Reviews (page 5 of 7)

Seems like they were ahead of their time, solid album.

Enjoyed it more than expected! Not that bad for punk and a little bit funny sometimes

Yeah, I can listen to this.

Forgettable. Very little differentiation between songs that are faster tempo than I prefer. I'm sure in 1979 they thought these lyrics were really saying something, but even held up to the protest music other genres had been doing for a decade, these are nothing. Plan 9 Channel 7 was my favorite if I had to pick one. Looking At You was entirely too long and irritating the entire time, so that's least favorite.

no me acuerdo

Britrock, enjoyed it, especially opening track, but wouldn't reach for it again

This was a cool album. I wouldn't really consider this punk, and I thought with their name it would be heavier, but it wasn't bad. Still, not enough to get over the 3 mark. Noise, Noise, Noise was a favorite.

This was an intriguing one for me. Sort of a mix of punk and prog rock? The singer's delivery kept me engaged.

Album rec #100! I found this one pretty fun. It was like the Ramones, but heavier. Nothing spectacular, just solid/good music. Overall: 3.4/5

Not a band I would normally listen to, but then that’s the whole point of this list! But I actually quite enjoyed it but not sure if it’s one I’d necessarily play again.

Big and noisy and punk! Only a couple songs stand out though. Their music is a hybrid form of punk/metal/Sabbathy goth. What kind of sound are they really? I guess they’re damned if they, no I can’t do it.

Good! I knew exactly what it was going to sound like by looking at the album art, and that was fine! 3.5

love to hear songs about the anti pope. this is probably my favorite experience listening to the damned, especially as an album. i bet this made people crazy in the 70s

I didn't hate it. Might like it on more listens. Saved it so I can do just that.

-getting to listen to more hardcore / post-hardcore stuff through this project has given me a newfound appreciation for albums like these and their place in music honestly -it’s not totally my thing but it has a lot of really cool sounds, lyrics, and ideas. not bad -Favorites are Machine Gun Etiquette and Anti-Pope

Helt klart punk. Men det finns rätt mycket inslag av mer lattjo musik. Delvis melodiskt och lite påhittigt. Men för det mesta väldigt klassisk punk.

play it loud play it fast

Machine Gun Etiquette – The Damned – 3/5 I think this was my first time listening to them, and I don’t really remember much from before. It was fun, energetic, and made for a surprisingly good shower listen.

precursors to horror/goth rock and highly influential. Still didn't impress me all that much.

i liked that it had an extremely anti-christian song followed by a song about a demented circus clown. let’s all strive for that kind of variety in our artmaking practices.

i got the gist after a few songs

I always like 70s punk even though it all sounds the same.

Day527 - it’s punk but not as punk as a the germs

Never really been in to early punk.

More creative than Damned Damned Damned, but I prefer that straight ahead rock. You can tell with this album that they were heading toward glam/prog...

It's fun, but not as great as I had hoped.

Sounds familiar, not bad

Much prefer to other punk albums I’ve heard on the list. More variety, cleaner and surprising elements than say something like the Ramones. Great opening track and probably my favourite in the album

Not really my style, but some good energy.

Right up my alley

ok - def punk/rock straddling going on...

I’m surprised I’ve never heard this before. This is totally something I would have listened to in high school. Pretty decent for what it is and it clocks I’m at under 40 min, so that feels like a win.

I like the title and the music is okay. 3 stars or C+.

Ikke min sjanger, helt streit punk-pop.

It was enjoyable. But didn't really grip me.

3.5. I'll be damned if this isn't some damned good punk music

Good stuff! Don't know if I will ever remember this exists

yeah this kicks ass

Most of it I didn’t think much of good or bad but shout out to ‘ Plan 9 Channel 7’ for that intro riff loved that. But its a 3/5

I can see why they were influential

I like the damned in principle. “New Rose,” and “Neat Neat Neat” are classic singles. And they were on The Young Ones! Bug I’ve never found much more beyond that. So I was pleasantly surprised that I really liked the first few songs. It got a bit boring on the middle and then picked up at the end. So I want to give it a 4 but it’s probably a 3.

