I need a 1-10 scale. Better than a 3, not as good as a 4.
I liked the unexpected instrumental interludes. The rest was Aerosmith. 3.5
biked to this, that was fun . Its catchy here and there and like the upbeat energy.
Pretty good rock album. It feels like canonical, but forgettable, rock.
Nah. Not a fan of this style of music
Riff-heavy 80s rock. Was a fairly decent listen
3.5
Nothing special really.
A couple of really great songs here. And then, a lot of disposable ones as well.
Du rock efficace, du type crowd-pleaser, mené par un Steven Tyler qu'on ne peut imaginer qu'échevelé
its almost kind of a relief to confirm that aerosmith are indeed, or certainly were at this point, a WEIRD weird band. their approach here is extremely dense and hyperactive and exhausting, with a sort of fidgety twitchy energy even in the less traditionally rocky songs...essentially led zepplin 2 overclocked to the point of exploding. for a 48 minute record this style is rly pushing it for me personally...im not sure the musical information itself is rich enough to carry me thru such a battering (tho i think they are at least trying), esp with their whole hard rock self-aggrandizing horny rancid vibes...more than being offputting, im not sure theres anything actually interesting in it. all of this also kinda ties into steven tyler and like. i dont know if i like him as a performer tbh but he's certainly memorable, and perhaps everything has to be this overly pronounced just be heard over him. this is definitely not for me in aesthetic or listening experience, but it doesnt contain any of the aerosmith singles that i hate (the previous album contains most of those) and i do have a respect for its wild frenzy , this aint no boring mid tempo stompy hard rock. i even embarrassingly kind of like what it takes...the aforementioned ingredients lend an interesting chemical composition to ballady tracks
This was a fun listen. Good ol’ classic rock vibes but overly sexed up. Janie’s Got a Gun and Don’t Get Mad Get Even were the highlights for me.
Every song is basically a pick-up line in leather pants.
A classic
Great album that takes the bluesy stomp of 70’s Aerosmith with the glossy 80’s production and songwriting assistance. Does it lose the authenticity of 70’s Aerosmith? Of course. Are they enjoyable poppy rock songs? Absolutely.
Some great jamz and some fillers. This album took them to another level. Not my favorite in their catalog, but still very enjoyable, nonetheless.
I hate the sounds he makes at the beginning of janies got a gun
The hits really hit but didn’t love the space between.
Don’t love the “hard rock cafe” genre of music, but not terrible. My parents really liked this.
Felt generic to me... Couple good tunes but sounds a bit to much like radio music to be interesting
First half good, second half quite boring. I do love Aerosmith but again wonder why it was this album chosen for the list when there are at least 3 better. Janie and Love in an elevator highlights
Not bad
Not the biggest Aerosmith fan. This was alright I guess. Nothing brilliant, nothing terrible.
100% 80s glam rock
Really don’t know what to make of this… tied up with being a cheesy band from my childhood…
Easily the best post 70's Aerosmith album. One more decent album before they jump into their CryingCrazyAmazing era where they rewrite the same sappy love song over and over. Good Aerosmith will always be their 70's stuff, but this one has some memorable hits.
Not a bad listen.
In the late 80's I was deep in the world of Thrash and Death Metal, what would now be called extreme metal, my dad went to London and asked what I'd like him to bring me back. I asked new thrash/death metal records, probably said "something heavier than Slayer/Metallica" or along those lines, because I remember thinking the sales person needs to understand what they're being asked for. He brought me this album. I think I listened to it the first time around mid-90's and was kind of pleasantly surprised. It's not bad American radio rock, some of the better songs are not targeted to be single hits and few bluesy ones in there too. I can't say it's my favourite of theirs, but it's decent and not totally tailored to woo the average radio listener.
Naja, ganz nett, aber zu aufregend für mich ...
Pretty fun album. I'd only ever heard their hits before so it was nice to give a full album a listen.
Good album, but it feels unbalanced because the singles are awesome but the rest of the album, not that much.
yeah yeah yeah, we like this not their best work but YES, my leg was moving
Every Aerosmith album I get I just think, "It's catchy, it's fun, it's rock and roll, but I just don't feel like listening to this." Maybe it's the impression I have of Stephen Tyler but I'm just not keen on this band. Here Aerosmith are a bit older, a bit more mature. They've cleaned up their acts and gone off drugs. They seem to be carrying their style from their 70s beginnings and looking towards the 90s while still retaining a signature sound. But yeah, I don't know, I'm not thrilled by it. It had a couple of good singles that objectively work very well, and maybe it's a good story about how bands don't need drugs to fuel their creativity. In fact, maybe it's enhanced without them. On that basis, I maybe should award 4 stars. But if I'm being honest with myself, I'm just not that moved by it.
Cheesy but enjoyable. Felt like every track was designed in a lab to appeal to the hair metal crowd, but it worked for the most part. 3.5 stars
Steve Tyler is a gremlin. Solid album
Never been big on Aerosmith and this didn't change my mind
Love in an elevator, with Jeanie and her gun
Plenty of good Aerosmith albums out there. This one tickles my average button.
I had fun listening to this album
Honestly I forgot to rank this even though I listened to it days ago. I liked it but I don't remember LOVING it. Lyrics a bit too gross sometimes.
Hm. Ächli anderscht als de typisch Glam- Rock us dere Ziit. Aerosthmith isch immer speziell gsie. Janie's got a gun isch sehr cool.
young lust und fine sind beides afoch gueti rocksongs aber nöd meh. going down meeega horny haha good morning mister tyler... going... down? bruuudi. merci s het glöscht. janies got a gun isch seeeehr cool mega viel idee. super. öhm nocher wirds wieder chli normaler, other side isch easy langwilig gsi etz. my girl het super chörli. tönt sehr fest noch zeppelin. dont get mad get even het didgeridoo? öööh. nocher same same mid tempo rock. oke es macht paar cooli harmonischi sache. hoodoo wieder unnötig langs intro. bass isch meeeega geil uf dem track uiiiii. uf what it takes ghört mer chli azeiche vo dem wo aerosmith ide 90er wird mache, sochli ballade mässigi langsamk rocksongs mehrstimmig gsunge. aber ebe halt hiere guet gschriebe und de tyler isch gmacht für so songs. findi recht klar de best ufem album. vlt bin ich afoch en softie hihi uwu. git en andrei charles ulrich.
Classic Aerosmith. Works.
I just don't get Aerosmith. It's too, party, sex for me.
