Been in the mood for this vibe of album recently

Didn't think I'd be lucky enough to get an LCD Soundsystem album! What a treat. I love the way he layers sounds. Lots of spoken word here and electronica. "I USED TO" is an unexpected favorite!

Loved this one such a cool mix of more modern stuff with an old school synth/brit-pop style.

Love this album.

I’m at a 10. Going into this, I was generally expecting something akin to “Sound of Silver”, their other album on the list: electronica indie rock, with a fun bouncy lean, some fast tempos & catchy rhythms, and overall, just a more headbanging record. Instead, what has emerged feels much more akin to a post-punk electronica Bowie / Talking Heads record, and while it’s a different vibe from the groovier stuff on “Sound of Silver”, I think the emotional depth & maturity present in the lyrics here creates a far more impactful record, and one that certainly touches on some stuff that feels a bit closer to home. Weirdly, I think my closest comparison is to Wilco’s “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot”, at least in terms of the vibe. It’s very easy to get caught up in the moment while listening to these, as they all do slowly find a groove, in a sort of Kraftwerk-y building way, layering over time to reveal the instrumentation in full, before letting the vocals & lyricism guide the emotion. One thing that’s apparent to me though is that you have to know that LCD Soundsystem disbanded in 2010 to truly get this album’s modus operandi. This album, in part, is about the uncomfortability of reforming the band. “oh baby” spells it out, in a roundabout way; it’s effectively a track about two exes who’ve stayed close, and one of them begging the other to take the increasingly obvious hint that he’s ready to get back together. “other voices” is rather obviously a massive Talking Heads tribute, down to James Murphy channeling David Byrne’s vocal style, and the whole thing is just a 5 minute bop about how easily you can be manipulated & influenced by everything surrounding you, especially with the passage of time. It might be my weakest track on the album, but it’s still a good one. “i used to” is effectively the denial stage of grief over someone’s death; someone who clearly meant a lot to James. I mentioned the uncomfortability about reforming the band, and that line about “uncomfortability” comes directly from one David Bowie, who, in many ways, is the other focal point of this album’s theming. He’s the one being mourned here. We haven’t gotten “Blackstar” yet, but I’m looking forward to it, as sad as it’ll be. It’s clear that Bowie’s death shook James up. With that in mind, “change yr mind” is basically just a Bowie track, with oddly, a sort of Morrissey lean to it. Yes, I know, strange comparison, but it feels like a song Morrissey might write if he tried to reunite The Smiths so soon after leaving (and if his solo stuff had flopped). It tackles some of the self-doubt about performing, while acknowledging that it’s not going to be the same as before, and you may as well take them as they are. It might be a bit self-centered, but it’s at least earnest & honest. “how do you sleep?” is a 9 minute callout of a guy who formed a record label with James years ago, breaking down the slow deterioration of their friendship. The lyricism is a bit loose, but with some of the context I looked up, it’s… pretty friendship ruining stuff, especially as it relates to money. The instrumentation here is a highlight; a slowly building intensity with near-perfect progression & ending in a fully swirling synthy soundscape that feels like an Eno/Kraftwerk collab. “tonite” is funky as hell from the get-go, and it makes a pretty solid point that all the songs about living life like it’s your last day do generally mention the word “tonight”, as if it really IS about to be an inevitable young death. I think I recognize one of the synths in the song as coming from Bomberman Hero’s “Monogenic”, so that was cool. It’s a groovy, groovy track, and the entire last verse is one of the best on the album. “call the police” is remarkably prescient, especially in light of some… recent events. Hell, maybe every “recent” event imaginable. Instrumentally & vocally, there’s a bit of a U2 vibe, with a “Friday I’m In Love” bend to it & a hint of Bowie throughout. Great lyrics throughout addressing the generation gap & the elderly clinging to power, and it’s just a banger of a track. “american dream”, from an instrumental standpoint, feels a little bit like “Love on the Brain” if it was produced by Brian Eno. Lyrically, it’s acknowledging the destructive cycle of a self-wallowing pity party sustained only by cheap sexual enjoyments, as a sort of midlife crisis. By this point, that “american dream” feels far, far out of reach. It could be a bit autobiographical, I dunno. The swirling synth work in the latter half of the song has the same effect as “how do you sleep?”, and his despondent vocal tone mixed with the flooding heavy synths feels almost like drowning. I think it’s a track that’s so strong it could’ve ended the album, and it arguably should have. Probably my favorite one here. “emotional haircut” has a bit of a garage band vibe to it in the instrumentation, which I kinda rock with. It’s definitely the most post-punk track on the album, feeling more reminiscent of DEVO but with just a hint of 90s grunge to it. Lyrically, I don’t know if I quite grabbed this one, but I think it’s just sort of a callout to the people who were vehemently against LCD Soundsystem ever reforming, and basically telling them to stop mourning their “death” & just listen to them as they are now. Of course, the irony comes in “black screen” being the final stage of grief in accepting David Bowie’s death. I’ve learned that James Murphy was supposed to be one of the primary co-producers of “Blackstar”, but he just didn’t feel confident enough in himself to commit to the project. It’s a rather sad track, and as a tribute to Bowie, I think it works as a strong album closer. I’m not sure if the 5 minutes of Eno-y piano driven ambience were fully necessary, but they do act as a chance to reflect & release some of the emotional tension of the album. I wouldn’t write a paragraph for each track here unless I think it deserved it; this is a wonderful album, and for the top review on the site to disparage it this much is beyond disappointing. I guess I’m the target audience here, because something about this appealed DEEPLY to me. I think it’s beyond worthy of being on the list, and I can only hope their next album actually comes out… well, soon enough. They can take their time. For now, it seems like I need to go back to both their debut & “This is Happening”, because I’ve clearly been missing out if this is supposed to be “worse” than those. This is a 10 for me, and I’m very, very glad it’s here. Stellar stuff.

Dream indeed. The synth takes me to another plane. Call the police on this album for being illegally good.

"tonight" er for fed i sin simplehed, selvom der er flere ord som ikke skal rime, end pbm, så fungere det bare så godt for mig. Jeg har rå hørt albummet hele weekenden, og der er nyt som kan opdages hele tiden.

About time we got some LCD Soundsystem on here! Scanning previous reviews, it looks like I've referenced them 12 times previously... This is not the album I expected, but in all fairness I think any of their albums could justify a place on this list. This is their latest album and only recorded after their formal "breakup" in 2011. As would be expected given the 7 year span between this and the preceding album This is Happening, there is a significant change in the overall sound. This one leans a bit more heavily into what I perceive to be 80s nostalgia -- particularly with the title track. But for a 7 year break, LCD Soundsystem didn't lose any of their step. Murphy and the gang cling to their roots in thick synth bass and solid songwriting. A couple of overall comments... The sequencing throughout follows an up/down trend where they seemingly deliberately place upbeat songs adjacent to more "lumbering" tracks. Production is characteristically fantastic -- warm synth tones with lots of space for the instrumental elements to layer. Opener, oh baby kicks things off with walls of 80s-toned synthetic basslines and Murphy's characteristic croon. Such a wonderful opener that builds slowly and swells with patience. other voices kicks the tempo up to a level and feels something like a successful Talking Heads impersonation. For that matter change yr mind has a distinct Talking Heads energy to it as well. how do you sleep? is one of my favorites on here. A bit spooky at the start with Joy Division esq percussion, distant strained vocals and tense strings. Love how this one aligns focus behind the concentrated walls of bass and then just drives forward behind the snares. tonite adopts a "funkier" tone and feels a little goofy coming out of how do you sleep? but it is a fine song in isolation. Really enjoy fuzzed out call the police. american dream is a favorite of mine. Love the writing and the nostalgiac vibe of it. emotional haircut is another favorite of mine here -- silly chorus, but the instrumental jams. Never have I tired of this album. Soft 5 for me.

