Reviews (page 6 of 7)

Angry album that I feel a little too old for.

The best thing about this record is that it's only 20 minutes long. Music like this is just not meant to be listened to at 10am while working from home.

Awesome for somebody...but not me!

Sick of punk music. Why does punk music think it has an excuse to sound shit. Not much patience for it from me, which is fine, because this album is super short. Fave Track: Look Back & Laugh 2.5/5

Loud and in your face, as hardcore punk ought to be. But if I'm being honest I couldn't really get into this one. Heard plenty of elements within that were distilled into pop punk in subsequent generations (e.g., The Offspring). Sob Story and No Reason were solid, as was the closer Cashing In. Would have preferred a bit more thickness to the mixing. Overall a very high 2 to a very low 3 for me.

No thanks

Listened to this while cooking and it ended and played similar punk that I also didn't care for. I could definitely hear some influences for other music I do care for, but I just don't care for this.

Is this the shortest album? Either way it’s good cause 20 more min of the exact same thing would’ve started to get boring.

At least it was short

for sure I don't love punk, but really? on the top 1001? gah

Oh no - far too angry for someone of my age.

One of those punk albums where everything just blends into a fuzz. Can't really make out the lyrics or the guitar. Makes it all seem very flat. Not for us.

The energy here is absolutely unhinged, but it’s a rage I can't relate to anymore. A relentless sonic assault. That commitment to speed is genuinely impressive, but honestly, it just makes me tense up and want to fast-forward. Spins: 1 Playlist Additions Betray Cashing In

Sure a punk album, not suited for my teste tho. A nice listening tho 2/5

Not my cup of tea. But nice album cover.

I appreciate how short that was, which is the thing I like most about hardcore punk like this. Godspeed, young punks.

Not sure what this style is but I don’t like it.

I appreciate how short this is. But won’t listen to it again

I understand that this is a landmark album in the hardcore punk scene but I'm just not a fan. In college, I was surrounded by kids who would play hardcore music constantly. I even went to a few shows with them. But I never saw the appeal. Personal opinion here but it always felt to me like it lacked any teeth. It's like an angry declawed cat trying desperately to scratch you until it gets too tired. It might seem a bit scary until you realize how safe it really is. The songs all sound incomplete and like the band just stopped trying and moved on to the next one. On top of that, there are so many of these artists who sound exactly alike that it just bores me to tears. Apologies to fans of hardcore and Minor Threat, including some of my closest friends. You're all clearly seeing something that I can't. So enjoy but it's not for me.

★★½

Not really good ~ but at least it was short.

'My First Rebellion'. This album is the monotonous, repetitive herd of white sheep - I am the black one, bounding far away.

This is kind of impossible to hear objectively with the decades of accumulated layers encrusted over it, from Fugazi and from the various punk movements it inspired and influenced. It's deep, earnest self-righteousness is a little eye-rolling to me now, but that's not really fair. It was a massive (sub)cultural moment at its release, even if it's a little baffling today. Still has an unstoppable energy and sounds like a shot of undiluted youth, which I suppose it is and always will be.

wow!!! honestly i support them cause juyeon says he fights for a cause and we find that sexy but this album i will never go back to it LMAO but i loved that one song that felt very bass heavy. i'm a slut for a bassist!

Solid hardcore but would prefer more melody. Top tracks: Cashing In / Little Friend

Hardcore punk. Not my cup of tea, but respect the era!

I managed to find 1 song I that was worthy of my listening. I have to keep reminding myself some of these albums are pre-internet thus the reason I have never heard of them. And why I did not pick it up on MTV is also odd since that was one of the few forms of entertainment us Genexers had. I wonder if they blasted this album in the arcades 🤔 Anywho. Sorry to say another one did cut the mustard <-- what does that even mean?

pretty fun but doesn't really stand out to me as top-tier punk rock.

Панк да и панк. Даже не похоже на хардкор-панк

It's the sort of punk I don't care for. All the songs sound the same.

No thank you. Was not impressed

Coming in under 22 minutes, it's a pretty quick listen. Hardcore punk has never really been my thing, but I was surprised to see this was from 1983. Sounds ahead of it's time for sure.

jo ändå rätt bra, fokuserade nt så mkt så allt lät ganska samma

not my thing....Social D is my only punk band!