Always think I like Aerosmith more than I actually do, then I hear them. Rather have their 70s stuff than the band/sound they became/where in the late 80s/early 90s, seems a caricature of what they really were. This just takes it all to far for me, tries too hard. Too cock rock, too screaming sounds, too in your face, just too stereotype rock star cliché at every turn, even a song about abuse becomes a big production number. But worst, to top it off there is that big late 80s production, im sure there are good songs in here but everything is just bombastic and saturated. . Takes the dumb fun that can be had from blues heavy rock, dials everything past 10 and just ends up just being loud and dumb. Even down to the dumb cover. Again like a lot of things im hearing on this list, being generous, it falls into that I don't dislike per say, but don't need to hear it either - 3 Star. But more likely 2.5.
I was never that big a fan of Aerosmith. Nevertheless, there were a few songs that I liked. Perhaps the accompanying video clips played a big part. I'm familiar with this album, but I haven't listened to it. I have now done so. It's ok. However, I wouldn't have thought that 1000 albums would be so extensive that this album would be one of the best. In my opinion, there would be better candidates. 3/5
I know people like these guys but it's not for me.
I'm not the biggest Aerosmith fan, but this album isn't as bad as others have made it out to be. Is it insanely notable? No. Is it one of the better hair metal albums? Yes. As someone who hates the poserism of hair metal, this rating is a compliment. Best Songs: Love In An Elevator, What It Takes Worst Songs: Janie's Got A Gun, My Girl
Music to drink Mad Dog 2020 to.
It wasn’t Toys in the Attic but was still an album that I’d expect from Aerosmith. Sure there is the sophomoric songs but Janie’s Got a Gun is not what you would expect and was actually a good song. I’ve always like Joe Perry’s guitar and unlike some reviewer’s distain for Steve Tyler’s singing, he has quite the range and still pull it off.
All a bit of fun isn't it
A few good songs here, and they were still better than the shitty hair metal acts that they inspired, but it’s ridiculous that this album is here instead of some of their better 70’s albums. 3/5
Okay
Better than expected.
Equal parts cool & corny, I am always impressed how much effort often gets put into the album tracks. Aside from “Elevator,” the singles I usually find a bit much, although in hindsight “Janie” is better than I remembered. A tough one along the 3/4 star border, so I figured I’d listen again, to make sure…and then, when I didn’t really want to listen again, I had my answer.
Apparently, I still understand English song lyrics when listening to music the same way I did as a child with a different native language—not at all. As a result, I barely notice the fixation on sex. The sound is decent but doesn’t inspire me to listen to the album again in the future. The best part of the album is probably the interesting instrumental interludes (which identify as Hard Rock).
Not my kind of music but it is hard to deny how clean their music is. Well clean in the sense of musical talent, not so much the lyrics and topics. I haven’t actually heard any of the songs on here and the ones with videos didn’t really stand out from the rest so I’m not sure which are the big hits. The latter half of the album I did start to tune out and get a bit sick of the style and vocals. Overall a pretty ok album for someone who doesn’t enjoy this genre of rock. 5/10
I've always liked "What It Takes", but I could do without the rest of the songs. I'm not a real fan of how Steven Tyler sings, and some of those songs are just plain juvenile.
Two Aerosmith albums in three days might be a little too much of Steven Tyler for my liking. Pump is actually really similar to Toys in the Attic I have listened to previously. Couple of radio hits, like Janie's Got a Gun and Love in an Elevator and a set of pretty solid hard rock/glam songs. Regardless of those similarities, I felt like this record was slightly more boring. Very likely that it was because of the limit of Aerosmith songs my body can take in one week. Whatever the reason is, the rating has to be lower than for the previous album.
Стандартно
Not my fave Aerosmith record but it’s def got some tracks.
More varied than I thought. The guy can really sing his heart out.
This is a good album. I think if you had asked me 20 years ago I would have been more enthusiastic. I like Aerosmith but the appeal and longevity of listening to them has sort of waned for me. If I hear them on the radio I might listen. I just don’t seek them out anymore.
This was a good album, plenty of great tracks, but also some stinkers. Solid three stars.
Aerosmith - one of the most popular rock bands. But in my opinion because they play very smooth easy to listen to rock. Not really good, but ok. And album is also like that.
Aerosmith rocks hard, but much of this album feels superfluous. Of the 48 minute run time, I think 25-30 minutes I would do better. After completing the Aerosmith trifecta, I think they are over hyped. I do have nostalgia for Get A Grip, which MTV shoved down everyone’s throats. And the band grabbed attention with Steven Tyler being two toned black and nude to open the Livin’ On The Edge video. But when I break down the music, and their hits, I’m left underwhelmed.
I never was a huge fan of Aerosmith, especially later Aerosmith. It's fun and stuff but I always liked other bands with the same kind of style from that same period. But this record was kinda fun and enjoyable.
This came out when I was 12 years old. A friend at school recorded his older brothers album and gave me a tape of it. When you're young and broke every album counts and I listened to this a lot. It wasn't much later that grunge and alternative hit, washing this style of music away. It has been decades since I listened to this album and looking at the track list the only songs that I could remember were Love In An Elevator and Janie's Got A Gun. But as each song started my brain went oh yeah, I remember this. Nostalgia aside, this is an ok album, but nothing special. I really haven't missed much in the decades since I last listened to it.
Mér finnst eiginlega leiðinlegt að mér finnist þetta ekki leiðinlegra en raun ber vitni. Vil gefa þessu tvist en mér leiddist ekki við hlustunina, svona stórt séð. Segjum 2,6.
Next time someone complains about today's music being too prurient, show them this album.
Born in 80, for me, this and Get a Grip are the Aerosmith I 'grew up' with, although they were never my thing. I'm proud of this because this is just a darn good rock album. Great sinles and fun album tracks and a worthwhile listening indeed.
This album is everything I would have expected from Aerosmith at that point in their career. Every song is so grand and over the top. Sorta gets exhausting after a while. It’d be nice to see them try something else. “Janie’s Got a Gun” is a nice change of pace for the first bit and I would have liked to see them expand on “Dulcimer Song” a little more. None of the songs were offensive, though, and I enjoyed the album. 3/5
Not my tempo but they do stay in their lane admirably.
I like older Aerosmith. Some good tunes on Pump, but a bit formulaic.
Favorites were Love in an Elevator and Janie's Got a Gun.
