Komplett unterschiedliche Songs in einem Album.
Like LCD Soundsystem with more Lou Reed
Weird to see this band put a phish cover on their album
Some good songs on here but it is quite a mediocre album overall. The production is so flat, it’s miserable to listen to something so lacking in dynamics. It has a very late noughties sound
This was okay. I like Wolf Like Me from another album more than any of these tracks.
Instrumentally it was good for the most part. I felt the opposite about the vocals.
Nice album
- Chord progressions feel nice in some of the songs. - Love when he goes into the falsetto. - Got bored halfway through. It seemed to be lacking in energy and there weren't any hooks or anything to catch my attention. - Production is pretty good for 2008. Has a timeless sound for what they were trying to do in my opinion. - DLZ is a sick song.
Interesting mix of vocal rhythms, loops, guitars and keys make for an unusual album that is hard to pigeonhole and it's much broader than their indie rock label. Takes a few listens to appreciate which perhaps isn't a good sign but it is worth the effort. Halfway Home, Dancing Choose and DLZ stood out for me 3/5.
One of the canonical albums of this decade of indie rock, but I think I wasn’t really paying attention when it hit, so it kind of passed me by. This is uptempo and driving, with the synth playing a dominant role and the bass delivering a kicking beat. It’s hard to pick out what the guitar is doing as it kind of disappears into the richly textural and layered sound - like Animal Collective but more structured and funky. A masterful studio production with lots of elements coming together in every section. The songs don’t linger in one place too long, peaking into big lush choruses transitioning into contemplative instrumental breaks, verses coming and going. It risks veering into the irritating prog zone, but stays safely away in the end.
Favorite Track: Lover’s Day
There were some great moments on here (I liked Crying and Red Dress very much), but there is also some annoying stuff in here. I also don’t know what to think of the singer’s voice.
Disco correcto. 6/10->3/5
Forgettable
Fun and original. Diverse range of instrumentals and unique sounds. Not overly compelling but still cool.
Some great tunes and a hint of Arcade Fire here and there. Kind of remember the album when it came out and enjoying it.
Definitely fine! Pretty easy listening and certainly sounds of its time
Some interesting songs and good vibes on the record. Too long and a little bit bloated. 6/10
Partly very nice, partly very average
I’d never heard on TV On The Radio before. I enjoyed my listen, but it wasn’t an absolute fave for me. I think without the nostalgia it didn’t stand out. Musically I’m not totally sure why this one made it to this list, but I was glad to have my music horizons expanded!
Hadn’t heard of them before. Enjoyed the listen, definitely felt the 2000’s vibes. Also didn’t stand particularly stand out to me, don’t think I’d go back to it
My only experience with this band and album is the excellent use of DLZ in Breaking Bad as Walter tells the methheads to stay out of his territory. The rest of Dear Science is pretty good too. It's got a thick but pleasant atmosphere that's sort of hard to pin down: is it optimistic? Pessimistic? Cynical? Sardonic? Somehow the band manages to tread the line between all of these. There's a mildly embarrassing 'sah random XD' vibe that rears its head on this occassionally but nothing we havent seen before out of an alt rock band of this time - I'm thinking of Dancing Choose. But the music is so tight, some lyrical missteps are easy to ignore: eg Love Dog sounds like it might only a few rungs above Phoebe's smelly cat song from Friends, but it still works when couched in the moody palette the band is working with here. I'd give it a high 3 but this is one I wish I had the time to spin more than twice.
This is the kind of album that probably would have become my entire personality over one summer holidays at uni. It’s fun, energetic, confident, and just really kind of cool. I especially enjoy the way a lot of these tracks build, starting off slowly and culminating in a crashing crescendo with some tight instrumental arrangements. The sound is very much, ‘of the time’. 2000’s indie rock was really hitting its stride at the time of release with bands like Bloc Party, the National, and Interpol all bringing similar energy to their music making. A great album with only a few standouts that I’d come back to. But as a complete package, this is a fine record. ✨
Pretty middle of the road really, nothing stood out, nothing excited me, it all blended together into a dull mix.
Bra. Första låten toppen. Resten lagom mediokert.
fine background music not like special really so far but i do kinda listen to it rather than entirely forgetting about it so it's not entirely boring feels like something that'd be on at a club 3
Better than expected
Did not like the production. Felt almost ambient.
This wasn't terrible but something about it just didn't click with me.
Enjoyed this unique diverse album (can hear influences from so many styles). Good, not great....I like the band.
Fine, but completely inconsequential. 2.5
Good Album for first suggestion
There’s a twitchy energy to it, and the mix of styles between funk, rock, electro, and soul is tight. Not bad, not boring, just... not enough. I think I respect it more than I enjoyed it. Spins: 2 Playlist Additions: - Halfway Home - Golden Age - DLZ
3 - good album nothing ground breaking
Decent
Slightly generic indie rock, some tracks were interesting
Listenable.