Whatever. Short

Ok 2/5

Fine but nothing memorable

Definitely not my thing. I can see why people who dig punk like it- but I don’t dig punk

It was fine, but not my favorite style of music. A few nice guitar/bass rifts.

It's hardcore punk but it sounds like music

If I had been handed a tape of this instead of Kill 'em All back in 83/84, I wonder if my life would have been different. Make no mistake, we had a great time, but I could have used a little more of this in my life. Both are aggressive, dark and with a pinch of quirkiness. The sound quality of the original release have been "improved" by youtube fan remasters, tweaking the drums and bringing the vocals a little bit forward, which definitely helped me to understand the lyrics better. Overall, the lyrics just aren't as deep or relevant as I had hoped when I started the album. And I don't have the urge to immediately replay. I came into the album with a strong desire for it to be a banger, but am leaving disappointed.

Music wasn’t bad and the songs were short, but I got tired of the shouty singer really quickly.

blissfully short. i really don't go for this genre although this album was at least somewhat listenable

Emmm, proto-Fugazi (which I, crazy as it sounds, used to think were inaccessible hardcore), but, and I don’t think I’m making the same mistake here, listenable only as history.

I hate this brand of punk rock, but thankfully it was mercifully short, and that works in its favor, this kind of high energy "fuck you" music is best in small doses, and some good guitar work too. Outside that I cant find anything else I liked or even tolerated.

21 minutes of hardcore punk music? Alright that’s fine. Not really my thing but for some reason I kind of dug this one. Not enough to rate it higher than 2 but not enough to give it the standard 1. That bass sounded really nice at times and the guitar tone was pretty nice too!

I like the guitar riffs and the aggressive energy but I wasn't really grabbed my this. Maybe it's the lack of melody and hooks.

I wasn't too impressed by this album, but "Cashing In" was a pretty good track to end this short album on. Also, the artwork is cute.

I get the appeal and these are good tunes but I do get a little worn out by the voice of the guy

Not much to this one. My. These lads sound angry. Many songs seem to be the same song. 2.3

Punk muy gritón, algún track me entretuvo pero not my cup of tea. Agradecí que dura tan solo 21 minutos, pero no sé qué hace por aquí.

Some stuff I liked… most I did not

22 minutes of the same song 9 times. I felt nothing when I listened to this. I didn’t feel threatened, not even minorly. 1001 album worthy: no - 85/155

In the late 80's early 90's my introduction to punk was my cousins hand me down cassettes. The Ramones, Black Flag, The Dead Boys, The Clash, The Stooges...just to name a few. I was aware of Minor threat but since my cousin didn't have the tapes, I never heard them. This is my first real listen and to be honest if had heard it then I would have loved them, but as a 47 year old man it just gives me slight anxiety ,lol. But I think that's what punk is SUPPOSED to do to 47 year old men, lol.

It’s short aggressive and punches hard . I hear it’s historically important , it def is punk

A few songs are cool, after a while, there is no dynamics, no contrast, i guess it's relevant in certain punk circles, but I don't know if this album transcends that.

Punk isnt really my genre. Especially not this kind. That being said some songs are okay I my book.

It gets in shouts you in the face, hast some interesting harmonies and guitar solos and the gets out. If that's what you like about Hardcore Punk give it a try, for me too screamy.

Punk music. Nothing special.

i get it. this is a super influential punk album that did a bunch of stuff for the genre. i didn't really vibe with it, truth be told. it was fine, but definitely not something i would ever get back into.

All of a sudden I was halfway through it again, only noticed because I thought, it's been on a while... In fact it may have been on the third time around. Does that mean it was repetitive?

Another punk album on this list…

Not for me

As a 50+ year old, I just can’t take someone yelling at me for 22 minutes.

