Reviews (page 4 of 7)

Not the best Bjork I’ve heard but still carried the experience of putting on a Bjork I’ve never heard, and having a good time with it.

Meget følsomt elektronisk pop, masser af stryger og synth, tilpas mærkeligt

Weird, I like it, I don’t like it, I want to like it more. Probably too many oooOOOooos for 58 minutes

Another Björk record. For whatever reason I wasn't feeling this as much as the previous records, maybe because it's slightly newer. Good and enjoyable regardless.

M'ha sorprès, però cap a malament. Pensava que era un altre rollo. Un poc cursi, massa melodia enrevessada. Crec que no ho he entès. Segurament si me pilla en un altre moment i l'escolt amb mes antenció hi trob més interès de lo que he trobat de primeres. Alguna cançó se salva.

I really loved this album when it dropped. I'm not sure it has held up for me as much as I hoped it would.

It was good but I didn't love it tbh, it's surely a unique sound tho, got a bit boring sometimes. I don't mind the weirdness at all and I'm really into experimental, having listened to other records that combine electronic music and classical and I loved them but I think this was just not it

From the I first heard Bjork as a junior in High School, I've never been able to get into a full album. Bjork kind of feels like Terrance Mallik film, where I have to be in the exact mood, watching it in theaters and probably never visiting it again. The art rock, psych elements, electronic orchestration, sad vocals. Its all cool. I get it. I respect the artistry. I get why people like it. It's probably just not for me. To sum it up, here is my most honest and fair review of this album: every song on this record sounds like the one song on every Arcade Fire album that you skip. She sounds like the worst part of one of my favorite bands.

Cinematic score meets forest fairy witch. I've been on an Aurora kick lately who is inspired by Bjork so this was cool

I like Björk but the songs on this album were a little hit or miss for me. I don’t recommend listening to the first 1/4 of the album while sitting in traffic

Haven't björked one in a while. The front half was pretty at times but I think it really opened up in the back half for me. Inconsistent but I really like the parts I like

I’ve never listened to bjork, I can for sure see what she’s going for and really liked some of the songs, maybe if this wasn’t my intro to her music I’d like it better, but just wasn’t super into it

I don't get bjork, I want to, but I can't. Maybe one day I'll go through a psychedelic experience and understand her.

not my cup of tea, but was not bad to listen to

I like it when artists take big risks, even if there is a chance that it won't come off, so I enjoyed her electro/ string arrangements and instrumentally creative choices she made. But, on the other hand, I've never been much of a fan of Bjork because I don't enjoy the sound of her singing voice, so that seemed like an album that was a lot longer than 58 minutes. I am frustrated often by the way she phrases the syllables of her lyrics. It is so disjointing that it often takes me right out of the groove of the song. I respect what she does for the tastes of others, but her music is a certain kind of specific that I struggle to find a place for it in my life. "Human Behavior" from her first album DEBUT continues to be the only song I enjoy enough to keep in my collection.

I'm a fan of Björk's, and as always there are some fine moments on Vulnicura (the palpable tension that runs through Lionsong is exquisite, and the super-raw soul-baring in the lyrics is powerful too). However, like much of her post-90s output, the admirable pursuit of weird, genuinely innovative melodies/song structures/production mean this is often a challenging listen - and not just emotionally.

Particularly enjoyed the instrumentals on this. Struggled with the vocal phrasing, which made listening to it all the way through a bit challenging for me, but I can appreciate the musicianship and can understand why she’s highly rated for her unique style.

Admittedly, this is my third Bjork album this month and I’m getting tad weary of it. She has the ability to create importance in her work. It’s almost theatrical and I love the string arrangements. The trouble is, aside from concentrated listening, I can’t think of the right use case for this music.

I didn't like this as much as the other Bjork album I listened to, but it was still interesting and unique.

Sounds like Bjork

Not her best work but y'know... it's still Björk.

Very stereotypically Björk-y.

I like Björk’s hits. I don’t really wanna listen to a whole album by her.

Cool but not my style

Not Bjork's best work. The orchestration is fantastic. I'm not certain what key the songs are in, but it sounds modal, which is unique these days. The problem is that she seems to sing the same four notes for about an hour; that is, there wasn't enough variance between songs.

Can't get used to newer Bjork

There’s really no reason Vulnicura should be this list, she’s delivered far more inventive and lasting work elsewhere. That said, it’s a nice, emotional listen. The string arrangements are beautiful, and the vulnerability in her voice is hard to miss. But after multiple listens, nothing truly rises above the surface to leave a lasting impression. It’s thoughtful and well-crafted, just not especially memorable.

I think I would like each song individually but the album as a whole doesn't have enough melody for me to enjoy it

Interesting and trippy

I really have tried to enjoy Bjork. And I do enjoy and appreciate many of her songs. But her albums as a whole exhaust me. Brilliant, innovative, but I can't keep them playing. 4.5 for originality. 2.5 for my enjoyment.

didn’t get to listen to it yesterday, since I was working with Cramer. But got to it today. It was beautiful. But long. And probably not what I should have listened to on the exercise bike. The songs were all very pretty. She has a wonderful voice. I’ll never listen to it again. Post and Debut should be on here over this.

This is clearly a deeply personal, brilliant work of musical genius - but probably NOT an easy casual listen for most (while sober, at least..). It feels droning and meandering, and Björk's vocals can feel disjointed and agonizing (no surprise given the circumstances of her life at the time she wrote/recorded it). Next time I'll try copious amounts of drugs and see if anything 'clicks' (?)

è Björk, ma non è inascoltabile

Vähän turhan taiteellista alkaa olla. Poppi-björk on parempi. Kuuntelee silti! 3/5

Bjork just doesn't do it for me. I'm not sure I NEEDED to hear this album before I died.

I love Bjork, and I loved he music - Post, Debut, Homogenic, .... but then the love faded. Sure the albums were intriguing, unique and fascinating....but the enjoyment was lacking. With Vulnicura, the feeling remains. It's still Bjork being Bjork, and the innovation is still there, but .... Yeah...whatever.

I love her debut album. I still like this one, it just doesn’t compare. But it is still her, so a 3.

