Reviews (page 6 of 7)
Sounds like a generic version of all the british new wave we've had on this list.
Too much screaming
Better than expected but probably forgot it by tomorrow.
Not much else here, apart from that obvious song. It picked up towards the end with some decent sax solos, otherwise disappointing.
Not quite "don't go to the ambulance!" but a slice of punk adjacent tunes that feel so of their time. Results in a very one-note album, and there's only so much misery tinged sprechgesang I can cope with, not aided by a some less than exciting guitars. It just....is.
1 of a million generic sounding British gobbledygook
Some of the most mingy, diseased vocals ever put to record. First track is particularly horrid and has the aural effect of Johnny Rotten’s rotting cadaver uncle groaning along to bagpipes. Next track Pretty In Pink is kinda classic but would be made better if sung by anybody else. There is a glint of good stuff elsewhere here but it is all hamstrung by the rough rough rough vocals. Album would ultimately be better if it was Mute Mute Mute.
I still don't really like British New Wave, but there's elements of this where the singer has more of a punk edge and the band veers toward ska and I like those moments better. I don't really want to listen to this again though.
Run of the mill post punk record of the early 80s. Does not bring anything new or unique to the table that other artists haven't done better. Really don't see the point on this being an album one has to listen to.
Soft rock, typ. Ganska chill
Mostly decent, just not for me. Felt sort of forgettable, and as I've said before, just not a big fan of the new-wave-David-Bowie thing. I don't know. I guess I liked it more than I thought I would? Fave songs: - Dumb Waiters - I Wanna Sleep With You - Into You Like a Train - All of This and Nothing
Ei herättänyt mitään ⭐️⭐️
Melko mitäänsanomatonta mättöä. Miksaus ei kyllä ollut mikään paras.
Indeed, my dearest friend Watson, that was a phenomenally boring album, but cheer up, my old chap, we got through it.
Lazy sounding vocals, weak production, dull songwriting, this album has it all! 1.5*
The instrumentation and general mix is pretty but the structure songwriting and vocals are putting the entire thing off. really struggling with the lyrics and vocals on this one
Didn't connect with it at all
music is fine but I remain unable to get behind this type of male singing. it's too much and I don't like it
# 520 : Talk Talk Talk A two line bio, generic album art for the period and the first few reviews don't give me much confidence in this LP. Alas it lived up to its hype. Another album which makes you reconsider whether there are as many as 1,001 albums you MUST listen to before you die. If I have to pick a track : Pretty In Pink Listened : 09/07/2025
Probably a 2 don't remember this one.
I've heard some singles from this group. "Pretty in Pink" among those. 80's British post-punk/new wave has a distinct sound, especially when the lead vocalist is a nasally British man. Many can probably take or leave the saxophone too, which definitely puts this record at a specific point in time (the early 80's). About 40 min of similar sounding new wave at the end of the day. The group's best song is from their next album anyway.
Not my favourite talk talk album non of the tunes particularly stood out on a first listen. Nothing particularly offensive about it either
Sometimes 80s music sounds just too 80s. That’s the case often on Talk Talk Talk. The saxophone isn’t really a positive. The album is fine, nothing special. Caught in between of artsy post punk and poppy post punk. Not intense enough, not catchy enough 5.5/10
Actively waiting for this to end. Love My Way is such a classic and I don’t mind some new wave so I was hoping for a really strong album but this disappointed me. Weak vocals, uninteresting music.
pretty tedious to get through
I hate british people
boring
Pretty in Pink
Not really a fan of this, the vocals are pretty bad and it's kinda dated 80s sounding with all the saxophones. Didn't really chime with me
I did not care for this.
blah. boring sounding the same 80's
Vreemde vocal style, pretty cool. Beste: No Tears / She Is Mine / Pretty In Pink Minste: So Run Down Albumhoes: Love it! 5/5
Just was not into this, idk why
This album sounds so similar to other albums from the same era/wave that I kept getting into songs and in my head thinking "oh I know this one". In fact, I did not know this one. And that speaks enough to me that this album does not stand out in the least. Just listen to this Pistols and you'll enjoy it more.
Occasionally good guitars, but between the horns and one of the worse offenders of the early 80s British new wave vocals, I've got nothing more to talk about.
