Reviews (page 8 of 13)

Better than I remembered

some of the long jams get tired but rockin album with classics

I could talk about how the mixing on here is often bad or how the songs can tend to meander… but I won’t, this album rips.

early gold like crosstown traffic and the 15 minute long classic of voodoo chile help the early part of the album and the final 2 songs are incredible but the middle kinda drags it down from 5/5

Enjoyed this a lot! It was nice to experience it for the first time other than being a teenager trying and failing to work out how to play crosstown traffic. Much more diverse range of instrumentation than I associate with Hendrix

esto es como cuando ves la primera peli de zombis y te aburre tela, el pavo es un hacha de la guitarra pero ya hemos visto muchas cosas mas guapas

Classic Jimi. Its hard to understate the influence this album had on Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour and all the other blues rock based guitarists of that era. In a historical context I give this a 5/5 but since my current listening proclivities are riding a different wavelength, I’m feeling a 4/5.

Easy on the ears :)

Not as good as Are You Experienced, but there’s some really great stuff here. You have to sift through a bit of chaff, but the classics are still classic.

i dig it. it’s interesting to remember that hendrix was doing not just brilliant guitar stuff but also contributing to the foundations of experimental music/soundscapes/sound art. i mean this must have absolutely knocked the socks off anyone who heard it when it first came out. fav tracks: crosstown traffic; little miss strange; all along the watchtower; voodoo child (slight return)

loved ittttt. just very groovy and cool and catchy and interesting. there were some moments that made it feel like a precursor to Pink Floyd (1983…(A Merman I Should Turn To Be)) and it’s always fun to feel like I’m putting the pieces together to understand the broader context that famous music came out of, and to hear the sound evolve over time throughout movements/bands. fav tracks: Crosstown Traffic, Burning of the Midnight Lamp, All Along the Watchtower

Electric Ladyland is a mess, a beautiful mess. The fact it takes over an hour and 14 songs to get to All Along the Watchtower and Voodoo Child is fucking madness. Jimi is a god, no one has or will ever play like him. I absolutely love the panning, some of the best headphones songs ever are on this album but it’s too long, too much of a mess 8.3/10

The Jimi Hendrix Experience. We’ll My view on double albums has always been I’m not a huge fan. I can count probably one hand how many I actually like. Well this is ONE OF THEM. Stand Out Tracks Have you ever been (To Electric Ladyland) Crosstown Traffic (probably catchiest song here) Little Miss Strange (sung by Noel Redding) Gypsy Eyes 1983... (A Merman I Should Turn to Be) and of course the great Bob Dylan cover “All Along The Watchtower” This album is one of Hendrix’s best and though there is some fat that could be trimmed it all adds to the mood and feel. 4/5

Obviously great guitar work and composition but I feel this album suffers from excessive length and could’ve been cut down and made tighter. 3.7 stars

Of course Hendrix is super talented though some of these songs went on longer than they should

At #918, it's Jimi Hendrix! Last Jimi was.... album #286. Now this isn't one of those cases where I get to coast and revisit an old favourite; I only really knew his most popular songs before this challenge. Everything that isn't "Crosstown Traffic", "All Along the Watchtower" or "A Slight Return" is basically new to me. It's definitely a touchstone of psychedelia.... I probably shouldn't dwell on its length so soon after praising The White Album, S&M & Physical Graffiti, but the hazy, meandering structure did frustrate me a little. The last two songs are about as grand a finale as any album, and "Merman" did provide a journey that no other Hendrix song has provided. HL: "Voodoo Child (A Slight Return)", "1983....(A Merman I Should Turn to Be)", "Burning of the Midnight Lamp", "All Along the Watchtower"

Mind blowing look into Jimi's head. He did what he wanted to on this one. There are some massive highlights and, as a single disc I think it would be a 5er. But suffers from length and the challenge as a listener. Still cool as hell.

I really like the guitar the lyrics are ok and the instrumentals are nice overall its a great album and I highly recommend the album.

Pretty good

Watchtower and Voodoo Child forgive all noodling sins

What you’d expect from a Jimmy Hendrix album, outstanding guitar work. Loads of soul and rhythm. Technical masterpiece. Very layered. Also long! Psychedelic. Absolute insanity, what kind of sounds he gets out of his guitar. obviously inspired a lot of rock. Admire this very much, but not my kind of music.

The highs of this album are as good as any album, the middle sags a bit

Great album! Love lots of soul and blues, Hendrix is the 🐐

The GOAT guitarist, and his drummer never missing a beat...

Vodoo Chile 4/5

Good stuff. Non-radio Jimi is the best Jimi.

Some of this is bloated and unfocused — the result, obviously, of all the substances — but those criticisms are minor nits to the true genius of Jimi and the music that just poured out of him. Just an utter tragedy that this is the last album we got from him.

A solid rock album, that doesn't forget to rock hard even when drowning in loose psychedelia. There are short tight catchy songs as well as 15 minute trippy cosmic rock experiences. The dynamics between the drums and Jimmy's powerhouse guitars carry the whole album. Loved the tracks 'Voodoo Chile', 'Gypsy Eyes', '1983' and 'Voodoo Child (slight return).

As an album it is a little long and incohesive. However there are some great individual tracks here. Jimi could make the guitar sing.

Definitely what I would expect from Jimmy, psychedelic rock with lots of solos and jams. Many solid classics here, a strange Beatles knock off in one song, otherwise just a solid final outing by a legend.

You can't go wrong with Jimy Hendrix. Great album. His guitar sound is crisp and a-typical of his playing. I also liked his interpretation of Bob Dylan's All Along the Watchtower.

He is very good at guitar 👍

I really wanna like everything that Hendrix did, but there's some songs on here that don't wow me. Respect tho, so 4 stars

This feels blasphemous but it's a liiiiitle bit bloated. I felt like the highlights were REALLY good but a lot of the deep cuts were forgettable, so it doesn't work quite as well as a whole.

I love some of Jimi’s music, but he is a good example that even an incredible musician can be a disappointing songwriter

It is maybe a little meandering, and some parts sound more like well produced demos rather than actual tracks, but there is enough absolute quality here to outweigh it. Crosstown Traffic, Long Hot Summer Night and (of course) All Along The Watchtower and Voodoo Child (Slight Return) are just mesmerising.

Some great stuff, drones on a bit sometimes with psychedelic whatever

So fucking good. It's a notch down from "Are You Experienced", but still one of my absolute favorites.