Have been wanting to listen to LCD Soundsystem for a while now but just always slips my mind so I was very happy when this came up. Pretty much exactly what I was expecting and that is a great thing. Love the low hitting synth and just downright spacey music the whole time. Some of these songs were a bit strange like emotional haircut, but the over whelming majority were awesome. pulse (v.1) to end it was a marathon of sick sounds which was a great finish. Didn't even realize that had been an hour and 20 minutes long of an album which is a great sign.

I can’t believe of all LCD albums this is the first one. We better have Sound of Silver or This is Happening! That being said, How Do You Sleep is a banger of bangers and they don't really miss with any of their albums. I remember this coming out after years of listening to them after their "retirement." It's not my favorite or theirs but still fun as hell to listen to. The production is fantastic, and the songs sound so wildly unique to each other. My favorite thing about LCD is the crazy different sounds and how they're used. Also I think they're the kings of a build up. Really impressive. The title song is also top tier. Lyrics are incredible. Emotional Haircut is a grower. I remember not really loving it when this first came out but I really loved listening to it yesterday and just now. Black Screen is really the only mid song on here. I went into this kinda expecting to give it a 4 from my previous listens, but I can't in good conscious do that now. LCD has a good af discography.

Хоч і не найкращий їх альбом, але мені сильно подобається гурт. Не такий хітовий як інші альбоми. Проте й своїх хайлатів тут вистачає. Той самий how do you sleep?, emotional haircut чи call the police.

5 stars, graet album

This isn't my favorite LCD album but it's still fantastic, and seems to be aging quite well.

gd classic, great stuff from murph man all round

It's like they took influence from every band I like and made this album.

This was dope as hell

Sooo good!!!

Really really really good

"American Dream" is the fourth studio album and the first in seven years after disbanding by American rock band LCD Soundsystem. Dance-punk, new wave, post-punk, synth-pop and art rock are the Wiki-listed genres. An eclectic mix but yes! The band members included James Murphy (vocals, synths, drums, percussion, bass, organ), Pat Mahoney (drums, vocals), Nancy Whang (vocals), Tyler Pope (bass), Al Doyle (guitar, piano, vocals, cello, mandolin, congas, synths) and Gavilán Rayna Russom (synths). Commercially, the album reached #1 in the US and #3 in the UK and had wide-spread critical acclaim. Synth and drum ticking sounds opens "Oh Baby." Synth notes and vocals. A dreamy song that builds. There's an overlayed organ and percussion smashes. It's a song about a relationship not working and not the last one on that. This song sounds better today than I remember. The dance beat gets going in "Other Voices." The groove gets set by the bass. There's David Bowie-era Robert Fripp guitar. The groove would not be out of place in a Talking Heads' album. It's a song about fear, depression, and anxiety of people in the outside world. The lyrics reminded Saul's brother Chick McGill in "Better Call Saul." The dance beat gets even bigger in "Tonite." A bass synth and layered beats in a hypnotic song. Murphy in a talking voice comparing himself to other artists and about getting older. Nice backing vocals repeating the song title. The first single "Call the Police" is one of the two really rockin' songs on the album. A new wave-post-punk synth, bass and drums with a melodic guitar. A comment on the current state of politics. This is a great song. "Black Screen" closes the album in an homage to David Bowie. The band does a really job creating that electronic feel of the "Heroes" to "Low"-era David Bowie. Synths and beats are the musical core of this album. The style reminds one of David Bowie, Talking Heads, Gary Numan, Brian Eno and post-punk in general. One can do a lot worse than that. Murphy's vocals are at times, dreamy, talking or echoing. The lyrics rotate around getting away from relationships, getting away from drugs, getting out of the current political system and getting older. The songs build and they all are fairly long (greater than five minutes) which might be a positive or negative. Regardless, this is a really good album. All four LCD Soundsystem albums are really good and a high recommendation for everyone.

Never really gave them any consideration. This album brought me in. Great stuff.

This will be my last LCD Soundsystem album to review, and also my last album from 2017 to review. I got on the LCD Soundsystem hype train relatively late; they were on the lineup for ACL in 2010, and my cousin suggested checking them out since I was going. I think the first song of theirs I listened to was “All My Friends,” which I immediately fell in love with. I bought Sound of Silver and This is Happening, and I listened to both really frequently. I wound up seeing LCD’s set at ACL that fall, and it was fantastic. I was really bummed when they called it quits the next year, but I still listened to their last two albums quite a bit. When I found out that they were reuniting and releasing a new album in 2017, I was incredibly excited. I remember listening to this immediately after it came out, but I don’t remember my initial reaction to it. Looking at the track list, the only thing that I can recollect hearing is “Oh Baby,” which is a fantastic song. I’m guessing I thought this was fine when I listened to it, but that I just gravitated back towards Sound of Silver and This is Happening when I needed to scratch that LCD itch. However, I’m really pumped to listen to this today, and I’m hoping I really enjoy it! American Dream was so much better than I remembered. Listening to this today reminded me why I got hooked on LCD Soundsystem to begin with: James Murphy and crew create music that’s beautiful, weird, and epic in scope. This album doesn’t lean as much into the dance-ability of their earlier run of albums, but LCD Soundsystem still managed to create a great album that pays homage to other musical acts, while still sounding completely unique to them. As I listened to this album, several songs that I’d forgotten about came rushing back to me as soon as they fired up. I thought American Dream was fantastic from start to finish, and even though a couple of tracks on the first half of the album weren’t as good as the rest of the album, the high parts more than make up for those bumps in the road. A few notes on the songs I loved the most: -“oh baby” is incredible. Those looped melodies are so great, and the bass playing is fantastic as well. James Murphy can do softer songs so well, and I love that this album leads off with such a beautiful and melodic song. It definitely sets a different tone than “Dance Yrself Clean” did on This Is Happening, but it works so well. -“How Do You Sleep” is great. The way it develops and evolves reminds me of “Dance Yrself Clean”. The bass playing is excellent, I loved the vocals, and the strings were fantastic. There was so much to take in on this song, and I wish I could have listened to it even more than I did. -I can’t believe I’d forgotten about “tonite.” Man, this song has such a great groove. Like “How Do You Sleep,” it just keeps getting better as it goes on. The backing vocals were fantastic, and the I loved the guitar playing that came in about halfway through the song. -I’m ashamed to admit that I’d forgotten “call the police” as well. I wish I could bottle the feeling I feel when the drums kick in after the introduction. There are so many great melodies on this song; the guitar and synthesizer playing are both fantastic. No song can make me feel like “All My Friends” does, but this comes close. -Ah, the title track to this album is the third track I’d forgotten about. I love that trembling sound of the main melody combined with the bright synth sounds that come in and out. James Murphy’s vocal delivery is great too, and I think this might be his most emotional delivery on the album. American Dream is fantastic, and personally, it’s another reminder of why I love LCD Soundsystem. This album feels more serious and darker in tone than the two albums that immediately preceded it, but even in the throes of that emotional weight, this is a beautiful and fun album that I absolutely loved rediscovering today.

I think this is LCD's second best album. For the life of me, I do not get the hate at all. I think it's pretty flawless start to finish. The only negative I have is the artwork, but that doesn't stop this being a 5 star record

The title track is my new favorite song. Dreamy.

This is a top album. I love the slow build ups on some of these songs, and the way these songs eventually reach their final crescendo. Some songs are nearly 10 minutes long, but they don't feel it, which is a sign of quality songwriting. As for those the heavy bass keys, its enough to piss your neighbours off.

