South itch. This is just pop rock you would've heard on the radio in the 2000s, and while it's mostly technically quality, it can be pretty hit or miss, and nothing really is as good as Sex on Fire, so if you already don't like that song, I can't imagine sitting through this album. It's fine, but it could stand to be much better, and you can really see the band slipping here.
Surprisingly listenable.
Better than their other album, but still pretty generic rock. Had some cool climaxes in some songs. Stand-out: 17(Seventeen)
I’ve give this one a 3.5. I think there is some potential here but overall I don’t think it has enough for me to enjoy it fully or to want to listen to it regularly. Use somebody and sex on fire are the hit songs they everyone knows and they are my two favorites.
Just kind of meh!!
I was really surprised to see Kings of Leon on here. Not because they don’t deserve it (which after listening, I’d say they do), but because they’re recent enough and were kind of a flash in the pan (at least in the popular music scene) that I didn’t think they’d garnered enough notoriety to be here. But here, they are. I actually really enjoyed this. Felt like a great mix of pop rock, U2, a teeny-tiny bit of Vampire Weekend (it’s hard to explain…), and lots of hard guitar. Caleb Followill’s voice is the obvious star here. It has such a unique tone. Strong, expressive, but with this affectation to it that really grabs and holds your attention. The rest of the band kills it. Such a tight group. Wasn’t surprised when I read they’re all brothers. Not much to dislike here. Very listenable, very fun, keeps your attention. Didn’t blow me away though. 3 stars. Also, “17” felt like a creepy song. I have done no digging into the lyrics or their meaning but on the surface it felt like a creep show and I wanted no part of it. Standout Tracks: Closer, Crawl, Sex on Fire, Use Somebody, Revelry
The only thing I knew about Kings of Leon before this listen were ‘Use Somebody’ and ‘Sex on Fire.’ I still like both of those songs, and I think the band is good, but I feel like I’ve got their technique figured out: crunchy rhythm guitar with reverb, a crisp piano or lead guitar with a simple lick, and then a kind of whimpering wail. Like I said, I think they’re a good band, but I enjoy singing along with rock music, and I felt like that would be hard to do with a lot of their songs. I’ve always liked the way he sort of squeals ‘Use Somebody.’ I always exaggerate that part. Just from hearing it on the radio so much, this album is always gonna bring back memories of 2008.
If this band had a different lead singer, I'd easily be giving this album at least 4 stars. But I just can't get past this dude's voice. It's very annoying. The songs are good, but they can't outweigh his whiney, scratchy voice.
Not a bad album. First Kings of Leon album where the vocals didn't bother me. Use Somebody, Crawl, Closer, and Sex On Fire are solid hits, though. 3/5!
Only by the Night showcases Kings of Leon's signature sound but lacks the raw energy that defined their earlier albums. While it features some catchy tracks, it doesn’t quite capture the fire of Youth and Young Manhood or Aha Shake Heartbreak. The production is polished, and the band’s maturation is evident, but this also feels like a double-edged sword. There are standout singles like Use Somebody that hint at their commercial appeal, suggesting they may be on the path to becoming a singles band. Compared to their third album, Because of the Times, this release feels more cohesive, even if it’s not as compelling overall. Fans will appreciate the melodic hooks, but the deeper, grittier sound is noticeably absent. It’s a solid effort that showcases growth, but one can't help but long for the fire of their earlier days. Overall, Only by the Night is decent, striking a balance between accessibility and artistry, but leaves you wanting more. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 4 STAND OUT TRACK - Manhattan
This is the Kings of Leon I'm more familiar with, and not really a huge fan of. The singles Sex on Fire and Use Somebody were very overplayed on the radio when this album came out; listening now after at least a decade of not hearing them, they aren't bad songs, just not ones I'm every going to seek out. I like a lot of the bass playing on this, but overall I don't think it's as interesting as previous albums. 2.5/5
I found this sleepier than Aha Shake Heartbreak, but it's still ok. There's a few songs I liked but overall, this one was a lot less for me. I don't really see any reason to revisit it. 2.75/5
a very pentasyllabic offering
I was pleasantly surprised that I sort of liked this album. Can't really say why, but they were certainly better than what I consider to be their contemporaries. Worth a 3 in my book.
use somebody, sex on fire, closer indie nice
A bit annoying.
Some classics on here which are classic for a reason. We enjoyed this but were not overcome with joy.
