Reviews (page 2 of 7)
Switch this review around with Bad Brains, I got a bad brain. I guess since I can't remember much of this, that makes it mediocre? Bad Brains, 2. Contino Sessions, 5.
Walk alone in the night
Great album. Chill. Yet also interesting. Another new (to me) artist that will go into the music library for further listens. Awesome. 4 "satisfied for some chill tuned" stars.
Biased but always loved this.
Nice surprise of an album. Will definitely return to this and explore the band more. Dirge and Aisha were especially good tracks.
Great band name! That was my first thought and then I saw their first album is named dead Elvis and has a bunch of devil Elvis and angel Elvis on the cover which I thought is very cool but also perfectly fitting for their sound. Now on to their sound, if I was going to describe it I’d have to call it like abandoned electric desert rock. There’s something about it that feels worn down and beaten. Like an abandoned gas station is the desert. It has repetitive moments but it all feels fitting and “on brand”. I wanted to compare this album to Puscifer‘s music, because I feel like they are inherently similar in tone. But the problem is they’re so different in delivery. For example, Puscifer is much more rock focused whereas this album is much more electronic vibe focused. Not to say that one’s better than the other, I like both. But much like a Puscifer album, it’s not perfect, there were three or four songs that I didn’t like either because they were too focused on the vibe and didn’t actually bring a song to the table or because they were just a little too repetitive for me. But as a whole, I actually really liked this album and I’m gonna be looking for a copy of this album in the future to add to my collection. Solid album.
Honestly I kinda really liked this. Was perfect for the headspace I was in, and is really awesome as background music. Very gradual builds. Interesting 3.6
Thoroughly enjoyed this, one to listen to much much more.
Rart at jeg ikke har hørt gjennom dette albumet før. Dirge husker jeg i alle fall. Knallåt! Rett i mi gate back in 99. Kommer til å ta dette med meg. Veldig kult!
I enjoyed this. Listened to it on my house stereo and it really filled the room. Not too spooky or inaccessible, well produced. I liked it more than I expected.
lowkey prob a 3 but i am a kind rater now....this album surprised me....LOVED some songs but really didn't care for others (sorry aisha)....i thought overall the instrumentals were great, though
My initial adverse gut reaction to the 90s Trip Hop / Big Beat influences was nullified and slowly turned into fascination the longer I kept listening amd gave the album a proper chance to reveal its charme. It's a weirdly addictive album!
Listened round and round all day. Liked it straight away.
The biggest problem of this record is simply that its opener "Dirge" is too good. I've loved it for many years, possibly more than a decade, and I believe will forever. It is hauntingly beautiful and definitely among the best tracks from the 50+ albums I've covered so far. Then you have some highly experimental sound that, really, did not resonate much with me. However, once you start listening to the later tracks, there are some highly decent compositions—"Lever Street", "Aladdin's Story". The last one is also very well down, great instrumental work. That being said, the way guitars are used on the record is generally unbelievable; the band manages to express tons of feelings and really make you wonder they are coming up with next. It is just that some half of the material sadly cannot compete with the genious "Dirge". I actually was going to rate this three, but thanks to the last several tracks it gets a deserved four. Dirge is something that already made me love this group long before I started listening the albums list. Given the work's originality, I'd say it is worth another try and maybe that 4 will get even more convincing.
Okay! I had heard of Death in Vegas but had no idea what music they made. This is nice. I kinda wish I had time to get deep into them, Massive Attack style.
This was better than expected. Started off quite good with Dirge and then continued to surprise me. Reminds me of Massive Attack's trip hop, as well as heavy Electronica like Orbital. Endless chord progressions are somewhat my thing.
2026.06.18.
some great tunes on this fantastic album really enjoyed listening
Total surprise. I'm hoping this isn't just the result of the mediocre 600s so far, but I thought this was terrific.
Strange album, initially I was pretty skeptical but it grew on me by the end.
Never heard of this band, but this was a really nice surprise. Kind of psychedelic, soundscape-y, and utterly unique.
4/5
Turned this on while we Cleaned, was the right tempo and lack of vocals to get us moving, but in any other situation we would not listen to this.
Number: 137 Date: 08//19/2026 Artist: Death In Vegas Album: The Contino Sessions Year: 1999 Style: Neo‑Psychedelia Trip Hop Familiarity: Extremely (5) Rating: 4 Before: ======= Another good one but completely differnt from Fleet Foxes which I had yesterday. Great opening song--compelling banger. Second song had vocals that grated at first, but then grew on me. As song 3, Death Threat, rolled around, I started to think I prefer their instrumentals. Song 4, Flying, is 7 minutes long. Aisha was a fun tune, it sounds like a mash up of music Snowden and Dean would have recommended years ago. The album remained interesting throughout. I don't know how to describe this music, which I like! My goal with this project has been to find new (to me) interesting music. Apparently one or more of the band's founders were DJs, and I can see that in the long, repetitive (but interesting) grooves, but it's not typical dance music. There's some new wave influence, some prog rock, some cool experimental stuff going on. I could do without songs 2 & 8, but really enjoyed the rest.
I quite enjoyed this. I've heard the name but can't pinpoint a song is theirs I've listened to
Don't know how I didn't find this when I was doing my trip hop deepdive but this is sick, good psychedelic rock feel on a couple songs
It's a shame how much people can't allow albums to be entirely of their time. Seems like music has to be up to date or from the 60s/70s or a copy of stuff from then. I like how you can place this in the late 90s. Electronic but with guitars and that most 90s of 70s influences krautrock making itself apparent. You had to make use of multiple vocalists too. See also David Holmes and Unkle.
Great use of synth, remind me to some trip hop album, but with a good component of percussion instead of the boom-bap or sampling jazz songs.
Better than remembered.
opening track is incred, i love how it builds. reminds me of angel by massive attack. i like the dark edginess to the production, its so captivating.
Weird ass music but I like it for some reason.
Relax, I will listen it when I'm driving too fast.
Good edm
It was an interesting and pretty chill album. I liked how the sound layers piled up in some tracks. Maybe, I will give it another listen sometime.
loud and hypnotic sounds of party leaving after damage done
I have not listened to this in such a long time. So long in fact I forgot that some of these songs were by DIV - in particular Dirge which I feels like has soundtracked moments of crisis/despair in so many TV/films. Aisha is a banger that has lived rent free in my head for years - I had no idea it was Iggy Pop.