Yeah, ok

A Björk breakup album. Musical expressionism rather than straight-up songs. Sad, cold vibes. Layers of strings and short vocal phrases swell, growing in tension, passing from emotional breakdown to full panic attack. Sonically interesting but not a world most will want to visit often. 3.5

I love Bjork's artistry, but I personally find it hard to resonate with her music.

Highlight: Stonemilker In a nutshell: the sound of breaking up. One of the magical things about making and listening to music is experiencing incidental catharsis. This album is a good example of it. Björk was in fact going through a break up at time of recording Vulnicura. It was a healing experience for her. The title itself- when translated from Latin to English- explains it all: vulnas (wound) and cura (cure). Therefore "a cure for wounds". The mix of electronic beats and an orchestral arrangement might be off-putting for some. That's Björk's jam. BUT there is an alternate version for those who don't like the breakbeat/glitchy noises. Look for "Vulnicura Strings". It's a challenging listen if you're only used to Post. I didn't mind it but I don't think I'll go back to it in a hurry. Overall: 5/10

Some really cool orchestration and production but I feel like you have to be in a certain mood to listen

Well, at least this is the last Bjork album for me in this collection. It's gotten hard over the past four albums of hers to distinguish between a lot of them (although the earliest stuff and her Sugarcubes album are definitely much less Bjork-sounding than the others), and this album is no exception, despite being the most recent one of the collection. I'm hard-pressed to call out any particular track (except maybe the many-layered "Atom dance"), and even the videos for this album weren't as compelling or otherworldly as earlier albums; "Lionsong" and "Notget" are in some ways the most creative (and pretty wild costumes, plus creepy Alienesque scenery in "Notget"), while "Stonemilker" and "Black lake" seem pretty tame by Bjork standards, although they showcase Iceland's harsh landscape well. Overall, this felt like a soundtrack album more than most of her albums in this album--perhaps a soundtrack to an arthouse film, admittedly. Until I read the extensive Wikipedia entry for this album, I hadn't realized how extensive her work on this album was, nor how many (often VR) videos she'd produced for the tracks, nor how many variations and strings-only versions she released. I suspect those were all manna for her devoted fanbase, but I just couldn't go there. Now that we've overloaded on Bjork in this collection, I just hope that I can reclaim my occasional enjoyment of her music and creative spirit.

Feels like being in a small boat in a big storm. The music is sparse and dark, swelling strings and washed out synths, scattered with bursts of electronic noise, it creates a feeling of a vast windswept encompasing expanse battering and moving you, hinting at but not reveal an abyss below. But the voice is intimate and intense - itself highly manipulated and textured, filtered through effects to distort and chop and rework itself, but still direct and inescapable, extremely proximate.

It was only a matter of time. Although two Icelandic artists in the span of a fortnight or so is pretty alarming. That has to be some kind of record considering the population. I kind of wish this randomizer kept things chronological, as I’ve never heard one second of Björk’s music. I’m aware of her as a general popular figure of course, but having zero context besides knowing that she’s weird is going to be interesting. Hoping it’s a good weird. Hey Björk. Take off that headgear and fire up the turntable. If you wouldn’t mind. That accent is STRONG. I really thought this was in another language. I am ashamed. Hey. I must be in a good mood because this isn’t that bad. The vocals are horrible, but the soundscape is lush enough to distract me from that. And she has some interesting inflections. This is pretty cool. I wouldn’t say she got milk from a stone, because that sounds like I’m over here “B Jorkin’ It” to the music. *THUNDEROUS BOOS.* What?? It was a good song. Will this get tired? Perhaps. The avant-garde vocal delivery is so weird. It’s so weird that it falls into the charming territory. It’s somehow still keeping me entertained. A history of touches? Yeah that sounds about right. Vocals weren’t working for me here. This sounds like a song that might end up on the catatonicyouth instagram feed. Women fresh off of an intimacy seminar hopping into garageband. Predictably terrible. I feel dirty after this. Meh. This one is cooler, but not a lot going on. Not hate-able albeit the same amount of silliness. The vocals are ranging from artistically inspiring to right out of a parody track. I can’t hate it, but I certainly can’t love it. WE ARE FAMILY. Oh god. This family is aboard an alien spacecraft. They are being dragged into the ventilation shaft one by one. Ripped into the vacuum of space. Silent terror frozen into eternity. This is COOL. The violin part makes me feel like I’m about to be executed by Bjork herself. I’ll occasionally criticize songs for sounding like lame montage fodder. This actually sounds like a great cut from a soundtrack. Movies aside. This was cool. A little long in the tooth, but the best effort thus far. Will we “Notget” a good album soon??? Nah we’ve had quite a few now. Usually at least one a week. I’m liking the psychotic carnival tone to this one. Conjures the image of a beleaguered mechanic attempting to repair a carousel. He wonders why this Pennsylvania corn maze bought the Björk merry-go-round package. The music is one thing, but the children don’t seem to enjoy the obsidian warthogs with kaleidoscopic third eyes. Nobody ever rides the supine man, displayed in his gluttonous excess. Nor do they enjoy the single sugar cube that appears to be riddled with tumours. Björk explains over the loudspeaker that this cube is the earth, and whilst sweet, there is an inherent addictive quality to life and moderation is necessary although in many ways impossible, thus destroying the very host. Next to this carousel, is the Dunk tank! I prefer Adam Dance. Or Adam Bomb. I just wanted to talk about mid mid-90’s wrestling sensation, Adam Bomb. From the bomb family. Ugh. This sounds like Sims music. When something happens at your job or whatever. Maybe the building sections. This song was kind of mid. Big shout out to ANOHNI (isn’t that a kind of tuna?) who actually picked up the song halfway through. A little insane, but a little insanity is good. This is a mix of a late 90’s video game menu music and some violin concerto. Which sounds pretty rad. Oh, throw in some electronic bass stabs. I don’t like this song at all. I’m becoming quite fatigued with this whole thing. This is a big step towards that. Not to say there aren’t interesting moments, but the interesting moment per minute ratio is getting worse and worse as the minutes melt away. Like a candle melting over days and days. I am sinking into the quicksand here. My head is throbbing. I am nearing my limit. Take me back to my regular Wednesday morning musical input of Pissgrave and Slint. Now that’s a winning combo. Well we did it. I persevered through some Björk, and you know what? I’m relatively unscathed. This is not something I’d regularly listen to at all, but it had an insane appeal that I couldn’t shake. It’s bizarre, off putting and often completely off its rocker, but that made it an interesting 60 minutes or so. Again, this verges on parody so often that it was hard not to treat it as such, but it also never made me laugh. Vulnicura has moments of intensity, beauty, and emotional poignance which make this thing fascinating. What drags it down is some of those more silly vocal stretches and the length of the dead sections. I’m sure this isn’t the last we’ll see of this particular Icelandic weirdo, but next time I’ll bring my chalice and ornate headgear. This first voyage was an esöteric one. 2.5-3 HIGHLIGHTS: Stonemilker, Family, Notget

Histronical. (Is that a word?) Thing is, Vespertine and Medulla, both more than a decade before this, covers the same ground with more warmth and … dare I say it? Feeling. (All opinions author’s own etc.)

