Reviews (page 4 of 8)
Good album, really enjoyed Pull the Pin and some of the other tracks on the record
4.5
Went into this expecting to hate it, actually enjoyed a lot of it, impressed that KB produced this all herself. Really weird and wonderful album glad it was on the list.
More batshit crazy warbling from the queen of batshit crazy warbling (hat is a good thing, just to clarify)
Took me a few tracks to get into it, then enjoyed the eeriness of it all. 3.5
Lots of interesting ideas. Not all of them resonated with me, but you can tell this was put together with a lot of thought. Not the kind of thing I’ll relisten to, but glad I heard it
this was weird but in a great way.
Rating: 7/10 Best songs: Sat in your lap
This starts out like 'Kate Bush does Oingo Boingo', spotlights some nice folky instrumentation (but not before an ill-advised Mockney accent) and moves into a synth cut featuring the Windows 95 error sound. A mess, but an intriguing one, where uilliean pipes butt up against some quasi-Mick Karn fretless bass. One has to admire the questing artistry and willingness to experiment with such a broad sonic palette, even if the results can be a tad obtuse.
Happy to listen to more of Kate Bush! Recognized more songs of her’s than I realized!
καλη experimental rock/pop Μουσικη
If I had hounds of love that would’ve been perfect timing… The album opens with sat in your lap, it’s a good song (especially love the drumming) but I’am a little sceptical of the vocals, especially on the pre chorus. There goes a tenner sounds like Kate reminding the listener that she’s a brit ( in a vocal sense) the thing is I like it but only because it’s so quirky. Again pull out the pin satisfies in an experimental must listen way and it is cool but is it a song that screams return? Suspended in gaffa feels a little “ janky” but the experimentation is always appreciated. Even if those backing vocals should’ve never been recorded. Side one ends with leave it open, those warped vocals is probably my favourite thing she’s done so far in the album actually I greatly appreciate this whole song in comparison to the awkward this album is, don’t get me wrong the song is an odd mess but a well made odd mess. It’s really hard to understand the vocals on side two’s opener the dreaming the admiration is high and actually I really enjoyed this one! Night of the swallow is the most normal song off the whole album, fine the vocals are a little odd but nothing like the rest of the album; it’s a dramatic piano song, really cool. I really don’t get it, all the love sounds odd yeah but more single like than literally any of the singles, I love the when the song just briefly dies for all of the quiet sections and when the piano comes in at the chorus wow. Even the penultimate track Houdini sounds more normal than the singles, like fine the screaming is a little wired but the rest of it has certainly got a higher chance of selling than a song like there goes a tenner. Anyway Houdini is a great piano song. The album ends with a song called get out of my house now this is more the strange warped Kate bush that I ( mostly) “missed” for the past 3 songs but the application is good I guess and it serves as a passable closer. I mean this wasn’t what I was expecting more of an experience than an album, a fun one but not one that I want to relieve for at least another year. But by sheer experimentation alone it deserves a 4.
An eccentric masterpiece
With The Dreaming, Kate Bush reached another milestone in her career. The compositions, weird sounds, and eastern rhythms set this album apart from the rest. Since Sat in Your Lap to Get Out Of My House (where I believe she transforms into a donkey) the listener feels intrigued and intimidated. It is a total experience.
Wtf. È una roba stranissima. Mi fa venire in mente Rocky horror picture show. Ganza, devo dire mi ha stranita e mi è piaciuto!
Not immediate but worth the effort
Dosen't have great flow, but a lot of great songs and great production as well (I love the sound of the drums on this one).
I have poor opinions on experimental music, this hasn’t changed but this lies on the more listenable side, reminds me a little of Mike Oldfield of whom I’m a fan so it gains points for that
Favoritne: Sat In Your Lap, Suspended in Gaffa, Pull Out the Pin, Leave It Open, All the Love.
I brought a CD of didgeridoo music back from my childhood trip to Australia, a CD which went unappreciated by everyone around me. Here, the instrument shows up in only one track but Kate uses her screaming register here more than in any other album, or so it seems. Harsh Medicine. Theme/concept aside, there's much less tonal consistency here than on Hounds, despite a similar sonic palette. Still love it.
this music is kind of insane, love u Kate for that
okay kate x
Interesting. Will need a relisten.
4.5
Great
Damn i really love the sound of this, the fretless bass gives it such a unique vibe. She’s a great vocalist but her style definitely had to grow on me. 8/10 but could be higher with more listens
I listened to this pretty recently so I thought I'd just rate it for now. :)
sehr gut.
What a peculiar album. Really dig it 7.5/10 FT: Sat on your lap
Night of the Swallow is one of my fav Kate Bush songs that lies in this album which is spectacular.
I wasn't sure what to expect with this, but I found it enjoyable. There is a fear that, with all the dramatics, it'll be more of a musical, but it thankfully isn't. It exists in a bizarre world where the theatre kids did something cool. The record doesn't shy away from using both intricate vocal layering and heavy sampling (specifically the Fairlight CMI) to create emotional, atmospheric soundscapes that range from the beautiful to the dissonant. Some might dismiss this as "weird for the sake of being weird," but I find that reductive. It ignores the album's experimental and deeply expressive nature. It's clear her intention wasn't to create a collection of radio-friendly hits. To me, it just sounds like Kate Bush being unapologetically herself, which is certainly preferable to being "boring for the sake of being normal." I suspect Kate Bush occupied a much more mainstream space in her native UK than elsewhere. This list has a strong bias toward UK music history, which is obvious if you're a local, and stuff like this might seem a bit eccentric to outsiders. That said, it's not surprising this record was not as commercially successful as her others. While it works well together as a concept album, fading dreamily between songs, it does lack a standout track which would make a good single. Even then, a standout track would either be out of context alone, or, if made specifically to be a single, out of context with the rest of the album. With so much happening in the production, I'll definitely need to revisit this to catch the details I missed the first time around. I'm looking forward to diving into the rest of her discography as well. I close my review with this: Eeyore! EEEEeeyore! 4/5
That was nothing like I expected it to be and it ended up being pretty good.
Pretty cool!
After my getting into Apple, Joni, Siouxsie, was looking forward to another bit of leftfield female percussion-y music - this one left me a little cold though - it's influences were less jazzy and more theatrical, music hall and was much less my thing...potentially will go back for another listen time.permitting - really enjoyed Leave It Open!
I really didn't like her other albums here, and I was expecting this one to be no different. I was kinda wrong about it, it caught my attention in a way the others didn't. I am really, really tired of whiny British dude blues, so a screaming and growling lady was actually a relief to be something different. 3/5
Two word review: “hot mess”
I've never really been able to get into Kate Bush, but I respect a "let's get weird"-type album. Despite not listening to her much at all, I somehow learned that "Suspended in Gaffa" was the name of her fans' mailing list? Anyway, it's a bit disappointing to look up what gaffa is and find out it's just tape and not like a gummy substance of some kind?
