Reviews (page 4 of 7)

sweet and chill

The first two songs made me think I would not enjoy this album. I thought it’s really not very good without Stills and Nash. After that though it gets pretty cool. This would be a great album to space out to. Most of it is kinda jammy ethereal music. There’s not much for hooks and it all blends together in a good way.

Nice chilled listen.

Buen album. El folk no es lo mío pero estuvo bien. 5/10

Pleasant but boring. Mid-to-strong 3 - Kinda nice but this song is too long. Not terribly noteworthy, though might have been pioneering for its time - So 70s. Riffing/jamming, it's nice but what am I supposed to feel???

The musicianship is good, the songs are ok, but it feels like watered down CSNY

Lots of talent, but not too many good songs. Easy to appreciate the musicianship but would have liked some more riffs and innovation.

In purely mysogenistic terms, this album flirts with you and shows a bit of leg in the first couple of songs. But that’s as much as you’re getting, and that realisation hits you the longer the album goes on, and leaves you a bit frustrated given the wares you thought might be on offer.

Sounds like it was fun to play, great tunes. Favs: Laughing, What Are Their Names, Traction in the Rain Also, the banger lyrics on this album, simple and ageless. For example: I thought I met a man who said he knew a man Who knew what was going on … I was mistaken, only a child laughing in the sun (bonus points for shivers when Joni chimes in)

Just didn't really connect with it. Beautiful, though.

Put this on while cooking brunch, didn't regret it.

Probably my favorite so far of the CSN&Y solo works we've gotten

I thought If I Could Only Remember My Name was a pretty solid album. At this point, i am pretty well versed in David Crosby's music seeing i have listened to 4 of the 7 albums he's involved in on this list. I thought that the general folk rock sound of this album was pretty nice to listen to as it did bring back some Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young vibes especially seeing as that would make sense, since both Neil Young and Graham Nash worked on a couple of the songs on this album. Honestly, beyond all of that, this isn't really an album i have that much to say about seeing as it is a pretty typical folk rock album but it is still a pretty solid one. Best Song: Music Is Love Worst Song: I'd Swear There Was Somebody Here

Pleasant to listen to but not exciting

ok so this is the first album im doing and i havent really thought this all the way through to be fair but i thiknn the way im gonna do this is the songs that stand out to me will be noted and talked about and everything else will be mentioned in the summary if i feel like it. this might change for longer albums but this is the way ill do this one. ill also have a playlist with all the songs i liked from this and this will helpo me make my aux better music is love- set the tone for me i know what im gettign into cowboy movie- i was wrong this is not what i was expecting but this is really fuckin good. summer beer music. really good background music

Solid if unspectacular? I feel like he tried his best to get away with not writing any songs but just making music off vibes lol. Like half the songs don’t have lyrics and it’s like “just cuz”

Never been a huge fan

Bem acoustic vibes Cowboy movie tem uns filtros nas guitarras bue funny parece que esta tudo mal calibrado e abafado Não sabia nada sobre o david crosby entao fui ao sr google: “David Crosby fans are remembering how he took Drew Barrymore in at 14 and helped her get sober” - “A nice david crosby story: he & his wife took in drew barrymore when she was 14 for a bit. typical america — she was in rehab but her insurance was running out the folks running the place knew crosby & asked them to take her bc she was not ready yet & couldn’t go home safely” Crosby underwent a liver transplant in 1994 after decades of drug use and survived diabetes, hepatitis C and heart surgery in his 70s In 1994, he received a liver transplant, paid for by his friend Phil Collins

grateful dead esque stuff. I don't think I will ever get it. Its nice but...

3 stars. Enjoyed it as background.

Had fairly low expectations of this but it was actually a nice vibe for Christmas breakfast washing up. It still has elements of the folk rock where Crosby made his name, as part of Crosby, Stills and Nash but this is very low key, with an improvisational feel, reminding me vey much of the sparse blues that emanates from some African countries.

Love the mellow vocals, but very much of its time

🥇cowboy movie 🥈i’d swear there was somebody here 🥉traction in the rain HM: laughing, song with no words

Pretty good and the album doesn't overstay its welcome. The variety of collaborators really lends itself to some interesting variety, but it sounds thoroughly like David Crosby's work. He has stronger music elsewhere, but this album isn't bad at all. Favorite track: "What Are Their Names" stuck out to me

So far off to a good start. Music is Love rockin intro with some bongos maybe? Djimbe? Ultimately felt nice if a little predictable.

Pretty mediocre

Crosby solo debut, disappointing Music is love

Solid but not very memorable folk/classic rock album Favorites: Cowboy Movie, Song with No Words

certainly was unique, but a decent listen

A great voice and master of harmonies

pretty good

I think I would really like this album if I paid more attention to it, but as it stands it didn't really grab me on listening.

