Interessante Musik. Mag ich.

I appreciate it as an instrumental but forgettable sound, ultimately.

Good background music. Mix of EDM and tango. Odd combination. It kind of works, but it’s not very exciting. Did I need to hear this? No. Did I mind hearing this? No. Favorite song: la del Ruso

Really strange one this. Listened to it in a couple of goes due to time constraints. And it's a great album ...... for a couple of tracks, then it all gets a bit samey. Still I can't help feeling it's worth more than a 2, so 3 it is.

I really enjoyed that and massively didn’t expect to! I listened whilst driving and my pre-conception was that I could rattle through it by listening to a bit, then skipping forward, and get to the next album on the list as I’m a couple behind. But, I didn’t skip anything. Although tempted at times on some of the very long tracks. Found it hypnotic and interesting. Female vocalist was cool. If I hadn’t have been driving, I might just have grabbed a rose to hold between my teeth and sweep my Doris off her feet. Thank God for the A420 from Swindon to Oxford. It saved her from potentially the worst hour of her life.

Good lo-fi tunes, I actually don't hate it ⭐⭐⭐

Really cool vibe and production. Possibly a taaaad too similar across a whole record, but I dig it. Favourite tracks: Queremos Paz, Época (swear this is off some advert), Chunga's Revenge.

Interesting style, very unique. Some of the tracks could have been a minute or two shorter.

Liked parts of this album. Seemed to have a lot of dub influence mixed with Latin music. I think I even heard a melodica in there. It does taper off in the second half and become more electronic focused. A little too long as well. 3/5 Might listen again

Great accordion and generally interesting sound but half way through I got soo bored

I realise that the perfect time to listen to this is while sitting in a pompous cinema lobby, as I sit in a pompous cinemas lobby listening to this.

Didn't listen to all of it but enjoyed what I did.

It is yet another electronica album, but the tango flourishes make it a bit more interesting than some of the others.

Never heard of this, but was really decent background music. Nothing I would turn to though. 3/5

Swishy combination of trip hop/instrumental hip hop DJ production techniques and tango rhythms and some jazzy piano. Kind of a novelty, but it works well. Good for working and zoning out or for playing in the atrium of your neo-art deco hotel lounge.

Solid background music.

Pretty fun

not bad

A modern update of the classic South American/European tango as filtered through modern electronic production techniques. Interesting, from a technical point of view but loses its emotional impact the longer the album goes on. My favorite track: "Triptico"

Some cool ass Electronica Tango with a surprise Frank Zappa cover thrown in there. We have been on a roll with some worldly music recently. This dragged on a bit long with the repetitive music but each song was pretty unique and was great for having on in the background

Latin, Tango, soft, 2001 -> 3

Allright but got boring

I liked this. It's got interesting rhythms and is a bit hypnotic. I'm having a hard time giving it a four, though, as it's sort of aural wallpaper.

I was expecting some Buddha-Bar level inoffensive lounge music but this is slightly more interesting than that. Not by much, but sometimes the tango elements blend well with the electronic music background.

Latin jazz/hip hop beats combination. Cool combo. It surprisingly had a good variety of different sounds throughout the songs. Cool stuff overall, but not quite my thing. Standouts: Queremos Paz, Epoca, Santa Maria, and Vuelvo Al Sur

Nice background music, but don't know why it is on this list.

Sounds like music that would be playing in a luxury hotel's lobby. I guess the fusion of tango and electronic is cool? Low three.

nice trip hop tango album??? super cool music but a bit repetitive and not really my genre tbh. but it’s cool and nice.

Too long but some good songs.

Enjoyable background music

An interesting Argentinian Salsa electronic vibe. It wasn't 100% my style but the instrumentation was wonderful. Standouts: Triptico and Queremos Paz.

A pleasant enough listen. I’ll never queue it up - but it would be great atmosphere/background music for a restaurant or a social gathering.

Some international baby making music.

Actually a pretty nice album. I had a very low expectation for this and so I was pleasantly surprised. Pretty mid still, but nice tango-ey vibes, definitely a great listen if you just leave it in the background.

It's basically the Ocean's 12 soundtrack

Really glad I listened to this. Not my thing, but I loved the first song and appreciate the genre fusion experimentation

Nice ambient Latin electronica? Cool. Will listen again.