Great album. Unique, raw, fun.

A great album from start to finish, chilled and uplifting with lots of depth. Definitely one I will put on again in full with a few tracks regularly appearing on my main playlist.

Really enjoyable. Groovy, chaotic, beautiful. What's not to love. Would dance to this any day if the week

Didn’t expect this to be so good. It’s pretty much all bangers, end to end.

Klasika, konecne neco modernejsiho. Tohle album jsem hodne poslouchal kdyz vyslo, ani nevim ze se z toho stal takovy hit.

Spännande och nytt, precis vad jag behövde

"This is what's happening, and it's freaking you out." This is on the shortlist for the greatest late-era indie record. Indie, past its prime, wrestling with its own mortality, and by extension the mortality of its creators. Which, to be fair, was James Murphy's entire schtick dating back to his band's lead single in 2002 (!?). Time ticks on. The whole record is great, but the run of singles stands above, particularly Call the Police, which is pure peak-U2 bombast and momentum. Black Screen may be the explicit Bowie eulogy, but it's an earlier line that's more evocative: "It moves like a virus and enters our skin/The first sign divides us, the second is moving to Berlin."

Wish I could 4.5 this but who cares! Life is too short to hate

Already a huge fan but this album shot up in my estimation after listening to this yesterday

Great stuff. Call the police is on the god tier

I’m not sure how often I’d realistically listen to it, but I did really like it. If Sound of Silver is the album you play at a house party, this is the album you play the morning after.

The second album by LCD Soundsystem that this app has delivered to me, and the second album that's going into permanent rotation on my phone. Absolutely phenomenal I've fallen in love with this band

I can not explain, I love this album. Just sucks me in. This is not about great songs, but about creating intense rhythmic atmospheres. Lots of influences from electronics, to Krautrochlk, to Wave, to King Crimson. But all curated to become its own being. Love or hate it, for me it is live.

I think LCD Soundsystem is so fun :p

Pretty cool!

Perfect album! I like it.

listening to the title track put me in a temporary mentally altered state forcing me to 5/5 this album

This album looks familiar. I don't remember ever listening though. I really enjoyed the last two songs. These types of drum beats work well for me. I'll probably check out the rest of their catalog.

So I'm a hipster. Fine.

I've been on a huge LCD Soundsystem kick recently, so this is great timing. I knew this album was on the list so I was specifically waiting for it to come up for my first listen. So let's see if it was worth the wait. This album seem to be a lot more drone / trance rather than groovy / funky. Which is fine, but what I love about LCD Soundsystem is that I want to dance, and I didn't really want to so much listening to this album. There is still a fair number of funky tracks, but most of them seem like slow burners. I still enjoyed this album and I think all of the songs are good, but I just expected something else. This album sounds great, I always love all the synth sounds they choose. However, this album is on the longer side, the last 2 songs could have been shorter. This is probably my least favorite LCD Soundsystem album but it is still very good and I had a good time listening to it. It is a shame that This Is Happening wasn't included on this list though. Low 5.

So much cooler than I was expecting.

I love LCD Soundsystem because there are so many callbacks to other artists. This is like a shoe gaze, mood music album. Would I call it my favorite, no. Would I still listen to it whenever I get a chance...100%.

Everything I like about LCDS, together in one place. Plus some newer sounds that only add to it.

Superchulo. Un cinco comenzando por oh baby.

Incred. The title track is absolute game changer

I loved this album. There’s a part like a minute in on the song “how do you sleep” that reminds me of the end of Tyler the Creator’s song “Running out of Time”

James Murphy and his Soundsystem have released 4 records. Every single one of them could be on here. On their latest effort, Murphy shows that he's been listening to more Talking Heads than Daft Punk, and it just works. The title track is hauntingly beautiful.

If James Murphy wants to become the new Talking Heads, why not let him?

This is great. call the police is my favourite song. oh baby is amazing as well.

Wow LCD Soundsystem is definitely one of those groups that I’ve heard about for a long, long time. I’d see them on the bill for music festivals and always think to myself that I should see what they’re about. But that’s the beauty of this project - I get assigned anything from old favorites, to bands I’ve never heard of or never would’ve found, to bands I’ve always meant to check out like this. I adored this album. I don’t think I’ve heard anything like this. It felt like a fever dream where Talking Heads went completely electronic and joined up with MGMT. I had no idea how great a combination that would be but here we are. I honestly wish I’d gotten to this review sooner (I’ve been backlogged this week), because I feel like I would’ve had more profound things to say about this album I’m going to give five stars. But suffice it to say that I was blown away by this and would absolutely love to hear more. Great stuff. Five stars. Also, “other voices” is probably one of the best tracks I’ve heard in this project so far. Standout Tracks: oh baby, other voices, change yr mind, how do you sleep?, emotional haircut

Great album. Doesn't seem like it's really an hour long til you get to the 12 minute ender, but that one is also great. These guys just know how to correctly harness the energy needed for each song, very well crafted

I was starting to get discouraged from all these "greatest albums" list, then this popped up! Faith In humanity restored

Very enjoyable. I've listened to and enjoyed a fair amount of LCD Soundsystem, but hadn't listened to this album before. It's great.

Loved. I need more electronica in my life.

Superchulo. Un cinco comenzando por oh baby

Superchulo. Un cinco comenzando por oh baby.

Loved it

banger

Kæmpe banger. "I used to" blev lige min yndlingssang igen.

Dare I say, I hear some very heavy Talking Heads influence throughout this? Other Voices could straight up be on Remain in Light with those funky polyrythms! What a great album and what a great way to put a modern spin on what laid the influence for these sounds. LOVED it.

LCD is my favorite

Lightly dance a sway That builds into full on trance Oops… grooved the day done

Excellent

A lot more enjoyable than the first album, nice all throughout with good mix of things

Fuck yes

gets better every time i listen to it

Clever arrangements, solid song work, great to listen to.

I love this. It's not my favorite album by LCD Soundsystem, but it's still a super solid 5. It's just such a unique sound, and I find it extremely hard to be even slightly bored listening.

What a band! Fantastic, gush, gush, fawn. 5 Star masterpiece.

Fantastic album, Call the Police a work of wonder

Superou em muito as minhas expectativas, disco garante aproveitar o tempo com camadas sonoras incríveis.

Excellent!

Surprisingly great, the instrumentation is to my liking, and feels unique.

Superchulo. Un cinco comenzando por oh baby.

Lofi with words

“I knew we were going to have to be significantly better than we ever were, for anyone to say we were even half as good as we used to be”. That is what James Murphy said in regard to American Dream. James chose to step away from his band during a time where most other groups would be working nonstop. Being at the height of your popularity, and deciding to wrap it up is a bold move. Releasing a new album 7 years later is also a bold move. I may not be able to speak on how the quality of this compares to the quality of their previous albums, but what I can say for sure is that this is truly something powerful. While listening to this, I kept on thinking the same thing over and over again. This really reminds me of Talking Heads. I’m aware it’s silly. But as I got further into it, that idea only became more prevalent. James sounds so much like David Byrne here. The most glaring example to me was Other Voices, where he yelps “You’re just a baby now” like a Speaking in Tongues backing vocalist. There are definitely some 80’s post-punk influences here, particularly in the drums. This is just a more modernized and heavier Remain in Light. I can envision Tina playing the bass lines on this album. These songs are pretty long. The average track length is probably somewhere between 5-6 minutes. But I think this album really needed the songs to be that long. Because the build up that leads to the climax always pays off. Without fail, every time. There is such a density of things going on, and they needed to create space for all of those things to exist. The length of each song is just a byproduct of that. The closing track is both the antithesis of this idea and the polar opposite of it. It stands at 12 minutes, the longest song they’ve ever made, and is the most atmospheric song on the whole album. I’m going to make another Remain in Light comparison, but it really feels like their version of The Overload. The last few minutes with the piano feels otherworldly as it rings out. This might be the longest review I’ve ever written. I’m not sure why. This album just struck me. Different than most do. It feels inherently special in my heart. Who knows if Black Screen will be the last LCD Soundsystem song. If it is, I can say with confidence they ended on a strong note. Rating: 9/10

