Might have to give a second listen. The bassist, Lou Barlow, is also part of Dinosaur Jr., Folk Implosion, and New Folk Implosion, which are all great bands. 2.5/5
Was it just me or did the production quality degrade as the album progressed?
It sounded like pre-grunge, punk at times. Guitars sounded out of tune, likely in purpose. There was a lot of screaming on some songs. I can hear a lot on this album that many bands may have been influenced by. I didn't particularly enjoy it
what’s this one fall under, grunge? post-punk? Grating.
"Look, we're so alternative and so edgy!!!" .... Why on earth is this particular album one of the 1001 album I have to listen to before I die?!? 1.5/5
Sebadoh is kind of like Pavement. I know they are out there, I know people love to listen to it, but mostly it doesn't do it for me. I always feel like I must be missing something, and indeed sometimes a band will suddenly contextualize for me, so I'll just say, I'm not quite ready for Sebadoh if this album is representative.
I first heard Sebadoh through "On Fire," probably around 2005. At the time, I didn't know that the song was nearly 10 years old. At the time, I didn't seek out more Sebadoh. But I don't know why. Because "On Fire" is an outstanding song. But I never would have guessed that they had been around since 1986. I never knew about their connection to Dinosaur Jr. or their place in the late 80s lo-fi scene. I also never would have expected them to make the 1001 list, and I never would have expected said album to be so disappointing. Nothing on "Bubble and Scrape" rises to the heights of "On Fire." After two solid songs to start the album, "Telecosmic Alchemy" was excessively dissonant and obnoxious. Was that the point? If it wasn't the point, the point was lost on me. If it was the point, the point was lost on me. The alchemical disaster that was tracks 3 and 4 luckily didn't last, and they got back to some fuzzed out excellence. But the album continued to be way too uneven. Did they just record everything they came up with? And always go with the first take? Maybe that raw DIY sound is a hallmark of lo-fi, but there was just too much mess on "Bubble and Scrape" for me. After I finished the album, and went back for second tries on a few parts, I sought out "On Fire," and it was every bit as good as I remembered. And this album's follow-ups "Bakesale" and "Harmacy" are both pretty terrific. I think they still maintain their core sound, but it's cleaner and more polished and feels like there was someone there helping edit their include-everything impulses. They both still have a crazy number of tracks and include some short weirder ones, but they're not as jarring as on "Bubble and Scrape." Apparently "B & S" started a shift for Sebadoh away from their original acoustic, home-recorded sound. Maybe they were just figuring out a new style. What came later was much better. I'll have to check out their early acoustic work. But I won't be coming back to "Bubble and Scrape."
This album is erratic and unorganized as evidenced by the subdued Think (Let Tomorrow Bee) followed immediately by the screamy Flood.
a couple of good tunes but not a good album
It was alright
So boring.
Unoriginal 90s grunge
Wow that was not a good album. It had one or two good songs, but by the end I just had bad listening fatigue. I didn't hate it enough to give it a 1 so 2 it is.
punk/grunge bleh
I didn't know these artists. But it's not the kind of music I like, sorry.
Not great.
Massively bland.
Hmmm Lo-Fi at it's finest? I can see some credit in this but a little to downside for me, I need to be invigorated by music and at times this makes me go "Yeah you're right, Life is shit" I liked the opener "Soul and Fire" and "Sisteen" But can't really understand why this one is on the list.
I'm not real sure about this one. I don't mind the "sloppy" indie-punk vibe when it's done well, but I can't tell if this is sloppy on purpose or if they really just aren't good musicians. The album seemed disconnected as well. It's like they couldn't decide if they wanted to be Nirvana, or the Cure, or Radiohead. Still, there were some bright spots. I really enjoyed "Happily Divided" and "Think" - so it wasn't a horrible experience.
Kind of good at times but not really.
This was definitely a major meh for me. I didn't find it memorably great or terrible. It wasn't unlistenable, but generally I didn't enjoy it. Exceptions are my fave tracks: "Two Years Two Days" and "Elixir is Zog". Some fun sounds in there, but I just don't really get the appeal of this one. Decent guitar, okay vocals, but not my style. At least mercifully short.
