Reviews (page 6 of 7)
There are signs of a great album to come. But for now, it's mostly uninspiring rock music.
I really like the beats and music in about half the album, but the song/melodies are bland at best and some more excessive parts drag this album down for me. Feel like there is talent and potential here but not much more than that. Sound feels very 60's and ultimately nothing special. I feel like there could be another album from this band that's fantastic, but as it stands I didn't really like any of the songs. It wasn't terrible or anything, but I have no desire to listen again and will probably have forgotten this album in a few days.
Doors rip-offs and a whole side with a bad jam recording.
I didn’t enjoy the shitty doors
Squeaky sound and vibes
Nothing great. It was different but not mindblowing. At least now I know who Madonna ripped off the beautiful stranger song from
Meh.
The vocals ruin this music, otherwise I may have liked this
Orange Skies // Seven and Seven Is // 2.5/5
Sounds like the doors, with the harpsichord or whatever. Also a little too much flute. Guys voice and the flute got pretty annoying, and album ended with an 18 minute song that was not good. I wonder if psychedelic rock is not for me.
A mediocre offering ruined by a terrible side B.
love me some 60's music but this was a miss. Trying to sound like other artists?
Great band, this album was some classic psychedelia and had its moments, but it didn't grab me the way some of Love's biggest hits on Reel to Real and Forever Changes do. The longform jam tracks felt over-indulgent but maybe that's just my bias.
Pretty mid? Wasn't sure what to make of the last track taking up half of the entire album length. Tracks to Track: Que Vida
Yeah. Um. I'm not very familiar with Love. I knew Alone Again Or and that's it. This album starts out with 2 songs I don't like, but are pretty good for their separate genres. Que Vida is a children's song that mentions killing your brother Seven and Seven Is could be a Murphy"s Law song if they came from SoCal and not NYC. Revelation starts out like a Chris Issac Forever Blue era song and quickly deteriorates into a Doors song. I'll probably never listen to this album again
It's like a summary of all the psychedelic tropes that were big in the 60's, but done just poorly enough to be forgetten by everyone, except the compilers of this list apparently.
A bunch of noise.
Turns out I hate Love
Hippie shite
meeh
Artful hippie stuff I guess.
Maybe I’m missing the nuance of the genre but these type of albums are over represented in the list. 2.14
Generally mediocre but the unnecessarily long final track drags this down even further. More to not like than like
I didn’t hate it, but don’t lure me into a false sense of security with tight, under 3-minute tracks from the get go, only to throw a 17min track in at the end.
There are few things that will really put me off an album as much as the phrase "19 minute jam session". I do not understand the mindset that creates a 7 song, 36 minute album but chooses to dedicate 19 of those minutes to the final track. Other than that monstrosity, we got a bit of harpsichord (including a bit of jumpscare harpsichord right at the end) which was my first so far on this project and some perfectly meh songs. 2/5
Odd mix
Not sure why they're here - were they the first psychaledic band? Others have done this better, even if they came later. 2/5
Beat, 1966 -> 2
Bit rubbish
2/5 Not really my type but one chill song
The songs were very chill and a bit meh until the "Seven and Seven Is" song, which seems to have the most listens, where they just turned into a whole different band. Overall, pretty meh stuff, it's alright but not really that great, it just sounds a bit empty. I understand that this is a pretty old album, so given that, this must've been pretty cool back in the day.
At first I was going to give this three starts. It sounded to me like psychedelic rock with a bit of a punky flair to the vocals but ultimately pretty uninteresting and uninspired. I liked that the songs were short and to the point. Then I was subjected to the song Revelation, an almost 20 minute jam sesh that was so self indulgent I had to pause a few times to get through it. Standouts: None for me Rating: 2/5
Immediately forgettable
3/10…psychedelic rock / baroque pop
It was fine, I guess. I don’t think it does anything that others didn’t do better.
Most of the songs had good music, but the singing was just ok. Orange Skies was a breakout hit. The rest was just mediocre. Best song: Orange Skies
Very mid forgettable rock; watered down clone of 60s bands that are actually good
Not my kind of music, sorry! After a sequence of great albums, it was some how difficult for me to go through this. But, as I stated, this is a purely subjective opinion, I'm not into this particular kind of music, this definitely didn't stuck with me
A pretty OK album. It's pretty forgettable outside of that beautiful flue in Orange Skies. Not enough to round it up. 2.4/5 - > 2/5
The music is more interesting than the lyrics and I can see how that could have inspired later artists. I like the rythmic changes and the improv part. The flute is a bit much though.
Good side it is not that long. free forms and jamming … really can’t remember a thing. I prefer jazz when it’s jazz
💔
Another psych rock album, another 2.
Is this our first jazz flute album? I wish the singer could be a little more in tune. The last song go really annoying in parts.