Oh man - I saw the name David Crosby, and this dopey cover and rolled my eyes. But a track or two into it and I'm enjoying this a lot more than I thought I would. It was called "psychedelic folk" in someone's review, and a contemporary review compared it to describing a dream right after you wake up - it doesn't quite make sense but while you were dreaming it did. I completely agree; this is dreamy in a unique way. "Laughter" has some of the best harmonies I've ever heard. "Cowboy Movie" sounds like "Wooden Ships," or any of a dozen Neil Young songs. Overall I enjoyed it. THREE STARS

Du bon folk

Neat album!

Dabid Croby

The hippies may be gone, but their memory remains with us, largely through their music. Some of it beautiful, some of it ridiculous, some of it brilliant, some of it cringe, but all of it reflective of their drugged-out lil brains. The whole spectrum is here on this album, which makes it an interesting document for the era. Best song: Traction in the Rain

Soothing but I don’t think I’ll ever listen to this again

Of the men of his peer group, I think I find David Crosby the most compelling, not only as a musician, but as a person. He seems elusive and unknowable, which lends an air of mystery to his music, both here and in his collaborative projects. I do sometimes wish the music had more of an edge, but I guess that's what he needed Neil Young for.

It was a pretty album, and better vibes than the last couple.

I found this album to be enjoyable. Although as a big Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young fan; but excluding Neil Young, these guys really need each other to shine. Deja Vu is one of my favorite albums of all-time, but the solo stuff just doesn't hit the same. Again, Young is the exception. Still, this was decently enjoyable would be a nice listen on a car ride on a nice fall day. Cowboy Movie is probably the standout here. Also not overly long.

I normally would've given this one star, not because it's a bad album but mostly a very cliche folk rock~ i'm aware that it's one of the first big folk rock albums, but it didn't blow me away. However, the psychedelic songs in the album, and especially I'd Swear There Was Somebody Here & Tamalpais High songs were good influences on me. I also liked the story being told by Cowboy Movie, which is pretty futuristic i'd say for its time, considering even the biggest songs were at most about personified singular stuff, like Eleanor Rigby. Turning a movie plot into a lyrical folk rock song hit the jackpot for me.

Hmmmm. Wonder how many babies were conceived with that track and a large spliff!

It was pretty chill, sounded nice

It’s fine not my favorite

Some of it felt too stripped back, but other moments were pretty ethereal. Not bad

great songwriting, very beautiful

Cowboy Movie is quite good but the rest is kind of dull. 3 stars or C-.

Slow, but enjoyable. Sounds like a 70's dinner party. Pretty hippy dippy.

This was okay. Actually a bit than I expected.

Sort of faded into the background.

It's fine. Nice sound mix, but a little bland after awhile

Um álbum bem sensível de folk. QoA Adonis New.

I could appreciate this effort. I don't know how to articulate why it's not immediately something I feel like repeating, because so much of it has ideas and energy that I typically highly appreciate. I would listen to this again if someone suggests it. I'd buy the record if I find it cheap for an occasional spin when I flick through my collection. My brain feels it's very classic rock. That ending sticks to you. 3.2/5

Enjoying the chilled nature of the album so far. Wasn't a fan of the opening track but interesting harmonies and compositions. A soothing vibe to a lot of the tracks and I've been drawn in for the most part.

Really not my cup of tea. Decent album though.

Good 60s pop/folk

Perfectly nice folksy stuff

Okay, but not my favorite by Mr. Crosby. I think there were better options for this list.

Not incredibly exciting though the most atmospheric second half improved this albums score. 3/5

If only I could remember a single song from this album.... Yes, this is a forgettable album but I enjoyed it anyway and could get on board with listening to it again. I like the laid back vibe. 3.5/5

I really liked Laughing but apart from that there wasn’t anything really memorable on this one. Not a bad album by any means but there’s pretty much zero chance I’ll ever revisit it. Top Track - Laughing

Very beautiful album, perfect listening music for crossing the Japanese countryside via train.

An interesting album, I like the atmosphere of it 3/5

A fine folk album. Listened in my car on the way to work but it seems like more of a sit down and listen at home kind of album

Full of mellow introspective folk songs, this is pretty much what you'd expect from a folk/country/rocker doing a "come-play-music-with-me" guest-spot solo record. I wouldn't call this groundbreaking or even all that memorable. It is exactly what I'd expect from a David Crosby solo record.

The highest rating a Crosby, Stills, Nash or Young album has received from me is a 2. Me giving this a 3 is a huge honour for this album. It's not terrible.

Good calming music, kind of reminded me of Leonard Cohen from earlier on this list, but unlike Cohen it didn't speak to me.

muy lindo. hippie rock. me emboló bastante pero está bien

I enjoyed this one. Quite chilled.