Nothing new for me. A little boring ...
Leuke stem. Daar wil ik het maar bij houden.
Quite alright
OK. I thought Sebadoh was somebody different, not punk rock. Haven't listened to too much of this before. Some of it works, but most of it seems very dissonant and tough to digest. Like shoe leather, I assume.
When it's not boring, it's irritating. A few decent tracks hidden in a bloated tracklist full of filler.
Eh
It was alright but I don't think it really clicked for me. It seems like it lost it's way somewhere in the middle.
generic american indie
There were tracks that I could listen to and enjoy and then there others that I had to just skip through. There were some tracks that had a snow patrol sound to them, about 10 years before snow patrol were known of. Not one I would listen to again, didn’t enjoy it
Boring
thought I'd like it more
Not a band or album I have heard of. Wasn’t sure to begin with on this album. But by the end it did grow on me, a few more listens and I might give a higher score but doubt I’ll get time to go back to this one. I think that will be the case with a lot of these earlier American indie rock records.
Demonstrates a great use of guitar. I personally did not enjoy this album.
Listened to it once - was mitigated. Listened to it twice - confirmed it's a bit garbage.
2/5 in the end, it wasn't particularly good.
Blech. Not my favorite.
The first song shows some promise but soon the acoustic, more melodic numbers end and more-aggressive in-your-face Black Flag style shouty and irritating post-punk begins, only to return to acoustic numbers a few songs later. Turns out they have three song-writers, who don't collaborate, and spread their material throughout the album equally. Anyway I'm not sure what this 93 release adds to the arc of the last 60 years of music. I guess "low-fi" is one of the 1001 genres and it has to be represented.
So the first couple of tracks i'm like "wow this is the kind of lo-fi grunge I could have gone for when I was 14" but then it rapidly descends like they've run out of idea, money and hope with 'Fantastic Disaster' an absolute disaster.
I like some later Sebadoh but I find much of this album annoying (and it seems intentionally so). Says it was their first album recorded entirely in a professional studio. Sure doesn't sound like it to my ear.
Each song started okay and then I didn't like it, about 1 minute mark on average.
meh.
Lofi 90s guitar, sloppy vocals. I could see being into this as a young teen when it was new. Doesn't offer anything now.
Eh. Is okay.
There were a couple of tracks that I really liked, but I can't get over the rest of the noise and intentional discord.
1 1/2
Not really my jam. Some stuff was alright, but most of it was weird.
This is very bland in its composition. A long album of all the same song really.
Meh
terrible
Not into it
Some of the American angst type songs were half decent but still too whiny for my taste. The heavier ones were a din.
The lo-fi indie moments are really good the shouty moments are not.
Not for me.
Angsty, American, Teen Rock. Like a cross between Nirvana and Green Day but nowhere near as good as either. Reminds me of every kooky, offbeat, coming of age movie of the late 90s/early 00s.
Weak indie. Like jets to brazil but with no energy
pretty rough 1.5
Nothing very compelling. Liked the first song and that was it, even after two listens
Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Soul And Fire, Two Years Two Days, Emma Get Wild, Homemade Cutting Edge: Cliche, Forced Love, Bouquet For A Siren Overall Notes: This album had little bits that were really good, whether that be the lyrics, guitar, or melody, but could never keep the momentum going for more than a song or two, let alone the full album. Felt like they took the DIY aesthetics of the Violent Femmes and took it too far. I'm sure there are tons of people who love this, but I'm not one of them.
idk lofi pop grunge doesnt do it for me. little too whiny
Fine. Might listen again but didn’t feel particularly seminal. Minus one point for the shouty numbers
I listened to a bit of the album. Enough to give it a 2
Dull indie that doesn't really go anywhere. A couple of decent tracks save it from a 1 but pretty forgettable. 2/5
After the first track I thought I would enjoy this, however, the off-key vocals and discordant music did not make for a pleasant listen.