Solid album but insane to have to follow up 'return to cookie mountain'. DLZ as good as those tracks though. I think I would dissolve whatever band I was on immediately once we did something good and then make a new band.
I was familiar with the song Wolf Like Me, which is a banger, as well as Happy Idiot. Back end of the album was a bit uneven, but overall I enjoyed it.
Listened to this four times over a couple weeks before settling on a 3. I was familiar with the album from my junior-high listening days, and a couple tracks stuck with me, but it mostly felt like a new experience. The shock I experienced — please do not cancel me — to learn that the lead singer is Black was only topped by the shock I experienced a few days later to learn that the singer for Bloc Party is also Black, which really makes me, uh, confront the image I had in my head of those bands as two of the whitest indie acts of the 2000s. Lover's Day and Halfway Home are incredible bookends, the former rivaling the greatest outbursts from Broken Social Scene. DLZ, obviously, is eternal.
I first heard this music in 2010 and listening again in 2025, the album feels less essential. That being said it's clear that there is a unified vision start to finish and in many moments i love the balance between electronic exploration and the horns. I just wish there were more songs as strong as DLZ. Its a 3.5.
first listen i do not think this is very good
Nice music! But why is it on this list?
I am not sure this belongs to the list, maybe as a stand-in for other such records? Don't get me wrong, this is a mighty fine record, cool songs, good voices, terrific production. But it still feels generic, like a patchwork of things all known, a little bit rearranged and freshly combined. R&B meets Rock, meets Pop, meets Electronica meets Ambient. I love it, but still somehow it feels wrong on the list.
This is a band I’ve always liked but wanted to like more, but honestly, I can’t get there. Idk what it is - I feel like some of their choices are weird, or all their music is a joke that I’m not totally getting. Like, why is there a six minute song that is sung in French? They’re very much hipsters. And maybe I’m not cool enough to connect to it.
Good album not great, cookie mtn is dope 3.5
Golden Age and Family Tree stand out on this album. The rest feels like background music to me.
need to relisten but a pleasant affair
Had heard the song DLZ before and like it, the album as a whole was pretty solid. Interesting blending and had a creative feel. 6/10
This was decent, finished stronger than it started. 3.5/5
TVOTR has always one of the bands that I’ve never really been dying to see live, or even put on one of their albums. I like the occasional track when it comes on, but was hoping to get into this full length a bit more. Just ok for me
I enjoy these guys but think I prefer some of their other albums. Quality listen but nit a stand out for me.
Enjoyed this
I can clearly hear some influences but i dont think this is a good mix. Its okay for background listening. Low 3
Pretty good.
kinda fun, their popular music seems buns though
Reflections on about 1/3 of the way through - I'm trying to find music I enjoy. This was good, but it's a critical darling, but not something I would put on and enjoy over and over again. WHERE ARE THOSE ALBUMS?
Listenable album from a bad that I know is very popular in some circles. That said, I really didn’t see what was so special about this that caused it to be on the list. 3⭐️
Actually a rather enjoyable album. Kind of a chill indie rock record that I could listen to again. 3.5/5
Won't you come out to play? We're ending a lot of multi-album artist sagas lately. Last ABBA album. Last Nirvana album (I don't think the yet-to-be-listened-to live album counts). Last Black Sabbath album and now the last TV on the Radio album. I don't recall much of Blood-Thirsty Babes. I remember it being very vocals-focused, which was damning to me as I didn't like the style of the singer. Will Dear Science (greet the brand new day) do much to assuage my doubts of this band? NnnnnNNNNNNNnnnnnn-Yes, actually! There's a surprising level of ambition to Dear Science (open up your eyes). The songs are intricate, layered and feature a wide array of instruments/electronic tones. "Shout Me Out" is a good example of this. It's constantly building on itself and is carried towards a great climax thanks to some pretty good songwriting. "Family Tree" is also good, but in a more subdued, sentimental sense. The string section at the end was particularly sublime, though I also liked the quieter, more emotional vocals. Despite being strong overall, the ambition of this album can be a double-edged sword. "DLZ" is a good example of a song where I thought too much was going on, making it difficult for me to a get a hold on whether I liked it. Other songs were completely dead on arrival due to lacking instruments that I cared for - most notably "Lover's Day", which I thought was a bit of a cacophonous mess. I'm currently undecided on Tunde's vocals. They're better than I remember them being, though there are only a handful of performances that inspire me. The same can be said about the album itself, really. It's about as much of a hit as it is a miss. Granted, the songs that do hit manage to land quite well and all I need to come around to a full album is one song that I like. I'll see how I feel about a relisten later down the line. For the time being, I am satisfied.