Yeah no thanks I’m good
This one had a few good parts and mostly not good parts. A number of tracks sounded dated to me. Some of the songs were decent, but there were also some that were just bad. Unfortunately for Love, this is about albums as a whole, not just the certain songs on them that are good. I think the album was dragged down by the mellow-ness of certain tracks. When the songs had more bite to them, they were much better. It was also an interesting choice to have the last song be 18+ minutes of jamming. It was an enjoyable jam, but it kinda seemed like they just needed to fill space instead of having a whole album's worth of songs. As a whole, it wasn't great. I don't think there are many situations that I would choose to put this album on and enjoy it all the way through. The couple songs that were good were good though. Overall: 2.25/5
Interesting enough. Would I listen again? Probably not.
I like some thing about this but I also find it very annoying.
Wasn't a huge fan of this one.
I was soooo excited, so happy, so hopeful that this record could finish the tightrope walk that it set out on. The first few songs were unique and defied a lot of the 60’s rock tropes of the time. Thoughtful lyrics about how one death leads to another life, etc. I was particularly a fan of “Orange Skies” for how simple and happy it was - the flute was a nice touch. But it all had to come crashing down eventually. “Revelation” closes the album in such a needless manner. No, this isn’t a noteworthy opus just because it’s over ten minutes and features a bunch of instrumental solos. It’s a bit boring, the looped melody it lulls into is a bit derivative. Who felt the need to do this? I’m having a hard time getting the hype for this record.
60s vibe but there are so many that are better…
This was a tedious listen.
2/5
It’s very earnest, but unfortunately it’s too “Summer of Love” for me - a bit too disjointed and esoteric. I don’t love it. Standout track is: “Revelation”
This one just didn’t do it for me.
Not really my bag anyway but felt like this straddled a halfway house. Semi psychedelic whilst remaining bland, would’ve preferred if they’d pushed the psych further
- tynt gjennomført saxofon - «que vida» var ok. Ikke minneverdig - slutta å høre etter «seven and seven is»
I thought that was a sheep in Revelation
I guess my dad was right. Love is overrated.
An album of some pretty dreadful tracks with a few moments of interest. She Comes In Colors was probably my highlight, and The Castle was my low point. I guess I feel that, for the bits I liked, other artists just did it better. Eg: the last track? No need for 18 minutes - just listen to LA Woman. Flutes? Try Peter Gabriel. Etc.
It got better, but it wasn't good. 2.
This doesn't seem very special or innovative. Apparently it wasn't the group's best album either. Personal enjoyment: 2/5 Relevance to this list: 1/5
interesting that the album had a mono and stereo version within the same album, found that fascinating. I always find 60's psychedelic rock a bit boring, i love the genre 20 years later when it's more effect heavy but it just sounds like rock. nice drumming tho.
2 stars - nothing super exceptional here IMO
Yeah, no. Crunchy hippie psych isnt my bag. Thanks
This was heading for a solid 3, even if just for interest's sake. Then side 2 happened. 2/5.
This was rough! I started off kinda indifferent but by the end, I wanted to turn it off and the last track was nails on chalkboard.
Why have I gotten five Neil Young albums and at least ten albums that sound just like this while doing this project. 1001 albums for the whole globe????? I needed this one???? 1.5
EH
Love is a band (like The Cure) where I like a lot of their songs, but I just can't stand their albums. A couple of good tracks here though.
didnt fuck with that
It wasn’t bad music but I can’t say I honestly enjoyed this album
The band called Love. The glory days when all band names weren’t taken. You could go out there and be the uhhh Eagles or some shit and nobody batted an eye. Did they exist then? Whatever. Everybody say Love, because we’re back in the groovy 60’s, a time where freedom of expression and creativity were encouraged, and a time where all the people who hate those ideals were born. These guys think they’re so cool. Especially the pre-cursor to Han Solo on the cover there. You know they took 5000 shots to get the wistful white guy’s cigarette smoke billowing just right. Interesting jazz fusion. Did I use that genre correctly? Too many things to learn in this wide world. Genre fusions will have to wait until I am financially able to retire. According to extrapolations in current world trends, that appears to be 279 years in the future. Splendid. This is boring. Overblown. Overdramatic. Not for me. Sesame Street interlude. This vocalist ain’t it pal. He sounds like the puppeteer behind “Ernie” not quite doing the voice. ¡Que Morte! FOURTEEN I GOT IT. This one was more fun. Blasting throughout and a cool little solo to finish. I close my eyes. Only for a moment, then the moment’s gone. Oh. We’re not in Kansas anymore. Yeah this backs suffers from shitty vocalist disease. Are you or a loved one suffering with SVD? Do you have an airtight musical ensemble only to be dashed by an egomaniac who believes they can sing? You may be entitled to nothing, please quit or form an instrumental band. There’s too much music. Thank you. I seriously hate the vocals. Ingenious flower child spotted. Even the harpsichord is making me mad. HARPSICHORDS SHOULD NOT ELICIT ANGER. Oh. Wait. Yes they should. THOU HAST BEEN STRICKEN BY THUNDER. Into the long jam. Hey ladies, we did acid once. Now that the mean jokes are out of the way, the yelling is far better than any singing this guy can pull together. Stick there. Nice cool jazz closer as well. This song is a saving grace in many ways. This whole album could’ve just been this. Should’ve, even. This album is interesting in that we listened to Small Faces yesterday. Two psychedelic albums from the same year back to back provided me with some knowledge about myself. Particularly what I enjoy in creative media. This is a perfect display of two distinct types of creatives. The first being people who are fun and expressive and adept at producing odd ideas from the most vibrant parts of a fertile brain (Small Faces). The other type, which “Da Capo” seems to emanate from, are people whose expression is carefully curated to appeal to somebody. I can only imagine that somebody is a liberated woman from the 60’s. I prefer the former. This entire album screams pretentiousness. The vocalist clearly believes he is some mystical flower child or is at least playing that persona to score some chicks. There are some cool moments here and there, especially on the last track, and the influence on The Doors is cool to hear, but overall Da Capo should be called Da Low Ranking Military Officer Who Tries Too Hard And Ultimately Will Never Be Capo. 2 HIGHLIGHTS: Seven and Seven Is, Revelation
It ended strong, but this was not a good album.