Visceral energy mixed with lo fi angst. A sign of those times. It is just that the band did better than this, and also lotta bands did better that year
Very noisy and discordant for the most part.
That album cover is definitely a butthole. Some of these melodies were enjoyable. Let Tomorrow Bee is a standout. Otherwise I found a lot of this to be mildly unpleasant. I think if you're in the right mood you could love this album.
Seems like basically every generic indie band from that era.
Punk. Randomness
Eh. Interesting listen to see the evolution of post-punk to emo but not my cup of tea
Folk Jam, but not at it's finest.
Nah
Not really my style.
no thoughts head empty on this one
Closer to a 2.5. Some songs were pretty good, and its definitley not borring, but it seems like a generally worse version of Slanted and Enchanted (which Im already not a huge fan of).
Like the lemonheads without the tunes, like sonic youth without the nuance... rubbish guitar riffs played on practice amps. Not for me Jeff!

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
What an absolute slog of an album. It started off bad and then just got worse. I didn’t like the off-key singing, the mixing of the songs or just the songs in general. Sounded like a bad meandering demo. Grungy, pretentious and just not good. 1 star.
This album started as a lazy uninspired rip off of a 90s band playing in a frat basement on a cold January night. Then after a few songs, it got worse. The vocals were well below average, the chord progressions were obvious and dull, and then there were the lyrics. I hope these guys find stable relationships soon so that they can stop whining to us about it song after song. And the final slap in the face? They impose 32 songs on us in this album. You almost have to admire their blind unearned confidence. 32…
This started off with a couple of alright songs and then descended into a discordant collection of noise and mumbles lyrics.
This is really really terrible.
Why is this album SO LONG. Fav song is ‘Elixir is Zog’.
Loved some songs and skipped others. I like the general vibe when it doesn’t get super discordant. I liked songs like “Soul And Fire” and “Happily Divided”—these gave me a little Weezer/Modest Mouse energy and that general more chill vibe that I can tell is a father of surfer/punk rock that came after.
Fantastic Disaster - horrible - yelling. Sister - same Elixir is Zog - garbage Album is pretty much a pile of dogtrot
# Album Name: Bubble And Scrape # Artist: Sebadoh # Rating: 1/5 # Comments: First song is decent. The rest is a bag of shit. Was this really the same label nirvana was signed to? # Top Tunes: # Would I listen to it again? No
This album doesn’t belong in the list either! It sounded like they were trying to sound like the violent femmes or the B52s and doing a bad job. I was thinking how I’d rather be listening to those bands instead lol.
Lots of different styles here. But each attempt at creativity fails, for me. Sounds like a generic local band where the members each like different musical styles but agree to play their bandmates’ music so that everyone will agree to play in their style one time. For example, there’s the short Death Metal piece to upset any groove that was being created. A 1.
Not really sure what this is supposed to be - it really didn’t speak to me. A bit of an uninspiring mess.
Just another album in the continued trend of everything post 1990 being mediocre at best. Except OutKast… that album slapped
I was confused the whole time. It felt like scanning radio channels. I have no idea what they were going for. The have decent skill, but I didn’t get it at all.
sigh, did not pull a memorable or commendable album today
Too messy, don’t have any rhythm.
What a load of rubbish: I had to stop the album mid-play, for the first time in the challenge. Wrong notes, out-of-tune chords, inconsistent timing on top of the already poor drumming: someone’s deliberately trying to sound wrong and ugly here, perhaps in some sort of belated punk attitude. A sound straight out of the rehearsal room, completely amateurish, but lacking in charm and originality. I’m too old for this kind of rubbish.
There are a few tracks that somewhat resemble actual songs but most of this is just half baked ideas of musical expression over repetitive guitar notes and barely competent drumming. Just the kind of weird shit Pitchfork gives a 9+ review to but this is not for me
Another album which shouldn't have made the cut.
It started off kind of boring but not horrible, then it switched to horrible. I have an alternative listening suggestion if we're exploring bands that emerged in the early 90s. Tool is not on this list. I have to ask why Sebadoh and not Tool? Musicality and influence vs. whatever grunge ripoff this album was.
