Don't Come Home A Drinkin' (With Lovin' On Your Mind)
Loretta Lynn
Reviews (page 5 of 7)
Good stuff
April 18, 2024 HL: “The Devil Gets His Due”, “I Really Don’t Want to Know”, “Making Plans”, title track As with some other trad. country albums, I feel like I have to work to engage with it. Not sure why I don’t have that problem with later interpretations of the genre by Parsons, Harris & lang, but that’s the way she goes. I did enjoy this more the longer it went on though, unlike some that had good starts but snoozy finishes. Maybe the inclusion of some chugga-chugga rock n roll in the 2nd half helped (“Devil”, “Get Whatcha Got”) Loretta’s voice is great, as is the crisp production that sounds newer than other 60s albums I’ve heard. 3.5
Classic
Her man is a real piece of shit and she needs to wise up and realize she's better than crying her eyes out thinking about him out fooling around.
estuvo cute ig pero 7/10
Love Loretta
Enjoyable but started to grate towards the end. Lynn's fixation on cheating doesn't make for an overly exciting album.
Glad we got some Loretta! So funny that the wiki here has 0 information. No reason this should be on the list. But we all know, she was a gem. Was she really the daughter of a coal miner? Who can say. But don't come home drunk expecting love from this woman. No sir. Don't you dare.
Country departues are always nice. I don't really know Loretta Lynn, but I think she did a lot of duets with guys like Conway Twitty so she's gotta be credible in her own right. Stylistically, nothing super notable here, but the songwriting is really fun and confessional. Multiple songs on here that are just unique perspectives and cool to hear, like the title track and "I Got Caught." One song about "stop spending all your nights drinking with your friends and then expecting me to just have sex with you when you come home drunk in the middle of the night" and a song about mutual cheating, "you got away with so much, but of course the one time I do it I get caught." Laser-specific stories here, and the relationships are toxic as hell. This kind of country music can be really fun. Good album. Favorite tracks: Don't Come Home a-Drinkin, Tomorrow Never Comes, I'm Living in Two Worlds, Get What Cha Got and Go, I Got Caught. Album art: Plain jane cover, just Loretta with a bit of a crooked smile, basic font and styling. Certainly more effort put into the music than the album art. Then again, it's 1967. 3.5/5
Sonically a lot of the songs just sound the same. Fun to listen to for a little bit.
two flavours of songs basically tomorrow never comes
Cant say i didnt have a fun time but still just 60s boring country music nothing too exciting
p125. 1967. 3 stars. Tremendous voice and some great songs, let down by a lot of filler and a surfeit of steel guitars. Yeehaw.
Yeah this was inoffensive. I feel like Americans would be turned off by this but as a Brit we rarely encounter this kind of country so it was nice as a novelty.
A fine album. I'd have to be in the mood.
Catchy pissy lyrics
A full country album about a relationship where the dude is drinking too much. Not bad, but not especially interesting. Good voice, repetitive music and lyrics.
Rating: 6/10
Classic country. Quite ok but will never be my favourite.
some decent old country
Honky Tonk Country. This album didn't really do anything for me, I was over it midway through the second song. Don't really see what's so essential about this album but that could be due to my ignorance of the genre. Overall I guess there wasn't anything glaringly bad, just not my cup of tea. Loretta does have a really nice voice though, I will admit that. Not really a classic in my eyes. Probably won't revisit except for maybe the title track.
Nobody hates men like straight women, whew. It's funny bc she'd gladly play a Trump rally in 2024 and they wouldn't like her lyrics from the 60's. 3.
Loretta Lynn's "Don't Come Home a Drinkin' (With Lovin' on Your Mind" is a country classic. While Nashville country isn't everybody's favorite, there is something special about this album.
Solid country album. Kinda one vibe one theme
Loved it. Like the spiritual sister (in a less croony and more country/western) of Elvis Blue Hawaii. Good fun!
Beautiful vocals, but it’s just housewive country and we don’t like that in these parts (women)
3,5
Nightmare music
3s across the board. Johnny Cash vibes, good stuff!
