4/10. Creo que esperaba mucho más de una banda que se hace llamar Psychedelic Furs. La psicodelia la sigo buscando. Lo único destacable es la mediocridad que tienen todos los temas a lo largo del disco siendo todos exactamente iguales, una guitarra electrica constantemente sonando.

Not a fan

For me the Psychedelic Furs have the same problem as their peers Echo & the Bunnymen. They each have a wonderful, unique sound, and their hits are absolutely EPIC. But most of their albums have so much mediocre filler that they're hard to get through. Pretty in Pink is an incredible track. But the rest of the songs here are pretty forgettable. They also come across like a band who hasn’t quite figured out what they sound like, or, maybe, like a group of musicians who aren't quite confident in how to blend their individual styles. There’s a ton of promise, but it comes together and becomes transcendent too sporadically. Similarly, their next album Forever Now delivers one incredible track, Love My Way, and they all sound super confident on that album. But it also slogs along from the fact that there just aren't enough quality songs. By Mirror Moves, the urgency of this album's sound is, sadly, sanded down; but they finally deliver an albums' worth of songs. Ultimately, they deserve to have one album on this list. Which belongs is a probably just a matter of preference. Frankly, I'm worried that, because Richard Butler models his sound on Bowie, we're going to get all three.

There was one song I kinda liked, rest was annoying

Wildly underwhelming. His voice sucks, the music is kinda bland especially when I was expecting something intriguing. Lyrics were whatever. Really struck me as a band more concerned with their image and seeming cool and deep and thereby achieving neither. Also it’s just another British band. Yuck.

This was not particularly interesting, but it was pretty decent. There's a little bit of new wave, a little bit of pop and some textural intrigue, but nothing really to write home about. I remember liking the first few songs quite a bit, but everything else also isn't bad. I just don't feel that strongly about this, and I don't know that I liked it enough to give a 3.

Not interesting. Loud and aggressive, and the singer is almost intentionally atonal. Credit because it is artistic, creative, and influential. I just don’t like it. A 2. But could be a 1.

Maybe in 1981 this music was considered to be psychedelic by some, but listening to it now it’s rather generic rock. The last two tracks were the best in my opinion, while the remainder of the album was below average. This UK band was moderately successful back in those days, but I haven’t heard about them in a long while.

This album is such a long and monotonous one. There are a few songs that sound slightly different, but, overall, it is a record that sounds all the time more or less the same. There is just bland music that has not much interest to it. It just sounds very 80's, in a very dated way, and in a bad sense too. Well, it has been, at least, listenable even though not much enjoyable, to be honest.

If you made AI listen to all of these albums and come up with it's own... it would probably sound something like this. 4/10

Massive blind spot for me - early 80s post punk. Crusty aesthetic smashing into 80s pop. The vocals are an acquired taste, but I like the authenticity. I prefer the tracks where they let off the shackles and are not afraid to go off the tracks. A key example of this is the first track [Dumb Waiters] which is messy and all the best kinds of wild. Other stand out tracks are [Into you like a train] [It Goes On] where the rhythm section really gets it together, some distortion creeps in and the tempo shifts add a nice texture. Between these tracks there is some serviceable radio friendly tracks like [Pretty in Pink] and [All of This and Nothing] that are easy to listen to but don't wow me. I wouldn't turn them off if they came on the radio however. The rest of the tracks are just kind of there for me and have drawbacks like poor lyrics [I Wanna Sleep With You] or just forgettable [She is Mine]. **

This was boring and was a massive downer to my Friday afternoon.

Groupe inconnu. Rock/New Wave plutôt dynamique, avec quelques chorus de sax, mais globalement pas très original. L'album commence bien mais ne tient pas la distance. Et je ne suis pas fan du chant. I'm beginning to suspect that this list was made by brits who have a soft spot for 80s new wave and post punk... lol. This was fine, didn't really move the needle for me in any specific way. A bit brash. 2.5/5

Favourite track(s): Mr. Jones; So Run Down Another British rock album from the 80s. I wish I had as much of a soft spot for this music as the curators of this list seem to have had. This one is at least bearable, albeit very uniform. Some of the tracks are so similar to one another, they become hard to distinguish even upon second listening. The instrumentals are defined by clean drumming with a little bit of variances and guitar riffs which are not striking enough to remember. Once or twice the instrumentals are supplemented by saxophone, e-piano, or the like, but do not stand out beyond that. Then there is the rough speak-singing on top of that, ever the same with this kind of rock. I honestly wonder who would call this one in particular their favourite album.