Would rather listen to white noise.
dull, dull, dull, about as interesting as a dishcloth, gave up after track 4
mmm no
Not for me
Meh
Jesus wept. That was shit.
I didn't enjoy anything about this, except maybe it ending. It wasn't even interesting enough to rant about really. Boring and tedious, it tried hard and failed.
No
Willingly making your album sound like crap as an artistic statement still makes your album sound like crap.
This is up there with the worst so far. A tough listen. The first track promised inoffensive but dull grungy rock but it went downhill and subsequently lost all tunefulness and what little charm it started with. The main issues are threefold: firstly, the songs just aren't good - it sounds like a distinctly average college band who make noise for the sake of it. Second, his voice. It's two-dimensional and very boring. Third, the lyrics of 'Homemade' gave me the biggest ick. Hard no
++: Telecosmic Alchemy, Fantastic Disaster +: Soul and Fire, Emma Get Wild, No Way Out, Bouquet for a Siren, Flood +-: Two Years Two Days, Sacred Attention, Elixir Is Zog, Sixteen -: Happily Divided, Sister, Cliche, Homemade, Forced Love --: Think (Let Tomorrow Bee) 2,8/10
Interesting sound but found it hard to listen too. Bland vocals sometimes but cool instrumentals. Not for me.
streng of een slechte dag?
Did not interest me at all
Really stretching the term of "influential"
There’s one decent song, which is the first, and that’s it. I was waiting to get his mind-numbing album over with.
annoying
- I really don't want to hear about this guy's failing relationship(s)... at all. So boring and whiny and just makes me feel like he's clearly the problem. I wouldn't want to have to try to keep a conversation going with him. Here's my psychoanalysis - dude, you don't really like women, you just want women to make you feel good about yourself. Go figure your shit out. Imagine having dated this guy and then having to hear this album and knowing it exists forever... The lyrics just made me feel a whole lot of secondhand embarrassment. - The music is a slog - too much dissonance and angst to wade through. I hate the out of tune vocals from whiny singing voices. Ugh. - I barely noticed the instrumentation - it all just kind of blended together in either boring plodding or yelling over everything at once fuzz. Nothing memorable in this music, and definitely no catchy melodies. - Cliche and Sacred Attention were okay, I guess. - Despite the short songs, this went on forever (like that relationship probably felt like it did).
This just… wasn’t good. Were they purposefully out of tune?
Too many reminders of Snow Patrol in here
A hard listen.
Sometimes I just have to say, nah man, I'm good.
So disorganised and chaotic, poorly performed whilst still being boring. Its like what Nirvanna/Cobain were criticised as being.
Way too long. This album didn’t hit my ears right at all, instruments were so discordant that it became unbearable to listen to at points. I got as far as “happily divided”, checked where I was and almost cried. I then stopped listening so if it happened to get way better after this point then I am sorry.
Quite crap to be honest
This is really fucking stupid.
😒
afgrijsloos
Warm, lightly scrappy indie-folk/lo-fi grooves built from gently picked or fuzz-scuffed guitars, wobbling bass, uneven percussion, and muttered, homespun vocals, which feels charming in its handmade roughness but so meandering and faint that you’re fast to lose interest as it drifts out of focus.
Nope. Fucking awful.
Not my cup of tea.
Rubbish
I found this mostly unpleasant to sit through. Had to take breaks because I wasn’t enjoying it at all. 1/5
It's like a Guided By Voices album without the charm or great songs. So you're just left with mediocrity. I'm giving this a 1. 90's indie rock trash.
I hadn’t heard of Sebadoh, now I know why. My two year old grandson could do better. I’ve consigned this album to my try to forget file, absolute garbage.
God, this is annoying. Why do people put it on this list? Sounds like some kids got their parents instruments and recorded this is in their basement
First two songs weren't bad, but what the hell happened after? Hard listen
Why do we need to listen to this?
Least said.....
No - I didn't need to hear that before ... anything!
