Reviews (page 6 of 6)
Not mad about it, not excited about it. I didn’t need it on this list.
One good song
I love rap, was really into Kanye’s first few albums, and really enjoy Lupe’s later career albums (Tetsuo & Youth onward), so I was surprised how little I enjoyed this. His flow is pretty good and the lyricism is pretty good, but I mostly hate the production. It just sounds lame and hasn’t aged super well I think. Obviously “Kick, Push” is a classic, but few other moments on this record really appealed to me.
Every cut sounds the same.
Listening to Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor leaves you hungry and sober. Daydreamin' is the only saving grace, because it reminds me of Glory Box by Portishead.
Rap crap
It seems like this was significant for a period in time but that it’s stuck there. Time moved on; it didn’t.
Synes da va greit nok, egentlig
Not my bag, but I've heard worse, Uh!
I did not use a private session, though I should have. Not my music and too much use of the N word. I'm sure Fiasco was meant to be tongue in cheek, but it fits.
Why is this album on this list?
Personally not for me, but I can appreciate the creativity to the beats and rhythms
Ass album cover but didn’t listen too much

Interesting. Jay-Z ish
Not my thing. But I did listen to the entire album.
Stylish, nice flow. Still really empty album for me.
Comes across pretty basic
It's alright hip hop for me. Never heard of him before today, he has a really nice flow but it gets a little stale over the length of the album. Good beats and some of it is catchy just not for an entire album. I can definitely see how people would like this though.
2/5
This was okay, I guess. Not really my thing. He reminded me a lot of Jay-Z.
This went from a 3 at the start to a 1 after the following lyrics: Now come on everybody, let's make cocaine cool We need a few more half naked women up in the pool And hold this MAC-10 that's all covered in jewels And can you please put your titties closer to the 22s? And where's the champagne? We need champagne Now look as hard as you can with this blunt in your hand And finished as a 2. At times this was an absolute abomination, as deep as a puddle of urine and equally enticing. But by the end there was enough in the beats and music to kick it up a notch. 1.5 rounded to 2, just.
I found most of this repetitious, formulaic and forgettable like a lot of the hip hop of this era. Had to punch out on the excessive and annoyingly long outro… 2.5/5
Semi modern hip hop, nothing too substantial
I’ve always liked the song, Kick Push but this album was disappointing. Especially since the last track is 11 minutes of him thanking random people
Sonically cluttered. Lacking dynamic range. This had some nice moments, but overall was an exhausting listen. And that 12 minute outro...bro, that's what liner notes are for. Standout track: The Instrumental, American Terrorist
I hope it's good food(I don't drink by the way).
Very well produced hip-hop album (produced by Jay-Z, Kanye West, Pharrell Williams etc.), perhaps it is a bit too busy even. The music is enjoyable enough while I listen to it, but after a few songs, I already forget what I've heard a few minutes earlier. Also, the album is way too long, with over 70+ minutes. Somewhere between 2 and 3 stars, downgraded to 2 overall.
So very bored by this.
I held off on listening to this for a long time because I thought it was going to require concentration like a lot of hip hop with dense lyrics, but to me this all seems pretty basic. The Instrumental is some real teenage makes-you-think drudgery with some especially straightforward beats. He Say She Say all seems to be surface level. I really didn't like Daydreamin' to begin with, the lazy sampling of an old track gave it the feeling of trip hop, but the verses pulled it back. The Cool reminds me of a musical interlude from a scare-them-straight, stay-in-school educational video schools make you watch in your early teens. I think my issue with this and other "socially-conscious" rap is that the identity and aim of the music is negative, an overt attempt to reject and be the opposite of mainstream rap, instead of just being different by being free and making its own path, which would lead to more possibilities in the music. By trying to oppose mainstream rap, this is still tied to it.
Sencillamente, me aburre escucharlo.
Not my style i dont even think its that good
Slechts 2 sterren.
Production on this is good, if a little dated and of it's era - a halfway between the maximalist Kanye, and the RnB/Hip Hop hybrid of the early 2000s. My biggest gripe is the lyrics - Lupe is clearly a talented rapper and delivery is mostly OK, but his writing is really not for me. A select few have somewhat interesting wordplay, but is mostly very simple and predictable. Best Tracks: - Daydreamin Worst Tracks: - American Terrorist - Hurt Me Soul Rating: 4/10
It's not even the album with "Battle Scars" :c
Boring. Weird that this is in the same era as J.Dilla, The Ummnah, even KanYe.