-i ended up liking this one more than i thought i would. i am a CSNY enjoyer to an extent but i hadn’t heard David Crosby’s solo stuff and -the Joni Mitchell feature (did they call it that back then?) was really good. lot of folk juggernauts on here we love to see it -Favorites: Music Is Love, Cowboy Movie

It's next to the title, retard The music was okay. Not too shabby for a retard!

I’m not there yet. I might love this as a 70 year old man with a long ass beard doing yoga on a sunday morning, but as I said… Not there yet. Sounds amazing tho.

It's okay, another good background music album

With this album I sadly still think I have to stand by my opinion so far: that CSN are better together than they are solo. There were some decent songs here and there, especially towards the end, but it just felt quite forgettable all in all somehow. Don't have a deeper analysis than this, just a bit disappointed and barely remember anything special about it. Weak 3.

Forgettable but pleasant folksy music. The element that made Crosby, Stills & Nash great - their really cool layering of guitars - is absent here. I can’t remember a single song from this album, but it wasn’t unpleasant. A weak 3.

Not the worst. Not the best.

pretty cool but honestly nothing special. was hoping for a little bit more because crosby’s really cool

Very laid back. Nice vocal harmonies. I wish some of the songs were longer.

I didn’t really enjoy the listen I found the album a little strange and there was kinda of only 1 song that stood out to me which was Traction In The Rain there was also definetely stuff that was interesting just not the type of album that has songs that go to the playlist. 5.5/10.

Meh, okay, fine. Nothing special. I like the vibes more than the composition of the material here. Something you put on the background while you're stoned.

A very nice album. It has a good mixture of many genres. Nothing really stands out but every track is above a certain standard. Not sure if I will come back to the album but it does sound pleasant. A real good 3.

pleasant listen, but not much more than that. this didn't blow me out of the water, and not sure if I would ever return to it. but, it was a nice listen.

The album was pretty good - some parts were beautiful, others were just boring. I think that evens out to an unremarkable 3.

It's fine. It's just....fine. Every album we've gotten by Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young, or any combo of those names has been just.....fine.

This began the wave of solo works from each of Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young. Per usual with these endeavors, pretty much the whole group has guest features on this one too. But despite that, there are a few tracks that don't feature any actual lyrics. There's a mix of folk, psychedelia, and more jazz-oriented & inspired pieces, which I found unique. Things get pretty...spiritual with the last two tracks, though.

if only i could remember a single standout moment on this album. zzzzz

Pretty. And boring. Pretty boring.

Crosby er natl icon, og þessi plata sannaði fyrir mér afhverju, hef natl bara heyrt crosby stills and nash og crosby, stills, nash and young áður

Song with no words is like all of them I swear. Cowboy song felt like one of the only completed, thought out songs, the rest felt mostly like jam sessions. They were quite good though, felt quite jazzy and bluesy but ruined a bit by the annoying vocals with the wispy harmonies which felt like they struggled to reach those notes a little. It would have been better if it had been purely instrumental to be honest. The one that was purely an instrumental (Tamplais high) shows it would have better this way in my opinion, either that or more songs like cowboy song. The last 2 were such a strange way to end the album as well, this album lacked consistency. Favourites: Cowboy song and Tamplais High (as mentioned). Overall, 5/10

Some good vibes in this rock album, but some of the songs were a miss. Not bad, not going to remember.

Solid classic rock with nice singing and compositions. It didn't necessarily blow me away but I can tell there's good music in here. To be honest it might be in that realm of "do you have to hear this album in your lifetime?" for me. "Orleans" is particularly pretty, with great vocal harmonies. 3/5.

A little folk, not that good

I see that it was created in an act of dealing with the death of his girlfriend, but it still somehow vibes narcissistic to me. Same as the other solo albums of CSNY.

Great songs. This is nice album to relax to. It's not too complicated, it can just be.

Mellow but pretty enjoyable. Nice harmonies, gives me Simon & Garfunkel vibes.

enjoyed this a lot. super hippy album with a bunch of noodley crap. but it feels good. csny lite. Really pleasant. One for the mornings.

fora, bolje nego što sam mislio. al na kraju krajeva ništa posebno

IT's OK. NOt amazing, but not bad. I fun listen

Nice enough but all seems a little safe. When think back to when I was listening to it yesterday I can barely remember any of the songs which segments none of it is good enough to stick. I can’t imagine it was all that groundbreaking at the time let alone looking back.

Not a bad album. But certainly not something. I’d listen to all the time.

