Reviews (page 6 of 8)

Great beats, fantastic bass lines. What's not to like? I'll tell you what's not to like. Repetitive lyrics being barked by lady daleks. That's what's not to like. But overall a good album.

A bit bland but good energy

On good times, mutta muut biisit ei yllä Good timesin tasolle. Ei voi olla tykkäämättä noista bassoista. Liian henkäilevä laulu välillä. Toisaalta he näyttivät suuntaa koko tälle tyylille. Discoooo

Soundaa siltä kuin voisi olettaa - ja biisit ovat oletettua parempia, vaikka Good Times ei ylläkään I Want Your Loven tasolle.

Surprisingly enjoyable Standout songs Good times Can't stand to love you

Cool, disco smoothness. Very cool ambience and vibe but not really my genre. Appreciate the musical genius of it and the cool basslines though. Three stars.

Fun, easy listening, nothing that totally blew me away

Good times is really go but everything else is a bit forgettable. Good, consistent, but doesn’t resonate.

Y'know, I'm sure if I heard this album in a 70's dance club—and I mean a legit dance club, too; not something that was built into a strip mall—this woulda gone off for me so much more than it did.

It’s a 3.5 and I wish I could leave it there. This is a really good record that gets dragged down by one thing, and I’d be a hypocrite to call it out on the last album and to not call it out here: it’s the repetition. Instrumental repetition is obviously fine, but lyrically, these songs drag on and on most of the time in a way that just doesn’t click right for me. That’s not to say they’re bad; what’s here is absolutely fabulous and super funky. Super cool basslines, guitar work, and percussion throughout this album, and even the vocals sound great with super good melodies that compliment the instruments. I just feel like this album deeply suffers from the “first minute is the whole song” problem that occasionally rears its ugly head, but I have to reconcile that with stellar production. That’s why I wish I could leave it at a 3.5, because I cannot in good conscience give it a 4 as an album experience. So, uhh… I guess it’s a 3. Dang.

One of many to come disco albums. One of many that showed me I can’t dance!!!

Nice music, but it kind of fades into the background.

Decent disco album

Expected DISCO! Got disco.

good times, sad times, yawn times

Good groove to it. Stats string and then fades of alittle

My first question is SugarHill Gang going to show up or is this the only time we hear the beat in Good Times? This feels like fairly peak disco but that doesn't mean it's perfect music by any stretch. A lot of this sounds pretty decent at moments but keeps going and sounds weirdly uniform for how much variety I'm actually hearing in areas like the bass.

Starts off with an instant classic. Even Finley couldn’t deny the grooviness in that beat she instantly became a disco queen bouncing all over the place. When I heard it I just wanted to spit rap over it. I will say it will be hard not to compare this album to the only other disco group I know… my feet keep dancing may have said the same line more in a song than I’ve ever heard but I loved every minute. Groovy album

I remember Good Times from that hip hop documentary. Black music at the time did not reflect New York and black neighbourhoods in the states during the 70's. Even though segregation was no more, people in the ghetto were far from the good times. Anyways, its interesting to hear this side of black music at its point in history. Interesting how The Message by Granmaster Flash came out 3 years after this and painted a VERY different picture. You can definitely tell these were played in the discos, big long dance breaks for the songs. Imagine getting teleported to a disco in the 70's, would be like another planet. Good Times was made for freestyling. But while the songs have good hooks they definitely overstay their welcome. Obviously these songs were played in disco techs back in the day but it makes just listening in your car a bit tiresom. Especially from some of the albums weve listened to already where the songs are constantly evolving. I really liked the last song What About Me, was a nice unique song to close off the album.

Good times is amazing, but some of the songs are too slow or way too long. Beautiful recording though.

I mean it was okay. I recognized the first song as the one sampled for Rappers Delight. It was pleasant in the background. Did really inspire any strong emotional reaction. 3.5

Sometimes I am surprised by the fact how old some songs already are. Not exactly my style here but it is a good album.

Outside of Good Times the rest is just kinda fine. Peppy but uninspiring for me. 3.5

Solid standard disco. Good baselines. Song writing a vibe a little repetitive.

Disco isn’t quite the genre for me but I do appreciate the impact the genre has had on the sound of most other genres

Except that there are a couple of weak tracks, this album is pretty smokin. I bet the dance scene at a live show on this tour was on fire. I would definitely listen to most of it again and it is thoroughly enjoyable. Disco vibes and great vocals and lyrics.

I got annoyed by this album. Not because it's disco (that didn't help, I just don't like the genre) but because it's just so repetitive. Every song is 5-8 minutes long and they could've been 1:30 and not changed anything except knocking off the last 4 minutes that just repeats what happens in the first two. Good Times is the prime example. It's a good song, but it would've been a great song with some editing. The rest of the album suffers from the same, except the songs aren't as good. Probably a 2, but Good Times is just too good of a song for that, so I'll bump it up to a begrudging 3.