The music is a borderline 3 I tell myself. And then every time the vocals come in, I want to skip the track, which I did often.
New wave is cool in doses. This one drones on and kinda sounds like a song that never ends.
Not psyched, not Fur me.
Not bad, but got old after a few songs.
Another British band from the 80s talk singing at me. A harsh and lame listen.
They don't sound like I expected them to. Not a fan either way.
A high two, because i really hate these vocals. Musically not bad. Favorites - pretty in pink; so run down. Would not listen again.
Has a lot of the elements of music I like, but I found this one pretty dry and with no real standouts.
Not a fan. Never liked his voice.
Pretty basic whatever this genre is. Not a huge fan
More post-punk that just fails to move the needle for me. I think the fact this album peaked at 89 on the Billboard top 200 in '81 is proof that there are at least 88 more deserving albums to be on this list than this one... But sure, I absolutely MUST hear it before I die, I guess. And now I have. It's not as bad as other post-punk albums on this list though so 2 stars
Helt grei britisk nyveiv. Alle sangene begynner etter hvert å høres helt prikk like ut. Ganske kjedelig.
Well, they're probably considered to be post-punk, and not my cup of tea to be honest. and for the most part they lived up to this. The one outstanding track was of course Pretty in Pink. Quite a bit more poppy, and I believe it was used in some film or other (can't remember the name, and never seen it) That's about All I can Say for this. 2
This was entirely uninteresting to me.
Is that an electric saxophone in the first song? That sound is horrific - maybe it'd be better if it wasn't triple tracked with another version of itself slightly out of tune. If I heard that in the middle of the album I probably would've turned it off right there. It feels like that sort of out of tune and out of time feel permeates through the rest of this, unfortunately. It's hard to listen to; like you have to go fishing through the noise to hear the song in between the hooks. Even "Pretty In Pink" is subject to it, though I feel their producer must've told them to tone it down a bit for that one. Really didn't enjoy this.
I've been enjoying our 1980's English bands for the most part, but this doesn't make the cut. Even the wikipedia entry doesn't have much to go on it. Why is this significant?
Not my jam. I tried to give it a 2nd listen and it just became irritating.
never liked the Psychedelic Furs, though I've wanted to and I've tried to ; theirs for me is a too studied cool that I think is a London post punk thing. too artistic, too, yes, studied. But so are talking heads I suspect so are Blondie, so are Wire. But their way I don't love and find it grates.and so, no, sorry, wish it werent so. nah
Better than I expected but i still dislike the song Pretty in Pink and not a fan of his voice
Absolutely fine faceless new wave. The fact that it sounds fine to my ears probably says that it is not good punk
better than the previous two albums but not by much
Pretty in pink hold up the whole album.
Not enjoyable, hard to listen to honestly
Like the energy and the raw nerve, but then again there is a constant noisy sound throughout the album, which I find annoying when listening to the album in its entirety…
how is "love my way" the perfect balance of fun and scary sleaze and this is SO dull? ugh
Mid
I don't know what the difference between "noisy" (something I like in music) and "muddy" (something I don't like in music) is to my ears. The two self-defined elements are close in my mind... but this album is muddy. The singing just drones on, and all the instruments are just kinda simmered in an stew devoid of salt. The sonic equivalent of what I imagine food in the UK taste like.
Meh
I was unimpressed.
I've got to the point where I feel this type of music is way over represented on the list. I'm indifferent to it, maybe sooner or later I'll find an album that I like.
The run is over. After 2 albums haha. Back to normal, middling new wave, service.
Cringe
Starts with the cacophonous Dumb Waiters, then does a complete 180 with the surprisingly poppy Pretty in Pink, what follows after that is more similar to the opener. Mostly forgettable, but occasionally interesting, not something I’d come back to again. I think this band is vastly overrated, I view them as a borderline one hit wonder.
Don’t like this. It’s dumb.
new age same same ...can hear the popier side of this album.
"I wanna sleep with you" has a really nice punk-ish feel and some nice riffs. the other tracks aren't really memorable.
Meh. Pretty in pink is well known and OK, but the rest of this didn't really stand out.
insufferable British New Wave
Again, thanks to this list I heard portions of this album before, to my dismay. I don't like the singer's voice, it unnerves me.