I hate Lupe’s voice & intonation, so a few cool bars don’t compensate for it. Standout track is: “Pressure”
Not my cup of tea. I didn't bother listening to the intro and outro. Still had a few songs that I enjoyed! I added 5 songs from the album to my '1001 albums favorite songs' playlist.
I love hip-hop, but this is not my cup of tea. A little too breezy and upbeat. Well produced and with solid, thoughtful lyrics. I just prefer a little more grit in my rap.
Doing this I have found, to my surprise, that I enjoyed most of the rap and hip-hop on the list. This album not so much The production is weird, his rapping is monotonous and lacks variety and his lyrics are generic. It sounds like everything else from this era.
fine but not for me
I liked this album at the time, but it’s boring
While there are a couple of really good songs on this one (Real, The Instrumental, and The Cool being stand outs) by the end of the album I could not wait for it to finish. Way too long.
Not for me
He did a pretty decent album, then ‘Outro’ pushed it to the floor, kicked it in the nuts, stamped on its face, did a shit on it and then pissed on it for more than 10 minutes.
fiasco by name
Not for me
There’s some catchy stuff here, but a lot of it is really nothing special and the 12 minute thank you track is horribly boring. Took away a star for that.
Very mediocre
Why do rap albums have to be so fucking long?! At least jazz albums generally have the good grace to release the listener after 35-45 minutes. This is 72 minutes! Not my taste, not going back.
It was back in 2007 hanging out with Jay Z when he was talking about this Fiasco fella. We weren’t sure. It all sounded a bit the same and if honest, we thought it was boring. Roll on Len scoffing down some of the buffet. He loved this bean dish. He has to be careful. He suffers from lots of food allergies. Most of the top 14. He scoffed these beans without checking the way Len does at a buffet. Before I even had a chance to stop him, he was bright red, throat swelling up! Fortunately Iggy Pop was there and he only carries Epipens with him everywhere. It’s the only way he can keep moving like he still does. Len soon came back to normal! Very fortunate! We coined this incident Len’s Lupin Fiasco! 2.3
I understand that this album may have started a thing, but it’s not even the best Lupe fiasco album
Didn't find it appealing.
It was better than I expected. It started out pretty good, but then dropped off as it went on entirely too long.
Not my favourite style of music so I didn't really enjoy the album
2.5
If you like rap then this is definitely an album worth listening to. Musically, it has a softer sound. Something different.
Unfortunately, another bog average 2000s rap album. Unnecessarily long and bloated (72 minutes to be exact: did we really need a 12-minute outro of Lupe thanking everyone?), and not actually that good with the exception of: ‘Kick, Push’, ‘I Gotcha’, ‘He Say She Say’ and ‘Sunshine’.
Stopped listening halfway through, during Daydreamin. At first I mused about the difference between "spoken word" and "rap music" and then I just got tired of feeling like I was being preached at--maybe this is due to the monotony of his tone across tracks.
This was fine. Not as interesting as some of the more recent hip-hop on the list. Minus one star for the 11 minute shout out filled outro.
Pop+Rap, 2006 -> 2
noh niin perus pelleilylä voi kahta enempää..
I don't know if it was because I was already feeling ill, but the production on this made me feel very nauseous. Also awful name for an album, extremely dated album cover and some lyrics were cringe. Still, he seems conscientious. 2 stars.
Þessi rappplata var nú bara allt í lagi. Mér leiddist ekki að hlusta á hana nema 12 mínútna þakkargjörðahátíðina í lokin. Þá leiddist mér alveg hrikalega og bara það lag togar þessa annars ágætu plötu úr þremur niður í tvær stjörnur
Turns out that if Kanye was well-adjusted then the albums would be mid.