Nice instrumentals and pretty devastating lyrics. It was tough to get through and I’m sorry to say that

Pretty good, I generally like bjork but this one has never blown my socks off. Stonemilker is a great song and there are a few other good moments. Quicksand is a pretty underwhelming closer. But all around not bad. 3/5

Adventorous album.

Certainly an interesting album, don't think I can call it enjoyable

It’s Bjork.

I've already rated a Bjork album with 5 stars in respect for her influence in music history (and it was her best in my opinion) so for this one I'll keep my old friend 3 that represents pretty much well this album.

I really appreciate her weirdness and production, but i probably wouldnt put her on for myself or at a function

Were they running out of picks like I don’t hate Björk but it feels like dimery was like oh i’m missing an album for 2015 [INSERT RANDOM BJÖRK ALBUM HERE] Cover art is seriously awesome though I love her costume

Interesting…some lovely soundscapes on here and some fascinating insights into the mind of our favourite Icelandic pixie but not one to revisit too often!

More "lush strings" than one would normally associate with Bjork, and if her "pixie spending 6 months of the year without daylight" vocals don't do anything for you, then this isn't going to change your mind. Can't honestly say it did enough for me to warrant inclusion on this list, but an hour of Bjork is never going to ruin my day either

I had never heard Bjork until now vut of course heard the name lots in the past. I really like the music, kind of all over the place isn't it. The lyrics are very hard to listen to, I think English is difficult for her. I would listen again

An alright album that doesn’t lend itself well to this format. I think you’ll get more out of it with listening a few times.

Wasn't my favourite of the Bjorks but nice

Vulnicura is one of those albums that you should put on your best set of headphones, turn off all the lights, light a few candles, smoke a little weed and just relax to. It's peak Björk! Weird, tranquil, moving, stressful, abstract, soothing and more. The majority of her catalog is something everyone should listen to at least once, but I confess I'm more of a "Post" fan, which upsettingly is not on this list anywhere.

Electronic pop. Interesting vocals and electronic arrangements. Quite emotional. But just a bit too weird for me. Can appreciate it from an artistic standpoint. Quite annoying in parts.

Oh, it's another Bjork album. I've heard three solo records and a Sugarcubes album but it turns out that I get more Bjork. This appears to be the final Bjork album, but quite possibly not, because you can't ever really appreciate Bjork until you have been subjected to every single one of her albums. There are good songs on here and they are all fairly weird, which is a given for Bjork at this point. I would recommend: Stonemilker A History of Touches Family (the right kind of weird for me) Atom Dance felt interminable to me. Still, I don't know if I could recommend this album to anyone. It's Bjork, so if you like her music then you will possibly like this. I just find it hard to connect with the music since the intent appears to be weird.

I don’t know why but I wasn’t expecting to like this at all and ended up enjoying it much more than expected. 3.5 rounded down to 3.

This was pretty decent Bjork that I wasn’t familiar with. I like her, but can’t take her in large doses.

01) Stonemilker - 7,5 02) Lionsong - 7,5 03) History of Touches - 7,5 04) Black Lake - 7,0 05) Family - 6,5 06) Notget - 6,5 07) Atom Dance - 6,5 08) Mouth Mantra - 5,5 09) Quicksand - 6,0 TOTAL: 6,72 (67/100) Current ranking: 311/446

A difficult listen at times, but I respect the vision. May revisit one day and give it another shot

Bjork is a one of a kind artist. Don't love it but don't hate it.

Bjork’s music is easily identified as avant garde and cinematic, but is admittedly still a little over my head. Definitely enjoyed some moments on this one, but found it a bit challenging to really dig in and get a full listen front to back. Pretty sick break up album, though.

It's Bjork so it's dense. Very dense. Nothing about this is really background music or vibey or danceable which is pretty cool actually. A lot of reviews I read before listening were about it being a breakup album which I couldn't care less about - can anyone actually understand the lyrics/vocals anyways? And why even try to pay attention - there's so much going on musically that is bizarre/different/out of the ordinary that for me the/her voice is just one of the instruments. General overarching negative on most albums: no guest singers please (notable here: Anohni whose voice is so off-putting to me that I have to dock a star), at least as a lead. More of a soundscape and not that off from latest-period Radiohead (which to be fair isn't my favourite) - I want to love this, but I think I only kinda like it. 6/10 3 stars.

I like Björk... I know people think she's weird or her music is weird, but I like it.

1 Sugarcubes, 4th solo Björk on this list + 1 that isn’t (Post [1995])= this’ll be my 6th one by her Vespertine and this are really about the same dude, huh I thought “Family” had horror vibes, turns out the composer for Midsommar, aka the Haxan Cloak, was involved with this Sometimes beautiful, almost always unsettling; I respect the fusion of Arca’s beats with Björk’s string arrangements, even if it’s not always to my own musical palate. 3 stars for now, ask me again in 7 days HL: “History of Touches”, “Black Lake”, “Notget” Late Jan. 15 or early Jan. 16, 2025

This is fine, but nothing extraordinary. Bjork feels a bit weird for the sake of weird.

I like the idea of being a Björk fan, and I enjoyed this, but I won’t put it on again

I respect Björk and think she’s an incredible talent worthy of the praise she receives. I’m just not super into her music typically. I’ve listened to most of her discography, including Vulnicura, and her albums just never rank nearly as high with me as they do critics and many music fans. It fades to the background really quickly, even if it is beautiful.