Seemed pretty good
"Let's dance, but not in a way that makes it seem like you like to dance" music
3.5
Decent indie rock, most mid, some good highlights
Está bstante bien. 3.5
måske generøst at give den her 3, for at være et fedt nok indiealbum fra 00'erne giver imo ikke eksistensberettelse på den her liste
Just a solid indie rock album with a lot of culture, would listen again
This is a clean, diverse album that can sound like Prince, Bon Iver, REM, or The Beach Boys when it wants to. It is definitely firmly situated among late 2000s indie-pop, but it holds up pretty well. “Crying” and “Red Dress” are standout tracks for me. Ps: I can’t ignore the cool fact that “DLZ” was used in Breaking Bad during the “stay out of my territory scene”. That was epic.
3.8
I'm a fan of Return to Cookie Mountain and I was hoping for so much more from this but its just not there? It has its moments but it just largely falls flat and is just adequate to good Best Song: DLZ Rating: 6.0/10 3 Stars
Interesting. I don’t know that I will be seeking them out, but I would listen to them some more.
I’d only heard the one big hit they had which looks like it was prior to this album. That hit I really like! This album felt a bit long as a total, some enjoyable tracks but nothing that really stuck in my head.
Some songs are great and some are awful
I didn't dislike this but I'm a bit torn on why it's here. I can hear some strong influences but that tells me why those artists are on here more than this album. Not a waste of time to hear and some cool direction but I don't think this is mandatory as the things it was built on. Shout Me Out got pretty interesting in the second half.
Gud, a lot of viu viu
Varied soundscape makes this enjoyable but not super compelling.
The second half of the album was stronger than the first. I like the idea of what they were doing, but not necessarily the execution.
01) Halfway Home - 7,5 02) Crying - 7,0 03) Dancing Choose - 7,5 04) Stork & Owl - 7,0 05) Golden Age - 7,5 06) Family Tree - 7,5 07) Red Dress - 7,0 08) Love Dog - 7,0 09) Shout Me Out - 7,5 10) DLZ - 7,5 11) Lover's Day - 7,0 TOTAL: 7,27 (73/100) Curent ranking: 248/448
Like some stuff i've heard from them, nothing too special on this album though.
норм
It was pretty good. Just wasn't overly special for me.
Muito legal essa banda! Vou ouvir mais! Indie eletronic
Not really for me, I admit, but I won't write off as a terrible album or anything. It's certainly interesting and has a lot of soul. Lots of references to varying artists and genres. I'll give it a steady 3 because it's better than some other stuff I've listened to lately, but I'm unlikely to listen again.
Kind of fun, though it was more confusing than anything else. I kept trying to grab onto the vibe of the album, but I left empty-handed. Fav song: Love Dog
Morning mid 00s rock.
I liked Family Tree, the rest of it was fine, but not really memorable.
I mostly enjoyed this. Parts were a little too effects driven and overproduced for me. Interesting to hear “Golden Age” not as a cover. Overall a good album. 3/5 Might listen again
DNL
Not my favorite TVOTR album but still a fun listen.
This album kept going up and down each track. I’d find a song pretty decent, then I’d be meh on the next one, and that cycle kept repeating. Overall this album felt skippable and definitely is a waste of a spot on this list.
Pretty good, I'd have given it a 4 in the beginning but it became more and more mellow.
It's not a bad album, even I'd say it's a bit appealing, but I haven't felt hooked once, nor do I have any idea what the album is about. This is a 3, could've been a weak 4, but then, similar albums have grown on me massively. It feels emotional, but in a hollow manner to me. And then as I finish this review, the longer it goes on, the more I'm happy the album finally concludes. Too same-ish.
Very easy listening.
This new-to-me band/album surprised me. It began slowly for me but picked up steam as it progressed. By the second run through I was a fan.
Enjoyed, will listen again
I feel like I will like this more when I'm 40 years old. It was an interesting listen tho.
This was fine. 3.4.
Not bad. Not good. Just kinda meh.
This was ok. Kinda liked the vibe when it started, but nothing really grabbed me and it felt largely forgettable.
Never heard of this band. Don’t feel I’ve missed out on any way. Some interesting production but generally a bit bland and poppy for my taste.
First track was OK, but it wrnt downhill after that. Not bad, just not good either. As usual with this list, it's just 'meh'.
Some tracks I really enjoyed but the album as a whole didn't engage me, was pleasant listening though
Never heard of this band before so I'm assuming they didn't make it in the UK. It was ok, but by the end of the album his high pitched whiny voice hot on my nerves. However, this could grow on me if I played it more
I have never been a fan of TV on the Radio. However, I don't think I've ever heard anything from this album. I do still think they are very overrated, and I still don't like their early stuff, but this album surprised me, and while I can't see myself going back to it, I didn't hate it, and there were parts I did enjoy. Overall, I do think it is a good, varied album, and it brings together several types of genres into a cohesive package. For me, personally, I'd probably just give it 2 stars for my personal enjoyment, but I think 3 stars makes sense for it being influential in the NYC and American indie music scene.