Enjoyed this, felt full of musicianship underneath the sneering punk exterior.

Listens: 3 Standout tracks: Smash It Up Machine Gun Etiquette is a dope album name, regardless of how I feel about the music.

Fun album with short, catchy songs. First listen wasn't the most convincing but they stick in your head.

3 star albums are hardest to write reviews for as I don't have much of an opinion on them. They usually lead to me writing a generic review like so: It's an alright album but just not too interesting for me.

Sounded like English punk. Pretty middle of the road for me. Good enough to enjoy it

Good for early punk. I like the attitude here. Playfully disrespectful is great. The guitar work is not that good as some people here have said. But this was good

Started strong but fell off. 3 stars

Not quite my usual style but I still enjoyed it.

great punk band from back in the day. I looked them up and they are still touring, playing the waterfront here this summer. the more you know!

Pretty fun punk rock album. No real standouts though. Enjoyed it but wouldn't listen again.

the songs that are straight up punk i like and are good. the songs that aren’t / talk about love… yeah not for me. The long songs are quite good.

Solid album. High energy punk. Standout songs: Anti Pope Plan 9 Channel 7 Looking at You

Lättlyssnad typisk punkrock.

Cool album, tried to listen intently a few times but it kept getting pushed to the background. Liked what I heard, will need the revisit

punk rock.

Who would have thought that The Damned could have so much fun! I am not sure what they bring to the punk genre other than a little bit more of a sense of irony and fun, but they are a tight band that delivers a nice entry into the punk world. I haven't heard them before, but I liked the album.

Not their best album still sounds fresh

They somehow manage to be both amateurishly basic, and too over produced to be punk. Some good stuff on here, but generally disappointing.

Classic English punk

Ah kind of interesting

Trance inducing

Pretty good album. Some nice songs but nothing too grabbing

I know the band by name and I've always had an interest in learning more about their sound. I dig late 70's punkish stuff and the energy it gives off. "Love Song" has that energy and a Brit vibe. I learned they were the first real punk band to release a single/album, and had big success in England but no so much over here. The intro to "Melody Lee" was stolen by the Smashing Pumpkins years later. Their entire sound was stolen by Rancid and they likely influence The Clash. I had to skip "These Hands", that maniacal laugh and the song structure wasn't there for me. Overall it got a little tiresome by the end. But I will say I enjoyed "Smash It Up", good way to finish the album. This one is likely on here for influence, though I would think their 1976 debut would be the better reference for that. While I enjoyed it all I'm not sure I'd include this album on the T1001.

I forgor

Some bright spots in an otherwise uninspiring album

Decent album, but Smash it up was really the best song on the album.

Some cracking guitar work on some of the tracks scrapes this album into the three-star category for me, but in general, it's not my cup of tea.

It's a decent album, just not feeling it :(

Random thoughts: * typical punk music. Nothing groundbreaking here in my opinion. * I related to "I Just Can't Be Happy Today". * Smash It Up was catchy and I can see why it is the most popular track from this album.

As far as Punk music goes, it wasn’t bad. Can’t say I’d listen to it again.

Pretty good album, lots of the songs are "almost - bangers" but very few songs I actually remembered or cared about after listening to the album, maybe I just need to give it another listen.

There are 5 star songs on this record and 2 star songs. I would give it a 3.5 if I could.

Fun fast punk, with understandable lyrics

Apart from the first track nothing really stood out. Nothing terrible on here but just some quite generic punk.

I was happy to see this pop up. Been looking forward to this. It is good, but I'm slightly underwhelmed. It's not grabbing me instantly. Can't put my finger on the reason why not. Great cover art.

