Reviews (page 5 of 8)

Album is sorta split in half by instrumental and electronic sounds only, and some with rock/ metal vocals. I only cared for the first kind since they were kinda relaxing. This has a very contemporary sound given that it's fifty years old. 5/10

The album starts off as basically just a bunch of musical arrangement,s no lyrics just sounds and instruments. Though this is good for something like reading or studying i'm more of a lyrical music guy. With that being said the album was very mid in my opinion, it wasn't bad per say just not something I would find myself listening to a ton.

I enjoyed the instrumental work at the beginning.

I find that I like a lot of the weird electronica on this list. No exception here. Not amazing but I had a good time with it. 3.5/5

Like an album of two half’s that I’m still not sure on

First time hearing. It was alright, I liked the different feels of the 2nd half.

Fine. Half is meh. The other half is fine.

An album of two half’s. First half is relaxed, almost reminiscent of Vangelis. Fleetwood Mac or Thomas Newman. The second half is when the singing starts and detracts from the quality in the first. A nice sounding album when instrumental!

What a bizarre album. The first three tracks sounded like Minecraft music and nearly put me to sleep. Seriously, I was driving at night and had to put on something else because I was getting drowsy! The fourth track sounded much more like what I've come to expect from "kraut rock." I thought it was actually kind of good even though the vocals were pretty grating. The fifth track was back to instrumentals but now a little more upbeat. And the sixth felt like a mashup of it all. Overall, it's fine but probably something I'll never return to and really begs the question: why is this on the list?

It was meandering and indecisive, until the German Jonny Rotten came in on 'Hero' and rescued the day!

Day 61 First listen- I really enjoyed the instrumental tracks especially Isi. As the album progressed, I also enjoyed the heavier elements in the later tracks. Right now, I am giving this album a 3.5/5 but might go higher up if i listen again.

# Album Name: Neu!75 # Artist: Neu # Rating: 3/5 # Comments: Alright. Its not too bad. Nothing stood out though. # Top Tunes: # Would I listen to it again? Maybe

This was pleasantly surprising, actually. It was my first listen of Krautrock, and I was not disappointed. For being such an old album, I would have thought that it was released only a couple of years ago. One thing that bothered me was the faux-ambience that they had at the end of each track that kept dragging on. All in all, not a bad listen, makes for good background music.

me gustó, algo nuevo para mí aunque para el final, no se si todo el album o solo la última canción de me hizo muy repetitiva, por lo que vi el género es así, pero en todo caso es mucho casi 5 minutos de canción

Yeah this one’s pretty interesting. I didn’t finish the Kraftwerk album so I was surprised when these guys were from Kraftwerk. Good vibes, except when buddy was screaming in gibberish like Mick Jagger, I think that song was Hero. Maybe I’ll like that more on the 2nd listen.

Hmmm ... didn't love it didn't hate it ... not sure I was prepared or in the mood for it ... but it is good!

After Eight is not great, but the rest is better than expected.

Pretty chill vibes, enjoyable enough, but I wanted some lyrics

That was some kraut-y krautrock. It was very solid. I honestly don't have much to say about it which feels like an insult.. but it's not? It was very pleasant when it was on. I listened to it twice through and almost a third time because it just looped back around and I lost of track of where I was. It's just nice hypnotic rock music with very long songs that all sorta blend together. I thought it was going to have no vocals but they kick in half way through the album. That was cool. This did not hit near as hard as the other krautrock album we reviewed. The one by Faust. That album was awesome, much more variety. But this album was still solid. I am definitely a krautrock fan based on these 2 albums. I feel like you could put this on in the background of a gathering and it would not get in the way but also just be a nice whitenoise. I'm sure this suggestion will offend the Neu! fans who probably care very deeply about this album. Perhaps I need to dig further into their catalogue, or listen to it louder or on bigger speakers... i dunno. But ya... it's a good album.

Kinda interesting but really out there. Not really my thing

Nice album, firsts song so very Chill, but in hero become more Noisy like song of LZ, Album from people search somenthing more psychedelic

Having one foot in post rock and the other in punk is very brave, but ultimately it works

Interesting.

Never heard about that German band before. It started off rough… with the almost ambient Leb wohl, I nearly gave up. But the second half of the album is way more gripping right from the start, obsessive, even tortured. Suddenly I get what Neu! brought to bands like Joy Division or Killing Joke. I can hear shades of Johnny Rotten or even of The Edge in the guitar landscape, I see industrial wastelands and crumbling walls. I’m fully tripping, even with the coldness and the repetitive edge of the music. In the end, the album takes on a whole new dimension with its two radically different halves, making it a seriously interesting concept piece for 1975. Knowing these guys musical roots (Brit rock, swing, jazz or Pakistani music) make this effort an even better surprise.

It’s good

Seeland is a wonderful song. Rest good too 3/5

I enjoyed listening to this fucking bullshit (not a quality judgment, just trying out new ways to talk about music)

Good! Not my fave neu album but pleasing music nonetheless

Interesting I guess. Feels like something I would actually go and listen to, probably put on at night to relax. Some particularly soothing piano parts + the basically spoken vocals were nice, leb wohl was enjoyable.