Couldn't relate. Sounds ok
I don’t know who hurt her but she’s out for his blood. 6/10
Meh, good music but kind of boring. 5/10
Taylor Swift of the sixties. The entire album is basically a dis track. 6/10
That's not my taste in musik. But ok
I was only familiar with Miss Lynn because of the film The Coal Miner's Daughter. I'm not a country fan but this was enjoyable
I use to really enjoy these types of albums, but just don’t really anymore. I’m not a big drinker, and don’t want to be in a relationship that is so broken. Loretta has a beautiful voice, but these lyrics don’t speak to me or my life. That makes it much harder to relisten.
6/10
Really not a fan of country music. This is at least more bearable than modern pop country. Yeah not saying it's bad. But it's really not for me.
Good. Not great. The song writing (lyrics) were cutting edge. The melodies were very similar and a bit repetitive. Coal miners daughter is waaaaay better than any of these tracks.
Some tie-tappin’ tunes with a string feminist theme - if only we had listened then.
goes hard af
Don't Come Home A Drinkin' - 8.5/10 I Don't Really Wanna Know - 8/10 Tomorrow Never Comes - 7.5/10 There Goes My Everything - 7/10 The Shoe Goes On The Other Foot Tonight - 7/10 Saint to A Sinner - 7.5/10 The Devil Gets His Due - 7/10 I Can't Keep Away From You - 7.5/10 I'm Living In Two Worlds - 7/10 Get What 'Cha Got and Go - 6.5/10 Making Plans - 7/10 I Got Caught - 7/10 TOTAL - 88/120
The music follows a straightforward formula, which isn’t a problem - that’s the same for the rap and the metal. And within that the songs are really good. It’s the lack of agency that the women have in the songs that troubles me, nearly always the victim and never in control. If you want to understand why feminism was necessary, then listen to this.
Country when country was country.
Mooie stem!
This one felt like a run by the mill country record? I don't want to offend, but it just didn't stand out that much. Her voice is good, not too special, the music fits, but it never really took off. 6 out of 10
I really liked the vibe of this album. This wouldn’t be one that I would ever choose to listen to, but I loved it. The feel of the lyrics and the brutality of being in a cheating relationship was palpable through the descriptive lyrics. Will probably listen again.
Für ein country album eigentlich Recht okay
The Lynn-written joints felt strongest, lyrically, and followed the template established at the top. The players on Don't Come Home are clearly top-notch, provide an ultra-polished Nashville sound. So the record sits right on the border of dismissable, leaving aside the lucre.
Hyggeligt lille country album.
Sorry, not a fan.
Good country
Simple old time country music.
I'm not a country fan but this was kinda fun
This was nice. Nothing really reached out and grabbed me, but I'd happily listen to this again.
60’s country. Fine. End.
Felt like walking through a Tarantino movie. A lot more nuanced than I imagined it would be, too.
Really enjoyable singing
Once again it started off with scepticism, as the cover art looks like an invitation card to dinners at an Amish place in the 50s. Lucikly it turned out to be a very nice album! What a wonderful voice she has, she sings very well. It's hard for me to give it more than a solid 3 in the middle, because even though I can appreciate it when in certain mood and it genuinely made me happy to listen to, it's not really something I usually put on myself. It's also hard to know how this album from 67 has impacted the genre.
Country
Beautiful voice, fun listen
Reminded me of Country Bear Jamboree at the Magic Kingdom (and that's a good thing!)
Very cute album, I love Loretta's voice and lyrics. Would definitely listen to more of her. Forgot to take notes unfortunately.
The lead single was great fun. Cant get into the rest of it
Pleasant sounding country
Country is definitely far far outside my preferred genres, and I'll admit to bordering on intolerant of it at times but I get why this one is here - a woman's voice hasn't exactly been welcomed in stupid society throughout history and the American South in particular sure does love themselves some stupid society. I make no apologies for that statement but at the same time acknowledge my own hypocrisy here - funny when you let your mind open up a little bit, isn't it? Once this album started I immediately was itchy from the simple chord progressions and predictable lyrics... but again: preconceived notions and all... Once I stopped thinking about how I feel about "country music" and after letting it play through for about 20 minutes I find myself ... enjoying the mood? And I'm not much a fan of (any) vocals in general but her voice really does shine. So kudos and credit to her (limited as her thinking may have been in later life ....) for breaking through the male Nashville walls and even though this/she probably deserves higher I'll give a 3 for enduring impact and paving the way for not just country artists but anyone that doesn't fit in "the box" whatever it may be. 6/10 3 stars.