It puzzles me how much American indie bands sound alike.
I remember a couple of tracks off this album - dreary and depressing - the others too angry to finish listening to
Weder mol so es typisches Noise Rock albom, wie In Utero vo nirvana scho gse esch. Scho das esch e ned so positivi Predestination för mini Bewärtig. Das chond halt, wemmer probiert möglechst luut z si ond eintersiits alli mögleche Intromänt eifach of einisch spelt, sondern die au so komplett öberstüret (siehe Rockgitarre), dass es au rächt schräg tönt. Eigentlech cha so e öberstüüreti Rockgitarre jo au no cool töne, de mues sie aber gezielt gsetzt si, wasi do öberhaupt ned de Idrock gha ha. Das ganze dörenand werd i dem Albom de no met rächte Dissonanze kombiniert. So tönts de eifach e chli chrom. Wels de halt ned so spannend esch, fods sech au rächt afo zieh. Mer cha also säge s potenzial wär do met de riffs ond de abgstommeheit, wärs ned so luut ond so dissonant dass alles weder im Chaos wörd ertrenke.
Me parecen mezclas caóticas que no me despiertan nada positivo
Did not care for this in the least.
I’d rather listen to a rabid raccoon slowly dying in a clothes dryer than that album ever again.
Typical alternative/rock band. All songs sound alike. Kinda boring.
Uhh. Early grunge and industrial. Hard listen. Not for me and unplugged electric guitar is a difficult sound to pull off. NMH did it so much better.
Fine wouldn't listen again. 1.6/10
Mhe ni fu ni fa
The first track was okay. Everything else after that was awful.
Not for me
Not a fan
Unlistenable.
Boring for me, not my style Favourite song: Soul and Fire
I love Dinosaur Jr. I like other Sebadoh albums. I hate this. 1/5
No
Nah.
Bland and poor. Limp indie guitar rock. Puny production. Forgettable songs and base level musicality. I have no idea why this record made this list.
Who is this for lol. The instrumentals are decent, everything else is just too pitchy and noisy for my taste.
I really didn't like this one. There was metal elements I don't enjoy and I felt it sounded too chaotic and discordant at times.
Sigh. Mediocrity wrapped in pretension. Sounds like Frank Zappa if Zappa had a brain injury and forgot how to compose and arrange. Or it can sound like slayer on Xanax. That sounds much better than this relentless tripe. And I’ve nothing against stupid lyrics. But Jesus. ‘Don’t bite me on the arm/ Capricorn rising. ‘ it’s hardly Dylan. Or Jimmy Webb. Or Bernie Taupin. This is brain damaged stupidity. It needs help. Maybe an operation. It’s Boston without the sense of joy. (And Boston is the most joyless band I’ve heard). It’s Zappa without talent. It’s a random selection of nothing hiding behind ‘art’. But we can see the F that belongs on the front of 'Art’ and we can smell it too. 1.5 stars. It gets .5 for the audacity of it. But Minus 1 for the execution. So it’s .5.
This album kinda sucked. Some half-decent songs. Drumming was the best part, but nothing special.
Not for me. Didn’t finish - couldn’t do a full hour of this
Off the bat, they sound like a poor man's Soundgarden or Stone Temple Pilots or insert your favorite 90s grunge alt rock band here. 4 songs through and this just sounds terrible. Telecosmic Alchemy has bad singing and disjointed instrumentals. Fantastic Disaster was a too-on-the-nose name for that song. Everything sounds like it was recorded inside a tin can. 8 songs in and finally a normal sounding song in Sacred Attention. Vocals still suck but at least we have coherent music that jams. There were some songs in the 2nd half that were tolerable like Forced Love and Think, but the bar was so low by that point that average songs like those sounded good. This shit sucked. How did this make the cut? 1 star.