I can appreciate how influential this album was, but it's a so-so listen to me. I'd probably like it more if they never sang, but even then it's more of a fun background vibe. Favorite tracks: Isi, Seeland, E. Musik.

I did not use a private Spotify session for this one. I like CAN, so I can get into this. I did enjoy the instrumental tracks more than the ones with vocals.

It goes to interesting places. When it focuses on electronica, it works well.

Quite a contrast between sides A and B. First side is more clean, focus and "Germanic". Second side - spiky and punky. Worth a listen.

Enjoyed. Liked the mellow groove.

hero == sex pistols.

It was chill and had psychedelic vibes, but I thought a lot of the songs were very long and repetItive. Can appreciate that they were a cornerstone for their genre though 🤝🏼

Didn't know anything about this when I put to on. Very nice, kind of electronic synth, really atmospheric but then suddenly goes punk with Hero. After Eight was probably the standout for me. I could imagine Bowie liking this.

Enjoyed this more than I thought I would, cool story around the albums and band too.

When I read that this was krautrock I expected something kind of loud/abrasive, but that was the completely wrong expectation. This is like guitar/synth ambient music. It could easily play in a Yoga class. OK, wait, the back half of the album sounds different, starting with "Hero" -- faster, louder, a bit punk.

Sounds of the ocean and rain and the occasional nonverbal vocalization gives shades of Sigur Ros crossed with a spa soundtrack until punk vibes kick in on the 2nd half. So felt like 2 totally different albums, but neither of them was bad.

Quite atmospheric

ok. Hero was kind of Strokes-y. 3.5

I liked NEU! 75 more than i thought i would have. I initially thought that this was gonna be another pop-rock album but this one is more of a krautrock album but without a lot of the quirkiness of the other krautrock albums i have heard. In all honesty though, that actually makes this one more enjoyable. This album still felt pretty relaxing to hear and really did feel like perfect background music. But that is where the issue lies, it is mostly just background music. The issue with it being background music is it makes the songs all feel rather unmemorable with some i have easily forgotten. Even so, i did not hate my time with this album at all. Best Song: Seeland Worst Song: E-Musik

Can definitely hear the influence they had on later bands this band I’m not so big into

Music way ahead of its time. NEU! sounds like something out of ambient/alternative 21st century music not the 20th century. I've only recently realized I'm a bit of a Krautrock fan. Notwist being my favourite.

This appealed in some ways but also washed over me without leaving a massive inpression. I enjoyed the scope and the space in this. The introduction of vocals actually brought it down a bit to mediocre pop. Hints of eno and classical and 80's vibes

Has some strong moments. Good production. Gets repetitive in the second half. Most songs also have kind of a pointless, really long outro, seems like filler. Would listen to it again.

Yeah, I liked this. Probably wouldn't listen again tho

Not bad at all

tava botando maior fé por causa das duas primeiras músicas e depois o negócio desandou.... tinha potencial....

I'll probably have to give this album a couple of tries before I "get" it. It wouldn't be the first time. It took me 4 or 5 listens to get into Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven, but now it is easily one of my favorite albums of all time and my comfort album of choice. It wasn't exactly the type of album I would usually listen or enjoy (as I usually prefer something more energetic), but the more I listened to it, the more I got enthralled by the atmosphere, and I think this album might be similar. I feel like there's so much beauty and soul here, no matter how chiché this might sound. This album was made to pursue a very specific vibe, and if you're in the correct mood for it, it could be completely mind blowing. But on my first listen, although I enjoyed it, I can't say it was all that impressive. 7/10

Mostly nice, meditative Krautrock. Liked Neu anyway, liked this album. Very clean drumming. Leb' Wohl reminded me a bit of Popol Vuh, but Heroes was sloppy post-punk, a real departure from the type of music I know them for. E Musik brought it back for me, especially the drumming again. Finally After Eight was again disappointing. Overall good, but not my favourite from Neu.

Somewhat ok rock

this was weird, but I kind of enjoyed it.

Atmospheric and chill, but the album starts way stronger than it manages to finish

Incredibly chill, meditation chill. But apparently also a rock album? Weird

Isi // Hero // 2.5/5

6/10. While I don't doubt the ingenuity of this album, it's not for me. Perhaps I just listened to it at the wrong time. Anyway, I wish that Amon Düül II's "Yeti" were in "1,001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die".