Seriously, such a boring post-punk new wave album. How many of these rubbish picks can end up on this list, because I swear I have heard of this album many times before. His voice is definitely the worst part, so soulless, monotone and blah. The book mentions how it "bridged the gap between underground art-rock scene and critical acclaim", but honestly, it should have stayed in the underground.

That looks... interesting. Well its actually not interesting at all. The singer suck ass. His sinhing is so monotone and unernegetic, he fits the band sound like a piece of bacon on ice cream. Its just bland new wave/punk bullshit that the author of this book loves for some reason. I dont think there is anything this band does that is revolutionary or that is reinventing anything. Its just not very good. All the songs sounds the same, the lyrics are incoherent and stupid (im into you like a train), the hooks are forgetable at best and for some season they thought adding a 5 second cheesy saxophone solo in all of the songs would make them better (spoiler, it doesnt). Im tired of writting review that no one will ever read so ill stop rambling. Its bad.

After the album finished, Spotify played better later-era Psychedelic Furs songs. I say, skip this one and start later in the discography.

Generic New Wave album. It passed the time but I've heard a lot of similar albums.

Good start

Don't love the rough vocals, instrumentals didn't feel particularly compelling

Not bad overall, but still feels dated in places (that sax really?). The early 80s production drives me crazy at times. I'd call it 2 stars but I'd be willing to invest a little more time in this band based on what I've heard so far.

This band could easily be swapped with any of their contemporaries from the new wave/ post punk era of the 80s and I’d never know the difference. They all sound the same to me and not in a good way.

This is as early 80s as an album gets. Despite having different lyrics, notes and rhythms, every song basically ends up sounding the same by about the 2 minute mark … and that’s not a good thing.

Surprisingly strong start with Dumb Waiters. Leaning more post punk than new wave it definately caught my attention. Regrettably that was the highlight. Furs seem content to settle into pop flavored new wave and staying there for the rest of the album. It got a bit repetitive and boring, but not terrible.

Not a great album by any means. Single sucked and I never gave ot a real chance. Relisted to it now and its not as bad as I remember. Too many similar songs and like a mono tone all along the album. Not my thing

Pretty In Pink

Mr Jones sounds like the Wipeout TV show theme, and the rest sounds about the same. It Goes On has a nice drum break, and that's about all that caught my ears.

Very basic but not an unbearable listening experience

I'd heard "Pretty In Pink", never paid any attention to this band. It's labelled post-punk, but riffs, song structures and vocal tone sound a little bit punk pop (reckless, rude as though it's a virtue), a little bit pub rock (chugging along), generally pretty conventional. The lack of instrumental flourish made me wonder whether a lot of entertainment or merit might supposedly be coming from the vocals, but melody, lyrics and singing aren't that interesting or appealing ... Generally it's not totally bad but not at all special, I don't get why it belongs in 1001 anything (apart from 1001 whiny Brit 'hits'). A couple of songs are okay but overall for me it's Pretty Poor, 3/10.

First couple of tracks are the winners - then things get a bit samey I was never a fan of the voice or the writing, so this band was always a pass for me

This album has no reason to be 53 minutes long, just for nothing to happen. It was all very samey, which i appreciate in the smiths but this does not have as much personality. I often found myself bored, which is strange since there was just so much going on here, too much?

This was an interesting one. Brit pop has a big mark against it, but I really liked some of the songs. A wider range than most similar albums I haven't liked, but still a little samey. I didn't care too much for the vocalist, but it didn't take too much away from it. Perfectly average.

The vocals always grated for me when hearing TPF when their stuff was new, and that hasn’t changed over the years. And the lyrics do have some thought behind them, to be fair, but I don’t find them particularly interesting or profound. Musically it’s of-its-time postpunk but with a few frills eg a bit of sax here and there. The best-sounding songs are actually the ones where they flash a bit of psychedelia, as per the band name, but even then I found myself wishing it was Echo and the Bunnymen who did the same thing but so much better.

I never was into them. For some reason "Pretty In Pink" was a massive hit, it's OK but doesn't do anything for me.

When I was in elementary school my older sister was very into The Nylons. She formed an a cappella band called The A Cappella Fruit with some friends of hers. I think she was Nectarine. Until this very moment I thought A Cappella was one word Acappella. Anyway, "Acappella Fruit" and "Psychedelic Furs" are quite similar as band names go. The first word is an adjective with four syllables. The second word is a single syllable noun starting with an F. It is debatable whether I ever had anything interesting to say in these reviews. It is clear now that I am absolutely bereft of interesting thoughts on these albums. I am pretty much thoroughly ambivalent to this album.