Mercifully short

I get what they're going for and this is probably very well respected in the punk community but it's not for me. At least it's short.

good that it's an EP. i wouldn't of been really able to listen to much more of it... it's just noise to me, sorta punk i'm not really into. though really can see an audience for it

Early punk

уважение к первопроходцам но это альбом не попал под зонтик "начала жанра не так тяжело слушать как секущей этап", просто много громкого панка не для меня

Time and time again, bad singing ruins a band's otherwise fine (even good) instrumental section. This is one of those times. The vocals sound drunken, half-baked, and horrendously produced. The lyrics are presumably important, but they're so buried in the mix (mostly obscured by the crash-heavy percussion) that all you can hear is vaguely melodic moaning. It brings the record down at least one full star. I do like that the guitar and bass kind of "flow around" each other. Together, they're large and in charge; chunky yet funky. They make certain elements of the music, like the riff in Cashing In, really pop. Unfortunately, not all tracks are created equal in this way. Despite the album's runtime being a mere 20 minutes, the consistent, aggressively high energy really starts to drag around the 10-minute mark (with the only upside being that the final track is a solid album finisher). Earlier songs like Betray and Look, Back & Laugh are also mild standouts. 2/5 Key tracks: Betray, Look Back & Laugh, Cashing In

1/9, 11%

Meh. Two stars.

Very grunge heavy not a terrific album to listen to the whole way through.

I get that this album may have its place in history, but it has no place in my history.

Not my thing. Fine, punk, short.

Too fast

# 440 : 20/03/2025 : Reminds me of a high school band trying too hard and not really in tune with each other.

I understand the historic/musical importance of hardcore bands like these, but it’s hard to listen to. Luckily it’s often over before you know it. 21 minutes is completely fine

not bad but still just kinda whatever punk

Meh. When’s it’s more melodic and not just out-of-sync yelling it’s pretty decent but that’s not much of the record. 4/10

You know, at least this album was really short. It was really just a headache though. I was 4 songs in and didn’t even realize I was they all sounded so much the same.

The best thing about this album is it's length. I was pretty bored the whole way through, but at least it was short so that's nice Standouts No Reason Cashing In 2/5

Unimpressed

Like most punk, this one unapologetically shits the bed. Usually I can at least enjoy the musicianship of a punk album but this time I genuinely don't know when a song ended and a new one began. EVERYTHING sounded the same throughout. Noise for the sake of noise

Regular punk. Boring.

Please stop giving me albums where they just yell at me - although this yelling wasn't as bad as the previous yelling.

Punk is probably my least favorite genre.

Hardcore straight edge noise ain’t for me. No hate just nothing to hang my hat on here

I feel this to be an exclamation mark of an album (!). But, despite the energy, I found it a little tiresome. It's like too much of a good thing makes you feel a little sick ... well, this was not enough of a good thing - played very loud and fast ... making me feel a little bored. Not even the fun of the too much bit before I got sick of it. Maybe calm down and think about the lyrics. And melody. Then speed it up. Don't start at 100mph and crash into a wall. Pointless. Just saying. 5 for energy. 2 for interesting content.

It was only 21 minutes long, but completely wore out its welcome for me in 15. Not terrible, but one-note and extremely tiresome to listen to.

These boys are very angry about ... Umm ... Something? I did listen to the album and read some of the lyrics, but I couldn't tell you whether they didn't get enough pocket money when they were little or they were getting about the injustice of the capitalist machine.

Bien !! No es mi predilección

This goddamn book keeps feeding me punk, and I keep asking it not to :(

I like this kind of thing in short bursts maybe but man a full album of this is way too corny.

Why on earth is this on this list? Shortest album ever with 21 minutes? I do not know if that's true (there are EPs longer than that). Other than that, this is just some fast punk stuff, and not very good.

Fast and furious but not for me.

just not my bag, scraped a 2

Not my thing.

Non-descript punk. Best thing about the album is that it's only 21 minutes long.

An extra star for being only 21 minutes long

I have a lot of respect for the energy and emotions that were put into recording this. But outside of going to see bands perform live (which I used to do a lot growing up) I don't really enjoy listening to punk. I can't really see myself going back to this.

A solid punk album. I find that I am either in the mood for this sound or it grates terribly. There is no in between. I like Minor Threat and could see myself revisiting this when I am in the mood. Much like Megadeth, I give this 2.5 stars.

This isn't all terrible - but most of it is.