#404. This just sounds like he's trying real hard to be like Kanye West. And also he said several times You already know, and something about a fool and liquor. Well you know what sir, I don't already know. The fuck are you talking about? Are you the fool with the liquor? Is this a cautionary tail against fools and liquor? What are you actually talking about? You know what.. I don't care. 2/5: I'm going home
Not my cup of tea
Right now, for the first half of the album I was just wishing he'd shut the fuck up and leave just the sound track. There was some really good mellow easy listening vibes coming from it. The second half not so, and then that track appeared. I believe it's been used in some adverts, and it is a stand out track. Daydreaming a beautiful piece of music. A beacon of light in and otherwise dreary landscape. But even that can't drag the rest above a 2.
Not as terrible as most from this genre so I’ll give it a massive 2 stars
Better than I expected from a Rap artist, probably due to the samples and arrangements of the songs. This was also helped by the non-extreme lyrics. He seemed to be an exemplar of his genre, when it comes to lyrical content. Not that I was really concentrating on them too heavily. Worth a 2 (about the same level as Deep Purple's Machine Head).
So I thought there were good songs and ok songs on here, was ready to give it a 3. Then you get to this self indulgent Oscar speech at the end that absolutely ruins the album.
To me this seems like generic hip-hop. Nothing I haven't heard before and nothing I will search for in the future.
Hip hop for 12 year olds. Never understood this Kanye/JayZ nonsense stuff. Zero substance or anything to have any emotion toward
A couple of songs were ok and a few more had interesting beats but otherwise I didn't enjoy this much at all. Ending with a 12 minute outro is a bold move.
This sounds pretty dated, like a budget Kanye album. Lupe is also the weakest element here, the beats are generally more interesting than him. There are some interesting and creative moments, although I feel like the strings on the track are more bait for the easily impressed by sampling types than strong beat themselves. I'd say this is an above average 00s hip hop album. C
# Album Name: Food and Liquor # Artist: Lupe Fiasco # Rating: 2/5 # Comments: Not my thing. Sounds like distinctly average rap. Kick, push and Daydreamin were alright. # Top Tunes: Kick, push and Daydreamin # Would I listen to it again? Nah, just a couple of tracks.
Nothing great here
Sounds so poppy, pander-y, borderline childish. What little I've heard of his later (post-2018) output sounds much better.
Just a worse Kanye
2,5
Nope, another hip hop album that does absolutely nothing for me. This one maybe has a little more production value than most others I've heard on this list so far but it's still just bad music. Repetitive to the point of droning. Another album that sounds like a 12-year-old kid trying to sound cool for an older crowd. This record seemed to go on forever and after looking to see how much was left all I could think was "oh god I'm only halfway through". I thought it was funny that someone else complained about the last track being 12 minutes long, but I mean this is really just like one track that's an hour and 15 minutes. It's maybe not as bad as most of the other hip hop albums I've heard so far, but still only going to be like a 1.5/5. I suppose I'll round up because, although present, this album wasn't stereotypically laden with misogyny like most hip hop records.
A good rap album, in the guise of a Kanye album, no surprise he’s involved in this, but also a bit forgettable, not sure I’ll remember it come next week.
Never heard of him before and seeing that West and Jay-Z were involved lowered my expectations. Well, I wasn't wrong. Lyrics are mediocre at best, often trying too hard, and way too much self-importance. The music's not much better, I heard the same stuff too often. Overall a boring experience.
Trying hard with these new fangled hip-hop records but I guess what I’m with just isn’t “it” anymore. Great Kanye production but a dreadfully forgettable album, with the usual bloated run-time. Bang fucking average.
Lupe Fiasco's Food and Liquor [2006] Didn't like it all that much, seemed rather derivative to me. "Just Might Be OK" reminded me of Beyoncé's "Crazy In Love". "The Instrumental" reminded me of Linkin Park. For the most part he sounds like a protege of Jay-Z maybe with a little bit of Emenem's slower flow. I dug some of the music bed and samples, but to me this is pretty much down the line aughts hip hop to me. Again I'm not a rap guy so I ain't the person this album was aimed. With out counting the 12min of shout outs. I should because it's actually part of the album, but I'm not. There is a reason most people walk out of the movies during the credits. Im going with a (5.5) ★★½
Not my prefered type of hiphop. Not really bad, just boring. 2.5 stars
Kinda passable conscious hip hop palaver over some poppy and approachable but fairly dated 00s production. There’s a few punchy, catchy highlights early on like with Kick, Push but a lot of the beats afterwards are quite subpar and skippable and choice of sample for Daydreaming is really eye-rolling and overfamiliar. And at the end Lupe forgets what liner notes are for and gives 12 minutes of shout outs to everyone he can think of. A mega patchy 2 and half stars.