Whimsical and weird, but not really my thing
Nothing here that really interests me.
Bad recording , but first half is pretty good. A little too much flute for my taste..
⭐⭐ – – – 1[.9] of 5 stars. For me, this felt like quite the strange mix of folks-y and psychedelic music, it's a kind of experimentation that just didn't resonate or intrigue me. The instrumentals throughout this album are really good, but the vocals are just NOT IT, in my opinion. I really did not like the first track, "Stephanie Knows Who," and the track "Orange Skies" and could've been a nice ballad-y song, until the vocals entered. "7 And 7 Is" is probably the only track where the vocals somewhat fit the song; I kinda like the intensity on that one. I actually really enjoyed some of the instrumental breaks on the final song, but man, those vocals just ruin it. The rest of the album just feels somewhat uneasy to me. Favourites: Orange Skies, Revelation⭐ Dislikes: Stephanie Knows Who, The Castle, She Comes in Colours.
When I was presented with the cover, i had to suppress a groan. Another 60s band where the band poses together, preferable in nature. But I try not to let a cover guide my opinion. Sadly it was just as expected: nothing special. Ive heard so many albums like this so far.
Nothing that I enjoyed.
I was ready to give this a 3 until the last track…and now it gets a 2.
This was coasting to a 3–fine, nothing special, but not bad either—until that last song, which was interminable.

Es ist ja hm ganz okay so ja, und dann ist das letzte Lied einfach 19 Minuten lang
This was an OK album. 60's "psychedelia". Nothing really jumped out at me but I did not hate it. The singer's vocals were a little grating as the album went on. Musicianship was okay too - what I would expect from the time period.
Interesting rhythms Nice lyrics
Boring psyche rock
- kurz aber knackig, gefiel mir okay-ish - 2,25-2,5/5
Not my cup of dated 60's tea..
Re-listened to Forever Changes before this - that's good, albeit maybe slightly overrated. But this..much less so. Was heading for 1* but somehow, someway, I connected a little with the side-long last song that I had been dreading..
Not too bad a of a listen actually. Also nothing to rave about though. Definitely ahead of their time. But there is also no need to make a song that goes for 19 mins especially that bad. last song brought the star count from 3 to 2.
A sort of odd 60's album that I've already forgotten.
Psychedelic rock can be very hit or miss with me. This album is both. Some songs are catchy and I enjoy them. Others are far to out there for me.
Nothing stood out and then the never ending final song sunk whatever meager positive feelings and goodwill the record had managed to generate.
bad to listen to sometimes
Da Capo is rubbish, it's not outright offensive but it's just a whole load of nothing, we've had far too much forgettable 60s psychedelic soft rock on here and almost none of it was worth including. Hard to scrape a 2 from it, maybe just gets there because it's short enough to get through quickly.
Yeah, nothing really to this, gentle psychedelia with nothing that grabs you or differentiates it from the rest of that kind of nonsense we've had. 2/5.
Kind of boring. Not a bad album, just not very interesting. 2/5 Won’t listen again
Very forgettable 60s psychedelic rock, dabbling into early punk and blues rock at times. Meh. I liked the album's composition 2.5/5
The music of a bunch of musicians who dropped acid and went to a Ren Faire.