It’s ok, not a favourite
Everything I have learned about Steven Tyler since I heard my first Aerosmith album has pretty much been against my will. Safe to say he wasn’t making the smartest choices back in the 70s and 80s. But I still thought Rocks has some of the most kick-ass hard rock of the mid-70s. It was much more intense than I expected, and I said I wasn’t sure if their music would hit the same for me if that aspect of it was abandoned. Pump doesn’t seem to have any big streaming hits on it, but it was still a massively successful album on release. And from its title, to its ridiculous cover, to the song titles and contents of the song themselves, this is overtly a very sexually charged album. One might say super fucking horny. I had hoped for something on the level of Rocks. And Young Lust, which I’m sure Steven knows plenty about, starts things off pretty strong. Probably the best thing this has to offer. But I can count on one hand the number of other songs I enjoy besides that opener. This is lacking in comparison to Rocks in almost every way possible. It’s like my intuition was trying to tell me that the exact thing I feared would be the case was true. This came well over a decade after Rocks, and it seems that in that time, they had adapted to the evolving hard rock sound of the era and softened up. Which I do not prefer. The grunge peak of the 90s is what killed this kind of music, and we were all better off without it at some point. Steven also just isn’t giving it his all here like he was before. Aside from a few moments where he really shines and he gets a little rowdier, these performances are very average. Like, I can only listen to him repeat the chorus of Love in an Elevator so many times before I want to rip my own head off. And at its worst, this bogs down to some very vapid and surface level hard rock. Nothing like I haven’t heard before. But something I don’t need to hear any more of. Rating: 5/10
Not the best Aerosmith album I’ve heard. Good enough to get a 3/5.
Good singles and some decent album tracks, but I don't see how this is an album anyone must hear
(FIRST TIME LISTEN) young lust: 4/5 F.I.N.E: 4/5 going down/love in an elevator: 4/5 monkey on my back: 3/5 water song/janies got a gun: 3/5 dulcimer stomp/the other side: 4/5 my girl: 3.5/5 don’t get mad, get even: 3/5 hoodoo/voodoo medicine man: 4/5 what it takes: 4.5/5 overall: 3.5/5. eh it was good especially the last song though
Sounds like Aerosmith in the late 80's. Energy and performances are def there, but most songs here are too long, and horned up. It's good for a comeback album 🤷
I went into this not expecting much as this particular brand of rock has never stood out to me as being very interesting. It definitely had a lot of tracks that did the aural equivalent of making my eyes go unfocused but there were some cool sounds and intros to songs that surprised me. Standout track: Water Song / Janie's Got A Gun
Acceptable cheesy rock. I found the screaming from Steven Tyler less annoying in this album. I think for an Aerosmith album this was nicely balanced
Solid classic rock. A fun and easy listen but it does not strive to achieve something more. Favorite song was definitely Janie's Got a Gun
Gutes Hardrock-Album mit passenden aufeinander abgestimmten Songs. Es stachen hierbei „Love in a elevator“, „Water Song“ und „My Girl“ positiv hervor. Insgesamt aber nicht außergewöhnlich.
Some good songs
Not a bad album Not really sure why it’s on the list.
Definitivamente no.
Solid Aerosmith. Enjoyed it
I like Aerosmith but I’m definitely more of a greatest hits fan.
Too Aerosmith for me
Is it a good Aerosmith album. It doesn't matter because Love in an Elevator is one of the tracks that gets played on Rock n Rollercoaster (Starring Aerosmith) at Disney World's Hollywood Studios
i've been thinking a lot about wayne's world lately....
Yeahhhhhhhhhhh
Bien, simplemente eso. Bien. Okei.
Better than toys in the attic, but just not that good. Their album tracks are always meh, apart from the closer ballad. Very low 3
What it Takes is one of the best Aerosmith songs! That track and Janies got a Gun are the 2 best tracks
Frankly, it’s fine. Kudos to Aerosmith for being able to maintain their core sound while still evolving enough to stay relevant across several decades, but unfortunately, that means this album sounds like an 80s album. Lots of radio hits that I remember being pretty big, and even liking at the time, but now they just sound dated and mediocre.
TBH I don't thinl I've ever listened to an entire Aerosmith album. Some ok ol fashioned glam metal the first few songs - not my jam but can dig some parts of it. Literally watched Not Another Teen Movie last night and the Janie's Got a Gun sequence is top notch comedy. "Use a song with her name in it" That was probably the best song on the album for me. Just too 80's but not particularly bad. Between a 2 and 3 but I'll bump.
I mean it's pretty simple but fun, a few good songs. A solid listen, idk not much more to say tbh. A couple songs I didn't know were Aerosmith songs so that was cool. Fav songs: - Young Lust - Going Down/Love in an Elevator - Water Song/Janies Got a Gun
I mean I get why they’re on this list, but I just don’t have a lot of interest in hard rock
Some cool stuff on this but I'm honestly not a huge fan of much Aerosmith that came after Done With Mirrors.
Standard Aerosmith sound, nothing special. I prefer the Big Ones album
One of their better efforts
3.5 pretty good
Better than I remember but this almost guarantees 3+ Aerosmith albums on this list and that doesn’t feel right
Aerosmith is a hard band for me. I know that they are above the fold and are an A-list band. They ARE great. I just... am kind of indifferent towards them. Like "yeah, they are Ok... That song is pretty great, and that one..." But they don't as a whole drive my in any particular way. I don't seek them out or think I will buy this album. And I am not sure why? They have a good range, they are never boring. They have theiir own sound and it is definitely good... I guess sometimes it is just how it goes.
After 3 listens, there's a few good tracks on here: Young Lust, Going Down/Love in an Elevator, and What it Takes are pretty great. Overall though, I don't think this is the album that makes Aerosmith's guitar prowess and Tyler's vocals shine. 3/5.
Not a bad little listen
June 1, 2024 HL: "Janie's Got a Gun", "Love in an Elevator", "What it Takes" Self-proclaimed Aerosmith fan here— The singles hold up for me but some of the deeper cuts weren’t as satisfying. Sounds more homogenous (in a big 80's radio rock kind of way) than Rocks & Toys in the Attic. Also, the interludes like "Water Song" & the didgeridoo are cool but ultimately don't add anything to the songs they follow or precede. On the other hand it does have “Janie’s Got a Gun” 3.5/5
Not bad. I kind of liked the little musical interludes in between songs.
Sex joke on the cover art, further implied by the title. Look, Aerosmith is basically the American Rolling Stones: heavily blues-inspired hard rock with albums that only have a couple really good songs next to a bunch of filler whatever songs. In the case of Pump, the good songs are Love in an Elevator and Janie's Got a Gun. Admittedly, Aerosmith is at least a little more interesting than the Rolling Stones, but this is held back by Steven Tyler's irritating vocal stylings and lame lyrics. In the context of Aerosmith's career, Pump was a huge success for the band. It was one of Aerosmith's best-selling albums that helped them reestablish their image after a frankly turbulent decade fueled by drug problems, member departures, and middling albums. It took some serious rehabilitation for the band to get back on their feet and prove themselves once more to general public. Turns out it doesn't take much to impress the general public. Frankly it's not bad, but it's just not that good either. Aerosmith had no right being this prolific. I think the story would've been a lot more interesting if the band broke up for good after Joe Perry left in '79.