Cool, maybe too cool for me

Björk is super cool, but there is a lack of a hook and is a very specific type of music.

Björk is definitely not for everyone. Once you form an appreciation for her music though, there's really nothing else like it. This is my fourth Björk album, and I'm quite happy with it. I wouldn't put it above her earlier work, but still enjoyable.

I enjoyed it more musically than vocally or lyrically, but then again I didn't understand most of what Björk was singing.

Not really a favourite

I was more familiar with Björk's vocals/singing style going into this album after getting Vespertine earlier in the list. I enjoyed the modern sounds, but still found myself hoping for more of what I heard on Vespertine.

Favorite Track: Stonemilker

Bjorks eclectic style shines thru on ths album. Though I'm not generally into her electronica style music (I like some of the Sugarcubes stuff and her early solo work) this was ok.

Yeah i don't get bjork but not bad

Love Bjork, still can't dig her newer stuff, that's way too abstract for my eas

This album was… fine? It didn’t have a distinct identity like the other 3 Bjork albums I’ve gotten so far. Lovely arrangements and a very pretty sound but didn’t leave much of a lasting impression

Day329 - a happy bjork is already a melancholy bjork, but a mad scorned bjork is gonna tear someone apart

While I enjoyed this album moreso than I anticipated and it was rather serene, there wasn't much that was memorable to me. She's good a good voice and there was a good mesh of electronic and even some jazz elements, but some of the tracks tended to drag. I probably won't go out of my way to listen to more Bjork, but I had a nice time with this all things considered. Notable Tracks: - Stonemilker - Family 6/10

we love Björk, loved her debut a lot. This one reaches not the same feeling like the debut did for me. Still a good album that just doesn't match with my preferences in music. 3.0/5.0

Björk being Björk. Making artful music born of her own trauma / life. 3.5

I certainly respect Bjork, I’m glad she’s still doing her thing, but honestly - I could live with anything post Post. There might be some songs on here that with repeated listens I could grow to … like, but I mostly just found this stressful.

Not too hard to get through! super beautiful voice with very beautiful melodies. Enjoy it better than her acapella record! Would maybe listen to it again ? but too experimental for my taste.

Interesting instrumentals but found her voice a bit jarring after 1hr

Interesting musically but some songs a bit atonal

Never listed to Björk before and probably wont again but I can see why ppl like her

Silence in the studio! Björk is doing Music N°2 It looks like an 1 hour long Revolution 9 with lyrics but it ain't bad. It's good in a strange way.

I ended up grabbing the live version of this. It was awesome.

Excited to hear my first full length Björk album. Very atmospheric & beautiful sounding. Musical score like string arrangements. I can appreciate the artistry, but for some reason don't feel like I would come back to this album again. Sorry to give this one a 3 would be a 3 1/2 if possible. (1x) 3 1/2 stars, B+

Could appreciate there is a lot of emotion and talent here but not my favourite sound

Björk is a difficult artist to handle, and just a couple of hurried listens before the next album is due, isn't enough to fully take in the untraditional song structures and the layers of sound she builds. Here, I really like the two first songs, and the gigantic Black Lake. However, when she comes with songs like History of Touches and Family, with no cohesive rhythm, and what seems like vocals over an alternative rhythm not present in the song, it's hard to handle. I guess I want to like the album more than I do. At least yet.

An uneasy, yet unique listen. This one is somehow more emotionally charged than what we're used to hearing, though, as we get Björk in her post-breakup feelings (but this ain't your mama's breakup record!). What's unique here is that Björk also focuses on the warm parts of the relationship itself, as well as healing process after said breakup. It's a pretty honest evaluation that you don't hear too often in music when it comes to this common subject. I think the production is what listeners will remember the most from this album. Fellow experimental artist Arca was tagged to produce most of this record, and their presence is heard with the mix of industrial & electronic sounds paired with the string arrangements heard all throughout. It teeters on the edge of being too abrasive, but I wasn't as put off as I was initially expecting to be. I only have "Medúlla" to compare to this in terms of all the Björk discography that I've consumed, and I think I slightly prefer this. A little more cohesive and raw. Mid 3 for me.

"I can fix her."

I like Bjork's voice and I thought this was nice overall but there wasn't much there that would differentiate one song from another. While listening I couldn't help but think that it sounded like something a dance company would do interpretive dance to.

I love her early work, but hadn't heard this album before. I like that there were a lot of strings. I didn't like the harmonies on Lionsong very much. I loved the contrast between Björk's voice and Anohni's. My favourite song was Stonemilker.

Gotta be in the mood for this but it’s good stuff. Not really driving music.

I really like the beginning of the album. It's so emotionally packed and honestly really good to listen to. But then it slowly starts getting worse. At the end of the album, I'm wincing through pain to finish listening. If the whole album were like the first couple tracks, it would be really, really good. Instead, the album as a whole just falls flat. Favorite Song(s): Lionsong

An album where the lyrics help the immersion into the music. An interesting listen that I may touch back on from time to time.

This was decent, not my favorite though.

It’s a cool experimental album but I need something to hook me in and this didn’t have it

Not my favorite Bjork album

Not sure on this. But I probably unfairly compare all Bjork to Post, which is such a phenomenal record that I don’t think it could be surpassed. Half this album I really liked, especially the more chamber pop sounding songs. Others though do detract, and at times even sounds like someone taking the piss out of Bjork. I’m going for a 3.5, probably return to it as it could be a grower

mér finnst þetta bara nokkuð gott. nóg fyrir aðra. 3,5.

Ironic since they worked together but I think of Björk like Lars von Trier. I like her music when I’m listening to it. But I need to be in a very specific mood. I’m glad I experienced it. But I don’t think I ever need to go back and listen to it again.

Björk's music is otherworldly. I continue to not be able to appreciate it. Glad I've given her catalogue a chance due to this list, but this one's a 3/5. Singing continues to not be my thing.