The songs I like are not these songs. I guess these songs are too psychedelic for me at this stage of my life. Maybe someday…
Psychedelic rock by the numbers. 2/5
Well, quite a contrast to Guns N' Roses, I must say. I know Love was pretty popular back in the day, but this album at least doesn't seem to have aged very well, perhaps because it's all over the map stylewise, waaay too much flute, and a strange choice to devote half the album to one song. "Seven and seven is" is a truly interesting proto-surfer-punk-ish song, and "Stephanie knows who" has some promise, but that's not enough to justify an album (even one as considerately brief as it is). And all the shenanigans of the band trying to get out of the Elektra contracts doesn't really add to the mystery or mystique, I must say (but they definitely benefited from getting the Doors producer on this album, especially with "Revelation"). Given that we're also getting what seems to be universally considered Love's (sole) masterpiece, "Forever Changes", I wonder why this album is even here?
sorry Love, didn't love it
2.5/5
Overall, fine. Nothing crazily stood out to me. Listening to more Love, they have much better stuff than this album. Not the biggest fan of the vocals, but instrumentally was impressed at points.
Feels like some pretty standard psychedelic rock. Not sure how I feel about the vocalist, but I wasn't overly inspiresmf by the album. It's alright at times, not at others. 2.5 would be my chosen score if I could choose that.
Nah. Dated.
Unfortunately, I found this album boring and uninteresting. I guess I can see how it would have made a splash, at the time, but I actively disliked it.
The top comments kinda cover it... looking back on my previous review of this band (another they have 2 albums on here??) I definitely didn't enjoy this much. It was just... there.
Didn’t do much for me really. I found this album unremarkable in every way, even though I feel like I might like it better after a few more listening sessions. Pretty forgettable if I am being honest. 2.3/5, did not find a single highlight that I might remember.
Minus one star for 'England town'
Bad
"Stephanie Knows Who" was a pretty cool and energetic opener. However, "Da Capo" crashed after that and never came back. Total dud after that first track. This album was not as good as "Forever Changes," and even that one was just ok.
I can definitely hear the jazz and psychedelic influences here. Stereo was novel. Cool. I hear the guitar on the right channel and drums on the left. The issue is that they don’t seem to be keeping time together. It’s all too loosey goosey. Bad bad jazz influence. Cool, but to listen to.
Not a bad album, just not my jam
Tidlig garage/psyk rock, sikkert innovativt, men sgu ikke vildt spændende nu
What is this discordant psychedelic folk trash? Is this a satire they forgot to make the movie for? If I had just landed on Earth, and this was my introduction to music, I'd head back to whatever music-less galaxy I came from without taking anything with me except deep regret and the satisfaction that none of these songs were catchy enough to be ear worms.
Usually with older bands on this list I’ve at least heard some of their work, even if I’m not familiar with their full catalogue. With Love, I didn’t know a single song. This album is all over the place - folk rock, jazz, baroque and the last song tried to do some kind of psychedelic soul thing. Most of the better songs sounded like they were doing an impression of the Doors, really early Pink Floyd, the Beatles or the Rolling Stones. This album feels like they had a lot of the building blocks, but didn’t really put them together in new, unique or interesting ways. 2⭐️
Oh look, another album from the 60's I don't like. 2/5
Sounds like an identify crisis. Mediocre rip off of every band and sound that was getting paid in the era. Not good, not bad, definitely not original.
kuulostaa halvalta.. halpahalli type biitti.. hyvällä mielellä mennään kuitenki perkule da capo maistuisi tähän väliin... lilliputti musiikkia valitettavasti. kakkipylly musiikkia harmillisesti. ford escort omistajat syö dacapon ylösalaisin että kaikki pikku suonet ja muhkurat lipoo kielenpäällystä.. huh hah hei ja rommia pullo. Da capo is an Italian musical term that means "from the beginning" SE ON TSUKUPÖTKÖ... SE ON SUOMALAINEN TSUKU........ taas vedetään suomen poikaa nenästä... tulette tätä katumaan monen monen monituisen vuoden päästä... revelation
Not really sure what this album is supposed to be.. I like variety but at various times it sounds like psych, experimental, jazz-rock, prog, pop. It feels a bit all over the place but I can see the merit, the last song is cool once they get past all the weird yelping
Ihme sekasotkua. Toivottavasti paljon. Muuten olen erittäin huolissani.
This album is pretty obnoxious, and I don’t mean it in a good way, only reason it’s not a 1 is because there’s something there right at the beginning, something resembling actual decent music, but it just falls off so quickly you’re left disappointed
Didn't really enjoy this one.
Underwhelming psychedelic folk rock, I guess is what I’d call it. Honestly, it just isn’t special. It’s unremarkable. Meh.
what a weird album. it's all over the place, the drums are pretty cool though.
doch schon ein paar Tage alt, aber irgendwie kamen mir ein paar Songs etwas bekannt vor
This album came and went. Unimpressed the entire time
It’s not terrible. It’s just ok. Standout might be She Comes in Colors. There’s some Stones, Doors, Queen sound to the album, just couldn’t put it together like those bands.
2/5
It’s ok - wouldn’t be one I go back to listen to
I don’t know. There’s some fine bits I guess. But my patience for psychedelic music wears thin after a couple of minutes. 2.5/5
Don't love this.