LCDeez nuts (in your mouth)

We all know that this is viewed as "lesser LCD Soundsystem," with its emphasis on a slower, synth-heavy production that oozes the sound of the after party more than the party that is prior albums in their catalogue, and while I understand that at first that can be really deterring to one looking for this band to be their 21st century Talking Heads, with the dance-y existential grooves to get their toes tapping and hips swaying, but I think once you remove a little context from an album like this, you start to appreciate it a little more overall, and those slow songs become deeply layered tracks with so much to enjoy and pick apart, that are so deeply moving they sweep the listener away with each trembling, robotic chord, and you really get taken up away in it all. This is an album not for partying, but rather the loneliness that strikes when the party is over, and I know very little in the musical world that captures such a feeling so well, especially in the titular track, perhaps one of the best in the entire group's discography. It does have those moments of dance to them still, such as the seemingly fan-favorite Call the Police, and nearly every track here having that build up that is always landed with perfection, making each song something to look forward to, because even if the start slow, they almost always make the long listen worth it, and at over an hour long, its incredible how little the album drags, only really rearing its head with the final track's admittedly hefty load which is not worth the sum of its parts, unfortunately, but even sitting there in those final moments of loneliness I'm taken aback into a feeling I've hardly experienced, and it can certainly be a gut punch, but one I'll happily embrace multiple times over. I do hope that an eventual LCD Soundsystem return will return to the upbeat dancing, but its important to explore a group's options, and I feel time will only be kind to this album, and if we never do get that next album, then this will be something oddly poetic as closure, something I'm happy to say I enjoy. That album, is personally, my least favorite of all the Talking Heads on this list because of that reason, controversial, I know, but I feel when a whole album is made with that style rather than just a couple of the songs, it works far better. There's songs here where the synths feel like they're sweeping you off your feet and it's magical, and when it does get you moving on the rare occasion, it is very satisfying. I can definitely see this as boring, but I think in the right mindset, this can still be very engaging. Even the bloated length doesn't feel too bad, which is impressive.

What a comeback album. Still danceable, still funny, still cool. The whole career of LCD Soundystem is five stars.

Classic with incredible melody.

Why was I sleeping on this. Vibey and tranche but also old school guitar and vocals

The Long Goodbye had become a sabbatical. It turned into an american dream, the kind that soon turned sour and uncertain and all together unknowing. LCD Soundsystem, after years away, returned to a changed world; a world that they, at some point, helped build. Older, but much wiser and weary, they gave us what they did best but with a much more experienced hand and mind to whip to shape the kind of songs they wanted us to hear. american dream is one of the great comeback albums in recent memory, not only for picking up where the band left off but adding new elements to their sound that feels as though they were adept in them anyway. Whether or not this is the (actual) last one, in spite of all the reunions since then, it feels good to know that LCD Soundsystem can still be at the top of their game.

Amazing record! It didn't fully hit me at first but when it did it hit hard! A very grown up record that you can dance to but know your knees can't take too much movement so you sort of fake it as best as you can!

LCD have consistently been one of my favourite bands since about 2007, so I am probably biased when I say I think this is a great record. For me, LCD and The National are the best bands of the last 20 years, nothing comes close. This record is actually the highest rated LCD album on Pitchfork, which surprises me as I wouldnt put it at the top. It’s definitely a return to a more nostalgic sound with big beats and fused punk which was easier to find on their debut as opposed to their follow ups. It’s full of bangers and random turns, with oh baby, i used to, tonite, emotional haircut being my highlights, not to mention that I think call the police is one of the best songs they have ever done. Hell of a way to announce a come back after a hiatus. The end of the record occasionally drifts but everytime I listen to the last two tracks something new pops up, so perhaps they growers. If the other 3 LCD records are a 5 for me, I’d say this is a 4.8, despite it being more well received by people who know better

This record is a great metaphor for LCD Soundsystem's post-retirement return and perhaps even for James Murphy himself: it's a little bloated, self-righteous, and long in the tooth, yet still showcases a singular style and sound I can't get enough of.

Have always been a big fan of LCD Soundsystem. This album is great, lots of favourite tracks: oh baby, other voices, call the police, american dream, and emotional haircut.

I'm a big fan of this band. Maybe not my favorite record of theirs but I still happy put it on. Tonite and Call the Police are the stand outs for me.

I really enjoyed this.

Really enjoyed the album

Genre: EDM, disco, psychedelic. Review: Surprisingly brilliant. Never thought I'd enjoy this kind of music, but right from the start, tracks such as "other voices" and "i used to" were just so creative and unique. Towards the end, tracks like "call the police" and "american dream" have a more soft-rock / psychedelic feel. Great variety and range. Rating: 9/10

Thumping, pulsating, nihilistic, chuck it all in. Make it big and large and loud. This album does not let up and although there are times when you'd rather be listening to Talking Heads, eventually the sound overwhelms and there you are mesmerised and bopping along, almost meditating to the music. The track pulse (v.1) is something really rather good.

Fantastisk album, kjempebra å vite at listen har sanger nyere enn 2005

I absolutely love this album and have listened to it regularly since its release. What I love about it, above all, is simply the balance of electronic and rock elements and structures. That and the honest and dryly humorous lyrics hit me just right. I find it imminently relatable. And that's perhaps because of where I am in life, and James Murphy's own unconventional trajectory, plus his ability to make the most of being self deprecating. I find it very inspiring.

Generally, people are stoked for This is Happening and the self titled album, but this is like a more refined, polished LCD. I don't remember ever listening to it, but I'm just a baby.

Sound of Silver was my number 1 discovery from going through this list last year. Jumped to my most played album of 2022. I had known LCD Soundsystem enough before, could likely name 5 of their songs and at least the name of their albums. I would always tune in whenever they were the musical guest on SNL. 2022 I really made LCD Sound System one of my bands though. I suspect part of it was that my favourite band (Arcade Fire) had some bad press this year and I haven’t sorted my feelings about following them. American Dream is incredible. It sounds so much wider and deeper than their previous albums. Call The Police and other voices I think are my favourites. This one still has that LCD thing where a song is just grooving and pounding along for a while and the second they have a key change your head just explodes. Love it. Really hope they put out a new album. New Body Rhumba they did for White Noise is incredible and deserves the Oscar.

American Dream

How can you not love this album?

Skitbra?? Varför har jag aldrig hört det här förut?

All the fun of LCD Soundsystem - but elevated and more for your teeth to sink into - the songs are quite epic and go almost into the realm of depeche mode, Bauhaus and the ilk. Great album lovely surprise - hadn’t heard it before.

❣️

I have heard of and maybe heard bits of LCD Soundsystem, but never listened to any of their albums. I immediately liked the music. But it was a real surprise that they sound like what I imagine the Talking Heads would sound like if they had formed in the 21st century. Maybe even with a little David Bowie mixed in. I had gone into this expecting a dance band for a younger crowd, and instead I got something much more experimental and interesting. Then I realized that this band had been around for 15 years when they made this and the lead singer was born in 1970… so much for my musical knowledge… Ignorant expectations aside, giving this a proper listen was something that I should have done a while ago. LCD Soundsystem is doing some really interesting things here and carrying forward some really important musical legacies. I love this album and need to check out more from them.