Byrjaði þokkalega en ég entist ekki plötuna í gegn. Varð fljótt frekar boring.
Didn’t really do anything for me.
A lot of uh...yeah...uh...nomsayin...lemme axe you. In general, just too much of everything, an overload of sounds beating you over the head. And a freakin' 12 minute outro with him shouting out every single person he's met in his entire life. On a positive note, he doesn't go for the violent thug life , disrespecting women, filthy lyrics like some of the other rap albums on this list. It's something.
Never got into this guy
2.3 - Yeah this wasn't for me. Nothing really grabbed me and not sure why it made the list honestly
Bang average, generic, noughties hip-hop by numbers. Not even the laziest Jay-Z feature can save it from the total anonymity it suffers. I defy anyone to claim there’s a single track on this album that stands out or remains with you.
Definitely not for me.
Just not my interest
Lupe is a Fiasco. Very overrated, the crescendo beats with classical music and jazzy trumpets I found vague amd not very good. Difffent rapping an a few cool songs but eeffinitively NOT a Album you can’t live without. Very repetitive overall. Great musical guests amd featurings.
I was intrigued by the sounds and concept of this album. I liked how it reminded me of early Kanye, but the more I listened, the more I was convinced that there’s few things for me here. I could listen to some of these songs like “I Gotcha” or “‘Kate Bush’” but the second half was a big yawn for me. I mean, I am not a rap connoisseur , but I don’t think this is one of the best Jay Z’s features and, did you listen to the last song? I had listened to self indulgent outros before, but this one is the bombastic, in the worst kind of way. Totally unnecessary.
It doesn’t quite gel. The production is solid. His flow is good and switched up a bit. His lyrics aren’t reprehensible. But it just kind of falls flat.
Did not need to hear Lupe fiascos food and liquor before I died
Not great.
Not really my thing. I'm not the biggest hip-hop fan (I was when I was 16 though), but I usually can appreciate some De La Soul, N.W.A or Wu-Tang. This wasn't my thing though. I guess Daydreamin' was cool, but that's more because of the sample. 2.4*
Well this project has confirmed that rap really isn't for me. I keep trying. I did like some of the backing and instrumentation (Just Might Be OK was really interesting) but I find the vocals get boring after a couple of tracks. Sorry.
While the production is still fun to listen to, the rapping seems a little outdated (despite Lupe hitting some catchy flows here and there) 2.5/5
It was good, but I did not like how he was just talking.
Just no. I couldn't find anything on this album that struck a vein with me, and I tried twice.
Not for me. It’s not bad, well produced, just not my kinda thang
It was okay. R&B is not really my thing, but I actually found it somewhat relaxing background music.
Not for me. Too young but not eternal or classic. Just young.
Some good songs on here. Not sure this should be on the list though.
Listened to this with my coworker, he seemed to like it. I didn’t.
It’s still rap. And while there are some moments of interest for me….A couple of songs that are something more than rap, since I don’t enjoy it, it’s hard to get wrapped up in lyrics. There are some interesting ones.
OK, well I'd not heard of this record before! I found it dull and boring with the same kind of vocal delivery throughout this excessively long album.
Not my jam, as you know…
A widely acclaimed album I’ve never been able to get into. It’s a little too long and I don’t think it’s quite as deep as it thinks it is.
Hip hop album, which I did not know in advance, sounds pleasant and has some nice songs, but is way too long and overall a bit too middle of the road / boring.
2000s rap artist doing the same thing that 90's artist did. It's fine but not very creative.
This seemed really long. The few good parts were overwhelmed by the sheer volume of sameness from the rest of the album.
Started off not liking the album much. Then there were a couple or three songs in the middle that I sort of liked and though, maybe this isn't that bad. Then it kept going. And going. It's not the worse album I've heard, but I will never put it on again, either.
nope.