Tough listen. No redeeming qualities for me
Average 90s indie shoegaze feel sorry for myself songs. If I saw them at a festival back then it would’ve inspired me to go get a beer. From Sacred Attention onward they at least show a little bit of energy. Detuning your guitar does not make you automatically interesting. This is like if Pavement stopped giving a shit but got a record deal anyway
Kinda boring
I am displeased to say the least. You mean to tell me this no-man’s-land earbomb of an album deserves its day in the sun? This isn’t charming diy indie, this isn’t a challenge to the listener. Songs 2-4 specifically are just messy. “Happily Divided” is at least something, even though it lives under Nirvanas shadow, both for sounding a lot like it’s making an attempt to sound like Kurt Cobain, and for this being a sub pop release. That gives me a solid reason to be a homer and give this album SOME sort of bias. I found no such reason to do so. This album has an idea of what it wants to be, and has moments of completeness. Lots of intros, like on “Emma Get Wild” give me a vague sense of hope, just for some sloppy vocals and quick-to-stale melodies nosedive it all. I can’t really pick a whole song as a highlight for me. Maybe the halfway point of “Homemade”, having some success actually sounding like proper indie/grunge for a moment. Is this a snapshot of a musical time & place? Sure. Is it worthy of taking a spot on this list over [literally insert your missed album of choice here]? Cmooooon.
Ugh. No thanks.
Aggressively amateurish, at times comically bad, at best hopelessly generic.
It was pretty boring. Nothing much to write about.
"Soul and Fire" +1
Not my cup of tea.
Another 90s lo-fi indie rock album that this list seems to love. There's some elements to note - the first few tracks have a few interesting guitar work. Everything else, though, is just banal vocals and experimentation that goes so far as so it is trying too hard. Best Tracks: N/A Worst Tracks: - Fantastic Disaster - Telecosmic Alchemy Rating: 2/10
mega ikke for mig. Jeg ventede på at den blev færdig
This sounded so bad. I really really hated it.
Boring noise
Horrible
Jesus, these guys have 9 albums! I couldn’t get all the way through 3 songs before tapping out - aural arm bar for the submission. The pain…
Make it stop
I have never heard a song worse than Elixer is Zog and I never will. Every second of this was pure torture.
To whomever wrote in their review: "...Intentionally dissonant poverty tier indie rock..." - I love you. Vindicating all my memories of the worst tendencies of the cynicism of my generation and the lack-of-effort 90s SUPER COOL INDIE SCENE! This is dogshit, and intentional dogshit. They're insulting you. Fking slacker rock. I hate this band. 0/10 0 stars.
1/5
I believe that if an album is going to be listed as one of the 1,001 it should meet some minimum standards. It should be a quality recording. It should have excellent production. The musicians should be competent and the song writing should have some aesthetic qualities. Does an album have to have all of these attributes? Not necessarily. Sometimes a recording is done in such a way to try to capture, say, the band live foregoing what we would typically think of uus "quality". Likewise, an album doesn't have to have the production value and perfectionism of, fore example, Steely Dan or Boston. Musicianship can be a tricky one. Was Kurt Cobain a great guitarist in the same echelon as Les Paul, B.B King or Eric Clapton? No, but he knew his limitations and worked within them to produce something unique. He had competency and then some. Lastly while aesthetics are often in the eye of the beholder, there is usually something about a song that draws the listener in and makes a connection with them. It might be a lyric or a theme or an energy. But there has to be something. Almost all the albums that I’ve heard so far meet the standards I listed above. Perhaps the album has all of these qualities. Perhaps it only has some of them. This album, however, has none of those qualities in my opinion. The songs are monotonous and discordant. The vocals are weak. Musically, the album is just cacophonous. It reminds me of a bunch of guys that got together in high school and learned to play their instruments in their garage or basement. They’re not good enough to do cover songs so they wrote their own material and bang their way through it with what barely passes as musicianship. Then they bought an inexpensive recording device off Alibaba and created a overly saturated demo that they sent to the local radio and cable stations in an effort to try to get a record deal. While they did get that deal, it doesn’t mean they are very good or that the material is very good. It’s simply gives the rest of us talentless hacks hope as we dream to someday play in a band.
I tried. Someone said if Beck fell down the stairs. Early grunge, proto punk?