Some of the music is fun, but there’s only so much entendre one can take. Have it a 3 mostly out of nostalgia.
Not bad, but jot great either.
American stadium glam-rock. Nothing special.
Very first Aerosmith album I've seen off the list and it's Pump? I mean this is well past the point they went from a true rock n roll band to generic, cliche driven band to appeal to the masses. Cool, you're still around after 50+ years, but if you're an old guy like me, you lost my attention around the mid 80's. BTW, ya'll owe Run DMC for saving your careers. I would recommend followers of this list to check out Get Your Wings, Draw The Line, Rocks and my personal favorite, Toys In The Attic. All from the 70's. Don't get me wrong, there's been some solid songs since, but not the Aerosmith I knew growing up. The Aerosmith I enjoyed. Ok, this album. Really like Janie's Got a Gun and my personal favorite off the album is What It Takes. Think I drove my wife and kids crazy every time we jumped into an elevator by mimicking the opening to Love in an Elevator. But for the most part, thought the song was pretty cheesy. Spent a good part of last night rocking out to some of the 70's stuff and brought back some wonderful memories growing. This album? Nothing memorable and pretty aggravated we didn't see one of their first 4-5 albums. I'm still going with a 3. Yea, they've built up enough goodwill with me I'm not going to tear them apart, but damnit, should have been something from the 70's. 3
High energy album. I feel like Aerosmith sounds one way and that's kind of it. I tend to not pay attention to lyrics on first listen, rating based on vibes only, so I'm not deducting points for horny lyrics. Highlights: love in an elevator (sadly because of Disney Hollywood Studios), Janie's got a gun
I don’t like Aerosmith, but this ain’t bad
Malgré le hate généralisé j'ai eu du plaisir à écouter l'album. Assez hard rock.
Meh. Soooo overplayed in my last year of HS. At least the videos were fun to look at.
Favorite Track: F.I.N.E. Dulcimer Stomp/The Other Side Water Song/Janie’s Got A Gun
‘Janie’s Got A Gun’ is the big song here. It’s inspired compared to a lot of the rest of the album which feels like run of the mill, by the numbers typical Aerosmith sleaze rock that they’d made a career of. It’s still fun, but by 1989 they’re hitting their 40’s and Steve Tyler is still singing songs about young lust and getting laid in an elevator. Basically, there’s not much new here. If you’ve heard ‘Toys In The Attic’, then you’ve heard ‘Pump’.
Ok
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, I hate this oversexed 80s cock hair rock. Aerosmith does at best tread the line of that genre on Pump, but there is more to it. It’s more raw and authentic than bands like Van Halen. Songs like The Other Side, What it Takes and the Janie’s Got A Gun are legitimate great songs, the show that aren’t just that trash genre. 7.6/10
Def some hits here. But not super into Aerosmith.
I think this is a slightly above average album, has some cool elements and vocal styles but some songs go for too long and the album is slightly repetitive
Is what it is. Well produced, just doesn't touch me
Probably Aerosmith 's best work, for what that's worth.
Niet heel erg een mening hierover, nooit echt een Aerosmith fan geweest.
Was Liv Tyler in any of these music videos
Was this album particularly good? No. The first half was okay, the second half very bland. Is it overflowing with rock 'n' roll clichés? Oh, hell yes Over produced? Certainly Did I like it? Partly But seriously, I agree, it's not the best album, not even the best by Aerosmith. But it's not as bad as some people here believe it is. I think you should just not take them seriously. I don't know if the band themselves take them seriously (but if they did I'd probably check their mental health). What I don't understand is, people praise bands like Steel Panther left and right and run to their concerts like moths to the light, but at the same time they talk shit about Aerosmith. Not to defend Aerosmith but some people here definitely need a reality check. All in all a mediocre but entertaining album. Nothing really good, but acceptable.
I enjoyed this one. Always liked Aerosmith, and this one gets ya going!
Definitely a classic album. Couldn’t compare to Toys in the Attic but don’t have many or any complaints about this album here. A good one, not something I would really choose to listen to but I wouldn’t say no to hearing it.
I’ve outgrown Aerosmith but this was still a surprisingly solid rockin album. Lots of the typical passable bluesy rock sound you’d expect from them (and get irritated by) but enough variation and wider influences to keep things interesting. Just not something I have the patience to listen to all in one go again. Top tracks: Young Lust, Janie’s Got A Gun, The Other Side, Hoodoo Voodoo Medicine Mane (I’m not proud of liking that last one)
When’s it’s good it’s fun, but then it also turns into the most annoying album I ever heard
Our third from Aerosmith, and it's quite a bit later in their career. However, it does still rock, and I was surprised to hear some of their big hits on an album this late, including "Love in an Elevator" and "Janie's Got a Gun." Digeridoo was a cool touch too. Still not at the level of Toys in the Attic for me, but Aerosmith seems pretty consistently good. Rarely great, but generally good. Favorite tracks: Love in an Elevator, Janie's Got a Gun, Don't Get Mad Get Even. Album art: Truck fuck. 3.5/5
I can see why this album made the list. There are a lot of notable tracks that have entered the pantheon of classic rock. Not my favorite album, but definitely going to save a couple of tracks.
Its really got that classic rock feel I think, on first listen it was ok. After a second listen it was better, interesting lyrics thats for sure. However, a few of the songs were a bit repetative.
Had to put aside my bias (that I don’t like Aerosmith) and I didn’t hate listening to this. Of course I could sing along with three or so songs but found that I didn’t mind listening to the whole album.
Aerosmith had some amazing albums in the 70s. They had some amazing albums in the 90s. Outside of Permanent Vacation, their 80s output was very mediocre, this album included. This album is pretty forgettable. Monkey on my Back is a nice refreshing track, but otherwise, it pulls in some of the worst parts of the 80s with really corny synths underneath some fairly forgettable distorted guitar work. There are a couple of singles from this album that are at least semi-famous, but still, for me it's not really Aerosmith. It was Aerosmith trying desperately to stay relevant in a changing music scene before they finally rediscovered the magic in 1993 with Get a Grip. I honestly don't really think this album deserves a place on 1001 albums.
I love Aerosmith, but I don’t love this album.