I have never heard of this group, but judging by the imagery associated with it, and the fact that the album has 6 songs and the shortest is almost 5 minutes long, I'm very interested! The first song starts of... not the way I was expecting it to! This is very soothing, not the experimental stuff I was expecting. i just finished said song, and if the whole album is just this, then I might be underwhelmed. Ok, listening while knowing what to expect, I'm kinda digging this second track. It's a nice instrumental to have on. This third track feels kind of monomental. It is perfect in setting the mood, the wave sounds work great and the addition of vocals give a great result. Hero is definitely a mood changer! It immediately feels like a more straight-foward song. It has lyrics, and the instrumentals are more in line with a rock song. Hoever, I feel like the elements that set this record apart so far are missing here, as it feels like a song that any other group could have made. I do have to say though, the longer on it goes, the more I like it. Love the growly vocals. I like E-Musik too! It's nice! But the last third feels like the drawn-out ending to a completely different song. I'm having a weird experience with this album, as I start off every song not liking it, but somewhere halfway through they get to me. This was the case with the final track. I'm in a weird position. I didn't really dislike anything, but I also wasn't in love with anything. There were a lot of moments here that I loved, but I'm not sure I'll ever have the wish to listen to the whole album again. This is a similar experience as when I first listened to Kraftwerk. Sure, I recognize a lot of value here, and I can see how this was the foundation for what was to come, but I can't help but heavily prefer what came after this. I'm guessing this is a record that opened up the doors for a lot of others to come, which is nice! And if that is the case, then I definitely support its celebration as an important part of music history. But as for my own personal enjoyment, i have to evaluate it for what it is, not for its influence. And as is, I don't where I stand. I'd really need more time and more listens to know how I really feel about this. Anyways, bye for now.

Bizarre record with the first three songs, soothing and pleasant meditative electronic sounds, followed by an abrasive, heart pounding punk-industrial sounds rounded out with primal screaming. It's almost like listening to two separate albums (and artists) and I have to admit, I like both for different reasons, but I don't love it and feel I don't have to hear more. Interesting idea and concept, with some cool stuff going on, probably more so in the first half.

I enjoyed this album and its variety, though I freely admit I'm not sure why it was included. Kraftwerk does a great job showing electronic krautrock in the seventies, so I don't know if Neu! belongs here. Despite my pessimism, the first half of the album is what I'll call soft electronic. It had great flow and was quite pleasant. But the second half of the album is completely different with the driving punk songs--which I felt was an abrasive change, but the fun vibe erased any unease.

Relaxing but missing the lyrics on majority makes me want more

20/05/2025 There was nothing special about this album.

Fairly good ambient music, like great music to have on in the background whilst doing something else to keep your attention, but not much more than that.

That's not my taste in music - But ok

Pretty good as a chill, atmospheric background soundtrack, however as it becomes more rocky towards the end the 'artistic' singing starts to drag it into the foreground in a somewhat unpleasant way. I initially accidentally listened to the wrong album - NEU! instead of NEU! 75. I rated that album 2/5 with the following review: "Oh, this seems like it could be good background music!"... "Wait it's still going on?"... "What the hell am I listening to!?"

Honestly I don’t have many strong feelings about this one. I liked the music for what it was, and appreciated that the album wasn’t super long. That being said the songs were extremely lengthy. I understand the grind, but I am just turned off by a 9 minute song. It’s not that I can’t grapple with it. It’s more that the replayability turns into a question of if I have the time to spare. Because if I replay a song I want to finish it. But 20 minutes for two songs is crazy. Beyond that I can see where other music might have gotten inspiration from this band, but it wasn’t groundbreaking or anything. It felt very modern in a way that surprised me for a 70s album. But then again I don’t feel like it captivated me in any significant way. Pretty mid, but still good background music for work.

Interesting. Felt like 2 albums smushed together, one instrumental and atmospheric and one more pop and traditional. I preferred the first half for sure. One song almost put me to sleep and I liked that.

Instrumental

Euro-electronica

All I know about Neu! is that they’re often grouped together with Can, but I liked this more than the two Can albums I’ve heard so far. They seem to have made prettier and more soothing sounds than their unpunctuated counterparts - except when they decided to go all punk, that is, but they were pretty good at that side of things too.

It was an interesting album, but not very easy to digest.

3.0/5.0: Good

First part is 4, second one is 2. (4+2)/2=3

Is it interesting? Yes. Will I admire it for the rest of my days? Nein. (That’s German)

I like that this sounds cool but also sounds like an early ‘80s workplace training video.

#565. This seems like a very short double album. The first three songs are very distinctly different than the last three. I do believe I like the second half better. 3/5: decent.

NEU! '75 has this constant sense of anticipation, like it’s slowly winding itself up toward some grand moment, but that moment never really comes. There’s definitely atmosphere and mood here, but overall it feels like it’s missing a payoff. A little too meandering to really stick with me.

After The Gold Rush is a tough act to follow, but this didn’t disappoint. A solid 3 stars from me, big fan of these wildly left field albums I found this pleasant enough to work to. None of the songs went too far out there, but they also never really got boring either. Some random punky vocals were mixed in really tastefully throughout the album - they sounded like a Mick Jaegar howl) E-Musik is my favorite track. It gave a really groovy jam band vibe… unexpected. Deep in the mix, there were really fun guitar lines and weird synth textures.

Another Krautrock album! A genre I knew nothing about before this exercise and now can honestly say I'm a fan. Future Days by Can is still one of my favorite new albums from the generator, and I think a better representation of the genre, which I now know so, so much about. Reading that Conny Plank - the producer of this album - also did some work with Can, but that's about the only intersection I can find between the two bands. This is a wild ride - I found it kind of interesting to think of this as one continuous piece with a few movements - such a calm and structured beginning with the first couple of tracks, then devolves into total insanity - sounds like the Stones on acid - like two different bands in the first and second half. In the end though, this was more interesting and good, but not great. The overall album has an arc, but the songs felt a little stagnant - not something I can see myself coming back to as much as I have Can.