An effective mix of electronica and shoegaze, aptly featuring Jim Reid and Bobby Gillespie to cement the slacker vibe. While many beats are processed, it relies heavily on guitars and synths, and feels like a band playing rather than the work of a DJ. With appearances from 90s stars as aforementioned, alongside input of rock luminaries such as Pop and The Stones ('Aladdin's Cave' is Jagger-Richards penned) it certainly feels steeped in classic guitar band tradition. 60s influence pervades throughout. 'Soul Auctioneer' is Gillespie doing a space-age Dylan vocal. The electronica is dark and repetitive; Dylan's influence keeps cropping up, the organ sound on 'Lever Street' feels like something off 'Highway 61 Revisited' for a drugged-up 90s after-party. When it's at its best it takes the funereal pace and darkened corners to new heights. 'Dirge' a superior, tenebrous melody, drenched in a 50s reverb vocal, great hook and amazing bassline; and 'Aisha' a masterpiece in twisted lyrics and delivery. It really is on the 4-cusp. Given the elements all combine into a very coherent whole, and given it never falls below enjoyable and peaks at superb, it likely deserves it.
Great album, the opener is a banger, reminds me of massive attack, unkle in their prime era. Love some trip hop with distorted guitars.
Honestly, I wasn't feeling particularly energized the first time I listened to this album today, so I fell asleep during the first song... But there's nothing surprising or bad about that! The opener here really does sound like some kind of lullaby, only a strange one — something gothic, some psychedelic, some trip-hop, but definitely dark. This electronic-guitar medley continues, though not bad, like a GIF of a truck driving toward a pole: the anxiety builds, but catharsis never quite arrives... Until "Aisha," where a screaming Iggy Pop tries on the role of a serial killer. After that, the tension eases, though I'd slightly rearrange the song order and put "Aladdin's Story" last. If The Chemical Brothers had evil twins, they'd definitely be called Death in Vegas. Anyone who enjoys unconventional electronic music should pick this up.
it was so good and so trippy, reminds me of portishead
Mostly ok. I wouldn’t object to listening again
Cooler than I was expecting. Almost like 99s alternative with a bit of 90s electronica.
This is what I wanted "Pornography" by The Cure to be. THANK you!
Cool, mystic, dark. Love th basslines
Another win for this project. I'd never heard of this group, but ended up really liking this album. Going to check out more if their stuff.
173/1001 First listen. Never heard of these guys. This was a good one. A refreshing change from so much daily mediocrity. After a couple listens I know I’ll come back to this group for sure. 7/10
it was good on a background
A standout album. Really interesting mix of songs that were enjoyable all the way through. With one exception - Aisha was a poor attempt at being edgy or something. A track to skip next time. Otherwise awesome.
Never heard of this artist before but I like it.
This is amazing, fantastic, spooky, energetic, I love it!
Really cool
I loved it. Very dark very cool Very beautiful at times
it kinda jammed hard Will I listen to again: 60%
A band I was not familiar with and an album I really enjoyed. Not worthy of a five but still really great
Surprisingly enjoyable, hadn't heard of them or the album before. The opening track seemed familiar, like I've heard it before somewhere but couldn't place where. A bit all over the place at times but it kinda added to its charm.
Really good assist from the Bobby Gillespie nonsense. In its time this was perfect comedown music and to my ears it has aged pretty well. All rise is outstanding
Riktigt coolt album!
I loved this! Really was trying stuff and seeing what flowed and sounded good in the sound scape. Really great.
• Dirge feels like a song that should've lost me with how repetitive it was, but the final 90 seconds of the song really hit for me. A great payoff to the build up throughout the song • I like the bass in Soul Auctioneer • I liked Aisha quite a bit • Aladdin's Story is also a nice song • I really like Neptune City. The synths are great, and it sounds like there's a huge variety of instruments on this song. Trumpets, a mouth organ, a sitar(?) as well as a lot of layered percussion and a traditional rock band lineup. This is easily the best song on the album in my opinion. I enjoyed this album. At times it fell into the background, but when it caught my attention it held it. I've never heard of Death in Vegas before, and I can't see why they aren't more well known. They remind me of Gorillaz in a few ways, and I really enjoyed the sound they had. I'll probably be checking out some more of their stuff in the future. Favourite song: Neptune City
Aisha & Dirge are great
The first track had me thinking that I was going to hate this album. It gets much better and overall turns out to be a pretty good album. I'll be skipping the first track in the future though.
I quite liked this. Nowhere as good as Zero 7, but the type of electronic music I generally prefer. 3.5 rounded up because they sample a Stones’ bootleg outtake from Exile on Main St. that I know well for Aladdin’s Story.
Gloomy, dark but liked it. Aisha was my song of the album with Dirge and Aladdin's Story being my other highlights
Maybe it's the recent run of mediocre albums that have melted my brain but I rather enjoyed this one.
Jim en Broken Little Sister. Death threat anticipa a Xtrmtr...
I was Flying after I heard this.
I was unimpressed when this popped up, but was very pleasantly surprised. Really solid album, with some great sounding drums, and Aisha is an absolute gem.
Actually enjoyed this a lot, though if it had vocals and was less instrumental and a little more song driven it could have been an all timer for me. I can see the influence it’s taken and had on similar bands especially in that industrial space, but overall it was just a really warm, gritty and enjoyable sound. Good background for study or work
Fun moody electronica with lots of fun guests.
Interesting psych stuff going on with punk rock elements. good background music while working on things. Wasn't bored of it or waiting for it to end, just kept me interested. probably a good 6.5/10
I need to listen to more Death In Vegas, they are like a really good Chemical Brothers, but with better tunes and real instruments like guitars. All the instrumentals were quality, drone fests, the only one misfiring for me was the purely electronic 'Blood Yawning' it did make me yawn. There is some inspired guest vocalists too; Iggy Pop doing his best Leonard Nimoy impression, and Jim Reid making noises in the way only he can. The sudden changes in style and tempo eg from Aisha to Lever Street just worked, like all the differing styles on this droney, dancey, rocky piece of work. Top stuff.
Interesting album, liked it!
Hacker music
Fun and unique.
i was surprised to enjoy this as much as i did. i went into this under the assumption that this would be a 2 at best. i ended up really enjoying the dark electronica. there was a string of songs toward the end that i didnt enjoy which brought the score down for me but those first few songs were low key bangers.
I thought this was going to be one thing and then it was totally not that thing. And it was great.