Tv on the Radio had a pretty hot 15 minutes of fame and I missed it so I was stoked to see what all the fuss was about. Pretty forgettable!
Typical indie nonsense, but more tolerable than most
Pretty good overall, though I think most everything on here would sound a thousand times better if My Morning Jacket was doing it. 3.5/5
It's okay. Bloc Party does this style better though.
unfortunately not the biggest fan of this one overall, but DLZ is still fantastic
2.55
Good album
Lots of use of extended techniques and effects with the vocals, which more than made up for the limited vocal range. Good background music, nice to listen to while working. No individual track really jumped out at me.
i literally restarted this 4 separate times and never really finished it because it just feels a bit bloated. Nothing necessarily wrong with it but every time i restarted it i genuinely did not remember hearing any of the songs that I had already heard. Don't have a top 3 sorry
This album has such an incredibly full sound. When it's hitting, it wraps me up in a way I find so appealing. But when it's not really hitting, it tends to feel impenetrable. I also wasn't crazy about how some songs almost become entirely different partway through. I still had a great time, and hope to return to top tracks a lot more in the future.
Ok, sure, alright.
This seems decent. Listened while waiting on a hurricane so maybe didn't pay full attention!
Good. I will listen again
Fun electronic soft rock album, but the vocals and vapid lyrics really hold it back.
A new one for me, but I liked it
a bit too messy at times, with a similar pop rock vibe to Panic at the Disco (I think, I'm not actually sure I don't listen to either).
Indie Rock. Lush soundscape, at times almost too much. Sounds a bit like a rockier Elbow. Feels a bit dated. Some songs feel too long. Chaotic, a lot early 2000s styles layered on top of each other. Would not seek out to listen again.
Lots of energy, not to my taste but a lively listen.
It was quite interesting, but nothing stood out to me that much.
Not my cup of tea, but ok
I can hear the catchy parts but this isn't totally grabbing me fully. The vocals annoy me sometimes but it's still well-made. Honestly don't have much to say. 3.5 stars.
That's not my taste in musik. But ok.
okay but not really for me 3
This group was totally new to me. The album was consistently interesting, kind of different and I enjoyed it. 3.5/5
3.5
Like with most Millennial alt, I find it kind of interesting, yet just out of my total appreciation. (7.25) ★★★½
Meh, good enough album, wasn’t enthralled
interesting album that hit some of the right notes at the time and disappeared from view after - love dog is a great song
Listened to Tv on the radio on my phone in my couch on my floor on earth on space
I had known the album of TV on the Radio for sometime. I can’t say I’d ever taken a whole lot of time to actually listen to them until today. Overall, they’re pretty good. It kind of sounds like a mishmash a different ideas cast cross 3 to 4 different generations. Some of the songs sound like 1970s David Bowie mixed with LCD Soundsystem and a little bit of Maroon 5 mixed in just for fun. Key songs for me were Golden Age and Shout Me Out. I like the groove of those, like good songs to listen to again and again this album is really reasonable. I wonder what else they got?
TV On The Radio is an interesting group and a critics darling. Probably admired due to their varied sound and experimentation. They sound like a darker and edgier version or Broken Bells or Gnarls Barkley. I think I bought this as an mp3 during my iPod days. "Dancing Choose" was the song that was the hit then. But then TV on The Radio hit me again when DLZ appeared in an episode of Breaking Bad. It was used to perfection and showed that it is the best song on this album. This is a good listen but is so dark and moody, it is definitely not an album for any occasion.
Some tasty grooves in here, trancy almost.
I like the sound of the percussion - 3 stars
Very good. A couple songs stood out
Expected this to be hard work, but got to the end wanting more.
An interesting combo of the earlier Alt scene of the 00's and the blooming English Indie sound of the mid 00's. A well written album both lyrically and sonically. Funny that Phish covers one of these songs.
Feels like the musical equivalent of white bread and room temperature tap water.
Funky + not their best Where are the melodies
Can't put my finger on anything specific I don't like, but somehow this sum of a bunch of decent but not amazing things make an album that I just can't care about. Like the singing is not bad but not anything I'll remember. The instrumentation is nice with interesting sounds, but again nothing that really grabs ahold. DLZ was pretty good tho
Very fresh and exciting music, but I don't think I like it quite as much as I WANT to. If I had to pinpoint why, I'd probably blame lead singer's voice as just not grabbing my emotionally.
DLZ is a banger
Well, here's an album that I had no expectations for. From the research, this seemed like an album that didn't need to be on the list, but also doesn't have zero reasons whatsoever for inclusion. Like, it's nobody's first or even hundredth pick for a list like this, but it also isn't low enough to be on the level of something like Haunted Dancehall. However, everything depends on one simple question... Is this album good? Fortunately, I think it's pretty alright. It's fairly different from a lot of the other indie rock albums on the list. There's a bit of funk and soul influence in here. That's nice. The singing, instrumentals, and writing are all pretty solid. There's really no reason for me to dislike this album. It's not my favorite album or anything, but I respect it and can kind of see why it might be on a list like this. High 3/5.