3 stars
It’s silly polished horned up rock n roll. Aerosmith is interesting in how long their popularity stretched, and they refined and reformed their sound several times. This album, at the height of the glam metal era, is a great example of the genre while avoiding being annoying. I find a lot of other bands of that era (Motely Cru, Poison, etc.) more cringey and annoying, but Aerosmith doesn’t ever get on my nerves. There are some fun instrumental excursions between songs, and overall the album doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Sleazy, fun. Ignorant in the best way. Care taken in musicianship, and double entendres
I don't think this is the best Aerosmith album, but it did come at an interesting time. Aerosmith spent much of the 70s being top rockers, but then dwindled significantly in the 80s, failing to produce much that would be considered noteworthy. It wasn't until the end of the 80s that they would make a surprising comeback, and this album was a major part of that. They would see their fame revitalized through the 90s, into the 2000s. Many rock bands from the 70s and 80s found it difficult to push into the 90s, but Aerosmith managed to come back into the scene in the 90s. While overall, I find the album to be pretty average, some of their best songs can undoubtedly be found on this album. And song quality aside, this album showed that Aerosmith was still around and ready to smash the rock scene. Similarly, they showed that there was still a place for glam rock in music. While it was undoubtedly a dying genre (at least in its then current form) at this point in time, Aerosmith showed that glam still had a place in music, and this was something that they would continue to push and not give up on, into the 90s and 2000s.
Apart from the greatest hits I've never really listened to aerosmith.... And this sounds EXACTLY how I thought it would
Didn’t realize how dirty the lyrics were, even for 80’s standards. Ha! Good sounding album from the time.
Solid album
Straight forward rock with a soulless vocal. Kind of boring.
Not a bad little Aerosmith album
What it takes is a great rock ballad. Janie’s got a gun is so good. Steven Tyler truly has THE voice made for rock. The rest of the songs are kind of cringe. 3.5
This was a surprisingly fun listen. I like it. I would go see the Aerosmith farewell tour, they were supposed to be at YUM last weekend, but Steven Tyler got Larynx damage so they delayed it to later in the year.
Love the 80’s-ness of this. They’ve done some cringe stuff but Steven’s voice is undeniable.
It's OK, of it's time but dated
This is the Aerosmith album that was hot when I was in grade school, and I still really like Love in an Elevator and Janie's Got a Gun, but this album is almost comical listening now. So many Korg and Roland samples, it's like the felt compelled to put down MIDI patches on every track just because. Also some bizarrely sloppy guitar solos on a few tracks. Overall I didn't hate it, but not in love with it either.
Allt í lagi tittlingarokk. Ekki áhugasamur en þetta er vel gert þannig séð og lagað.
Very solid, especially for an album this late into a band’s career But I don’t relate much to listen again, so a 3 it is
Maybe some of the best Aerosmith??
There's a lot of good ingredients in there, but don't feel that they came together to make a particularly exciting album. Janie's Got a Gun & Love In An Elevator are good songs, but there's not much else here. That gets it a three.
Basically every song sounds the same. Contains some cool riffs though.
A perfectly adequate showing by the Bad Boys from Boston. It’s interesting to reflect on facets of rock music in the years just before grunge tore it all down.
Enjoyable enough 3
Fun Rock album, brings nothing new to the table.
I mean it’s alright
Meh
Not my favorite Aerosmith, but has some catchy tunes. 2.5/5
Decent although I didn’t know any of the songs! I’ll have to listen to this one again.
Can't stand Steven Tyler's voice/ cheesy lyrics in some of these tunes. Some classics on this album and instruments are great.
It certainly is Aerosmith
What I expected. Just ok
My speakers smell like leather now..
Classic eighties rock.
Grand
Sin más. Un 3.
I enjoy a four minute long Aerosmith song. I do not enjoy listening to 12 identical Aerosmith songs in a row. Weirdly little to say about it really, except that they're good at picking the lead single, as Love in an Elevator absolutely towers above anything else on here.
I mean, it’s one of the better Aerosmith records. But I’m dubious as to whether it merits a spot on this list. Here’s hoping it’s for the song about a young woman killing her abuser and not the one about Steven Tyler getting his dick sucked in an elevator.
Thoroughly enjoyed many songs, and I found something fun in all the songs. Might be because I heard their music growing up, but I found this sort of hard rock much easier to listen to than the heavy metal from that decade. Reminds me of the NFL oddly. It is not my favorite stuff from before I was born but I think it could be a vibe in many situations. 6.5/10
Not really for me. I feel like there are more important Aerosmith albums in their catalog, and even though this one had some hits, they just don't "dig in" like some of their earlier tracks. Two stand-outs for me, Dulcimer Stomp (just that part), and What It Takes. I was kind of excited to hear the non-hit tracks, but they just sounded like outtakes of the hits.
I still think this was the last great Aerosmith album. Wore out the tape in 1989. Still rocks. That said, some of these songs, despite being deeply embedded in my memories, are skippable. I think that Aerosmith at their best is sleazy and cheesy. And very self-aware.
For what it is it’s good though it’s not my go to genre. Pretty energetic.
Not a huge Aerosmith fan but this was probably there best album since Toys in the Attic.
high intensity good album
Mildly interesting and a bit better than I was expecting. Love in an Elevator is the standout track. I didn't find the album as a whole irritating, Steven Tyler has a decent voice.
Thought this was alright. Some of the lyrics are pretty cringe but there are some decent riffs and drums. I also don't mind Steve's voice which has it's moments. Highlights: Young Lust Going Down/Love In An Elevator What It Takes
Never been an aerosmith fan, although this was probably a bit better than I was expecting. Don't think Love in an elevator is a good track, but the only one I knew. Think there were better ones. Water song/Janie's got a gun probably the highlight but doubt I'll be back
I love Janie's Got a Gun. Otherwise, the rest of the album is good late-80s hard rock, but it didn't necessarily grip me aside from the one song I already knew and liked.
Rate the fucking album and its music reatrds its objectjve 3 from here heyo hoy ja rommia pullo.. Tartte valittaa nää nää huono nää nää vittu numero laita numero ja läpä kiinni..
Janie's Got a Gun was my favorite. Not their best work, but Aerosmith still brought it on this one.
Pretty standard classic rock as far as it goes, solid album. Favourite song Water Song / Janie’s Got A Gun.
There are too many Aerosmith albums (but this was the best one so far).
2.5/5
Just like with Rocks I want to hate this more than I do. I really don't like Tyler's voice very much but the instruments are solid enough. There's a lot of big hits here that I still hear fairly often. I cant believe I'm giving Aerosmith a 3, but here we are.