I really enjoyed the CSNY album I generated last year, Deja Vu, and it's been interesting exploring the various solo projects from the respective members. Here, Crosby pushes the psych-rock envelope with long, meandering tunes that showcase his guitar playing with dreamy, ethereal elements. I found it a bit lacking in direction and purpose at time, I'd be interested to hear what he'd have made with a producer pushing him to tighten up the arrangements as there are glimmers of lovely harmony and superb guitar work. For me it was just a bit vague and loose but at no point did I find it a difficult listen. Nice stuff.

There were a couple cool jammy tracks and the rest were pretty chill.

приятно, порадовало немного

Some really good songs and some filler. Laughing and What are their names were standout tracks.

respectfully, he doesn’t have the sauce of a solo artist. the guest spots on this make it shine at moments, but it’s weirdly lethargic

Mildly entertaining; well produced. Probably excellent if high. Three stars

Mellow and enjoyable, I enjoy the vocals and soft beats. Pairs well with cooking or driving in the hot sun.

Day 44- First listen- The beginning was a bit slow and not very memorable but songs 4-9 were GORGEOUS, i enjoyed listening to the album overall! (3/5)

Not sure why this one is on the list. It’s not bad but doesn’t seem very remarkable

Quite nice.

That's a David Crosby album for sure. Chill.

Smooth, but a bit boring. Hilarious cover. Better than On the Beach.

Good album with good vocals and interesting guitar. I felt it drags a bit at times.

Had very cool vocal parts, and you could really tell how influential this sound was in the music around the time right after this album. However, wasn't necessarily my style, and I don't see myself returning back to this album. There are newer and more interesting albums that play deeper into the folk rock and ambient sounds.

The grooves and jams seem uninspired after so much exposure to the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young anthology and all its spinoffs. I do love the activism and have a soft spot for the vibe.

This really had me in the first half then fell off a cliff in the second. Song with No Words is a straight up accidental parody and rarely impressed by blues rock instrumentals. I'm still a sucker for this country blues rock though so I'll be coming back to it anyway.

Soothing hippy-dippy folk with some impressive harmonies. Makes me wish I were high around a campfire.

I feel like if I was doing worse mentally and emotionally this album would hit harder. Still pretty good tho. Best song: Cowboy Movie Notable(s): What Are Their Names

Seems like a pretty important album in music history, it was pretty ok. It felt very much of the time period. 3/5 it was OK

Well, if he can't remember, how can we?

Oh god, this is going to suck. It's whatever, man. I'm getting so much 70s shit that it's all starting to meld together. It all sounds like three things: hippie shit, rock shit, or nascent punk shit.

It was fine, laid back psych blues rock. Didn't find it particularly special

Short and sweet - if you're after this kind of thing then it's pretty decent. I can't say I'll be reaching for it regularly though

Es war so durchschnittlich ich hab nichtmal ne Meinung hierzu

mimimi

Pleasant and at-times ephemeral. Probably won't go back for much of the album, but glad for the introduction.

Some beautiful work in the first half

There was a lot of pleasant sounding instrumentals throughout this entire project, which made for good background music. There was nothing that stood out to me in particular, however.

kelpo albumi

Fint album med enkelte gode låter. Favoritt sang: Song with no Words

Perhaps my favorite voice in Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. His raspy voice is a great addition to the nice vocal harmonies they have. The other members chime in on his solo album as well, which I think are the best moments here. It's a nice album, but it's very light on hits and memorable moments. I've listened to it about 5-10 times but I can never really recall anything from this album. I wish it stuck with me more, but alas it doesn't.

Good album, not too remarkable.

This is pretty decent but kind of forgettable. I like the psychedelic influences its very vibey and fits pretty well with the cover. Kind of just sounds uninspired compared to David's contemporaries at the time. "Cowboy Movie" is great. 6/10 Favourite: Cowboy Movie Least Favourite: Music is Love

Tough one to rate. Many points felt like a two staff album but then would hit some really great listening. So many of the songs built and droned for too long only to get a small crescendo. With the guests musicians on the album, I expected more but they kind of blend in too. This is what I assume a CSN jam session sounds like.

i have a real love-hate relationship with david crosby. the love: he had a phenomenal knack for vocal harmonies. some of the greatest vocal harmonies put to tape were under his direction. some of them are even on this album! the hate: my god, his pompous ass writes some of the most droning, boring shit i've ever heard. it's not bad, i guess. it's not unlistenable. it's just so goddamn boring. this is no exception. really what you're getting a lot of is CSNY lite. a lot of the characteristics of great music with not a lot of the payoff. unfortunately, david needs a bit of help and guidance to make interesting music. for a guy who loaded his entire body with drugs for 25 straight years, you would think his music would be a little more interesting.

When smoking and jamming with the boys in your garage becomes an album.

nice background listen overall, but as someone said there's basically no song in this

Points for Cowboy Movie.