You know what? I'm in a good mood this morning; coffee is hitting just right, weather is playing nice. I was ready to trash this sellout record as insufferable garbage, spouting off something about how KoL's only good record was their debut, yada yada...but then I did something I've NEVER done in the entire time of listening to albums on this list...I skipped a track. That track? Sex on Fire. Now please, don't think ill of me; I truly give every song a listen on every album, and I'm not in the business of disrespecting artists by giving up on them. But I've heard Sex on Fire a million and seven god damn times, and if I die and go to hell, that will be the song they have for me on the loudspeakers. So, what happened when I skipped Sex on Fire? Well, as you could imagine, we went on to Use Somebody, another song I've heard a lot, but is a bit more manageable for me. And it worked! We went on as if nothing happened, and the rest of the album played out. And you know what, it's not half bad. It's safe, overall a bit uninspired, and contains almost no energy the band had when they were crafting their first album, but it's got enough bits of musicianship that make for a fun arena rock listen. Seriously though, go back and listen to that debut. Album fucking rules.
I find the lead singer's voice insufferable. The singles are good, "Use Somebody" is my favourite. "Closer" is a good opener. When the second half of the album comes on, the quality drops significantly. So I have mixed feelings towards this album. 3 stars for "Only By the Night".
The most three star album of all time. It's entirely serviceable, it's precision engineered to be used on emotional bits on the X Factor, and its boring as hell. They were a band once!
3.5
more than 3 less than 4
finally, at long last, after so many people refusing, we finally have a band that asks "if u2 is so good how come theres no u3???" okay tbh still quite enjoyable for me...songs feel very static and kinda glompy, but picking a Sound and a Melody to ride out cozily in the shape of an alt rock song isnt something that eludes my tastes. given a different context where id be coming back to this more (or if this was one of the albums i picked up from walmart when i was 15/16 and trying out this Music thing) i could probably even get rly attached, its comfy! but certainly not among my most significant discoveries from this project either way
Very nice mix of vocals and instruments. Felt good
It was alright.
This was okay but maybe not really my cup of tea. The strained vocal style got on my nerves by the end.
I think that I can enjoy Kings of Leon only in bitesize servings. The full meal of an album leaves me feeling a bit bloated.
This is ok but there's a lot of music that sounds like this but that I like much more. If I had nothing else to listen to, I wouldn't be too upset but if given a choice I wouldn't choose this.
Definitely a bit more strung out and laid back but still good. SOF and Use Somebody I'd be OK never hearing again. They certainly know how to write songs.
Better than I expected
These guys were big…a friend lives by one of them in Nashville & says “great neighbor”. That’s all.
Guter Mix, angenehme Stimme, atmosphärischer aber nicht dichter Sound
I totally like their sound, even if there is nothing to special to it. the couple of mega hits at the beginning of the album really peak it so it drags a bit. maybe with a different track listing. I did not remember that 17 song... bruh
снова планирую продолжать их слушать. хороший альбом, не перестаю удивляться как секс он фаер отличается от того с чем меня знакомили в караоке)
3.5 stars I do hella enjoy the vocals on this album When this album came out this dude at work listened to it quietly on repeat in his cube for months. And often one song at a time. I've heard My Sex is on Fire no less than 700 times. WHO FUCKING DOES THAT?
This kind of monotonous arena rock is not really my thing. Kinda catchy, but also, every song feels like the background music to a guy in a romcom going back to get the girl. That being said, listening to this album made me look the band up and even listen to their earliest albums, which groove way harder, like a mix of CCR, Dylan, and the Allman Brothers. Good stuff! Shame they shifted into U2 - Coldplay territory. 2.5/5 ... I'll round up.
OKish Rock album. 3/5
Like it!
Honestly I loved their 1st album at the time, even seeing them live twice when they toured four 2004 Big Day Out. They were rough and raw, coming across as a hillbilly answer to the Strokes (who Kings of Leon Supported one night). Fast forward half a dozen years and the had evolved in the a very safe and radio friendly ballad band. I know people who eats this stuff up but to me they were had become bland and about as dangerous as a fluffy bunny.
I think this band is talented, but they stalled creatively
Geht so....
This is the equivalent of eating oatmeal, and I mean plain oatmeal. While, yes, there are times where you're craving some oatmeal, that's a very rare scenario that typically doesn't last longer than the five to ten minutes it takes to make it. Most of the album just didn't land with me and the few songs that did land just didn't stick. Ah well, at least it was over relatively quickly.
I'unno. On my first listen, I just didn't care for it all too much. Very "boring late 2000's rock" vibes. Like, it honestly had my wondering why this album was a hit—if it even was a hit at all and wasn't just being carried by its two singles. Really, it was only on my re-listen to the first half where I began to enjoy it, and only because I saw someone compare this album to U2. Specifically, JOSHUA TREE-era U2, and, like, I'unno. I can hear it, certainly, but nothing here soars for me in the same way THE JOSHUA TREE could. Of course, that U2 comparison is the thing alone that's raising this to an "it's fine" 3, 'cuz otherwise I really could not care.
Not that much to say besides that is some decent alternative and that Use Somebody is an A-tier track. Shame they became NFT shills later down the line.