Indie rockia, joka käyttää elektronisia soundeja vähän kuten MGMT. Ok hyvä, ei superia. DLZ:ssa hyvä hämärä tunnelma. Parhaat: Red Dress, DLZ, Halfway Home
Sometimes with these indie rock albums it just feels like they’re trying to hard to sound like an indie band
Decent album, not really many songs I could recall that would be deemed great as a standalone piece.
Irgendwie cooles Album, aber nicht mein Geschmack
.3
This is a unique review. I believe I would rate this band higher, in fact, I think I am likely to, once I hear them more and get into them. See, with TV on the Radio, I never even heard a single song of theirs by accident somewhere along the way! So, while I am intrigued and interested in both their style and sound, I am painfully unfamiliar with their work. That means that since this is the very first time I ever heard them, I don't know quite what to think yet. I have a feeling someday I would revisit this review and go a bit higher. But for now I will play it safe and call them a strong worthy band.
OK.
It was fine.
I was surprised at this one. Not a bad album to listen to. I could listen to it again, but still probably wouldn't seek it out specifically. All in all though, from a group I've never heard of, it was decent.
good!
there's nothing offensively bad about this album but on the flip side, there's nothing amazing about it either. i do enjoy the radiohead-like electronic influence on here but more times than none it just ended up not doing enough for me. i also think they overdid it both lyrically and instrumentally. more times than not, the lyrics come off as really pretentious - like an english lit a level student writing a song and thinking it's the pinnacle of poetry when it's just too dramatic in reality. and the goddamn violin, it was in every other song. i can appreciate the variety of moods and tempos on here, it did leave me curious as to what they'd do next. but no tracks outside of family tree resonated with me. i don't know if it was the bad singing - we seriously need to stop using the indie genre as an excuse for poor singing ability - or just me being too stuck up. either way it's a solid body of work but i think i could've lived without listening to it.
interessant, zwischendurch dachte ich mal da spielt Coldplay
Heard of ‘em but that was it. Now I’ve listened. Hearing lots of different influences. I wouldn’t turn this off.
a little repetitive
I could never get into this era and style. It basically all sounds the same to me, and since I didn’t listen to it when it came out, it has no relevance or importance to me. It was ok, I suppose, but mostly I found it to be decent background music. I guess a good review could be, “This album has music on it. There are instruments and singing.”
No me sonaban de nada, agradable.
I don't love or hate this music. It's there and it's creative. DLZ is the one standout to me. Liked songs added: - DLZ
I enjoy a lot of this. I think the ideas and sounds are better than the songs themselves. I can for sure tell they inspired bands like the temper trap and young the giant. the variety is nice. The synthy stuff plays really nice.
Fine
This is an album I'll need to listen to again to give an accurate score. Few of the tracks really made my jaw drop, but I really like his voice and thought the whole experience was pretty pleasant. I'd give it a 3.4/5 today, but may listen again tomorrow. I listened again and agree with my rating. 3/5
Fine. I remember when the pitchfork crowd was loving on these guys, and didn't really get it then. Sadly still do not get it now. Its competent music. Dancing choose, stork n owl, dlz and lovers day are ok. Almost points off for non-musical silence (ok John cage) but maybe get it back for the french spoken word (ok Serge Gainsbourg)
I kind of like Dancing Choose and almost like Golden Age
Notes of Peter Gabriel and Prince while being loyal to contemporary styles. Very original compositions. 3/5
New one on me.
It's okay just not really my style.
Not really bad, good production, even, but something that I just can't relate to. 3/5
It's nice. I've never been a big fan, but I like it
Well this was an odd one. I hadn't heard of this band before so went in completely blind. The album is enjoyable, interesting and well produced, but it's ultimately forgettable. There's no hooks, nothing special that sticks in your mind. 10 mins after my first listen through I couldn't recall any specifics. This is an album that I will have to listen to quite a few times to form a true opinion, but right now I don't have time so my rating is based on just 2 listens through.
Original sounding band, I don’t know what kind of music this is trying to be. Not terrible but not for me.
Up beat and funky , love the vibe it brings to your soul when you sit down and feel it . Even the lesser songs have a tingle to them with a flexible lead singer along with a badass base guitar
Notable tracks: DLZ, Golden Age, Dancing Choose
3.5
Super interesting mix of genre influences.
Another decent album from a band I’d not hear off before the 1001
Je ne peux pas me remémorer une seule chanson, mais je me souviens que c’était correct
Two TV on the Radio albums have made the list. The wrong one was removed. Their best didn’t ever appear.