In an hour-fifteen whirlwind of frenetic yet controlled rock, Hendrix and the rest of the Experience manufacture a truly sensual experience on the ears. Building on the constant backing of heavy blues rock, layers of psychedelia are piled up to construct mammoth tracks such as Voodoo Chile - lined with just-as-punchy shorter intermediate numbers, including the renowned classics of Crosstown Traffic, All Along the Watchtower and Voodoo Child (Slight Return). The complete package of rock, and the quintessential demonstration of Hendrix’s massiveness.

This deserves its place on the list. His version of All Along the Watchtower is one of the greatest songs of all time. I like that these recordings feel like an invitation to an intimate jam session. There were a few times I found myself disengaging during the more meandering songs, though. I think stoned me would love those songs and give the whole thing a 5, but overall it's a 4 for today.

Electric ladyland is the land beneath my pants

all along the watchtower best song on the album. voodoo child slight return is also great but because it’s SHORTER. i understand the long songs are journeys but like over 10 minutes is A LOT

I thought I had listened to this album before, as I owned a couple Hendrix CD's over the years. However, so much of the album seemed foreign and surprising to me, in a good way. I think it should have been cut down from the 74 minute runtime, especially the first 15 minute song. However, I was, overall, happy with the listen and would definitely listen to again. Though "Band of Gypsys" is still my favorite Hendrix album.

Great guitaring.

Again…Jimi, Jimi, Jimi!

This Jimi guy is pretty good at guitar. What an album. Amazing guitar playing, good vocals. Kept me entertained throughout despite being on the longer side (an hour and 15) and All Along the Watchtower being the last song on the album basically. Good stuff. 8/10 (4/5)

This was a commitment. I don’t usually enjoy a jam like this. I would prefer to see it live. But he can play guitar…and this is a more funky, rocking version of B.B. King. It’s a long album…and for me, if it had been a bit shorter, I could have enjoyed it more. As for it’s impact on the rock era, especially for its time, it is unmistakeable.

It is good musically. It is just not something I am going to love. Guitar is so good, but everything else is just fine. It's like having a star point guard but the rest of the team is league average.

Ratings: 5: I will happily play this album anytime 4: I may occasionally play this album of my own free will 3: I will happily listen to this if someone plays it in the background 2: I will tolerate this if it is playing in the background 1: I will leave the room if someone plays this in the background The only thing really keeping this from a 5 (I do enjoy this album quite a bit) is it can be a slog to get through in a single listen.

Very good.

"All Along the Watchtower" is certainly the highlight of this album. Hendrix once again demonstrates his prodigious skill on guitar. The album does seem a bit long and some of the songs ramble, but still time well spent giving this album a full listen.

Jimi Hendrix is a legend. This album has some timeless songs on it and some are just ok. His greatest hits are unmatched.

Jimi was a great songwriter/pop artist, as much as he was a guitarist. Here, he spends a lot of time in psychedelia and attempts soundscapes and long blues jams. These rarely hit, I'm afraid. I am more of a fan of the consistent "Bold as Love"

Another Jimi Hendrix album today? That means I've listened to most of his discography I'm glad I like Hendrix's music. The songs are great but a couple of them are a bit too long. Doesn't mean that the album was bad at all. 4 stars for "Electric Ladyland".

One of the most influential albums of All time. A Classic with so mich quality in it. love it. Its the Blueprint for so many Albums who came later in the 70s. In a way you cant rate it any other then 5 stars

Feels obligatory to give 5 stars from a cultural standpoint. I don’t know if I enjoyed it as much as 5 stars but then again I gave The Suburbs 4 stars and this feels better than that. I think I will give it 4 stars and start rating more critically overall.

Jimi and Mitch Mitchell, what more could you ask for? One could argue the sheer length of this double LP causes it to suffer from a lack of focus, but the style of blues emanating from Jimi's guitar is undeniably legendary. Really makes you wonder how his music/style would have continued to evolve were it not for his premature death.

Super important in the development of electric guitar and the implication it has to the wider world of rock. There's some real magic on this album, but it is unfortunately diluted a touch too much to justify a 5 star rating. When it's good, it's damn near untouchable, but it is a bit self indulgent at times.

This was really good, although it was a bit disorganized as a cohesive album from start to finish. Also, a little too long. This is probably an overall 4 just for the following tracks alone: Voodoo Chile, Crosstown Traffic, All Along the Watchtower, and Voodoo Child (Slight Return).

A little too noodly for me but it's still Jimi...

The best songs are at the end of the album. There's some cool guitarwork scattered through this album.

The Hendrix Eperience are real mad! This is a real hodge hodge of late sixties music. From inspiration such as The Beatles, The Byrds, Pink Floyd and Cream; Hendrix really is attentive and in tune with the music of the time. The band together as a unit isn't as tight as Pink Floyd or Cream even, but are really individual talents strung together to play the wildest shit of all time. The is not a world in which Atom Heart Mother or Court of the Crimson King or Cosmo's Factory exists without Electric Ladyland. Conceptually it's all over the place but the last two songs stand up as legend without a doubt. They are a different class! Good album, kind of messy but the writing is inspired and excited with just raw force and nothing much more intricate than that.

All Along the Watchtower has been a favorite for a loong time. So good.

His guitar playing is amazing!!!!

i listened to this before and i thought it was pretty nice but found the middle part to be a drag. the psychedelic effects were cool but got old for me. the highlights def make up for it though. 4 personal favs: crosstoen traffic, all along the watchtower, voodoo chile slight return

This list has been giving me a lot of late '60s/early '70s bluesy psychedelic rock lately. It's not a genre I dislike, but I don't listen to it all that much. It can get grating after a while. That said, I think Jimi was probably the pinnacle of bluesy psychedelic rock. This isn't my favorite record of his, but it doesn't get much better.

Yeah, Jimi is good and some songs I didn’t know plus the classics.

YAS LOVE

Not Jimi's best work, but still very enjoyable. There's a few very strong songs and a lot of mediocre songs with strong guitar-playing. It's a guitar rock album, so while there's not a whole lot of substance in the actual songwriting, it's fun to kick back and groove out.

I feel like I need to give this album a good rating. It's not really my jam, but it was still good.

Loved this, so ahead of it time. The production was fire. 8.5/10

Bom demais! Que viagem no tempo, os sons que jimi tirava na guitarra, à época, eram inovadores! Impressiona ver a influência de cada detalhe que ele imprime na guitarra em quase todos os guitarristas importantes atuais.

Many brilliant pieces but some self-indulgence in the 2nd half. 4.33

Pretty great

Not my favorite from Hendrix, but still Hendrix

Really liked the first few listens. Need more time to digest

Well it's Jimi, of course it's going to get 5 stars!! Never heard a whole Jimi album front to back. And the Gods Made Love. lol It's been a good album. Gonna give it 4 stars though.

hendrix.