Good disco vibe. Party album. Dancers and make out songs alike.

good 3 stars

"Good Times" is obviously a classic. The rest of the album never gets close to that level, though the bass playing on the album is incredible. 3/5 Might listen again

Good stuff, some repeated beats. Easy going.

Good listening music in the background.

pretty good for disco!

ooohhhh yeah

Svängigt

Funk baby 3.5/5

It's alright over all but what really grabbed me was the amazing bass and guitar playing. Niles baby!

Fairly good disco, but disco itself is a very dated genre that inspired many significantly better, more varied styles in future decades. It was one of the lowlights of the 70s. For what it’s worth, CHIC pulls it off very well, nailing the chill multi-harmony vocals, smooth synths/horns, and tight drum beat. It’s just a little artificial, which is an artifact of the genre rather than any fault of the band. The opening track, Good Times, has that excellent hook, but runs over twice its ideal length. What About Me is another very strong track, the harmonies especially notable here. Otherwise, the album is fairly monotone. Suitable for a soundtrack (or indeed an actual disco), but not for close listening in the modern day.

Good stuff, with an iconic single, but the songs are too long.

It's a vibe, for sure. Do I like Disco? That's probably the question. Can't deny Nile Rodgers' influence, however.

Ah something from the era of music that I do not live. For what it is it is done very well. I'm fairly certain I've heard a bunch of it sampled in other songs over the years. It's not my taste which makes it a 2 but I feel like I need to apply an adjustment because I recognize it's impact on future generations of music that I do enjoy. 3 it is.

Chic definitely has a style that is definitively theirs, but I don’t think it shines here as much as it does in C’est Chic. Some of the songs drag on a lot, but it was an enjoyable listen.

Not as good as the other CHIC album that I recently reviewed. Still fun, but not as many standout tracks on this one.

This was kinda fun. I wouldn't listen to it again but I see the value and it had a couple of good songs.

Fine disco album.

ok, yeah, it's disco... but it kinda slaps

Disco fun

I understand why it’s on this list and I think it has its merits but god I just can’t get into a disco album

First track is rightly named

Now I know.

Enjoyed the basslines.

3.5: 5 stars- Catchy songs, but it’s disco. 3 stars- repetitive songs, but it’s disco.

A couple of obviously massive tunes but turned out to be a bit too sickly sweet for my liking

Good Times My Forbidden Lover

Nicely funky and they bothered to write some lyrics you could learn and sing a long to. Might get it out at a party some time in the future.

Starts out with a banger, then eases into background love-makin’ fodder. Low key disco. Typically long songs to keep you in the dance floor. Low 3

Fun disco

Not bad for disco

Solid disco album. Doesnt do to much for me personally, but I cant deny the musicianship on this album.

Mélange disco-funk avec une touche de jazz. Ouvre avec un grand classique. Néanmoins , reste du disco avec des chansons très répétitives

Disco, baby.

good album, enjoyed the disco sound!

Was a bigger fan on first listen. Short and decently sweet.

"Also, the latter half of the album revolves around themes of heartache, illicit love and betrayal, marking this out as substantially darker and richer than the fluff the name "disco" implies to some." OMG SONGS ABOUT HEARTACHE??? IN DISCO GENRE????

Arguably, Chic didn't need to have two albums on this list. In terms of style and performance, there's not much here that you can't find on their previous album, 'C'est Chic'. It's still nice to hear an occasional feel-good disco album though.

What a trip

Some good groundwork was laid here, but to call this the definition of disco seems disingenuous. 1979 seems a little late to define something that's already been going strong for a decade and is finally starting to fade. Besides, the Bee Gees definitely had their picture next to the entry in the dictionary.

Frábært opnunarlag, góður gítar, glæsilegur bassi, snyrtilegir strengir. Og lög sem, sorrý, fara að utan Good times, inn um annað eyrað og út um hitt.

Good Times is a timeless classic and has been sampled more than I can remember. Lyrics are forgettable, but the production is solid on every song.

disco halt. nit schlecht, aber hörs wsl nimmer

solid disco great bass work

Fun songs, but man are some of them repetitive. Perhaps best for background music. The fact that the album is shorter redeems it slightly.

Good disco for sure, but beyond a couple tracks the rest are sort of just there. Almost a 4.

Dimery s ridiculous ban on greatest hits albums shows up here. I know it’s well received, but outside the singles, there’s nothing here that requires listening. Dancing? Sure. But I’d rather hear a compilation of the hits. I do love the cover. And Niles and Bernard are just *mwah*

I expected to enjoy this more than I did. AMAZING bass playing, but most of the songs had very little else to them and seemed to go on forever with little development or variation. “That’s dance music”, I hear someone cry; if so then my beef is with the whole genre, but I’ve heard plenty that combines extended grooves with greater variation and interest.