Stylish and sets a mood - but I don't hear what sets it apart from the atmospheric sea of electronic chill-out world music of the late 90s /early 2000s (think Buddha Bar and Cafe del Mar compilations).

I didn't do anything to tango, why does it want revenge? First track, I hate the dated and easy loungecore backing beats, did someone just press 'demo' on the synthesiser. I love the tango but this just drains the life out of everything. Ah, I recognise Epoca. Fair enough. Still dated, but decent. I mellowed on the production after a bit. La Musica Brutale is also good. Ends strong on the last two proper tracks (before the fairly generic chill-house remixes). Vuelva Al Sur a good moody evening track. A decent, if not especially essential listen.

Good background working music. No complaints, but nothing stood out.

This is another great example of an album I had no knowledge of, that I believe fully earns its spot on this list. I don’t care how people feel about this kind of music. It appeals to me in a very particular way. Fair warning, if you are looking for something that is really going to engage you through your whole listen, maybe pass on this one. I’ve often found electronic music, and things adjacent to said genre, to be really great for background music. Like studying and stuff. I know for a fact I’m not alone in this either. Lofi hip-hop isn’t electronic, but those 24/7 live streams exist for a reason. And this album definitely falls into that category of music. Someone described it as high quality phone hold music and I love that comparison. They aren’t even far off either. The production and elements being pieced together actually sound really good. I love the use of real live instrumentation, like the keyboards, double bass and violin. Plus another great thing about electronic and downtempo music is how infinitely versatile and unique it can be. When combined with other things, the possibilities are basically endless. For some reason, I’ve been getting more and more familiar with tango music recently through the list. And this is categorized as electrotango, which obviously combines the two genres. And the Latin feel of this, plus the mild World music inspiration gives this a totally different vibe. Queremos Paz is a fantastic way to start. My biggest issue is the length. This is nearly an hour long, and by the half way most of what it is has to say has been said. It gets pretty stale towards the end. But there are a few highlights spread through out. Rating: 6/10

Fine I guess. A little annoying while I was trying to work though

It's fine, could be setbreak music. Are they pioneers in the use if accordion in electronic music? It's certainly possible

Pretty forgettable. I like how it's tango and somehow always has a French accent even when instrumental. 6/10 Pretty sure this was on repeat in every hipster coffee shop for 20 years

La Revancha del Tango is cool music to play in the background of your wine party but it doesn't leave a lasting impression.

Favourite song - Last tango in Paris

Pretty but I don't go crazy for instrumental albums.

cool sounds

7.7/10.

Easy listening tango adaptations, just on the good side of boring.

Although I enjoyed this very chilled out music, Parisian style I did find it quite repetitive. Similar beat and musical notes throughout. Should it be in on this list though 🤔

As another review put it: top tier phone hold music. Elevator music, ambience, whatever you wanna call it; it was nice in the background for an hour. There were some points that stuck out but honestly couldn’t tell you what songs those points were on.

Not a bad listen.

Lovely listen - was a sunny Sunday afternoon though - might not be so apt on a wet November Monday

Kind of fun at first, but it got a bit tiresome after a while.

Not my usual thing. Pretty good.

Yeah, this is ok. I'm not sure what metric I should go by, but this is fine. it's not groundbreaking or anything but it's ok. I don't know if I should say uninspired, because I don't know the history of the album. I'll give it a solid ok—if you couldn't tell.

Nice background music

Just a tad to repetitive to be amazing, but can float away in this.

French electronica tango? okay sign me up. This was really odd. cool ambient piece though, nice background for like a nice quiet evening at home.

Who would have ever imagined accordions and electronica could mix. It mostly worked I think, but it did get a bit samey by the end.

Intressant koncept, kanske det blir lite enformigt men tyckte det var bra

Pretty cool. No need to translate; funked along nicely.

Decent background music. Kind of seems like a progenitor of lo-fi in a lot of ways.

it was quite fresh at first, but it never develops on the idea, its very repetitive YNN

Interesing concept for a couple of songs but not a whole album

Tangos are never a bad idea.

Nice idea

Too longgggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg!!!!!!!

“Hey, Gotan Project. Make me a soundtrack for a chilled out party but make it so everyone is reminded of 12 Monkeys.”

Gear: Hifiman Arya Artwork: auf den zweiten Blick ganz entzückend Mix: Everything in Its Right Place Musik: Café del Mar Ibiza Chillout Mix No. 19425 Wertung: ☕☕☕/5

Trip Hop and Latin infused tango music made by a French outfit seems like an absolutely ridiculous concept, yet this works surprisingly well. Although this was an interesting listen and a nice change of pace, I doubt I would ever listen to it again. It really became monotonous after a while.