"how hard could harmonizing be?": The Album. Bad, just bad and annoying all around. If a hallmark of the genre is sounding bad on purpose then maybe its just not good?
Whatever this is it ain't for me. REM but bad.
1 star. Didn’t even make it through the album.
1.5
Probably the less said the better. I really gritted to get through this one. The low-fi 90s bands are all overrated in my opinion. Don't you want to have fun when listening to music? I'm either not fooled or I just don't get it. Really could go either way. Anyway, I never really want to hear this again.
Yeah this is bad. Nirvana if they sucked, Mount Erie if he sucked, sounds like they blended all of their instruments together along with some guy's whiny voice and poured it into an album. Yuck Fav Songs: None
Not my taste at all
not good
Utter, utter shite! Everything about this is utter shite! If I could give it zero stars I would.
Could not get into this
How is this an album you need to listen to before you die. Proper shit.
telecosmic academy might be the worst song I've ever heard never mind the rest of the album from here is also terrible. at least all the songs are quite short so you get a different kind of terrible every couple of minutes. No way out is SHITE A solid 1.5. Whether it gets rated 1 or 2 is solely based on how much I liked the last song. It's a 1!
These guys suuuuuuuuck
Just sounds like harsh noise to me
Didn't enjoy it much.
Scraping the bottom of the bubble barrel. Lazy and shite.
Awful
Not sure I understand the appeal
Depressing Indie-Rock, the opening track "Soul and Fire" sets the mood for the rest of the album unfortunately. There's nothing fantastic about the track "Fantastic Disaster", but it is a disaster.
Pre-listening thoughts: I feel like we’ve been getting a lot of 90s lately. Also an American band - maybe it’ll be different than the sea of brit pop? Post/during listening thoughts: 17 songs is a lot. My perfect album length is 8-15 songs. I think if you’re over that you have things to cut. Woof this is already boring I’m sorry. Distorted guitar and vocals that seem to drone without expression or liveliness. The mixing is dookie. Wow this isn’t just boring it’s straight up terrible! This is the sort of music Mordecai from Regular Show would listen to (also lead singer sounds a little like him imo). Pretty standard indie rock (I am an indie rock hater) 1/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no. Like why does stuff like this make the list. What makes it so special that I HAVE to hear it. Fav tracks: Happily Divided Least fav tracks: literally all of them (besides any listed in favorites, those are tolerable). I cannot stand this. First two tracks were not the worst but it gets SO MUCH WORSE from there. Convinced people who enjoy this don’t actually like music sorry.
This band sounds like a bunch of 14 year old boys in a garage. The singing and the instruments are frequently out of tune. Much of this album was painful to listen to due to this. I can handle punk style screaming but maybe not in a key that clashes with the guitars. You must listen to this before you die to know that you too, no matter how tone deaf you are, can make an album.
1.5 ok-ish nonsense with some of the worst guitar tones possible
Bubble and Scrape starts off nicely enough with Soul And Fire, a decent indie style tune with some familiar sounds and elements that made me think of a dozen groups that came along later and did similar. Unfortunately, almost everything that comes after that is a mess of out of tune music, terrible singing, misused instruments, all thrown together and excused as lo-fi experimentalism. Happily Divided is the only tolerable song outside of the opener, this doesn't deserve any more than a 1.
get a job 2/10
3.36 rym chitarrino indie di merda individuato mi annoio terribilmente 1/5

Holy crap whoever put that on a list of any kind was straight smoking crack. If that's music then I'm Prince. This was so bad, the idea that anybody has ever listened to it is ridiculous, and the spins on spotify are proof of this.
1993 alternative. I don’t think they know what lane they’re in. The description says lo-fi folk. It’s not that.
Never heard of this band or heard this album. Bad songwriting performed by bad musicians. Completely forgettable. "There's no need to say a word"
Not for me.
good but not 1001 good first track fav
Just read the band name in Homer Simpson's voice, and you've about summed it up.