This is pretty tame as far as the genre goes, not bad by any means but overall just a bit more mellow than I wanted. Rating: 3.0

It was interesting

It feels like this album just wanders around at times without saying anything too much

Nicht großartig, nicht schrecklich

There were parts of this I really enjoyed, and parts of this I was put to sleep (Leb Wohl especially made me run for another coffee) Every track was distinctive and had an identity. I like the mix of instrumental and vocals. Overall left me with 'Meh'

Like the proto Music for Airport bits more than the ”rockier” parts.

A cool listen. Can be listened to attentively or unattentively, and it still gives a sense of driving progress.

I sure find this entrancing. While I like the earlier stuff more, this holds up pretty well too.. A little more laid back (perhaps sometimes way too laid back). I'm rewarding its good moments.

I’m upset I can’t use my joke about this being sauerkraut rock. It wasn’t a sour experience at all. Nothing earth-shattering but perfectly fine as background music.

This was enjoyable. I don't have much to say beyond that.

Very atmospheric "rock", good for a rainy morning at the office

Thoughts before listening: There sure is a lot of krautrock on this list. Neu is one I've heard of but don't really know much about. Review: Apparently this is some of the guys from Kraftwerk. I like this better than their main gig I think. The songs can get a little long and repetitive, but once you know to expect that there's some real gems to dig into here. 3-stars

Not for me. Honestly found it to be pretty stale overall.

It was ok as background music while I worked.

Hero, E-Musik, and After Eight were ok on this album, they had a simple repetition that I kind of liked, might be good to have on in the background while working and not concentrating on it. The beginning of this album felt very ambient and minimalist to me and then picked up quite a bit. There's kind of a punk feel to the distortion and tempo in a bunch of these songs that I didn't mind plus electronic wind sounds and backmasking voices with flangers

с немецкими названиями ожидаешь либо рамштайн, либо техно, либо Вагнера. этот приятный мелодичный)

Innocuous

The start was really calming, but the songs with lyrics were not it (3)

Good stuff. I'm not too familiar with Kraut Rock but I did detect some Kraftwerk vives in there. Fun album.

I like it and glad I found it

Another where I had no idea what to expect. This album is very sound-scapey but I liked it. There are parts that are very peaceful and songs that are a little more upbeat, but as a whole it’s very calm and ambient. Almost no lyrics. Not something I would listen to all the time, but I enjoyed it.

Listened to this twice and it really grew on me the second time. The first track sounds very modern and sounded like and intro to something like a "War On Drugs" song. I can't help feeling something is missing, like this is the start before vocals are added. Was a cool album mainly since it was made already 1975. Not my favourite but I'm impressed by how modern it still sounds.

If it was just music, no lyrics, this album would get 4 ⭐s....unfortunately the "singing' is just not great

Instrumentals are pretty decent. Loses a star for the tracks where they let that guy sing.

Meh it was alright. Like other Krautrock more but I still enjoyed it. Seems more like looking at building blocks than the finished product Rating: 3.3

The instrumental parts were good! Not massively enjoyable vocals.

first half was better, preferred the slower ambient. would've been a 3.5 if it was all that but 3 is fine

I liked this. Nostalgic and some of the tracks were lovely. Rating: 3

This really felt like two albums. The first three tracks are mellow background, then the second three turn it up. If felt like this album was a producer and competent vocalist away from being a solid four star effort. As it is, there are some interesting ideas and some throw-aways.

Overall I really like this. I didn’t know what to expect, and was pleasantly surprised - especially by the first three tracks. The fourth and sixth songs must be some kind of a PRE-post-punk songs - although I can hear some Stooges in there also. E-Musik was too long and repetitive though.

Interesting, but largely forgettable, I'm afraid.

Favourite tracks: ISI, Hero, E-Musik Kind of indifferent about this one. Had good range, and instrumentals are great. But probably won't come back to it.

This was very calming. I almost fell asleep to it.

This seems very bland and really missing something. The first 3 tracks are pleasant, and the album speeds up a bit after that. Never really does much for me though.

Puh, schwierig. Hallogallo und Negativland waren gut. Rest sehr experimentell.

Elevator music but the good kind

I was really enjoying this album at first. It was all instrumental but it was fun and enjoyable to have going in the background, even found myself dancing to Leb Wohl and Hero. But then it just kind of fell off and got boring with E-Musik. I really thought that song was building to something but no crescendo happened. After Eight wasn't bad but didn't seem to fit on the rest of the album, it seemed much more punk rocky then the rest of a chill calm album. If it had stayed on the original path I could have gone to a 4 but the way it ended gotta go with a 3.

A mix of instrumental and krautrock, a perfectly good album for doing what I was doing which was getting a mechanical massage.