The tunes with Spanish guitar were cool. Thought I heard Chewbacca at one point.
60's rock... ish... Not The Doors, not The Who, easily forgettable.
Second album on here no better than the first
- I like the 18 minute jazz/blues ripper. - loses points for too much harpsichord - dude on the cover is dressed like an unironic pirate. partial credit. - not as interesting as their first album, or their third. But this does feel like a missing piece between the two. - overall: mediocre.
Not really going anywhere
This album was an underwhelming representation of what psychedelic rock was in the 1960s.
Gentle 60s psych. Pleasant, but another album I don’t have any intention of ever listening to again. A 2.5 rounded down. The 18 minute track to finish the album off is a bold choice.
One of my POP's favorite albums. I've heard this hippie music many times at top volume. The old man shaking the entire house with the speakers pushing air so violently the neighbors were running for cover. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, C'mon, Yeah, alright!
Decent little Folk Rock/Psychedelic record, nothing spectacular (may not be a big fan of the genre)... Has some good moments, but the songs are too short to grab onto. Orange Skies is alright, but short and lyrically weak. Same comments for !Que Vida! 7 and 7 Is has a cool galloping rhythm but doesn't develop into much else. Stephanie Knows Who is a decent Folk Rock number, but doesn't offer much in general. The final two tracks on side 1 are unremarkable at best. I did not listen to side 2, as it contains one 18 minute piece entitled "Revelation," I will not spend my time doing that lol.
I give you 2 stars for the 20 minute drawn out sort of blues jam at the end of the album….that was really kind of painful
So glad to have to listen to more folk psychedelia before I die. Once I heard the harpsichord at the very beginning I knew I was in for a bad time. At least there was no overuse of the sitar I guess.
Ya know I didn't even hate the 19 minute long jam sesh, it was fine. But I didn't like the first half enough to really justify it. None of these songs enticed me at all. Props for being experimental but apart from that, not something I'm coming back for. Fav songs: - None really :/
There are too many psychedelic rock albums on this list for me taste.
Like being trapped in an Austin Powers movie. Was decent in parts despite annoying vocals.
Ihan ok, muttei mitään hehkutettavaa
Musk für Jurten Bewohner
The first part is boring second (or third) rate '60s psychedelic rock, but the long track on face B is worth listening. Would have been better with no singing though, just them jamming is pretty good. It's a 2.5 for me, could have been 3 thanks to She Comes in Colors but downgraded to 2 because of the singing on the same track (and the rest of the album that is far from really good).
It's whatever. Not a good voice, especially since this followed Johnny Cash...
It has variations and it’s short so you can’t come tired of it as easily. But it’s just ok I guess.
I like the psychedelic stuff usually, love this era, but this one didn’t do it for me
Few songs deserve to be 18 minutes and Revelation knocks this down to a 2.
Yeah, I don’t really get this one. It’s fine. Not really hearing anything special.
Sounded very 60s. One track was very long, at over 12 minutes. Ok. I’d give it 2.5 stars
A few half decent songs and then an almost 20 minute jam. Come on lads!
This is fine? Another nothing-burger IMO, but not trash, so 2*. Fuuuuck that last track, annoying self-serving, rambling mess.
Check out hippie han solo over here. Boring album, the only thing I can say for it is that at least its over quickly. 7 and 7 is a decent track. 2/5
Really not sure why this is on the list. Not a single good song on the album. A couple of songs had some good moments, which is the only thing saving this from 1 star, but no one needs to listen to this.
Correcto Clásico, psicodélico, no es de mis preferidos de la época
2/5. Meh
Ok. Not awesome.
So parts of this really appeal to me, but then the weird vocalizations got to me. Some good playing here. Songs didn’t do much lyrically.
I can't even remember this and I listened to the whole album yesterday. Verdict: it really can't be that special.
For the most part, this is standard affair flute jazz late '60s folk inspired music. Most of the songs are really short and aside from a querky vocalist, pretty interesting. Then you come to the end and it feels as though the band realized they were 20 minutes short of LP length. And so they laid down an arbitrarily long 18 minute groove that displays no cohesiveness or talent whatsoever. Only 15 minutes of today's album was worth my time.
This is a cleaned up, sober, mediocre version of The Doors which explains why I've never heard of them. I rather liked the last song, despite the length. The rest feel like what comes up on Pandora when you type in "The Doors" and really want to hear a specific song but have to wade through all this other stuff to get to the payoff. The band name is very lame and the singer's voice isn't doing it for me compared to Jim.
I was exposed to Love years ago due to their history as label mates with The Doors. I checked them out but never found anything very memorable. It seemed like they had potential but never got over the hump. Da Capo is an OK album. The first half has a few songs that seem like they could be filled out a bit once the group grew into itself. I probably enjoyed the Side B long jam more than most but its still nothing special. Incidentally it reminds me of what The Doors were doing at the time with The End and When the Music's Over. The problem is that Love doesn't execute nearly as well as The Doors and don't have Jim Morrison's voice and antics to keep it interesting. When it's said and done it's a relatively mediocre listen. 2.35 stars
middle of the road psychedelic album
Psychedelic rock is not my thing. I have never heard of this band before this. It was worth the listen, but will probably never listen to them again. Favorite song was Revolution....minus the screaming in the middle.