At first I was really not liking this, but as the album progressed, it grew on me a bit. Still not really my sound -- a little too shouty and punky, without a whole ton of musical oomph, but there were a few tracks that I enjoyed listening to and hummed along. Three stars.

70s, enjoyed

I guess I don’t really get the appeal of sitting and listening to a punk record. Having said that, at least this one has some tuned and decent lyrics and a sense of fun, which is something sadly lacking in the American hardcore/punk offerings on here

Another fun punk album with a good dose of British sass and some gnarly bass riffs and guitar solos. Some solid tunes in here but nothing too noteworthy

Kolejny punkowy album. Ostatnio ciągle na nie trafiam i powoli zlewają mi się w jedno. Czy miło się słuchało? Tak. Czy cokolwiek zapadnie mi w pamięć? Nie. 6/10 i następny proszę

Would relisten

The album felt like it struggled with an identity, but I did enjoy it still. 3/5

"Machine Gun Etiquette" by The Damned may not have reinvented the wheel in the punk rock genre, but it stands out as a solid and cohesive album that showcases the band's ability to blend aggressive energy with melodic sensibilities. Released in 1979, it captures the raw essence of punk while exploring more diverse musical elements, such as rockabilly and pop, demonstrating the band's evolution. Tracks like "Love Song" and "Smash It Up" resonate with infectious hooks and powerful lyrics that reflect the angst of the era. Ultimately, the album solidifies The Damned's place in punk history, proving that while it may adhere to the genre’s foundational principles, it also offers a memorable and enjoyable listening experience.

Punk isn’t my usual go to but enjoyed this album some good tracks on here.

Well, this rollicked along at a fair pace. Inoffensively fun British punk, it's a reasonably solid three for me.

Album 611 of 1001 The Damned - Machine Gun Etiquette (1979) Rating : 3.5 / 5 Praised for its eclectic mix of punk rock, psychedelia, and gothic elements, it is a respected album in the punk world. I can't claim to be overly knowledgeable of punk offerings but I know what I like. Good album.

Short and sweet. I find myself gravitating away from Punk lately but this one hit a sweet spot.

Frech und selbstbewusst. Sehr melodisch und eingängig. Aber heute war's nur nett

Enjoyed this. Liked the early stage punk. 3/5 Might listen again

Real good Short, sweet and packs a punch High 3

That's not my taste in music.

Not the most interesting stuff i heard on here, but enjoyable

Solid early Brit punk. Not sure I get all the 5s, but it was enjoyable listen or two. 3.5

Machine Gun Etiquette is one of the better punk albums of its time. Fairly lofi recording could use updating. The songs are energetic and melodic. Plan 9 Channel 7 is the stand out. At times The Damned have traditional Irish melodies almost (see Love Song) at times almost Doorsy (These Hands) but it’s the punk that stands out 6.3/10

A but all over the place but pretty fun

Didn't leave much of impression.

Good album but in no rush for a second go.

You can feel the influence this album had on future punk album. The explosiveness in the album was very much so there. The unique sound effects are interesting like the chainsaw sound in MGE or the plane in Happy Today. 6/10 not really my thing but I can see the early punk appeal

This was a lot of fun. Will revisit.

I kind of liked this. It was fun.

Solid punk songs with just enough variety to keep it interesting.

Pretty good punk album. Plan 9 Channel 7 is a standout song. Not many other thoughts on this but it was an enjoyable listen.

++: I Just Can't Be Happy Today, Anti-Pope, Plan 9 Channel 7, Noise, Noise, Noise, Looking at You, Smash It Up (Part 1) +: Machine Gun Etiquette, Melody Lee, These Hands (Smash It Up (Part 2) +-: Love Song 7,9/10

Enjoyed it. Not sure it was enough for a 4 though.