I think we're entitled to not like something without not knowing why for sure. It should be rare, its important to know why you don't like something. That said there are exceptions and for me this is one of them.
Didn’t manage to listen to all of it. Average at best
Not for me
not my tempo.
It wasn't horrible but it wasn't great either.
A dull rap album with super annoying outro & interludes.
Ok for rap. Liked the backing music.
Not for me.
Didn't care for this. It would have been a 2.5, but the outro makes it a 2.0. 12 minutes of the same 10 second loop is a way to fill the rest of a CD, I suppose. Don't waste my time. 2/5
Didn't do much for me
Not bad, but didn't really excite me either. To be fair, it probably needed a more careful listen but apart from some good moments (Daydreamin') it didn't jump out and demand my attention.
I enjoyed a few songs but I wouldn’t listen to this album again.
2+
There's a proper 80's feel to match the album artwork. We're talking BIG production with some slick vocals. One hour and 12 minutes is WAY too long though. It passed a pleasant 45 minutes during some online admin. Then I bailed.
Not for me. It’s well made. Just too pop/kanye. Meh. Stopped after 3 or 4 songs.
One of the better hip hop albums I’ve had on this list, I gotta admit. But man, hip hip gets tiring so goddamn quickly. This had some cool moments but the songs just drag on and on because of the repetitive nature of the music.
r/iamverysmart
I didn't feel it.
not really for me, liked some of it
Only a 2 because there are probably worse rap albums out there
Nope
This is not my style of music... but I don't hate it. I don't understand why he needs to insert his moniker in every song though.
Pretty cringe
Better than expected. Still not my cup of tea. Good for what it is. Standout: Daydreaming 2.5
Interesting sounds and really boring lyrics. Yesterday's album was a British group from the '80s with exactly the same problem. Socially conscious but lacking any imagery or imagination. Pity, because he sounds OK. 4 tracks later. Attention starting to wander because it is hip-hop. I need songs, not talks. There is a lack of light and shade when someone keeps talking over a beat.
I don’t know. It was too lengthy for sure for such a similar sounding album throughout. At first I was intrigued but then it just kind of sounded similar to other artists and it got boring. It was interesting but 🤷♀️.
I don't know ... it's definitely ambitious, I'll give him that. Dense; there's a lot going on. I just don't *like* it, and I can't exactly pinpoint all of the reasons but the hefty share of the blame goes to his flow - there's an Eminem kind of vibe to his verses of whom i'm definitely not a fan at all. Monotone with jamming a lot of words in - might be a 90s hiphop thing/style? Weird - there's almost so much trying to go on, with too many words...the whole thing was just boring boring boring. I could see how or why people like it but i've been introduced to so much great hiphop through this 1001 and this one is just not my thing at all and was a struggle to finish. 3/10 2 stars.
Not for me, daydream is just a rip off, not so much a sample, as nicking daydream in blue. Not a fan of this sort of rap, yee-ah. Uh. Sounds quite creative though and I can see why fans of this genre are fans. I prefer it to anything Ye has done. Uh huh. Ye uh. Some of them have a cool groove like, Kick, push II. Also... It's too long. Not the most unpleasant listen, but not something I'll be reaching for again.
Some good songs on here, and good production, but it's not something I'd listen to again. Which is surprising, because I thought it would fall into the bucket of hip hop I usually like.
Prescindible
Nearly breaks into low-3 territory with some inspired beatmaking here and there, but the lyricism just drags it so far down. The gratuitous 12-minute one-loop ‘outro’ (if you can call it that) is perhaps the most egregiously bad and self-indulgent/narcissistic thing I’ve heard on the list so far.
Not Jeremy music, and that's OK
First thought it was boring then I got into it and the beat made it sort of nice background music and then it was boring again
Never heard of this guy but the cover looks annoying, omg retro things 'member them? Song titles mostly say "feat. xxx" and that's always a red flag. Guy sounds exactly like Jay Z in places. Music sounds like.... Jay Z. According to Wikipedia, it comes from the Kanyesphere. Goes for over an hour. Better than Kendrick Lamar to be fair, but still just more proof that "black" music genres ran out of ideas in the 90s. 2/5.