# 56 : Finally some hard rock different from the recent run of albums from this list. Good and fast. Dulcimer Stomp / The Other Side.
Pretty 80s. It's rock, but it's clearly from the 80s. I thought this was pretty average, and nothing really stuck out to me.
Young Lust klapt er meteen lekker in zeg! Wel grappig dat een album in de 1001 staat van die kleine band met wie RUN-D.M.C. samen werkte. Going Down/Love in an elevator is een fucking banger. Favo: Young Lust, Going Down/Love in an Elevator, Hoodoo/Voodoo medicine man
It's Rock. That's it, that's the review.
More than a third of the way through this list and I think this is the first Aerosmith apperance which is surprising. Cool intro song- double bass kick drumming is so weird underneath an Aerosmith song hahah. "Going Down/ Love In An Elevator" is a classic track. It's a good record. Not my favorite but not really too bad. I'm admittedly not the biggest Aerosmith fan- they were always like THE overplayed classic rock radio band when I was growing up. There's a lot of energy and fun to be had which are big positives though.
Ehkä olen setä, mutta nautin tästä. Hyvä monipuolinen kasaripaketti stadionmeiningillä, vetäviä biisejä.
A few songs saved this from the sludge, but still rough in places.
Two Trucks Having Sex Songs are fun, but knowing its 40 year old Steven Tyler singing them makes me like them less. Remembering playing these songs on guitar hero makes them 50% more enjoyable. Love In An Elevator has a great hook, every other part of the song is nowhere near as good. Would be better if it was a minute or 2 shorter. Janie's Got A Gun is a nice change of pace. Probably more enjoyable within the context of the album than it would if i listened to it on its own. Dulcimer Stomp has a really fun intro. Why cant the rest of the song be like it :( what a disappointment. Songs start to really blend together on the second half of the album. I can barely remember what they sound like after they end. Not terrible or anything, just unmemorable. Best Song: Janie's Got A Gun Worst Song: Don't Get Mad, Get Even
Three jams and the rest sounds the same.
Does what you would expect
It's fun, and Janie's got a Gun is a banger, and while the quality is actually quite good - I'm not a big fan of Aerosmith in general. If one likes the band, or can tolerate the, this is a good one I think. But I cannot.
Aerosmith e egentlig ganske god s
A little too ‘80s for me, but still fun. 3/5
Moins aimé que Toys in the Attic, ça sonnait beaucoup plus comme le Aerosmith radio friendly que j'ai tant entendu, moins de personnalité, plus axé sur l'accessibilité. 6/10
not my type but i understand the appeal
Pump doesn’t pump. +1 for “Janie’s Got a Gun”
The beginning of the end for good Aerosmith, but it’s not the end yet..
Aerosmith are a band I feel I should like more than I do. Great well crafted songs (thanks mostly to Desmond child working with them), great musicianship - Joe Perry is an underrated guitarist. But I’m left a bit cold. I don’t know why. Sure Steven Tyler is annoying, but a great showman. So, this album was … less than the sum of its parts? In the pantheon of great rock bands, I have many I prefer. This is a better album than many of their others, but a must listen? Nope.
The only Aerosmith album I’ve ever owned was their 4th album, Rocks (1976), via the Australian Record Club, which I never liked & have since disposed of. But I have collected some of their singles over the years, including the 2 killer tunes off this album - Love In An Elevator & Janie’s Got A Gun. The latter is particularly listenable. The rest of the album is inoffensive & I do enjoy the didge on Don’t Get Mad, Get Even. And nice to see that Holland-Dozier-Holland successfully sued them for ripping off Standing In The Shadows Of Love in the track The Other Side.
haha ridiculous
3.6 - I’ve always had a soft spot for “What It Takes”, a power pop country-inflected ballad of jilted love. Absolutely my favorite Aerosmith song. If I’m honest I generally prefer this rise-from-the-phoenix era of theirs. Steven Tyler sounds grittier and more direct and Joe Perry’s guitar is scintillating as ever. Some other solid hits on here though “Janie’s Got a Gun” hasn’t excited me since middle school.
Nous rompichâmes
Janeys got a gunnnnnnn
I just… “kissing your sassafrass”… that’s a real lyric.
I thought this would be a favorite and an automatic 5. I’ve said this before about another album and it’s true here as well. The A&R people chose the right singles. I love the hits but don’t much care for the rest of the songs.
[Sidebar: I haven't listened to this album since it came out, but Friday morning, as I was walking my dog, the song "Janie's Got A Gun" floated into my head. I was trying to remember the lyrics. Totally random. Fire up the computer, and here it is as the album for the weekend. If there are no coincidences, what does this all mean?] When this came out, yeah, it was huge. And huger still because it marked the COMEBACK. "Dude Looks Like A Lady" was a massive MTV thing off the previous album, but then this hit and Aerosmith was like, a legitimate American icon again. No doubt, this album has a ton of energy. The guitar work is excellent — these guys can play. The bass tone is really big too. But goddamn is there just too much Steven Tyler. He's harmonizing with himself over everything. He's injecting himself into musical passages. He's just too prominent. And on top of that, he has completely turned from cheeky and kind of funny to just being gross. It's too much. This album does not hold up for me — I never loved it to begin with — and it's why I haven't listened to it since it was released. So, I don't place this high up in the Aerosmith canon. "Toys In The Attic" is a masterpiece. This is more of a schlocky pop-culture relic. Back to "Janie's Got A Gun," that does at least sound new. It was a departure for Aerosmith, it sounded different than other rock bands, that still stands out. Though vocally, again, Tyler is reaching for the stars and quadrupling his vocals and it didn't hold up with a critical listen. "Love In An Elevator" was the same. I remember being impressed with the vocals when that dropped, how sophisticated those harmonies were. Now I hear them as overdone studio trickery that they can't even attempt to sing live. We've got one more Aerosmith album on the list, "Rocks," which was released right after "Toys," and that's a worthy inclusion. I would have preferred "Done With Mirrors" over this if we had to include a third. That was their actual return to form after nearly killing themselves with drugs, and while it was mostly overlooked, it's a more worthy album than this. This is 2.5 but I'm rounding up for sme reason.
Some classic rock here. Takes me back.
Can a band sue itself for copying it's own songs? The other side sounds exactly like janie's got a gun... Pretty decent album.
Meh. Disappointed and expected more. Give it a three.
Nothing special
I enjoyed this
Solid album by one of the greats.
solid comeback record. their 70's shit is better tho
I'd give it a 3.5 if I could. I'm not a metal fan but I quite enjoyed this album. Love in an elevator the stand out track
It was fine. The music is good but it pretty much all sounds the same. 6.5/10
Remarkable how far you can get with a little bam-thwock and a bunch of bad sex puns.