If my kids never play another gig, they can always say they were on the bill at a dance festival held at Barrington Tops & headlined by the great Nile Rodgers. This album is more about dancing than listening to. And it achieves the aim of getting them up on their feet. The thing that irritates me with a lot of these tracks is the repetition - how many times can you put up with the same phrase being repeated over & over? (And please, don’t throw Hey Jude at me!) Pity Nile doesn’t give the guitar a workout more often. But it’s a lively listen, nonetheless.

Good times - spank the monkey

A album that made you happy. Lot of nice beats and nice voice of the vocalist.

Disco is not dead.

Ridiculously smooth. Coke-sheened.

A lot of fun, but hard to really get my teeth into it.

So the grooves on the album are funky and the musicianship is tight and silky smooth But for me, it lacks depth and I occasionally found myself waiting for some of the long tracks to finish.

Oh damn, the bassline on Good Times, so good! Shame the rest of the album feels like filler. Though I was happy it had a short runtime.

Super smooth classic disco. The upbeat tracks work a lot better than the slow ones.

Meh really not the best of the best, good times is typically an alright single but 8 minutes is too long for this song, the rest of the album is solid but no real bangers. 3/5

Disco fun fest

Another fun disco album. As far as uses of soul and funk go, this is towards the bottom of the list for me. However, it is still soul and funk nonetheless, which means it's still good. Favorite track: Good Times

Today's album is my first disco album that I've gotten on this generator. CHIC have those disco staples Good Times, and Le Freak. Good Times was actually the first song on this record, so it started on a high note! This was a relatively average album. Nothing too spectacular, and nothing horrible either. One thing I did find was a few songs overstayed their welcome. For example, if Good Times was a few minutes shorter, I would have enjoyed it more. One super solid aspect of the record was the bassist, Bernard Edwards. He is definately putting in work on this one!! The music is super funky with just the right amount of soul. They have the recipe for making music that makes you want to move. Overall, not bad, perfectly average. I listened twice today. Favourite songs: Good Times, My Forbidden Lover Least favourite songs: Can't Stand to Love You 3/5

actually quite enjoyed this! disco for cleaning & boogieing playlist incoming. tap dance solo was unhinged in a bad way tho.

I love disco! but not this album that much. It's ok. It's good. But not something I would put on the speakers or in my headphones. I appreciate the album. The album went from good, to boring, to good.

Musically this album is fantastic. The issue lies in the fact that they lead off with “Good Times” and then struggle to reach those highs again.

Really like Chic. Unfortuntely this album doesn't really reach the highs to warrant a higher rating. Many songs, though very catchy, can get quite long and monotonous as well.

I generally like disco but found this a bit monotonous. Was never really a fan of "Good times" but some of the other tracks were ok. Personal favorite was "My forbidden lover". Hard to rate but since i found it a quite boring although it's only about half an hour in length. Maybe a 3?

It starts off with the jam Good Times and then all the rest is kind of the same song

I gotta say I was kind of disappointed in this album. With such a strong, funky opener like “Good Times”, I was looking forward to this album. The rest of the album was OK, but never quite had the same groove as Good Times.

What can be said about the classic "Good Times" - a staple of any party in the late 70s / early 80s, and still played today. But apart from "My Feet Keep Dancing", the rest of the album is meh.

vibey disco stuuff

Surprisingly not the all in disco album. The 3 singles are very fun and funky but the rest of the album is more "conventional" R&B.

Good times is obviously the stand out track. The rest of the album isn’t as fun or funky but it’s still a good time

Was a short and quick album had a little bit of a feel of the staying alive

Fine. First song is the epitome of roller rink songs. Weak 3

There's no doubt this album had a major influence on hip-hop. Bernard Hopkins bass lines set the tone for the rap scene in the 80s, 90s and beyond. Good Times is a banger. Side two isn't quite as good but this is a decent album overall. Also what a talent Nile Rodgers is.

There are some excellent Disco-era artists don't really get credit they deserve for their music, or its influence on future genres. It gets treated like a novelty, when really, we're still hearing the effects of Disco today in all kinds of music. Chic is among the best, most memorable bands of this era. In a genre that gets a bad rap for being all studio fabrication, Chic was a real band playing real music that Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards wrote and produced themselves. And this particular album was well crafted, both with songs built for the dance floor and some thoughtful ballads that I didn't imagine the band had in them. The sound is distinctive and self consciously aspirational, highly polished funk that embraces the decadence of the times. Some songs on the album are better than others, but the flow from front to back is flawless, and the vocals and musicianship are solid. The star track is obviously "Good Times," which is an era-defining song that is so much fun to listen to and hasn't lost a bit of its fire. Fave Songs: Good Times, What About Me?, A Warm Summer Night, My Feet Keep Dancing