This guy's pretty good!

Some fine guitarwork

Bangers

Was electric! Bet he lands ladies!!

There are some great tracks and love the feel of the album enough where it wasn’t as hard as I thought to listen to it all at once. There is a lot of pointless wandering Rating: 4.3

"Crosstown Traffic", "All Along The Watchtower", "Voodoo Chile" YES! The rest? Ehhhhhhh ... Still a classic though

Classic. This is a great one to experience again

This was a really solid project. I expected nothing less from Jimi though. Favorite song was Gypsy Eyes.

You can’t not give this a 4 - but some of the songs are poor when Jimi is singing but get good when he’s properly playing.

Generous 4, there's quite a bit of nonsense in there but some absolute bangers

Very good Hendrix but then again all of his stuff is very good. Fav Songs: Voodoo Chile & Voodoo Child (Slight Return).

90/100 Incredible. I heard a lot of things about this man but never listened. You often think to yourself "How good can someone actually be" But Jimi Hendrix just set a new standard for me when it comes to playing guitar. The Psychedelic vibes of this are incredible. This also does not sound like the 60s at all! I had to check the date again 5 songs in. Amazing album!

Verges on corny in the middle but finishes strong.

Really enjoyable all around. Dude can shred. Will probably listen again.

when i first heard this album back in high school i didnt like it. i appreciated the skill with which Jimi played but really only came away liking "Crosstown Traffic". listening again so many years later, im much more impressed by how everything comes together. its still not something id want to listen to all the time but i wouldnt mind throwing it on every now and then.

Good stuff for the most part. Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) may be the coolest song ever recorded.

Kind of carried by the ending but still excellent

A great classic album with a few hits but also some filler songs. Wonderful use of stereo, unlike the new music does. Solid album.

Has a few less played bangers. All Along the Watchtower being his only hit is still pretty wild to think about.

super super groovy. listened to this while studying so i didn't mind as much the songs that seemed to last a million years. I did feel like it was a little bloated and that a lot of the songs had similar themes and vibes that could have been cut. still pretty frickin awesome tho.

Really good record, don't get me wrong, but after re-listening to it thanks to this challenge, i feel like this record is kind of a mess. It reaches some of Hendrix's psychedelic peaks in crazy tracks such as in the two installments of "Voodoo Child" or in "1983", but i don't know, it's not like the whole record follows this crazy more progressive direction. Rather, there's some big inconsistency on the tracklist with a lot of the simpler blues cuts being filled to the brim with aimless jam sessions. I guess they can be fun in a live setting but i'm not feeling them among these spiritual giants that clearly are the highlights of the record. Though, i feel that this album also presents some very interesting guitar experiments too. Sure, sometimes they don't hit but man, tracks like "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" and "Little Miss Strange" give me the blues stank every time. Also, i really feel like tracks like "Gypsy Eyes" were big inspiration for the whole US psychedelic funk / soul of the seventies. Weird album, very dense and somewhat inconsistent, but with some really good highlights and a looot to dive into.

My rating is somewhere in between a 3.5 and a 4. Good! Too long.

Not my favorite Hendrix album. Personal enjoyment: 4/5 Relevance to this list: 5/5

Very very good, extremely consistent as well. Not a whole lot of personal standouts but it’s probably the best I’ve listened to so far in this list. Extremely inventive in the way the guitar sounds and songwriting. 7/10

He had one great album. This isn’t it. But, its fine. 4/5

I feel like Hendrix is something that you appreciate for different reasons as you get older. Early on, it was part of the classic rock canon for stoners and dudes who worshiped guitar gods. As time has gone on, I've come to appreciate the arrangements and supreme skills of the supporting cast, as well as the breadth of sounds and subjects in what is a pretty ambitious last album by Jimi and the band. A few overwrought/indulgent segments don't put it in that top top tier for me, but I'll definitely keep giving it the occasional listen.

Crosstown Traffic, Voodoo Child, All Along The Watchtower

⭐️1983, crosstown traffic Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Remembered some of the songs as just plain wacky but this time around I was feeling it.

Jimi-Jimi-Yeh

Better than Axis

I think this album really showcases Hendrix's unique sound and artistic vision. Some killers, some fillers, but overall solid.

Fantastic album by Jimi and his mates. 4.5 stars.

Mm, I'unno. It's great music—all the experimentation here of course has to be comended—but I just don't dig it as much as I do the simpler pop hits and face melters on the first two Experience albums. Don't get me wrong, I do love my fair share of cuts here:there's "All Along The Watchtower" and "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)", naturally, but I'm also all for "Crosstown Traffic" and the extended blues jam epic "Voodoo Child". But "House Burning Down", the entire second side excepting "Burning Of The Midnight Lamp"... Eh. Even "1983... (A Merman I Should Turn To Be)", as much as I recognize it as the centerpiece odyssey, isn't something I wanna listen to all the time. In short, I recognize it as Hendrix's most complete artistic statement, and I wish he'd lived longer to see what he could do next. My album preference doesn't make it any less of a 4, or even a 5. I just personally wouldn't return to this first over EXPERIENCED? or AXIS.

Psychedelic Rock that just has so many good riffs and solos from Mr. Hendrix.

Rock, punk and pop all in one... Jimi's best.

Electric Ladyland, Jimi Hendrix's final studio album with The Jimi Hendrix Experience, is a showcase of his immense talent, but it does feel a bit bloated and self-indulgent in places. Tracks like Voodoo Child (Slight Return) and All Along the Watchtower are undeniable gems, highlighting Hendrix's unparalleled guitar skills and innovative sound. However, the album's sprawling nature and experimental indulgences can make it feel less cohesive than his earlier work. Songs such as 1983...(A Merman I Should Turn to Be) showcase his willingness to explore and push boundaries, but they can sometimes feel excessive. Despite these flaws, Electric Ladyland is an essential listen for understanding Hendrix's artistic journey. The album offers glimpses of his evolving vision and hints at the direction he was heading in musically. While I appreciate the brilliance in tracks like Crosstown Traffic and Gypsy Eyes, I find myself drawn more to the raw energy and concise power of his previous albums, like Are You Experienced and Axis: Bold as Love. In the end, Electric Ladyland remains a testament to Hendrix's genius, even if it occasionally gets lost in its own ambition. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 5 STAND OUT TRACK - Burning of the Midnight Lamp

I mean, it’s Jimi Hendrix.