Ill step out on this one

Good thing it wasn't very long. If it went on much longer it would've been turned off and given 1 star

Biisit pitenevät ja materiaali heikkenee yhdellä kertaa. LP löytää loppullisen vaihteen vasta edelliseltä EP:ltä kierrätetyn nimikkobiisin kohdalla. Se on lyhyt, suoraviivainen ja tarttuva HC-biisi. 2,5

No thanks

First listen. Ok.

Sounded all the same and hard to understand the lyrics. Just not my style of music.

meh. Normally I like the fast punk feel of stuff like this but this didn't do it for me. Really hard to understand the dude, lyrics were okay. Songs just felt very much like copies of each other. Not really a huge fan of this but it was short so had that going for it.

Short album. It was fun but there are many other punk albums I would rather go to. I think after a while they started to get really repetitive especially the vocals Favorite songs: Look Back & Laugh, Sob Story, Cashing In

Too screamy for me (at least it was a very short album!)

The best part of this was that it was only 22 minutes. That, plus a decent energy to some of the tracks, saves this from being a 1. Would love 1.5 if available. Not my jam.

Not my favorite.

This sort of shouty angry stuff just doesn’t do it for me. I would imagine a large part of the appeal of this would be experiencing it live. I’ve never understood the moshing thing though. Aggressive masculine energy. Better than the Black Flag offering though

I was never a big fan of hardcore punk so I knew exactly what I was in for. Thankfully, at only 21 minutes, this didn't overstay its welcome.

I started at 3 stars. But then I recognized that (-1) There are better versions of early punk rock and (-1) The vocals here are annoying. Still I will give 2 stars because it wasn’t bad enough for only 1 star.

I expected to hate this album, and while I did not love it, it wasn't bad. The singer actually added more melody to the vocal line than what I was expecting, and there were some unique up-beat syncopations by the band, who were tight in a genre that is easy to be sloppy. I wouldn't put it on this particular list, so it loses a star, but the album is not bad for hardcore punk.

Punk is not really my thing. I do like some of the more pop punk sounding bands, but this type of I guess gutter punk? Is not melodic enough for me. These guys do have an energetic, raw sound. The guitar sound reminds me a lot of The Offspring guitar tone.

I didn't hate it but it just wasn't my cup of tea fr fr. Top 3 Fav: no bad no good Top 3 Worst: no bad no good 2.5/5

Not very much into it. “You had to be there to feel it” vibes.

Not my kind of punk

Not into punk these days

My girlfriend will probably be disappointed in me for this but I just really can’t get into punk music like this. It’s all too quick and rushed for my liking. I did appreciate the short tracks though, not enough of that on this list!

I could potentially like the music here but the hell was up with the singer?! He sounded abit like Jan-Willem in meetings to me. With a good singer I might have given it a 3 or 4.

Too punky. The songs are barely distinguishable

short, lots of energy, but the sound is terrible

Tough, edgy punk. I've seen a million Minor Threat t-shirts at metal shows throughout the years but they never really did enough for me to want to don one. There's just something charming and yet also boring when listening to this album and one song ends and another begins. Each song has essentially the same tones, mic placements, production elements, and when one riff ends it sounds like only a second passes before the next riff (and song) begins. It's kind of kitschy in a sense like "hell yea keep this train rolling", but also beckons a "eh here's another one". I respect it but it's not my favorite type of punk.

2,5 als het kon

It least it was over quickly.

Favorite: It Follows Least Favorite: Sob Story

Hardcore punk - but wasn't punk already dead by 1983? More like thrash metal than the punk that I remember.

i cannooot get behind punk i just dont like iittttt :(

Feel woozy. Not in a good way. Threat level understated.

not for me :)

This is one kind of music I try to avoid.

Too much hurty ears this week for the love of Pete.

Wow, that woke me up...but a 22 minute album? Not enough quantity or quality.

I love that albums like this happened and the impact this had on punk, post-punk and all the guitar music that came after it. But that doesn’t make it that great to listen to. Would it have hurt to give your angst a bit more of a tune? I’ll tick it off and move on.

July 18, 2024 HL: “Betray”, “Cashing” From what I gather, the influence it had on 90’s punk & grunge, as well as thrash metal makes this a worthy inclusion on this list. I just don’t find it that fun to listen to

decnt punk.

Punky and snappy but a bit too shouty. To the point where I didn't really know what was going on, if I'm honest.

Just background sound.