I finished the album but couldn't tell you a single thing about it. Pleasant. Not really interested in listening again.
I almost made it through the entire album, until they decided that the final track would drag on for an exhausting 19 minutes! Probably won't give Love another go, but it was an enjoyable album to blast while at the gym. Not great, but not bad either.
I like my drugs as much as the next person, but this would have taken more substance use than I can handle to enjoy. Songs reminded me both of Three Dog Night and of the Mamas and the Papas at various vocal points. This was band was new to me, but I will not seek them out again.
average 60s album. why listen to this when the beatles exist.
18 minutes for one song is a bit indulgent! The songs were fine but really nothing special.
Flutes and harmonicas and mediocre singing. If those are your thing. Have a go.
not my thing
Weird collection but it’s ok
I'm sorry I know Love are much beloved but have now heard two albums from this list and don't get what raises them above a billion other beat bands who went a bit psychedelic.
Okay, I think? I don't know, I listened to it yesterday and I already do not remember it at all.
Æji var ekki í miklu 60's stuði. Þetta er óttalega mikil steypa fyrir mín eyru í dag. Love á samt góð lög og á alveg stað í rokk sögunni. Þessi plata er samt drep.
Diddle-di-dee intros introducing teddible vocals. Not for me, thanks.
Bleh.
Never heard before...!
didn't hit at all. sorry
Groovy man!
I had to search back to album 12 on here to find the last time I had Love. My previous review still holds up for album 619: "It was okay. A bit too mid 60s folk for my taste. Had a few catchy songs though"
Average drippy hippy folk rock sap. Totally fine and forgettable.
Nja....
Any time you can feature a 19 minute song that takes up an entire side of your record and this particular song goes absolutely nowhere for the 19 minute duration, you just have to do it. The last song, "Revelation" was the opposite of a revelation. It had me wishing for the events in Revelations to occur so I could just die and never hear the entire song. The first side is perfectly acceptable, if not unremarkable to me. I'm having a bit of a difficult time figuring out why two Love albums was necessary. Having not heard the second one on this list, I would guess that is the "more essential" one. This is psych-folk that doesn't do it for me.
The last song was long and interesting 2.8
Janis Joplin and Big Brother and the Holding Company definitely show their age but it’s timeless and classic. This shows its age buts it’s not timeless or classic.
Never heard of them.
„Psychedelic Rock“, laut Wikipedia. Alt und langweilig. Bestimmt zu der Zeit der Hammer gewesen. Immerhin nur ne halbe Stunde lang. Ich hörs trotzdem nicht zu Ende, zweieinhalb Lieder reichen mir.
No thanks

Listened to this while playing Dwellings of Eldervale solo. I won! This album was the definition of "meh" to me. I had heard of the band, but was not familiar with their music. It wasn't quite what I was expecting. The vocals were a bit of a nope for me. Some of the music itself was interesting...but the B-side was just overly indulgent. Several of the band members had said it was the worst thing they ever put to tape. Definitely not an album that will stand out to me in any way once I'm even 50 albums into this project.
the jazz flute nearly bumped it up another star. this sounds like a very influential album considering it came out in 1966, but my personal pref made me give it a 2 lol.
it was alright. Nothing groundbreaking but its good listenable
I don't understand what this album is supposed to be.
Really not my style at all. Sounds like every other 60’s band that has flute, harpsichord and harmonica jam band. I did enjoy the vocal expression. Never heard anyone from that era sound so post-punk.
Ok
Okk but myeah…
Just not my type of music. Wasn't bad to me, but not an album I'd return to
This album defines that psychedelic genre quite well. While it's not my personal taste the late 60s/early 70s definitely stood out. It feels quite experimental (read: druggy) and since the album itself is a typical length of 36 minutes, yet has just 7 tracks, that experimentation becomes clear with track 7 coming in at nearly 20 minutes.
Largely forgettable. But listenable.
not bad, but nothing stood out to me either
Very average album, I haven't heard anything interesting on it, and I'm not sure why it has been recognised by this list. Classic psychedelic composition of few short tracks and one massive bit, but problem is, it just wasn't good or worth listening. Big disappointment.
Starts out as fairly 'fluffy' flower pop tending to psychedelic rock. The vocal brings to mind Philip Seymour Hoffman's character 'Sandy Lyle' in the movie 'Along Came Polly': mistaken belief of abundant talent despite ample evidence to the contrary. Didn't mind 'The Castle' though. Yeah ... no.
Meh
I have never and will never understand the love affair that everyone has with the band Love. You could find literally any other Psych band from San Fran who does this a million times better (yes, even Forever Changes sucks.)