Jimi the man and the musician is a clear 5 out of 5 for me (in fact, I’d probably give him a 6). But I guess we’re judging the album, not the man, and I don’t think the album is worth a 5. There’s too much dross in there. But there’s also some beautiful bluesy soul grooves played in the way only Jimi can play. These three guys make such a unique and mesmerising sound that I could happily listen to this album any day, all day, over and over again. Jimi H. What a fucking legend.

15 minutes of voodoo child - that is all

I think it’s fair to say Hendrix was an awesome impactful guitarist, but still developing as a songwriter and still wildly experimenting with everything he did. Obvs the hits are the most impactful/enjoyable, but there’s a mix of interesting and not so throughout the rest. So as an artist you’d give him a 5, but not for the album as a whole.

Nice to listen to Jimi this far from the context of the times - overlooked mostly in view of his spectacularly innovative guitar playing, is that he was a very good vocalist and this album is packed with good stuff. Also, a lot of it is too long for my listening preferences, but that, too, was a trend of that era.

Love Jimi Hendrix. This was a long album and more free flowy than I expected.

Classics album. Not very polished on the songs that are produced more but love the songs that feel live. Those feel well thought

If the Guitar had a soul, Jimi Hendrix would had owned it and given it a voice.

4.5 "Well, I stand up next to a mountain and I chop it down with the edge of my hand" FUCK YEAH!

A great album for a lazy, rainy day smoking hash with a Bunson Burner and hot knives. The final two songs (All Along the Watchtower, Voodoo Child) are as good as a closing as any rock album ever.

This might have been better as a shorter album, but I still like it. Obviously, it peaks in the last two songs, but the rest is pretty good. However, it does run long. Some songs are also forgettable.

Great album. This album just rocks and has a really satisfying blues/psychedlic rock vibe. The musicianship is at such a high level across the album. The playing is creative and raw throughout. I'm sure there are better versed fans who could point out all the influences this album had on contemporary and future artists/bands, but this was just a damn good listen. ****

Classic album. Jimi Hendrix is a legend.

I’m excited to listen to. Full Hendrix album. I think I’ve only listened to collections of songs up til now. Well, I’ve always like Hendrix, this album proves how much he influenced so much music.

Classic. He’s remains one of the best.

A genius, at almost the peak of his powers (the best is yet to come, Project-wise). Is there a more electrifying sound than Crosstown Traffic's riff? It's hard to believe, listening to Jimi, that there are people who think Clapton is the better guitarist - he doesn't possess 1/10th of the soul or 1/100th of the funk.

As a whole this album posses a strong amount of B sides. Noodles where the sound was being discovered but not refined. However, in parts you have some absolutely, cataclysmic blues. Complete with the most righteous guitar exploration of the time. The guy was a maverick, so it’s no wonder the album would be experimental, regardless of that it is a majestic masterpiece of culture influence, wrapped up with some of the gnarliest hits of the century in rock and roll.

#217. The hits are undoubtedly fantastic, but honestly someone should have kept his noodling in check. There's a lot of meandering nonsense in the middle that honestly made the album less, not more. 4/5: almost

An amazing one wow

It's good

I mean, it’s Jimi!! Started enjoying the album after Voodoo Chile. Low 4

He was so talented on the guitar, but he definitely could’ve cut a few tracks from this album. Some of his noodling felt pointless. Still super fun to listen to.

i had been avoiding this because i was under the impression i disliked jimi hendrix but i *really* enjoyed it. 3.5

Crosstown Traffic // 1983... // All Along The Watchtower // Voodoo Child (Slight Return) 3.5/5

The final Jimi Hendrix Experience album with the full original line up before they disbanded, this album shows off a lot of creativity and at the time must have been an incredibly interesting listen. It does run a bit long and drags slightly in places which is why it's not a 5/5 for me, but "All Along The Watch Tower", "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)", "Crosstown Traffic" and "Come On (Let the Good Times Roll)" are just some of the highlights to be found here.

This album has a great soundscape to it that is maybe a greater artistic achievement than previous Hendrix albums. I feel like I want to recognize its ambition but I also likely will not relisten to every track again if I were to go back. It is something I may play all the way through while working in the art studio.

Jimi doesn’t miss

beginning of the album dragged at times but man what a hell of a way to end it. House Burning Down -> Watchtower -> Voodoo Child (reprise) goes crazy

What’s not to love, it’s Jimi Hendrix

Great Album, I really liked it 4 stars!

I love this album. It has some radio hits and some great b-sides. All around great listen.

Good. Sounds like Jimi

Classic psychedelic rock blues funk. No idea what the words mean but hey, it rocks!

Genius. Not always the easiest listen, but what a pioneer.

GUITAR!!

Having never heard this album, I was interested to know if it would meet or even come close to the expectations set by "Axis" and "Are You Experienced" and I am happy to say a cut I made of this album does come close to those two albums. This is a five-star album if the track list is as follows: 1. Have You Ever Been 2. Crosstown Traffic 3. Voodoo Chile 4. Come On (Let the Good Times Roll) 5. Gypsy Eyes 6. Long Hot Summer Night 7. Little Miss Strange 8. All Along the Watchtower 9. Burning of the Midnight Lamp Double albums are always interesting to hear, because by my estimation there is usually about 20% filler on the album. There are exceptions and unfortunately even the best artists are prone to having this happen. So when listening to a double album, I tend to lower my expectations a bit because I understand that's a lot of music to release at one time. This is especially true for Jimi Hendrix, as he released three albums between May 1967 and October 1968. Making one of them a double album almost seems destined for failure and this album is not a failure. It does have filler and that's expected. If Hendrix had stuck to my playlist (and for some reason, he didn't ask me) then this would have been another 5-star album. Still, it's fun to hear and I would recommend it to fans of his first two albums.

Jimi mother effing Hendrix. A whole double album of bluesy guitar jams can be a bit much, but with such a small discography I find it more forgivable. And it’s still top shelf stuff at the end of the day

Swägä

A mess, but an enjoyable mess with some fantastic songs. Starts out pretty weak, then spends an hour being pretty good, before ending on basically the highest note any album has ever ended ("All Along the Watchtower" and "Voodoo Child"). Incredible guitar playing - does it even have to be said? 4/5.

Pretty good representation of Jimi's abilities.

You really can't go wrong with throwing on some Jimi. Electric Ladyland has a great mix of the different styles he could bring to the table. Crosstown Traffic and Gypsy Eyes have that classic, catchy Hendrix sound. 1983 moves more into and early prog rock style that offers a glimpse of what could have been. Finally you have an absolutely perfect pair of powerful closing tracks with All Along The Watchtower and Voodoo Child (Slight Return). The album really only stumbles a bit in terms of focus. The album is longer than it needs to be and some songs feel disjointed.