I used to think Lupe Fiasco wasn't that great, I still do but I used to too. On further reading I found out he was connected to Jay-z and Kanya West and now I know why it's all the same musically and I'm not re-listening enough to find any pearls of wisdom in the lyrics I doubt were there in the first place.
the kick push song is good, but the rest of it is like kanye, which translates to shit.
Nonce
A decent alt-hip hop pulled straight out of the mid '00s. The album cover full of that nostalgia, with an original Nintendo DS, what looks like an early blackberry phone, CDs and wearing some Chuck Taylor Converses brings me right back. With themes of poverty, Islam, terrorism, racism, and individuality, this is one of the great hip-hop albums of the 00s. Although the Outro track was probably a bit self aggrandising, over 12 minutes for what is essentially a thanks track - the album is definitely better off without it, and lowered the score I am giving this album. Best: Kick Push Worst: Outro 2.5 stars
I really like Kick, Push but not the rest.
Never listened to this prior. Not a bad album, just not my preferred cup of tea. Good beats, okay lyrics and flow.
POV cillian murphy watching adrien brody give the longest speech in oscar history
He sounds like J Cole’s little brother, but not in a good way. Four songs in and this sounds like any other album from the 2000s that’s better forgotten. “The Instrumental” sounds like a Lincoln Park song. Having finished it I can say there’s not anything special ab this and it was kind of corny, listened to some J Cole after for some good music
This was ok. His voice and flow are good, but the choruses are often cheesy or don’t fit the rest of the song. It felt like the producer was trying too hard. “Kick, push” doesn’t have that problem and is great; will listen to that again.
Not the worst rap in the world, but not great. I skipped the last half of the last song when it was just 12 minutes of thanking random people and things. 1/5
Bullshit
What the heck varför är alla hip-hop album så frikking långa, det gååååååår inte
unmemorable
Don’t like all the RnB bits. Plods along in places.
This restaurant sucks.
Didn't do anything for me.
1 - not for me
I’m in the minority with this album. I just want it all to stop!
0.8/5 Just not my style of music. I found it more enjoyable than the Wu-Tang Clan and public enemy but I still couldn't listen to this again.

Americano rubbish full of foul language in an attempt to sound hip and cover over the cracks in the poor production. What a wanker. Brainless American shit, like all American music is.
I didn’t listen too much but it hurt my ears. This album just is not music, art, or anything good. 0/5.
HipHop? Nö!
I've never liked hip-hop. The lyrics are just nonsense and sound like they were written in about 10 minutes. There's no real talent here
Boring sounding. Listening to this was actually torture and I think doing anything else would of been more enjoyable. 1 star.
Ihan jonninjoutavaa paskaa. Täysi fiasko!
boring
Even after many attempts, I still can't get into hip-hop. It's not music. 1/5
Yawn
Lupe = fiasco
bad
Not my thing
ok - this is not for me. I can't get on with rap tbh. This could be very good rap, but I couldn't say. I tried, but this just leaves me cold. Skip
In all fairness there were moments on this record that were marginally enjoyable - particularly the opening track (Real) but I was tired and wanting it over halfway through. Boring, common, pedestrian, uninspired, etc. are the words I would use to describe...2000's rap music lacking a clever hook or lyrics (Kendrick wop bop beep bang bong) just isn't my thing. Can we also stop with the gratuitous overuse of the 'n' word? Unclear why this made album made the list - no desire to ever listen again. 1/5
K-Mart Kanye
A fiasco would have been more interesting, instead this is an overlong, uninteresting 2000's rap album. I'm gonna give it a 1. Might be slightly harsh, but I didn't connect with it at all.
Neither fish nor foul
Day645 - fiasco is right
Nope, I hate that crap
mmmah
Hip-Hop, but not just any Hip-Hop, this is Conscious Hip-Hop! However, conscious or unconscious, it's still Hip-Hop and I'm not a fan.
Didn't listen, not for me.
Super toothless and generic modern rap. This album is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long. 72 minutes...
You can tell how strong the American bias of this list is due to this album making the list, despite Lupe Fiasco's considerable efforts. Surely there were better albums to be found from South America, Africa, Asia, Australia or even Europe (though that gets more than its fair share due to Great Britain being on the list).