I really enjoyed this!

Wow, never listened to this group or this type of music before. Interesting!

Liked Songs Queremos Paz Época

Non-english, non-instrumental album on this list is a rare for me. This one is just tangoing around with sensual sounds of accordion. 3.5/5.

Ugh. Saw the title and artist and had never heard of it. I hope this isn't another electronica album, I thought. I opened the album on Tidal and looked at the track listing — Hmm, maybe a South American rock band or something? I thought, hopefully. Nope. French electronica. Gahhhhh. I'll admit, it's not the worst electronica album ever (I'll also admit I didn't really listen to this but skipped around through each song because I'm not doing more electronica). It's actually real music, with songs that have progressions and don't just repeat the same loops incessantly. And there are actually some songs with sung lyrics in Spanish. But there's also so much French accordion. And very similar trip-hoppy beats on every song. It all sounds like variations of the same song. 3/5 and that's generous

has a nice latin feel to it, even though it's french

Cool enough in the background, not sure I'd ever want to listen to it in isolation tho. I wish it was a little bit shorter too. Fav songs: - El Capitalismo Foráneo

Interesting like a soundtrack to a foreign film where I have no idea what’s going on but don’t even think of turning off.

Några låtar var tuffare andra mer ingenting

Good but samey.

Digging it - 3.5 stars

5/10 Ok doke 5-22-2024

Molto ascoltabile

Nice change of pace.... great beats

Nice to work to, but when the work stops, the stop button is pushed.

I am moving to Argentina on the force of this album alone.

Fine background music. I got a bit tired of it by Last Tango in Paris.

One of "Best of figure skating" albums

Cool mix of electronic and tango, and love the dark synths. Reminds me of some early Gorillaz production (ie Latin Simone) (3.5/5)

I was ready to give this 1 star based on the album cover alone but turns out this is pretty fun spanish music for all occasions!

Neat idea. But doesn't go beyond that. A little long and good for the background but nothing more than that.

This is perhaps my top non-English album thus far in the project. Some very solid jams on this. I don't think I'll return to it, but it was still a very enjoyable listen.

Enjoyed this one a lot. Sounds like music from movies. Is French Latin music a thing?? I dig it. 3.25

I enjoy this, but don’t think I’ll be listening again because I feel like I got it. Nothing more I could really get from this album. It’s good, but simple. Maybe they’re able to expand, but did not on this project which leaves it feeling like a base coat with VERY minimal details. Nothing I didn’t like, but not enough here to like. 3/5

Well crafted, just not my thing.

Good for background

No lo termine, muy repetitivo, redundante

I like it. I don't love it. It's good for what it is, and I did like a fair bit of this genre back in the day. But it seems like if you've heard one of these albums you've heard them all. If you like the sound, that's great, but there's not much of interest going on musically, and lyrically, well it's in French. Probably an excellent example of the style, but this would be background music for me, and even then I probably wouldn't bother.

Honestly not bad. Enjoyed this Spanish album

Thoughts before listening: No idea what this is. I'm assuming some sort of techno/EDM record. Being from 2001 I might have some connection to the sound having heard it at a club or something, but this was never really my scene. Review: This is pleasant enough although not my style. More ambient background music than the more hard dance I was expecting. I enjoyed listening to this while working, but I'm not adding any of this to my playlist. 3-stars

Big Fenton vibes

Very fun and energetic songs, excellent dance music. Unfortunately I do feel that the songs all sound the same and run together with their longer lengths, which makes it not ad enjoyable to sit and listen to

Nice ambient music but not something I want to listen to a full album for. A lot of the songs sounds like they’ve been featured in movie soundtracks!

A pleasant surprise

This is going to completely mess up my algorithm now that it’s going to play on repeat throughout the day

It’s good. Really good. But it also really feels like background music

Mjög töff tónlist sem var mjög gaman að kynnast.

Interesting enough for a 3.

For the first run it seems like background-music but it is better than that. It has a nice groove and is instrumentally very good. A mixture between traditonal elements, jazz and club music.

Its so of its time and was so played out I cant quite get into it.

Groovy instrumental stuff, a few familiar tracks surprisingly. I'd give this a 3.5 if I could.