Got to love Hendrix and his unique style. It's simultaneously exciting and relaxing. He is one of the experts at giving personality to his guitar. It feels like the guitar is singing right there with him. There are some lulls in this album why is where it falls just short of a 5 for me.

Lots and lots of classic bangers, but it's rather self-indulgent of ol' Jimi. Even though of all of his contemporaries, he's the one most deserving of self-indulgence. Still a good record - definitely not my favourite of his freer, less clunky records.

good album. Stands the test of time

he is so swag

This double album is out there. Very psychadelic, with two 13+ minute, Acid induced songs on the record. The hits are high, but it feels like a lot of filler in the middle. Jimi was a master of his craft, there's no question, I just had a hard time maintaining focus through the never ending guitar solos and ambling song structure. Favourite songs: Voodoo Child (Slight Return), Crosstown Traffic, All Along the Watchtower, Come On (Let the Good Times Roll), Long Hot Summer Night Least favourite songs: "Still Raining, Still Dreaming", Little Miss Strange 4/5 because it is so Infamous, and has influenced so much.

🎸 Hendrix, still fire after all these years. 🔥

All along the watchtower = good

Longer than it needs to be, but you can't doubt the craft for a second.

Þetta á heima í dimmum kjallara þar sem fólk situr alls staðar, lokar augunum og bara hlustar. Elska þetta.

Electric Ladyland is probably Jimi's most iconic album and I can understand why. The wandering guitar solos on every song pair well with psychedelic imagery and lyrics. While it sometimes feels unfocused and samey, it is great music to vibe to. Best Songs: Crosstown Traffic, Little Miss Strange, All Along the Watchtower Worst Songs: ...And the Gods Made Love, Moon, Turn the Tides...

I liked this, but if I'm honest it wasn't amazing. I'd have to listen another couple times to figure out if I really like it.

Creative blues great guitar

Groovy

Briljant. Vooral dat 13 minuten nummer ertussen en dan die afwisseling met het experimentele eb en vloed nummer (mooi over je airpods). Dan vlak daarna All Along the Watchtower, mijn absolute absolute favoriet van Hendrix. Het einde met Voodoo Child kan ik ook waarderen. Maar man, wat heeft Hendrix met eerdergenoemd nummer de versie van Bob Dylan overtroffen. RIP.

good stuff I don't think I've listened to a whole album before

Jimi is een legend

Fun album. I do think I'd prefer a shorter version w/ shorter versions of the songs or less songs overall though. Still, I enjoyed it quite a bit. 3.75/5

Always found Electric Ladyland maybe not overrated, but a little overstuffed. It’s good, but didn’t have to be a double album imo, and some of the longer experiments definitely could be trimmed. The best stuff is as good as it gets, though. B+

Solid 4.5 album.

did not finish still really good tho

Klänge die bleiben

4-5 Allotta awesome songs. Some mediocre.

Kakelrauw album, Jimi Hendrix is een legend

More Hendrix - ok I suppose. I always thought this was a live recording. Lots of stuff in here that I never heard. All Along the Watchtower and Voodoo Child are awesome. Great stuff. Are You Experienced is better in my book though. Tragic death - who knows what this guy would have come up with next.

All the songs started to blend into one after some time. I excluded the two interludes from marking because it's just noise. "Crosstown Traffic", "All Along The Watchtower" and "Voodoo Child" are the highlights.

Beautiful guitar work in this one, absolute classic, nothing less expected from Jimi Hendryx. Very emotional tracks with a lot of power, songs like 1983 change the mood of the album a bit which is needed, it hits a great balance of emotions and energy. All Along The Watchtower and Crosstown Traffic are absolute classics. 9/10

He had me at 15 minute version of Voodoo Chile. Only 1 or two tracks weren’t great.

Un clasiquisimo, cuesta creer que es de antes de los 70s. No lo habia escuchado nunca completo pero me gustó mucho y mas por el increible arte de jimi. Buen disco

I like it, nice to listen to and aged well

I'm not usually a fan of overt guitar heroics, but Jimi Hendrix is a major exception. The songwriting is great and I love his voice (even if he didn't love it himself).

Extraordinario, virtuoso, discazo.

Enjoyed this

80% fantastic record - and has anyone ever sounded like Hendix before or after?

Hendrix is great, and he is great on this album. This is another example of an album that would've been a perfect with a little editing. A couple of great songs here, but a few that aren't so good. Overall it's very very solid, but doesn't quite hit the overall greatness of Are You Experienced

Great 60s rock album, but just a little too long for my personal preference I prefer Hendrix other 2 albums over this one. Still more than worthy of being on the list. And one I come back to now and again.

Huge Jimi Hendrix fan, so that affects my review. This album, much like the Beatles White (double) Album has a bit too much noodling around in between the best songs to make it a 5. If only the best songs were made into a single album, this would be a 5, but with the addition of some of the “extras” it brings it down to a 4.

#4 The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland (1968) Blues Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Acid Rock Hard Rock, Heavy Psych Lucky me, getting this classic so early in the list. Undeniably one of the most creative psych albums of all time, it holds absolutely zero punches. It is a bit too long though... Favourite Tracks: All Along the Watchtower, 1983... (A Merman I Should Turn to Be), Crosstown Traffic, Still Raining Still Dreaming, Voodoo Child (Slight Return), Come On (Let the Good Times Roll), House Burning Down Least Favourite Track: Burning of the Midnight Lamp

A great album some songs were way too long, but I liked the overall vibe.

This is a test

Classic classic classic!!!!