Honestly, I listened to this album but don’t remember enough about it to know what to say in this review. I feel like that says it all.

England in the 80s must have sucked

They get a 2 only because the instruments rock. But I cannot enjoy the monotone lead vocals. It's catchy on a couple unique tracks, but gets tiresome fast.

Some of these lyrics are pure brainrot. The music is pretty solid and coherent, though.

Despite what I think is a decent opening salvo - the schronky Dumb Waiters and the original mix of Pretty In Pink - Talk Talk Talk settles down into very pedestrian rock’n’roll: all the edges rough and a hole in the middle. Just the year before Steve Lillywhite had produced the expansive 3rd Peter Gabriel album and the clean Black Sea by XTC, so the murky production here must be a deliberate choice. It does justify Butler's coarse unpleasant voice and that unpleasant voice does make some banal music a little more interesting, but I could do without Butler’s awkward sexual overtures. My mother went to the see the Psychedelic Furs in the early 80s. She told her older sister, who misheard the band as the Psychedelic Fairies. I tried to tell this to my friend, LD, a Furs fan, but he misheard the misheading as the Psychedelic Furries. He found it very funny, so I didn’t bother to correct the misunderstanding. 2 I was initially baffled by this album. While there is frequently a pleasant sheen of Berlin Bowie about the whole thing the musical detail is so banal that I felt compelled to listen a few more times to be sure it wasn’t some sort of conceptual feature. The singing in particular was at first full of seemingly bold decisions, albeit David Bowie’s bold decisions from a few years before, and yet its volitional element seemed to decay to my ears the more I listened. By fourth spin I was nearly certain that Richard Butler was, just, a bad singer. First mystery this album was, then farce. Late in the first listen I caught myself thinking ‘haven’t I heard this one already?’ and checked the track listing lest I had fallen foul, again, of the Special Edition Deluxe Reissue. I hadn’t. It’s just that a ludicrous percentage of the top line throughout Talk Talk Talk, particularly in the verses, is ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’ on the offbeat. I toyed for a while with the notion that this was a conscious decision with some sort of artistic logic before acknowledging to myself that I had given far more time to these morons than I ought to. One of the worst albums on its subgenre I have heard. 1/5

Nothing too crazy, but it’s the kind of album you have to listen to on repeat for one to really appreciate it. I like new wave as a genre, but this album didn’t really do much for me.

Utterly naff

It was all right, but the next morning I don't remember it.

I had never heard of this band before. Perhaps they aren't discussed so much simply because they aren't very good. I was unimpressed by the songwriting, the vocals, and I honestly thought the production sounded muddy and unbalanced throughout most of the album. That being said, it wasn't entirely detestable, and a couple of tracks were done fairly well.

This post-punk/new wave album charges ahead on serrated guitars, punchy rhythm work, and dense sax flourishes, while the vocals deliver their angst with theatrical drawl and sneering cool. Yet for me it plays like being stuck at a loud after-party hosted in an echoing hallway—initially thrilling with attitude, but quickly grating as the clamor swallows nuance.

Not a fan of the British punk voice. Especially the annunciation on I Wanna Sleep With You. Sounds like the singer from IDLES

I like this band. I really do! I've seen 'em live and everything! But *Talk Talk Talk* is one of their weaker records. It's a transitional album between their dense, swirling debut (terrific) and the crisp, poppier sound of their third record *Forever Now* (also great), making a tentative step away from the former towards the latter. However, the noisier, more chaotic numbers that make up the bulk of this record sound like retreads of songs on the debut; even the vocal melodies sound recycled. *Talk Talk Talk* also contains a few pop-oriented tracks in "Pretty In Pink", "She Is Mine" and "All Of This And Nothing", which are the highlights of this record. One can only wish they would have gone in this direction for the whole album (but you have to wait for *Forever Now* or better yet *Mirror Moves* for that).

This guy's singing straight up blows. There's some decent energy going on with the rest of the band, nothing spectacular, but he keeps ruining the music with his off-key singing. It's mad. Get rid of Richard Butler and give the sax guy more airtime -- that would fix all my problems with this record.

Not into this record despite some cool moments. Some creepy and off putting lyrics, but mostly just not super interesting to me, especially vocally. I know they've influenced a lot of the stuff I love, but this didn't do it for me. Some aesthetic production decisions I'm not into as well, for instance a lot of it feels pretty mono/up the middle to me. Like big important guitar parts feel lacking because of how they're treated in the recordings. Is this like the post-punky version of Alice Cooper? It feels like it's missing some edge. Fave song: Pretty In Pink - great hook but I don't really like the way the verses feel. Somethings just off about it all to me.