Really fun stuff - I don't know how I've never considered the idea of psychedelic trip hop before, but this really slam dunks that sound, even if the sound does get a bit samey at album scale.
Pretty crazy great album, it was unexpected honestly. Very electronic, industrial vibes, it’s a sign of the times because it sounds very 90s but I had never heard of the band or any songs before. I really enjoyed it!
Need lyrics but otherwise good sounds
What's not to like? Bit psychedelic, bit industrial, bit filthy, bit repetitive. All the best parts of good music for me.
1. intéressant, mélange de plusieurs style, oui! 2. Voix intéressante, bonnes textures, sympa! 3. un peu long, et répétitif. textures/mix tjrs bon. 4. Encore instrumental. Bon morceau groove un peu laid back sympa. 4-/5
I’m unsure if I’ve listened to the whole album before but it’s possible as I’ve always been a big fan of the singles, and still remember the video for Aisha. If I have listened to it before, I certainly haven’t listened enough as it was right up my street, and seemed effortless to listen and enjoy.
Not too bad for something labeled as electronic.
A sprawling, dark, semi industrial album that seems to have held up well. It didnt seem to find a massive audience first time around but in hindsight that could be because it was ahead of its time. The gravelly vocal, the driving baseline, the claustrophobic production all build a picture that is immersive and impressive.
Pretty good..Knew the first song, not the other ones. No idea what genre it could be called but I liked it.
Somewhat stereotypical late 90's/early 00's electronic, Matrix soundtrack-y on the surface. But there's some good basslines and an elevated shoegaze sound that take it up a notch. Enjoyed the sampling and it makes for good focus music. Standouts are leadoff "Dirge" which is simple but builds in a great way, as well as dark lyrics "Aisha".
Really enjoyed this. Probably the first album I’ve heard through this that I thought “ why haven’t I enjoyed this before now !!”
Dirge and Aisha stood out as the top tracks with the former finding its way onto my heavy rotation playlist. Whilst the rest of the album was pretty chill and good background music nothing really grabbed me but I will definitely re listen.
okay i kinda love
I came into this rolling my eyes, but each of these pieces build in interesting ways while drifting along in the background. So much electronica forgets that you can actually make a song out of loops and beats and the occasional diva vocal. I dig it.
I discovered this album when a friend sent me a batch of new electronic released burned to CD-Rs. I used to play it on busy nights at the bar where I was working at the time; it was highly effective at priming the pump. I love its blend of dark and soulful electronic sounds, guitar noise and propulsive rhythms. The aptly named “Dirge” layers soulful vocals and electronic effects over a bass line that sounds like early Jan Wobble-era P.I.L. “Aisha” is brilliant, with a creepy guest vocal performance from Iggy Pop, and “Broken Little Sister” is an ambient noise seance with Jim Reid from Jesus and Mary Chain. It would’ve benefitted from some editing, but it has the feel of a dystopian sci-fi soundtrack and absolutely holds up.
Yes! Some music that explores the limits of noise to the depths of rock. Interesting stuff
Grata surpresa. Baterias claras e precisas, guitarras harmoniosas, teclados sutis. Clima psicodélico e influências de Krautrock. Bom disco!
Pretty decent lofi scumbag electro.
Wow! Whatta surprise! I really liked this, but I can't describe why. It just HIT!
This was good, the songs have a real build and Aisha is a great tune. I listened to it loud with headphones which probably helped, the sound hits you hard Not quite 5* because I didn't think the last few tracks were as strong
8/10 - good trip hip pop electronica, Dirge is class
really interesting, there's so many different influences in here that it feels very unique. There are such a range of guitar stuff in here, like a load of cool distorted stuff and great chorussy clean stuff, like in the first song and lever street. Parts are definitely 'trip-hop' esque and remind me of some massive attack stuff, namely the ones with drum machines or looped breaks. The vocals aren't really centre stage either, which I think makes you pay more attention to the atmosphere and the instrumentals. I knew Andy Wetherall form the my bloody valentine remix, and I think what he did was great, as I feel like a bridge between rock and dance didn't exist, then did and now doesn't really. Nothing else really to say, just a very solid set of songs. Favourite songs: all. Overall around 7/10
I love that a band with no vocalist has to bring in several guest vocalists to put out an electronic/ shoegaze album with vocals. But what talent did they manage to gather? Iggy Pop and half of the Jesus and Mary Chain alone is enough to lock this into a solid four stars. Aisha is the stand-out track, but there's plenty more on offer, with Dirge being the rare case of an instrumental track that I could swear has vocals on it. The first half sounds like something Blur might have put out, if they actually made music that was any good that is.
Wow! Didn’t expect to see this one….
This is so quiet and dark and excellent. Like vampires at 3 am
Didn’t know what to expect but was impressed. It’s like massive attack meets the cardigans. Moody instrumental music and the tracks that feature vocals are often haunting.
Like a very cool soundtrack from a 2000-era Guy Ritchie movie
What an album - from the opener Dirge it just builds brilliantly until Aisha which is such a tune , feels dirty and gritty and a strong step away from the “big beat” they started with. The whole album flows brilliantly with a dark edge and I totally forgot just how good it was.
Dug it
good album. Would've much preferred some vocals. I want to use some of the songs and add vocals as a songwriting practice exercises. favourite track was Aladdin's story. I didn't add any into my playlists.
So far I’m hearing a less frightening Prodigy. Or maybe a less French sounding Air. Let’s continue I really go up and down with these guys. I like it, I don’t know about it, it’s ok…. Gosh this is a tough one. Would I listen to them again? I don’t know Would I recommend them to anyone? No Will I remember that I had heard them if they come across my plate again? No Does that matter? No Give it a go. Your ears won’t bleed.
coola mörka grooves och ursäktslös commitment
Wow, this is exactly what I started this challenge for. It feels like driving through an empty city at night with headlights cutting through fog. There’s tension beneath every beat, but it never explodes. It just keeps you suspended. It’s a bit therapeutic, and I’m confused about why I’m so into it. Also, I don’t think there’s a genuinely bad song. I’m not giving it five stars because I’m not sure it has replay value, but experiencing it on a cold workday morning while getting things done was genuinely an amazing feeling. The standout is Aisha because the way it arrives after so much quiet feels like a release, a kind of crescendo to everything before it. Definitely best experienced with noise-canceling headphones.