Track 1 is a very interesting intro. It sets up the listener for what is about to be played for the next hour. Not much to it. Not much to say about it. Track 2 is much more of an intro than track 1 was. The song is very sonically pleasing, and the electric guitar is played very well. The lyrics are very sensual and showcase Jimi Hendrix's desires. Track 3 has fantastic guitar playing in its intro. It starts off with a bang and immediately gets into the meat of the song. The entire song has a groove to it that makes you want to dance. Hendrix uses traffic as a simile for a woman slowing him down ("You're just like crosstown traffic."). I really enjoyed the line where he states he's turning from green to red in regards to his relationship with this woman. Overall, a fantastic track. The guitar in track 4 provides excellent backing for the entire track. So far, one thing that can be said for every track is that the guitar playing is phenomenal. I really like the energy shift at ~2:48. This happens several other times throughout the song. Along with his guitar-playing, Hendrix's songwriting skills are extremely well done. Different parts of this song are eclectic and full of energy, while others are very mellow. The drum section at ~9:00 is fantastic. The song has been largely guitar focused but this drum showcase is very good. The instrumental-only parts of this track are very impressive. Very long, but very good track. Track 5 has a different vibe to it, but I like it. The vocals sound like very similar to the Beatles. Not a huge fan of the lyrics, but the instrumental is good. The instrument at the end is fun to listen to. I enjoy track 6. I really like the delivery of the lyrics. It is much better than track 5. Per usual, the instrumentation is fantastic. He's gonna get rescued which is great. Track 7 starts off amazing. Truly letting the good times roll. Fantastic guitar solo at ~1:10. The track is good, just largely instrumental. Love the rhythm guitar in the opening of track 8. Jimi Hendrix loves a lot of different women. Now he loves "Gypsy Eyes." Not too much to say about this track. The problem I have so far is that a lot of these tracks feel like they blend together. Overall, a pretty solid track. The guitar in the intro of track 9 has a very different sound to it. It's starting to grow on me as the song progresses. The slow build-up of the track is extremely good. I like the lyrics on this song. This is one of my favorites so far. The saxophone on track 10 sounds fantastic. That paired with the guitar surprisingly complement each other very well. I wish there was more of it. Again, the instrumentation on this track is very well done. Love the guitar riff on track 11. That's one I want to play. The random feedback of microphones are getting annoying. It has been on several tracks. I understand its there to make it feel more raw, but it doesn't provide a great listening experience. These lyrics have a lot of depth that I want to look into more. The quieter part that starts at ~3:24 is really great. The vibe of this song is impeccable. This song as a full listening experience is fantastic. Random high-pitched sound at ~7:49 sounds really bad. Very intensive drumming at ~8:20 that I like a lot. The very faint wind instruments in the back are a nice touch. The melody change at ~11:22 is very sonically pleasing. I love how it sounds. The song as a whole might be a bit too long. Probably my favorite track on the album so far, but there are a few shortfalls. The pros outweigh the cons heavily on this one. Track 12 is an interlude. Not too much to say about it. I really like the intro to track 13. I love the overall vibe of this song. The instrumentation is outstanding as well. Love the backing vocals singing "Lay back and groove on a rainy day." Great track overall. Track 14 sounds fantastic. The lyrics are also great. Hendrix's storytelling skills are very good. Most of the tracks in this album keep you invested with the instrumentation, but this one focuses on lyrics. Really good stuff here. Track 15 is easily the best one on the album. Also the most famous. Not much to say on this song that hasn't already been said. I absolutely love the guitar riff on track 16. This song is a great way to end the album as a whole. Good lyrics, good instrumentation, great track. As a whole, I really enjoyed this album. The biggest shortcoming, however, comes from its length. The album definitely feels like its runtime, and as a result feels unfocused at several different points. But the pros on this album far outweigh the cons. The instrumentation and lyrics throughout the whole project where phenomenal. Overall, I highly enjoyed the album and will be revisiting it in the future. Favorite tracks: Crosstown Traffic, Voodoo Chile, Burning of the Midnight Lamp, 1983... (A Merman I Should Turn to Be), House Burning Down, All Along the Watchtower, Voodoo Child (Slight Return) Least Favorite: Little Miss Strange

Certainly an instrumental genius. Not every song is for me, but All Along the Watchtower is absolutely incredible and Have You Ever Been (To Electric Ladyland) has a fantastic chill sound. Not a fan of interludes and 10+ minute songs are tough for me, so not a flawless album for me personally.

Trippy intro 2 songs. Voodoo Chile - has a daunting 15 minute runtime but god damn, 5 minutes in and you just hear the soul coming out of the guitar, insane. It seems so improvised yet intentional. Super important to listen to with both earbuds so as not to miss the keys. Just when you think its fading out the drums comes in like its the final scene in whiplash and lo and behold theres still 6 minutes left in the song. Ive had a stink face on since the 4 minute mark because this song is NASTY. Burning of the midnight lamp has some real trippy guitar. Kill switch which sounds real nice in a car, the song went on a bit long though. You really hear the blues and jazz in every song. Tribe called quest uses a sample from rainy day, dream away which i caught. The producer really likes to fuck with the stereo sound coming left to right. 1983 lost me a bit, wasnt nearly as great of a long multipart song as voodoo chile. I was rockin pretty hard in traffic to still raining still dreaming, that song hit me to my core. Finally All Along The Watchtower was the first song i recognized on the whole album, its from something ive seen a lot. Maybe Forest Gump? Idk Great album, amazing for its time, so experimental and revolutionary.

Standouts: Crosstown Traffic, Gypsy Eyes, House Burning Down, All Along the Watchtower, Voodoo Child (Slight Return)

Voodoo Chile and All Along the Watchtower are perfection, obviously. The rest of the album is baggy by comparison, but it's Jimi. He'd earned it by this point.

loved it

Some of the songs where quite long which I enjoyed. Insane level of guitar playing, musically quite complex and will definitely take me a while to get into as I do not usually listen to this type of music often. I see why Jimi Hendrix is one of the greatest guitarists of all time. I feel that people who actually play electric guitar would appreciate this a lot more than me. My favourite song was "Have You Ever Been(To Electric Ladyland)".

Hendrix and the Experience recorded this double LP amidst turmoil and a frenzied state of party - to the point that Jimi's producer had to cut him off - and it shows in the output. Much of the album is dedicated to long unfocused jamming, rife with ear-shattering toms, loud hissing feedback (in stereo no less) and aimless blues riffs. It succeeds in pulling at the emotions of its listener, however, and those tracks which are tight really rip, obviously amongst which "Watchtower" and the "Voodoo Child" refrain shine brightest. It is exceptionally loud, occasionally quite clunky, and it meanders too long. The sound however is unmistakable and one cannot help but groove along at the peaks.

The album is a bit meandering but includes some truly great cuts that demonstrate Hendrix’s guitar virtuosity. And it certainly ends strong.

I feel like “All Along the Watchtower” and “Voodoo Child” ultimately save this album from a lower rating. As for the rest, I’m sure I would have enjoyed it more if I’d been listening at a music festival or at least on a substance of some sort. But while sitting at my desk… not so much.

2 great songs in my opinion, “all along the watchtower” and “voodoo child (slight return)” Was cool to find out there was a 15 min live blues version called “voodoo chile” which I also really enjoyed. The rest of the album, while it had some good guitar and drums, just did not really seem that exciting to me and seemed very dated, even “cross town traffic”. The 3 songs mentioned above and the fact that Hendrix is an icon boosts the album to a 4 for me for otherwise would have been a 3. Album cover pretty straightforward, you are buying Jimmy Hendrix so that’s what you see.