Listening to his solo stuff highlights how much influence he had on the CSN(Y) sound, even with the understanding that some of them appeared on this album to varying degrees. I’ve never been a huge dan of their sound, although I appreciate the talent, particularly the harmonies and songwriting. This album keeps the same vibe, including the guitar noodling that one would expect. Of the four artists, I may enjoy this solo material most. I should say Neil Young’s works are my favorites, and they may be better, but much to my own sadness I could never really get into him, mainly the nasally voice. That all said, I have some trouble really getting into this album purely out of “separating the art from the artist” issues. I have heard too many times how Crosby was a class A jerk, even admittedly so. Like a really awful person, among the worst in the industry. Which is saying a lot. Is the music still great? Yup. Does that make the sincerity of his work seem hollow? Sadly, also yup. I’d like to give four stars, probably deserves at least that. But just can’t get there.

sng with now rods

I would like to be able to write like this

Relaxed 70s rock. Not anything special but just solid songs

Why do I always mix up David Crosby and Gallagher?

I cant remember how one track goes.

This was more pleasant than I expected, but still a little corny for my taste. I like hippie shit, but even I've got my limits.

It was okay, but I won't want to listen again.

Good, but a bit blah.

A fine album of pretty songs but I believe the below to be true: Crosby, Stills, or Nash – ⭐️⭐️ Crosby & Nash/any other pairing – ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Crosby, Stills & Nash – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young – ⭐️⭐️⭐️ While I like Crosby & Nash joints like Mama Lion and Carry Me, and of course CSN&Y tracks like Our House and Teach Your Children, the sweet spot is the trio of CS&N. Their 3-part harmonies are incredible and they each bring a little something different to the gumbo that is missing when it's just one or two of them, and gets too muddled with the addition of Young IMO.

Chill chill chill

liked!

The first and last songs were odd miscues for the rest of the album, which was solid.

I love David’s voice, and I love his work with CSN&Y (in all their iterations). And one or two songs of his on those albums is the perfect amount. But a full record worth is just too much. Too meandering. Too everything. I had this album on vinyl back in the day and I’m pretty certain I only listened to it once.

i hated when it was rock n roll but i loved when it was hippy

One of the albums of all time

Liked Tamalpais High and eventually enjoyed Laughing, but long intro that was very diff from the rest of the song. Pretty old school and lots of instrumental in gene .

It’s a very open hearted, deeply chilled out and vulnerable folk rock record. The pleasingly jarring, conspiratorial lyrics on What are Their Names is the definite highlight for me. Though pretty pleasant, it did get a little tedious the longer it went on. Worst offender for this is the extended length second track Cowboy Movie.

Overall: 5/10 I was really looking forward to this one. I really like Crosby, Stills and Nash and David Crosby is obviously a big part of that love. For some reason, this album took a few songs for me to really get into it. There's nothing wrong with it at all, I just wasn't vibing with it all that much. It feels like a bunch of unfinished ideas that he decided to slap onto the same album. I'm sadly dissapointed by it. Fav Song: Traction in the Rain Least Fav Song: Music is Love

Great!

Another similar album to Neil Young, with no standout songs you would want to skip but nothing to really skip, hop, or boogie along to and is mostly just background noise while working. Giving a 2.5/5 rating which will be bumped to 3 to differentiate between 2s.

Kinda slow

A record I’d never heard before. I think I’d need another listen or 2 to really understand it better or find the right mood for it.

Reminded me a lot of Deja Vu by CSNY but wasn't as good for me. It was fine to have on. At it's best it made me want to listen to CSNY instead.

3 stars

It’s alright

Going to need a few more listen to appreciate and understand but background noise for now

It's fine. A lot of doodling in between mediocre melodies. The musicianship is top notch.

Enjoyable if a bit short 3/5

It was ok. I much prefer Crosby in his band. This album didn’t have the same magic, but it was still listenable.

Musically, a solid 5. Lyrics? Not so much

This was ok, a little sleepy. The musicianship is there, but I guess I just prefer his work with CSN&Y.

It’s a totally fine listen. But if I could only remember…why this was included in this exercise…

This was a surprise and a good listen, several really beautiful songs on here. I think the number of instrumentals and lengthy jam out periods of this makes it feel like it doesn’t quite have enough meat to it.

Methinks I needed to mellow out a little more to enjoy this, if ya know what I mean 😉 I’m talking about drugs…ya know… Blazing the Broccoli, Hitting the Devil’s Lettuce, Roasting the Jazz Cabbage, Taking the Green Elevator, Puffin’ the Magic Dragon, Firing up the Salad, Greening the Gills, Launching the Lawn Clippings, Baking the Potato, Riding the Pineapple Express, Crisping the Kale, Mowing the Mind Grass, Toasting the Turnip, Rippin’ the Herb Bongos, Lighting up Old Mary Jane, Visiting Planet Pot, Hotboxing the Honda, Brewing the Leaf Soup, Getting Silly with the Sticky Icky, Pulling a Cheech & Chong… All that to say this was pretty 🥱 😴 2.5 but rounding up for his mustache and generous sperm donation to Melissa etheridge. Shouldn’t that kid be a musical super star by now?