Mad as a box of frogs but I think I might get into it if I listened more.
Don't know if I'd ever listen to it again, but it was interesting throughout.
I am sure that after a few listens this album would grow on me. I don't fully understand it now having only listened once.
This is weird even for '80's Brit-pop. I know several artists I respect love it, but it would fit right in being played under the big top, waiting for a literal circus to start. I mean, that would be creepy af, but apropos. Quirkiness and influence give it the bump to 3*, but man, this was close.
She doesn’t really tickle my taste on this one, great voice though
The overall atmosphere of The Dreaming reminds me of The Cure. The production is far from transparent but it makes me appreciate the songs more - especially since the artist herself did the production.
Very avante garde and experimental which is totally my jam. I found a lot of this interesting but my gut tells me that this is a 3 stars for now. I may revisit this though and update later
A little wonky for my taste
Self producing her own album to express her artistic vision was a pretty heady achievement for a female artist in 1982. That said, listening to her artistic vision is a pretty tough slog for me. Her vocal swoops and howls and the frequent banshee wails are a pretty difficult listen.
First impressions, I'd say it is good music. It is interesting music. Can't really get into it, however. It's very theatrical and some songs are very... gimmicky. It's like she wanted to make the songs as a vehicle for her to explore specific sounds and do accents and noises.. which is fine, it's cool and experimental, but for me.. while it does translate into interesting sounds for consideration, it doesn't particularly translate into music for enjoyment. I appreciate the creativity and artistry, but I wouldn't listen to this album again. Also, a personal annoyance for me is when vocalists put on different accents to inhabit a character, it's so contrived and corny. Whilst listening I'm in the mindset of, well this is interesting. When it finishes I'm in the mindset of okay then, that certainly was an album that exists. Nothing sticks in mind. The album is such an onslaught of experimental quirkiness that you quickly become immune to the bizarre aspects of it, but in doing so, you become indifferent to it.
A bit dull - for her
A little too theatrical for my liking, but it certainly held my attention and I understand the love for the album (as well as the hatred).
My favorite Kate Bush album by far. It was wacky and weird and that’s what made it so different from her other albums on the list
Not as accessible as some of her other albums. It takes some time to get used to, but my experience is, that after a handful of listens, it gets so much better
Really theatrical, you have to be in the right mood for this one
I did not like this as much as I did Hounds of Love, but you can hear how she is finding her sound in this album. At the backend of Disco, and the start of british pop, this is a detraction away from both filled with lots of notable songs. I am not sure I would listen to it again, but I still enjoyed the listen. The second half of the album was significantly better and the standout song was either Night of the Swallow, or Get out of my House. 3.5 stars
Dreamy alt rock
Aw man, I really wanted to like this. I was so excited to see this was on the docket! Unfortunately all I could think about the whole time was that she sounds like Toad. Still very talented and the production was good, but I won't be returning. 6/10
Mid
too experimental for me to be able to get into it
This is a tough one. I’ve given it quite a few listens, and whether I enjoy it or not really depends on my mood. I can absolutely hear how influential this album was on a lot of later artists, but it’s so experimental and eccentric that you really have to be in the right mindset for it. Definitely not a very accessible album.
kind of faded into the background
This was pretty interesting, I'm just not really sure if I get it? It's just a lot of howling and moody instrumentals and stuff. Idk, will have to give it another listen sometime and see if I get anything else out of it.
Well, I’m not sure I enjoyed it, but I certainly wasn’t bored.
I like Kate Bush but this felt average to me. Maybe I’m just not in the headspace for it.
she's special!
On tää Bushi vähän erikoista.
I love Kate Bush so this was fun but it’s not a must listen imho.
#127/1001 🇬🇧 This isn't an album that i'm familliar with. I do like Kate Bush as a rule but this a more challenging listen this morning. I'm going to give it another spin later. 2 listens later, once in the car and then making dinner and it really grows. My wife even enjoyed it and she's not a fan. Best Tracks: Night of the Swallow, Sat in Your Lap, Suspended in Gaffa.
3.5/5
I'm trying to see the vision that is Kate Bush. It's a weird album but she really pulls it off. Not sure that I would listen to this one on repeat but I did enjoy some of the songs.
Very spicy and interesting, a whole album was a bit much maybe? But still very much enjoyed 3+
Silly Bush
I don't like the overwhelming majority of 80s pop music. This music on this album is no exception. However, she's getting a three because I like her voice.
She's has a very unique sound, somewhere in the middle for me
Felt like a far cry from Running Up That Hill. I was getting Elvis Costello vibes, which is never a good sign.
Definitely like the other Kate Bush album I got. Not that this one is bad, its kinda gives me Tom Waits vibes (and honestly preferred her over Waits), but the experimentalism wasn't working for me as much on this one as it did on Hounds of Love.
An important record, because it sets up Bush for a legendary run through the 80s. But on its own, The Dreaming is a little too weird for a lot of repeat listens.
An album that feels overproduced and lacking in the confidence Bush would later show in her exquisite follow-up: Hounds of Love. A few tracks, especially the closing "Get Out of My House," forecast the heights she will soon be going to. Most of the rest are the kind of hit or miss efforts of someone just starting to get her footing.
I love Kate Bush, but this one is wild and a lot of it is not worth a re-listen. Kind of sounds like an acid trip that gets progressively worse as the album continues. Still, I admire her ability to make music no one else will - or really can, for that matter.
Dreaming.
Limited doses
was at a bar recently while a karaoke night was going on and somebody tried to do a kate bush song. they botched it so badly it gave me a new greater respect for her ability overall. 3.5
Forgettable...
Not my favorite Kate Bush album, but still a vibe. One of the few albums so far in this project that I already had downloaded on my phone.
Not popping but ok, 5/10
Super experimental. Did not enjoy the oinking on the last track.
Mediocre
My second Kate Bush album after Hounds Of Love and while it didn’t knock my socks off like HOL did, I still enjoyed it overall. I’m unsure of the score because it took me a couple of tracks to fully get into it. Second listen will decide. Top Track - Night Of The Swallow
Last step before she unleashed the hounds.
Was going to give a four, but then the last song derailed it for me.
God she’s such a little freak. I LOVE HER
As one who is largely only aware of Running Up That Hill and having heard that song about a million times in the last few years cause of Stranger Things, I’m glad it wasn’t on this album.