Kinda background music
Prob a 3.5 - not their best but still a decent listen
Not my favourite of theirs, much less consistent than the prev two. DLZ is a banger though. 3.5
Enjoyable indie rock album with great production, though overall not as memorable as some other albums from this genre.
Constantly surprising. Lots of fun
Very nice alternative album, I enjoyed Top tracks: Crying, DLZ
wel geinig
I'm not a huge fan of TV on the Radio. But I don't dislike them. It was fine.
Reminds me of being in college again. Feels significant as a marker of a time when blog bands really ran the world.
Solid album with some interesting tracks didn't do enough though. Light 6
This is another album that I liked more the second time I heard it. I don't know, maybe I wasn't in the right frame of mind the first time. The one thing that did turn me off was all the falsetto singing. Not a lot of people can pull that off well, and you shouldn't use it too much anyway. The song styles had a lot wider range than I expected. It's nice to see a band trying different things. It's an album I may come back to, even with the falsetto... Top tracks: "Family Tree," "Halfway There"
I recognized the name of the group. Other than that it was all new to me - the songs I know of theirs aren't on this album. I really liked the opener Halfway Home - cool pumping beat and poppy vocals fit it well. It's not exactly rock to me, but it's good/close enough. I didn't like the vocals on Crying - too much high-pitched? Too much like a Spoon knockoff? I didn't mind the song overall, or the next few. But I didn't find another song that really grabbed me until Golden Age. Funky bassline. I came to see this album as very eclectic - lots of different styles. Some I dig, some I'm not sure. Red Dress was cool - rap, funk, rock. Shout Me Out had a nice up-tempo rock feel. I like these guys but I don't love them. Ditto for the album. At least a 3, maybe a 4 on a different day.
Never heard of this group and the music was meh meh meh. Never will listen again, but not because of intentional avoidance. Cool to see Black representation in the whitewashed indie music scene. Three stars.
I enjoyed the high falsetto voice and the chill sound of it. This feels like an alternate reality coldplay if they didn't get big. Enjoyable but forgettable. 3 stars
Dancing Choose was pretty good, but the rest of the album was just fine.
halfway home- 4 crying- 4 dancing choose- 5 stork and owl- 4 golden age- 5 family tree- 4 red dress- 4 i dont like this experience. i tried to give them a chance but its very very boring
Album 320 of 1001 TV on the Radio - Dear Science Rating : 3 / 5 Favorite Track : DLZ Another solid 3. Good listen but nothing to share around the dinner table.
The addendum band of early 2000s rock. A few hits and overall, good songs but the album as a whole doesn't do it for me like the strokes or LCD soundsysyem.
Proof that all the good band names were used in the 20th century. TV on the Radio? At least we know it wasn't developed by a marketing agency. I've never heard of these guys, but looking at Wikipedia, it seems they were pretty well respected at the time. They have some interesting things going on here, interesting rhythms, some cool vocal things in the background. Overall good sound. Not a huge fan of the lead singer, but not too detracting. Good variation in the songs, without seeming to ping-pong aimlessly. I enjoyed most of this, a couple of songs missed the (my) mark, but not badly. Not quite good enough to give it a 4, but super solid 3. Add it to the "check it out again" list. 3/5
It was a solid 3 stars.
Was fine. Liked the back half more than the first. Honestly was surprised by how recent it was? Kind of assumed it was older
In my limited exposure to TV On The Radio, I have always liked Adebimpe's voice in its higher registers, but when he sings a little lower, he sounds like that guy from The National, who gets on my nerves in the first 2 bars. Interesting that both bands are on 4AD. Anyway, for the most part I like TVOTR, but nothing really stands out about this album: just indie rock from the first decade of the 21st Century. I can tell they're trying for something new and still accessible, but nothing really sticks.
Some of this is amazing but a few songs are HUGE misses. 3⭐️
Ok. Not memorable though and a little uneven.
Day26 - pretty good album. i like their sound.
I could wash my dishes to it. Not super exciting.
Not unpleasant. Nothing that compelled attention
Lots of cool synths and drums but I couldn’t stand the high pitched vocals at some points.
I thought I recognised the name TV On The Radio. Then I realised I’ve already reviewed one of their albums. I suppose it says something of my opinion by the fact i don’t particularly remember listening to it. Hopefully this one is more memorable. Songs I already knew: none Favourites: Dlz I can already guarantee than in a day or so I won’t remember any melodies or lyrics from this album. It wasn’t bad, it was pretty straightforward indie-rock, but definitely didn’t have much to make it stand out. I’m surprised that they have (at least) two albums that are considered good enough to make a book of 1001 essential albums. I genuinely don’t know what else to comment on. This was fine.
I saw TV on the radio in 2004 and shortly after there 2006 album they fell off my radar. I still enjoyed the vocals but I felt this album was like one long run on song.