The first two songs are decent, then it starts to fall apart. The singles aren’t bad, but they were so overplayed on the radio that I’m still kind of sick of them. The singer’s voice has grown on me a bit with this album. It can still be too whiny and annoying, but it’s not as egregious as the other album on this list. Musically it’s catchy, and it’s kind of different from what else was out at the time. The drumming is generally cool, and the guitar has sort of a post-punk revival vibe combined with the Southern rock. But after a while, the songs start to blend together. They sound like they’re trying to blend Interpol with Southern rock. Lyrically, the first couple of songs are pretty good, but there are still too many vapid rock star lyrics. The songs “17” and “I Want You” are pretty gross. The verses to “Be Somebody” are pretty epic — it’s a great post punk song, and the drums are great. But the chorus is kind of meh, like a generic Coldplay song. It still might be my favorite song on the album. Closer, Crawl, and Be Somebody are the highlights of this album. It’s an alright album. I’m still not sure what makes this album worthy of being on a must-listen list, let alone why they have TWO albums on here when so many great artists are left off completely. 3/5 (but probably closer to 2.5)
Some good songs, but def full of burger and car commercial music
While i do like the instrumentals, i really can't stand this voice!
6/10 Knowing the big singles, and not liking them much, meant that I went into this with low expectations. But it was a bit more interesting than them, competent stadium rock with blues and country influence. Released the same year as Viva La Vida, certainly playing in the same waters, so comparison is inevitable. I have a strong preference for the Coldplay one. Why? All comes down to the lyrics and vocals - Chris Martin’s click with me much more, found this album a little “faux heartfelt” and occasionally annoying Melodies good, rhythm section excellent. Best: Crawl
Ako je morgan wallen drake with the twang onda je ovaj album u2 with the twang. Ipak skroz solidne pjesme
I enjoyed listening to it, but it gets a bit same-y after a while, and his voice starts to get a little annoying. He sings with almost no enunciation and does the same vocal tricks in every song, so I wish there was more variation. The hits are great, of course.
Not as good as I remembered
Not a bad album. There were a couple good songs on it. I wouldn't go to it for a regular listen, but if it was playing I wouldn't object.
Serviceable rock. Heard a lot of sex on fire and its a decent track. I like the one with the bells.
This album doesn’t really pull me in. It’s at a time where rock and roll was waning, and so it stood out as counter that trend, but I don’t find it that appealing of a listen.
Cool, soulful voice. Neat arrangements on some tracks. Some of the songs fall flat, but some of them light you up. Playlist choice: manhattan
Listened Before? N Pretty good. Not necessarily as good as THEY think is is but pretty good nonetheless. I dig the groove and the mood. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Notion
it was olkay, good music, but not something I would listen to again
Back in 2008 you couldn’t walk outside without hearing a song from this album and boy did that get annoying. Now over 10 years from it being released it’s actually a pretty enjoyable album when you only listen to it once in a while. Notion is probably my favorite on this album although there are several good hits on it that hold up. Biggest drawback is the singers unintelligible voice from time to time but still a decent album. 6.9/10 (nice)
Bängeriä laskematta kohtuullisen keskinkertaista musiikkia johon kyllästyy kohtuullisen nopeasti. Superhitti nostaa niukasti kolmoseen.
I was interested in earlier albums of Kings of Leon. This one is alright but it kind of laid out while they became a bit boring
3+
Who did Kings of Leon pay to get 2 albums on this list (praying there isn't a 3rd). Not as bad as the earlier album and first 2 tracks are pretty impressive. Down hill from there... but they seem to have improved the musical side of their work, the lyrics still are terrible.
Ça a pas pris de temps pour returner sur le indie rock insipide de dépanneur et autres centres dentaires. C’est vraiment juste moyen, ya pas d’autre terme plus approprié
These guys get a lot of hate for some reason, but they're not that bad. A little same-y and I didn't really like any of the songs that I hadn't heard before, but it's not terrible.
Was burned out on the Kings when this came out, never gave it a good listen and was tired of hearing the hits on the radio. Overall a good album, enjoyed it.
This is quite nice. KOL has a unique vocal style that is very provocative even on the remainder of the album that was not a radio hit. This is a lot better than I remember it. Seems like a classic.
Solid
I liked this more than I thought I might.
OK, nothing groundbreaking.