Electronic jazz sounds cool in theory. The execution leaves a lot to be desired.

the instrumentals wow??? so dancey and chill i loved this 3.5/5

This was fun. The mix of Tango and some EDM-style beat sounds worse than it actually was. I guess it will do perfectly as work music.

Latina funk, wasn't bad at all, decent summer background music

Innocuous enough lounge music. Saved it for future listening. Is its inclusion on the 1001 list just due to representing the genre?

3.1/5 Best Track: Queremos Paz

Okay I'll never come back to this, but I gotta give it cudos for being an inspiration for the Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Soundtrack.

This was interesting. Mostly instrumental, French. I liked the way the drums sound. Probably not something I would go back to.

Unmemorable electronic music. Stand-out: Last Tango in Paris Score correction (misclick): Wild Gift - X (3*)

It was an easy listen.

Liked this one. Energetic and fun to listen to.

Lite smooth att ha i bakgrunden. Påminde en del om Guacamelee, nice på sitt sätt

Pretty chill instrumental stuff

A beautiful ambient mesh of tango with a flair of mixed samples and beats.

I actually did enjoy this, but it went on too long and I don’t think it’s much more than interesting background music.

Finnish dishwater tablets did an advert with a song that was pretty catchy and chill....yeah that but a whole album of it. Despite that, it's not bad it veers on dull at times but I can see it being great background music at like a refined dinner with people who use too many knifes and forks

Great album with lots of interesting, highly varied tango tracks

Lively tango album. Not sure I got it.

It’s nice background music if you’re doing jobs around the house. Fine musicians and good rhythms.

A genre described as ‘Tango’ wouldn’t be my go-to, but I really liked this album. Great musicianship and layers of sound. Pretty decent!

I love when people experiment with combing genres. It was a cool mix between trip hop and tango, nice to have in the background but i don't know if i will listen to it again. But i wouldn't mind it being played.

This was just ok for me. It's good for what it is but I would never choose this to listen to.

Pleasant

They were having a lot of fun! This was entirely too long!

Pretty groovy, but nothing stellar.

decent background working music but pretty repetitive

The auditory experience of French indie cinema of the time. Not intended as a dunk, frankly I prefer it this way. Good to put on for a vibe, but not the most enjoyable album experience. Clocking in at 1 1/2 hours, I don’t really know that it was meant to be. Good for what it is.

It's an instrumental album

Iberian accordion music over rock-beat vamps. Not objectionable. The improvisations are pretty good. Low key vibes. Better than I expected

interesting, experimental. kinda trippy. but weird that they are french?

Great background noise. Listened while I was coding and it was easy to get in the zone. Not sure I'd ever listen to this outside of that context though because I think I'd get a bit bored. A lot of the songs feel repetitive. I haven't been paying close attention but I feel like I keep noticing some repetition between the songs.

Pretty cool stuff. Not inherently enough of my thing to give it the extra half star bump here, but it's solid nonetheless. 3.5/5

I'm never quite sure how to rate albums that are well-made, well-executed, but just not for me. I enjoyed my listen on this one just fine, but I can't see myself revisiting it. Maybe for the instrumental playlist I have for work? Some of these tracks were groovy, even danceable. Other tracks made me feel like I was sitting in the waiting room for my therapy appointment. I can't in good conscience give this anything lower than a three.

songs blended into each other a bit and felt a bit repetitive at times, would make for a beautiful movie soundtrack. enjoyed having in the background while working.

Electronica und Tango fusionieren hier zu einem Fußwipper-Album, dass man gut nebenher hören kann. Ein paar extrem bekannte Tracks drauf. 2,5

2.9 per track. Pretty good actually but for background music. Not sure I'd ever put this on to actually listen to.

3,5. kaffihús, notalegt. tangórafræna.

Didn't even get an actual tattoo for the cover? Sometimes I doubt your committment to Gotan Project.

Almost 4 stars. Quite interesting.

Kind of nice elevator music.

Nice elevator music for listening to in the background while I study

Helt ok. Bitvis lite mycket dragspel, men ingenting wow. Spanskt är bevisligen inte lika intressant som franskt.

Good. See /albums80 for more info

Have not heard of this band before but dayummm, I really dig this album but it kinda deduct a star for being super repetitive. Its still groovy tho!