I find the pathos so overbearing that it's comical. And I'm not keen on steel guitars. No doubt it is a leading exponent of the the C&W genre, but it all sounds the same to me.
I don't really love Loretta Lynn, but there is a sort of cohesive portrait that this all paints that holds my attention. I think the first song slaps and then the rest are very good examples of the sort simple arrangement country songs that I can dig. 3.5 stars.
the queen of country, loretta lynn, with an album full of songs about what a p.o.s. her man is. she pulls no punches with this one and i, for one, am here for it. a classic country… classic.
I dig it enough but man, cheatin’ songs get old after awhile.
Good
First song is 💯💯
really enjoyed
Country. Ni fu ni fa.
Pretty voice, shame about the country accompaniment
Excellent album title
Despite, or perhaps because, this was basically a Lurleen Lumpkin album, I enjoyed this
удобно слушать получасовые альбомы, но кантри всё ещё вообще не для меня
Is this an album of collection of songs - and just said? Afraid so. Country would benefit from more concepts behind their albums. Loretta Lynn's work is the bet example of this. All the songs are quite enjoyable but there is a certain similarity around that makes the whole thing not really stick in your mind.
By glob, I wanted to hate this. But I actually kind of like it. I don't listen to a lot country, except for some Johnny Cash. I love Cash's pre-gospel era, can tolerate the post era, and I expected for Loretta Lynn to be worse. But I guess it's somewhere between. So yeah. Easy listen. None of the tracks annoyed me. Solid 3/5.
Mah, ok
Not my thing but I can appreciate it
It’s country!
Yee--and fans of women having a message to convey should really pay attention to this--haw. Yes, Loretta Lynn was quite a fascinating figure from the C&W world. I even own a best of album from her: *Coal Miner's Daughter"*, and I recommend it if you want to know a little more about her music and the way she used it to call the bullshit of men and all the shitty ways they could treat their wives (including her own husband / manager!). That being said, why selecting this particular album when there were many others from her that had the same structure and impact? Each of these LPs included a very "topical" and personal single (example "The Pill", about married women's contraception), a few other cuts also written by Loretta, and then far less striking tracks written by others, unfortunately. In other words, it was always the same thing. Which tends to suggest that Lynn was more a "singles" artist than an "albums" artist. Heck, when it comes to essential LPs by Loretta Lynn, that later comeback album Jack White produced for her is even a better candidate. All the songs were written by her there, and as a consequence, the whole thing was far better, even if it was decades after her heyday. So about *Don't Come Home A Drinkin'*, my overall grade for the purposes of this list of essential records is 3/5. Which translated to a 8/10 grade for more general purposes. Next, please. Number of albums left to review or just listen to: a little more than 500, I've temporarily lost count here Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: approximately a half so far Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: a quarter (including this one). Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): the last quarter (including this one)
Great production. Songs just wash over me. And I hate the drearyness.
Loretta Lynn seems like she was a powerhouse of a woman, from her vocals, her story telling, and potentially not putting up with shit from men in an era where that was not the norm. I liked her folk story telling through song, her voice could power through any note. Although the songs seem to wash together at some point, I still fill as though this woman had an overarching impact on today.
Good! Enjoyable! Probably won’t listen to often but I had no problems with it and it was fun!
Не плохо!
Nice enough. I’m not a big fan of country but this was fine.
Täähän oli ihan jees, nautin. Asiallista kantria, ei mitään turhaa.
Yllättävän hyvää settiä Lorettalta, näytä niille! Jollain tavalla viehättää, sanotaan 3.5/5.
its classic but still fun to hear on a list like this
2.5
Not my genre and some of the lyrics have not aged well. Still, didn't mind having it on.
A solid representation of what 60s country music was. It has some charm, love Loretta’s voice and the slide guitar; however, it wore me out after the 4th song.
Mellow non-offensive cliché-laden country.
Love this era of country
I would say that it's well executed, but it gets a bit repetitive. I feel like most country songs are by men, so it was interesting to hear a woman's perspective in this genre.
Not exactly my style, but it's actually quite decent.
I can see it would have been amazing for it’s time but wouldn’t listen again.