Standard bjork weirdness but some great moments

Lost in the dreamy, chilly soundscape of this album I can't help but be remembered by the fire and fury that often comes out of Bjork herself. Each and every time--at least that I've seen--has been well warranted. her anger at misogyny from the mainstream and the constant weird way people treat her. hell, a man she never knew killed himself and tried to kill her with him. A person deserves their anger after going through that. one incident in particular stands out to me that was spun against Bjork where she attacked a reporter. at first, it was shown as a star acting crazy for no reason. Only later on was it revealed how this reporter had harassed her for days straight. is violence the best response? maybe not. but was it warranted? hell yes. those who pry at people's sanity like that for profit all need a good slap or two. Should that delivery driver have shot that YouTuber? probably not. but he did shoot low with no intent to kill. he got free for assault, instead getting ten years for firing into a populated place. that sounds about right.

"pretty gibberish". First, of course I know English isn't her first language. There are not many who can sing so well in multiple languages. She has a lovely voice and natural sincerity.

Didn’t seem much more spectacular than any other bjork album.

I got some mixed feelings about this one. Very experimental. Very out there. I appreciated some bits. But overall experience I didn’t care for

On this album, Björk is somewhat more accessible than usual, but that isn't saying much. It's still not something I would like to listen to again. 2.5/5

Veeery experimental. Unique vibe really. Not very much my cup of tea, but I appreciated it.

Sounds like Bjork to me. Not in a good or bad way. Not sure what else to say about it.

Bjork will Be Bjork, transformative and out there. I think you either love or hate her work. 2.8

The string arrangement on Lionsong is cool, but someone really needs to give Bjork a hug.

3 pretty good really weird

Weird, but not not enjoyable

not her absolute best album but it’s very beautiful and interesting. just not immediately accessible, 3 or 4

Very much in the Björk mode, tendency to blend into one, although I wonder if that's intentional. Well put together in any case 3.5*

The artsy, pretentious side of me wants to say that it's interesting (in a good way). There seems to be a lot of grief attached to this, as well as liking the production. The... not side of me wants to chastise it for being indulgent, wailing, and somewhat incomprehensible. Not sure who wins out here. Favorite track: "Black Lake"

I just can't ever stay with Bjork for the length of an entire album, and this one felt the same way

More of the same

Curious and interesting. Wouldn't rate it higher than background music, though. Couldn't see myself ever choosing to listen to it.

Idk, I think I need another listen

When I'm in the right mood I enjoy Bjork. This isn't one of my favorite of hers.

This album deserves a few more listens, I did enjoy it but it felt kind of repetitive and monotonous

Interesting without being amazing

The world is a far more interesting place with Björk in it. Can't help but admire her talent, but this album didn't quite hit the mark for me.

OK, nice sound but very samey, it drags on a bit

Liked Stonemilker

It's the first Bjork album that just sounds like a Bjork album. The production is a bit predictable, and it seems to lack the big idea or stylistic change that usually makes a Bjork album so exciting.

Day 28 - June 29th Very average. Was not unbearable, but nothing special. 3/5

Very Björky

Very spacey vibes. I enjoy Bjork's accent. The album as a whole feels very artistic like it could be playing on a loop in a modern abstract art museum. I did get tired of the instrumentation and choppy flow of the singing style after about 4 or 5 songs.

Ziemlich besondetes Album sehr reduziert fesselt aber

Not as "new Bjork" as I thought it would be.

Another Bjork album that is easier to respect than it is to enjoy. Rating: 3/5 Playlist track: Black Lake Date listened: 25/06/24

Best Song: Notget Worst Song: Black Lake

Alors, Björk, c'est vraiment pas du tout mon délire, je comprends aucunement ça mais c'est clairement une Artiste.

Her newer stuff isn’t for me, but I really respect Björk as an artist who makes exactly what she wants.

It is a shame that I find myself admiring later Björk albums more than I love them.

Oh man. Tender, sad, elegiac. Very nice

This is the first Björk album I’ve seen in this challenge - I don’t know if there are more? Even though this isn’t the kind of music I’d actively choose - I enjoyed having something a bit different! it’s not my usual cup of tea and parts are hard to listen to and a little jarring - I think the challenge and interest of Björk’s music earns its place on this list. It was good to work to - the lyrics are hard to follow so it felt like her voice was more instrumental

Björk’s music makes me wish I believed in any sort of mysticism. I feel like I am witnessing a lost world when I hear her sound. I rarely understand what she is saying, but the way she is saying it is so enchanting.

Einzelne Björk Songs sind ok, aber ein ganzes Album...

I don't know if I'm qualified to rate this album. Since I have to give it something, I'll go 3 stars, for reasons I don't quite understand. I can confidently say that I do not love, nor hate this album, but I am not agnostic toward it either.

First exposure to Bjork. It's different but not as weird as I expected, it's ok. Ended abruptly. 3* Her legs in the album cover creep me out.

I like Bjork, I love Stonemilker. Overall sound and vibe on this album is stunning. But as a front to back listen it's kind of exhausting and leaves something to be desired. Songs go on for so long and there's so little change in the style and sound that it really becomes a slog less than a third of the way through. Individual elements are pretty nice and it's a respectable project, but I don't think I need to hear it all the way through again. 7/10

I have a lot of respect for Björk - she is a true individualist, a pioneer, rule-breaker and revels in that role. I have just never got on with her music - I’ve tried but it just doesn’t reach me. Sorry, B. The score is for her impact.

I like Björk but this album was hard to absorb. The mix of classical and far out just didn't please my ears. But I am glad to explore her music and get to know her beyond Human Behavior. I do LOVE her dandelion headdress.

I get the idea behind it. I understand why people would be into it, so technically I do like it but I don’t want to listen to it.

Surprise for me. I don’t generally like Bjork but this was sweet and mournful. A good quiet background.

I just feel bad for Björk going through the breakup while listening to this. I love that crazy whirling dervish of an Icelander. Go do your thing, Björk!

Bjackground Music.

Björk being Björk.