Weird sound
Pretty boring with some interesting moments
Eh, it's not a bad album, it has some moments. But feels like it's a bit too self-indulgent. You can just randomly start skipping the sections in the song, and everything you'll land on will feel the same-ish, part of the same song, with the same performance.
2.1
did listen wtf wtf wtf no remember
Saved Prior: Pretty in Pink Off Rip: She Is Mine Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Mostly just 10 variations on the same song. Pretty in Pink is the best of those variations, but even that is my least favorite of their hits. Cleansed my palette with the quintuple queue of Heartbreak Beat, Heaven, Love My Way, The Ghost in You, and their 2020 single You'll Be Mine which are all better than anything on this album.
Proto-Britpop sung in an annoying flat tone.
Boring
eh
All of these songs sound the same and are a bit aggressive toward women. Not a fan.
More new wave that I don't hate but don't find that interesting either.
Sounds like so many other bands of the time, and every song sounds very much the same.
This album isn't bad, but its only got one outstanding track and I wouldn't recommend the album to anyone. 2/5
I did not enjoy this album
just eh. not a bad alt 80's record but something about it just is bleh.
Oh boy, more middling new wave nothingness. Nothing to like here, sounds like new wave.
I forgot where I was when I had to stop listening to this the other day. Couldn’t figure it out because they all sound the same.
It’s mid, just plain mid. Dude sounds like he’s on the verge of being blackout drunk. Horrid vocals. The only reason this isn’t getting a 1 is cause the instruments HARD CARRIED this album.
If you want to listen to Pretty In Pink about eight times on this ten song record, then you'll love this! However, I'm more of a Love My Way fan.
I really only knew the band from their big Hollywood soundtrack hit and, as far as I had given them any thought at all, I probably figured they were American. Pretty In Pink is still a banger but the rest is more of a slog. It throws all the appropriate new wave shapes but the actual songs are quite leaden and the guy's voice doesn't particularly help in that respect. Can't see myself returning to this one any time soon.
Started strong but fell off.
Iets te psychedelic voor me
The Psychedelic Furs brought strong seventies Bowie vibes--the vocals in particular but the music, too. I hate to rag on artists that seem to only mimic another artist's sound, but I didn't hear too much originality. Despite this, this album was very far from a miserable listen. The best part of Talk Talk Talk was absolutely the saxophone! The songs ran together too much, but there's something to be said about every song on an album contributing to the flow and the same vibe.
Otros discos de 1981: SIUOXSIE AND THE BANSHEES- Juju, ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN - Heaven up here, THE SOUND - From the lions mouth, MINK DEVILLE - Coup de grace, THE CRAMPS - Psychedelic jungle, JOY DIVISION - Still, THE CURE - Faith, THE ROLLING STONES - Tattoo you, THE HUMAN LEAGUE- Dare, ORCHESTRAL MANIOEUVRES IN THE DARK-Architecture & Morality, ENO & BYRNE-My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucía- Friday Night in San Francisco, PRINCE- Controversy, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts- I Love Rock 'n' Roll, Franco Battiato- La voce del padrone... incluso: Face Value de Phil Collins o ABACAB de Genesis. Debuts de Stary Cats, Fleshtones, Barracudas, The Church, The Gun Club, Soft Cell, New Order, Duran Duran, Heaven 17, Depeche Mode, Eurythmics, Tom Tom Club...
first three tracks come with a bang, but it all goes downhill from there. Favorite track: Dumb Waiters other picks: pretty in pink, I wanna sleep with you
Started off with high expectations that wound down to meh!
mid
A nice bit of British post-punk rock. I enjoyed. I'd listen to them again. Not earth shaking stuff, just good. 2 stars but not quite there. Just cos the quality is not there, but the listenability is.
A little too british-y for me
Listened Before? N So, I expected to like this album a lot more than I did, especially considering how much I like most new wave stuff. I love Pretty in Pink, and I was familiar with it well in advance. The rest of it, though... I just didn't enjoy much. She Is Mine is okay, but most of the other songs just drone and some of them are WAY too long. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Pretty in Pink
meh. I can see why people may like it but for me there’s not many songs on here I would willingly choose to come back to. “Pretty In Pink” was awesome but the rest, meh. Some decent. Low 2 for me
None of this was interesting enough for me to notice it while doing other things
listened last week and have already completely forgotten this album. 2.5
Eughhh I honestly didn’t love the immediate aggression of british pop and then that’s all I could think of from then on. The music seemed good enough but the vocals seemed overwhelming.