I was very skeptical of the album when I listened the first song. As I listened to the album more it started to sound better. The album is totally theatrical and original. Favorite song: Leave It Open
We meet again, Kate Bush! Nice big album cover. Genuine train of thought: I hope this is the one where they go 🎵The Dre-aming is the hardest pa-rt 🎵. Oh no, that's Tom Petty, and it's not "dreaming", it's "waiting"? The album is gonna be a major disappointment. Compelling background music here (pianos and bloopbips) but somewhat annoying vocals in parts. PERE UBU-ESQUE even. If only a dour man could sing lead on this album instead. Let David Gilmour do it, he was crushing those BG vocals! I do like the lyrics, and I do like Kate Bush, but high pitched noises just stress me out, wacky singing included. I had no idea 'Suspended in Gaffa' was a cover (that is to say, I only knew the Ra Ra Riot version! which I do prefer, but of course I heard it first). In the end this was only a minor disappointment. Definitely very Kate Bush. Perhaps could improve on repeated listens, but I don't think I'm willing to put in the time. Highlights: "Some say that knowledge is oh-ho-ho-ho", 'Pull Out the Pin', 'Suspended in Gaffa' (good song)
Very theatrical album. I love Kate Bush. But this is a 3,5 for me.
Album well named. Very odd like dreams. It might rank higher on further listens but only have time for one time listens of all these albums
Good
Je trouve cet album beaucoup plus difficile d'accès.
Not as stand out as the other album of hers I listened to.
what the hell is happening here. This album is exceedingly loud and jarring to weird showtunes for a feature that doesnt exist. I appreciate her experimental nature, and some of these tracks arent bad, but the production feels so goofy. Surely someone was around to tell her to rein it in.
Kate Bush straddles the line between interesting and annoying and unfortunately this album strayed a little too far into the annoying. The biggest problem I had with this album was the sound mixing. For example… in the first song it’s just so in your face and aggressive sounding that it completely turned me off. It felt like my ears were being smacked around and I didn’t enjoy that. Also we’ve had 3 Kate Bush albums and we definitely didn’t need all 3
Has Kate bush grown on me with age? I enjoyed this, album it was more pop esque than I expected. I might go on a Kate bush binge and check out all albums
Unglaublich dass es mehr als 40 Jahre alt ist, holt mich trotzdem nicht so ab
Very unique sound
Way more experimental than I anticipated. Closer to ooingo boingo than the song on stranger things in my opinion. It caught me by such surprise it would probably take me a couple listens to get what's going on. For now I'll rate it in the middle and if I care enough I'll go back and change it
Best Song: Suspended In Gaffa. There is a sort of fey whimsy here that feels quite fun. Worst Song: There Goes a Tenner. Really not a fan of this faux-theatrical presentation style. Also, even though I know she's English, it sounds like she's affecting an English accent. Overall: I like that it has this weird, uncanny sound to it, I'm just not sure that I care for this specific flavour of weird. I can understand how someone might listen to this and love it, and I'm happy for them, but they are not me.
Wasn’t sure what to expect and not sure what to say after… a couple of listens and it seemed better listening another time around. Her sound and performances no doubt influenced many female artists.
some parts remind me of hank williams
this album feels like one big trip. I really like it when artists go completely crazy and Kate Bush fits the bill in an eerie way. The melody of the songs and such are great but I am sorry to those who worship her, I don't really love her voice in a lot of these songs to put it mildly. a 3 because I don't dislike it per say and because, as I said, I really like the vibe of these songs at least.
A couple good songs, but mostly an album that is not for me. Some weird stuff on the back half, too. 2.5 Stars
Ok
Fantastic voice. Really interesting.
This is different. I'm not really sure what to think of it. The instrumentation and expression is creative... not totally sold on the songwriting. Seems like a lot of interesting moments but nothing really clicks into a "good song" and not something I'd probably choose to listen to regularly. Pretty strange.
Kate Bush sounds like an overly imaginative 8-year old girl who spends her time locked in her bedroom of her family’s country estate with mostly a set of drums, a piano and her very wild sense of fantasy and intrigue. She talks to her dolls and herself and claims that her puppets are her best friends, probably because her parents are nowhere to be found. The 3 1/2 hour extravaganza show she’s created with and starring them is wild and shockingly Shakespeare-esque! The service staff accept her eccentricities and either encourage her out of pity or they just roll their eyes when she walks away. This is not a diss review. This mindset creates some intense shit and has the capability of pushing humanity forward mentally and emotionally. It also doesn’t mean that what she creates is good either. I guess my simple take on this album is that it is just REALLY FUCKING WEIRD, but hard not to pay attention to it. Props for being brave enough to let her inner voices and hidden demons scream and shout it all out. 3/5
Album 116. The Dreaming (https://open.spotify.com/album/1gRJsaJ7ExC9Q9YdB9ZMC5?si=eg7BWyd0RIawzv2wZPEjGw) — Kate Bush (1982) I can admit, listening to Kate Bush a lot is tough. And not just because of her voice. This one is tough because of the experiments and oddity of the album. I don't know how to rate it. Initially I wanted to give it 2 out of 5, but I understood there are many more layers and this music needs time. This is a hardly accessible album 3/5 Liked songs: — Pull Out The Pin — Night Of The Swallow
I really liked Kate Bush's other album here on the list (or at least the only other one I've seen so far), but this one was a little too... out there for me. It was alright, and the writing and performance from Bush were on point, but I guess the musical style was just a little too different from what I'm used to. A little too medieval, maybe? It was alright, but when it was over, I was kinda glad. Three stars.
She has some amazing songs, but a little goes a long way for me!
I liked this a lot. I really like when she gets weird.
This was like fairy tale music - felt like it belongs in Alice in Wonderland. Cool & unusual
Saucy prog-pop! There's a lot going on, only some of it is great but at least all of it is distinctive. Favourite tracks: Pull Out The Pin, Suspended in Gaffa, The Dreaming
Vocina simpatica, ma è stata solo una meteora ... le concedo comunque tre stelle.
As much as I like Kate Bush, that's enough of that.
Sounds much more folk like than rock.
Was listening to this while on a walk on holiday in a warm country and honestly this shit was so insane I started thinking I was experiencing heat stroke and hallucinating this lol. But it was alright regardless. 3 stars
Ранее уже была знакома с работами Кейт Буш и песни были очень хороши как по тексту так и по звучанию. Однако этот альбом просто не мое...
I admire her, but this is more challenging than I like my music to be. It's like a cross between Bjork and Les Mis. Too experimental electronica for musical theater, too musical theater for experimental electronica.