Lupe Shitasco. That Outro was torture.
* Rap is not my thing
Don’t like rap/hip hop
Nothing kills an album more than starting off with generic hackneyed poetry with the same cadence and quality you get from a college poetry slam competition.
Vilket jävla fiasko av Fiasco.
Does nothing for me at all.
So much hip hop looks and sounds alike.
formulaic, and obvious
Extremely weak pop rap. 1 star.
Another 70 minute rap album and I couldn't handle this one. I have limited time so once I knew if I liked (mainly disliked) a track, I just skipped it halfway through. It's rap music. I very highly doubt it was going to kick into gear with a time signature change, a guitar solo or cool breakdown. The only things I can pick out that I enjoyed are the track with Jay-Z called 'Pressure' which had a cool beat and the second track 'Real' which had an electric guitar riff as a beat that I really enjoyed. Other than that, there's literally nothing I would come back to, sorry.
Hip-Hop. Noping out .... 1/5
Han borde hålla sig till Street Fighter.
This is pop rap trash
No va
Not for me
Hip hop its a american dog shit only relevant to americans, for the rest of the world this is rubbish!
No. Sampled it. Good production, very busy sounding, lyrically empty- lots of bragging. Not interested.
Never heard of him and I’m ok with that.
Did not care for this at all. Tiring, and wanted it to end after every song.
God damn I forgot how much I hated Lupe Fiasco in high school. It’s somehow maximalist and low effort at the same time.
Nah
Sorry, but... No. Just so generic.
I’m not listening to this
Meh
Didn't listen to the whole album which sums it up for me really.
This is seriously boring, 1 star or F for me.
Not my cup of tea at all
that was a FiASSco
Ughhhhhh. Even the album cover brings to mind what I believe to be the second worst type of rap. Spacey mid-2000’s rap that’s all melodic and sensitive makes me want to jump off a bridge. How about 72 minutes of it???? I really don’t know how this will sound, but in my imagination, I’m going to be miserable for the next hour or so. Let this fiasco begin. Whelp. This blows. That beat is one of the most abhorrent things I’ve ever heard. Bombastic and gross with a weak delivery. This is so incredibly dull. It’s like being rocked to sleep by a demonic horror. You feel weary and fatigued, but you know if you concede to the sleep you will be gnashed by the millions of jagged teeth in the cosmic maw of an unknown entity. Moving swiftly on. UGH. Stop saying “Food & Liquor.” It’s not the cool title you think it is. Again, this type of beat is horrendous. It’s so tinny and shallow. It focuses on the horns or whatever those are rather than, you know, the rhythm? Anyway. This mixed with the lyrical miracle rap and the lame ass R & B vocals tops off another stinker. Way to go Lupe. This had to be in Fight Night Champion. I can at least hear the drums on this one. Not the worst track so far, but it’s still the garbage I hate. Everything is just so squeaky clean and therefore extremely dull. The best song so far meaning the least painful instrument of torture. That accordion stab is boneheaded. Ooh is this that classic Owl City Evanescence crossover. 80% power 50% pain and 100% reason to remember the name. Who cares. This song actually made me laugh. 1000% pain and a 1000000% reason to skip it. Whoa. We’re getting meaningful. Every album like this has a song like this and they all suck. It’s ham-fisted sentimentality. It hasn’t been said in a while, but these lyrics stink. I’ve jotted down more interesting ideas in my notes app at the age of 17. That is not a compliment to me, but an insult of the highest order to Lupe, if that is his real name. He’s got such a boring delivery good god. This is a guy you see post videos on Christian TikTok or something. The sample is not the worst thing I’ve ever heard, but the female vocals over it are so cheesy, it ruins it. I get that he’s making fun of other rappers, but man, you should be making fun of guys whose main musical influence is Common (you). He swore!! Whoa guys. Lupe is letting his hair down. He wouldn’t say “bitch” when listening to Too Short? My dude. Don’t say that. Yes, misogyny is bad, full stop. Don’t even invoke the name of these people though. Too Short is so tongue in cheek. Anyway. I’m not going to get into an argument about lyrical themes with a guy who says “what constitutes a prostitute.” He’s just doing lyrical miracle