Definitely influences from hip hop and electronic mixed in with rock bass licks and drums. Strong instrumental tracks break up the lyrics giving an otherworldly sound. Different instruments are brought in, from banjos to organs, and all help to elevate this album from generic to very interesting. A story is told through the emotions felt while listening to the instrumentals rather than a clear dialogue expressed through lyrics. It’s out there and special in a way that few albums are.
actually surpisling good
In interesting onion to be peeled back in layers. Too British to have been successful in America. Deserves another listen.
It was okay. Every song was a vibe but nothing actually hooked me. Good background music.
This cover brings me a vampire energy, I loved it!
Never heard of them before this and I was surprised! I love some late 90s electronica so this will be in my rotation going forward!
Do I love this album because I’m a product of my time or is this just an incredible record? The Contino Sessions hit in 1999, when trip-hop was fading, big beat was getting goofy, and UK rock was scrambling for relevance. Death In Vegas slid in and made something grimy, cinematic, and cool as hell. “Dirge” set the mood—bleak and hypnotic. Then they pulled in Iggy Pop for “Aisha,” which sounded like the Stooges on ketamine. Dot Allison floated ghost-like through “Dirge” and “Broken Little Sister,” while Bobby Gillespie slithered across “Soul Auctioneer.” It was electronic, but it was also rock. It was narcotic, but still full of menace. It sounded like a hangover , which fit the era perfectly. Or at least that's how that era feels to me, looking back. So maybe it’s nostalgia, maybe it’s genius. Either way, The Contino Sessions still feels like 3 a.m. in a basement club that I shouldn’t have been in, and maybe that’s the point.
Solid album, really entrancing electronic rock. I haven't got much to say. I enjoyed. I'm glad I discovered it, but it didn't blew me away or anything.
Good - worth exploring more of their material.
Very surprising. Had hints of Chemical Brothers and Broadcast.
I was pleasantly surprised by this album. I think my issue with electronic music is the general lack of a melody but this had that. Personal enjoyment: 4/5 Relevance to this list: 4/5
🗯 Dirgey and glorious — post-punk, shoegaze, and trip-hop all tangled into one killer cult record. The second album from Death in Vegas pushed them beyond cult electro status, thanks to live instrumentation, big guest spots, and the sheer moodiness of its sound. Dirge is the obvious highlight — that brooding opener became a Levi’s ad, landed in The Blair Witch Project, and basically soundtracked an entire era of sync culture. Mercury nomination? Earned. What makes this one sing is the blend: buzzing electronics, tripped-out guitars, and guest voices ranging from Dot Allison to Bobby Gillespie, Iggy Pop, and Jim Reid. It’s gritty, hypnotic, cinematic — the kind of record that makes you want to chain-smoke in slow motion. Did it also lead to Oasis tapping them as producers later on? Maybe. Either way, The Contino Sessions buzzes and pops in all the right places. Not just a period piece, but a reminder of how intoxicating that late-’90s fusion of rock and electronics could be. Verdict: Excellent (cult, cinematic, and dirgey in the best way) For fans of: Massive Attack, Primal Scream, Spiritualized, tripping into neon at 2 a.m.
Very good
7/10
Sterk album, niet geweldig, maar wel divers, en anders dan tijdgenoten in het genre.
Fun one
Fun ambient vibes. The musical structures are engaging, keeps my ears engaged.
I really liked this and had not heard it before
I found this to be a pretty chill and enjoyable listen. I was assumed it would be pretty sprawling but felt more diverse than expected.
One of multiple electronica albums this week that I enjoyed more than I expected. Perhaps a sign to dive in a bit deeper? But despite enjoying it, I really don't know why this might be a must-hear-before-dieing record. It's an interesting mix of styles, but I highly doubt they're the only ones to ever have tried this particular cocktail.
This song “Soul Actioneer” is giving me Bob Dylan vibes with updated melodies. Not an album I would normally listen to but isn’t that the reason for the list. Open your mind and expand your horizons.
Listened to this in absolute darkness late at night, which elevated the experience for sure. Dirge is stellar, I'm a sucker for a good looped track and I love the slow build with the piled-on layers. Iggy Pop's manic vocals on Aisha are bizarre in the best way. Every song on this is interesting in some aspect, and just as things are getting increasingly grimy and sinister they throw a lighter curveball. One of my favorite new-to-me albums I've heard on this project so far, love how defiant of genre it is

Great music to cook to. Nice grungy, serene. Sometimes instrumental, sometimes like a modern Bob Dylan with an edge to it.
I find it interesting that this is listed on wikipedia as being only "neo-psychedelia" and "shoegaze" when more than anything this reminds me of the output of Coil between the years from 1984-1990ish. Which isn't not neo-psychedelia but it is also so much more. At moments it can seem a little derivative of the droning guitar work you might typically hear on a Joy Division track, but I am a fan of recursive music soooo... I liked it :)
Generally not a "electronic" band fan, but this album was way more chill and I actually really vibed with it. Hadn't heard of them before but I'll actually probably listen to this again in the future. Pleasantly surprised!
Feels very experimental and unique. I like it.
New to me, but will definitely revisit
All in all I liked it. Seems like good music to put on while i work
4.5 if this stupid website allowed it
sessions.. tietää että tulossa on uskomatonta paskaa. joo meil oli muutama sessio tuol continoossa tehdään sessions albumi siitä.. papaija. pitääkö verottajalle ilmoittaa mitä pornoa olen katsellut? joo jokainen video ja timestamps sanoo verohallinto. lisäksi kuva jokaisesta laukaisusta. ja video niin tulee palautuksia. tai jotain sellaista. pippelin mitat pitää saapua fyysisenä viestinä vähintään kolme kuukautta ennen verotusvuoden loppua. valtion tarjoama lääkäri voi katsoa urethrapotentiaalin. tätä kutsutaan äänityssessioksi. tämäntakia contino sessions kertoo siitä kuinka muusikko kävi tarkastamassa pilin useaan otteeseen aisha
Great work. Some parts were definitely trancier than others, but the bar was high
hard to find much information on with my usual cursory methods, tho i gather the band was originally associated with the big beat scene defined by the likes of the chemical brothers. i can still hear a little of that in the juiciest, most in-your-face moments, but this goes in a much trip hoppier and even pseudo-krautrock direction, with more instruments carrying the dance grooves. the tone is also just kind of subtly malicious, probably not a Good Times At The Rave record. v cool tho, maybe not the most precisely made music but that just enables the creativity...no two tracks sound alike, but there is a total World here of kinda timeless darkness...not looking forward, not looking back
7/10
frekar hart og kalt rafpopp. mjög hrifinn. líklega bakgrunns frekar en eitthvað sem ég hlusta á mikið en púki í mér.