Whghh not really my vibe but it is energetic and the lead singer sounds hot
Listen to Aerosmith’s ‘“Pump” for a clear illustration of why grunge and 90s alt-rock had to happen. Just as Yes’s “Tales from Topographic Oceans” explains why prog-rock had to eventually give way to punk, “Pump” represents the worst excesses of 1980’s glam-metal. It’s hammy, crass, bloated, perverse… but my god, it’s a real guilty pleasure. Already elder statesmen of rock by this point, Aerosmith had reached their tenth album. Steven Tyler was 41 and kicked most of the drugs he’d spent the last couple of decades on. Not one for aging gracefully, his midlife crisis took the form of seeking oral sex in elevators, going on the prowl for daughters in “Young Lust”, and the skin-crawling lechery in F.I.N.E (“I’ve heard you’re so tight, your love squeaks”… not nice). It’s macho to the extreme, grotesque in its content and relentless in its delivery. The vehicle for this born-again horniness is a set of songs with fairly basic hard blues riffs and seismic drums, all gloss and 80’s sheen. …So what works? While I really expected to dislike it, I can’t deny there are some good hooks in these songs. It’s hard to love, but it’s pretty easy to like. Before I registered the pervy lyrics, “F.I.N.E” boasted an excellent strut. “Janie’s Got a Gun” veers into relatively unknown territory for the band, with a reasonably sensitive exploration into violence and abuse. And even though the music mainly stays in its lane, it’s also full of welcome adornments. The “woah-oh” backing vocals in “Love in an Elevator”… the synth strings in “Janie’s Got a Gun”… the horns in “The Other Side”… even the jarring interludes on dulcimer and fiddle… all give some variety I wasn’t expecting. The album closes with a sweet if predictable ballad, “What It Takes”. Big, bombastic, on-the-nose, but oh-so-singalongable: it’s a final exclamation mark on all my conflicted feelings on “Pump”. The destination may not be worth all that much, but we may as well enjoy the ride.
Some odd tracks out of keeping
Special band... Everyone participating in every song to make the sound full.
I'm not a big fan of Aerosmith but this album was so well known it was a fun listen. So many huge songs from 1 album.
Interesting album with a few hits
Hoodoo/Voodoo Medicine Man was a new standout. This is more like a 3.5.
It was okay. Nothing really stood out.
For the people who like this sort of thing, this is the sort of thing they like.
Acceptable. Enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would and was surprised at how many songs on it I knew.
Good Fun Disposable
This is like a Dr. Suess book but about sex. "I'd fuck on a boat, I'd fuck with a goat, I'd fuck in the rain, in the dark and on a train" Steven Tyler is a TRUE 'MURICAN FUCK MACHINE just like the trucks on the cover! In conclusion, this album is a bit lacking in the diversity department. Maybe one more song about sex would have fixed that.
Janie’s Got a Gun is enough to give this album 3/5 at the very least. Very technically sound. Tyler’s vocals are solid. not extraordinary imo but undeniably good.
Sounds a bit dated to me. Very 80s. Of course, I only really know Aerosmith from their mid-career stuff. The hits hold up but not an album I’d need to listen to from start to finish. 3/5 70/100
hard rock wooooooo yeahhhhhhh
eh
Has a bit of past hard rock sprinkled on to it, while having that pop-rock energy that most old bands had back in the 90s. Wasn't the best Aerosmith record, but was a good record to sculpt a red panda to.
I find this uncomfortable listening now, with or without the allegations against Steve Tyler. Great tunes. Sleazy lyrics.
Feels symptomatic of an indulgent age that songs on this album get intro'd with, variously, dulcimers, "exotic" percussion and a didgeridoo - and then are never heard of again. It's back to meat 'n' potatoes rock, sometimes accentuated with brass. It's fine! The highlights - 'Young Lust', 'Love in an Elevator', 'The Other Side' - are top tier. But there's a fair bit of filler here, and perhaps my ears are faulty but 'Janie's Got a Gun' has never charmed me. Why does plodder 'What It Takes' have such a high play count on Spotify?
This seems like the album where Aerosmith got it together and joined Def Lepard and Bon Jovi’s pop-influenced parade, which promptly marched them all the way to the bank. I don’t think they ever looked back. And really, Steven Tyler’s voice was made for this side of the rock coin. The lyrics are almost comically sex-obsessed. But he seems so shameless and the melodies are strong enough that I almost don’t even notice when he sings things like shoving a tongue between two cheeks. Almost. The hits were catchy and still are. I wish the lyrics were different, but then it wouldn’t be Aerosmith. And Alex, “What it Takes” was a big hit over here if memory serves. There was a period of years where every video they made was an event. They knew what they were doing on that front better than most, and it doesn’t surprise me that any of their singles from that era has a high play count on Spotify. Even though “Dream On” is still their best song by a mileosmith.
Not quite my type of music but enjoyable. Sounds very American which is no bad thing
2 stars for the music, 1 extra for the lively discussion.
I have never been an Aerosmith fan. Their songs are earworms to me. It is cool to know where so many of their big hits came from--this album--and hear all the deeper cuts. This album isn't going to make it into my rotation, but it was an almost historical listen.
Objectively speaking this is classic rock music and if I was in a bar having a beer it would be reasonably enjoyable to hear a few tracks from this album. At home, the music is a bit nondescript to my ears.
I was in there mid for this cheesy uplifting slice. All me tomorrow and I'll hate it, but today I enjoyed.
Pretty good album! I always expect Aerosmith to be good and this was no exception. Kinda crazy this came out in 1989 it seems way older. The 4 track run from love in an elevator to the other side is awesome. Janies got a gun is one of their best. What it takes is a fantastic closer. 6/10
Pretty good! Janie's Got A Gun is my fav track.
Alright but nothing particularly special for me here.
This tape was on constant play as a kid. Age 9 rocking to The Other Side, Janie's Got a Gun and What It Takes. No idea the subject matter, just loved it. I remember the album art had a pierced cow's utter. Sadly, this album does not hold up, still nostalgic, but lost the magic.
That’s some hair for sure! Actually surprised by some of the variance on this though. Good album, just not my genre. Remember that Aerosmith ride at Disney world? Lol I liked that ride
They said hootchie cootchie too many times on that one song. There were a couple more interesting songs here that saved the album for me…2.6 still though.
They put on a good party.
I like most Aerosmith singles, probably with the exception of the ones on this album. It wasn’t what I was expecting from Aerosmith. Like it was great rock with some interesting stuff throw in but it just wasn’t for me
Hard Rock Cafe
Enough of what you'd expect from Aerosmith but not Toys in the Attic.