I think the out of tune opening track really sets the tone for the whole album - it's kind of good and also annoying
This album was really annoying, I really with that they would stop talk talk talking.
A glimpse of what’s to come in 1980, but the hooks just aren’t there.
very droning vocals and music
Dumb Waiters is a strange one, but the off-kilterness seems too overt not to be deliberate. Wish the bass was punched up in the mix as it is pretty buried and makes this feel really flat. Maybe New Wave isn't for me, but I'm pretty meh on that whole experience. Like it is objectively fine music, but nothing that moved the needle for me. Hard to imagine getting pumped up to see this live.
Perhaps I need more Psychedelics to really appreciate Furs. This was a brutal slog for me. I had heard “Pretty in Pink” many times and tolerated it, maybe even enjoyed it. But this. Ugh. The literalness of the laughter during “She is Mine” when he says “You just have to laugh at it all” was too much for me. Mercifully it was the last song.
This is another one of those albums that I seem to be getting at the moment that is one great song and the rest of the album is 'meh'. Disappointing.
A couple of cool sax solos, but couldn't get into it. It's not bad, but I'm not interested in giving a 3rd listen. 2/5.
ill have to raise my standards
Meh
Meh
Just ok. I don’t think I was in the right mood for this. On another day I might’ve given it a higher score.
too dated for me. I wasn't a fan then.
If you can't sing, you shouldn't sing. Not for commercial gain at least. Very lucky to not get a 1 here.
Couple of nice bits and bobs in here, as 2.5 as it gets
This guy really loves David Bowie doesn't he? In fact he really loves one particular bit of phrasing of David Bowie that he just does over and over. A nice wee tribute but grating.
This is okay. Nothing special as far as I can tell though.
1,2,3,4 repeat. I think the lead singer's voice was wanted with uninspired music.
🎧Decent, not great. Richard Butler’s vocals kind of annoying at times. I like No Tears.
Like many 80's albums, it's somebody's jam. Pretty in Pink is the defining track. The rest blend into sameness for me.
Not for me. I don’t like the singer. Some cool dark new wave stylistic instrumental parts but I didn’t really enjoy it.
Bleh. Hard to listen to. Pretentious.
Awful, toneless singing with the surface level lyrics to match. The brass work is one of the few reasons to give this a spin. Listened to: on a train in New England. Favorite tracks: it Goes On, All of This and Nothing
Agree with the monotone voice. Grating Love Pretty in Pink
Ick I appreciate their very obvious influence on Brit Pop, but this was a bit to raw / unpolished for me
Mediocre music to play in that one store in the mall that sells "punk" paraphernalia, sandwiched conveniently between H&M and The Gap.
Regular album, it did not click with me.
Mmmmm nah new wave not for me
Alkuun jaksoi fiilistellä mukana ja loppua kohden alkoi toistamaan itseään, sekä uk-rockin vakiomuotin soundi laulajalla tökkimään.
Meh
I really wanted to like this one, but that just wasn't the case.
Vocals are so, I don’t know, monotone or monotonous? Or both. Couple songs go a long way with me.
Is no one going to talk about how Pretty in Pink sounds so pretty because it's just the hook from Born to Run without the melody? I'm certain it was a case of parallel thinking but I can't unhear it. All in all, Talk Talk Talk is the definition of good, not great. Dumb Waitress, So Run Down, and She Is Mine are all good tracks. Pretty in Pink would also be a highlight if not for the Born to Run ear worm. But compared to their contemporaries I don't see what makes them special enough to warrant an inclusion on this list. We're talking about the same era of The Talking Heads, The Smiths, Joy Division, Blondie, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure, The Birthday Party, The Jam, The B-52's, and Television. Fur are a good genre band, but nothing special here. Post punk is a genre I love and I'd probably go see this band live if I had the opportunity, but as a selection on the 1001 Albums to Listen to before I Die, this one falls way short.