October 10, 2024 HL: "Anti-Pope", “Plan 9, Channel 7", “Love Song”, “Smash It Up” Well, I like it better than the Dictators & the Stranglers In fact, one day when my fatigue over early punk has faded, I’ll probably praise this as one of the most unique entries from that era. Less Sid Vicious than Syd Barrett 3.5

I like this album a lot better than most punk genre albums, it's more melodic and musical than most. Glad to listen to it this morning.

Oh, more British punk rock. I liked this one, especially "Noise, Noise, Noise".

just punk. just the sound of punk. nothing more, nothing less

rock n roll into punk in the late 70s vibes.

Nice surprise! 3.5/5

On the edge of 80’s punk rock, bringing in the new decade of music. 3.2

5/10. Wasn’t my thing overall. A couple good instrumental moments. Did add one song to the playlist.

A listening for the historical relevance. Probably would’ve liked this album more when I was younger. But like it I do.

Like being struck with a sledgehammer in its best moments. Fast and furious.

A great punk album with some wider influences, especially Britain

It was okay, 3.1 stars

I’ll be damned if I didn’t think this was pretty good

Smash it up was my favorite track, good punk album.

I'm still not sure I like that this albums is all over the place or if it just annoys me.

I'm usually not into punk, but this album was pretty good!

Solid English punk rock music. I was entertained the entire time, and a few of the songs I would add to a work out playlist.

A solid punk rock album. It's old, yeah, but it still holds up. Not my favorite type of music, though.

Never gave The Damned much of a listen. Surprised at the instrumentation and dynamics. Thought it was going to full steam all the time and was not. Would rank it higher perhaps after a few additional listens.

Solid and energetic album but not a lot to draw me back. 3 side of 3.5

Banging tracks. 80s Punk.

There are some high points here, unfortunately not enough to make me excited about the album. Competent and good enough, my favorite track was probably "Plan 9 Chapter 7."

Machine Gun Etiquette is an album that isn't exactly the most remarkable but it is still pretty solid. The album had some generally good basslines and some pretty good vocals to go along with it. The album also moves at a pretty fast pace the majority of the time but it is a bit too fast sometimes not allowing the songs to sink in enough. I don't exactly know how the cover of that MC5 song is compared to the original since i haven't heard the original (heck, i haven't even heard of that band until i did this album). Either way, this album isn't the best one i have done but it is still pretty good. Best Song: Smash It Up (Pts. 1 & 2) Worst Song: Love Song

Cooles Album.

Pretty chill but nothing special

I dig the raw energy. And it sure sounds like they are having fun. But some of it is just too much noise instead of music for me to love it.

Just very average.

Sinällän ihan hyvää rähinä punkkia, eikä ees niin rähisevää kokoajan. Eli hyvää punkkia. Parhaat: Plan 9 Channel 7, Melody Lee, Smash It Up

great band,couldn't take the vocalist

I didn't like it that much, but it's a bit better than most punk. I see how this might have paved the way to post punk.

Love Song 3.2 Machine Gun Etiquette 3.3 I Just Can't Be Happy Today 3.4 Melody Lee 3 Anti-Pope 3.1 These Hands 3.1 Plan 9 Channel 7 3.5 Noise, Noise, Noise 3.2 Looking at You (MC5 cover) 3 Liar 3.2 Smash It Up (Part 1) 3.3 Smash It Up (Part 2) 3.3 Score: 3.216666667

Some cool punkish stuff, this list has a lot of stuff just like this tho lol

Solid punk album

Quite agressive music.

Very tolerable punk, some of the easiest to listen to that I've heard on this project. Yet I've somehow never heard of this band! The album didn't change my life, but it was a good listen. High 2 or low 3 for me!

Rock setentero.

This album is definitely music that i don’t typically enjoy, but the midsection was different and interesting enough to bump it up to 3 for me. These Hands is so strange but i love it, especially the psychedelic effect of the laughing as the circus music drones on in the background.

i only had the time to listen to the first few songs, so i can’t really speak for the album in its entirety. i liked what i heard tho, but i feel like i needed to listen more to decided how i feel for sure. giving it a safe 3 star as i did like what i heard but didn’t hear enough.