I listened to this at work, which was definitely the right call. It's good work music, upbeat but not intense, varied enough to keep me engaged, but not so clever as to intrude on the clever work thoughts that take precedence over it. At the same time, the genre it belongs to would be most-accurately described as Muzak or Elevator Music. It is inspired Muzak, yes, but Muzak nonetheless. If they put this on while waiting for my Liberty Mutual representative to pick up the phone, I would say "what nice call waiting music they have". If I listened to at work I would say "what nice background music this is". But there's a limit to how far that can take you.

Elevator music with a snap.

Kraut rock! Real interesting and you can see where the pistols got the inspiration on that one song.

Immediately caught my ear. I feel like this is also engineered for the nihilist crowd and empathetic art collectives. Not sure what the Venn diagram looks like, but anyways, generally liked this.

First track wasn't great but the next few tracks were amazing. Then some guy started making noises and it killed me

Finding great stuff recently that I probably never would have found otherwise!

Favorite Track: E-Musik

Interesting band with great instrumental work. Can't fit this into a single genre. Sounds original.

Very nice sound well constructed

Krautrock you say? Learn something new every day.

Nice listen, different vibes, overall just a fun little album.

No es mi favorito hasta el momento, siento que se le notan los años.

Not my type of music. It ain't bad but not my wheelhouse

It's a really solid vibey rock album. The form reminds me a lot of Kraftwork's Autobahn. These kinds of albums usually have a really low ceiling for me, like you won't often find me giving them a 5/5, but as long as the music isn't bad, they're generally really enjoyable! And that's where this one falls for me. It's not great, but good and very solid. Favorite Song(s): Isi

70s space rock, I prefer the other album by them

Chug-a-lug music never really been a big thing for me, people will either find it energising and psychedelic or monotonous and boring. Hero is a standout but it leans more to the latter. Perhaps one of those albums that was revolutionary at the time for pushing the boundaries of rock structure and inspiring the move into punk, but now it feels a little repetitive and German.

I was dreading it but its quite good.

Chill, kind of great thinking music. Hear a lot of modern music in this album. 3/5

Regarding music I like, it’s a 2; but I think it deserves a 3. OK for background music but I likely wouldn’t listen to this again.

Never heard of them before. Very chill, almost ambient. Interesting. Playlist material.

There must have been a lot of bands in the late 1970s and early 1980s that listened to this album. It isn't my favorite, but I can hear where this might have had a greater influence than I'm expecting it to have.

Starting out, the album is ethereal, yet plain. The second half is like a whole different band.

I enjoyed it.

I guess krautrock isn’t what I expected. This turned out to be mostly inoffensive ambient music with a little bit of rock flavor

Some interesting numbers

The flow of this is very cool. It's neat that this is mellow for a whole half before getting into it, going against the idea of frontloading. Then it does a micro version of the same with the long track trailing off before picking it up in a punk thing. Pretty cool! Unfortunately for a 2024 listener it's not all that novel so I start thinking of Can or whatever and get distracted. sorry Neu! the most rounded down to 3 something can get. just barely misses reaching that 'yeah I'll definitely listen again soon' mark.

First half was very boring. But from 'Hero' onwards, it's great.

Best Song: E-Musik. There's a kind of relaxed rodeo vibe to this that kind of works. Something about that chugge-chugga ends up worming itself into your bones, turning would could have been an annoying song into a groove. Worst Song: Hero. I thought that the first half of the album was so sparse as to be almost absent until I heard the man sing and I realized that it was much better sparse. The album should have been wholly instrumental. Overall: An album that is only as good as it is quiet. Every attempt it makes at making noise or causing a ruckus comes off gritty and a bit annoying, but the calmer instrumentals are really enjoyable.

Pretty groovy. Didn't feel overly special. But a nice listen all around.

Áhugavert m.v. ártalið.

Pretty cool, hero brought needed energy

Some nice ambient stuff and then some less enjoyable weird stuff. Pretty good though

This is more my vibe, though I think I prefer Harmonia.

Pretty good ambient stuff, sounds like it was quite ahead of it’s time.

This made me think of a German U2 with fewer lyrics. It was like eating celery-not good, not bad.

I have a soft spot for 70s synths. This is sure pretty when it wants to be. Aggressive and fun when it wants to be. 8/10 Exactly what I imagine when I think of kraut rock

I actually really like this band. The songs are all a bit too long, constantly my criticism of electronic music.

C’est comme Full Metal Jacket: ça part super bien, pis arriver vers le milieu tout prend le bord

Respectable

Pretty good, I like it. Not sure what Leb Wohl was, but otherwise it didn’t even sound too dated.

Exactly the sort of album I’m hear to find! Feels really forward thinking and way ahead of its time. There are tracks on this I’ll listen to again, and tracks I’ll happily not. But really appreciate the album! 3.2

ta buena la idea pero es denso d escuchar no se

Weird! But good.

Interesting, but krautrock ain't for me.

#28 - I expected little when I saw the tag krautrock but the first half of the album positively impressed me. The second half I didn't love as much, due to the annoying vocals that do not add much to anything.

This is pretty cool by my standards. This must have been seriously groundbreaking since it sounds like it could have come out new today. These krauts were way ahead of their time. I’m going to revel in this one a few more times.