You know how it is when you meet someone you don't really know in the office mini-kitchen, make the mistake of breezily asking how they are, and then they unexpectedly download for ages while you desperately hope someone will come in and give you the opportunity to flee? That, but **oh so beautifully produced**

Kan virkelig godt lide produktionen på den her. Synes det er et fedt lyt altid, men der er en del af sangene som ikke er synderligt memorable i sig selv

Dynamic string arrangements, certainly an album that delivers more with background context. Bjork is just a liiiiittle too out there for me though. Is it a great piece of avant garde art? Yes. Is it an enjoyable listen? Eh not so much. Too meandering. Listened to: walking through prospect park to a dentist appointment. Favorite track: Notget

I like Bjork, but I do enjoy her first three albums most. Her music gets more abstract as time goes on, and loses me eventually. This one is a difficult listen, but is okay to my tastes.

3 stars. Not my fav bjork album.

This is my 3rd Björk album now, and I think I'm starting to get her sound and get used to her voice but I still don't really find her music enjoyable.

Theres really nothing wrong with this album, it’s just that Bjork kind of just becomes the same thing over and over and never evolves to anything new. Which I don’t car how unique or clever something is, after 30 years of the same thing over and over again, anything will eventually get old.

There were some enjoyable tracks from this Björk record but it didn't strike me as a whole collection I'd spin again in a hurry

It's always good to hear Bjork and she's definitely written some of amazing and incredible music that blows me away. Sometimes though it is a bit irritating and not my bag. It's funny that. This has a bit of everything on it for me. I would like to listen again more closely though.

A really cool album, not as good as other Bjork in my opinion but still pretty awesome.

This opening track is fantastic and not at all what I was expecting. This album is very good.

Interesting but I am not really a fan

Slay boss queen

It's interesting musically speaking but still struggling with her vocals

I usually find Björk's lyric delivery annoying in anything more than short bursts though somehow this seemed to (mostly) work. I'm gad it's on the list but I'm not sure it's something I'd come back to.

Overall so and so album. Some interesting parts others not so much. Standout songs: Black Lake Notget

I think I liked this more than the last Bjork project but overall it's not my kind of sound and didn't really vibe with the album. Some of the songs also tend to overstay their welcome. 6/10

Interesting voice.

Björk - Vulnicura I enjoyed the somberness of this album, but doubt I'd listen to it again. I think you need to be in a special headspace to fully appreciate Björk's music. And I don't think I've achieved this level to ascend into the cult of Björk. 3/5

First day listening to this wasn’t in the mood and ready to give it two stars, today I was more in the mood and ready to appreciate the atmospheric feel and sound scale to the album, which changes my view to yes there is room for one more Bjork album on the list, 3 stars

Interesting album with some great strings. Unique vocals tie it in. Light 7

I didn’t hate that

There was one song I really liked, but the rest was just okay

I respect the shot out of Björk. She is as creative as it gets. I appreciate her. My rating would increase if her creativity were tempered a bit, but then it wouldn’t be Björk.

Rating: 6/10 Best songs: Stonemilker

Good! Its Bjork, so it was always going to be weird. Some of it was a bit difficult to listen to, but the opening track Stonemilker is good :)

Beautiful. But not her best work

This is my first Bjork album. My first thought when pulling up 'Vulcinara' was "This had better be almost an hour for a good reason." I've also heard this referred to as Bjork's breakup album, which makes me inclined to like it, since I tend to enjoy albums centered around intense emotions and moments in the artist's life. This woman was really going through it. Her compositions are wandering and unbothered. The strings are beautiful and I like how they're combined with the drum loops and inorganic sounds. I disagree that it sounds like she's "trying to be experimental," none of this sounds labored to me. It sounds like someone working the pain away. There's real agony on here. I'm surprised she didn't process her vocals more, and grateful the raw delivery is largely left alone. It's still not easy listening, and I can't say that I'll revisit this often, but I enjoyed my time with this album. Highlights: History of Touches, Black Lake, Atom Dance, Quicksand

Ok. If in the mood. Quite eclectic

Good weird? Bad weird? No idea, but certainly very weird

SO WEIRD but so different and I think that's good! Worthy of a 3.5 but I think since there's no half-stars I'll just do a 3

I always find albums like this intriguing. They aren't unlistenable, but I also don't find them particularly engaging or entertaining. It is pleasant, and I think the production is brilliant, and some of the songwriting is powerful if purposefully dense. I enjoyed listening to it, and did so twice, but don't envision myself going back to it again. It's probably brilliant, but just not my think.

It seems the most approachable of the Bjork albums on this list recently (for me). It is still Bjork with her unusual vocal delivery, though the music is quite sweeping and majestic... layered orchestral that gives it depth and can soar at times. Stonemilker, Lionsong and Black Lake really stand out. Towards the end it gets a bit back to a bit more artsy and more challenging, but it was an interesting listen.

Wild..

Breakup albums always tend to be overrated and I think this one is no exception. Björk's delivery and lyrics are heartbreaking and Arca's sharpened production are the two real strong points of Vulnicura. Björk has never sounded so passionate and honest since Vespertine, which ironically is her love album dedicated to the same man. Having said that, the song themselves are too meandering for me and things start to all blend together after a while. There are still some amazing moments in there, but in the end I found it a bit tiring to get through it.

Although I love Bjork, this is the album I have the hardest time getting into it. The music is more ordinary and samey than her usual work. Don't get me wrong, this is a good album, but not essential to me.

puuh, nochmal krasser als die ersten alben.

Decent. The world is a better place with Björk in it. I wish Björk would release a series of albums with standards from various genres, kind of like Willie Nelson or Johnny Cash did.

Some really beautiful music. Please don’t make me listen anymore.

This was an interesting project with a lot of abstract elements. This isn’t something I would revisit often but I can appreciate the artistry.

A-solid but not really good D-nothing stood out, good or bad

It's weird how the album just... cuts out. But the track being called "Quicksand," you just get... pulled under. Although quicksand really isn't like what we as kids thought it was. It's usually only a few feet deep. But the drama sometimes IS better than the reality. I enjoyed this more as atmospheric music, which is what I guess she was going for? Background type of stuff. You start listening to the words in things like "History of Touches" and you're thinking "wait, what did she just say?" I guess I'm getting more and more used to her type of adventurous style. You keep hearing enough of it, it's going to rub off on you, I guess. But the shorter songs were better. A 10 minute Bjork song? Yeah, no thank you. Top songs: "Stonemilker", "Notget", "Quicksand"

A little trippy in terms of the synth or programming. And very trippy in terms of Bjork's vocals. But not in an "oh my god I love this" kind of way. More in a "huh, how about that?" kind of way. The strings throughout the album were a nice touch. But I'm not feeling the need to go listen to more Bjork.