This is fine. Totally fine. 2.75/5

Strange album, a mesh of different styles, but didn't grab my attention fully. There's prog, psychedelic, rock, country and a bit of jazz and probably something more on here. Some songs have more structure, but most of them don't follow a straight line. You can never guess what will come next. But the album lacked some virtuosity or energy for me. Twin guitar setup, I'm guessing that's what it is, sounded kind of strange, because they were both playing melodies in the same frequency range. So they sort of blend together and it sounds a bit dissonant, like you are listening to something which wasn't planned.

Music Is Love 3.3 Cowboy Movie 3.7 Tamalpais High (At About 3) 3.4 Laughing 3.3 What Are Their Names 3.2 Traction in the Rain 3 Song with No Words (Tree with No Leaves) 3.3 Orleans 3.1 I'd Swear There Was Somebody Here 3 Score: 3.255555556

not too bad. I liked this more than I usually like CSNY; but some of this just reminded me of other, more interesting Eagles songs

Run of the mill CSNY album (not memorable, listenable, sounds like chez 106.1)

Boy oh boy is this album is totally fine.

I listened to the SACD release of this album. When it hit, it worked really well for me. I admire how experimental it is for a major release, but feels too much like a grab bag. I liked the more ethereal tracks.

Some nice guitar work and harmonies, enjoyable album, probably not an essential listen for me

3 out of 5. So-so, nothing stood out but no real bad tracks either.

No doubt self indulgent but had some interesting parts

Good songs, great vibe.

I didn’t have an opinion on most of this. It was kinda just there. Enjoyed Cowboy Movie the most, but the rest was not my thing. *Just* a 3.

Day456 - this a pretty chill album. i enjoyed it

I think I much prefer Crosby's work in CSN&Y. This was okay, but nothing on this record really piqued my interest more than very occasionally. 3/5

had high hopes after really enjoying Cowboy movie but this tailed off and I lost interest, it's ok as background music but wasn't anything to keep me coming back with full focus

Some good and fine moments, but wasn’t amazing. The album cover is cool

Liked the first few quite a bit, the more folky stuff I could take or leave. In that sense it was very much like a CSNY album to me. Would listen to again. 7/10

A pioneer!

Generally inferior to most CSNY releases and even most of the memorable solo releases, clearly from Young, but also from Stills and Nash. Still decent enough, but Crosby is definitely my least favorite member of the group given his penchant for meandering monotony.

64/1001 - Music has little substance and becomes redundant fast. Very competent drummer.

Nice listen for a chill Sunday afternoon

I enjoyed this more than I expected. Some really nice tracks. Pretty pleasant.

Pleasant, but kind of meandering and structureless.

It’s r and b meets folk with some guitar … fun stuff I enjoyed it

Background music.

Nice enough, no songs really stick

If I had to rank my CSNYs, then it's obviously St Neil by a long way, then Manchester's finest Graham Nash, then yer man Crosby (sorry Stephen Stills, maybe you'll convince me yet!). This album didn't really shift the dial on that ranking. It's nice enough country folk, and you can still hear where he brings the rest of the gang, plus Joni et al in. I think is voice is a touch feeble though, and the songwriting doesn't always make up for it. Like all things CSNY, loads going for it, but unlike their best bits, a little flimsy.

Some nice guitar as you would expect.

Tamalpais High (At About 3)

Lots of pretty moments that just washed over me - famous folkies doin' drugs and jamming, alright.

Tastefull palette of 1970s. Fin stemning I stua. Fungerer godt i bakgrunn men tåler nærmere inspeksjon.

Honestly not that memorable. Was hoping it'd be better considering that it's David Crosby but after a while, it all starts to sound the same. 5/10.

Easy listen, short album with some really nice tones. 6/10.

Old but if you take time to listen to, may e it‘s worth

Really only one song I enjoyed here, Cowboy Movie. The rest...whatever, instrumental and or hippie stuff.

The cros. Crossy Crosborne. I listened to this album. Liked it even

Through this project I've seen David Crosby's range and growth as a solo artist, with a supergroup, and with his first band. Yet I didn't expect something like If I Could Only Remember My Name, which was rather chill and folk-y. I'd go so far to say that some sounds spiritual. The guest performers are fascinating, and that's what I love to see in these kinds of albums. But in some ways, the album was a little lackluster, probably due to the tone being too chill. At least it made for an easy listen, and damn those sixties and seventies artists knew how to keep an album short.