Chic are one of those bands that everyone’s heard of, but only knows that one song. Fortunately, that one song is on this album so I’ll be listening to it today. I’ve never really looked into this hem before so it’ll be interesting to see if their other tracks are similar. Songs I already knew: Good Times Favourites: Good Times Firstly, I’m a bit later than usual with this because I had an exam this morning. Forgive me! Anyway, this album was pretty good but Good Times is a clear standout when compared to the rest. I would frequently find myself singing Rapper’s Delight instead of the actual lyrics, but that familiarity from the sampling definitely makes it more fun. The rest of the album is similar in bits, but just less effective. Overall, I enjoyed this album, but I’m not sure I’ll be listening again. I’ll stick with Rapper’s Delight.

4 for Good Times, 2 for everything else.

Bass is great. Good Times is a fun classic. Otherwise mostly whatever, but not bad at all.

Same conclusions as for the other Chic album we've had: not at all unpleasant in the background, but also not interesting. The music just sounds extremely dated and I don't see any reason to listen to it other than for understanding historical context.

диско по все поля (это не мой жанр)

Killer bassline on Good Times. Love the tap dance on My Feet Keep Dancing. Besides the grooves, the backing synths, piano and strings just give the album a nice lush urban feel, which completes the style of the album. Things are repetitive here, but come on, how can you dance to a 3 min track? You couldn’t repeat a single song back then:) (Note for myself. I’m changing my rating system a bit to avoid giving everything a 4.🔥👄🔥

Great disco album

Disco still sucks BUT that guitar on Good Times, and really through out the whole album, is awesome. Wicky Ticky Ticky Ticky

Some good moments and not just because of Good Times. This is good disco but was it really necessary to put two of their albums in here?

Those bass lines tho.

Nothing outstanding for the genre. The other album include was better.

It's difficult to understand that there is two Chic albums on this list. It's good, but average stuff that no one really cares about right now. I think? Anyway.

23.04.23. Альбом оказался несколько качественнее, чем я предполагал. Добротная афро-американская поп-музыка. Классика диско.

Decent 6/10

Это дискотека века

Not bad. Groovy background disco other than Good times.

Groovy, men det klikket ikke helt for meg. Plutselig tenkte jeg "Wow, denne sangen var bra!", men så viste det seg at Spotify hadde gått videre til foreslåtte sanger etter at albumet var ferdig.

Liked the vibe, good funk but the songs just dragged on for too long and lost their focus

Two good songs, the rest was boring. It's a small album, though, so I didn't feel like I wasted my time.

It was disco

Another brief one but the songs dragged on too long for my tastes. I feel like if they'd all been trimmed a little and another track or two added it'd have been a straight up 4 stars for me. Funky and well performed but bloated, what a shame.

Just a really good album to jam and chill to. 1. Good Times 2. My Forbidden Lover 3. A Warm Summer Night

Nice way to start a Friday. Few classics in here and it’s all feel good

Mostly really good.

Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: Yeah very fresh and textbook funk Favourite song: Track 1 - Good Times

Very catchy & danceable music! Wouldn’t turn it on normally, but it was a fun listen for this project.

Meh, I'll appreciate it for what it is, but probably not coming back to this one.

Теперь еще меньше уважаю рэперов- воооот откуда они все надергали!!! Прям растеребоньканный на семплы альбом Приятнейше, талантливо Диско как оно есь Супер груви

The absolute pioneers of the groove and I'm a sucker for a good bassline. And this is about the best of them you can get. The basis of the music is of course Edwards' really fantastic bass and Rodgers' signature guitar playing. The strings and the vocals on Risqué are really great as well and add to the general funk, atmosphere and groove. And it's no wonder this is a classic and one of the most sampled albums I know of. Still. All songs feel about twice as long as they should be. It's made for dancing, but with only 7 songs on the album the long ended repetitions feel contrived. And that puts a little damper on the party for me.

Groovy funky party party

Enjoyed it, but not in a rush to listen again.

It's a vibe. Not my typical one but it's hard to deny that this CHIC record draws you right in with the Good Times and mostly delivers on that manifesto.

Favourite song: Good Times

I must admit that in a former life I spent many hours in an open-necked shirt, platform shoes, and bell bottomed pants. I have done the Hustle, and it weren't for the cheap, easily accessible, recreational drugs and promiscuous, unprotected sex, I would have to say it was a hollow waste of time that can only be described as a guilty pleasure. Just like this album.

97 / 1069 Funny Disco

The songs are basically long loops of a short chord progression with lots of subtle changes in the arrangement. It's played well. The songs are the right length for dancing, but very long for listening (only one song under 4 minutes). Favorite song: Good Times.

I won't deny that this is an essential disco album, and it feels like it was one that helped define the genre. Despite the great grooves, every song is incredibly repetitive and overstays it's welcome by a lot. 3/5.