9/10 a really amazing album from the edge of electro and rock

Very chill vibes, I like it.

how do you sleep

Pounding and creative. A real manifesto for this collective

love love love!

This is the first time I myself was the one to put on an album by this band, and yet to me they were THE sound of parties in college. Such a good mix of indie rock energy with beats that make you move your feet in a way like you have lost control of them. They are so cool, have such a hip idgaf vibe that makes them stand out out so so well for me. I love on this album that they aren't afraid to squeeze in more layers and textures and synths on top of one another with reckless abandon. All the meanwhile Murphy's soft, high baritone sits behind them and peeks out at just the right times. Everyone has albums that teleport them to periods of time and I think that somehow, and unfortunately, the more you listen to an album that once was cemented as a "teleport" album, the more the concrete bond breaks away- maybe that's why I've avoided playing this album to death because for me it is so strongly tied to college parties at TCNJ and I want to preserve that. Regardless, it's such a killer album.

LCD I love you, but you're bringing me down. Because you haven't released an album in like 5 years! This album really brings out their Talking Heads side and I enjoyed dancing to it.

Een van de beste plaatjes van de afgelopen 10 jaar voor mij. Super coole mix van rock en dance!

Dit is een ronduit geweldig album! De afgelopen jaren al heel vaak gedraaid en elke keer is het weer genieten.

Excellent tunes - great for the working day will listen to some more of their tunes 🤩

Superchulo. Un cinco comenzando por oh baby

This album has everything

I am not familiar with the LCD SOUNDSYSTEM, but slightly aware of the band’s existence. I do not know what to expect. After listening to AMERICAN DREAM, WOW! my first impression is my being surprised at how much I liked this album. First song reminded me of BAUHAUS (musically), several songs remind me of THE TALKING HEADS, another song reminded of THE CURE, even another of KRAFTWERK. A great sounding mixture of different influences and styles. In 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, one previous album, SOUND OF SILVER (2007) is included and looking forward to listening to it. Rate Artist: LCD SOUNDSYSTEM (5.0) Rate Album (Year): AMERICAN DREAM (2017 Original) (5.0)

Surprisingly enjoyable - Definitely a great album. Seems to me that it's my gateway to LCD Sounsystem

great album

Some very fun retro futuristic stuff. This is an album that I think might be best enjoyed late at night while driving with some friends.

Oh Baby and American Dream....so hauntingly good, melancholy nostalgia. Other tracks are fun dance bops for all the hipsters.

This is an excellent album. Tonite is such a banger

Ну мне збс, короче, 9/10 Лучшие треки: i used to, how do you sleep?, call the police, emotional haircut, american dream Не самые лучшие треки: change yr mind (поскучнее остальных), black screen (несколько аморфная закрывашка, не то чтобы достойная быть 12-минут в длину).

Impossible to listen to this too loud or too many times. Not every song is a banger but they line up in a complex enjoyable way.

10/10, I don’t really know what that was but I loved it It felt like you got The Talking Heads and somehow made it even more weird It really was something special I’m looking forward to listening the rest of their discography

Amazing

To put it gently, I have aids, big chungus among us cock

Love it, very chill vibes, and the tunes are fantastic

5/5 - this was my first time listening to LCD and it was awesome

What a beast.

All of the sounds

Well I’ve listened to this album too many times before. Highly recommend it. Top 3 tracks for me are Oh Baby, American Dream, Black Screen

So freaking dancy its insane

Jimmy forever and ever. Six stars

the fourth album by alternative dance group lcd soundsystem; the album was revealed shortly before the band announced they were getting back together after a half-decade disbandment. this album is considered to be a bit more moody and eclectic compared to their other works. a lot of the post-punk/alt revival stuff on this collection really tends to be hit or miss, but i'm stoked to report that this album actually sounds good! dance revival stuff always seems to take bits of old and makes it new again, and this is essentially what these guys are doing here. some of it is more rock-ish sounding while others have a bit of disco feel. some of the songs, like how they're composed and ESPECIALLY how they're sung, it's giving me STRONG talking heads vibes. while not a perfect five-star, i found this album to be quite stylish, for what it is.

I remember being a little disappointed when this came out as it’s no Sound of Silver. That said, it’s held up really well and it’s a damn solid listen. My only gripe is it needs an edit. At an hour and 22 minutes it’s just too damn long. James was probably being a stubborn SOB on that but somebody should’ve said he let’s trim 4 songs off this thing.

Interesting. Keeps moving. I like it better than the other album here

better than i remembered after a few re-listens. i think i was just salty with him for ending the band in such a big way only to come back less than a decade later and start non-stop touring again.

heart achingly nostalgic

Great modern album.

I think I must like this genre. Shoutout 1001 for putting me on

Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but I enjoy the dreamy, plinky sound.

Surprisingly good, I am shook.

What an oddly anachronistic album, with lots of 80s electronic sounds mixed with that early 2000s indie rock flavour. Kinda liked it, nothing super spectacular but certainly somewhat original

Colorful arrangements with sounds that reach back AND push forward. A generous selection of beautiful music

I really liked the album. It reminded me of OMD's music. The only track that really bothered me was "Other Voices," which had more of a hip-hop vibe. 4/5

Awesome - loved it

I love this group. I love the songs

Is this the best LCD soundsystem album? No. But do I still like it? Yeah. I have a soft spot for em

While some tracks do drag, LCD Soundsystem didn’t lose a single beat during their hiatus. A solid album, and I can see why Dimery included it.

Sounds like it came straight out of the 80s but I like it anyway

I enjoyed this! Nice to have on in the background, unobtrusive

Interesting

Call the police is a masterpiece. The album cover is not. Also a little bloated, especially with the last song, and a lot of the songs feel exactly the same as the last. The instrumentals, when they get going, get GOING though. Overall pretty fire. Best: call the police Worst: tonite Liked songs: 8/10, 80% Low 4

A destacar: Track 1 - Oh Baby Track 3 - I Used To Track 5 - Hoy Do You Sleep? Track 6 - Tonite Track 7 - Call The Police Track 8 - American Dream Track 10 - Black Screen

LCD Soundsystem ended. They even played their final show to much pomp and circumstance. And then they were back with American Dream. Many were saying the band should have kept their final live release as their de facto final release, but I'm thankful they came back because this album is awesome. Some moments are more straightforward Synthpop than on their previous releases, like "Oh Baby" or the title track, but there is still plenty of the electronic Dance Punk sounds that made the band famous in the first place. The influences continue to be pretty obvious. We have Talking Heads on "Other Voices", U2 on the vocal yelps toward the end of "Emotional Haircut", and David Bowie pretty much all over. LCD Soundsystem have yet to follow up on this release, but there have been murmurings of a new album coming for the last couple of years. I, for one, cannot wait! Key tracks: Oh Baby Tonite Call the Police American Dream Emotional Haircut

Day 281 Probably my favourite musical (half) memory ever is watching LCD Soundsystem at Glastonbury 2014 as the sunset, it was one of those gigs where absolutely everything just clicked, a real connection between the artist and the crowd. It’s probably the closest I’ve ever felt to a spiritual experience in my life (not going to lie, a couple of very strong disco biscuits helped) Despite that, I’ve never really got along with their studio albums at all and had actually never listened to this one at all, on first couple of listens I definitely prefer it to any of the pre break up stuff, pulse (v1) is a banger Highlights Oh baby Emotional haircut. Pulse v1

Enjoyed this a lot more than I expected.

This reminds me of talking heads

Another good one from LCD Soundsystem.