Tää oli jotenkin ihan joka paikassa kun tää julkaistiin, vaikka itse löysin tämän toki myöhemmin. Ehkä tän on kuunnellut vähän liian monta kertaa jotta jaksais täysillä innostua. Hieno levy siitäkin huolimatta joka on paikkansa ansainnut. Ehkä tää on aiheuttanut vaan ähkyn. Ja onhan tää vähän one trick pony. 3/5

Tosi kiinnostava, tykkään. Ehkä vähän liian turvallinen pidemmän päälle. Olisi voinut kääntyä jazziin tai kokeelliseen teknoon enemmän. Siksi jää kolmeen.

Chill house type music with a Latin or French flare. Not bad

I like this kind of music, but find the album unexceptionle

Relaxing and pleasant 3.5/5

Enjoyed the vibe then about 2/3 of the way through it felt very repetitive and skipped the last 1/3.

It was just like everyone said a background music album but it was enjoyable i have to say

First song was very promising - a nice and quite original mix of electronic music and latino rhytms. Melody was as catchy as the beat. But for the rest of the album, so another 50 minutes or so, I felt like I'm listening to the remix of that song in few different versions. It was repetitive and tiring, it just seemed like Gotan Project took a nice idea for a song and made a full record out of it. Overall, it wasn't too good, but wasn't that bad either, definitely I had worse experience with other albums like that.

Spanish

Quite enjoyable

Cat: this is the music they play on the resort tvs on the guide channel. Cool moooooood music tho

Accordian-focused instrumentals on mellow percussion tracks. Good background music

I was not expecting to like this, but it was pretty good! 3 stars.

This was kind of fun as background music, a total mood of an album. A little goes a long way though.

Interesting in an average way, definitely in a bit of an ebb album wise lately

I'm on my annual biking trip, and there was neither wifi nor available cellphone network where slept last night. Sitting this one out. Will listen to it later. Have enough memories of Gotan Project to know it's not my thing though... Neutral 3/5 grade. Number of albums left to review: less than half. This one goes to my "waiting list" (neither nor...). Next please.

Interesting and unique. Not an every day listener for me.

“La Revancha del Tango,” that is a little pretentious name for a record not released by Gardel, even more pretentious for a non-Argentinian artist. It is a fun album, to be honest; something to put as background music, do your stuff, and somehow feeling sophisticated while doing it. I don’t think it as either innovative or influential, so it ranks low on those boards. Should I listen to it before dying? Don’t know, maybe to feed a little my inner snob self?

Melancholisch

Inoffensive and chilled beats. Much better examples of the genre around that time for me though

Listened Before? N Another instrumental - In a way I'm glad it's not filled with a ton of French vocals. This album was pretty okay. Good background music for working. It feels a bit like a movie soundtrack most of the time. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Santa Maria

Like other people have said, it’s good background or hold music but nothing life changing

This was ok. I would probably have been interested in this if was released a few years earlier when I was into DJing “cool music” at “cool bars”. Not very exciting to me in 2023 though.

It's very classy. It feels like the sort of late afternoon on a comedown music you'd listen to before you head out again. Or very early 00s ethical vegetarian café. As a result, it's much more of a background album than a foreground album. Not riveting but pleasant

I cheated and looked at what some others of you had written and with full credit I'll paraphrase the top comment: "this is like high-class on-hold music." I definitely expect an abrupt interruption any time with "...you are caller number....THIRTEEN.... do *not* hang up....." Very nice background music to work to. Very pleasant. Not much more than that. 5/10 3 stars.

Tango with a jazzy twist. Never would have guessed they were French!

it's pleasant enough. sort of background music, for some kind of overpriced beach bar?

Groovy and relaxing so far, a little jazzy and spicy. Not too bad so far, enjoying it. Yeah, this one was cool. Nice working music, probably could give it another listen and enjoy it more. 👍

There’s something in those croissants. I swear. This is a pretty fun dance record honestly. I’m not sure how often I’ll be revisiting it, but still a good time.

Lounge, lounge, lounge. All a bit samey after the intrigue of a squeezebox wore off.

Listenable and one track that is often featured on chillout mixes it I wouldn’t choose to listen to it. Harmless enough for a 3*

Vel pródúcerað og þægilegt til hlustunar, áhugaverð blanda af harmoníku og beatum. En þetta kallar ekki á mig.