Very decent mostly mellow album. This album did make me think it was designed specifically for being on movie soundtracks though.
As much as I want to love this, there's not enough variation to keep me invested. Will listen more
FAVO: Golden Age, Shout me out
OK
Don't know what to think of this. Like many things on here it's ok and again, it's just that - ok. I wish I liked it more but it was kind of too much of something.
This felt like one of those 1 hour karaoke bar private sessions where you and your friends get together and sing as many songs as you can and you’re laughing the whole time. Sometimes you guys absolutely smash a song, then the next one is a little suspect. Overall a great night out with the boys.
B- Halfway Home 4 Crying 3 Dancing Choose 3 Stork & Owl 3 Golden Age 3 Family Tree 3 Red Dress 3 Love Dog 3 Shout Me Out 3 DLZ 3 Lover's Day 3 My family did not enjoy when I played this in the car.
Some millenial music that does not annoy.
Interessante Musik, nicht ganz mein Geschmack.
Cat: they’re at this cross-section of kinda cool and kinda weird. Ah, golden age I recognize. Makes sense. AJ: I AM A GOLDEN AGE!!!
I like the vibe on this for the most part. It's a bit frantic at times, but they're an interesting band and the songs have a lot of experimentation in them. Probably not one I'll re-visit, but there's some good songs on here. 3.5 rounded down.
Good music of genres in there and some catchy hooks but overall pretty average.
Feel I should like this a lot more, given every band I love seems to end up being linked to them plus I really like a good handful of songs from them. About half this album I really enjoyed, the other half passed me by and didnt massively grab me. Decent enough, but I know they have better than this. Will be back though, imagine it’s a grower
Mixed feelings about this, definitely some interesting songs and mix of styles. Most songs didn't really have any obvious hooks and together with the vocals/production it definitely falls into the pitchfork-y category for me, this sort of indie pop is one area I feel I'm an out of touch old man. Something grabbed me a bit more than other albums of the sort have though, would like to listen again.
I find it hard to pin point my feelings on this album. It was kinda all over the place and has a large mix of styles. Feel like there is something decent here but its crushed under all the random ideas.
Not heard these guys before. Quite a mix of styles here, some I really liked, others not so much. I enjoyed the slower ones more. Highlights: Dancing choose Family tree 3.5
Wanted to love this but just liked it. A lot of great ideas and sections, but lacked cohesion. Golden Age is a grat tune and DLZ is probably as good as it gets
Simpático
un-Enlightened
Unfortunately, I really wanted to like this more, as it felt like every single song had gripped me right away, but only a couple tracks held on to me the whole way through the song. It's all definitely "good," but it also feels of its era, just being critical darling-indie rock, and feels predictable in a modern lens. Perhaps had I heard this when it released I'd be singer higher praises, but instead it is just okay.
I really enjoyed the instrumentals, the vocals didn't seem to match the same energy for me though. 'DLZ' was an exception.
Interesting, never heard of them or their music, but this was ok. Unfortunately, nothing catchy or memorable.
It was alright, a bit different but not something I would go back to listen to.
Good compositions and one recognizable hit.
Interesting listen. Will revisit.
Disco-tinged aughties indie. Not bad but kind of forgettable.
Catchy enough, good as background music.
I appreciated the variety on this album. I thought the bass lines could have been a little stronger, especially for an electronic leaning album. Felt like video game music at times but I enjoyed it overall
This album covers/incorporates multiple genres ranging from Peter Gabriel-like prog rock to funk infused dance music. Maybe they never have had widespread commercial success because people don't know how to categorize them? Overall, enjoyable and very well produced.
Weird genre mix: kinda funky, kinda rock, kinda pop. Lyrics, when I noticed them, led to some eye rolls. A solid album though not one I would seek out. Best song: Dlz
Really good album that I owned and enjoyed when it came out. Not an all time classic however, and it does not include their best song (Wolf Like Me). I'll add a few tracks to my playlist but probably won't go back to this one again.
Never listened to this band before. It was just ok for me. The vocals are really good.
I don't really understand why this album made the cut, but it wasn't bad. There was some interesting stuff happening here. Still pretty mid. 3/5
I can see how this could've been an inspiration to other bands to do something similar. I can't quite put my finger on where I've heard traces of this before, but I am confident it's out there somewhere. I appreciate that it stands out and takes a leap of faith in being original and I'm positive this sits well with a lot of people, but it doesn't quite manage to grab me unfortunately. It's probably just not my cup of tea.
Meh
3/5. This is an interesting and unique album. Not quite pop or rock or dance, but all three at the same time. It can sound a little off sometimes, like sounding different to sound different and no other reason. I appreciate the uniqueness but it doesn't land all the time and can be boring. Not perfect but still a fun listen.