Bjork is just plain weird. The strings sound great, but her singing sounds like the vocal equivalent of interpretative dance.

I love that music like this made by artists such as Björk. I need to be in the right frame of mind for this - that isn’t now. I will come back to this album as I feel it has something that only repeated listens will reveal.

A little goes a long way

Not my kind of music but I enjoyed it regardless, very different

I really want to like this album but it is so boring.

It had some good songs but also felt it wondered too much in places.

This one got denser as tracks went by but it is an outstanding effort. Good record.

I think I have the capacity for approximately 40min of enjoying Bjork and unfortunately this album exceeds that limitation.

Not a huge Bjork fan, but I will say there's no one like her. I think she's one of those artists you either really love or really don't.

gloriously weird. Score: 3 pineapples

This is another good album that fits a particular mood or time-slot for me. I do enjoy some of the unique features that Björk adds to her music, but they can be too much in moments. Very solid.

Like a real sad trip

I respect the creativity, but I just don’t feel it

- such an interesting style of singing - I can’t tell if it’s artistic brilliance or wildly stupid - I can appreciate it but I wouldn’t come back to it - 2.5 but I’ll round up since it’s unique

Björk has their fans. And I applaud that. I also applaud the musicianship and creativity on display here.

Artistically, this is indulgent. After a while I settled into it, and there are moments, but it requires effort.

It was my first time listening to Vulnicura and obviously, it would need a lot more listens to understand this album better and rate it. It's heavy and different, and unique at the same time, but I wouldn't say I really enjoyed it at my first listen, though I find it interesting. I should definitely listen to this more times, but for now I'm giving it a 3.

Sorry Bjork fans, I just don’t enjoy her music. I can appreciate the art and artist but it’s not something that I would want to regularly listen to.

6/10 kind of hypnotizing

Rating: 6/10 Decent album overall. Bjork always has great production, very experimental with orchestral, electronic, pop, and glitchy elements. Where this album falls short for me is Bjork's vocals, sounded a bit monotone, it felt like she was talking instead of singing on a lot of the album. Also even though the production is pretty experimental a lot of the songs seemed to blend into one another, all of the songs sounded relatively similar. Despite this, the album is experimental enough that it kept my interest the whole time and I really enjoyed the production, the other albums I heard by her are definitely better though. Favorite songs: Stonemilker, History of Touches. Worst song: Quicksand.

I think Björk is cool, but this was just atmospheric background music for me. Pretty, though.

Björk either completely nails it or takes everything a bit too far on all of her releases. Vulnicura falls into the latter category. The string arrangements are interesting but I grow tired of the concept along the way. This is somehow both too Björk and not quite Björk enough for me. That being said, it’s really not a bad album. It rarely is with Björk.

I really want to like Bjork...and her music is diverse but it doesn't matter what music goes on behind I can't get her vowel twisting vocals that seem alien to the melody behind. Sigh.....

It's Bjork. It's weird. It's fascinating. It's not really my cuppa.

I like Bjork as a cool person and was looking forward to diving into her music, but I didn't really enjoy this album. I appreciate her talent, but not my jam.

Liked tracks 2 and 3, Tyler’s comments about sing talking were dead on.

I really like Bjork so I was excited for this one. But at this point I can't give it a high rating, yet. I like the vocals, percussion, and overall sound. But the songs are pretty artsy and take some effort to get into, and I haven't gotten over that hump yet. This differs from some earlier Bjork which was much catchier and easier to get into.

There are artists that change up what they do seemingly with every album, and I can follow where they go and enjoy what they're doing (PJ Harvey, Radiohead). & then there are some artists that get really esoteric as their career progresses, and they lose me along the way. I give Bjork so much credit for her vision and trying different things, while also acknowledging strings and pretty singing and ambient noise don't really do it for me.

I think I liked this the best of the (excessive number of) Björk albums on this list, for an active energy and variety I find lacking in a lot of her work (where I feel like a kind of monotonous brooding intensity never quite opens up into whatever the payoff is supposed to be). People I respect love her and I'm fully open to the interpretation that I'm just not getting it for whatever reason.

I just wish she’d coordinate her voice with the music!

This is interesting and alright. But I don't know what is enjoyable about it.

I would like to give this a 4 because I really like Björk, I gave Debut a 3 when I should have given it a 4, and this is my favorite album of her later career (the albums after Medúlla), but it’s just not quite there for me. My favorite song is “Notget”, but I have gotten a bit tired of that song.

She has a knack for mystical sounding music. Many of these are long and rather rambly. Not fully on board with it, but it does have the strange beauty one would expect from Björk.

Part of my problem is that I tried to listen to this in the car on a drive between Cincinnati and Cleveland during a rainstorm. It's definitely not road trip music. I'm generally a big fan of Bjork, and admire her seemingly boundless creativity, but even when I went to listen on headphones, there's something about this that still rubbed me the wrong way. Felt a bit lost and searching, dissonant and abrasive. I'd bet this would be amazing to see performed live though.

Love Björk but this one may be a bit too personal for her that it doesn't do a whole lot for me. It's a breakup album that I can't relate to.

More of a 3.5

Wasn’t as impressed with this as earlier Björk (2.5/5)

At ty this point, I'll follow Björk anywhere. But that doesn't mean I'll stick around and hang with her. I get it, someone broke her heart, and this can clearly resonate with all of us who dealt with a breakup. But at the same time, you gotta get over it.

Cue in the mixed feelings. On one hand, I love how no Bjork album sounds like one of its predecessors. I love the innovation and sense of exploration, Bjork boldly going where no musician has gone before. Even the album cover is worth noting for its daring. On the other hand, there's the actual music. I'm enjoying it, but not as much as I should (?): it's definitely not easy to digest, one of those albums that require too many listens before I can conclude that I would have been better off spending my time listening to other albums.

Typical great Bjork style, but becoming too abstract for me. Where has the directness of Debut gone?