The Contino Sessions was quite an enjoyable album. When i first saw this album's cover with the art, band name and album name, i thought that this was going to be a country album. While this album most definitely has elements of that genre, this mainly is an electronic album with some hints of rock as well. A lot of the songs could remind me of Underworld with the way they kept adding onto themselves as the songs progressed which i think is really cool. There were some points where this album could get pretty repetitive but this is an electronic album and that should be expected by this point. This album was definitely an interesting addition to this list and a good one at that. Best Song: Aisha Worst Song: Broken Little Sister
Death in Vegas' 1999 record is chock full of incredibly engrossing psychedelic jams with a surprisingly mechanical twist and deeply frigid core. The psychedelia feels constantly engaging and does not ever feeling overextended within its repetitious hypnotism, leading to an album that feels simultaneously singular and underdeveloped in idea yet sprawling in execution. Wonderful. (sorry for this blurb being a touch subpar, I'll try to do better another day. not in my bag ATM) 8/10
The Contino Sessions is the second album from British electronic group Death in Vegas, of which Richard Fearless is the primary member. Death in Vegas makes music that is a mix of genres. Generally, their songs have a downtempo, trip-hop sound, but they add disparate elements from alt-rock, like effect-laden guitars and vocals. With these elements, Death in Vegas is grouped with neo-psychedelia and "shoegaze" - the sub-genre inspired in part by My Bloody Valentine and others, groups that spend most of their shows staring at their effects pedals. This is an interesting collection of tracks, that are engaging and influential; these songs have been used fairly extensively for tv, movie, and video game soundtracks.
I really liked this and I don't know why. Good groves, like a mix between EDM and guitar rock, which I really enjoyed.
not my thing but i respect it
This album was so close to being something I loved. Dirge and Broken Little Sister are great, I love when they lean into their shoegaze urges. But then sometimes it’d be a little too electronic for me, or I wouldn’t really notice the music at all. So good album, so close to being a great album
Loved this!
Surprising.
This album is more interesting to me than many of its contemporaries in the genre. The incorporation of acoustic instruments really adds depth.
Great album! one of the best of his genre...Aisha with Iggy epic!
pretty good for electronic
Back in 1999, I was all about the 90s rave and dance music scene when this album was released. Music magazines were raving about it, but I didn’t know anyone who really connected with it. I remember skimming through it at a record store, not quite getting it, and passing it up. Years later, I gave it another shot, and it totally clicked. The mix of trip-hop, breakbeats, neo-psychedelia, rock, post-punk, and a touch of gothic vibes is so unique. The album’s biggest struggle was probably finding its audience, it was too electronic for rock fans, too raw and gritty for the club scene. It’s this strange, cool record that didn’t quite fit anywhere.
Biggest surprise alongside Leftfield so far (maybe I like British electronica after all). Not all stuck but Dirge, Aisha and Lever Street were excellent.
Pleasantly surprised by this album. Very simple, but reminds me of a proto-lofi sound with great use of distortion and buildup. Definitely feel like some of the songs overstay their welcome and songs with vocals are below the instrumentals, but a really solid listen. Top tracks: Dirge, Aisha, Lever Street
Eclectic but still somewhat coherent album, rich and full sound. My kind of music! 4.3
I'm really surprised by the album. I may have heard of the band before. I'm not sure about that. But I didn't know the music before. Contrary to a large number of reviews, I like the music very much. Perhaps it is a little too repetitive. In any case, it was fun to listen to the album. I think I will listen to it again. 4/5
Great opening song, perfect blend of electronica and soft rock. Like someone rightly pointed out - a really good blend of 90s and 2000s, just in time for new millenium. Other songs on the album keep the same convention, but I didn't notice anything as good as Dirge. Overall a good record, something to keep in the back of your head for a moody evening.
Nice.
Excellent album … with added Iggy Pop (What more do you want? … he’s vibrating!!)
My first thought when I saw this was 'What the hell is this?' and then I saw I had Aladdin's Story saved in my liked songs. Whatever my expectations were for this album were immediately dashed when Dirge came on and I was very intrigued with what I heard. Some songs on here are a miss, Aisha looks to be the big track on here but I didn't care for it at all, Neptune city feels a bit out of place compared to the rest of the album. Apart from those two, I loved every song on this album. Death Threat feels like it would be a looping music track in an edgy 2000s action flash game on Newgrounds, Flying is the peak of the album for me. The first four tracks on this album really grabbed me in a way that not many albums have on this list. Highlights: Dirge, Death Threat, Flying, Lever Street, Aladdin's Story, Broken Little Sister
Had never heard of these guys - really enjoyed this album. Great background music too. Solid. I'll say 3.5 -round up to 4.
That was actually quite decent! Very shoegazey 4/5
Definitely just found another album where we have completely different opinions. The album was far from perfect, but I enjoyed it a lot. Dirge was an absolute banger. In fact I felt most of their purely instrumental songs were bangers, and the songs where they attempted lyrics were my least favourite.
Goth electro? This is dark and forboding music - any of these songs could be used for a soundtrack to a gritty movie. Guitars buzz, Iggy Pop mumbles about serial killers, basses rumble and I get to feel all uneasy. A really great listen. Best Tracks: Dirge; Soul Auctioneer; Aisha
I enjoyed this but I'm also not sure why it's here
che copertina e che album cunty ragazzi 💋
Good strengrh quality trip hop, adresses all your grooving needs whilst dealing with those hard to reach ideas. Served from a standard tin of bass l. lovely with a plate of chips and a beer!
Even without Bobby Gillespie this sounds like Vanishing Point/Extrmntr-era Primal Scream, but that's not a bad thing at all.
Dark and stormy... it's quite the journey and much to navigate. (Oh hi Sam! 👋)
Highly enjoyable neo-pychedelic, electronic, shoegaze album, it was my first listen and I already love this album a lot.
An interesting album, I liked Siege and Lever Street the most.
This was brilliant. Will be listening to it again. There's a lot going on, big soundscapes, layers upon layers but it didn't become difficult to listen to. Impressed by the guest stars too. Not quite a 5, but chuffing close!