A binbag full of piss
Harpsichord has no place in popular music.
Da Crapo
i liked the donkey
Honestly? Totally forgettable, especially in the trough of albums of this era where everything sounds the same but hey, at least it was very short. 4/10.
Might be ok afer i hear more of it…..2.5
I saw that this had some poor reviews and I thought it couldn’t be that bad, but it really is a confused, disorganized, jumbled up mess. There’s heart here, but the band feels like it falling apart at the seems. Production is good, though, which would have meant it got an average rating, but the last track is just an abomination. Completely unneeded. 2/5
Quite varied. Still not won over by Arthur Lee and Love.
This was nice and short thankfully. The last song gave me anxiety
Sorta fine init
"Seven and Seven" is a great song. "The Castle" was catchy and "Stephanie Knows Who" is pretty good as well. This album sounds like they got caught between psychedelic and what would become "classic" rock. Good when they're good, forgettable when they're not.
Loads of elements I like but the way they’re mixed here just doesn’t work for me. Admirable stuff, but I don’t think I’d listen again.
I listened to this album essentially right after I got up for the day so it was different to listen to something in the morning vs the afternoon. That being said I feel like this was the perfect album to do that with. It's very peaceful but still upbeat. I thought it was pretty decent! The closing song on the album takes it down a couple points for me though, I personally think there's better psychedelic bands/albums.
Sounds of the era - I liked the flute. Could do without the B Side. 2.5
A psychedelic rock album that had some trouble knowing what it wanted to sound like. It was short which is good.
Another example of an album that is an important stepping stone to make rock more interesting and sophisticated. While labelled as psychedelic rock it can also be put under the subgenre proto-prog rock. I love the works with the flute. But the vocals! Argh! No, that doesn't really work. I stay with the actualy classics of the genre(s).
I feel like this might have all the elements to be a 5 star album in there somewhere: There’s some whirling organ in there, funky flute, protopunk yet jazzy vibes. Ooh but the delivery really isn’t doing it for me, I’m not usually one to use the word as an insult but damn this shit is gay at times. Interesting to read that She Comes in Colours came before She’s Like a Rainbow though. Seems like one had a pretty heavy influence over the other, but I would have guessed it was the other way around. Side one could almost make it to half marks but the 20min shouty jam on the B-side is not my bag at all.
Too many genres and weird vocal choices by the lead singer
Mfs be scared to moan i be in her ear like:
Jazz and medieval infused rock from 1966. Side 1 is a mostly listenable set of songs, side 2 comprises a single 18 minute track that decends into the band taking turns to play approximations of animal noises. Experimental, especially for 1966, but the creativity is perhaps at the expense of enjoyment. Rating: 2/5 Playlist track: ¡Qué Vida! Date listened: 17/05/23
Ok
This album could have been an email.
Love is a band from L.A., USA Genre: Psychedelia, hard rock, jazz rock 2nd Studio from Love Singles from Da Capo: ----------------------------- 7 and 7 Is / No. Fourteen (#33 USA) Stephanie Knows Who / Orange Skies (Did Not Chart) She Comes in Colors / Orange Skies (Did Not Chart) ¡Que Vida! / Hey Joe (Did Not Chart) Rating: 2.5
Very 60s. I felt like I was in an Austin Powers movie. Psychedelic. Not for me.
Dnl
I expected to like this but it didn't really hit the mark. So many other psychedelic bands did it better and with more memorable songs.
This isn’t the Love album people should listen to. It’s a bit thin.
This is like if the Rolling Stones were doing too little or too much cocaine, instead of just the right amount. Not a fan except for the last song which has an instrumental bit that's kind of cool.
Ahead of their time but it doesn't male it good. 2 good songs so 2 stars.
not sure of what I'm hearing
It feels weird to hear my name in a song. The vocal style is definitely interesting, and the music itself isn't bad. It might just be the vocals throwing me off, not sure. For sure psychedelic. Fave track(s): Stephanie Knows Who
Twiddly and fiddly and twee and long. Was glad when it was over. I don't like psychodelic rock.
Dull, mid-sixties gumpf. And that last track just goes on forever... Best Tracks: Orrange Skies; Que Vida!; Seven and Seven Is
Very 60 / hippy style music. Overall not bad, bit entire album too much for me.
Not quite sure what this band was going fit when they made this. One of the jazzy parts were actually okay but that was about it. It seemed that the various song styles and weird lyrics had no direction at all. I didn’t enjoy this much and probably won’t revisit it. 4.3/10
This doesn't really stand out for me with most music from that time period, so it's ok.
really early rock where a bunch of white guys are just trying stuff a la blues
Aside from "Seven and Seven Is", this album is largely even with contemporaries and doesn't stand out. The notable thing from Love is that they were a racially integrated band when that was and still is far too uncommon.