Pretty damn good. I want to give it a 4 because I think I’ll be revisiting but I think that threshold is really a 3 not a 4. wish I would’ve gave stardust a 3 in retrospect

Decent punk music! Enjoyable.

Fun British punk, the songs aren't as repetitive as many others in this genre, the structures of the songs are kind of interesting. I also like their humourous lyrics. However, it gets a bit tiring towards the end, I think I enjoyed the middle of the album the most. I'd give it a 3.5 overall.

I enjoyed it more than similar bands of the Brit-punk era. Which is not a genre I have fully understood. I do enjoy the discernible talented instrument playing, and the light hearted, fun atmosphere certainly made for a more tolerable listening experience. As with other punk albums, the recording is not ideal and adds to the noise-factor. If I revisit any, this would be one to give a second chance.

n dava nada e foi bom

Pleasantly surprised

Very 3 stars for me

Bit generic, but not too big of a chore to listen to

It's an alright album, I don't have any strong feelings either way.

Not baad at all

57/100

A bit more poppy than I'd normally expect from punk, which I enjoyed. The album also has some interesting experimental stuff going on, which kept my interest for the whole album. That being said, it's just not for me and I doubt I'll so searching for it again.

Fun, good workout, last two especially, good punk vibes

Liked this

Interesting

my prayers have been answered – FINALLY a 30 min album again. I don't totally love it, but that might be because I can't fully grasp its cultural significance and feel like I've heard this many times before – it definitely feels a bit dated/boring to me when I inevitably compare it to all the punk/punk rock stuff I've heard to date. otherwise solid work, and I most certainly agree that the vocals and the musicianship are exquisite compared to their peers

Pretty fun.

Raw punk with full sound and passable vocals.

Blind album and artist. I enjoyed this album more than I thought for sure. First listen is great and has some catchy songs.

Some nice british punk. Lively atmosphere, and the last track switches things up in a cool way. Strong 3

It's good, but didn't really stick with me.

Not usually into punk but let’s see. From 1979.

Boarderline. Some interesting sounds.

Didn’t pick up any machine gun manners/best practices though

It sounded like they made the album as a joke

Love the music. Can hear their influence on many of our more recent alt punk artists. Not digging the vocals.

It was fine I guess

This was fine.

I don't often listen to punk so when I do I have a few standard records to which I turn. That said, this is a really good record, but I like their debut a little more.

A genre bender of an album

perfectly fine as background music but nothing special for me.

Melody Lee is a belter.

PUNK. I'll probs never listen again but neat stuff

Wish I could do 3.5. I liked this but probably won’t listen again

I like it just a smidge, but not enough to tune in.

frisch und punkig, London der 70er!

Spannendes Album an der Grenze zwischen verschiedenen Stilen mit guten Songs Richtung Hardcore.

5.5/10

Pretty Damned good

Quite the onslaught for a 8am drive to work. It settled down, but became more forgettable towards the end.

Another from my birth year - a good year for music I maintain. This was beyond passable punk, to downright melodic and quite musically interesting.

Nice punk record. I remember Offspring’s cover of Smash It Up on the radio when I was young. Now I know where it came from.

I like parts of it, and think it's a solid pink album. This era of the genre just isn't my favorite sound scape

Decent punk rock album, even though I'm not a big punk rock fan. I especially liked "Smash it Up"

Bad timing. I’d have likely enjoyed this more if it had come up at another time.

Kind of fun upbeat British punk. Didn't quite click with me but not bad overall. Notable Tracks: Smash It Up

The fact that there is even music and if you try hard you can understand the lyrics makes the album a less unpleasant punk album.

Enérgico. 3/5.