A pretty light and engaging first half followed by a more repetitive second half. An interesting fusion of electronic music with rock/punk. Best song: Isi

sounds like very early post-rock (although this is apparently considered krautrock). interesting for sure

Didn't really vibe with me all that much, but didn't have any issues with it either

The ambient is lovely. HATED when they sang.

Day 17 of listen to 1001 albums, one day at a time. This album is long, a bit longer than it needed to be. It’s interesting on the second half but enough to truly make this album amazing. It’s alright, it’s fine. I get was 1975 and electronic music wasn’t anything insane but I do wish this album was just like 10 minutes shorter. It drags and so moments are just boring. Like I said it’s fine.

I wouldn't have guessed that this was released in 1975!

It's fine I guess not something I'd likely put on again but it didn't hurt my ears.

Well, that was an experience. Not sure it's made me a fan of krautrock...

Nog beluisteren

Interesting electronic elements in it, and with a nice drive. The inspiration to many of the early new wave bands of late 70s and early 80s is obvious

like it but not that exiting

te veel easy listening in het begin... en als het begint te beteren, is plaat gedaan

The first half of the album is pretty pedestrian. When they kick it up with Hero, the album is redeemed a little bit. Nothing groundbreaking here for the though.

3.6 - Pretty good as far as "rock muzak" goes, especially when it delves into deeper ambient territory (e.g., last couple minutes on "E-Musik"). Mostly this sounds like the type of non-distracting, vaguely futuristic background music for a planetarium.

5/10 This has some music. I was not disgusted. I like the square beats and the repeating motifs. Any influence this may have had is so far back in the dialectic that I can't see it from here. I didn't fall asleep, so... 4/16/2024

I liked this, definitely more of an ambient album. Another album that I wish I could rate half stars: want to give it more but can’t quite give it a 4.. glad to have it on the list but somewhat forgettable within the scope of the 1001-album challenge. 3.5/5

I have not heard of this band or genre before. I found the sound pretty interesting but it isn’t my favorite. However, I did like the songs: Leb’ wohl and Hero for its instrumental. I don’t think I’d listen again but I’ll definitely remember them.

Don't really know how I feel about this one. Some of the songs grew on me but it was an odd mix: First half meditation music, second half punk.

Well, the second part didn't fit to the first one. One can see, that each part was written by one of the two members. I enjoyed the first part more, but it wasn't up to my expectations as I compared it with Kraftwerk. I can see why the second part was a blueprint for the future punk music, but the tracks are too long.

This album does take a turn, doesn't it? Side A and B are not the same thing. Although Side B was perhaps more "interesting," I enjoyed listening to Side A more. I found it to be fairly timeless, if not exciting, music, while Side B was a little more tiresomely experimentally 70s.

Enjoyable enough

This was mostly background music to me.

Ok, but not standout.

Interesting "kraftwerkian" concepts. Something more modern than Kraftwerk, and for 1975 music it was something.

Neu? Drei! I enjoyed it.

Det her er weird men det fenger jo jævlig også

I like this album. It's like Kraftwerk with a heart, or Bowie's instrumentals on Low with more direction and structure. It won't change your life or your ears, but it's good enough listening.

This is a cool record. Sounds really modern to my 39-year-old ears. Kinda shoe-gazery. Not the best thing ever, but quality. Favourite tracks: Isi, Seeland, Leb Wohl, E-Musik.

This was an interesting one. Maybe with a few more listens it could be a 4. Good album for my train ride.

You can hear the strings of rock to come in this relatively obscure one.

Didn’t mind this

I've been enjoying Krautrock from bands like Radiohead and KGLW so I was pretty excited to listen to one of the bands that were part of the Krautrock scene of the 70s. I found the opening track a little boring honestly. Second song was also a bit slow and chill but it got a little more interesting toward the end. In Hero the music started getting more interesting and I was enjoying it quite a bit but I wasn't a fan of the singing haha. It was kind of comical. It's interesting that they end each of their songs with ambient noise. I had to go to youtube to listen to the last song on the album which might have been the best one on the album.

Super fun and vibey. It felt like a movie soundtrack in the best kind of way. Hero felt so punk rock. The 70s were just so rad. I love that this was just happening for no reason.

Really cool instrumental tracks to get lost to that make you wish the whole album was instrumental

I think I can get behind this kind of elevator muzak.

Interesting enough.

Ok album, I was a bit disappointed because I really dig "NEU!" from 1972

No objection. Fine background music.

Very fitting with the title, this album felt very “neu” to me. This one was a surprise in the beginning, I really enjoyed the first couple tracks, but then it lost me in the second half. I think it could have been better had the whole thing been like the first half. For that, it gets a high 3 stars. 7/10 Top 3: 1. ISI 2. Leb’wohl 3. Seeland

Whoa this is maybe too chill to be a 4... Oh oh lawd what happened. Is this a 2? 3 it is

It's an interesting album. Not nearly as experimental as I expected, but of course that may not have been the case in 1975. Overall a nice listenable album. great background music for studying or working.