I kind of like this stuff. Top track is Aisha, I can't resist anything with Iggy's growl.
Noisy atmospheric shoegaze electronica.
i had never heard of this group or album before, but wow, what a great surprise. reminded me a few times of depeche mode’s 90s output mixed with trip hop of that time.
This was surprisingly good. Loved the Iggy Pop cameo in Aisha
I like late 90s/early 2000s electronica, but these 5min+ songs are just a little much unless it's on in the background. Thank goodness I realized during the original last track that the rest was bonus material. My rating would have been lower had I listened to 130min of this.
Did not know this one. Wonderful and dark production. Electronica meeting with Brit Rock influences. Sounds familiar and not at the same time. It's got that repetitive quality to it that caves you in but never gets boring. A discovery for sure.
Energy is strong and textures are interesting, sometimes striking. One likes the balance – and synergy (to use a '90s sort of word) between outright club music and '90s vintage alt rock The Reichian repetitions are perhaps the best – and artiest – feature but pay diminishing dividends as this goes on (and goes on a bit too long, it must be said). Still, there’s a considerable amount to like, and like slightly more than Massive Attack, say, though less than My Bloody Valentine. “Neptune City” and “Flying” were most compelling cuts, but everything is listenable and interesting, if a bit overdone at times and overlong, too, which was an occupational hazard for ‘90s acts, for course. One also feels that the plethora of remixes aren’t beneficial, on the whole.
I thought this would be a lot worse based off of the reviews, but it honestly isn't that bad. I think this is one of the better electronic albums on this list. It's a lot more interesting than that Shaman (or whatever they were called) album. Very unique beats and instrumentation. Low 4.
Ahora es un sonido al que estamos acostumbrados pero cuando el disco salió fue muy rompedor. Me quedo con la de Bobby Gillespie
Chill and good electronic music
Didn’t think this was going to be my sort of thing. Turns out I was wrong. Borderline between a 3 and a 4, so I’m feeling generous.
Always been a fan of Death in Vegas, ever since the Animatrix soundtrack - I don't feel that this is their best album (I would have put Dead Elvis on the list personally), but their 'not so food's is still pretty great trip hop all told :) Will definitely listen again, as I have many times before in the past!
Never heard this before. I don't love everything on the album, but as I listened through I appreciated it more. The best songs are at the end and remind me of Jean Michel Jarre.
I'm sorry. I like it.
Really enjoyed this. Didn't hurt that Broken Little Sister had Jim Reid from The Jesus and Mary Chain on vocals...can recognize that voice anywhere.
Mocne 8/10
An enveloping Lush, fuzzy, bass driven sound Nearly great album
Don’t know what to say. For some reason this just clicked with me. Seems like most people dislike it but it settles my mind. I definitely prefer the instrumental only tracks, though. 4/5
Only heard partially. Liked it a lot? Is that the dude from Gorillaz?
Gorillaz vibe. Very nice surprise
Surprisingly good
I think on another day I might have found this quite grating. But I listened to this while cooking dinner and really vibed with it.
Surprisingly a bit more intriguing than I would have thought. Cool instrumental parts.
Trippy good stuff 4/5
Actually awesome and new to me.
Never listened to Death in Vegas before! This is a really cool record. A unique amalgamation of sounds. This one breaks the mold for artistic and experimental approaches to conventional pop music. Those records tend to be interesting but not soulful or something you could just throw on. This is definitely something I could think you could just have in the background.
Unknown to me. I found it a little weird but mostly quite enjoyable
Dark, murky sensibilities meet up with the ‘90s Big Beat dance sound. It’s relentless, and maybe a touch repetitive, but an enjoyable listen throughout.
What an album. Skeptical at first, then got me into a groove on the bike. Love the thick, rumbling bass lines contrasted against the lighter guitar and organ riffs. Waiting and anticipating to see where each song would go. Best surprise of my year as an audioslave so far.
Very diverse but refreshing group of tracks. All of them have a great atmosphere and production. Definitely an album I probably wouldn't have discovered without this generator, so thank you Mr. Generator.
First half was great. Nice Trip-Hop / shoegazy sounds. Sort of trailed off in the second half.
Pretty cool.
That was a strange yet somehow a pretty soothing album. I feel like that is an album that I normally wouldn't like but something about it was just really cool. The guitar effects and just overall song structure that were in each song were all so different that it was impossible to know what was coming next. Definitely gets a point up for being extremely original. Aladdin's Story with the horn sounded like the gangster level in Time Splitters 2.
Holy trip-hop love it. This album is dirty af. Like alien drug music. Or dark web music. Idk something dark about it that I love. Aladdin's Story is a pretty one. Cool that it's also a Stone's song but was never declared for publishing rights. Then goes right back into a NIN sounding song. This album was all over the place in a great way.
this is a weird trip hop record but somehow I enjoyed listening to it a lot.
Good! Atmospheric, solid rotation album
Better than I expected. Didn't like Aisha much but the rest of the album was pretty enjoyable especially for a genre I don't typically care for.
Wouldn't go back to it, but the first song was amazing
At times cheesy, but highly engaging! Good driving music
Death in Vegas?? hm. This first track sounds familiar. OH! fuck yeah I know this song. I like it! this is kind of a nice little treat. Didn't know what to expect here. but I'm diggin. This is cool has a dark type of ambience like Massive Attack. We'll say 4 on this one.
Obligatory "never listened to this whole album before outside of a few tracks", and I don't know why I didn't. Maybe I actually did and forgot. Either way I'm usually very down for these kind of down tempo, trip-hop, electronic type affairs. I can see how people will find this incredibly repetitive, but I really like the slow build that they employ on a lot of the tracks. The soundscapes and musical themes all develop over time into something more, and a whole big mood.
really cool blend of trip-hop and rock, although it does seem to lose a bit of its creativity in the second half. but the first half is killer, really cool production
degenerate, borderline satanic, but catchy
1st time listening 8/10 Genuinely surprised by how good it was. Could improve a lot if listened to again. Favorite tracks: dirge, soul auctioneer, lever street, aladdin's story, one more time
I enjoyed this quite a bit and had never heard of this group before.
Pretty good!
Somehow, I missed this when it came out, and for the subsequent 25 years. So, that you 1001 Albums for bring it to my attention. It defies easy categorisation, but I can see similarities with many other bands in the alternative , drone, electronic, shoegazing communities. Dirge, for me, is the stand-out track, but I've a feeling that the whole album will be back on my normal playlist soon.