Was all on board when the first track started, then it just kept going and going. similar to the other tracks. All start well with a strong idea and then kind of just tread water for 6 -8 minutes. Gets better when the songs are shorter. Seems custom built to take samples from so easy to see how much it's influenced hip hop

Not bad at all, quite disco

I was never particularly into Disco in its heyday. Subsequently, the floor-fillers have permeated into my bloodstream and I appreciate them for what they are. I understand how songs like ’Good Times’ are ubiquitous at birthdays and weddings because they are infectious and get people up dancing. That’s why they’re also six or eight minutes long to keep those people dancing to a beat and not have to change the record as often. Nile Rogers is an institution. He has improved with age and is revered almost everywhere. However it doesn’t make this album less boring. The first and last tracks do have a funky beat and are fun and encourage you to boogie. But the others just seemed to go on and on. Solid - but I stand by my ambivalence to most ‘Disco’ albums. It would be 2.5 but I’ll give it a 3 for the longevity of Good Times.

Good Times! Bernard Edwards is the bass player to know if want to play dance music. The song Good Times is a great song to get into the groove. I grew up listening to the C'est Chic album so Disco music has a place in my heart. I love the hits from this album but the deep cuts don't do too much for me. Like Culture Club, I'd prefer to have a Best of Album rather than the individual studio albums. This probably a condition of the industry pumping out album after album even if it's not all the artist's best work. I'm between 3 and 4 stars.

Very dated. Still good, but not nearly as good as it was back in the day... 3.5

It's Chic. It's Disco. That's it. Best Tracks: Good Times; My Forbidden Lover; Can't Stand to Love You;

It is a quick album at only 36ish mins with 7 tracks. The Opener Good Times is some great disco, the production great and would go on to be sampled by Queen for Another One Bites The Dust. The vocals are a highlight of this song as well. The only flaw with this song is that it is too long and loses momentum towards the end as there isn't enough evaluation in the vocals and feels a little repetitive. Out of 7 songs, 3 are over 5 mins and those other songs could also be shorter. My other issue with the album is the vocals on the less disco songs did not have the presence to match the production. The vocals are never bad but get carried by the production on the pure disco songs. The vocals on disco songs are great and match the energy of the production. The production on this album is the highlight and why I would come back to the album. 6.5/10 Fav: Good Times Least Fav: Can't Stand To Love You

Some good songs, but not really my style. Nile Rogers is a great bass player though.

No clue this was the band. Listened my first day at golds and it was nice

Popular music owes a lot to disco, especially this album. So I guess it deserves the respect that it gets now. As a listen though, it's quite overlong and repetitive. Of course that's understandable if my guess that the practice of making lengthier pop songs began here. The story goes that disco DJ's find it hard to quickly switch discs since songs usually ends after 2-3 minutes. They need more time to find the next songs' discs. So the songs need to be longer. And how can a 3 minute song transform into a still danceable 6 minute whopper? By repeating the hook over and over again of course. It's hard to think that such a generic disco album is so revolutionary, but it is. Packed with irresistible grooves and carefree atmosphere, it's still an enjoyable listen and a quintessential disco album.

A staple of disco and probably the finest showing of Nile Rodgers on guitar and Bernard Edwards on bass. Songs are tight, groovy, and fun. Eagle-earned listeners will recognize the opening track Good Times as it was interpolated in the Sugarhill Gang's iconic Rapper's Delight. By all accounts, we can credit this song for the birth of hip-hop as we know it. Side A takes a chance on longer disco tracks, which I can appreciate seeing how the genre was conventionally used for spinning songs at dance clubs. This does, however, lead to some of Risque's most interesting parts. Bernard Edwards, for example, will use an instrumental break to bust out a small bass solo that blows me away each time. That man could work his way around the neck, it's incredible. This is probably the best of Disco, which is good! There are some tracks on here that hold the whole thing back (slow songs and disco are not a good match), but it's worthy of praise regardless for it's progressive, fun, and talented sound.

Decent album, but not very memorable or interesting beyond Good Times

This is some fantastic funk. A good piece that’ll hav you dancing from top to bottom. Overall good stuff that I could see myself enjoying again even if it doesn’t fit my typical fair

Good Times is omnipresent but it's never been my favourite (gimme Everybody Dance any day of the week). Like the other Chic album, it's pretty hit and miss, and a few tracks are unnecessarily long. My Forbidden Lover and What About Me got me bopping though. 2.5

À part la 1ere chanson que tout le monde connait, pas si exceptionnel comme album. On dirait que les paroles sont toujours les mêmes.

Disco is another genre I am very unfamiliar with outside of what you just get from cultural osmosis. I'm quite enjoying this though. It's upbeat and danceable (the best parts about disco music) without being overly corny like a lot of it is.