Not terrible but not good either.

would go hard if i was playing a skating game

Not a bad album but all of the songs sound the same to me.

Didn't do it for me.

A fine early punk album. Nothing great, nothing terrible. Just perfectly acceptable

Think i dont like punk!

Enjoyed it for a bit then grew tired of it

I think I’m not angry enough these days to appreciate this but can hear the influence it had on a lot of stuff I did listen to.

never heard of them. all sounds the same

Ok. Was 90s punk before the 90s

A solid hardcore punk album that does what it should. Great production value for a punk album. Just not my head space these days, tho I'd probably like it to mow the lawn to.

Lacks irony for me and I don’t like screamy kid vocals. Prefer the melody of UK punk - much more digestible.

A bit too much yelling and not enough songs id like to listen to with the volume above 0

Glad it was only 20 minutes long.

En svag tvåa. Bara för att jag är snäll.

I'm getting the impression that there's rather too much "hardcore punk" on this list. At least this lot can manage a power chord or two in an interesting way.

I respect the musicality of Minor Threat’s one and only album, but there’s just not a lot I am able to take out of it.

Punk hasn’t changed much.

A big milestone in the hardcore music history, but it's equally hardcore for a normal person to listen to it nowadays. Good outro song, when they finally slowed down the tempo for a minute, but all the rest was quite incomprehensible mess, which I didn't enjoy in the slightest. I'm pretty disappointed, I thought it would be a much better album.

I can't choose more than ⭐⭐. But, as always, it's totally subjective!

Good length

Hmm ok

not a huge hardcore punk guy, but this was aight

Why do people like punk

Did not dig. Too punk for me

I'm not a big hardcore fan but that was a half decent listen.

Screamy punk

Fast drumming! INCOHERENT YELLING!! Power chords! This album is 21 minutes and 40 seconds long, or about 18 minutes and 36 seconds longer than my tolerance for it, because every song sounded the same. The only redeeming factor was the guitar; even if the riffs are simplistic, they're entertaining.

I love a 22 minute album. All the heart eye emojis for that, at least. The actual music...eh? I don't consider screaming to be singing.

J'étais sur mes gardes avant de lancer l'album mais la menace s'est en effet révélée mineure, celle-ci s'atténuant au bout d'une vingtaine de minutes à peine.

I'm not a punk efficianado by any means, but Sid & Nancy freaked me out enough as a child to discover the Sex Pistols at the ripe age of 14. Fast forward many years later and appreciating yacht rock more and more, I found this a bit wreckless and hard to listen to. The first couple of songs anyway. But then I appreciated the music the more I listened. But the lead vocals were horrendous. It's like the kids on the block were all afraid to sing and they got drunk uncle Larry to sit in with the band. The best song for me was when they were trying almost spoken word.

The music was cool, the attempted singing was dreadful.

p519. 1983. 2 stars. Foulmouthed, shouty proto Green Day without the tunes - "Cashing In" could well be a Green Day discard. Already 5 years behind the curve when it was issued. Curiosity value only.

Just okay

We get it. You're a black sheep.

Maybe I'm just getting old but all the songs sounded the same on this album.

Musically great, his voice is boring

Oh mais c'est le chanteur de Fugazi ! Bif bof hein

Not for me, too scream and unmelodic

Good but punk is not for me Might give it another shot

I liked some bass lines

my-mom ass album

sounded like the same song over and over. I like punk but this album shows why this group was so short lived.

Unintelligible vocals, songs all sound the same. Can clearly see the influence but on its own merits it's not good.

Nicht meins

i actually dislike this genre so much. i really can’t get behind it at all. it’s hardcore punk and as cool as this probably is live, this doesn’t translate to recorded media. i’m going to give this a 2/5 because i don’t like it but this wasn’t the worst thing i’ve ever heard.

It…sure is punk

Not my cup of punk.

im sorry i didnt really like this album very much i listened through twice at different times and really wanted to like it but its just not my kind of thing

not my style like adam said “too angry”

wikipedia informs me this album is some sort of landmark in punk rock. personally, i didn't hear it. i mean, yeah, it was definitely hardcore punk, but i was left wanting more. i guess other artists took inspiration from minor threat's only album, but i'm sure they did it better. for what it's worth, i like the album cover. the symbolism is easy enough to understand, but the more "basic" drawing of the black sheep, versus the others, sends it home.