Better than I thought / remember from the singles
A great album with a big sound.
pre listening notes: i know two songs off this album, sex on fire and use somebody. and i like these songs! so i’m excited Closer - off the top this is a funny name for a first track on an album bc closer as in proximity but also closer like finisher. music wise, i am a complete sucker for a laid back trippy beat and a whiny man/guitar. i like the vibe of this song but there isn’t much substance here Crawl - gritty fuzzy baseline with gritty lyrics. again i like the sound & vibe but the actual substance seems lacking, could be me tho Sex on Fire - i already know this one as i said & i like it!! Use Somebody - same as before, i know this one and like it already. teenage me was listening to this Manhattan - hey that’s where i am! lol. i guess this one is about having fun and doing what you want? guess you don’t need a real message when you sound good. which this song does! big fan of the musicality Revelry - feels like a response to the last song. most lyric heavy song so far. i like the verses more than the chorus tbh, but i do like the verses. this is probably my fav one i didn’t know before so far. we love a song abt regret lol 17 - sorry to do this to this song but i’ve been kinda saying it the whole time. there’s a type of music i really like that sounds good but is less meaningful, and i think this whole album does this. i like the way this song sounds but i can’t imagine this standing on its own Notion - sounds good man. Kings of Leon have worn me down lol I Want You - woah, this one sounds.. different?? Leon i didn’t know you had it in you! it’s a hookup song?? this brought me back. new fav. Be Somebody - at least it sounds different still, but idk how i feel about it. i like that we’re trying to be instead of use lol. but kinda meh, i like the baseline tho Cold Desert - i like this one! it’s different, slow and sad. i think the singer’s voice is good and it’s nice to hear it do upbeat as well as sad, although his range is virtually the same in every song i will not hold that against him. annnddd there’s a bit of a fake ending! bring it back leon! overall, i can’t rate this album super favorably because of the amount of stuff that sounded super same-y. i did find a new song i like (I Want You) but i wouldn’t revisit this album. 3/5
Closer - I was so excited by the into music and then the dude’s weird voice made me take several steps back Sex is on fire - such a man song smh Use somebody - a bop Revelry - I like the bass guitar in this. Would 10/10 listen to this in a boat I want you - I groove with this song. Then I looked up the lyrics and I groove less. Be somebody - I like this one a lot
Having heard and liked both singles on this album, I expected a four star. Sadly those are the best tracks in the album. Nothing else stands out a whole lot, which the exception of Cold Desert. 3/5
I remember listening to this album in a couple of the tracks when it came out, unfortunately there was nothing that kept it in my rotation long-term. For me there is nothing that brings you back to it after you've experienced it a couple times. Giving them a 2.5 & rounding up because I've been too harsh lately. 😝🤷🏻
Solid album, I enjoyed its run. Too bad Caleb was such a twit. Would I listen to this album for fun? No. But it had its place.
Kings Of Leon were huge in Australia, especially this album ‘Only By The Night’, which went 11 x Platinum and got heaps of radio airplay, to the point where it’s become ubiquitous and is still a staple on Aussie rock stations everywhere. I however, never really got into King Of Leon, so this is the first time I ever properly listened to them, and this album…well it’s good. It’s a catchy, solid rock album full of mainstream appeal. It’s nothing earth shattering, but it’s enjoyable nonetheless and there’s worse ways to spend 3/4 of an hour.
It's good, but it doesn't have any real highlights. They received more hate than they deserved from the self-appointed gatekeepers of rock 'n roll. Reminds me of Bush. The singer sounds like a rock singer in a cartoon would sound. Almost a funny voice. Favorite song: sex on fire.
It’s not bad, exactly, but it strikes me as totally unremarkable. Generic 00’s soft rock with good production.
Not too much to complain about, their songs are fine, though underwhelming at times, but it's nice to hear there are bands that still play rock, when it's becoming increasingly rare for bands to gain traction during an era with "stars" from YouTube, TikTok. Some good stuff here, but nothing stands out for me as it's a fairly genetic and unmemorable. I would listen to more of their music, not because I love it, more to hear if they have more variety and range than on Only By the Night. Comme ci comme ça
More fun and atmospheric than I expected
Can't stand the way he whines, still decent songwriting
So so many albums by this band. This one's a catchy one, 3. They must have really great fans among critics though.
prefer their earlier stuff
Previously rated: Youth And Young Manhood (3/5) ************************************ Again, the music was OK, but those affected, torchered sounding vocals. It gets tiring. Best track: Sex on Fire
Closer 3.8 Crawl 3.8 Sex on Fire 3.4 Use Somebody 3.6 Manhattan 3 Revelry 3.1 17 3 Notion 3.1 I Want You 3 Be Somebody 3.2 Cold Desert 3.3 Score 3.3
De bekende liedjes zijn geweldig. De rest is wat meer mainstream / 13 in een dozijn. Leuk album, maar niet heel bijzonder. ***
Such a great album! Only bad thing I can say about it is: it's not especially distinct/sharp. Technically strong, lots of variation, and so head-noddable.
Wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised, 7/10
I love their first album. This one for me is just OK. The guitar and vocals are still great.
It was better than the other two Kings of Leon albums on this list. It didn't drone on and I was familiar with several of the songs. I don't think I would revisit the entire album, but some of the songs are worthy of listening to again. I will round up.
A solid rock n roll album. Perfect amphitheater on a warm day kind of music. I like Caleb's voice a lot - it helps to ground the wall of guitars and keep a touch of the southern flavor of their sound.