This album was nice, peaceful, and baseline enjoyable. But it really lacked any significant hooks or grabs. It was just kind of background noise, really. I wasn't put off by this, but I do wish there had been more to it.

Sumptuously slow. Gripped by its time.

Was für äs Fistel-Stimmli😂 - ah nei, nachane wirds besser. Fangts erschte Lied miteme outro aa?

Unfortunately this falls squarely into my classic rock category. It has moments of absolute timeless brilliance, but is rather more squarely dated and it remains not really my go to genre. I don't think I would be in any opposition of his politics and maybe even like the man, so it is not really anything to do with politics, which is so omnipresent just now in our fragmented culture, I think it is just down to personal taste and how the music stirs (or doesn't) my soul.

I never did get to this on Friday. It was okay 3 stars

2.9 2x folky

For some reason it did not hit the same as others of his (including collabs). I will have to give it another try sometime in the future.

This one’s an interesting listen, but I’ve always preferred David Crosby when he was working with The Byrds or CSNY. His solo stuff has some great musicianship and a few cool moments, but a lot of it just kind of floats by without much sticking. The whole album feels mellow and spacey, like you're hanging out in a studio with everyone high and seeing where the instruments take them. It sets a mood, sure, but not one I feel the need to revisit often. It's more of a vibe than a collection of songs I’d go back to.

Love the harmonies. Good album

Some good some a little slow.

A hippitastic snapshot in time. A star studded journey, pleasant enough tunes I suppose, but hardly essential.

It was alright

Dreamy

Good album. Crosby has a cool voice. Unfortunately there were places on this album that did not seem substantively different than any given Crosby Stills & Nash album. For example, the harmonies on "Laughing" and "What Are Their Names" are very much CS&N. Overall, an enjoyable if somewhat short album.

liked it, very nice playing of music

A 1971 entry with the right vibes throughout. Relaxing and enjoyable flowy composure of voice and guitar. Founding member of the Byrds. Very mystic vocal heavy.

Well I can tell who wrote my favorite song from the CSN album I had earlier, because so many songs here sound like Guinevere. A very breif amd quite album, it wasn't really something that stuck with me and was overall quite forgettable. It sounds good, but I don't think I'll come back soon. My favorite is Tamalpais High.

A pretty good album, I liked Laughing and Song With No Words the most

I thought I met a man Who said he knew a man Who knew what was going on I was mistaken

Quite like this.

First listen. Quite good.

Not a bad album but knowing it comes off the back of Deja Vu it can't help but feel a bit bland. Not that much unique about this versus his other work. Good performance and production. For sure an album worth hearing but not the strongest.

The instrumentation is good on this album. The stereo mixing is pretty solid. Crosby's vocals unfortunately do not grab ones attention. A strong 3 almost 4, but in the future if I wanted to listen to this kind of music I'm probably not turning to this one.

A nice vibe here. Nothing exceptional but quite ok laid back easy listening soft rock.

beautiful

Very relaxing. Spacey but still hard hitting with some folk bangers. Favorite = cowboy movie

Cowboy Movie // Tamalpais High // 3.5/5

Nothing was amazing or grabbed me but it wasn't bad, just simple folk music

Mellow. Soooo mellow. I appreciate the warm acoustics and the smooth vocal harmonies. David Crosby isn't a great lyricist but sometimes his poetry is so deep that the words just get in the way of what he wants to say (Tamalpais High, Song w/o Words) I feel you David. Go with that doobie dobbie dooo yaaa... shit man. So transcendent it becomes some kind of spiritual hippie thing. Mellow grooves.

The album cover is so bad it should give an instant -1 point. Album is ok-ish if youre into that kind of stuff, nothing crazy tbh.

I mean, it's OK. But it's pretty middle of the road music wise, and the production notes look like a phone book of people who'd have been invited to the same talk shows, as established names within the business. Great that he could pull that off, but it's not going to set my world on fire. Didn't have any strong objections to listening, but will spend zero time in my consciousness.

This album slows down time, in a good way. I can get behind is vibe, but not one of my favorites.

Love the dirtier bluesy stuff. Cowboy Movie was a great track. The back half of this album was kind of shit though. 2.5

Crosby was decent, just not a wow. I think him and the rest on CSNY were all better together than solo.

Never heard of him or just never paid attention to him. He was decent but not crazy good

David always surprises me with his voice. Warm and gentle. A nice album for any CSN fan

A bit rambling - can imagine a midnight jam session with a lot of joints being passed about - but some great vocals and cool vibes. A strong 3...