Not bad, but nothing amazing. I enjoyed some songs more than others, but I probably wouldn't revisit it. 3.25/5

ok for background but kinda boring

ooh disco yasss. 3? definite 3. overplayed and dated, but i love the album cover.

Funky, yet bland. And very repetitive.

Passade inte vibeserna när jag lyssnade men helt roligt ändå

De va good times :)

Fine music, nothing special.

Fun and funky. I'd heard a couple of these before, including the lead track. An enjoyable easy listen.

It's not bad, give good vibes but I wouldn't listen to it again

I don't hate disco. Really. But I can understand the hatred. Particularly when songs are repetitive and go on WAY too long. But I mean, if you're out on the dance floor, all coked up and having a good time, an 8 minute song (like the first one) will seem like 30 seconds. So yeah, those first three songs went on WAY too long. I can imagine the single edits were more enjoyable. And "My Forbidden Lover," even clocking in at 4 and a half minutes could be cut down to a good three and I wouldn't mind. But maybe listening to it actively and not actually out on the dance floor was the problem. The time for the song would probably have gone zipping by if you were out there dancing the night away. But trust me, you don't want me out there doing THAT... Nile Rodgers did a lot of great work on this, "Will You Cry (When You Hear This Song)" was devastating. But the album versions of the hits are way too long and overstay their welcome for me. It's like getting a huge banana split when all you wanted was a small dish of ice cream. Too, too much.

Really, CHIC gets another album on this list? Meh. Second verse, same as the first. It is probably one of the finest disco albums you'll hear, but it's still disco. Great funk, great bass lines, upbeat tempo and lyrics but it's still just the same beat and simple message over and over. Did Good Times (a classic) really need to be 8 minutes? Thankfully the lesser songs on the back half of the album were shorter. Admirable but not really anything more than average in my opinion.

Decent

pretty good cool disco vibes a little repetitive but thats the point i guess

If disco sucks, then why can’t I stop groovin’?

Chic gets a 3, really nice in places but not enough.

Good Times is such an iconic dance/disco/funk song; if the rest of the album were as good, it would be phenomenal. But, alas, it isn't. The other songs are just OK, without anything really standing out. So between them and Good Times, it's 3/5.

gñalll

wow, Good Times!

Good comfort music

Much like the entire genre of Disco, it felt fun at first with fun basslines, riffs, and hooks...and then wore out the fun through repetition.

3.5 Really classic, but dated.

I get it Chic. My feet keep dancing too. You can hear where so many others came from.

Prefs: Good Times, My Feet Keep Dancing, My Forbidden Lover Moins pref: Can't Stand To Love You

Quite good but a bit repetitive. It's dance music, not made for listening to.

Best Song: Good Times. A social classic, that if nothing else gets people making goofy disco dance moves. Worst Song: My Feet Keep Dancing. The entire 6:30 song sounded like an outro. Overall: A very repetitive disco album that always feels like it's building up towards something that never comes. It's pleasant as sort of groovy background music, but that's about it.

Fun dancing music

Holy moly macaroni I know them from somewhere. First song on 2018 remastered version is "Good Times". It's hard not to boogie around during this BANGER. Extended version is enough as background music, you just have to pay attention to something else because otherwise you can have a hard time or just skip to next song. CHIC when it comes to instruments and rhythm is monotonous which for somebody can come as dull. You either like it or not. "My Forbidden Lover" is the best track.

Loving making album

Only 7 tracks but they're long, overall decent disco. "Good Times" fun but repetitive, "Warm Summer Night" namesake, sensual R&B,

Yeah It was OK.

I knew most of these songs and I think they're quite amusing. They are quite repetitive and streched out though. I don't think I'd listen to this again as an album.

Overall nice album. A bit repetitive with the lyrics but it made me feel relaxed and upbeat all at once.

1 minute into these songs: fuck yeah 4 minutes into these songs: ok I get it

I like to funk just as much as the next person, and this does sound highly influential this songs are loooooong.

I can appreaciate good music, but this kinda stuff just isnt really the thing for me. good tho

Bit disappointing actually, bit too slow to feel like disco bangers. Still funky though.

Funktastic.

Some fun disco, I’m just not in the mood for disco often

Pretty good, if a little repetitive and lacking in variation. Then again, perhaps that's the point of funk. I'd give it a 6/10, maybe a 7. Good Times is the highlight by far.

Listened to on 5/22/22 3.5/5 Favorite song: good times This album was super upbeat, jazzy, fun, and entertaining - I really thought about giving it a 4 but the songs were super repetitive

Solid disco background music. Favorite song was Good Times.

This feels like the quintessential disco album to me. I like some of the grooves on here, but some songs are a bit repetitious. 3 stars.

It's not terrible.

I was kinda bummed to see another CHIC album. Don't get me wrong - it's great disco, but all the songs are same-y

A bridge to post-disco per Simon Reynolds. Influenced Duran Duran among others.