To quote the top review of this album: 'It's like high quality phone hold music' Can't believe I'd actually heard Época before, must be from a 2003 car insurance advert. I imagine it twins well with relaxing on a balcony, supping your morning brew overlooking the Mediterranean.

Let me tell you about the early 00's kids. You couldn't stand on a line at Starbucks without hearing this. It was so trendy, you pulled the 'Free iTunes Download Card' from the sugar station and downloaded it onto your iPod. It was so good you bought tons of Pepsi products to get the better-than-cash-iTunes-codes to download the rest of the album. Or you got it on Napster and never listened to it again. Anyways, a different perspective on the retro-techno-trend. 3/5.

pretty good

Was okay, knew some of this from ads.

Some good tunes in here. I definitely recognise track 2 for somewhere (maybe a car advert?)

Pretty good, 3*

Who needs an annoying, cheeky review? 3 stars.

After hearing Buena Vista Social Club I did say I was excited to hear some more non-English speaking music so hear we are with ‘La Revancha Del Tango’ by Gotan Project, however the issue here is that the majority of tracks are instrumentals so you don’t get the benefit of hearing the vocals. I’ll start with the 2 tracks that included some lyrics, ‘Época’ and ‘Una Música Brutal’, the former of the 2 features some lovely vocals sprinkled throughout the track whilst the instrumental is led by what I can only guess to be some sort of accordion/harmonica or maybe even a keyboard, chirping in the background. It’s quite a slow moving track but it gives you the feeling of being in a spy/action movie which is unique. The 2nd song of the 2 is lead by that same instrument but now there as some rhythmic drums keeping the track together with some similar vocals to the first track mentioned. The rest of the songs follow a fairly similar instrumental pattern but vary quite a bit in length making up this hour long album, it can really feel like not a lot is happening at times which is disappointing because the sound is very unique. I’m really not sure how often I’ll return to this, I found it interesting but nothing really peaked my interest I can just appreciate the sound that this album is. 3/5

Interesting EDM album, good background music.

Electronica Tango.. A Strange combination, but it works..

Generally liked this OK though it fell into that synth monotony issue, and the electronica component often felt like an overlayer that did not quite integrate.

Kind of one note on style, but sure, I'm glad I listened to it.

5.5/10 buena idea y iwal me gusto pero siento q no va mas lejos q sus generos y cmo q se limita un poco. igual es innovadora la mezcla de generos y no esta ni cerca de ser malo.

Upon first seeing what I was in store for with today's album, I didn't have high hopes for it. I am typically not a fan of electronica at all. The thing that set this out from the rest of the electronica I've heard on this generator is the fact that it is apparently a blend of tango music and French music with electronica overlaid. I was still unsure, but it sounded more appealing than the robot fucking soundtrack that I've been forced to listen to thus far with this genre. What I heard was very weird, but interesting. Violin and accordion music that made you feel like you were sitting in a 5 star French restaurant while a rave went on in it at the same time. All this, and Spanish lyrics, tango underpinnings, and a modern twist. It was so different, but not in a bad way. Overall, for once, not a terrible electronica album. Not something I would gravitate to, but I wouldn't care if it was on either. Favourite songs: Queremos Paz, Santa Maria (del Buen Ayre), El Capitalismo Foraneo, Una Musica Brutal Least favourite songs: Last Tango In Paris, La Del Ruso 3/5

Reminds me of the Secret Agent SOMA FM station I used to listen to. Great background music.

Really good

Groovy and relaxing. Nothing that stood out to me. 3/5

Elevator music.

Meh, it's accordion-laced, laid-back music heavily devalued by extensive sync on film and TV. Reminiscent of Moby for chinstroking hipsters.

Pretty good. Not good enough that I raced out and bought the album, but pretty good.

Agradable

Reminds me of BGM from video game menus and loading screens.

3.0 - World fusion crossed with lounge beats. Music for a Parisian fragrance boutique.

This was fine for background music, but wouldn’t be adding it to my list of favorites. I can see keeping it on hand if you want some unobtrusive tunes at a dinner party or something similar, but I prefer my music to have a deeper connection for me.

This was a nice upbeat background jam for me

Like the best DVD menu music you've ever heard. Barry Adamson makes albums where they're supposed to be soundtracks to movies that don't exist, but I feel this album fits that description far more successfully.

Nice to have on in the background but beyond that I am not sure I'd listen to it on my own.