Country music is either really shit, like on the pop sides of it, or really good like Bluegrass and Outlaw Country. First song is absolute garbage but Cowboy Movie is better but it drags on too long. Laughing is a great song but again I think it'd benefit from being about a minute shorter. I like Traction in the Rain too. It's a nice, calm, solid album. Not bad, not amazing either.

Awesome music. Right up my Southern Rock niche. Never really gave David Crosby the time of day, I fell into Neil Young at an early age but his co-members of CSN&Y I just didn't engage with. Lovely Southern night vibes with immense singer songwriter vibes. Lush vocal harmonies and tonalities. Shits operatic and melodramatic at other times. Is it Dad rock/yacht rock/soft rock? Yeah. Does it rule, also yeah.

It was fine, it was easy listening that I enjoyed, but also forgettable. 2.6/5

Just background noise for the most part, neat, but nothing groundbreaking for me 2.5 rounded up

# Album Name: If you could remember my name # Artist: David Crosby # Rating: 3/5 # Comments: Was alright. Few good tunes that i added into my play list - music is love, laughter and cowboy movie. The rest is decent background music. Vocals werent great # Top Tunes: music is love, laughter and cowboy movie. # Would I listen to it again? Parts of it.

I liked this album more than I thought I would, and I do think it is interesting, but in 2024, I don't think it holds up for more than a historical piece. It is something peaceful to put in the background and fulfills a certain appetite for meandering, hippy folk, but I'm not sure I'd listen to it much. So, I'd probably give it 3.5 stars but don't feel I can give it 4 stars, because I just don't think it really resonates that deeply despite the cult status. It's "good" but doesn't feel so "essential" to me, in 2024.

Slightly funky 70s rock. Not offensive, but not all that interesting. A VERY 70s album cover

Not something in my general wheelhouse of listening. That said, there was a lot here I liked. Had a wider variety of styles than I expected and everything was performed very well. Still not sure it’s something I’d turn to often.

I'm not likely to seek this out, but it was fine background music.

Boring

Creo que puedo curtirlo mas. Por ahora queda en un 3 pero tirando a un 4.

The kind of music that plays as the beach is winding down, not too different from this album cover. Sun setting, etc. Did we ever get any CSN or just their offshoots? Either way, this was a fine and decent album.

I'm sure we've had a few from Crosby and his cohorts. This one is cool though, has a bit of a mystic edge to it, especially near the end. Lot of blues instrumentation, blended with psychedelia. Cool album, worth a listen for sure. Favorite tracks: Cowboy Movie, What Are Their Names, Song With No Words, I'd Swear There Was Somebody. Album art: Perfectly matches the vibe, sunset over the ocean piercing through an overlay portrait shot. Love this one. 3.5/5

If I Could Only Remember Any of The Songs After Listening. It wasn't unenjoyable but none of the songs stuck out for me.

Great harmonies, great sounds, but kind of meh songs.

I have a soft spot for soft rock, and this felt alright. Nothing about it particularly grabbed me, but it was nice.

I did like this- alternatively Folkey and then Rocky. Straddles the 60s and 70s seamlessly....

Nothing exciting, nothing special. Definitely I prefer Crosby in slightly different environment, with more friends around to share the composing. Otherwise, quite forgettable album.

Better than I expected it to be. Never been a big fan of Crosby, Stills and Nash so I wasn't expecting much from his solo work.

most of the songs sound like CSN 2.0. david crosby had a distinct singing style that stood out. not bad.

Just a pretty middling folk album. I've never rated Crosby as much as Young, to be honest.

Really beautiful acoustic/harmony classic rock. Some of the instrumentals almost reminded me of dark new age, almost like Dead Can Dance.

This was a very chill listen. It was entertaining enough to have as background music and didn't make me want to skip any tracks. It's good to listen to while working, it is somewhat therapeutic.

Interesting. A lot of random chords often with no lyrics just humming and "domdoming" along. Decent background album for getting some things done around the house.

I've always preferred CSN to any of the solo efforts from that trio, and this one didn't change my mind. Still had some pretty interesting tracks though, so I didn't hate it, but not one that rises to the top for me.

Putu chill.

он приятный и напомнил мне переслушать и их совместные, и соло альбомы (но вместо этого я сутки слушала Марвина Гея и рыдала)

Cool mix of loose folk and some psychedelia. I enjoy how casual it feels, without sounding sloppy or lazy. That cover art is atrocious though.

Unfocused but beautiful

Ihan kuunneltavaa rallattelua.

Not a one of these songs have I heard before. Not all that bad actually, albeit a tad watery. What Are their Names was the standout.

Ehh, not my thing.

Chill listen. I liked this one better than Manassas by Stephen Stills. I knew I was a David Crosby kind of guy. ;)

Wasn’t super compelling

Some solid 70s songwriter tunes, mixed with a few more experimental arrangements.