She’s one of a kind
Ah nice, I got another one of Kate Bush's albums a week or so ago. Overall, not a bad album, but there were a few songs that were quite weird. I would say that I maybe enjoyed one or two in the beginning of the album nad then it was a bit meh. It's overall alright for leaving it in the background while you're doing something else.
Lots of emo screaming
Super interesting intro song. Very Bowie-esque, very unique instrumentation, and fun play with vocals. Being picky I kind of wish there was just a little less compression on the master bus as it feels a bit squeezed and the dynamic level is a little bit narrow for how up and down she really gets. There's so many colors and flavors on this record. The second song gives so much and then around the 2 minute mark you get a cool fretless bass sound. It's like they just kept adding and adding interesting sounds and saw what stuck. I really dig it. Would make for some great re-listens.
Average.
This is a very experimental album for her. It's pretty good.
Quite theatrical and campy.
I don’t get the hype. She didn’t seem like a big deal in the 80s. Only time I heard of her was the duet with Peter Gabriel. Resurgence with the stranger things placement and use of song. Certainly has a unique voice but seems more theatrical than anything. Boring record
Kate Bush is weird and I don't totally understand her. Hopefully I will someday. 3 *
Definitely not my favorite Kate Bush Album, a bit bombastic and half baked.
So refreshing and full of whimsy, avoiding the pop tropes of its day.
Why does the opening song have a toad from mario in it
Not quite the kick inside
It was interesting.
Probably a 2.5 for me. None of the songs stood out. Disappointing as the few Kate Bush hits I know are great.
Kate Bush's very avant-garde approach to music can draw people in. I've always liked her hits, but it's taken me a bit to actually get through the album. That's a testament to the focus I need to actually push through. I feel like it'll grow on me in time.
Whimsical
WTF war "Houdini"? Kate Bush versucht Metal, oder was? xD Nicht ihr bestes Album find ich
War okay, nicht so mein Fall, aber auch nicht granatenscheiße
The first part gave me rocky horror picture show vibe. Felt ahead of its time a bit, but I could be wrong.
Embora eu não seja fã, Kate Bush é muito talentosa. Dos seus trabalhos prefiro Lionheart. É um bom álbum, bem teatral. É preciso estar num estado de espírito específico pra ouvir. Destaque pra "Night of the Swallow". 3,5
Goofy ahh album but creative nonetheless
I think this is a good album but unfortunately it’s not for me.
Kate Bush once tried to join Houmous & Chutney. It was almost confirmed until Ken Chutney discovered her plans to break the legendary duo up and start a new band Chutney, Bush & Donovan. Ken was having none of it. Kate then wrote this album about the entire situation. They remained friends and still laugh about it all now. Still to this day, no one knows which Donovan it was going to be! 3.2 9/10 Houdini
Quite enjoyed this album, really liked half the tracks. Such an unusual voice.
Non ho ascoltato le ultime tre canzoni, ma è un lavoro sicuramente interessante, lei ha una voce dal timbro particolare e le canzoni sono belle. Kate Bush da approfondire. Buon Natale!!
Have stay, I enjoyed this some songs much for than others, but this is an experimental album done well. I feel like with more time I would enjoy this album even more. Debated giving it a 4, but honestly think it’s a honest 3 at this time. Great intro to Kate Bush, I will be listening to more of her music.
на любителя.
Kate Bush is coo
Eccentric, experimental. Like it a lot.
Definitely very weird and innovative. A couple of good tracks, glad I listened to it.
Generally alright. There are moments where I'm really digging what's going on and then the music gets weirdly cacophonous or discordant and it takes me right out. I can what Bush is doing, but it's not for me. I say this as someone who generally likes post-punk and experimental stuff, but eh, you don't have to love it all.
No more please pretty please. Ok, so I find the old Kate's bush joke funny, but music wise no. Currently enjoying some Big Time Senuality with Bjork
Was hoping for more, but felt a bit middle of the road
If I had a nickel for every experimental pop album by a woman I received in the last week, I'd have two nickels. That isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. That said, the above-mentioned coincidence isn't as weird as this album. The vocal histrionics on display are a bit off-putting, but it isn't horrible. It's definitely not boring(thank God!) but I'd rather listen to the Bjork album I had 2 days prior. I do like the sound of the percussion and piano, but the vocals don't do much for me. Perhaps her other albums rely less on vocal histrionics and experimentation and more on somewhat more mainstream pop tunes, which will likely be more palatable to me anyway. As it stands, this is pretty mediocre.
It's an odd album, like she got to do whatever and she released a concept album that Tori Amos heard and went, "I can do this." It's not bad it just kinda out there. Like it requires a few differ listens to grab it all. Might need to read the lyrics during one of the playthroughs. Interesting stuff. I can see this being a musicians favorite and it never getting any airplay.
She seems like an insane person in the best way. The vocals were all over the place and made a somewhat dull album very expressive. "Get out of my house" is absolutely unhinged.
This is kind of a cool album, and as much as I enjoy unusual music, for some reason it wasn't for me.
beautiful and weird
Extremely surreal listening experience. Not always a fan of Kate Bush’s excessive vocal theatrics but definitely worth a listen. Interesting to find that Kate Bush had a greater hand in producing on this record compared to her previous work. The production and instrumentation gave an incredibly dream-like feel and the eeyoring at the end felt like a deliberate nod to A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Underbar liten musikalvärld att kliva in i.
Suspended in Gaffa va, vilken mörsare. Sen lyfter det inte riktigt efter det.
This is a wild one. I really wanted to like it. I appreciate it for what it is but it’s pretty noisy.
Kæit Busj baner vei. Prøvd mye rart hu her…
Hounds of Love was so good. But this just wasn't it. Squeaky mickey mouse chorus parts were harsh and hard to digest. Monotonous melodies against new wave rythmns and pop song structures was a triple threat of boring. I really wanted to like it because again Hounds was an awesome album. But this kinda stunk.
Mistaken for a tree? What the fuck? Kate Bush is weird. 3
Experimental pop with 80s flair. It’s certainly an album that showcases Kate’s talent of mixing and singing. I would need to let this grow on me as it is a lot to absorb. Good and bad thing.
Took me a while to get into it. Very strange at times but it grew on me.
Wow, this album was like a fever dream. It’s definitely not the typical pop drivel. I haven’t fully digested it yet, I feel like that would take multiple listens, but there is definitely something deeper here. I’m getting almost like female Pink Floyd vibes. It’s like there’s a concept here that I haven’t discovered yet. Very unique.
Kate bush is not to my taste apparently.
I preferred it to hounds of love or whatever but some of the end songs aren't it
Definitely enjoyable. Tori Amos owes her some royalty checks.
Fine. They are clearly an immensely talented artist, but for whatever reason their music never grabbed me.