Fun beats with some fun rhythm

Queremos Paz - 4 stars Epoca - 2 stars Chunga's Revenge - 3 stars Triptico - 1 star Santa Maria (del Buen Ayre) - 2 stars Una Musica Brutal - 1 star El Capitallismo Foraneo - 1 star Last Tango In Paris - 3 stars La Del Ruso - 1 star Vuelvo Al Sur - 1 star

Ça fait vraiment musique d'ambiance jazz bar/lounge en prenant un cocktail fancy avec un cigar. Pas mauvais, mais pas le genre de musique à écouter n'importe quand.

En musique de fond ça fait de mal à personne

v cool. but pretty one note and doesn’t do anything crazy moving or interesting

I was listening to this whilst cooking and it was a pleasant background for the mood I was in. I suspect I wouldn't have found it so pleasurable if I'd been listening intently.

Was a nice listen I guess, but it really wasn't anything special.

Um argentino, um francês e um suíço fazem tango, mas não é tango, é eletrotango. A música é lenta, gostosa, repetitiva.

It's interesting, in the way that if Phish were born and raised in Argentina would be interesting.

Repetitive and unchallenging. Solid background music but nothing more.

This is like quintessential hotel lounge music, but I actually like it. Perfect background music for putting on while doing chores, working, cooking, etc. Glad I was introduced to this band.

This is a jazzy, tango like electronica album with Argentinian and European musicians. The beats are very subtle and fuse French and Argentinian instrumentation well. There is a lot going on in the background as well with interesting melodies and chord changes.

Some cool music in here but not quite to my taste.

Very Euro coffee house with a splash of spanish flare.

Sounds like soundtrack music for like any artsy movie from the 90s. Thats not an entirely bad thing, but it does get kinda old after a few tracks. 3/5

Maria is the famous track. Interesting project, but each track overstays it's welcome - perhaps so that the full Tango dance can be completed? Pleasant enough, but a little boring for a full album.

Thoughtful

Nice background music for a hip bar or restaurant

You’ve been Tango’d.

Credit should be given where credit is due. If I hadn't heard this in early 202, I wouldn't have listened to the Astor Piazzolla Prom in 2002 (it wasn't just Piazzolla, but that's what took me to it, and that's what stuck, and that's why he gets the credit, damnit!), and my life would still be much the poorer. It was a fun album then, different enough to actually be considered a little sophisticated – in much the same way a certain demographic thinks of the Pete Tong Classical "crossover" albums as a little sophisticated – but now feels a little worn. Maybe it was commercial-breaked to death, tarnished by association with the neo-bourgeoisie. I'll be generous. A lot of its afterlife isn't directly its own fault.

It was good not great. One and done.

Top notch background music. When Ainsley opens up her bakery, this will be the first album on.

I wasn't previously familiar with Gotan Project although I had heard Santa Maria (Del Buen Ayre). It reminds me a lot of St Germain (Ludovic Navarre) who is also a French musician. Great album to put on in the background while working, cooking, hanging out...

More interesting than enjoyable. There are some interesting sounds and solid beats to be found but I found myself losing interest quite often. I'd say it was a 2.5 for me, giving a 3 for at least being something new to my ears.

Not my thing, background noise only

Here's a bit of a quirky one. Supposedly an electronic album, but it's got an undeniable South American flair to it, apparently they are going for Argentinian tango music. Without looking it up, I'm taking the title to maybe be "the revenge of Tango"? I definitely enjoyed a few songs on here, though some ran on for a bit too long. Not as focused or impactful as some of the Latin jazz-y albums we've had so far, but still a fun listen. Favorite tracks: Chunga's Revenge, Triptico, La del Ruso. Album art: A chest with the band name tattooed on. I mean technically there's a level of creativity to that, but it's really boring. 3.5/5

Nice mix of genres.

Enjoyable electronica. Nice and groovy. Slow builds that never get too big.

A bit too much accordion in this French ambient electronic album. 5/10

Favourite track(s): Chunga's revenge Somewhat hard to pick a favourite. All very danceble, none shining all too bright though. Over time, the tango-typical parts of the instrumentals become a bit tedious. But interesting to hear how a band would approach this genre of Electro Tango. It sounds as if Electro Swing was at least in part inspired by this kind of music. However, this is probably a chicken and egg situation.

groovey oontsy tango good for biking and aligning optics

Music for cafes and tapas bars. It was hard to go out in the last 20 years and not hear Epoca playing somewhere. The album is nicely done but there is an element of sameness to all the songs, though that would probably be true of any tango album.