A rather accurate representation of where British music was heading down in the years of post-Britpop and trip-hop, Death in Vegas' The Cortino Sessions is an ambitious collection of instrumental adventures and vocal diversification. Featuring the likes of Bobby Gillespie and Iggy Pop, Death in Vegas make do with an often hedonistic experience that can rely on disorienting yet effective grooves that is very much driven home by the dance heavy second disc with its plethora of Dirge remixes. Favorites: Dirge, Soul Auctioneer, Flying, Aisha, Aladdin's Story, Broken Little Sister, Neptune City, One More Time.
Surprised how much I liked this. Started really strong and petered out a bit but enjoyable!
A nice surprise. Heavily influenced by the likes of Massive Attack and Portishead, it was an interesting journey.
This album had me right off the bat. The opening track is great, and the album stays strong through the end. Very interesting combination of rock and EDM. This is definitely an album that I'm going to try to pick up on vinyl 4/5
I actually enjoyed this. Not usually one for this genre.
That was good, not massively memorable but easy enough to listen to
Probably a 3.5, I was quite suprised to find a couple of tracks I liked the sound of here even though the general style isn't something I'm that into. Nice to get something I'm unfamiliar with that I'd like to dig into deeper.
Very 90s. I like.
Alright
Mostly instrumental, this album starts off a bit strange and disconnected but ends up with a solid stretch of unique rock instrumental songs.
Pleasantly enjoyable. Unique tracks with an awareness of different styles. If disc 2 didn't exist, easily a strong 4, maybe a 5. Sadly, there's enough weak tracks to drop this to a weak 4.
much distortion with deep sounds
nice and trippy
I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. It still would be background music but it would be fun background music
Pretty good
This was cracking. Completely missed them as a band but will check out a bunch more now.
This was an easy listen while I was working. I caught some Daft Punk, NIN, and Moby vibes throughout. I’m excited to listen to some of the other albums now (though skipped many of the remixes in disc 2 of this one now so maybe I’ll go back to those first).
**Lyrics:** The lyrics in "The Contino Sessions" are sparse but effective, often serving as additional layers to the music rather than focal points. Tracks like "Dirge" and "Aisha" feature haunting, repetitive phrases that contribute to the album's atmospheric and hypnotic quality. While not lyrically complex, the words complement the music perfectly, adding to the overall mood and ambiance. **Music:** The music in "The Contino Sessions" is eclectic and expansive, drawing from a wide range of influences including electronic, rock, and psychedelia. Songs like "Dirge" and "Soul Auctioneer" are driven by pulsating electronic beats layered with distorted guitars, creating a dark and brooding atmosphere. Other tracks like "Aisha" and "Broken Little Sister" incorporate elements of trip-hop and ambient music, showcasing the band's versatility and willingness to experiment. **Production:** The production on "The Contino Sessions" is top-notch, with Richard Fearless and Tim Holmes masterfully blending electronic and organic elements to create a cohesive sonic experience. The album is meticulously crafted, with each sound carefully placed and mixed to perfection. From the shimmering synths to the crunchy guitars, every element shines through, contributing to the album's immersive and enveloping sound. **Themes:** Thematically, "The Contino Sessions" explores notions of darkness, alienation, and introspection. The album's title itself alludes to a fictional character, Count Girolamo Contini, adding a sense of mystery and intrigue to the proceedings. Tracks like "Dirge" and "Soul Auctioneer" delve into themes of despair and disillusionment, while others like "Broken Little Sister" and "Neptune City" evoke a sense of longing and melancholy. Throughout the album, there's a pervasive sense of unease and uncertainty, as if peering into the depths of the subconscious. **Influence:** "The Contino Sessions" has had a significant influence on the electronic and alternative music scenes since its release. Its innovative blend of genres and meticulous production techniques have inspired countless artists and producers across various genres. The album's dark and atmospheric soundscapes have become emblematic of the late 90s electronic music scene, influencing subsequent acts such as The Chemical Brothers, Massive Attack, and UNKLE. **Pros:** 1. **Innovative Sound:** "The Contino Sessions" pushes the boundaries of electronic music, blending genres in innovative ways. 2. **Atmospheric:** The album's dark and brooding atmosphere sucks listeners in and holds them captive from start to finish. 3. **Meticulous Production:** The attention to detail in the production elevates the album, creating a rich and immersive listening experience. 4. **Versatility:** Death In Vegas demonstrates their versatility as musicians, seamlessly incorporating elements of electronic, rock, and psychedelia into their sound. **Cons:** 1. **Sparse Lyrics:** Some listeners may find the sparse lyrics lacking in depth or substance, wishing for more lyrical complexity. 2. **Occasional Repetition:** Certain tracks rely heavily on repetition, which could be seen as either hypnotic or monotonous depending on the listener's perspective. 3. **Intense Atmosphere:** The album's dark and intense atmosphere may be off-putting to some listeners seeking lighter or more uplifting music. In conclusion, "The Contino Sessions" by Death In Vegas is a masterful work of art that continues to captivate listeners with its innovative sound, meticulous production, and evocative themes. While not without its flaws, the album remains a timeless classic that has left an indelible mark on the electronic music landscape. With its blend of electronic beats, distorted guitars, and haunting melodies, "The Contino Sessions" is a sonic journey that rewards repeated listens and continues to influence generations of musicians and listeners alike.
Another solid album with some nice chill beats. I enjoyed it. Dirge and Flying were some likes.
I liked this more than I thought I would seeing the album cover and band name. First thoughts were that it sounds very much like massive attack/chemical brothers/other 90s dance music but I feel like there were some unique wrinkles in there like the 70s-rock-esque organs they’d mix in. Overall pretty good listen with some unique and interesting songs
Grungy, hip, moody. Great vibe to this record and has some funky sounds. Was not familiar with this band at all before this project. This is one I’m happy to have discovered.
Feeling good so rounding up to four from 3.5⭐️. Fun album here. Goes all over the place in sense of diff genres. All still have some weird industrial vibe though even the tracks with horns. I can easily have this on as background noise.
cool
The Contino Sessions turned out very differently than I expected it to after two songs. I'm going to have to revisit this one as it was full of surprises.
Enjoyed this, especially the guest appearances from Bobby Gilipse, iggy pop and Jim Ried added to the overall album sound, added to my list.