A cool part about this project is listening to an artist that has such clear influences from something you've already listened to, in this case I don't think I'd really realize how much LCD Soundsystem is indebted to Talking Heads. There are hints of other things we've gotten recently like Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk, but doesn't seem like much of a deep analysis to see the TH influence front and center. I think this album is quite good, and to me it feels more like an indie rock record with electronic influences rather than the other way around. oh baby is a great opener, and i love the way that how do you sleep? builds and builds from the opening percussion. Some of the tracks definitely get a little long and I don't think this is a perfect album by any means, but a lot to like for me.

Overall: 7/10 I would be shocked if James Murphy wasn't heavily inspired by Talking Heads. So many songs on this had me thinking "this would fit so well on Remain in Light". I enjoyed the different sounds on this album, and I'm glad I've finally heard more than one song from LCD Soundsystem. The songs can be a little long and repetitive though. Fav Song: change yr mind

The belters are immense, some of the filler not so great though. Prob 3.5 stars but giving 4

🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑 (rounded up for emotional impact) Opinions: how strange. As usual, I made the mistake of browsing global reviews for american dream before even viewing the album, which somehow manage to offend me even for albums I've never heard. Case in point: I really enjoy a few LCD soundsystem songs, but haven't heard a full album, and almost skipped this one were it not for the reviews' comparisons to Brian Eno, Talking Heads, and David Bowie (all of whom did it better, and therefore no one else can ever touch post-punk again). While I have a feeling it's sort of a mistake to have listened to their last album first, this, to me, reaffirmed that I'm an alien whose fundamental, emotional makeup must be different to consensus humanity, because I really resonated with whatever's going on here. Derivative or not, James Murphy's one uptight motherfucker and I'll stand for that flag—it adds a particularity to his rhythms that itches the meticulous instinct in me. Very precise, but not at the cost of the emotionality whatsoever. Certainly, that could be subject to change—there's actually a melancholy that always struck me about LCD Soundsystem, ever since I was a little kid, and it's something that I feel furtive approaching—it's not always something I want to immerse myself in given its glum droopiness. I'm gonna give this a four because a few songs really hit a spot for me, but compared with Remain in Light and Low (the other two fours at this point), it might fall just short—I'll have to listen again and see. 1: Bad | 2: Okay, No Desire to Revisit | 3: Good, Conditionally (OR Inconsistent Mix of Qualities | 4: Great (OR Technically amazing but missing the sauce emotionally) | 5: Amazing

The music video for, "oh baby" was haunting. I am also digging emotional haircut. Overall, very enjoyable album.

Some absolute smoke on this record. Not as consistently great as done of their others, and the second half should be at the front imo, but still a banger. When this group locks in, not much better.

I enjoyed it, fun music

I like the shifts from floaty to pacey and back to floaty again, unique listening experience.

At points could not believe my ears

fands überraschend gut. Geile Bass lines - Fokusmusik!

A semi-dancey synth dance-punky kinda record. It maintains the LCD vibe but toning down some of the dancy beats and punky energy (both are still there though) to focus on some more atmospheric sounds, weirder guitar lines, extended building songs (they always had some of those too), and serene moments. James Murphy is in solid form of his nonchalant talking/singing lyrics that balance satirical irony with complete earnestly and reflective depth. A quality album overall - it doesn’t excite me in the way some other earlier output does, but you can sense how the band has matured.

8 / 10

As with all of LCD’s albums, the PRODUCTION is great, and there’s some really good songs on here

8/10 Ok, so I disliked LCD Soundsystem when it wasn't cool to. I found them snug, boring and soulless. However, a couple of years ago I reassessed and began to enjoy their music. Now, looking at the other reviews, it appears that I'm still wrong and none likes them anymore

Over the years I have heard good things about this album but have never got round to listening to it, until this weekend, and it did not disappoint. Will definitely be checking out some of their other music. I have heard that Sound of Silver is also worth a listen.

Strong return by LCD Soundsystem. Lacks the really top notch songs of their earlier career. Side three is the best.

Back half of the album makes it

The melodies on this one are really great. Like with most albums that cross the one-hour mark, I was initially skeptical and expected some padding, but I was glad to be wrong. It’s an interesting record with strong rhythms and consistently good songwriting. The vocal performance can get a bit repetitive, but the lyrics make up for it. The instrumentals keep a sense of tension throughout. You never quite know what will follow a muffled guitar or a subtle synth. I also found the first half to be more experimental, and it works especially well there. The best songs for me were "how do you sleep" and "call the police".

4 stars

Wasn't really sure what to expect, but I kinda enjoyed this. I might give them another listen.

Pretty good. Like LCD a lot. So many of their songs are 10s for me and some are complete misses but I liked this album.

Obviously their other album is a classic so I was interested to see how this one would hold up against it but I gotta say, I loved it Super easy to get into, long but earns its length, doesnt feel that long, full of great stuff. Like it alot

I think overall this might be my least favorite LCD Soundsystem album (unless you count 45:33). It probably is a better album than the debut, but the highlights on that are so undeniably great it elevated the rest. This is still a great album with fantastic synth work and vocal deliveries aplenty. I just think This Is Happening or, better yet, The Long Goodbye should have been here instead. Favorite songs were oh baby, change yr mind, how do you sleep?, and tonite.

82 minutes no!!!! I hated the last one I doubt this come back album that is universally disliked is going to change my mind. Let’s find out. Fine, I liked it more when I didn’t forget I was listening to it. Resident Evil Requiem and this album don’t vibe too hard but that’s what got me through this. Emotional haircut great song. This felt a lot more fun than the last entry. I’m not entirely sold on it but I like it a lot more. Between a 3 and a 4, I’ll sit on it for the rest of the day. Pulses and black screen really want me to hit this with a 3 but I have to remember if this wasn’t “pop” I’d love it.

It’s a step down from other LCD albums but unc still got it!

I really liked their first couple of albums but this is new to me. I always liked their sound but never really loved any of the full albums. When it's good, it's excellent, but it also has some runs that are a bit more generic and forgettable. I don't see myself coming back to it regularly but if it's on, I'll enjoy it again.

Could stand to listen more. Surprising amount lyric depth which is why I say a relisten is needed

Already have a few songs from this album on my liked songs playlist.

Enjoyed. Reminded me a bunch of 2017 when I went to see them

In 2016 at the reunion gig for LCD Soundsystem, over 5 years after they had finished up, we felt very much like James Murphy in the song “Losing My Edge”. We were HUGE fans of LCD Soundsystem since almost the beginning. We'd seen them live so many times, that we'd lost count. We'd seen them at small venues like Tripod and festivals like The Electric Picnic so many times, going all the way back to 2005, that we'd taken it for granted. At the reunion gig in 2016, again at The Electric Picnic, we were surrounded by a much younger crowd. We were feeling our years catching up on us for the first time. People were talking about what they'd heard about the early gigs, or the farewell concert back in 2010. They had heard about it. But we were there. LCD Soundsystem were such a big part of our youth, that it was a genuinely emotional moment seeing them reunite after all those years. Especially when “New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down” ended the main set. So to hear that not only was this a reunion tour, but that they were also releasing a new album, was seriously exciting. “This Is Happening” was a worthy follower of the amazing “Sound of Silver”, so we were dying to see what James Murphy would come out with next. This is a more subdued LCD than in those previous albums. Their debut album had some amazing moments, but it felt like Murphy was trying everything to find his sound. The two absolute masterpieces that followed-up, saw him find and perfect that sound. “Sound of Silver” was much more self-assured, and “This Is Happening” had him fully comfortable behind the wheel of the LCD ice cream truck. For all of the energy that makes up those two albums, this definitely felt like a calmer version of the band. It had been a full 10 years since “Sound of Silver”, and 7 since “This is Happening”. The same sound that defined LCD Soundsystem was here, but with a more mellow and reflective side to it. I’ve always said that LCD Soundsystem are like the lovechild of Talking Heads and The B-52s. The Talking Heads comparisons are still especially relevant here too, in songs like “change yr mind” with its incredible guitar tones acting as both texture and percussion. It might be a calmer affair than previous outings, but it's never dull. Songs like “how do you sleep?” go hard and absolutely kick off. James Murphy might not be known for his voice, but when he needs to, he can really bring impact to a song with his vocals. “American Dream” is not “This Is Happening” and it’s definitely not “Sound of Silver”. If I’m honest, when I go to listen to LCD Soundsystem, this album isn’t what I’d go to put on. I’m going to them for the energy of those previous two albums. But I’ve definitely not given this album enough credit, as it has a lot to offer. And it’s the calmer, ballad-esque songs where it shines most. “oh baby” is the opener, and the best example of this more mature side of their sound. It’s a slow-burner, but an absolutely gorgeous song. We’ve gone on to see LCD Soundsystem a number of times since that reunion gig back in 2016. They’re just as good as back in 2005, and just like the collection of music on “American Dream”, they haven’t lost their edge, they’ve just grown into their sound.