When I first started listening, I thought, Ok...one good song. But, as the day went on I really started enjoying it more. 1979 is right when I was first getting into music, but I was never a Chic fan, so It took this long for me to finally hear it. I can definitely see this being a very hot album in 1979. Standouts: Good Times. Best of the Rest: The other six songs on the album. 3.5/5

First song is an absolute banger, worth checking out if for nothing but that

Interesting work. I never imagined that disco progressive was a thing before this record.

I liked parts of this, and I can definitely see why the bass from the album was sampled so frequently in early hip-hop, but ultimately I found it a bit dull. Also, I did not know that Good Times was 8 fucking minutes long. Perfect for the dance floor, but a bit strange for a single. Worth a listen, but not an album that I plan on coming back to 3/5

Good times is a great song but the rest was nothing that was memorable. I do like several of their hits but non were on this 💿: Le Freak, I Want your love…. Great dancing 💃 🕺 music

real soulful but all the songs go on for a while

21st March 2022 Listened in the late morning while working from home in the front room. First day of juice cleanse. I preferred C’est Chic and Good Times is the clear stand out track.

I saw a woman get born today. It was fascinating. Burst right out of that thing.

Great 70s disco vibes

Cool but repetitive.

I enjoyed it! That first song is sampled so much. Groovy, but probably won't return to it.

Opens up with an all-time banger - I'm in the minority in that I actually with that "Good Times" was longer than 8 minutes - and then just stumbles around through the end. As an unabashed Nile Rodgers and Chic fan, this was a major disappointment. But Good Times alone merits the album's inclusion here.

Is decent. Kinda repetitive

Absolutely wonderful way to end the week. Back when I was alive these were the music track in my college existence.

Genre: Disco 3/5 Chic’s Risqué, while home to one of disco’s greatest hits, Good Times, is unfortunately just a run-of-the-mill disco/pop album, but fortunately that means it’s pretty decent. A few slow, a few speedy, but with that sore thumb of an opener that leaves everything in its wake sounding like so much less. Nile Rodgers’ playing on this is essential to the genre, and his technique would be utilized (as well as stolen) by many different artists and producers throughout the 80s. Nile isn’t able to save the weaker cuts on this project, though, but it certainly bolsters the stronger ones.

Fun, Mostly party songs.

like,, it's fine, you know??? but.. i just can't listen to an entire disco album on a row. unless it's saturday night fever. or the bee gees. like.. it just bores me. i'm sorry.

Baseline on good times amazing

I can not recall ever listening to a disco album in its entirety, so this was a first. I’ve heard this group referred to as disco and disco funk; in my opinoon this was more disco funk. In any case it was good but I felt it was repetitive. It didn’t wow me but it wasn’t bad either. I would add elements to my overall playlist but not a weekly rotation.

p434, 1979, 3 stars Classic dance album, fabulous production. Play and recreate nightclubs in 1978-79. Suffers from the "extended dance version" syndrome. Still sounds good, have to be in the right mood it though :)

5 stars for the Good Times bassline alone. Never gets old. Rest of album is pretty wishy-washy disco/70s but listenable.

Aquí empezó la música disco, aquí esta "Good Times". Nada más que añadir para considerar que hay que escuchar este disco.

Jaime bien, c’est disco et je necoute pas souvent ca mais parfait pour un dimanche a la maison et menage. 3.5

The third Chic album; the third best Chic album. The high spots are the singles, but overall the album doesn't have the consistency of the first two.

Nice classic disco vibes with a little bit of funkiness!

I knew that I must know something from this band, and the first track on the album is the track. "Good Times" is the one track that I might play again. It was good to hear a full album from CHIC. They are talented and the album is solid. "Will You Cry (When You Hear This Song)" was the one track that I would be tempted to skip on a re-listen. To me, the track sounded to sugary sweet. The album is good, but isn't a match for my music tastes. One listen might be enough for me.

Can't Stand to Love You was the highlight for me (and all too short), with the instruments swooping in and out of the mix with the melodic line. The rest of the tunes were nicely drawn out but less memorable as tunes.

I’ve listening to this one a few times and it’s probably one of the easiest listening albums. I prefer it to the other chic album partially since there is less French. This album groves and is fun to listen to. 7.2/10

dejlig fin

3/5 nice, but not enough

Glamorous and smooth. Easy listening but watered down and overall not very creative.

Doing whatever it takes to keep the song going and loneliness at bay. Every so often their nemesis comes into view. Hearing them give it the slip is a thrill.