Good alt rock! But I like more of the songs outside this particular album
It aight ig pretty dancy record got some nice production vocals are aight don’t care too much for the record overall 5/10
A real grab bag of styles explored here which makes it both a challenging and intriguing listen and at times I had to check to see if I was still listening to the same record. It has it moments and overall I like it, so I would recommend it, but essential? I don't think so.
3.75
I'm a sucker for a concept album. Unfortunately, this isn't one. The tracks are individually good, but the album is sadly less than the sum of its parts.
Indie rock. Aburrido.
3.5/5
Pop, I suppose? Good mix of instrumentation, ranging from vaguely electronic to kinda jazzy
Good enough
It's alright. DLZ is pretty good, though.
3+/5
Very unique and interesting blend of styles and influences. The various songs were very hit or miss whether I enjoyed them or not. I would give this another listen overall.
DLZ is a fun song from Breaking Bad
A bit samey, didn't really click with me. wouldn't listen again
Another band I've come across but never really dug into. Half way through, enjoying it so far. Good album, some good tracks, but didn't blow the doors off for me. Would love to give it a 3.5, but will round down to 3.
first time listening
I dig it alright. It's maybe a little too ballad-y for my taste. I really like the parts where it picks up in energy and groove, and I wish it would've done that a little more.
Very unique, every song was interesting and different
Almost wrote this one off as just another hipster rock band from the late 00s. But it was just enough fun and funky to be enjoyable throughout. Every now and then i swear they did their best Coldplay impression. But it was a good listen.
Golden Age best song, followed strongly by Family Tree. Does not feel cohesive? Or rather, lack of a consistent sound throughout the album? Well made music from talented musicians that sounds very interesting but critiqing as a whole, it's just okay. Not what I'd listen to on the daily. Seeds is their much more cohesive album. Need to listen to their other albums and see what they're like.
I didn’t hate this I found a few songs likeable. One transition was wonky to me family tree->red dress had to check if my Spotify just threw on something random
This is pretty good stuff! Sometimes I can't get into the vocals but musically this is tight and it's very unique!
I enjoyed it more than I didn’t. Some songs went on for too long and sounded the same. Stork & Owl was buttass. Crying, Red Dress and DLZ were the standout tracks for me.
Stork and owl
Bra album, uttrycksfull röst/röster
Odd one. Not enough musicality in it for me.
I prefer seeds to this one. Its still pretty good though.
Sounds like an interesting mishmash of lots of other great genres and artists. I'm intrigued to listen further but don't feel like they have their own 'brand'. This is good listen but nothing special.
It's rich and pleasant, sounds a bit like Flight of the Conchords in places, haha! I would listen again as background music, but if I heard it again I don't think I would ask "who is this?".
'Halfway Home' just feels like a really bad song to start with, so I probably deducted more points than usual for that. It was just slow and tiring and uninteresting. The vocals were also a little hard to get behind in general. Besides all that, I do think I like this band and this album. There were just some creative choices that didn't gel with me. But 'DLZ' was on Breaking Bad, and that scene was amazing, and that song goes so hard, so it probably got saved from a lower grade because of that.
Solid 3.5 some dump tracks but the good is pretty darn good
Enjoyed it, DLZ is great.
I remember kinda hating this band in college. This record started off pretty strong but kinda lost me in the middle until the end. Happy to be wrong here, though. Standouts: Halfway Home, Shout Me Out,
It's not a bad album, but at times it felt like it was taking itself so seriously. Could have been the length of each song, could have been the tone of the lead singer
pretty good, they should probably strip it down a bit more, lose some of the filigree
I can understand why this is considered good but it's totally not for me. Very inventive and compelling in parts but I could never quite get it. 3.5 stars
Much like a couple albums before (The Eels), what a very unique diversity of sounds, songs and genres. I wasn't sure if it was rock, pop, rap, funk or what. I've listened a coupe times and I'm still not sure what I heard. But I'm an old dude who enjoys a new experience and I have so say, I did like a lot of the sounds of this album. Some times it was the lyrics, some times it was the music, some times it was just the uniqueness. I'm sure I heard some Beastie Boys in Dancing Choose - Prefuse 73. And really call me crazy, but I swear I heard some Prince riffs in there. If he was sampled or not, I'm convinced a couple songs were influenced with Prince sounds/style. Remember, I'm old so it could be I'm just crazy. I didn't feel like I wanted to download anything, but I just may give it 1 more listen. Some of my favorites - Halfway Home, Crying. Dancing Choose, Stork & Owl, Golden Age, Family Tree and DLZ. This album had a lot going on. Enjoyed the experience. Will probably listen 1 more with Mario and some tokes. I've been torn on a few albums, this one too. I'm going with a 3. Maybe low for my writeup. 3
Prima album, best wat lekkere nummers.
Rare album that I thought ended better than it started. Strong 3
Trouble on where to put this one. Thought it would be something I liked more. Soft 3
Interesting. Can't say I'd pick this, but not terrible.
Meh