It was on the way to something of a modern classic, until, seemingly out of nowhere, Caleb Followill sings about a girl being only 17. Apparently he hides behind the claim that the song takes the voice of some character, but it doesn't help matters that he sounds like the creepiest rock star to ever sing about the subject. And that's saying something. It's too bad, because the hits on here remain absolute bangers.
3.3 - It’s like “Achtung Baby”’s unremarkable nephew, loaded with the same emotional grandstanding, echoey guitar riffs and vocal fry. But what it lacks is the intellectual heft and artistic vision to send these linear arrangements soaring.
I have a strong opinion about this album. The first two KoL albums were awesome. Raw, gritty southern rock. Lightly produced. I’m less familiar with the third, but this one, ugh. It was a break-out album for them, but to me, they jumped the shark. Admittedly, some of the songs pull me in, but the mainstream over-produced quality of this album waters down what could be a classic. 2.9 P.S. “Your sex is on fire”?? Such stupid lyrics.
Paar epische nummers, paar nummers die misschien wat teveel gedraaid zijn, maar ook een wat saaie tweede helft van het album.
I actually didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would. Not a lot of range and the best ones were on the radio ad nauseum already.
I like Kings of Leon so I already knew this album. It's very good, lots of great songs here. The album flows pretty well, though it drags a little at the end. It kind of feels like they stacked the best songs in the front and left the weaker ones for the last few. Not a huge deal though, songs like "Use Somebody" and "Crawl" are so good it more than makes up for it. And "Closer" is one of the best album openers, it builds beautifully and has such a strong vibe. Really good record, though I think I like Ah Ha Shake Heartbreak and Because of the Times a little bit more.
pretty decent lots of songs I didnt know I knew
The '00s selections so far have felt too new to some extent. Listening to this, I can definitely hear some of the influence in returning some different elements to arena rock. Overall, the album is fine.
Muy escuchado
I know people kind of shit on Kings of Leon sometimes, but I don't think it's terrible. It's not anything amazing, but I don't mind listening to this. It's kind of fun, but it can be a bit stale at times.
It's a really inoffensive indie rock album. Nothing really special, a bit commercial rock, but nice enough to listen to it through, though it is not very memorable either.
Decent album, always been something cool about kings of Leon
Pleasant but kind of bland
Seemed fairly bland rock
I liked this in high school. Not so much anymore.
It was alright
Rock alternativo. Un par de megahits. No me ha entusiasmado. Ni fu ni fa.
Good, would never put it on
A pair of hit songs, good to hear some other tracks on this album
Not a huge fan of them, but they are decent. There are a few standout songs like Sex is on Fire and Use Somebody. The rest is pretty bland.
"Only by the Night" is the fourth studio album by American rock band Kings of Leon. Alternative rock, pop rock and Southern Rock. Yep. OK. This album had massive success hitting the top 10 in 10 countries. Critically, it had mixed reviews. Morse code sounds and drums start the opener "Crawl." Guitars come in and the song kicks in. It goes back soft and we get that soft'-loud-soft dynamic. He loves her but she's not into him. The fifth single (yes, 5) "Crawl" opens with eerie guitars, industrial noises and a drum beat. Slashing guitars. This song is driven by the bass and drums. I think it's about the downturn in US socially and globally. Interesting song. "Sex on Fire" was written about lead singers Caleb Followill's model girlfriend. Guitar strings, drums, bass and then a urgent guitar comes in. Catchy chorus. I admit to liking this song when it came out until it was extremely over played. Everyone needs a power ballad. Right? Well, they got one in "Use Somebody." The "oh, oh, oh, oh, oh''s." Slower guitar and the requisite guitar solo. I like "Sex on Fire" better. The third single "Revelry" continues the slower pace. What sounds like electronic drums, slide guitar and a very prominent bass. Caleb regrets partying too much which ended the relationship. This is a pretty good song. The fourth single "Notion" features layered guitars with the guitars and piano driving the chorus and melody. A slide guitar. He wants to go back home but he can't before he apologizes which he's struggling to do. This album is at best OK for me, I guess. There are catchy choruses and the musicianship is solid. I have absolutely no idea why there are two Kings of Leon albums in the top 1,001. But there are and this one was huge commercially. If you like Kings of Leon you probably already have this. If you're debating whether to listen to this, revisit the last few reviews I did and go there.
5/10. Yup, Sex on Fire was part of an album alright
It's pretty shocking to see that this was panned by American critics upon release, especially compared to the favorable reviews in the UK. Perhaps the American critics had prescient visions of Use Somebody and Sex on Fire getting significant airtime in dying department stores in the 2010s. 5/10
Big slice of Americana, sure I loved this more at the time but with distance it feels more like Alan Partridge driving his Rover down the A11 than Hunter S. Thompson driving Route 66.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
ok.