I enjoyed this one. Cool sounds
Some of this was pretty miserable however the songs I enjoyed, Broken Little Sister and Lever Street, were really great. Hard to rank it.
Very odd, and right at the junction between rock and electronic music, which is an interesting place to be. Iggy Pop showing up was good, albeit strange, but Dot Allison guested on my favourite song - dirge
Ganska bra faktiskt några låtar som var riktigt bra. Några bra beat med groove och intressanta låtar generellt.
Great album, had never listened to Death In Vegas!
its got its own vibe
I like it … like “moody” electronica w some cool influences … 3.5 stars
Amazing!
Really loved this record. Love the electric soundscapes composed to glitches, loops, and shreds. I really felt like this one took me on a journey.
What a journey with this one. At first i really didnt like it, the first song left me unimpressed and the second song i actively didnt like. Then the build up to Aisha really convinced me, the way it starts off noisy and industrial but very gradually starts introducing catchy riffs until it reaches critical mass and then just rips into rock, and then the come down from aisha feels like an epilogue. The album would be 5 stars if soul auctioneer and broken little sister werent on it. Still, impressive that it managed to win me over. 4 stars
the album had a fun vibe, though, especially "Dirge"
Interesting. Some shitty weird shit. Mostly really good weird shit.
I don’t think I’ve heard Death In Vegas before. For a second, I was thinking of the album Heaven Or Las Vegas by the Cocteau Twins but that isn’t this. I noticed that by the fact that they are different. Let’s listen! Songs I already knew: none Favourites: Aisha, Aladdin’s Story I enjoyed this album quite a lot. I loved the build up in Dirge, and the climax into the rubber synths sounded fantastic. The continuation of the album was great, with my favourite being Aladdin’s Story. This feels like another good album to study to, so I may have to give that a try. A good album to zone out to and put you in flow state.
Very alien, dystopian vibes. It reminds me a lot of some of the Gorrilaz work. Great music to relax to for sure.
I rather liked this - shoegaze-adjacent/trip-hop. Iggy Pop's vocal was good.
dirge- yeah. 7 or 8. i um. i dont have much to say you just know why. soul auctioneer- im prolly not gonna finish this album. i like the weird bass noise. alien music. i like the imagery. 7 or 8 death threat- strange noises. drum beat. 6 or 7 flying- i do feel like im flying. i like that heartbeat monitor sorta thing. 7 or 8 aisha- noise. shit is crazyyyy. 8 lever street- wack. um. its like a uh whats it called. i bet it was really cool whatever i was about to say. 6. aladdins story- sing it sister. its kinda funky. it feels like video game music idk. 7 broken little sister- noises. um 6 or 7 neptune city-
Simple and dense
Glad I heard this album. Dark dirge. Most likely will not play it again
The late-career indie flourishes Death In Vegas managed to bring back to '99 are by far the worst parts of the Sessions. The tracklist dilutes the rapping to the point of endearment. Elsewhere, little is predictable track-to-track except British electronic wankery, which is of course high-value stuff. The fusion into electronic rock is singular, and one can imagine many cheap imitations. Which this album, thankfully, is not.
Pretty crazy album. Gave some blur/gorillaz vibes at times. I did enjoy, might listen again.
Love the synth. Love the noise. Love the distortion. Faves: Flying & Aisha.
Very atmospheric. Type of music I feel like I have to listen to with noise cancelling headphones or surround sound to get the right effect. Really enjoyed the vibe it creates. Some alien-y sounds and goopy funky electronic noises and laconic/drawling vocal but not too much to put me off. Some weird lyrics lol
finally some good fuckin food
Better than I expected. And it’s trying so hard to be liked, bringing in the guest vocalists and everything. It meets the listener half-way, and I’ll return the courtesy by bumping them up to a 4.
Wow, this was an unexpected surprise!
Had a lot of fun with this one, will definitely need to revisit!
Aishaaaa
Aisha, we've only just met and I think you ought to know I'm a murderer I have a portrait on my wall, he's a serial killer I thought he wouldn't escape, Aisha, he got out 4/5
Another new one for me. Easy four stars. Dirge is brilliant, the rest isn’t far behind.
Started off not liking it, morphed to okaying it, and gradually got to really liking it. Vibes of instrumental Pink Floyd, with a touch of Jesus and Mary Chain.
Le mélange d'eletronic, de showgaze et de psychedelique est vraiment intéressant et unique. Ce n'est pas un album parfait, mais la qualité de production et de composition est présente. Définitivement à réécouter. 8/10
Dark and driving. Seemingly rockier and denser than Massive Attack but not all that different or better. And certainly nowhere near the art rock of MBV, say. “Neptune City” elevates and confirms this is music well suited to the gym and perhaps deep thinking work, less so a lovely summer day. “Flying” might be the best cut, the edgy banjo breakdown feeling Steve Reich-ish. And it goes on too long, starting to sound like soundtrack filler after a time.
I actually really enjoyed this! Couldn’t listen to this all the time, but a few pretty great songs.
Awesome just my style. Rating: 4.5
Interessante plaat. Ik had geen idee wat te verwachten, maar was aangenaam verrast
Best so far
I didn't think all the songs are as outstanding as others, but with Dirge, Flying and Aisha, there's much greatness to behold
Edgy in a good way BT - Dirge - Death Threat - Aisha - Aladdin's Story - Broken Little Sister
pretty good album. fast paced eurotrash. 4 stars.
Chill vibes. Late 90s matrix style dance music.
tuvo cool
I hope I will die in Vegas
Never heard this before. The discovery of the week. Dirge is a flat out killer song. Just mesmerizing. Aisha and Luther's Funk are damn good too. Not perfect but this was a pleasant surprise to my ears.
I saw the year and genre and quivered at the prospect of another long, self indulgent lad mag era production. But wait, what's that - interesting production? Kinda cool/abstract lyrics? Genre bending? Not bad Mr Vegas, not bad...
Interesting sound. Would like to listen more
I dug this, I reminded me of the stuff Primal Scream was doing around this same time (Bobby Gillespie even sings on one of the tracks) although it isn't as fun as Vanishing Point or as aggressive and scary as XTRMNTR. I guess if those two albums had a baby it might sound something like The Contino Sessions.
Great album of its time
There's something about this album that reaches deep. The grimy textures and the late night feel. Always loved it.
I never even knew that an album of this caliber that I somehow hadn't heard was lurking out there. This is amazing. Best old new to me album I've heard in quite a long time. Hot damn!