Cover 7.5 I have to be in a specific mood to listen to this album. Somewhat experimental. Melodic carnival, big tent music, if that means anything. That's not meant to be an insult. Probably won't mean much to most people. For me, it's a good thing but very specific for a specific time and mood. Anyway, only one or two songs work for me. The test are ok. Overall, that is, Bush's catalog in general, I do like several songs, but one or two per album. So far, I've never connected with an entire album from Bush.
Not her best but I liked what she was trying to do.
After hearing two other Kate Bush albums, I am a bit nervous to hear her "less commercial" album on the list. I didn't consider her music to be commercial in the first place. The Dreaming is not commercial, so that part is correct. It is a fairly beautifully produced album with so many sounds that the listener would have to listen multiple times to take in all the music. It reminds me a bit of some of Lindsay Buckingham's solo music, which straddles the line between artsy and pop-music. Kate Bush is more comfortable jumping over the line into artsy rock and not making music that is easy to listen to. This album is challenging, no doubt. The background vocals are often more a high-pitched screech at times than I am used to. I'm pretty sure there are donkey noises at the end of Get Out of My House. Houdini was easily my least favorite song. My favorite songs were: Sat In Your Lap The Tenner Pull Out the Pin (though it is too long and the "I love life(?)" scream in the background could get annoying) The Dreaming All the Love
Very strange. I don't know what I was expecting.
Pop with expressive voice. 3,3
Not going to be in the regular rotation for me but I respect it as a piece of art
You good, Kate? Honestly wasn't sure what to make of this for a while. It's got such a strange tone and sensibility to it. Weird synth sounds and sound effects, odd voices coming from Bush as though she were doing a character, and seemingly strange topics. Oh and the screaming on "Pull Out the Pin." This felt more like an abstract art piece you'd hear as an installation in a museum and less like a pop music album. That isn't a bad thing. In fact, I found it refreshingly interesting than a lot of other albums on this list. It isn't formulaic. You can't predict what's coming next. And everything she puts into this helped to create a sense that this was a genuine, heartfelt expression of emotion and thought from Kate Bush. That is rarer than it should be from a pop album, and I appreciated it very much. Is it my thing? Would I listen again? Probably not. But it held my attention for longer than some other albums and I applaud her for her innovative and creative approach to music. I'm sure it was seen as even more innovative and creative in its time. I'd be shocked if it didn't push boundaries in 1982. Three stars. Standout Tracks: Sat in Your Lap, There Goes a Tenner, Pull Out the Pin
Theatrical and powerful. Reminds me of Bjork. Definitely unique. A refreshing perspective, albeit quite odd.
Rock, 1982 -> 3
It’s like Kate Bush leading you through a bad trip. Well made, very interesting but I wouldn’t say I had a good time.
Wow. Definitely more... cinematic(?) than some of her other projects. I've heard Hounds of Love and The Sensual World already, and what I think those did better was show a bit of restraint with the level of experimentation. In The Dreaming, that factor is a little on-the-nose. It still has all the markers of utterly Bushian magic and wonder, but there's something kind of unpredictable, alien, almost grotesque about some of the songs here, which wash over you one after the other like a musical. There Goes A Tenner even has the sort of music-hall-production arrangement, what with the muted upright piano, brass section, and incredibly dramatised vocals. Sometimes it works, and you have no idea how; it just does. The grotesqueness I'm talking about peaks at around the time of Leave It Open, with its reversed high vocal harmonies, various weird looping techniques, and so on. It's like she's trying to make her music inaccessible. I completely understand some of the 1-star reviews here. Weird for the sake of weird might fly for some listeners, but not most. Including me. Other questionable moments include the end of Get Out Of My House (less cool than reviewers are making it out to be) and all of the preceding track, Houdini. I can't help but feel that this is too weird for a first listen, and subsequent listens will let me adore this project. That seems to be the case for some other reviewers. Just stick with it, right? Well, first impressions are important too. 3/5 Key tracks: Sat In Your Lap, Suspended In Gaffa, Night Of The Swallow
Favorite Track: Pull Out The Pin
First listen
Out there. Ahead of her time. Thinks she influenced Amanda Palmer.
Pas un gros fan de Kate Bush, mais ça passe bien
Sounds like Chinese opera. Overall creative but just not my vibe.
I struggle to rate this one. An interesting album by an interesting artist, and I'm sure it would benefit from a few listens...but I somehow doubt I'll revisit it
Myös Bushin kohdalla taivun popimpien levyjen diggariksi, mut onhan tällä vankka sija taidepopin maailmassa. En oo kaikista ratkaisuista niin iloinen mutta ei mun tarvitsekaan olla. 3/5
Wow! This is Kate Bush at her most art house! I have listened to quite a bit Kate Bush but never this album. This could take a few listens to fully appreciate. That being said I have rated each album after 1 listen so far so must carry on that system. So it may seem low but I can see it being higher with time as it quite a hard listen the first time around.
Listened to it while playing csgo, was alright not a good album for having in the background tho
It's a little goofy, not gonna lie. It's not as good as Madvillainy.
I love Kate Bush but she defs has better albums
So unhinged, loved getting lost in the weirdness of this album
Some pipes on your wan. Not my favourite songs by her but definitely an interesting album
This whole album felt like Kate Bush was trying to put Kate Bush herself, trying a bit hard to be kooky and experimental. Wasn't absolutely blown away by this, but it's an incredible feat of fuckery putting the best song on the album (Night Of The Swallow) directly after the worst song on the album (The Dreaming). Her vocals are crazy good throughout, songwriting suffered on a few tracks, but overall NAT TOO SHABBY
While I do agree that this album does get better with the more listens, for me at least, the curve when the album seems to be getting slightly better and better just goes stagnant and it hits a plateau. I respect and admire the creative risks taken in this. You can even hear the influence this album had on the next generation of female artists. Something about this album perplexes me because as far as the artistic direction it is great, but when I put it all together the lack of cohesion makes me feel distant. Overall, this was a GOOD album. Top 3: Suspended In Gaffa, Leave It Open, and Night Of The Swallow 2.75-3.25/5
I like Kate Bush generally but this was maybe too much of a good thing? Maybe I'm not destined for an entire album? Three songs in I was like "Yeah!" By the end I was smoked.
Scary voice.
The first half of this album isn't really my jam, but there are a lot of cool tracks in the second half. Favorite track: Night of the Swallow
# Album Name: the dreaming # Artist: kate bush # Rating: 3/5 # Comments: a very out there experimental. especially compared with hounds of love - which i thought was amazing. A few good songs. Very experimental compared to what i was expecting. This could be a grower. But for now its a 3. # Top Tunes: Sat in your lap / Tenner / Gaffa / The dreaming # Would I listen to it again? Probably.