It ain’t bad, kinda corny but it’s Aerosmith so what do you expect
This could be the truest Aerosmith sound. It’s good, but it’s not my Aerosmith.
Classic rock sound, i always loved "Janie's Got a Gun" but it's the least Aerosmith song on the album
Classic Rock and roll alright
I think this was preferable to the previous Aerosmith albums
So, fun fact, the first band that I ever really got into. This was during their Get a Grip era when they were suddenly all over the place again. After getting my money's worth out of Get a Grip, I decided to get Pump. Unfortunately for Aerosmith, I also got Dookie by Green Day and Nevermind by Nirvana. That last album would change my life in many ways, but the long and short of it is that I never really got into this album because it just seemed uninteresting next to the more modern rock I was being exposed to. I find this album's inclusion on this list to be a bit strange, since I don't remember it as being particularly groundbreaking, either in terms of Aerosmith's development as a band or in terms of the larger patterns present in the world of popular music. Hearing Steven Tyler sing about Young Lust at 41 years old is not particularly the experience that I was looking for this morning either. This album is not without its charms. The hits off of this record hold up decently well for white boy blues rock. Still, this album feels like a bunch of rockers that are getting to be over the hill pretending like they're still in their 20s. Also, Janie's Got a Gun would be a lot more powerful song if the rest of Aerosmith's catalogue wasn't creeping around young women. I really struggle to finish any of these songs because Aerosmith always feels like they're trying to filibuster their own albums. Little did we know at the time that we would have to listen to 25 more goddman years of this stuff. It's good that Nevermind came along 3 years after this album and put all of this nonsense to death 3/5
I’ll never be the big Aerosmith fan. They’ve got a handful of bangers, but other than that I just don’t care that much for one of Boston’s horniest and most cocaine sounding bands - quite an achievement by the way. For some reason I didn’t dislike this as much as I would’ve thought going into it. I don’t love it, but I most certainly don’t hate it. “Young Lust” was a surprisingly strong opener almost sounding like the Toys in the Attic-era. “Janie’s Got a Gun” and “The Other Side” are highlights as well, the first being one of the band’s absolute greatest songs. While most of the record still falls victim to many of the Aerosmith cliches I don’t enjoy, I wasn’t nearly as annoyed as expected. I actually rather enjoyed most of their antics. Well done, Aerosmith. I won’t give you a listen for the next many months. But quite well done, nevertheless.
3.5
Opening track ("Young Lust") feels kinda dated and boring. Also repetitive. Also not really into "Love In An Elevator." Still really love "Janie's Got A Gun," though. And "Dulcimer Stomp" is kind of cool.
I like some Aerosmith but I’m not the hugest fan.
3.5/5. Aerosmith are good to listen to when you just want a dumb fun time. I have fond memories of Young Lust from that Flaming Moe episode of the Simpsons.
Young lust- Lyrics iffy in parts but Catchy👍 Fine- next level of horniness Love in an elevator - heard of this song, but didn't actually know how it went. V catchy👍 Monkey on my back- bit of self reflection about excessive drug use. Janie's got a gun- poignant song about sexual abuse and the resulting consequences👍 The other side - quite generic but also hella catchy👍 My girl- meh Don't get mad get even- chorus is very blah Voodoo Medicine man- drums standout but bit melodramatic and taking itself too seriously. What it takes - this sounds like it could be on the soundtrack on a cheesy film. Also I kinda hate the random callback to fine.
Not the biggest Aerosmith fan, but there are some good moments. Standout songs are Going Down/Love in an Elevator and Young Lust.
Mediocre
Solid, but like the older stuff better
It has success in their time, maybe too cliche now.
wowww
Good rock n roll. Lyrics are a bit simply, but overall entertaining album
Not really an Aerosmith fan
funny but medium
Have listened to this a ton! I like this album a lot actually but only cause I have a nostalgia bias. This album is guilty of a lot of things that many classic rock albums are, including excessive yeahs, transphobic undertones, and guitars that are too loud, the tones, playing and overall band chemistry is amazing! The producer of this knew what they were doing for sure!
Not the absolute cheese-fest I expected it to be. Tyler is a genuinely good vocalist, and paired with some fun melodic ideas in the vox and instrumentation the band manages to make most tracks shine with a bit of tongue-in-cheek joy. Not too much soppy balladry or radio filler - the only thing dragging this LP down is that most tracks are a minute or two too long.
The only song on here that I would relisten to is Janey Got a Gun
18th July 2022 Listened while working from home. Went for a walk in the evening round the village and put some books away. Enjoyed the second half of this more than the first, felt less shallow and more groovy.
Enjoyable but standard areosmith
doesn’t hit the heights of childhood nostalgia or the rock and rollercoaster but still has a fun, screamy quality mixed in with some less expected sounds
Was a moderate Aerosmith fan in the 90's. I appreciate their style but it is not something I typically gravitate to. That being said, this album does contain some classics. Enjoyed it but was ready to move on.
Longevity is seemingly rare, but Aerosmith will not let you see that. Aerosmith has remained one of the most consistent rock bands in what is now two different centuries, a feat shared by only a handful of their contemporaries. Getting their start in the 70s, staying relevant in the late 80s when rock was being bullied by electronic pop and chic consumerism, to hitting the charts yet again in the late 90s, Aerosmith may not be the best rock band ever but they certainly have been the most present. 1989's "Pump" is not an exceptional album until the fact that it was 1989 sets in as a reality. This turn of the decade saw a lot of significant changes in music, where society was beginning to swear off synth-pop and bands like Aerosmith laid some groundwork to kick off some of the 90s prominent bands (Alice In Chains, e.g.). The album rocks well as any Aerosmith album will. Steven Tyler's wailing vocals are as strong as ever, and the music will have you humming or tapping your feet as a good rock album should.
It's what i expected. Nothing to write home about, but nothing objectionable.
Maybe it was because I was 9 or 10 when this album was getting MASSIVE airplay and especially on MTV, but this one, and their follow-up Get A Grip were in heavy rotation in my house when they came out. Neither album is terrific, not by any means, but sometimes it's nice to sit down and just enjoy an album that's not trying to be the next big thing, just trying to rock the way the band knew how to. Though, to be honest, I would put Get a Grip on before this one if I was going to listen to just one.
Mycket trist som en del bra inte väger upp för
Jag är ju verkligen svag för sån här klassisk rock. Även om jag aldrig skulle kunna skilja detta på say kiss eller vad som helst.