Another hardcore punk album. I guess I still don't really dig hardcore punk. Go figure. In the scheme of things, this wasn't the worst that I have heard, though. But still not really good. This seems to be another piece of early-ish punk history. One thing I can say that I like about hardcore punk is that they're usually quick and to the point.

Pretty cool and It’s definitely super influential but I just didn’t enjoy listening to it. Hard to get past the vocals.

Один из самых невзрачных панкушников на моей памяти. гитары ебашат, барабаны хуярят, все как надо но вспоминаешь КИЛ КИЛ КИЛ ЗЕ ПУР и понимаешь, что ну вот это ну ни в какое сравнение

It’s a punk band lmao I no likey

2.5/10 The original purateens. I was here, in punk clubs and this shit just never grabbed me. This could be fun in a live, sweaty punk club, but it doesn’t need to be an album. Is there anything more annoying than being scolded by a know it all teen? No.

There are worse punk albums

I don't like punk, so hardcore punk like this, I rather dislike it. Thank God it's short. I'll put it at a two, but a light two. I guess my favourite song was Betray? Couldn't really tell them apart.

At least it was short… I owned the Complete Discography disc at one point. Could’ve sworn I still had it, but I probably traded it in because I couldn’t get into it and never listened to it. I like Fugazi and even some Rites of Spring. I think I don’t much care for Ian McKaye’s voice. I can handle it in Fugazi; he doesn’t scream as much, plus he shares lead with vocals with Picciotto, so it balances out a little. I think it also helps Picciotto shares songwriting duty too. I’m no expert, but I’d say he keeps them from making every song into anti-capitalist screed. There’s only so many times you want to hear the Communist Manifesto set to music. Also, I can’t take the jackhammer rhythms of most hardcore. There comes a point where playing fast becomes almost meaningless because everything blurs together into pounding noise. I like the few songs here where things slow down some. There are a few monster riffs here and there that are cool. Otherwise, this really isn’t my thing at all.

Maybe the most abrasive vocals of any punk/hardcore band I've heard. Maybe not my genre overall but I did dig the punchy bass parts on Think Again. I didn't make it past the third track and instead listened to a more listenable punk album from 2 years earlier, the very uneven debut album from Bad Religion. I'm dismayed that none of their albums were deemed worthy of this list.

Betray - 7.5/10 It Follows - 7.5/10 Think again - 7.5/10 Look Back & Laugh - 7.5/10 Sob Story - 7/10 No Reason - 7.5/10 Little Friend - 7.5/10 Out of Step - 7/10 Cashing In - 8/10 TOTAL - 67/90

It is a short punk album. I had never heard of them before. It was alright. It got a little screaming but it was not terrible.

There's probably a handful of really good, non-derivative US hardcore bands and Minor Threat is not one of them

Imagine RATM but like, reallly not that good. Lacks any subtletly or originality. Overall, the songs were not terrible though.

I find punk singing annoying.

Not enjoyable

A nice punk album that feels too long even though it's super short. Not a good sign, eh?

Finally, Minor Threat are more to me than just a line in a Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip song. This has got a fair bit going for it: - The guitars in particular sound like a lot of the punk/pop-punk bands of the 90s and beyond. Clearly their influence was far reaching. - There are a few nice changes of pace mid-track. - There's some wry humour in the lyrics. - It must be the shortest album on the list? So no time to get bored, in theory. - The album cover has sheep on it. Despite all this it didn't really click for me - I guess it's less than the sum of its parts. I probably wouldn't take 20 minutes out to listen again, and for that reason I'll have to give it 2.5 stars.

One small step for a band, one giant leap for US Punk-kind.

BADDDD

Meh, aika monta parempaakin löytyy samasta genrestä.

ˡᵐᵃᵒ ᵃⁿ ᵃˡᵇᵘᵐ ᶠᵒʳ ᵃⁿᵗˢ

For something I don’t enjoy and won’t listen to again, I found this interesting.

One hopes everyone feels all better now and has go the jokey protest out of their systems. And one wonders if everyone would have been better off drinking and drugging after all.