Not bad, but completely forgettable
Shitty in Pink
This is definitely what the druggo guy from The Breakfast Club listens to
Normally a big fan of 80s new wave so was excited to check this out but it just didn't do it for me at all
A nice blend of punk into the classic 80's style. Nothing particularly grabbed my attention but not a bad listen. 2.5/5
This album was very early 80s pop....not the kind of album I would choose to listen to again. Best song: She is Mine
I am a big fan of post punk/new wave/modern rock. Having said that, aside from "Pretty in Pink" and "All of This and Nothing", the Steve Lillywhite produced Talk Talk Talk is a long dirge of samey sounding punk/post punk that has not yet quite made the turn toward the more interesting sound of modern rock. They also have not stopped mimicking the sound of The Sex Pistols and truly created their own sound yet. The album that the algorithm pointed to was the remastered album re-released in 2002 instead of the original. This is relevant, because not only is it remastered, it is also longer because it includes all kinds of bonus tracks, and for some weird reason that re-ordered all the tracks which I don't think suits this album at all. I recommend listening to the 10 track original that was released in 1981 and is available on most streaming services. Alas, there is not much memorable here. Talk Talk Talk didn't even make my top 50 for albums released in 1981, much less make my top 1001 for all time. Personally I feel their best album are to come over the rest of the 1980s, even though others criticize them for being over-produced. I don't buy this BS that somehow less production makes an album more sincere or authentic.
yet another instance of the first song or two being solid and then the rest being a bunch of filler
Yet another British post punk/alt band from the 80s. I’m torn here because there’s nothing bad (except the first song and its out of tune main riff), there’s just nothing here I really want to hear again. Best song: She is Mine
I liked Pretty In Pink but no other songs really stood out. It all felt kind of the same.
The more I listened to this the less I liked it. Kinda hate it now, actually. But it did start to give me Stone Roses vibes at some points, so there’s that…
So emo
Yeah, no.
Very samey. Quite fun but songs blurred into one
Sounds muted when it feels, maybe should raise the volume
I like the sound, though it gets a bit repetitive. Frontman seems to have swallowed an asphalt truck 👀
Furs just never did anything for me, in one ear out the other, a xerox of better bands
Maybe you caught me on a bad day, but not a fan. Some of these tracks sound like a table saw, but without any of the charm. I've made better sounding demo tapes on a tascam 4 track recorder. No.
I enjoyed the live instruments and some tunes are catchy, but I really don't like these 80's saxophones.
I’m not a big fan of this kind of music and with these guys, singing in particular doesn’t appeal to me nor the subjects of the songs. The music itself isn’t bad. Listens: 2 Fave Track: All Of This And Nothing
Not a huge fan of this unfortunately.
Hmm
Extremely British, but not in an endearing way
Having their song Pretty in Pink featured in the movie Pretty in Pink does not render this album worth listening to. There's something about The Psychedelic Furs' sound that gives me a headache.
This is underground rock with slight punk influences. But it doesn't move me. For an album on this list, this is a litte underwhelming. 2/5
Nothing really special. It seems indicative of early 80s English rock. I was left, meh.
Not for me
Ei kauheen hääppöstä. Vähän punk henkistä brittipoppia. Laulajan ääni rasitti. All of this and nothing EHKÄ ok
Not bad for a punkish album. Nothing stands out as too special or ear-catching.
Just not my era
I remember this band from back in the day and back then I thought they were OK but I wasn’t a huge fan. Not much has changed over the years.
The Furs certainly were one of the better post-punk, new wavey groups in the early 80s and this album features probably their biggest single. Richard Butler actually has a great voice for this genre, but like others have noted most of the album after the first two songs sounds very samey.
Its alright but nothing special that had my flabbergasted. Solid Record but ive listened to so much english rock music in general that it needs more to flash me. I wish they actually did psychedelic music on this record.
Neither psychedelic nor furry
I was looking forward to this one because I love the song Pretty in Pink, but I was disappointed to find the remainder of this album a cacophony of noise. Too much dissonance in the sound, too much faux punk attitude. I just… I feel letdown I guess. Thought this would be my jams, but alas, it is not.
ok. The Brit pop sound doesn't resonate with me entirely.