I like this a lot. Definitely on the play list for the future.

Maybe not one of the greatest but I really enjoyed the vibe. Laid back, mainly instrumental, rhythmical and well produced. I'll be listening again.

This rolls along merrily like a peleton on the long straight roads of a flat stage in the TDF.

It’s pleasant when it’s on, but doesn’t really blow me away in any way. Good to just kick back and relax to, but beyond that I don’t see too much. 6/10

Tango - Ambient - Electric sound. New? I don't know, but I like tango. So anyway (5/10) FT: Época, Santa Maria

Tango, electrónica.

Perfect album cover art. Smooth and a little sexy.

Jai aime, un genre de jazz nouveau, cependant cest un peu long. 3

I think it was nice while it was on but really drags on during the later half. Don't get me wrong, these are some excellent bass grooves and I like that they savor every bit of it. I just feel like it could have been streamlined a tad and still have gotten the point across. One of the more satisfying listens through this series.

Alright, though some bits get a bit too repetitive and metronomy for me.

Interesting take on tango - good background music I guess.

this is pretty much peak Hold music as far as I am concerned.

Smoooth stuff, first two songs slap, it's all pretty fun and different. Not quite the diamond standard but very good

Well this was certainly something different and I enjoyed it quite a lot

Some interesting arrangements and beats. Got to love a tango.

Chill tunes. No individual song blew me away, but it was very good to have on in the background as I was reading or working.

It was fine as background music while I cooked. I wouldn't listen to it again.

A fun little album, grooving up tango with some beats. If it’s a project of limited depth, it is at least clearly created with love. And there’s a very special reason I like this album which shall remain private…

Pretty good, but also pretty same-y. I liked it but probably don't need to hear it again. Reminds me of the background parts of Igorrr sort of, when he's being all french-y.

Okay, this is pretty smooth. I like the mix of old-school (jazz patterns, Latin influences) and new (electronic beats). A lot of it blends together for me, and I think it would have benefitted from a shorter run time, but it's something I can see myself come back to. C

Another definition of a 3, perfectly nice to listen to, instantly forgettable. Would be good as a background soundtrack while doing something

Pros: - I really just love moody noir music... and this album feels like it was created out of red wine, cigarettes, a one night stand after a chance meeting in a jazz bar, and the sound of footsteps down a Parisian alley. - Chunga's Revenge - what a name. Love the snare ghost notes that pull the rhythm off-beat. Cons: - It's place on this list is IMO debatable. It's a very cool overall sound but I wonder what albums aren't on this list that this album has taken the place of. Misc:

Instrumental grooves and chill Latin beats

Agradable.3.

Perfectly good background music. I'd hardly call it an essential album though.

I didn't love it, but this is the kind of thing that makes this list worth it. Discover new bands, new songs, new ways of thinking in music. Listening to this kind of "pop tango" was very surprising and also a good experience.

nice unstrumental album, doesn't become boring and is quite diverse

kjhkjh

Good album

This was very easy to listen to; it was perfect for both background music and active listening! It reminds me of more upbeat elevator music, and I LOVED the latin flair. Now I am wondering, if someone is going to play "elevator music" in an actual elevator, why they would settle for anything less than this. I didn't feel like I needed to try to understand the occasional, minimal lyrics; they felt more atmospheric than anything and added a nice vibe. This album was a nice surprise!

-"Chunga's Revenge" is a cover of the Frank Zappa song, but I could barely tell lol -"Tríptico" has this cool backing groove going on. Very chill, but stuff's going on enough to make it interesting, and it picks up as the song goes on. -I like the intense, syncopated motif in "Una Música Brutal" -"Last Tango in Paris" has like a cool funky groove and a classic French song overlaid on top of each other -"La Del Ruso" has a cool swoosh sound in it and great groove throughout -Very strong 3, but nothing crazy to really pull me back to it, but incredibly solid music

Pretty fun blend of styles

Long, instrumental, sticks to one idea but does it well. Great background music for working.

Better than expected, actually quite nice background music.

Buen disco. Interesante

Endnu et instrumentalt album med lange ensformige numre... Men nu på spansk

Very good vibe. Nice french beats, reminds me of a chill version of basement jaxx, just because of the cover. Its a little much sometimes with the solo violin or french harmonica. They can cut your ears at times. A 3 to mee.