I love some LCD but somehow hadn't listened to this album in full before. I didn't really care for the song tonite when I first heard it and the gap they had been away didn't really feel long enough to get me hyped for their comeback material, which is a shame because this is pretty good and their legacy seems pretty secure to me. Favourite tracks oh baby and call the police.

what a cool album. I have been listening to this for about a week on and off. A great mélange of electronic and "rock". 4.2*

This is definitely not the easiest LCD Soundsystem album to listen to but it's arguably their greatest accomplishment. If I remember correctly, James Murphy had briefly been working with Bowie during the final years of his life. Bowie's death inspired Murphy to reform LCD Soundsystem and create a more fearless album than their previous works. Which probably explains why it dives deeper into a dark post punk sound than their previous work. It's probably more alienating to the average listener, with only a handful of dancier songs to keep them going. It's probably more introspective and maybe even a little more depressing than what came before (not that Murphy's lyrics were ever that cheery to begin with). I have to admit that I like some songs more than others but I have a soft spot for this band and probably always will. As mentioned in a previous review, LCD Soundsystem aren't necessary better than the sum of their influences, but they're more than enough.

Uncle Sam is playing at my house. At my house.

Great band, bit lengthy

3.8 Must admit, I was wrong about this one. When this appeared today I was a bit taken aback, as someone who used to be obsessed with LCD I always thought this was their worst album. I don't think it helped that I thought This is Happening was too pretentious (their early days pretentiousness before he was big I actually liked strangely), and the Long Goodbye footage took the mick (are we meant to believe the cameraman was waiting all night next to his bed ready for him to wake up and get dressed?). Then this came out and it felt like more of the same. I then saw them live at Ally Pally and it was slightly disappointing, no crowd interaction, which enforced my pretentiousness gripe and I completely switched off them. Listening back to this album 10 years later has been an interesting experience. There's a lot more on this that now makes sense - the homage to Bowie is very clear, and very well done. But even more - Emotional Haircut which I used to hate sounds quite Sonic Youth'ish in a way. The latter half of How Do You Sleep is fantastic, whereaa I always dismissed it for having a too pretentious opener. The bonus track, now quite enjoyable, quite Four Tet/Floating Points esque. So overall, I was wrong, still has pretentious tendancies but no more than the first two, which I still think are incredible albums. Maybe this has exorcised my LCD demon and I can now go back and start enjoying them again. Thank you 1,001.

Arguably one of the best bands of the 21st century. This is really a pleasure of a listen.

Courtney: exactly the kind of thing I was hoping to discover here. Craig: really smooth vibes. Sounds like David Byrne

LCD Soundsystem's blend of electronica-meets-acoustic instruments isn't typically my preferred cup of tea, but this album is groovy as all hell. Hypnotic at times, even. The band isn't redefining their sound or anything, but the music is super danceable and has some fun layers to it.

Zuurstokmuziek, altijd leuk.

It was very good. Enjoy there techno vibes.

3.5⭐️/5 02.15.2026

C'était intéressant, rien que pour l'originalité et l'électro je mets 4

really fun

Even steven gode greier

Very interesting daring album. I've heard of LCD soundsystem before, but this definitely makes me want to listen to more of them

A pretty fun album, a bit on the long side, and didn't really catch me, still remained pretty enjoyable overall.

Honestly, the front half of this album is easily 5 stars. Which was a real pleasant surprise. But I really could have done without the 20-minute instrumental-only closers.

A head bopping album! Elements of faithless, the killers, fresh electronica that doesn’t go too hard and clubby. Great opening track, very different feel with other voices. I used to - verrrry cool, then the guitar comes in and wraps it all up like a rotating burrito. Change yr mind - funky outta nowhere! Naaaasty bass. How do you sleep? Mike oldfield helps, I think I hear some tubular bells in the background. Ready for war. Amazing track that builds and builds! Tonite more upbeat, disco beats, cool vocals. Little too one pace and one dimensional for me. Call the police - arcade fire, Radiohead, cool track. Title track: fire as well. Loved the outro track, put me into a calming trance. Great way to finish, great album! 4/5. Best song for me was how do you sleep?

A great listen from front to back. It may not be their best work, but the mix of upbeat tracks and slower, more reflective moments keeps things engaging throughout. The balance between energy and mood works really well, making it a consistently enjoyable album with plenty to appreciate.

A lot of fun this one

Worst one, still big murph though

Like it. First listen....instant Stranger Things vibes going on. Love the 80s sheen to it. Right up my street.

Ill give them a 4 here This is good its still a 7. But Sound of Silver and This is Happening blow this one out of the water

I think if LCD had been around when I was in my 20s, I would’ve been very into them. They tick a lot of boxes for me. Their arrival, success (and hype) kind of passed me by because my music discovery focus was elsewhere at the time. I have their first 3 albums which I enjoy plenty, and this has been a very strong listen today so it will eventually join my collection from its place on my wish list. The thing is if they had joined my conscience at a different time in my life, I might have actually been waiting at the record shop door on release day. As it is, their albums are a good listen, but I can’t imagine getting passionate about them like I can with say The Fall or Primal Scream or Beck.

I have probably heard a few songs by them, but I'm not super familiar. But ya, this sounded good.

What a quietly beautiful beginning to an album.

This was good just not for me.

Is it derivative, or paying homage to 70s-80s New Wave bands? Either way, to me these guys took the best parts of those inspirations and made a cohesive album of straight bangers. Looove the synths they use. And I considered myself an LCD Soundsystem hater before this! Standouts: oh baby • i used to • change yr mind • how do you sleep? • call the police • american dream

Solid album in which I enjoyed the consistent industrial sound. Short of 5 stars as it drops off at the end

Solid album. Dragged on a bit in the second half. Standout songs: Oh baby Change yer mind Call the police

Headphones album for sure. I did a listen on speakers and didn't get much. How do you sleep on headphones really started to go somewhere. Emotional haircut is a misstep.

LCD Soundsystem historically managed to avoid me. They are one of the groups that I'd probably like to check out more when this is all over. Very listenable on the car stereo driving around today, but much better on headphones. Some of the tracks could have been cut down. A cohesive album that can put you in a trance.

I hadn’t heard this before, and it’s not something I would’ve thought I’d like. I’m not really into electronica. But it sounds like something from 1984! And it’s damn good! Moody, beat-heavy, quirky (especially in the vocals). These are some of my favorite things! Wow.

Tolles Album. Tolle Band.

Ging gut runter!

Decent

Very good album. Love this band!

Great album! This was a hell of a comeback album!