Execution was fine instrumentally and there were a few Melodie’s that caught my ear, but nothing stuck with me after the fact. Not bland per se, but not exactly memorable either.
Not my favorite new wave album artist boring album
Nothing more than fine. Grating voice and ok 80s pop.
The instrumentals were really good and captured the elements of what people like about 80's music. However the singer's voice was hard to listen to.
It had moments. I liked the first song. It could maybe grow on me. But alas, it will never have the chance
This list is plagued with 80s British post-punk/new wave records. This one was no different. The singer's voice got on my nerves as the record went on, which is typical of these records. I did like the instrumentals.
not much to say. se rajoute a la liste d'albums qui ne me fait aucun effet 5/10
2.5
I can tell from the album art alone that this is going to be british pop/punk. According to their wiki this album is actually pretty highly rated.... so far it sounds pretty standard. Has a much brighter and happier undertone than I was expecting, so far I don't dislike it but it's kind of disappearing into the background. These songs seem a bit too long for what they are, and it really doesn't envelope the feel of british punk.
This is way heavier than I expected based on the band name and cover art. I really like the aggression of the vocals and the weirdness of the instrumental. As the record went on, the vocals started to wear me down. I also didn't find the songwriting very memorable.
Vocals and monotonous songwriting ruin it for me
For a band named Psychedelic Furs I was hoping for something a little more... colorful? Imagine Green Day meets Smashing Pumpkins. Vocals were uninspiring, guitar was bland (only time it stuck out was on It Goes On), and the tempo stayed more or less the same front to back. Listening to this album was like eating a plate of unseasoned chicken and rice. I like chicken and I like rice. But I need some more flavor in there to make it interesting.
New wave, postpunk, psychedelisk rock - det okay
I liked the songs mostly but didn’t get on with his voice. He sounds like an American doing a bad English accent but he’s English.
Meh
"Pretty In Pink": it starts with an interesting verse, with some nice instrumentation supprporting a raucous vocal performance. Then a promising pre-chorus surges. And then... No chorus. Then nothing much, really. We're back to the verse, played by a band that basically goes through the motions. The song cycles on itself--a little hypnotic, but not enough to justify all the repetitive patterns in it. Being a single, "Pretty In Pink" is supposedly one of the most striking tracks on the album. But to be honest, it's a bit of a letdown, as is everything else in this record--especially compared to other post-punk acts around 1981 (Wire, Gang Of Four, Siouxsie And the Banshees, Joy Division, The Cure, Magazine...). As for the supposedly "psychedelic" and proto-punk influences on this LP, they might give some whiffs of originality to the whole thing, but sadly, *Talk Talk Talk*' compositions are nothing compared to the ones of, say, The Soft Boys' *Underwater Moonlight*. Now here was a record owing to prepunk times that could leave an imprint on your mind from the very first listen. Pretty sure that ten listens in, it's still impossible to hum or whistle Psychedelic Furs songs in your shower. Not that all "essential" albums need to be whistled or hummed. Post-punk / new wave was not *all* about that, considering you could relate The Psychedelic Furs to that early eighties subgenre. But if you can't hum or whistle a band's output, what you need from them is some real groove (Gang Of Four), some cinematic atmosphere (Wire, The Cure), some real tension (Joy Division), or some strong gothic flavours coupled with truly memorable harmonies and a vocal performance for the ages (Siouxsie And The Banshees). And *Talk Talk Talk* has none of those. To put it in a nutshell, the music in this album is not inherently bad. It's just that it's not "essential". 2/5 for the purposes of this list, translating to a 7/10 grade for more general purposes. Next, please... Number of albums left to review: 423 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 266 Albums from the list might* include in mine later on: 141 Albums from the list I won't include in mine (many others are more essential to me): 176 (including this one)
Yeah. Nah.
certainly music of a certian era; "of a time' - like opening a box of cassettes from those awkward teens, some familiar stuff a bit whinier , and bleeker, than I remembered. whistful but kind of melancholic, so bye furs! definitely music with which to mix psychadelics if wanting st and setting to be conducive. pull up, pull up!
4/10
Meh
Post-Punk meh
Unremarkable 🤷🏻♂️
I thought this was weak. A few good songs though.