Some ok songs, smash it up part 1 and 2 was the best song on there

enough of this era of rock 😭

не тот панк, который внезапно мог меня захватить и обратить в жанр) норм

yeah its pretty good

Listened to it, but nothing outstanding about it.

I had never heard of this group or album. Was dreading it with the punk notation in genre. Was pleasantly surprised with their music. A pretty good listen.

Always love to hear Captain Sensible's voice.

Amanda really liked it

Not a bad album. I wouldn't have heard it without this site and honestly that wouldn't have bothered me.

avg punk rock

This is pretty good fun, with some stand-out tracks.

Not bad - one of the better punk albums of the era and it was nice and easy to listen to. Thought "Smash It Up" was the best song on the album. 7/10.

„Smash it up“ ist ganz gut. Der Rest geht so.

Enjoyable to listen to and to me sounded like classic rock meets some early punk. Fun album but average in my opinion

5.5/10

actually not bad considering it's apparently my least favorite genre or whatever

Punk works best when it's in the background and I am working on something.

пацаны на угаре. За такие эксперименты, лайк! За то что иногда скучно не лайк) 3+

Дэм, что за щит от группы Дэм.

Really liked Just Can’t Be Happy Today but got a little bored by the end. Overall decent.

The Damned I remember was a pastiche of itself. Hard to believe this is already a 3rd album. Lots of nods to future genres. You can’t beat at 36 min album.

Ihme soundit, ihme rumpalointia, ihme biisejä. Mutta levyn avaus on hersyvä, ja jostain syystä kokonaisuuskin on kiinnostava. Saatan katua tätä, mutta...

I like this phase of punk where artists really embraced just being weird. Its not a great album, but its pretty good. 3/5

#64. I assumed all the British punk bands from the 70s were uninteresting because I've only really ever heard The Sex Pistols and The Clash, but it turns out the Brits were just hiding the good stuff from us, because all the punk I've listened to on this list are way better than those two. 3/5: acceptable

Wonderfully noisy stuff. A great accompaniment to a trip home from Berlin too.

Fun, quick little rocker - was hoping for a jam to match the caliber of 'Neat Neat Neat' or something of the like, and while the tracks didn't reach that high a level, they're still great punk songs by any standards.

"Machine Gun Etiquette" has this gritty charm that's kind of infectious. The punk vibes are palpable, and the unpolished edge gives it a certain authenticity. The band’s energy and raw sound are infectious, and the songs are catchy and memorable. It's not my usual go-to, but there's something oddly enjoyable about its rebellious energy.

Awesome spiky punk! What more can you ask! This was an enjoyable listen, not my favourite genre by a long shot but wouldn’t switch it off if it came on rotation! Thoroughly good album!

I enjoyed some songs. Was a pretty fun album

how do you like your thrash punk? with a side of goth, rockabilly, lounge jazz and glam rock please. some weird combos but it kind of works.

Sex in a can

Solid punk, nice, but not much more.

Alright but all the tracks are way too similar, some are good though.

Easy to see/hear why they were an exciting band at the time. Looking back their influence is apparent, and perhaps the most impressive aspect of the record. They would continue to do interesting, if sub-transcendent, non-life-changing things. "Plan 9" sounds like vintage, Ultravox-y new wave that was still a few years to come in the future. And did Bono steal "two hearts beat as one lyric" from these cats?

More like machine gun Kelly

Ok. What the actual fuck is it with artists in the 70s and circus music. 3/5

Solid but kind of unremarkable

Pretty nice

The instrumentation was great (really great), but the vocal quality was quite uneven at times—the whiplash from the transition between the killer opening riff and the singing in the first 30 seconds seemed to echo throughout the rest of the album. Fortunately, most of the later tracks were better than Love Song, with the notable exception of These Hands. I think this one averages out to a 5/10 for me, although I'd put the guitar and drums much higher. Favorite Track: Machine Gun Etiquette.