*Dumb Waiters: new wave-y but strangely shoegaze-y. the vocals are kinda killing it for me but the overall sound is so interesting *Pretty in Pink: has the structure of a pop song but the texture is so distorted and moody. it's a cool contrast, reminds me a bit of Sorry in that way although they obviously sound quite different *I Wanna Sleep With You: that riff goes stupid, really like the tone. the dissonance between everything makes it more compelling No Tears: it's alright. this track would blend in seamlessly on Marquee Moon Mr. Jones: like it but don't love it Into You Like a Train: it's like a mix between Talking Heads and Cocteau Twins, really fascinating sonically even though the hook doesn't hook me It Goes On: instrumental is dope, especially the break in the middle where it builds to that big moment, but the vocal melody is sooo dull and repetitive *So Run Down: guitar tones are out of control on this whole record. this one's a vibe, into it All of This and Nothing: I want to like this so bad but I just keep getting stuck on the vocals. the frontman sounds like an 83 year old guy that couldn't even sing at 20 She Is Mine: filler for a closer is crazy god, I wish these old rock bands weren't allergic to having vocalists that can sing. starts out strong and proceeds to be less and less remarkable as it goes. absolutely adore the sound of it, so many interesting textures and tones throughout, but the vocals don't bring much to the table and there aren't enough hooks or melodies to make it still stick in spite of that __ SCORE: 5/10 ADDED TO PLAYLIST: Dumb Waiters, Pretty in Pink, I Wanna Sleep With You, So Run Down

Its not great. The mastering is dull and vocals always seem to take to the background. Makes words hard to understand while the lackluster guitar and drums take the center stage. The songs themselves aren't that interesting or fun either.

Noisy, yet poppy. And I can hear how influental it was. Not bad, and yet I got quickly tired of listening to it. Not much variety musically, though the saxophone was quite nice. I'm not a fan of the vocals, though.

I’d love to actually see the full list of 1001 albums at somepoint as they just have left some brilliant ones out so they could include some dubious ones. Sure, Pretty in Pink is a classic song, and there is possibly one other good song on this album but it’s hardly a classic in its own genre let alone of all time albums.

It’s a fun album at first, but a lot of the songs have the same cadence and tone to his speak sing vocals, which got old by the end (which sounds almost exactly like “Pretty in Pink”).

Best Song: Pretty in Pink. It has that kind of medicated, sleepy, background quality that makes it okay. Worst Song: I Wanna Sleep With You. Would it be an early 80s British song if it didn't include a song that sounded like it was specifically written to be used in a subway murder? Overall: Great, another 80s British Bowie impersonation. But hey, at least this one has a saxophone! And honestly, the saxophone does make the whole thing a little bit more palatable.

I was excited to listen to this, but I was very disappointed. Every chorus for every song on this album, I expected them to break into "pretty in pink"...it all sounded the same.

I've seen several people mention in the 1001 albums project how they feel it's overloaded with generic UK rock and britpop. With several records I disagree, but here I agree completely. There's nothing that really stands out from this record, I felt it could've been done by countless other bands, and probably has been, to be honest. If I had to pick one song, I'd pick "Pretty In Pink", being the biggest hit. But honestly, I forgot about this record pretty fast after listening to it.

Too much screaming

Better than expected but probably forgot it by tomorrow.

Not much else here, apart from that obvious song. It picked up towards the end with some decent sax solos, otherwise disappointing.

Not quite "don't go to the ambulance!" but a slice of punk adjacent tunes that feel so of their time. Results in a very one-note album, and there's only so much misery tinged sprechgesang I can cope with, not aided by a some less than exciting guitars. It just....is.

1 of a million generic sounding British gobbledygook

Some of the most mingy, diseased vocals ever put to record. First track is particularly horrid and has the aural effect of Johnny Rotten’s rotting cadaver uncle groaning along to bagpipes. Next track Pretty In Pink is kinda classic but would be made better if sung by anybody else. There is a glint of good stuff elsewhere here but it is all hamstrung by the rough rough rough vocals. Album would ultimately be better if it was Mute Mute Mute.

I still don't really like British New Wave, but there's elements of this where the singer has more of a punk edge and the band veers toward ska and I like those moments better. I don't really want to listen to this again though.