Thoroughly enjoyed! i used to and change yr mind particularly. It could have finished at emotional haircut but last two long ones were also very good. pulse (v.1) smells like a hippy dippy Glasto tent at 3am.

Grand. Best listened too live, stood in a field at 1AM too out of your mind Stand out - emotional haircut, i used to, change yr mind

Not got int lcd Heard one or two songs. But this album was good I enjoyed it Definitely gonna give them more of a go

Enjoyed this more than the other 2 albums of theirs I’ve listened to. Last track drags big time though.

Like Talking Heads grandkids. Album Art 1/5

Love LCD Sound system but this is nowhere near the quality of Sound of Silver.

Excellent choice for old years day!

After burning out on the first few LCD Soundsystem albums in 2007 I've rarely returned to them, and never bothered with this one - my loss! The best part of the band is the movement between and combination of high energy dance stuff and the ecstatic tender slow jams. The synth sounds are amazing, the dense layers of instrumentation that builds the songs are gorgeous, the vocals are simple, direct and super effective and setting the emotional tenor. Reminds me of some of the best bits of the cure (the lush arrangements to sink into) and the talking heads (the infectious polyrhythms).

listened while cleaning my room, fye album, lcd soundsystem W, actual rating 4.4 some songs r just a little drawn out for me

pretty good yeah this white boy has some groove

loved it more than “this is happening”, but it had “dance yrself clean”

I liked it a lot. The last song was not my cup of tea tho

oh baby 2017 united states Dance-punk revival/ dance-rock/ electronic rock/ electronica/ art rock/ alternative dance

Surprisingly good.

Great album by a band I really like. They've got a unique sound and attitude.

Weirdly I just relistened to This is Happening yesterday. Giving this one 4 stars because TIH is superior but this one’s still great

Enjoyed it. Interesting to go from Kid A to this. This is the type of electronic rock blend I can get into.

Solid album

I was expecting club music. It is dance, and electronic, but it's got a lot more variety and melody than I expected. Similar to Talking Heads sometimes, and Gorgio Moroder sometimes. Just the kind of dance I enjoy. Emotional Haircut is so crazy innovative. Yeah, this one's a keeper. 4.5/5

NYC compatible

Who else but a sound engineer in a basement to usher in the age of paranoid android music? My ears are ringing and tbh, worth it ✅✅✅✅ oh baby ✅✅ call the police ✅✅✅✅ american dream

A lovely dream; a full body massage

still don’t get the artwork here. glad they got back together though, saw them again the other night - good band.

I remember listening to this album when it came out and even thought to myself, “This is a really good album!”, but never came back for some reason. His first several albums sound like an artist finding himself. This album sounds like an artist who knows themselves and this is their passion project. I didn’t realize how much Bowie influence I heard in this. I actually listened to the song Tonite and Bowie’s Fashion back to back just to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating. I’m gonna make it easy and say I didn’t like this song Pulse. The rest I thought we were great particularly the song How do you Sleep. This time I made a note to come back to this one and give it a listen for a fifth time…

Better than I thought it'd be. Definitely sounds a little dated for an album that came out in 2017, but I still enjoyed it.

Fun. Sounded a lot like talking heads but less annoying.

reminds me of talking heads I like the story telling type of lyrics black screen has cool NIN vibes

Had a lot of good songs

Not his strongest work

This is a very weird inclusion, because its not a bad album, but it is just a lesser version of the other 2 big LCD albums. It follows a very similar recipe and I think pretty much all the tracks are decently ok, but it just lacks some real standout moments. Fave Tracks: oh baby, tonite 3.7/5

H: this is how you do long songs well. The songs were progressive and interesting to listen to. Right off the bat this album started off strong and was a joy to listen to until the end. 8/10 H fav song: tonite Z: this album feels trapped right between nostalgic and present. The lead singer’s vocals (very Bono-esque) layer nicely on the driving synthesizer and drum work. The energy tails off a bit 2/3 into the album, but it was still enough to keep me engaged. 7/10 Z fav song: how do you sleep?

heard this before (along with the rest of LCD Soundsystem's discography) Oh Baby - 5/5 Other Voices - 4/5 I Used To - 4/5 Change Yr Mind - 3/5 How Do You Sleep? - 5/5 Tonite - 5/5 Call the Police - 4/5 American Dream - 3/5 Emotional Haircut - 3/5 Black Screen - 3/5 Average score: 3.9/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ it's probably considered the weakest of their releases, and it's the album i come back to the least. that being said, it's still a pretty good listen imho. i just don't think most of the tracks hit as hard as their previous work. How Do You Sleep and Tonite are the tracks that stand out among the rest for me, as they're most reminiscent of what i love from the group's other albums. Oh Baby is a decent opening track as well. all tracks after Call the Police are pretty weak i'm afraid i think this just barely earns a 3.5 or 4-star rating in my book

3.75 Finally an LCD Soundsystem album! And it’s…this one? Really? This isn’t the only one on the list, right? No hate - the worst LCD album is better than a lot of band’s best albums, but I’d certainly never think this one is a must listen. This is one of the few albums on this list that I listened to when it came out. I remember the excitement, the hype for the comeback. I played this the morning it came out, liked it, and then basically forgot about it. I tried to approach it this time with open ears, and honestly, it’s very good! Starts super strong, gets a bit meh, then gets really good again about halfway through, and then the end putters out with half an hour of indulgence. But when this is hitting, oh man, it hits like only LCD can. Transcendent stuff! But inconsistent and overlong, unfortunately.

oooooh babbyyyyy u havin a badd dreaammmm herreee in myy aarrmsss

It took me a little time come around to LCD soundsystem but I’m glad I did.

Cool, upbeat disco techno LCD Soundsystem. 4/5

se me hizo un poco largo, pero es buen álbum. No tengo más que decir

How have i never really listene to them. Few trax need to be cut esp the last one but otherwise quite solid and moving. Makes me feel old. Palpable. He ran a restaurant??? FOR!

I'm not sure how this happened, but I'm giving this a 4! I really enjoyed it. It reminded me of a more chilled version of underworld? Awesome, another great find!

This was so much fun to listen to

Surprisingly awesome!

i loved instrumental, it felt nostalgic.it is really good song✨️

really liked it, need to check out more albusm

This was better than I was expecting! I saved "call the police," "american dream," and "black screen." I still cannot in good conscience rate it 5/5 because IT JUST DIDN'T GRAB ME. So, we are rocking with 4/5.

As somebody who is completely in the bag for LCD Soundsystem and has seen them live multiple times, it's a crime that this album is included in this project but not This Is Happening or their debut. 4/5

Pretty good overall. Very 80s vibe. They have a pretty distinctive sound, like a cooler, more 80s version of arcade fire or something.

Take Nine Inch Nails, make it 50% less horny and 30% less angry and you’ve got LCD. Honestly liked it a lot

I had fun with this album and it opened me up to LCD soundsystem. Ill have to hear more!

was pretty surprised by this one. i don't know what i was expecting, but i wasn't expecting a talking heads/bowie-esque electronic album. it's pretty neat and has some really cool moments on it. it's an album i could see myself coming back to in the future.

Great beats, loved the vibe. Vocals weren’t my thing.

si gode però se questo è l'unico album loro nella lista ne avrei scelto un altro onestamente

bello, ma alcune canzoni sono un no x me

il loro miglior album? no ripetitivo? si peak? si

Not at all bad

track 1, 37 seconds in: "wow, it's like if somebody gave okgo allllll the downers" further in, things got a lot more fun - echoes of david byrne, sometimes some older u2...all kindsa fun stuff. in particular, call the police reminds me of this incredible track by reports, called dinamo cambridge: https://reports.bandcamp.com/track/dinamo-cambridge overall: fun!