Interesting pick for my first ever exposure to KB. I had a to look it up honestly to see if all her stuff was like this and was relieved/intrigued to figure out this is on her far experimental end.
Honestly this sounds like peak cocaine. The instrumentation of the early 80s (fairlight cmi, etc) but abrupt structural shifts of 70s prog. "There Goes A Tenner" is fun and despite the cockney imitation it sounds like it was probably inspired by The Asphalt Jungle (1950) or something near-identical in plot. I'm not sure what to do with the title track. The concept (destruction of Aboriginal lands in pursuit of uranium) is both strong and well-intentioned but the fact that the song started out with an accidentally racially offensive title shows that Kate was working at or past the limits of her cultural competence. The lyrics to Houdini are great. Gothic ghostly romances are her home territory.
Good album to have on in the background, although was a bit more eclectic than I was expecting. Not necessarily a bad thing but means a few songs caught me off guard. A nice listen overall with a few surprises in it.
Super sperimentale, soprattutto nella seconda metà (non mi aspettavo del growl). Indubbiamente un bel disco, ma non incontra i miei gusti, nel complesso, anche se un paio di pezzi sono molto belli
Very strange, or, uhh, "eclectic", haha. Pretty fun listen, but not something I'd be reaching for often.
Kate bush has recorded some of my all time favorite songs. Unfortunately, none of them are on this album.
I enjoyed this more the second time I listened to it, while skimming through the lyrics. Sat In Your Lap is a pretty aggressive way to start this album, but it’s funny how quickly you can adjust to Kate Bush’s particular brand of avant- pop. The songs are strange and mystical, and I can definitely hear her influence on Bjork, who I’m a fan of. Would I put this album on outside the context of this challenge? Probably not, but I’d be happy for some of these songs to show up on a playlist. I appreciate the weirdness and creativity. Favourite songs: There Goes a Tenner, Suspended in Gaffa, Night of the Swallow
Kate Bush really lives up to her art pop star reputation on this one. This album is delightfully weird and abrasive... but also catchy. It's right up my alley. But I just don't have time to appreciate it fully. It's a lot to take in on a first listen. It doesn't sound like any other album I can think of. It's very frantic piano music. The vocals are wild. Sometimes it's gentle singing, sometimes it's full on screams, sometimes it's weird falsettos, sometimes she has a strong accent. She's really throwing her voice all over the place. The piano/synths are sometimes pretty, and sometimes weird and cheesy. It has a mix of 70s and 80s vibes... which gives it a sort of transitionary vibe? I think I prefer the songs on this to the songs on hounds of love, but i think i prefer the overall sound of hounds of love more in that Kate fully embraces the 80s but also makes it her own. I really like.... Suspended in Gaffa - that falsetto vocal line "i want it all" is stuck in my head. The jaunty rhythm is very hypnotic. I really like this track. Sat in Your Lap - I love the wild passionate vocal delivery on this track. Night of the Swallow - that descending pre chorus into the ascending chorus, so epic. I swear there is bagpipe or some other sort of celtic horns on this track. So good. I'm not sure about... Houdini - the wild screaming, exaggerated vocals are a lot. I don't know how I feel. I do like the haunting instrumentation though. Get out of my house - the Eeeeyooo vocal line at the end is just so bizarre. Really messes with my memory of the song. Made me laugh out loud at first. I didn't like... The dreaming - i don't like her putting on that thick accent. I know she's english... but it just sounds not good. It sounds like a shitty experimental sea shanty Side note: I do think the vocal stylings influenced someone like Lingua Ignota. The wild ghoulish screaming. This is a 3 for me but with more listens it could very well become a 4. I'm definitely grabbing a couple of these songs for playlists.
Is it a 3? Is it a 2? Every other song had me ping-ponging back and forth. I’d like a song ok or think there was a great bridge in it, then the next song she’d growl (like a hound of love?) and I just couldn’t do it. I think, on balance, it’s a 3. I really liked “night of the swallow.” I really disliked the donkey impression that ended the album. Such is the duality of this album.
For the early 80s, a pretty interesting, intriguing sound. Better than expected. But I think this is an album you need to grow up with, or it needs time to grow on you. I don’t doubt its value but my 3/5 is where it sits for me for the foreseeable future.
I wonder how many 80s bands would explode if they just rerecord or remixed their albums without the 80's synth toolkit. This is definitely true for me with Kate Bush. While it still bears some 80s sound influences, it is early. And I just enjoyed it better than her commercially successful follow-up.
Not my favorite Kate Bush Album
Kate Bush had her whole little moment a few years back, and I was pretty happy to see her come up. Listening: -This s a bit jarring at the start. High drama here. -I swear if you wanted to do an over the top mocking british accent, "There Goes a Tenner" would still feel a bit much -Suspended in Gaffa--here the album really feels like it comes into its own. Good stuff. -The dreamer has a nice idiosyncratic rhythm to it. Review: This album is real weird. I liked it, but found it a bit too dissonant at times. 3.5 rounding down
Bush's vocal control and ability to manipulate her voice is on full display throughout the album, even if it isn't always a pleasant sound (e.g., her Toad voice in "Suspended in Gaffa"). You have to recognize the technical artistry of what Bush is capable of. Interestingly, the title track seems like it wants to condemn her native Britian's colonial past. However, Bush does it in ways that may not hold up to today's expectations of what that looks like. For instance, "The Dreaming" co-opts Aboriginal sounds, but doesn't really have any aboriginal artists. That probably would have been fine in the 80s (and is definitely a feature of the musical legacies that Bush is part of), but it's not great now. This leads into a song that is heavily Celtic influenced, which felt like an intentional choice by an artist living through The Troubles. 3.5 stars, rounding down to 3 for not aging the best.
Weird for sure, I liked some of it, had a hard time staying with it though.
Her operatic voice and writing style is pretty wack. Obviously, she's much more famous for a major hit, but she's written some other amazing songs on other albums that show off her sing talent. Way more than this album although this album is thematic and consistent it's just not my thing.
Not a big Kate Bush fan but she’s got some good music and she’s a great songwriter/musician.
An eccentric, musical theatresque album filled with catchy piano melodies and unique vocals.