Run of the mill post punk record of the early 80s. Does not bring anything new or unique to the table that other artists haven't done better. Really don't see the point on this being an album one has to listen to.

The instrumentation and general mix is pretty but the structure songwriting and vocals are putting the entire thing off. really struggling with the lyrics and vocals on this one

# 520 : Talk Talk Talk A two line bio, generic album art for the period and the first few reviews don't give me much confidence in this LP. Alas it lived up to its hype. Probably a 2 don't remember this one.

I've heard some singles from this group. "Pretty in Pink" among those. 80's British post-punk/new wave has a distinct sound, especially when the lead vocalist is a nasally British man. Many can probably take or leave the saxophone too, which definitely puts this record at a specific point in time (the early 80's). About 40 min of similar sounding new wave at the end of the day. The group's best song is from their next album anyway.

Not my favourite talk talk album non of the tunes particularly stood out on a first listen. Nothing particularly offensive about it either

Sometimes 80s music sounds just too 80s. That’s the case often on Talk Talk Talk. The saxophone isn’t really a positive. The album is fine, nothing special. Caught in between of artsy post punk and poppy post punk. Not intense enough, not catchy enough 5.5/10

Actively waiting for this to end. Love My Way is such a classic and I don’t mind some new wave so I was hoping for a really strong album but this disappointed me. Weak vocals, uninteresting music.

Het eerste album van de lijst die ik nog niet eerder had gehoord, dus daarom moet de rating met een korreltje zout worden genomen. In het kort: een onopvallende en weinig memorabele plaat. The Psychedelic Furs zijn een van de vele Britse post-punk bands ontstaan aan het eind van de jaren 70 en eerlijk gezegd is daar wel zo'n beetje alles wat interessant is aan dit album mee gezegd. Het begint nog redelijk sterk met 'Dumb Waiters' (vooral die schelle saxofoon oid op de achtergrond), maar toen ik zag dat 'Pretty in Pink' de grote hit was had ik al een beetje een vermoeden dat dit ging tegenvallen. De productie is wel lekker fuzzy en textured van tijd tot tijd, maar de tekst en de zanger zijn stem doen me weinig. Dit album voelt als een slap aftreksel van de absolute klassiekers die in die tijd door generatiegenoten zijn uitgebracht, 2 sterren.

Vreemde vocal style, pretty cool. Doet me ergens denken aan Sex Pistols maar dan wat terughoudender. Sax is zeer welkom op deze plaat. Lyrics gaan van half poëtisch tot kort door de bocht maar wel open voor interpretatie, en van outdated tot relevant. Het album begint heel vet maar ik ben het toch snel zat, en zet het niet snel nog eens op denk ik. Beste: No Tears / She Is Mine / Pretty In Pink Minste: So Run Down Albumhoes: Love it! 5/5

Eerste nummer vond ik echt niks. Tweede nummer wel beter. Wordt uiteindelijk wel wat beter maar niet echt waar ik van heb: wow, dit wil ik vaker draaien. Mr jones en tweede nummer die ertussenuit schieten.

Totaal geen fan van de vocals wat de hele ervaring van het album wel aardig verpest. Halverwege het album was ik er eigenlijk al wel klaar mee en begon veel op elkaar te lijken. Dumb Waiters, I Wanna Sleep With You en It Goes On zijn een aantal nummers waar ik de muziek prima van kan waarderen maar waar de vocals het echt volledig vergallen.

This album sounds so similar to other albums from the same era/wave that I kept getting into songs and in my head thinking "oh I know this one". In fact, I did not know this one. And that speaks enough to me that this album does not stand out in the least. Just listen to this Pistols and you'll enjoy it more.

Occasionally good guitars, but between the horns and one of the worse offenders of the early 80s British new wave vocals, I've got nothing more to talk about.

The music is a borderline 3 I tell myself. And then every time the vocals come in, I want to skip the track, which I did often.

I think the fact this album peaked at 89 on the Billboard top 200 in '81 is proof that there are at least 88 more deserving albums to be on this list than this one... Helt grei britisk nyveiv. De to første sangene var kule og fengende nok, men etter det dabber kvaliteten fullstendig. Alle sangene begynner etter hvert å høres helt prikk like ut. Ganske kjedelig.

Well, they're probably considered to be post-punk, and not my cup of tea to be honest. and for the most part they lived up to this. The one outstanding track was of course Pretty in Pink. Quite a bit more poppy, and I believe it was used in some film or other (can't remember the name, and never seen it) That's about All I can Say for this. 2

This was entirely uninteresting to me.