Bare god psykedelisk rock, vanvittig elguitar, måske en my for langt

An even spread of Very Good, Good, and Average tracks, but with only two or three Below Average tracks on an entire double album. My rating is 4/5.

One of my favourite albums

Can appreciate this album for what it is. It's great even if I wouldn't tend to reach for it in the collection.

Funky, comes on strong at the end.

Bangers. Great jamming tracks. Great for a road trip!

Molto carino e varieggiante

Tanta roba, molto fico e non conoscevo bene - riprendiamo un po' quota devo dire. La parte piu' elettronica mi mancava, poi vabb ultime due dell'albun bangers incredibili

Can't believe I've never sat down and listen to this album in its entirety. Voodoo Chile, 1983 and of course Jimi's cover of Dylan's All Along the Watchtower were the highlights for me.

Electric Ladyland is a good Jimi Hendrix album, but in my opinion, not a great one. With that being said, the strength of "Crosstown Traffic", "All Along the Watchtower" and "Voodoo Child" along with the first-of-its-kind guitar playing carry it to a strong four.

J: 3 N:4

I can hear Jimmy

Classic.

Some great songs here but the album loses focus a little.

Confounded that I liked it.

Pretty good album. My favourite song was 1983... (A Merman I Should Turn ti Be) or Rainy Day, Dream Away. One of them. Liked the whole album. 7.5-8/10

some awesome songs on it, 4 due to overall likeability

•Not owned: Streaming •Fantastic record with enormous talent—not limited to Hendrix, whose talent is not limited to the guitar—that marks the end of a fiery run. Hendrix's mastery of blues and psyche rock peaks across the track listing, most notably on the lost-in-time "Voodoo Chile" and "All Along the Watchtower". He somehow manages to not outshine his bandmates—even playing sideman on the still tight "Little Miss Strange". •4/5

Have you ever been +++ Long hot summer night +++ Still raining, still dreaming +++ All along the watchtower ++++ Vodoo child +++

I liked this album better than Are You Experienced, something about it just clicked more. Rock on Jimi.

Don't think I ever heard the whole (double) album. Bloated and awesome but rambling at times. Thought I'd love it more.

I’ve never heard Jimi Hendrix before. Just his name spoken through whispers. This is not what I expected him to sound like. I’m not even sure what I was expecting. Kinda reminds me of when I first heard Pink Floyd. Very talented. But this just isn’t the type of music I like to jam to. 7/10

8/10 I enjoyed the guitar riffs on this album a lot, they're very legendary even by today's standards. My only issues is that the sound quality is very dated, I wish a remastered version could be made but alas that isn't possible since Hendrix is no longer with us </3 also some of the songs feel unnecessarily drawn out

Descubriendo...

Jimi es bestia. La atmósfera del disco es todo.

Could've shortened it up a bit, Jimi. But the only song I really wanted to skip through was the 10 min. Voodoo Chile. Burning of the Midnight Lamp is on this one. Always loved that song, but forgot about it. Glad to rediscover it.

Voodoo child is an amazing song. It's long but great. Only Jimi Hendrix can play the guitar like that.

musical with great drum and gtr work and weird sounds generated from equipment..love it

psyche :)

Watchtower and Voodo Chile absolute classics

this album some of my favorite jimi songs in it: “gypsy eyes,” “come on (let the good times roll),” and “voodoo child.” “crosstown traffic” is also really good. some of the songs go on for too long and get boring, but i know jamming is kinda the whole point and the songs i do enjoy make up for it

Loved it

Jimi Hendrix is one of my favorite guitar players but this record feels a bit disconnected on itself as a whole and that’s the only reason I don’t give it 5 stars. It has so many great songs, though, including one of the best cover songs EVER made. [0118/1001]

Absolute banger. Have it on cassette too.

I liked it the vocals were so cool

I only started getting into Hendrix this year for some reason and hadn't made it to Electric Ladyland yet. I like how they continue to experiment with stereo panning on this album—there are a lot of cool effects and it's fun to listen to with headphones. Knowing how big of an influence Hendrix was on Robert Smith, the vocal delay/reverb effects on "1983 (A Merman I Should Turn to Be)" seem likely to be direct inspiration for songs like "A Short Term Effect" by The Cure. The album is full of great jams and insane guitar parts. I wasn't expecting to hear a different vocalist on "Little Miss Strange"—as great as Jimi is, it was kind of a nice change of pace coming off of the 15-minute "Voodoo Chile." If I have one complaint about this album, it's that it's super long. It has 16 tracks and the total runtime is 1:15; included in that are a 15-minute song and another almost 14-minute one. Because of that, I think a few other songs could have been cut. I'm not sure which, though. I'd have to listen to the album more to be able to pick out favorites.

Hendrix is without question the BEST rock guitar player who ever lived - a fact I just came up with out of thin air, but also confirmed by Rolling Stone. The songs on this seem to me either overly numbed or excessively energized, neither to a satisfying effect. BUT SO CLOSE it's a little frustrating for me. I don't think that was the intention. It's hard to say what the intention was. The music is just not completely formed. There's quite a bit of experimentation and what sounds like goofing that might have been left out. Heavy, innovative guitar sounds are sometimes squashed by the production: the stereo panning, the compression, the tape bouncing and flanging muddy the waters, if you will (see what I did there? Hendrix was kind of a blues guy? whatever, nevermind). Ladyland is great but not awesome, with flashes of brilliance so blinding you have go over it again to make sure you heard what you thought you did. Overall groovy album with a few rough spots here and there mostly from the production stuff. All the guitar panning made me dizzy. 😵 Not kidding.

Better than expected.

It’s three songs I absolutely love (1983 and the final two (duh)) and then a lot I think is just okay?

Never much of a Hendrix fan but in truth this is a pretty consistent album. 4 stars

First Hendrix album I’ve listened to from start to finish. Very upbeat. Extremely talented singer and guitarist. Edit: Just finished. Favorite track was All Along the Watchtower, which I’ve heard countless times. I can see where this record would have been groundbreaking at the time, but if it was released today, I don’t think it would have the same reception. Needless to say I did enjoy it.

A good album, but really long and lacks focus. Hendrix is a guitar god but yeah someone needed to tell him no.

Simply great!

Wow what an album! It’s seriously such a shame Jimi Hendrix died so young. Will be returning to this one a lot. My faves were All Along the Watchtower and 1983 Merman. Hendrix’s playing is so expressive it sounds like he’s talking through his tone.

Jimi Hendrix is someone I've never really listened to outside of a few hits. I enjoyed this album, and would probably listen to some of these tracks again.

already had listened to it. disc one side 2 is the weakest side but everything else is amazing

Quite long, but for the time period, what a piece of music.