Schizophrenic album, purposely, with basically two independent EPs jammed onto the one album. Interesting but I will say I enjoyed the second half more.

I liked it. Nice background music with energy

I always think of electronica as being from the 90s onwards, so it’s always surprising when I see earlier artists listed as electronic. It was previously the case with Kraftwerk, whom I ended up rushing out to purchase vinyls of. So who knows, maybe Neu! Will blow me away! Songs I already knew: none Favourites: Isi This album started off very strong. I love the opening track and it set me up with high expectations. However, although the rest of the album is still good, it definitely peaked at the start. This is rockier than I expected, with plenty of guitar playing and some occasional shouty vocals. It is definitely a good album, but that first track made me want better.

Interesting but not that much

Þetta var bara allt í lagi. Mjög fín bakgrunnstónlist þótt ég sé ólíklegur til að hlusta á þetta aftur. Ekkert að þessu, ég hef bara ekki hugmynd um hvenær ég myndi nokkurn tímann muna eftir þessu.

This is more interesting to me than it is something I actively enjoy. It starts off quite chill, with some interesting soundscapes mixed in and then it builds into this kind of relentlessly upbeat thing, which all feels a bit samey and repetitive. I think I would enjoy the songs more individually, but a whole album in one go is a bit much. 2.5 rounded up.

Not a lot to go on here. Certainly important to remember the decade this came out, so as to get an idea of how ground breaking it was. However, now it is just this post-punk showgaze that while not bad is also not much to digest. I think it stands up as a casual listen, but lacks any lasting relevancy.

Mostly electronic mellow instrumentals fitting for nap time. The two songs that do have vocals have a prehistoric punk rock type of sound. Weird

Like a Punk band opened a spa

Quite enjoyed this. It’s not like any other music I know from the 70s

It’s alright

The right time and mood this a very good listen, especially the first more ambient half. I think the debut album is a bit stronger and more cohesive. I think this a solid 3.5.

Fine. Nothing really stuck out to me about this record.

I have no opinion on this album. I listened to it and I don't remember much of anything. I guess it's ... fine? It's fine.

A little repetitive. But I can tell it's influence other bands throughout.

Was nice to listen to in the background whilst running. Can also imagine it'd be good for falling asleep to.

Not bad, i guess

I liked it some, some of the songs were were, I was a high school senior when this album came out! 3 stars

Sonidos interesantes y agradable para tenerlo puesto de fondo, pero la sensación es de álbum incompleto.

First few were alright but it went downhill fast.

very ambient sometimes, decent overall

hát kemény elalszok bazdmeg, de ez jó

I didn't realize that Rother and Dinger were so at odds that they decided to split the album. Why make an album at all together in that case? But the sounds really work together despite that. The ambiance of Rother's side prepare you somehow for the raucous jam that happens when "Hero" starts. I was definitely gravitating most toward side two, but the whole thing was a good listen, a surprisingly easy listen compared to what I was expecting.

Listened to a few songs but was not my cup of tea

I liked this more than I expected, especially the first half. Not sure how often I'll come back to it, but good to know it's out there if the mood strikes.

kinda interesting but forgettable

I've not listened to Neu before (nor have I ever even heard of krautrock). I enjoyed the album ... most of the songs are instrumentals, and where there are lyrics they are pretty spare. I typically don't go for that, but Neu's music was, for the 70's, fresh. I'm just unsure of its relevance today.

I liked some of the slower, proggier sections. This album was a little dull at parts however. Fun stuff for the mid 70s.

Was an interesting listen, some good sounds But unsure of the overall idea

ISI - 7/10 Seeland - 7/10 Leb’wohl - 7/10 Hero - 8/10 E-musik - 8/10 After Eight - 8/10 TOTAL - 45/60

Another so-so installment. Side A is atmospheric space rock and pleasant to listen to. Side B is some early post-punk and rather influential I presume. Still only a 3 as nothing blows you away and I'm not sure I appreciate the contrast

Good sound, not what I usually like or listen to but good

if I was stoned I would totally like the first half of this. the second part just gets repetitive

75! out of 100! Cool sounds and easy listening.

It was fine but a bit boring.

Trochu jako KGLW, ale na mě trochu víc elektrický

Woah this was quite fun! Apparently both of these guys were in the Kraftwerk lineup at some point and I can really hear that. I also read someone describe it as deconstructed rock music. I really enjoyed the more ambient sections and the heavier moments less so but it was a really interesting and exciting album which I had never heard any of previously.

Pretty good. Not something I'd rush back to but definitely enjoyed it

Pretty good, preferred the more chilled electronica in the first part of the album

Fun bookend songs but very repetitive in the middle. I like it more than Kraftwerk but not by a whole lot.

For a casual listen it's probably going to be a no for me, at least for now, because I do believe that this is music that will grow on you. However, this album is definitely a yes as it comes to study music or while lounging and reading a book or something. It's good music and will definitely look more into NEU! To get more familiar with their work

The start of this album is pretty different to a lot of other albums, it had some chill instrumental tracks that were just fun to listen to. The rest of the album had a completely different style, it feels like the tracks should be on two different albums. The songs on this album aren't nessicarily bad they just don't gel together with the first half and the second half of the album being so different. I'd say I enjoyed both halfs of the album tho I just don't see the artists vision for why it was composed the way it was.