3.5. great high energy punk. 3.45 enjoyable but not sure i will follow up again anytime too soon. listened 2x

As a punk group, they really try mixing things up. And it's good. It could be generic punk album with repetitive melodies all over, but they let the creativity flow and it's simply good rock. 3.5/5.

A good solid beating over the head

Not a bad album this.

A solid punk band and album. Too bad punk isn't totally my scene. But I definitely hear that transition from punk to goth rock. I think they're actually pretty good musicians (the bassist is quite good on several tracks) and they often start their songs with some really good melodies. I Just Can't Be Happy Today is a great example of all of those previous points. But they usually feel the need to kick it into frantic punk overdrive, which sometimes isn't what's needed. Like most punk, the vocals are also flawed. Still, there's more to like on this album than not like. I have a feeling their debut album will find its way onto this list too.

Solid album.

These guys are pretty good. I'm gonna dive in their discography for sure. 7/10

Best Song: Anti-Pope. Dug the lyrics, and somehow the hyperactive vocals meshed well with the slower, more thoughtful rock instrumentals in the middle. Worst Song: These Hands. I never care for these kind of corny gimmick tracks. Overall: A rarity in the British punk that frequents this list in that the music is actually interesting and it isn't just noisy bouncing. Still nothing to write home about, but not so actively annoying that I wished it would end.

Decent punk record

Quite nice punk rage.

buen disco

It’s possible that I’m exhausted past the point of critique but you know what, I’ll say it, that was fun

Basic good punk. Worth a listen....

Not bad, another punky/rocky type of album but a couple tracks I dug. Nothing too crazy, but it was good! Favorite tracks: Anti-Pope, Noise Noise Noise, Looking at You, Smash It Up. Album art: Photo's nice and grainy, I like the guy wearing the feathery outfit. Any group of blokes looking like this that crosses a street is bound to stop traffic. 3.5/5

Noise, noise, noise

I had this on background through two listens. I enjoyed a lot of it and found it above par insofar as a punk album is concerned. That said, there wasn't much that jumped out and smacked me in the face with interest. I would give this a high 3 / 5, and likely will never come back again.

3rd album of proficient punk from TD. More musical and organized than you'd think from their media antics. (Remember them smashing up the Whustle Test studio promoting this album) Quirky power pop.

This was okay but pretty forgettable to me. I'll round up.

Kyllä osaa soittaa vähän vaan hukassa meikäpoika...

Some of the songs are good some of the songs I just don’t understand why. It’s like two polar sides

They had a pretty good sound and I was happy hearing piano. Kind of mid though with lyrics

Very energetic, and quite enjoyable, but doesn't do more to warrant a higher rating

a much more interesting punk rock sound.

Fine stuff

interesting punk rock sound.

I find it difficult for something to be noisy, harsh, and edgy, but not so much so that it aches on the sensibilities. The Damned does a decent job at not going overboard, at least with this album.

Good British punk. Not a favorite of mine but I enjoyed it.

pretty good punk rock album. I'm personally not a big fan of punk but it's not bad and quite enjoyable. 6/10 (3/5)

Underwhelmed.

not bad

Allt í lagi pönkrokk. Ekki mitt uppáhalds frá The Damned

I had to give this one a chance - not really a fan of punk and especially the "1234!" rabid-energy-and-little-else cuts like the first one here .... but there's a lot more once I moved on. Sense of humour on some cuts and more of a variety/complexity/maturity than I'd have guessed. e.g. "Plan 9 Channel 7" fits in comfortably alongside The Clash and other late 70s/early 80s British new wave/post-punk acts. Will never be close to a favourite kind of music and for me real hit and miss but the "more than meets the eye" factor boosts this to a semi-enjoyable 3. 6/10 3 stars.