Wow this was short and sharp. Luke really likes Minor Threat and has apparently played it to me before. I don't really remember and tbh this sort of blurred into Mud Honey for me. It didn't leave much of an impression on me

I was gonna make a “thank god it’s only 20 minutes” joke when I saw that it was hardcore punk but it’s unfortunately not *that* bad. However, I would still say that if it was longer than like half an hour I would hate it a lot more than I do. This is also probably the most juvenile punk album I’ve gotten at least lyric wise. High 2

BL: Aware of Minor Threat but never listened to any of their discography, will see what I think AL: it was just very samey. Most of the tracks felt pretty similar, and it felt quite sanitised. For a punk album it didn’t really feel that angry at anything in particular. Didn’t enjoy this one but it wasn’t massively offensive. Just don’t particularly want to listen to it again. FT: “it follows” 2/5

Don't really enjoy this kind of music. Not my cup of tea. I don't understand how this is on the list.

So shouty!

Was really not in the mood for punk today and didn't enjoy it particularly. Might come back to this one for a relisten later.

Skeittipunkille on kyllä oma paikkansa ja aikansa, mutta ei tämä sillein musikaalisesti levynä ole niin kiinnostavaa tässä ajassa.

Jackson Pollock: Wounding. My ears be bleeding, if this wasn't 20 mins it would be off. Fav: None Least Fav: All Overall: It isnt bad enough to deserve a 1, but its a 2.

This was some tough punk music. I can see why people who like punk music would like this because it felt raw and twisted. I have a hard time enjoying punk music and this album didn’t seem much different. Angry, young and talented that’s how I would describe some good punk music and this fit that but it’s not something I can enjoy. 4.0/10

Best Song: Little Friend. Juvenile and noisy in the right way. Worst Song: Cashing In. The spoken word "Wizard of Oz" bit probably sounded more artistic in their heads, but it just sounds amateurish. Overall: The sound of largely impotent (directionless?) rage. Everything sputters everywhere, briefly. It honestly doesn't feel like there's even enough here to comment on. It's nice and noisy, but not so interesting.

Not for me. Wasn't terrible but I just wasn't into it. 2*

Found it boring and monotonous.

Look Back and Laugh was quite good! The rest sort of blurred past me. Not a huge fan of this album based on one listen.

Just sounded like one 20 minute song.

I didn't mind it. Glad it was short though.

I listened to this on the way to work. It was good but nothing memorable.

Not bad, but honestly not very impressive either. While I'm glad it's a short 20 minute album as I don't think I could listen to more than that, it unfortunately has no standouts and kind of amalgamates into one big ball of fast noise and yelling instead of singing

I can appreciate how this album influenced other bands but as a standalone album, I didn't think it was that great. If this was my first experience with punk I think I would have written off the genre altogether.

I thought a lot of this album was chaotic BUT I could hear a lot of punk influence in later albums, like Blink, Green Day and Sum 41 so that I appreciated. I would have liked more variety to the sound overall.

Every song sounded the same. Music was pretty good, singing was pretty terrible.

A blink-and-you'll-miss-it ripper of a punk LP. Leaning towards a low 3 on this one, while fun and energetic it does feel somewhat homogenous and overlong even for its 21-minute run time.

Meh. Can fit in the right vibe, but it seems like Punk is generally not mine

Court mais intense

ils ont fait l'album comme si ils savaient qu'on avait pas envie de les écouter plus de 20 minutes, une vraie leçon d'humilité

This album feels uncoordinated. The songs sound like they are an instrumental with lyrics randomly yelled over it. Overall, this album was just okay.

Glad this one was only 21 minutes long. I understand that there are many hardcore punk fans out there, but there are numerous other genres that I would rather listen to.

Quite annoying and only an EP. 4/10

A high-energy start to my random journey into the 1001! I'd never heard of this hardcore punk band, which Simon and Peter will probably find either hilarious or appalling. No doubt they were very influential on lots of punk-rock bands that followed, including the ones that I did listen to. It's not something I'd listen to again - the angry but mostly incoherent vocals were a bit too same-samey for me - but I appreciated hearing it for its place in music history. Good variety and change-ups in the arrangements, which isn't always the way for hard & fast punk rock.