I was in the aftermath of my divorce with my second wife. I was in a church with my grandmother. People were pointing and starring ar me. One was my 2nd wife's sister. Then out of abaxkroom or maybe I'm in a backroom I see my ex-wife. She's accusing me of following her. I sit dumbfounded bc I hadn't seen or thought of her in months. I leave with my grand mother. We pull into the parking lot of of a apartment complex right next to a giant tree. She gets out of the car. I start to follow her then don't. She's wearing all black. She says nothing and runs into the complex. Somehow I'm behind her and she has a machine gun and firing it. I don't see anyone else but I run back to the car. And sit. I'm all in black now and behind me is machine gun fire. Then a cop pulls right up next the car on the other side of the tree. I see my grandmother come out with a giant stack of board games and vhs' that are falling over and gets in the car. I'm terrified of going to jail. All the people from the church start showing up and the parking lot is full. I notice my medicine bottle is almost empty and I'll need a refill soon. I'm even more terrified. I look over to my grandmother and tell her 'you have to tell them I'm not a part of this. I didn't know you were going to do this." She says "I can't do that it's not part of my book" I say what book? The one that's in heaven. She looks scared. I think of withdrawal and I'm terrified. I woke up in a garage. There was a television show on an old crtv with Jason Bateman and Jennifer Anniston listen to either true crime or ghost stories on a walkie talkie. The lights in the garage where slowly going on then off. My mom came out to the garage and I asked her if this was normal. She asked me if anyone else could see the lights. Was it sending a signal? I said I don't know. I suddenly got a wave of anxiety and started checking the prescription refills on my medicine bottles but couldn't read them.
It was ok, but another I wouldn’t be rushing back to listen to. Alright background music
A different album. I love Kate Bush, but I don't like to be screamed at, even by her.
6 / 10 - I feel like I should be rating this album as it is extremley unique and artistic, however, it just didnt really captivate me, sorry Kate :(
Got a little too odd in the second half to bring home the 4
I've been waiting for a Kate Bush album! I'd never heard of her before Running Up That Hill went viral. Bit odd, but I don't hate it. After three listens, I don't really like it, either. I am looking forward to the other two albums on the list that are more commercial and less expiremental.
I'm really not a Kate Bush fan I'm discovering. This album is fine but nothing standout for me. The vibes are just a little strange.
The worst part about this album is that I just found out that Clipse released their first album in 15 years, and Travis Scott also released a new album this week. I'd much rather be listening to those albums, so I'm kind of listening to this like a kid eats his broccoli. Overall, it's pretty OK. It's weird, not your typical 80s pop sound, so that's endearing. I'd probably give it a 2.5 if I could.
Weird, but not in a bad way.
Where is Cloudbusting? Where is Hounds of Love? Where is Wuthering Heights?? It's fine but it's not very fun compared to other works :(
A hidden gem! Enjoyed the listen. Have heard of her, but never heard her music.
Quite the ride. Lots of sounds I haven't heard before. At some points I didn't know if I was listening to a spoof album or something from Disney. Overall it had it engaged and I wouldn't turn it off if it was on.
I’ve listened to some other Kate Bush before, and it feels like this is the album that a lot of her reputation from when I was a kid comes from. It’s ok, but not as good as some of her other work. You can see the massive influence this one had on Tori Amos and the swine Amanda Palmer. Also her Australian accent on the song The Dreaming might be considered a hate crime
English 80s art rock. Her most experimental album. Bonkers. Regina Spektor definitely drew from this. Whimsical and catchy.
Weird, baffling, but cool and daring.
Some weird interesting sounds. Not always into that 80s pop style but it was unique and weird in a way I enjoy
I liked it... different and pretty creative. Theatric arrangements. I started listening to it on the day it was first assigned to me, and I knew it was good but I was super tired and knew I wouldn't be open to it, so I saved it for when I knew I would be more receptive. Glad I did that.
Not at all what I was expecting. Very strange and experimental. Almost does feel like a dream with the cryptic lyrics and the production that see-sawd between very bare and very loud. Not entirely my thing, and has parts that don’t click with me, but has enough bright spots and interesting ideas for me to appreciate it.
Rv/g
I really hoped I would be into Kate Bush. This is the second time I've been served one of her albums and TBH it's just not working for me!
I am aware that this is one of Kate Bush's less popular albums and I find her style confronting at the best of times. However, this was weird and experimental-feeling enough that actually I kind of liked it. Rating: 3
There are albums that I gotten here that I know what to rate the moment they end and there are albums that I have no idea how to rate. This album is part of the latter. I kind of wanted to like this. I don’t know shit about Kate Bush (outside of that song, you know the one), so I was hoping this would be a great start. But to be real with you, I couldn’t get a handle of this and a large chunk of it was because of Kate’s vocals. They’re all over the place, changing pitch and tone constantly. Sometimes she’s high-pitched and delicate and other times she’s fucking screaming like she’s in a metal band. I know Kate is talented and this is a personal gripe, but I didn’t care for her style here. Also, this album doesn’t feel really too experimental. Like, it’s in this in between where it’s coherent, but not easily assessable. This could have been great. I would love me some catchy 80’s progressive pop with some quirkiness. But really, I found this only okay. I’m hoping this wasn’t a bad start for me for Kate Bush and that this was just a weird exception. Favorite track: Houdini Other hits: Get Out of My House (minus the donkey noises), Pull Out the Pin, Suspended in Gaffa, The Dreaming
Pretty good
An album that sows off Kate Bush's rtier side. Melodies are hard to discern, hooks non-existent. The vois=ce is powerful and emotional but aultmately I wait for a song or two that is more accessible to help draw me in. But it doesn't ever come. Respect the artistic statement but I don't enjoy the work. 3 stars
I can appreciate that this album is trying to be different. I think Bush can use her voice in a unique and interesting way. However, the music did not really sit that well with me.
Quite enjoyed the first song, i liked the switch from 6/8 to 4/4. The album as a whole was also enjoyable, but didn't really enjoy her sometimes overuse of effects, even though it was quite fun and original.
3/5 for this album but 4/5 for Kate Bush and her overall weird vibe. Great moments here but a little off the rails. May grow on me over time.
If you get lost in a dark wood and kidnapped by an evil witch, when you awaken in her dungeon and she takes a sort of venomous liking to you - she will explain herself through song in a manner very similar to this album. I actually kind of like it in small doses. In other moments I feel like I’m about to get baked into a pie.
Sean, feel like you summoned this album with your plead for more boundary pushing. This was wild. I really only know Running Up that Hill, from its recent resurgence. From what I’ve read this is the double black diamond of Kate Bush albums. The most experimental and least accessible. Not a lot I’m going to come back to on its own. If I end up listening to more Kate Bush, I may find more appreciation for this in context. Get Out of My House and Suspended in Gaffa stand out.