Is that an electric saxophone in the first song? That sound is horrific - maybe it'd be better if it wasn't triple tracked with another version of itself slightly out of tune. If I heard that in the middle of the album I probably would've turned it off right there. It feels like that sort of out of tune and out of time feel permeates through the rest of this, unfortunately. It's hard to listen to; like you have to go fishing through the noise to hear the song in between the hooks. Even "Pretty In Pink" is subject to it, though I feel their producer must've told them to tone it down a bit for that one. Really didn't enjoy this.

I've been enjoying our 1980's English bands for the most part, but this doesn't make the cut. Even the wikipedia entry doesn't have much to go on it. Why is this significant?

I don't know what the difference between "noisy" (something I like in music) and "muddy" (something I don't like in music) is to my ears. The two self-defined elements are close in my mind... but this album is muddy. The singing just drones on, and all the instruments are just kinda simmered in an stew devoid of salt. The sonic equivalent of what I imagine food in the UK taste like.

Cringe

Starts with the cacophonous Dumb Waiters, then does a complete 180 with the surprisingly poppy Pretty in Pink, what follows after that is more similar to the opener. Mostly forgettable, but occasionally interesting, not something I’d come back to again. I think this band is vastly overrated, I view them as a borderline one hit wonder.

Again, thanks to this list I heard portions of this album before, to my dismay. I don't like the singer's voice, it unnerves me.

Pretty boring with some interesting moments

Eh, it's not a bad album, it has some moments. But feels like it's a bit too self-indulgent. You can just randomly start skipping the sections in the song, and everything you'll land on will feel the same-ish, part of the same song, with the same performance.

Saved Prior: Pretty in Pink Off Rip: She Is Mine Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Mostly just 10 variations on the same song. Pretty in Pink is the best of those variations, but even that is my least favorite of their hits. Cleansed my palette with the quintuple queue of Heartbreak Beat, Heaven, Love My Way, The Ghost in You, and their 2020 single You'll Be Mine which are all better than anything on this album.

I forgot where I was when I had to stop listening to this the other day. Couldn’t figure it out because they all sound the same.

It’s mid, just plain mid. Dude sounds like he’s on the verge of being blackout drunk. Horrid vocals. The only reason this isn’t getting a 1 is cause the instruments HARD CARRIED this album.

If you want to listen to Pretty In Pink about eight times on this ten song record, then you'll love this! However, I'm more of a Love My Way fan.

I really only knew the band from their big Hollywood soundtrack hit and, as far as I had given them any thought at all, I probably figured they were American. Pretty In Pink is still a banger but the rest is more of a slog. It throws all the appropriate new wave shapes but the actual songs are quite leaden and the guy's voice doesn't particularly help in that respect. Can't see myself returning to this one any time soon.

The Psychedelic Furs brought strong seventies Bowie vibes--the vocals in particular but the music, too. I hate to rag on artists that seem to only mimic another artist's sound, but I didn't hear too much originality. Despite this, this album was very far from a miserable listen. The best part of Talk Talk Talk was absolutely the saxophone! The songs ran together too much, but there's something to be said about every song on an album contributing to the flow and the same vibe.

I love Pretty in Pink, and I was familiar with it well in advance. The rest of it, though... I just didn't enjoy much. Eughhh I honestly didn’t love the immediate aggression of british pop and then that’s all I could think of from then on. The music seemed good enough but the vocals seemed overwhelming.

Dumb Waiters is a strange one, but the off-kilterness seems too overt not to be deliberate. Wish the bass was punched up in the mix as it is pretty buried and makes this feel really flat. Maybe New Wave isn't for me, but I'm pretty meh on that whole experience. Like it is objectively fine music, but nothing that moved the needle for me. Hard to imagine getting pumped up to see this live.

Perhaps I need more Psychedelics to really appreciate Furs. This was a brutal slog for me. I had heard “Pretty in Pink” many times and tolerated it, maybe even enjoyed it. But this. Ugh. The literalness of the laughter during “She is Mine” when he says “You just have to laugh at it all” was too much for me. Mercifully it was the last song.

This is another one of those albums that I seem to be getting at the moment that is one great song and the rest of the album is 'meh'. Disappointing.

A couple of cool sax solos, but couldn't get into it. It's not bad, but I'm not interested in giving a 3rd listen. 2/5.

This guy really loves David Bowie doesn't he? In fact he really loves one particular bit of phrasing of David Bowie that he just does over and over. A nice wee tribute but grating.