This will be the only time you will ever hear me say, this was a nice change of pace from the previous album. I love you, Lou! Loved the very opening line. Nice way to kick off the album. Never heard of these guys, but definitely a nice way to get through your work day. I've listened a few times now and couple songs really stood out to me. My favorite, Anti-Pope. Lyrics spot on. Organized religion is a scam. I'll leave it at that so I don't offend too many who may read this... This guys voice reminded me of someone, but still can't figure it out. Other songs I enjoyed or stood out, Machine Gun Etiquette, and Smash it up, but generally liked most of this album and helped wit a busy time at work. My favorite was Anti-Pope for sure, but one song tugged at the heart a little bit, but really for my son. Melody Lee. The line, a broken man a broken dream made me feel sad inside. Again, I leave it there, but I did enjoy this song as well. Nothing I considered outstanding, but generally a good listen. Now that I got my Mario Kart hooked back up (thank you, sis), I'll take a couple tokes and check out more these guys. 3

Was the song "Machine Gun Etiquette" sampled in the "Hey! (You Suck)" song? If so that's pretty cool. "I Just Can't Be Happy" slaps. That keyboard solo in the middle was fun. "These Hands" frightens me. But the background guitar is cool. Idk if it's because it's been over a week since I've listened to punk but I enjoyed this one more than most of the others.

Rock setentero

I really enjoyed this album quite a lot. I was never into that much in the punk rock day but I wish I had been. I'm going to look further into them.

Not my cup of tea, but it seemed almost as good as other first wave punk offerings. I still prefer the Clash.

There was nothing about this that differentiated itself from any other punk-ish band I've ever heard.

This album is eccentric almost as a rule. The group is British so that makes sense. Feels a bit punkish with elements of many of the different major artists that have stood the test of time from the 70s to today. The songs also seem to meander stylistically and instrumentally throughout the tracks. Lyrics on I Just Can't Be Happy Today really reach me. The piano intro of Melody Lee is an interesting and abrupt change that gets interrupted with the muted speed rock and rock star vocals. Anti-Pope has cool stereo vocals and again. The lyrics are anti-establishment and right on. These Hands is quite the murder song. It's mad. Plan 9 Channel 7 is supposed to be the biggest, highest reaching song. I agree with that assessment based on the chorus. It feels like the most accessible song on the album...until we get to the end with the vocal solo heavy on the left side. Noise, Noise, Noise - very punk. Kick everyone out of the way so you can hang out and cut loose. I love the recurring church themes that show up. NOISE NOISE NOISE NOISE NOISE NOISE NOISE NOISE NOOOOOOOOIIIIIISE As I listen this time around, I'm really distracted by all of the changing locations of instruments throughout the album. I bet this one will sound better super loud on club speakers.

Intro to punk rock!

This is a really good punk album, great mix of different styles through out the album, very talented musicians.

я бы сказала, что это мужская версия the runaways

Interesting early punk, not that memorable

Reminds me of the clash- Punk rock. I liked it a lot more then i thought i would. The songs had some pretty good guitar parts and some good song diversity. I want to listen to this record again when I need a upbeat record.

Decent but ultimately fast forgotten punk rock album

Nicht so ganz meine Richtung, ich verstehe aber wieso man es mag und ich musste auch ein bisschen mitwippen 🤪 3,1/5

That last ish one was decent

Estuvo bien escuchar punk de esa época. Suena muy moderno, pero no sé si eso es bueno o malo.

Pretty decent, might listen again if I want to get hyped up.

Loose, punky rock, a fairly decent listen

just ok. good instrumentals but seemed kinda basic

Not bad. In parts it's pretty standard 70s punk, but mostly they use a wider sonic palette which keeps things interesting. There are some fun vocal hooks too. I also enjoy that the band members had wacky names like 'Captain Sensible', 'Rat Scabies' and 'Brian James'.

It's a good punk album. Not a great one, middle ground. The initial bang had happened, and the resurgence in New Wave and Hardcore is yet to happen. So it's just... Here it is, some more stuff.

Best: Machine Gun Etiquette Worst: Smash it Up