A little more guitar heavy than I would have thought from an 80s album like this. Still not my favorite though. Kind of boring.
Actually loved the first song, but it all went a bit meh from there. Can hear Joy Division on some tracks.
2.5
Well, that was 80's British post-punk album number 126 on this list. At least that's what it feels like. Nothing new, nothing interesting, next.
Checked multiple times to see if album was ending soon
Not for me
I don’t know if I hated this or just really disliked it. It’s very distinctly the eighties music that I never liked.
No thanks. 1

More of that terrible droning crap that I hate.
Relatively uninspiring 80s indie-punk rock. The singer isn’t the easiest to listen to. 1
A cacophony of noise throughout the album. There didn't seem to be any quieter sections. I also didn't like his voice. It was a bit too gruff for me.

No thank you. Not a fan of British
2/10 Pretty forgettable
pastiche mode.
Rubbish
More english rock that doesn't inspire me at all
yeahhh no, those vocals are too talky and the music doesnt make up for it enough
wish.com David Bowie, boring af
This is really not my style of listening at all. I really tried with this one and struggled at any moment in the album to find enjoyment. It’s a miss …
I think this is technically post-punk but it retains much of what I don't like about the punk genre. Repetitive drum beats with little variation and what I describe to myself as the 'bored punk singing style'. Flat vocals with little tonal variation sung in a way that sounds like the singer is bored with life and just wants to get the sone over.
Distractingly British s n o o z e f e s t. Lead singer sounds like Fred Armisen trying to do a fake New Wave song on SNL. You'd get the semblance of a cool sound with the saxophone here and there and then the lead singer would come right back to smack you in the face with SOME PIE AND MASH!!!
whenever my siblings and I would howl "singing" in an awful kid concert growing up, my mom would always say "at least they're better than that Psychedelic Furs guy, he's the worst ever" She was right.
felt very boring, not bad per se, but I didn't want to listen to any of the songs again
would be a 3 if the lead singer wasn't so shit, it's amazing how his voice is more aggravating than all the ragebait scream-core music on this list.
Crap
Overall: not a fan of this style of music
Simple. Boring. "Music". How can you go wrong with songs with amazing titles like "Dumb Waiters" and "I Wanna Sleep With You"? Oh yeah, you make it work with a boring and monotonous lead singer and dull clangy baking rhythms that sound like every other band from the early '80's.
A bit weird
I am not a fan of this type of music. I always give it my best shot though.
Vocal tenebroso. Péssimo mix de bateria. "All of This And Nothing" foi a única música que fez algo de criativo e interessante, no começo e no final (no meio é a mesma merda). Resumo: terrível. Melhor do álbum: "All of This and Nothing". Pior do álbum: Todas as outras, porque são identicamente patéticas.
Niun brillo jajaja
I am sure someone likes this.
I can see how this could be an iconic album for someone who caught it at the right age/point in life.
Not a fan, i like drugs as much as the next person but at a certain point you need to stop. Theres was before this album
Didn’t liked from the first song.
Punk - no Rock - not really New Wave - not really Need to hear before I die - NOT AT ALL
Not for me. Absolutely no appeal.
These songs have no teeth and are immediately forgettable. There’s a feeling of energy that never reaches it’s potential
Not all New Wave is good
All samey, and I don't enjoy this guy's voice. It's like what I don't enjoy about punk. Did this deserve to be here? Probably not.
eh ... it's okay for a minute, but pretty repetitive after a while - it just isn't working for me.
Not really my vibe, to rock for my liking but I appreciate the art the album entailed.
Yeah, New Wave, Post Punk Euro pop rock. I've only heard Pretty In Pink before listening to this but its pretty much same as all the othe bands of the ilk during the early 80's
Not my cup of tea, but I’m sure others would enjoy
Was this more than one song?
Incomprehensible album, just like the band name.
This is not good. Repeating boring instrumental breaks. The singer sucks. Some of the lyrics are creepy. I had written more at one point, but I must not have saved it. And this album honestly doesn't deserve me writing those thoughts again. Favorite Song(s): -
Sounded more like harsh noise at times than something coherent. Very chaotic, more than I like.