Ya not bad. Less noisy than the other krautrock album Ive listened to Makes me wonder what the genre even is

Krautrock. Ni fu ni fa.

I felt obligated to rate this higher because of the clout that Neu! generates in the critical space, but this one kinda put me to sleep. Idk, very vibey and spacey which is cool, but I need a little more energy out of my krautrock. Just not really my favorite, but certainly cool and worth the listen

I mostly appreciated how much of the groundwork of many of my favorite genres was laid down on this record, but was generally pretty fine with this album. It had a great vibe but didn’t really grab me in the way I was hoping. Still a fun listen, this is a very strong 3 from me.

This was very reminiscent of Kraftwerk, and I have very similar opinions on both in that I'm very indifferent to them. Kraftwerk is slightly more interesting but both just feel like cutting edge 70s projects that other innovations in electronic and rock music have left behind. This album in particular sounds like a very prototypical version of 2000s radiohead where the building blocks are there but it hasn't been developed enough. I'm sure this was highly influential to German dance music or something in the same way Kraftwerk practically invented electronic/computer rock but I don't think it really holds up anymore. However, this made me go back and listen to man machine which I think I have a better appreciation for now; feels like the progenitor to all of 80s synth wave. Really liked the model off that album.

hero топ, остальное хз

J'ai l'impression de me trouver dans un film des années 80 – ce n'est pas désagréable du tout!

different. mostly instrumental tunes. honestly, most of it was very relaxing, almost to the point of being hypnotic.

Nice background music. Just another “Why do I have to listen to it before I die”, though.

Interesting, not amazing. Had seen the cover before and expected more straight ahead krautrock rather than the folkier stuff it opened with.

Beautiful, long rock songs that would be perfect to listen to on a road trip. “Seeland” has that ‘driving through the country’ feel to it. The vocals on “Hero” are wild. I love the contrast between the soaring music and the crude wail of the singing.

I've been thinking a lot very recently about velocity in music and dynamics and tempi in music. For me I rarely write something that is thought of as a "fast" tempo but with "soft" velocities / dynamics. Almost like the two are inherently correlated and it's mandatory for them to match eachother. But it's not the case at all... you can have some softer parts and play them fast. Conversely, you can have harder parts and play them slower. This band does that right out of the gate, and it's a little weird to me but I like it. "Isi" sounds like a soundscape, like a track you would hear while watching the "TV Guide" channel late at night. It's got that Peanuts Christmas Piano sound but also, surprisingly- double bass drums? But the double bass is incredibly softly played (and recorded)? I love it. Very different. I enjoyed the meditative "Seeland". I liked the album. 3/5

Really enjoyed the first half as was falling asleep. Second half kept me awake.

Interesting album, relaxing and would fit well in today's charts

An interesting mash of synth and prog. I’m still fairly new to Neu! and didn’t know what to expect, but found myself nodding along to most of this album as it hit some interesting and unexpected grooves. Hate to say it but the instrumentals mostly decimate the tracks with extended vocals, wish the whole thing was pure instrumental flow as that’s where the band seems to find its most inspired songwriting and overall synergy.

really good listen, none of the songs scratched the mental itch for me though.

There’s something here, but I’m not sure what. I waited two days to rate it to see if anything stuck. It hasn’t.

Decent listen, hit and miss. Was good for passing time.

Krautrock. Ni fu ni fa.

Up until the vocals entered the picture this struck me as something like the soundtrack of a Wim Wenders film... which is not at all a criticism or complaint. The vocal component really didn't add anything for me. Rather the opposite. I remain unable to fully get behind the Krautrock.

Cool background music I guess

Better than the other one. But again really long and no words but when he did sing it wasn’t very good

While it is advertised, as a relative of Devo, I found it was an interesting exploration into early electronic music. It was slower building than other artists in the genre. I enjoyed it, though I didn’t find it a new gem.

Really good! I especially love the side 1 tracks. Standouts: Isi, Seeland, Leb' Wohl, Hero. Singles: -------------------- Isi (Failed to chart) 3.5

Beautifully produced with some interesting music concepts. But ultimately a boring listen all the way through, and after the first listen it became sort of a tiresome relisten.

Pleasant surprise! Will add to my ambient options.

This was intriguing. Had no prior knowledge of this music but somehow was surprised by the sound.

Top Three Songs: 1) Leb’ wohl 2) Seeland 3) Isi Bottom Three Songs: 1) E-Musik 2) After Eight 3) Hero

good while working

What the fuck is Krautrock?

The building blocks of krautrock. Abrasive and forgettable.

The first two songs were 4/5. Relaxing atmospheric sounds. The other three songs weren’t bad, I’d give them a 3/5. If I could do half stars I’d give this a 3.5/5

Rating: 6/10 Best songs: After eight

Jeg kan dessverre ikke sammenligne med bestemors vulva, men jeg synes det manglet litt futt. Krysser fingrene for Kraftwerk i fremtiden!