spherical, imperial stuff. Oh buddy. The eagle screech and Jay-Z. Guess which one of those things I don’t like. It’s Jay-Z. Another key holder of the death of hip-hop from 2000-infinity. At least we have some saviours now. Lupe Fiasco is so lame and Jay-Z is dumb as hell. Is there even a kick drum in this? It’s so light. The production stinks. Big Matthew Santos feature for all you Mariachi heads out there. Or fans of white guys from Minneapolis who sing Spanish music. Whichever. I prefer “American Terroristt” by RxKNephew. At least there I learned something. The Emperor’s Soundtrack is the song I would play to detail every aspect of this genre that I absolutely despise. SOFT vocal delivery, boring beat, bright production. If it could be a single that plays over the Fast and Furious end credits, it’s probably not good. More overused tropes from spiritual rap. It’s just noise at this point. And not in a subversive or interesting way. Listen to “Black on Both Sides” and get what this trying to be with actual life delivered by a capable performer. I’m glad he’s reading names so we know who to hold accountable for this stinker. I’m looking at you DJ Chop. This is 12 minutes??? Lupe Fiasco mentions every person who has ever lived. Shoutout to HypeBeast.com. I would rather hear my name come up in a wartime draft than be credited on this piece of trash. You know this bad boy was the soundtrack to some (white) nerd’s first week in New York and now I have to suffer, almost 20 years in the future. This is what Kanye West sounds like to me, and that is the worst insult I can think of. Fitting that the album cover features a millennial college student surrounded by relics of the early 2000’s while in the infinity of space. This album does sound like it’s being played from inside a space shuttle while my spacesuit ruptures, causing my frozen organs to seep out of my adrift body. Or whatever happens in space. “Food & Liquor” is soft, non-confrontational, and not nearly as meaningful as it purports itself to be. This was more than a fiasco, it was a full-blown disaster. Like a spaceship explosion. Silent, yet incredibly destructive. Somebody save the DS. My NintenDogs need kibble. 0.5 HIGHLIGHTS: WHOOSH
I have zero interest in listening to hip hop and sampling this did nothing to change my mind.
Sounds like glam hip hop. Like Lin-Manuel Miranda created a rap persona. Hot garbage
this was not good.
Wow. Holy cr… already looking at the cover art work (or lack of it), makes me wanna throw up..
Utter rubbish
Not for me
Hot garbage. Why is this even on the list? Pretty bland and unoriginal hiphop.
Really really really boring. Kick skate song was fun though.
poop fiasco more like
Didn't like this at all.
Ok, this was not as bad as I feared when it started. Partly ok, some nice samples, etc. Still it's a 1 for me, way too little to give a 2.
Ok, but nothing special here.
Not interested in anything on the menu.
p908. 2006. 1 star. Hip-hop/rap with strings and brass sections. Well done of its kind, but wrong audience. Will not listen to it again.
Sorry, didn't make it past the 3rd song. It's a no for me.
Juste non
Wow, this is a real pile of crap alright. How did it get made???
3.73 rym no
buh
This is very underwhelming. Don't really care for this.
Rap&Hip-Hop is definitvely not my taste.
I'm just not into this, at all
Really can't tolerate
Bufff....
Bugs me so much when the rapper seems to not be aware of the music or rhythm of the song...
i really really dislike rap
Rap has it’s place in the music world, but…
I find this type of music unlistenable. Next
Not my style at all.
Mais um de rap.
Die Platte sollte 'Kanye rap and soundalike fiasco' heißen. Unnötig.
Not my jam
I have nothing to say
I just can't stand to listen to this, it's awful. I don't like rap and the more I hear of it, the less I like it.
Most of this album is really boring, especially the introduction. Some of the beats are okay, but really, who would buy this album?
It's OK to judge this album by its cover. Then you even have to bother listening.
I simply don't enjoy rap in general and Lupe Fiasco is no exception. I managed to listen to about half of the songs halfway through and the one and only thing I enjoyed were the samples on Daydreamin'. That just isn't enough.
All of the worst moments of my life summed up in a mix of shocking beats and lyrics. A disaster that leaps into your face as fast as a gang of nazis diving into your mum's gaping pussy.