More variety than I thought there'd be from only knowing their big singles. Nice groove, good background work music. Fav new track: Will You Cry (When You Hear This Song)

Some classic disco sounds and of course Good Times

Bass guitar is superlative here, "A warm summer night" reminds me a lot the modern R&B wave such as Silk Sonic. Well mixed, sound is very organic. However, I'm not a disco lover, so I didn't enjoyed it very much, can't give less than 3 tho

Good Times is still great - the rest... pleasant enough

Short but sweet, from arguably the masters of disco. My Feet Keep Dancing is a stand-out imo, but the entire album is pretty good.

Opens with a banger, "Good Times". "My Feet Keep on Dancing" has a fun tap dancing breakdown that I didn't expect. Overall an easy listen that isn't overly exciting but nowhere near bad music.

Not bad but not something I want to listen to all of/regularly

Groovy but very repetitive

Super Funky fresh

Level of funk took it well above the usual disco crap

Come for the Good Times, stay for a bit for the other tracks that are nice background music but aren’t particularly groundbreaking.

This is really good music, almost a 4, but damn it's repetitive. Favorite track is Good Times, obviously

Some nice disco, I prefer it to the previous Chic album

Men även de lugnare låtarna, främst Will You Cry (When You Hear This Song), är vackra. 3/5, vilket för mig är väldigt högt för ett discoalbum! Bästa låt: Good Times

I respect their influence on disco, whatever that may be worth, as well as having an instantly recognizable sound, being a commodity for disco, I found the album to drag on despite its short runtime, and to provide nothing special or truly memorable.

Decent disco album that unfortunately got old quite fast though due to very similar sounding songs

All round, better album than Cest Chic but the songs often go for a bit too long.

not sure i've ever listened to a disco album. fun, but just ok-ish.

Funky, with some nice grooves. Not necessarily for me, though.

Started off with a great song and the. The rest of the album I felt was average

Not bad music, but not my cup of tea. Some great basslines though

Oh wow, absolutely NOT my thing. It is well crafted though.

yea this is good

Very disco. I’ve realized disco is a bit like jazz minus the solos, once they find a good groove they stay there. No standout songs but a respectable listen

Pretty interesting, was good

Funky. Catchy tunes.

Easy listening, was bobbing my head along a good few times, good background music but I probably wouldn't listen to it if I wasn't doing something else alongside it

Fun disco tracks with some awesome bass lines, but might not be anything that really sticks with me. Still fun to throw on and groove out to

WOW! 3 songs longer than 6 minutes! I'm sure that won't be annoying!

These are the good times? I’d hate to see what the bad times are like

It was fine

Classic disco album- 7 songs, not too long. I probably wouldn't listen to this in my spare time but turn it on at a party and I'm on the dance floor.

Ziemlich cool

CHIC knows how to put together a groove. Some of the songs lost steam for me, but I had my fair share of highlights. Favorite song: good times

Fun! Lots of songs felt familiar as someone who has listened to lots of Daft Punk over the years.

Chic has always been a singles band, producing dance-floor ready disco that can light up our worlds. So it's a little difficult to rate this record on the whole, as there are a few stellar tracks here, but the later half of the record feels inconsequential and made me want to pick out the best tracks and save them to a dance playlist. Will You Hear Me Cry and A Warm Summer Night don't really hold up. Fav tracks: Good Times and My Forbidden Lover

Good stuff, not blowing my mind but a fun time.

Mustaa diskojytää, hittibiisi oli laitettu heti levyn kärkeen ja sen jälkeen tasaantui. Ihan okei, ei mitään vikaa tässä.

First up, That is a top top album cover. Everyone who has working hearing will instantly know the first track. Its an all time classic tune and worth a couple of stars by itself. But what of the other 7 songs (can it really be classed as an album with just 7, granted quite long samey disco tracks?). Its obviously very influential and impossible not to tap your feet to but what i'm hearing is good times + lots of less good versions of good times. There is also the fucking awful Will you cry which led to me reaching for the skip button. Music to dance to but like most dance music it lacks any sort of depth. 1 point for the cover and 2 points for Good Times. 3/5

enjoyed

funky but sounds dated

Not a disco fan

Disco-funk songs are excellent with smooth bass runs - but their slow stuff is uninspired

Repetitive, but it was fine

Smooth tunes and bass lines

Some late 70s funky R&B with some stellar bass. I think this record is up there with 70s funk which, although it is not my favorite, is a respectable period in music. Don’t have a lot else to say about this one. Favorite track: Good Times Least favorite track: A Warm Summer Night

Disco! Deu vontade de dançar igual o Travolta. Infelizmente as musicas são repetitivas e longas.

Enjoyable. A bop, but nothing too outstanding. Could probably use it for doing homework.

Good times is excellenté but the rest wasn't at the same calibre.

Great baselines. Album starts out strong but songs later on seem a bit generic. All in all a great album would give 3.5

Good Times a fucking banger and a classic! Cool and funky, nice and consice. Loved some of the songs on this. Probably won't revisit but I like this kind of music. Fav dong Good Times, 6/8.