Not really my bag. But they do what they do do well. I do like the sound of the bass-playing.

Minor Threat are massively influential on punk/hardcore. This was their only album and so I see why it was on this list, and the critical consensus is that they were becoming more adventurous with their musical structures and reflecting on their own thematic concerns on contributions. But, really, it is their early singles that wrote the playbook for hardcore (esp. straight edge) and should be the required listening. I am glad I listened to this, but don't feel the need to ever listen again. (I find hardcore fun live, but find recorded hardcore inessential and repetitive).

Not great for work listening

Punk is a very hard listen for me. Every song sounded exactly the same. With that being said, cashing in was my favorite track and the slowest on the album.

What a waste of time and anger. There seems a distant chance Ian Mc has a sense of humor about this ... but it's distant. One pities all the people who had these t-shirts, as if the in-joke was worth knowing.

Pas atroce mais j'en peux plus du rock

I've propbably heard a track from Minor Threat, but never listened to the band. I'm glad the tracks were short. All of the vocals are yelling or talking. The music is related to punk with influences from metal. I did not enjoy listening to this album.

Started well, then got annoying.

Okay I get it. You put your ears in a blender and you power it with angst and rage for around twenty minutes. I get it. But that doesn't mean that I enjoy it. Still, it's remarkably better than the Circle Jerks album that I got a while ago. And that closing track is a beast!

Very shouty, fast guitar rock - sort of post-punk. Nothing special, why is it on this list?

if you like punk

Sounds like they did it all in one take, and didn't throw anything away. I get that it's the genre, but why?

May be influential but not for me

Only 20 minutes long and I still had to take a break. Not a fan of the vocals or the wall of noise, myself.

Fine, good, 1983 hardcore. No hits for me to remember, but the skill is there.

I listened to a little hardcore punk back in the 80s when it was more prevalent, so I wouldn't be surprised if I've heard these guys or this album before, I just have no memory of it. They are a good example of the sound of that time and genre. They play real tight. It's a bit same-sounding and too thrashy at times for me, but it's performed and recorded really well. Not the kind of music I listen to anymore, so I doubt I'll revisit this one.

Apparently super influential and a turning point in musical history. Don’t really see that myself. At 20mins at least it did not out stay it’s welcome

bad fast rock

I couldn't tell the difference between these songs

First Listen. Never heard of these guys before. Good punk rock. I enjoyed it. Like to hear more. 2/5

Another trim range of music and vocals. Lots of influence over later bands such as early Offspring

Not a one of these could be sung a Capella... The energizer bunny tires out before this drummer. Not a fan

Nothing like starting the day with some good punk rock. Iconic.

Nicht schlecht, aber höre sowas einfach nicht mehr...

Gitarre differenzierter als erwartet Gesang gewollte Katastrophe Hardcore Punk halt

Not my taste, too noisy and aggressive. Good bass work all the same.

Some nice melodies hidden behind the scratchy guitars. Straight edge baby!

Precursor to Nirvana. 80s punk rock. Not awful.

Das Tempo und die Gitarren sind toll, der Gesang ist mir leider zu monoton um es lange zu hören.

Doesn't take long for fatigue to set in when an album is as bombastic as this. Simply too much going on to recommend.

It likely comes as no surprise this isn't my punk cup of tea. Reason number 1: one dimensional anger. Reason number 2: not a single melody, just yelling. I had a terrible temper as a 5 year old. I punched a couple holes in my bedroom walls. My parents had a tough time knowing how to handle it. Who knows why I was angry. It generally felt like some form of injustice, but who knows what specifically. I probably didn't get something I wanted and lost my temper frequently. I think 5 year old Ashton would've loved Minor Threat and whatever vague injustices they're getting ornery about. C- Postscript: straight edge is funny as hell. Especially violent vegan straight edge shows at noon on a Sunday.

My review which embodies the soul of this album: Not bad. Fun. Fast paced. Tight. One note. Short. Roots of Punk Rock/Hardcore. Lacks strong melodies. 2.

I'm not sure what made these boys so angry but it's been a while since I've seen a 22 minute album over nine tracks that is punk rock. After clash and ramones, I don't know why anyone would try to replicate that but these fellas gave it their best. Unfortunately, their best, just like their album and art, was out of step.