Not for me.
erittäin tylsä 46 minuuttia pitkä joka tuntui parilta tunnilta , hlyhytitä biisejä jotka tuntuivat 5+minuuttisilta kaikki. täysin turha listallaolija, verorahoilla maksettaan tälläset listalla ja ei mitään saa takaisin.. kadulle mars.. ehkä kaksi kuunneltavaa biisiä yhteensä seitsemästätoista, ei oikeen voi mitään positiivista tästä puhua, kirjotanpa vaan tekstiä kun muutama rivi kaikissa muissakin arvosteluissa... täytettä turhaan, sokeria sokeria pumppaa pumppaa pumppaa pumppaa sacred attention
I kept waiting in hope that I’d like one of the songs, I’m afraid that never happened. I’d never heard of these guys before and I think that’s for a very good reason.
I hate this kind of music. An absolute mess. Garbage mixing, weak ass vocals, meh lyrics, an all around bad experience. Truly a terrible album, which I certainly did not need to listen to. Why is this on the list? There are millions of better albums then this. Disappointing.
trash trash trash trash 1 star
what a load of shit...
Not for me-repetitive and blah
This started strong but on track four, "Fantastic Disaster" (well, they got the title half right) everything dramatically fell apart and never came back together. It's a mess. The whole album is a mess. There's nothing redeeming here, sadly.
On the plus side, this is one of the few albums of the 1001 that I haven't heard before. On the downside, it sucks. Sebadoh sounds to me like they wanted to be a grunge band but they just couldn't figure out the bite that Nirvana or Soundgarden did, and they also couldn't figure out how to be as interesting or introspective as Sonic Youth or other similar bands from the era... AKA Sebadoh suck. A few of their other albums are tolerable, and I thought this was going to be the same way based on the first track, but it was all downhill from there. Garbage album, absolutely should not be included on this list.
Massachusetts grunge? I don’t think so. Didn’t finish
Not my taste
I did enjoy this album, but for my personal taste Wilco is where I’m at.
started off fairly inoffensive middle of the road indie, track 3 was unlistenable and from there it just got worse and worse
This group was popular when I was young, but I never really caught on. Listening to it, now, I'm even less impressed. It sounds like college kids trying to be rebellious or moody or rock. Not very genuine nor melodic.
Yeah, nah! 🥲🥲🥲
It's clear that the band tried to create a garage rock vibe, but in some instances, it felt like they ended up with "garbage" instead. While their grunge and indie influences shine through, there are moments when the lo-fi experimentation pushes the boundaries a bit too far, rendering some songs nearly inaudible. It's a shame because there are undoubtedly some hidden gems that echo Nirvana or Pavement within the album that could have shone brighter with a cleaner production. A big 1 for the inaudibles ones.
not for me - name so unpleasant
Not a fan.
So this guy lost creative control of Dinosaur Jr, made his own band, and then was kicked out of DJ. He should have stuck to playing bass in a decent band. Best track: Not found
Didnt do it for me but better than terrible
gross

There was maybe one song on this album I liked. The rest was boring at best, complete rubbish at worst.
Not my cup of tea
I was just kinda bored and/or annoyed the whole time. I'm having a hard time thinking about the few moments I may have enjoyed because all I can remember are the parts I cringed at. If I had to choose a track to re-listen to, I might choose Homemade
I dislike this very much. 1.5/5
Ugh. Setting aside the bland first couple of songs that I was merely not enjoying, suddenly there were several songs in a row that were assaulting my ear. This album seemed to vacillate between the bleh and the horrible
I never need to listen to this again. Cliché was the only song worth anything. If I could give this zero stars I would, honestly. So much ugly.
Turned off when the harmonica came in. wtf
Nope.
Eh.
Not good
Didn't really care for this one
Yeahnah, not for me. Every time I thought I was getting a normal track, they did something jarring and weird. Fav new track: Think (Let Tomorrow Bee)
Not for me. Don't hate it, some might like it but not me.
The album got worse as it went on. It is not good. No need to listen.
eh
couldn't get in the mood for this album, was a drag for me personally
Satarts well, but when the trashy tracks arrived, I lost interest