I tried to like this, but I just, I didn't like it.. Sorry guys =(
I guess maybe I’m bringing preconceptions of what this music is supposed to sound like, but wow, the stuff on the first track was super out of tune. Couldn’t hang.
Had high expectations based on how much other artists that I like revere the Furs but it was kind of awful. The vocals I mean
Not for me
What a boring album! The singer really is unbearable, it sounds so amateurish it is ridiculous. He projects the image of someone who woke up and was forced to sing the lines. And when he hold notes (or attempts to) it just sounds garbage, what a drag. Removing the singer from the equation couldn't save this record though, everything sounds uninspiring and the same to me. This will have to be one of those records that gets a one star because of how boring it is, and failing to evoke any kind of positive emotion.
Grating voice. Modern English did it better.
Ok
1 st
Ugh. Damn my completionist morals, I really wanted to turn this off. The singer has a truly awful 1/10 voice. He at times sounds like he's a trolling drunk at karaoke seeing how many people he can get to close out and go to a different bar. And it's just a monotonous CD overall too - few exciting moments, long stretches stuck in the same moment, nothing interesting sonically and not much variety. I have a pretty high tolerance for offensive, but I'll also point out that a handful of songs, like "I Wanna Sleep With You" and "Into You Like a Train", are more offensive lyrically than I think anyone who might potentially like this kind of music would enjoy, and not really in the service of any kind of redeeming message.
The most irritating of all the new wave voices, a genre of which I already don’t appreciate. I couldn’t stand this album and considered turning it off half way through, but I regrettably persevered. I Wanna Sleep With You was the worst of the lot, akin to nails on the chalkboard.
Jesus, this is fucking terrible.
This sucks
This was lazy.
My body rejected this completely. Annoyingly British garbage.
Next
not a lot of variation in the first 8 songs on the list...
new wave post punk albumi jonka keskiarvo arvosteluineen päivineen on 2.98-3.04, jep! tämä on maailman mitäänsanomattomin albumi. tyypillistä rock mällätystä ilman mitään syytä ja päälle banaalia lyrisismiä jota ei jaksa edes yrittää kuunnella. ei talenttia... ei ollenkaan talenttia. jos haluatte nähdä talenttia niin siirtäkäämme katse 2020-luvun hittiartisteihin.. mielestäni huonoin kymmenen vuotta musiikille oli 1340-luku (bubonic plague in eurasia) 1980-luku varmistanut kakkospaikan tällä saatanan tempulla.. puuduttavaa, puuduttavaa, puuduttavaa, psykedeeliset turrit. albumi nappasi meikäläisen huonona päivänä, vai tekikö albumi päivästä huonon? heh vähän filosofeille mietittävää, kotitehtävää filosofian opiskelijoille, vähän tekemistä, puuhaa pikkusen filosofiasta kiinnostuneille... mr jones
He is way too British, and altogether too horny, for this album to be good. Across a forty minute runtime, he may have sung four different notes and none of them well. I hate that this mediocrity plagues the 1001 albums list when there are so many albums and artists that deserve the recognition. Here, it's just another horny British artist that can't sing backed up with vaguely psychedelic instrumentation that ends up being way more post punk, not that the recategorization makes it any more intereresting.
Boring, and obscure. Not something I needed to hear before death
One of those albums I wish wasn't on this list. Incredibly same-y songs, very repetitive instrumental phrases backing up a monotonic and boring singer. I Wanna Sleep With You is a turn-off for me. I realize I'm listening to this album 40 years out of its context, and I read about the influence of the Psychedelic Furs during their 80s hey day, but in my mind an album on this list should hold up no matter what era you're listening to it in. I was bored by track #1.
Yep, they put out an album and I have unfortunately listened to it.
I can see the appeal, I'm just not into New Wave.
A painful listen
No.
Was this supposed to be a Talk Talk album instead?
Disappointing! Thought I’d like it because of their song from Pretty in Pink; nope! The guy is either yelling or talk-singing. Not good!
Boring. Singer has no range. Not punk, just soft rock
Meh fell flat for me.
"Talk Talk Talk" No. Stop talking. As this album has interesting instrumentals, but is utterly ruined by that voice. It activates my fight and flight response.
I was never a fan.