Bit weird

Background music

Kind of indifferent to this one here. Bjork seems so sweet and likable and has an impressive voice, and I could listen to “Army of Me” on repeat. But whenever I’ve delved into the albums, I kind of find myself admittedly looking for a chorus that repeats itself just once so that I can feel better about being able to tell one song from the next. But it never happens! Things are pretty and pretty weird and I just know that if she lets me in we’ll be friends! (Annnd she just locked the door in my face.) As is, the music sort of just washes over me and keeps me at a distance. I give Von Trier credit; it for sure feels like Bjork’s in her own musical at times. That was a good call to take her and put that in a movie. But if I were directing this album, there’d be more payoff to go with all the set up. That said, “History of Touches,” “Quicksand” and “Stonemilker” were all interesting. Hell, it’s all interesting. I just wish it were more than that.

Bjork being Bjork, Vulnicura contains all the hallmarks that make Bjork. The ethereal sounds, her dreamy quality, you can't replecate elsewhere. I can't say that this album is any better than her previous ones, but still a solid effort even if it feels more drawn out, yet not as captivating as her debut. Best: Lionsong Worst: Black Lake

This is our third Björk album. The two other ones got 5 and 3 stars respectively. Vulnicura is definitely more on the side of the previous 3-star album with the same criticism: jarring, dissonant weirdness distracting too much from a good voice and interesting ideas.

Too much Bjork on this list. Interesting artist but I just can’t listen to this drag on.

Tolerable but I still don't care about it

Decent. Not really my vibe though.

Great innovation and percussion, but the melody is frustratingly absent

I don't mind bjork but this was just a little bit much for me

a very bizarre breakup fever dream that overstays its welcome but has some interesting ideas. overall feels a little muddled. 2.5/5

So weird in all the right ways, stricking albeit strange album. Would listen to again!

Interesting experience.I like the orchestral sound.Bjorks vocals are beautiful as always.Really weird and avant Garde.Could Never imagine myself playing one of these songs ever again for enjoyment.not that they’re bad.they’re just not really good as individual songs.Cool experience as an album though.

It's a solid Bjork album. Feels very similar to older stuff. Nothing about made me feel like this deserved to be here more than Debut or Post but maybe I need to give it another listen

Interesting. 3/5

5/10. Meh, maybe I could have enjoyed this more if I'd been in the mood for Bjork. It's certainly not bad, and it has a certain sweeping melodrama that I appreciated, but it wasn't a ton of fun to listen to for me.

Pretty slow. 6/10

Pop muy caracterizado por la voz de la cantante. Tranquilo de escuchar y, aparte de buena voz, nada más destacable

I think I like the idea of Bjork more than I like her, its fine, but mostly washed over me

Intriguing. Very personal lyrics set over cold calculated electronica music. I loved the first track. The rest, not so much.

Its a Bjork album.

She’s so odd and so easy to love and the songs are impossible to sing along with! Stonemilker is crazy beautiful. I felt like I was in a trans listening to it. The video is interesting as well. Black Lake is such a slow burn…it starts pauses, starts again pauses again start again…building tension…starts again. Something so wonderful about the pace of this song. It builds up and just when you think it’s going to take off….it comes back down to the ground and builds up again. What a journey. Favorite tracks: Stonemilker, Black Lake Others: Notget, Quicksand

Well bjork being bjork I guess

Typisch Björk, maar met extra strijkers.

Interesting; good background music for work.

wierd 2,5

Unlike the 2 other Bjork albums I got, this one didn't speak to me. It just more of a slog compared to the other two.

now that is an interesting album. I get why people hype Björk so much but it's nothing for me. It's really good and artistic, I'm just not a huge fan of the sound. But I don't get why it's rated 2.85/5 here, that is too low. So if you read this give her a star more or so. For me it's still only a 6/10 (3/5)

She's good shit

I've been listening to Bjork a bit more lately but I haven't worked my way up to this one just yet. Listened once and it's very nice. I look forward to listening more.

Pretty good album

3.6 - It took a few attempts to get into this record to uncover its charms. I finally had to break out my good headphones and give it a close listen. So I'd say this is definitely a challenging record and not an instant homerun for me. At times I wish she incorporated some of the glitchy percussions more sparingly, especially on songs like "Mouth Mantra." And her lyrics often sound too conversational, as if we're overhearing a conversation with a therapist. But the orchestral arrangements are consistently breathtaking throughout. Standouts: "Lionsong", "Black Lake", "Family."

J'ai aimé, mais j'écoutais d'une oreille distraite. J'ai pas autant aimé que Debut, j'ai trouvé cet album plus drabe. Il faudrait que je réécoute pour me faire une meilleure idée. 6/10

Even though it’s usually something I would never listen to again, I always have to admire bjorks albums. They’re just so different and unique that it’s hard to shit on them even if you don’t personally love the music; I wanted to keep listening to this album even though I wasn’t thoroughly enjoying it just to hear what she was gonna do on the next song. She’s obviously very talented and is willing to work in every genre of music using her own style. This one was very orchestral and notget was the main song that stuck out to me. I’m excited to get some of her classic 90s stuff.

hvalsang og øde landskap. Det funker, men det er ikke zen

This is exactly what I'd expect of a Björk album

This really shocked me. It's Björk over strings, and she mostly decided not to use her faerie voice, so it's actually pleasant at times. Still the best parts were the ones where she stepped aside and let the musicians do their work. Best track: Stonemilker

Sehr schwer reinzukommen

pretty and chill

ну это на удивление приятнее чем первый альбом Шугаркьюбз (который мне альбомы поставили). всё ещё не моё, но музыкальность красивая

Vulnicura is the ninth album by Icelandic musician and singer Björk. This electronic, ambient, avant-garde album is composed of string arrangements backed with electronic beats. It was a healing album for Björk, produced after a breakup she went through. Unfortunately, the album was leaked online a couple months before release so the label decided to digitally release the album a couple days after the leak. There is also a sister album to this one simply called Vulnicura Strings, that has 8 of the 9 tracks without the electronic beats so the focus is just on the string arrangements. This critically acclaimed album is seen as Björk's best work in the last decade. It truly is a work of art that delves into the raw, heartfelt personal feelings of someone moving on after a breakup. Björk's beautiful vocals are as splendid as ever on this album, and the music will sweep you off your feet. Vulnicura is a fantastic album!