Solid album with a lot of great hits. Would probably appreciate it more if I hadn't heard them before. The studio recording is a bit choppy but that's what it was in those days. 4/5

C'mon, it's JIMI! Maybe not all of his greatest hits, but the Watchtower/Voodoo Child (Slight Return) combo is a helluva way to close an album

4 stars

Jimi Hendrix is an iconic figure, one of the royals of rock. An innovator of electric guitar. Blah, blah, blah. Don’t get me wrong, I agree with those pronouncements, and have great respect for Hendrix. And in his short career (3 studio albums), he released some brilliant music. Probably 8-10 brilliant songs across those 18 months. But back to blah, blah, blah, and my point. For every brilliant Hendrix song, there’s a couple that are fine and the occasional one that I don’t like. The highs are VERY high, but there’s a lot of misses and lows. Electric Ladyland is a double album, 74 minutes run time. About 1/4 of it is as-good-as-it-gets, easy 5+ stars. But about 1/3 is below good. In my iTunes library, this album averages out to 3 stars. But here, the result is greater than the sum of the parts, and the album that closes with “All Along The Watchtower” and “Voodoo Child (Slight Return)” can’t rate below 4. 4/5

At times it sounds like you are in the studio with the band, listening to them play. It does ramble a little, but this is probably the most authentic of his albums to come out during Hendrix's time on earth. His guitar playing is still just so raw and unparalleled. 4/5 Will listen again

i think voodoo child is the greatest thing ever cut on plastic thank you jimi

Mindblowing jams from the legendary trio, as expected. It's just a bit inconsistent and hard to digest sometimes, but of course that's a common thing with rock double albums.

Some all-time classic tunes here! Some of the less heralded tracks don't hit the same highs as the greats, but nothing less than good on this one.

It's a voodoo album. What's not to love? 4/5

This album rules

I liked it but some songs were just too long

Love me some Jimi and this album’s no exception. Highlights: All Along the Watchtower, Voodoo Chile, Voodoo Child.

Deeper listen needed for this one at some point too! Still love All Along the Watchtower.

Little electric guitar shredding stuff good for the soul 4.5/5

Hippie music for hippies

While I don’t go back to this album often, you gotta respect the creativity and raw talent here. "Calm down folks, now just tell me what did the Jimster do?" - Hugh Neutron

Whoa I literally mentioned this album in my last review. NSA tapped my phone Really solid, one of the albums that got me into rock/psychedelic

Probably my least favorite Hendrix album. Jimi's performances are brilliant of course, but the overall work feels bloated and unfocused. Stylistically kind of a mess, running the gambit from tight and muscular to blistering and free-associative to downright self-indulgent. It's worth the full price of admission and then some to hear "All Along the Watchtower" and a handful of other songs, but there are way too many skipable tracks. Fave Songs: All Along the Watchtower, Voodoo Child (Slight Return), Crosstown Traffic, Gypsy Eyes, Voodoo Chile

husker den som Jimi Hendrix' værste studiealbum, og det er den måske, men det er stadig (næsten) wall to wall fede numre. Jeg er helt klar på 15 minutter lange jamnumre når det er Jimi Hendrix er jammer. Vanvittig afslutning med All Along The Watchtower > Voodoo Child

Fed, men double albums er godt nok lange 😅 Little Miss Strange er en mærkelig sang at smide på det her album 🤷

It was a very good album but it is entirely too long. There are two songs that are over 12 minutes each. This is unnecessary. The album finishes extremely strong with All Along the Watchtower and the best version of Voodoo Child. I enjoyed it but edit some of songs down and it would have gotten a five.

This is wonderful, for the most part. Brilliant guitar playing, some great sass in the lyrics, and an instantly recognisable, unique voice. Loads of variety in this one - Little Miss Strange sounds like a Beatles song, there's a couple of tracks that you can't really call anything other than prog, proper blues, and plenty of psychedelia. The album probably suffers a bit from that, at 75 minutes it's too long and I was ready for it to be over towards the end. But then the last two tracks are the amazing Dylan cover and the slimmed down version of Voodoo Child. 4/5, pushing a 5 and would comfortably have got there had the album been 20 minutes shorter.

This is my third and final Hendrix album to review, and it looks like I saved the best for last. Just like on his other albums, Hendrix's guitar playing and songwriting are the stars of the show here. This album flies highest when the tempo is fast. Songs like "Crosstown Traffic," "Little Miss Strange," and "Gypsy Eyes" were among my favorites. Hendrix also did a great job of crafting his own psychedelic sound, like on "Burning of the Midnight Lamp" and "House Burning Down." Those two songs were an absolute delight through my headphones. But the best track on this album was easily Hendrix's version of "All Along the Watchtower." Hendrix's takes Dylan's song, and makes it his own, with defiant vocals, and guitar sounds and percussion that build their own massive landscape. As much as I think that this is Hendrix's best album, it did have its downsides. I loved the faster tempo songs, but the slower ones felt like a drag, only offering brief glimpses of Hendrix's talent with the guitar. My biggest complaint though is that the album was just too long, and I really didn't enjoy the two longest tracks, which essentially made up about 40% of the entire album. This was a great listen, and I'm glad that I've checked all three Jimi Hendrix albums off the list.

Too high!

He ripped off thundercat

It was sick this was much more immersive than Are You Experienced, the other Jimi album I have listened to for a long time. That one was much more a collection of a lot of songs, this one is like a Jimi hazy vortex. Ending with the two well known singles is a fun payoff too

I listened to this album 4 times. The first time I thought that this album feels more like a display of technical skills as opposed to a really great piece of music. But as I listened again, this time more actively, the album began to grow on me. This album is great. It really feels like I am in the studio with the band and they are having fun and jamming.

If there’s a classic worthy of its name, it’s “Electric Ladyland”. Jimi Hendrix creates a new soundscape and revolutionizes guitar playing at the same time. What is there not to love?

Hendrix is damn good

This is good and very interesting. I haven't heard much of this before at all and it's surprising how much I wouldn't recognize as Hendrix. If I was listening in the 70s and more aspects of the style or stereo production were novel it might be a 5. If I was listening in a different period of my life it might be a 5. I don't have immediate plans to revisit but I'm open to the idea that I might really love this at some later time. Sorry you didn't make it to your mermaid years Jimi. music: appreciated. (⌐■ ̮ ■)

Astounding that the guy only did 3 albums, and this one was less than two years after Experienced. Really creative, love this one, wish we could have found out what kind of wacky crap Hendrix was doing at 50. A merman, he should be.