Ik kan me nog herinneren dat ik zeer onder de indruk was van de eerste vier nummers. Inmiddels zijn Sex on Fire en Use Somebody kapot gedraaid en vind ik het tweede deel van de plaat toch een beetje inkakken.
Favorite Songs: Sex on Fire Notion Be Somebody
KoL were definitely heading in a more commercial direction at this point, compared to the other album we received, their debut. Usually, I’m not a fan of bands becoming more radio-friendly, but in this case, they had a bit of room to maneuver, starting as raw sounding as they did. Caleb Followill’s voice is more tempered but still gritty and soulful enough to be interesting. The first few songs are better than the rest of the LP. It’s surprising that the American critics trashed this Tennessee band while the Brit-press and especially the Aussies were crazy about them. Between a 3 and 4 for me.
Throwback classic
Well, I basically asked for this one just to get it over with, so I felt obligated to listen to it. As suspected, it’s a much more enjoyable affair. It at least feels of a piece and I do think “Sex is on Fire” works just fine for what it is. “Use Somebody” is catchy and there were a few others like “Revelry” and the opener that I didn’t mind. They’re a better mainstream alternative band than the southern garage whatever they were trying to be on those other records, and I don’t care if this is a more boring record - it at least has some memorable tunes. That said, I found myself imagine what these songs would sound like with any other singer and came to the conclusion that the answer is basically My Morning Jacket. That band probably could have made this exact same record if they wanted to and it would have been less annoying vocally. So then. Since I willed this one into being I’m going to take a shot at predicting this will, mercifully, be the last Kings of Leon album on this list.
Rock alternativo. Un par de megahits. No me ha entusiasmado. Ni fu ni fa.
Despite being probably their most commercially successful album, musically it's perhaps their low point for me. I had started listening to them just before this came out, and had become a fan of their earlier work. When "Sex on Fire" hit the radio I found myself having to defend them, "but actually they're good if you listen to this other stuff..."
This basically what I know Kings of Leon for: anthemic indie-rock. They nailed that formula on this album. That being said, I think this formula is ultimately pretty hollow in the long term, but during the time it was quite popular. Sort of like indie U2. It’s fine, but I would never put it on deliberately.
Sex On Fire and Use Somebody were almost impossible to escape growing up, and they are a big one-two. This band is actually a lot more mellow than their singles might suggest. I Want You is a surprising tune. Cold Desert is the closer on this album that I think it deserves. This one is right on the cusp for me. the middle is largely overshadowed by the singles but I think the whole thing is sonically complete.
I've never been a fan of Sex on Fire or Use Somebody, the two songs on here that I've heard before. I actually liked most of the other songs better than these two. Musically it's good, but I don't care for the singer's vocal style. It sounds like he is singing with a mouthful of marbles. 3 stars.
3-4 stars - couple of bangers but not my fave kings of leon
Not as good as I remember
2000s rock classic, Sex on Fire though has been played way too much these past 15 years
One long track with gaps. Couple of songs rise above the rest but overall, for me, just missing spark.
Rock
Wasn’t a fan. Not of the album in particular, just Kings of Leon in general. The kind of music my dad would listen to a lot back when I was younger. Couple ok songs, but I’m just not into it. 5/10 Top 3: 1. Use Somebody 2. Sex on Fire 3. Closer
ору с чела в ревью, который сказал, что это идеально для стоматологического кабинета. в целом норм, но особо не цепляет (но есть приколы в звучках, так что 3, а не 2)
Crikey another on the list from this band coming only a few days since the last one. This work is later in their career and there had been a change, for the better. A stronger collection of songs that seemed focused on a wider appeal. Maybe this made it more accessible.
interesting sounds and melodies. Soft grunge?
Tja. Het is echt niet slecht hoor. En er staan leuke hits op. Maar verder vind ik het ook niet bijzonder, en ook niet super fijn om naar te luisteren. Dus laten we het in het midden houden.
I'm not sure why I had to listen to this before I died, but it's fine to listen to.
I didn't hate it, but I really didn't like it, either.
So much better than other 3 star albums. But not as classic as the 4 stars. But it's good. But it also all sounds the same. And a bit boring. But still good.
All time favorite
kind of coldplay vibes. nothing bad and sometimes good but nothing super special
This is cool. Or whatever kids say these days that means "cool". Not superlative or cutting edge, but some interesting moments. I didn't mind listening.