I didn't really get into this album. The singer would have been a great punk singer, but I didn't like his constant screaming in this psychedelic album. And the instrumentation was all over the place. I just didn't really get it.
Terrible stuff, even worse than The Doors! I thought "7 and 7 Is" and "The Castle" were alright. The latter half of "Revelations", after all of the whooping and masturbatory grunting was finished, was fairly passable. Other than that, it's a no from me. I'm tempted to give this a 1, but I know they probably did influence a lot of later 60s bands. I can't think of anyone else who was making music like this in the mainstream pre 1967.
You can sometimes tell the genre the band comes from by their name. Love certainly gives it away. The harmonica is interesting. Otherwise, 60s sound.
I think very highly of Forever Changes and was hoping to find more here to enjoy. Unfortunately this is not my cup of tea. It is still a sound of its time and doesn't really have anything as catchy. And then... 19 minutes of Revelation push this off the cliff. No interest in more.
These songs are so rambly, I'm having trouble caring about them. This thesis - or lack thereof - seems appropriately summarized by the 18 minute noodly jam a the end. Who needs it?
Not for me I’m afraid.
For me the 60s is like a lost decade. I prefer the music from the 50’s and 70’s instead. In the 60s many bands were transitioning to proto garage/psychedelic and this album exemplifies this. For some reason music in the 70s just sounds more appealing to me.
Uh, yeah not sure what's going on here.
During the first 6 tracks I was thinking why is this a noteworthy album, then the closing track is 18 minutes long... and that sounded like a overindulgent jamming session. It's not terrible, just not that interesting.
Kind of wierd, but at least nice and short! Jaunty. Weird pauses in the songs?
I wanted something different and I got it. Although I'm not that ecstatic about what I got. This is proof that not everything that came out of the 60's was great. It's a bit average to be honest. I think Forever Changes was a lot better.
Nope
Appreciated the energy, but the album sounds all over the place and lacks any cohesiveness
Just because you can include an 18 minute long psych rock track, that doesn’t mean you should!
very limited patience for this kind of psychodelic rock, the jam in the end was my favorite part by far
Ugh
An album that felt like it could've been important in 1966 but doesn't last the test of time. It is faded. An album to be found at Goodwill for a $1 to set a vibe at a '60's throwback party without everyone going... oh! that's the Beatles!
ahhhh. not my jam. maybe a bit too much free love? will probably check out their other work
I didn't care for this. Due to the psychedelic nature and the vocal style, it reminded me of off-brand The Doors at several points. They failed to be as interesting as The Doors, though. The tracks are all very short, and you think you're going to escape with your life...but wait, the final track is over 18 minutes long, accounting for over half of the total album length. Honestly, this album was not the worst listen, but it was just forgettable and unremarkable.
Psicodelia que não chega a ser iteressante.
Sjøl om da ligne på ein del andre ting eg kan setta pris på, så va da kje heilt for meg denna gangen. Bra med orgel då
Not great... not terrible. I actually really loved the first song. Had kind of a mix of punky, folky, and psychedelic sound... rest of the album didn't seem to measure up to me.
5/10
Didn’t love this one. Felt all over the place. The 19 minute jam track at the end was unexpected for sure. Just ok overall for me.
Dude, if you're gonna be consistently flat on the second song's high note, sing a different note.
Special I'm glad that I got to listen to it 3 Little too Rolling Stones for me 2 "Revelation" is really special Last part of "Seven And Seven Is" is really good
This album starts off strong, unique, and pleasantly surprising. High energy vocals, beats and melodies consistent with the 1960s --- a real solid effort at slightly above a half hour total listen time. That is until the final track at 18:58 of those minutes. Nineteen minutes of artistic expression that would have fared better on a B-sides, however in all fairness, that may not have been an option. The final note on this album ending with a 18:58 track is sour. Half of the album is tied up into this experimental, at times primal, and useless composed (if that) amalgamation of sounds that ended as unsatisfactorily as it began.
Not good
05/21/2022 Another one that's just not for me.
60's freakout rock with every hippie cliche imaginable. Still fun though and rocks pretty in places. Could have used better production and edit down the final track.
Not for me, just ain’t doing it
Meh
(But seriously, what's going on here? Because I absolutely adore the follow up album. This one feels so unfocused and messy. Even the biggie, 7 and 7 Is, sounds half-realised. The biggest bum note, though, is Revelation. They're simply not a good enough or interesting enough group of musicians to pull off an eighteen minute-and-change track. Hell, even the best struggle at times. Do yourselves a favour and head directly to Forever Changes where Love is concerned.)
boring
Eh- I made it through two songs. I understand how this album matters... I'm just not at a place to be able to appreciate it.
Nothing special. Inoffensive but forgettable.
Highlights: tracks 4 and 6. An 18-minute final track is a bit much in this case.
Liked the harpsichord, harmonica player good.
No. There's nothing about this that I dig. It's not HORRIFIC but it ain't good.
I liked one song