This selection is revealing as to the demographics of the list editors. I am guessing white Gen x men from UK. It's not bad, just boring and time has not bolstered it's stature, let's just say.
if pre-eclipse griffith was a fuckin album
Not a massive Kate Bush fan but some interesting stuff going on here…
As this is a full notch below her other entries on this list, it makes sense that it never sold. One's a fan but doesn't hear much here to get excited about – it's all too theatrical, melodramatic, stiff, non-flowing and excessively arty. Her view that it was a "she's gone mad" record shows considerable (and admirable) self-knowledge. It would seem that the "KB is the female Bowie" theory applies equally to the lowlights as well as the highlights.
Odd!
Not a Kate Bush fan. Don't like her voice. This is much too theatrical for me. Not bad enough for a 2 but definitely not for me.
I cant say I needed a 3rd Kate Bush album even if it is refreshing to see a female artist again. I don't think the production aged well at all, but I'm guessing this sounded pretty otherworldly at the time of its release
Not horrible, just worse than expected, but enough to remain above a 2 I suppose, but still an insult to other albums that I ranked 3.
I couldn't really connect to this music. I can see how this album would be really important to folks though; it evokes a primal, almost repressed feeling--like someone wanting to escape from a structure of music that wasn't built for them, but they don't have the tools to do it. Railing against the patterns of chords and repetitive percussive elements, Kate Bush belts, hollers, and sometimes brays like a donkey to create a dissonance that rails against the structure of the music. I don't say that to be insulting in any way, it's just true and I respect the artistic decision to go there. If I were to listen to this album again, I would want to be deeply engaged in a creative process where I had to confront complicated, almost violent feelings. I would lean on Kate's vocals to carry me through my frustrations with the process and remind myself that the art is in fact found in the pain of that process. As a listener, it's difficult for me to parse the lyrics, so I would run this back another time and see if I can appreciate the poetry of her words. If anything, this album really sparked my curiosity and I'd love to discuss this work with a fan.
I really wanted to like this but it was just ok
Enigmatic and odd - pretty compelling but short on hooks and memorable melodies. Probably deserves another listen or two to really get my head around it
Yea it was weird and I definitely wasn't digging portions of this joint. But I would be remiss if I didn't point out that there are some things that work for me and I think the commitment to exploring unique sounds is ultimately a win in the long term for music and for Bush
First time listening to an entire Kate Bush album. Not sure where I am at with it, will need another listen for sure.
As whimsical and dreamy as ever, Kate Bush shows that her voice is an emotive, tonal instrument as much as it is the vehicle for singing lyrics. “There Goes a Tenner” has a fun jumpy piano melody while Kate Bush surely lays out the vocal blueprint not just for this album, but surely for Björk as well. The 3:45 mark of “Pull Out The Pin” continues that super impressive vocal work in the way Bush dramatically screams “I love life!” over and over. The title track has the most compelling story on here, about the forced assimilation and destruction of Aboriginal life in Australia. The instrumental passage at the end of this track is stunning! It’s easily my favorite on the record and totally worth a few listens. Strong 3 on this one, if I go back and listen to it more I could see myself converting to a 4/5!
3/4
Meh. When Kate hits the spot she's amazing, but with the exception of 'Sat in your lap' noke of these tracks really do anything for me, and the awful cockney/Australian impressions on a couple of tracks do NOT stand up. Hounds Of Love is undeniably a classic, but this falls short. Just about scrapes a 3 because it's not awful, and SIYL is a brilliant opener.
This album had some crazy highs and crazy lows. When Kate Bush is at her best on this album, the songs are amazing, but sadly many songs are just downright annoying. This album kicked off with two really bad songs, then got good for a while, before ending on another down note.
BUSH! A bit too much bush for me. Really like Suspended in Gaffa but majority of album not really growing on me - despite repeated listens over several days .
Basically a nice album by a very good singer with an incredible voice. But it's still by far not as good as Hounds Of Love.
Very weird album, but not bad weird, just…. Odd.
I thought Kate Bush's remarkable voice was great in many of her songs, even if she sometimes uses it on the edge of being caustic. I've never heard a whole album from her before. So this is the first. As I said, a remarkable voice, but this time more often on the wrong side of caustic. I didn't like the album. It's possible that this is her most experimental album. But who says experiments have to be successful? From my point of view, this one is a failure. 3/5
A favorite of a bunch of artists I love. But it never gels for me. Maybe you had to be there? Or maybe it'll gel someday. I do love the thicc 80s drums though.
Kate Bush somehow manages to sound ahead of her time and also of her time at the same time. I really liked the layered, back and forth vocals on a few of the tracks and the synths were pretty great. It’s a weird record, like prog-pop or something. Good, but I’m not sure I’ll be revisiting.
Not her best. Still good.
Profoundly strange yet hugely creative. Didn't know what to think.
Like her unique voice
I could give this anywhere between 1 and 5 stars. I’m not a huge avant garde pop fan but I recognise how important it is to have this music pushing the genre to interesting places. Ultimately for me, she doesn’t quite tip her experimentation into a compelling hit in this album.
To be honest I do like Kate Bush i think she is avant garde theatrical creative and cool. I am definitely more of a hounds of love Kate Bush fan, This was cool to listen to but i doubt i will buy the vinyl or revisit it.
This is the third Kate Bush album I've had so far on this project, and it's the first one I didn't hate. Although that goes a long way, I didn't love it either.
I don't think I've heard "early" Kate Bush before, not outside of "Babooshka" at least. This is very much one of her more experimental releases. Everything is avant-garde in an instrumental sense, and Bush's unique vocals in addition to the unsettling vocal loops featured in almost every track make for a very...interesting listen I'll say. To quote the outro lines from the fifth track: "We let the weirdness in". I think that's a pretty apt description for what I just witnessed.
Vocal pop display From carnival heights down to Feral haunting growls
I enjoyed it a good amount. It was a good bit better than I expected. It has some interesting experimental elements.
uhh kate bush nomal! hahaha omg wie nervig, aber au sehr cool seg ihres experimentellste album? sat in your lap bestätigt das bis jz die nächste 2 lieder würdi jz nöd behaupte, dass sie mier würkli gfalled, aber find d kreativität und eifach d weirdness sehr cool wie sie I love life schreit soo geil hahah barocki kate!! das irische lied hani na funny gfunde all the live sehr schön! find de bass seehr cool ich find sooo cool wie sie ihres schreie ihsetzt jaa mega cools und komischs album. chan nöd sege, dass ich de grossteil vode lieder per se "gnosse" han aber definitiv es 3
Not quite sure what to make of this one I enjoyed it somewhat
Typical Kate.
I can never tell if I’m going to love or hate listening to Kate Bush. It changes day by day. This go around on this one was kind of a neutral experience for me.
very good
Challenging, lush, interesting.