I like guitars a lot, but vocals are just as irritating as I remembered
The 3 songs i like on here, i love. Really indifferent about the rest
Kings of Leon are a somewhat restless band. Debuting with a strong southern rock sound, their identity pivoted to a more palatable alternative rock identity. This would fluctuate with their southern rock roots, but their 2008 album Only By The Night would land on poppier alt rock that would end up defining radio rock for the next few years. Two bonafide hit singes, Use Somebody and Sex on Fire, followed by three less notable singles would make Only By The Night their most successful album by a longshot. The singles aren't bad. Use Somebody hones in a sort of U2 stadium rock that I tend not to like, but Sex On Fire has a decent driving force to make up for the things. Oddly enough, it's the less popular singles like Notion and Crawl that I remember more fondly from the radio. Pacing is good, it never sound egregious or obnoxious. It's a perfectly acceptable rock record with a few good tunes to boot.
That’s a weird one. So generic yet very fun. Couple of memorable songs without great parts and a couple of forgettable songs with great bits. 3 stars
Weak 3. The hit single isn't doing this album any favours unfortunately. But when that song is over and done with, there's a decent rock album there. But they do have better albums, if any of them deserves a spot on this list.
3.5 decent
Pretty good :) the songs are a bit static for my taste but the sound is still satisfactory
Better thank I thought it was gonna be with how watered down sex on fire is from the radio
I was suprised this one made the list but alright didnt mind listening to it
Already familiar "Sex on Fire" and "Use Somebody" thanks to radio. Rest of album was good, but not great.
Yeah. Its alright. I've never really understood the appeal of this band. His voice is pleasingly distinctive. Some of it washes over me.3
it’s pretty good but i only gave imperial bedrooms a 4 so it gets a 3 because it’s not as good as imperial bedrooms (which really could’ve been a 5 since i gave f@$&in’ finley QUAYE a 4, i don’t know why, i was feeling generous that day)
Kinda mid
Pretty good
Solid.
This where King of Leon sold their souls to the florida man.
Average. Sex on Fire is good.
Sex On Fire, Notion
Good album
If you fit loads of energy into something the size of a barn, it will be buzzing. You spread that energy over something the size of a stadium, and it may be middling at best. That is what went wrong with the Kings of Leon.
Fully realized 2008 ‘alternative’ radio rock
Yep it’s the Kings of Leon alright
This is excellent stadium rock.
There was a summer that me and a couple of friends did a lot of cruising around in one of the guy's pickup truck. None of us were old enough to buy beer and it was a small town so there wasn't really much else to do but drive around, eat fast food and listen to whatever cassette the truck guy had in his tape deck. I'm sure we listened to more than one album but for whatever reason, the one I remember was Ozzy Osbourne's No More Tears. It wasn't Ozzy's best album but it felt right that summer. Whatever the modern version of that summer is for kids today, this album feels like the modern equivalent, it contains what have to be Kings of Leon's biggest selling singles so far (I'm pretty confident, without looking at the numbers, Mama I'm Coming Home and No More Tears' title track were Ozzy's best sellers, with the help of MTV) and its a well produced, slightly psychedelic, mainstream rock album. Is my comparison a stretch? Quite possibly but my guy tells me I'm right. Anyone own this on cassette?
My first time listening to Kings of Leon. Great sound.
First time hearing the album. Standouts: Sex on Fire, Use Somebody Others: Crawl, Revelry, Notion, 17. 3.5
The opening to Sex on Fire made me physically cringe, so I guess I'm not over that song being everywhere. On the whole, not bad, but also why is this here? Best track: Idk. Cold Desert
First track is a nice intro. Sound not too varied throughout but it's pleasant. Enjoyed the last couple tracks.
This was a pretty good album. "Use Somebody" was one that I didn't know was them. "Closer" was a really good track. The rest is good enough to play the entire album again. However, I can see why these guys never became huge.
Have obviously heard some of the hits, and as a whole liked the album better than expected. However, I can't give this one more than 3/5 because Use Somebody has to be the most dead, dry, aimlessly written song that somehow radio stations still think people want to hear right now. I've been waiting a long time to say my piece about that fucking song and am glad I finally got a chance to do it
Disco de rock suave que, aunque no es malo, no me ha llamado especialmente la atención, quizás por la voz del cantante. Algún tema, muy reconocible. De las últimas hornadas de rock americano
Do I like this version of Kings of Leon better than the cowpunk, idie-Americana version of Youth and Young Manhood? I don't think so. Both have good songs but there's a looseness and lack of pretense with the earlier music that fits my aesthetic better. This is a review of this album and on this album they hit the mark on 3 or 4 tracks which is enough for me to give it 3.5 stars
Le sexe est en feu mais ne le sera jamais autant que celui de Bobby Womack.
Oui ok le sexe est en feu mais à part ça qu'avez vous de concret à nous proposer les rois lions au juste ??
Sigh. I guess it's not that bad but it's just the moment Kings of Leon got bad in my eyes. Sex on Fire is quite a shit song really. Use Somebody is fine but it's hard to enjoy these days as it was so overplayed back in the day.
Not to be vulgar, but sex would be ablaze if I were doing it to "Revelry". Entire house flattened. Everything else was, as I predicted, vanilla.
Closer - 3.5 Crawl - 3 Sex on fire - 2.5 Use somebody - 3 Manhattan - 3.5 Revelry - 4 17 - 3.5 Notion - 2 I want you - 3 Be somebody - 2 Cold desert - 2
B Closer 4 Crawl 3 Sex On Fire 4 Use Somebody 4 Manhattan 3 Revelry 3 17 4 Notion 4 I Want You 3 Be Somebody 3 Cold Desert 3 This was actually much better than I expected. It was pretty close to a 4. 17 was my favorite song.
Really surprised to see this band on here. I remember listening to a few of their songs when I was a kid and never would have painted them as a super influential or well-received band. This is an ok album. Nothing really screams that this is something that would belong on this list. "Use Somebody" was a huge song for a while, and still gets used in shitty TV. This kind of feels like a band that got bastardized by the music industry and Hollywood corporations. It's either that or they got fed up with all that and decided to make music that appealed to the band members instead of the music labels or whatever. This is a solid 3/5
Étonnamment not bad at all. Use somebody et sex on fire très connus sur cet album. J'ai bien aimé la première moitié, mais la 2ème un peu moins.
Fairly boring but some songs were quite good
This is a nicely crafted straight up rock album that is a solid listen, if not super memorable. Fave Songs: Use Somebody, Sex on Fire, Manhattan, Closer
It's a bit pompous and overblown but it also does an epic rock thing that gets pretty catchy. They're no guns and roses but it's still a 3/5.
This album had it’s moment and is still a good listen.
Maybe a 4.
It starts strong with the hits, but I think it loses steam by the end. This was when they began to sell out.
This was everywhere back in '08 and still holds up now as a decent play. Pretty good crossover rock album with some big singles. It does sound same-y at some points, but the music doesn't overstay its welcome.
mehhh
It has the important big hits, but is a bit too waily in a U2 style. Nonetheless not bad.
Kind of departed from the swamp rock into some almost Springsteen territory. I liked it but like the previous entry from this band found it a little middle-of-the-road alt-rock.
Started out promising - the first two tracks (Closer and Crawl) had a pretty cool sound. But then the rest of the album (including the "hits" that I'd never heard) got pretty generic 2000s-rock. Not bad or anything, just nothing I'd seek out again. It's removed from the 1001 albums books now, which was a good choice.
Meh. Some good songs but did not grab me and scream "Greatness!!".
ovo nisam čuo pun kurac, vratilo bi me u srednju, početak.
4/11, 36%
This album had 4-star potential…if only the vocals had been sung like a normal person. One star deduction for general whininess. Another one star deduction for constantly turning 1-syllable words into 2-, 3-, even 5-syllable words.
Third Kings of Leon album. Quite liked the other two, this one tries to be a bit too stadium. There may be some correlation between being able to understand the singer, and the quality of the music. I could understand the lyrics quite well on this one.
I realize a 2-star is a bit harsh, but I just can't get through a full album of this band. There are some great musical spots, and I hear what it is about the vocalist that captivates. BUT, he gets real old real fast. If he were to explore his vocal snap, aching authenticness once or twice in the course of the record, maybe. But god damn, it never stops. And then everything started to sound like it was designed to evoke an emotion — premeditated and self-aware and yeah, I guess a 2-star is really where I am with this after all.
This is a band with good chops but also no imagination. Also, I don't care for the singer. We definitely don't need three KoL albums on this list. Not even sure if we need one. Also, I hate their fucking name.
I knew the name of the band but really never heard anything by them. Kinda remember they were pretty hyped in the mid 2000s. I don't get it. Boring.
A cautionary tale and a modern tragedy.
I missed this band moment.
What again? How much do we really care about these dudes?
Very not me. I just find the lead singer's voice super-annoying.
This does absolutely nothing for me.
Had a moment of nostalgia, then was like “oh, what I remember is not really liking this.” Was too embarrassed to play out loud in the park with Nico.
its just your average pop album
They have another on this list?! The radio hits are fun. But like... come on.
Meh
The Southern Strokes jumped the shark and became REO Speedwagon with this outing. It took Bono 20 years to become a banal lyricist of the highest order. These guys made it in just over 5. If you write about nothing but sing it to the rafters maybe no one will notice - in fact people might even sing along - which they did. So what the hell do I know.
i don’t get what is gained listening to this full album versus hearing the big hits. anyone who was alive and had access to a radio anytime after 2005 knows these songs. album is okay
CHOM/10
Muy melancólico. Huele a smegma y a un "no te puto pilles". Muy de su época, supongo.
not three kings of leon albums 😭😭😭
Pretty bland, obviously a couple of big radio hits on here but nothing got me particularly excited
This sex is on firrrrrrreeee! That’s a good song, but the rest is just lesser versions of that.
no