Kinda get the gist after a couple of songs. Her man sucks and she either hates that fact more than anything or doesn't care at all. Still not bad overall and I imagine some of the songs would grow on you the more you listen.
Beautiful voice, not my kind of country, but Loretta Lynn is quintessential country. Wouldn’t listen again, but appreciate what she’s done for the genre
It was fine. not my cup of tea but it can be a vibe. Overall - 7.0
Great message, didn't love how they sounded the same
A very on the nose album, I can see a LOT of housewives in the 60s rinse this LP on their record players. Imagining themselves as the narrator of these songs and becoming sick of their husbands shenanigans and going off and becoming the wild women they wished they were - all whilst dragging on a cigarette and sipping on a cocktail. Love it for what it is and represents but won't be a part of my regular rotation anytime soon. Best: Don't Come Home A Drinkin' (With Lovin' On Your Mind); I Got Caught Worst: I'm Living In Two Worlds
A real woman's woman. Power to her country slinging self.
real old school country just a lady singing about her cheating husband
I don't listen to very much country music, old or new, so this was a nice departure for me. I'd definitely heard of Loretta Lynn and I've heard a few of her songs before, although I think everything on this album is new to me. She has an excellent voice -- really controls it so well yet delivers with emotion. There are some great musicians performing on these recordings, too. The band plays with nice precision and restraint. Although it's not the kind of music or album I imagine coming back to, I can appreciate how good it is for its style and genre.
I love this old classic country!
Some very straightforward 60s country music. Loretta has a really good voice and there's really nothing wrong with the instrumentals, just overall is very one-dimensional and doesn't entertain too much. 5/10
Ok, so country music ain’t my thing at all. For the same reasons as everyone else who doesn’t like it. How many songs about cheatin’ lowlife ratbags can one listen to in all honesty? However, Loretta has a voice that makes me think of the Aunt that everyone fancies and used to give you a cuddle that made you feel funny… I liked it, I didn’t love it though and I’ll never look to revisit it but it was enjoyable for what it was I suppose.
Country. Ni fu ni fa.
No canta Put Your Hand In The Hand ni Please Help Me I'm Falling (In Love With You). Country.
first listen it's pretty good
Not my genre, but now bad
Old school country. Amazing slide playing. Super tight band and vocals. Very short catchy songs.
Country's really not my thing, but this wasn't overly offensive.
Very nostalgic. She was a trailblazer. Wouldn’t listen again though.
Beautiful voice, I’m not much of a country fan
Pretty good country album, liked her vocals.
Good fun listen. Faves are the title and I Got Caught.
Same as the Buck Owens album from the day before - I didn't dislike it, played it through twice, wouldn't object to hearing it again, but won't necessarily seek it out again. Fave track - "I Got Caught", and the title track!
Ja best prima, vrouwelijk western. Niet echt mn ding tho
Meh. I like this era/genre of music, so I didn't mind this. The lyrics were pretty repetitive, talking about the same thing. Overall, it wasn't bad, easy to listen to.
Loretta's got a lovely voice and the band play very professionally. This plays along pleasantly enough: I'm finding even fillers like 'Tomorrow never comes' easy playing as a background sound. I'm happy I played this but the only reason was this poll. More educational than pleasurable and at 28 minutes it's not exactly value for money.......
I enjoyed this. It was short. The end.
Didn’t mind it as much as I thought I would. Not my cup of tea, but it wasn’t bad!
didnt think i was gonna enjoy but quite sweet actually! not the subject matters of the songs but the style and singing lol
There sure was a lot going on in 1967! I find the aggressively non-glamorous, dare I say homemaker, vibe of the cover art interesting considering the album title and overall content. The album starts strong with the attitude filled title track and the rest of the tracks clippity-clop along after at a fair pace. Loretta has full and effective control over her instrument and a flawless backing band. The lyrical content is full on women scorned with a sweet candy shell. The overarching theme seems to be "it's not all my fault". Although I wouldn't want to tangle with her (or her man!), I do think this material would be a hoot to see live. That said, this is full twang territory and a lot to take all at once. Also I think possibly two wrongs don't make a right; the point of view, though arguably feminist for 1967, feels as old fashioned to me now as the music. If I liked country I'm sure I would love this album, but I don't. I enjoyed this album more than I thought I would, but I didn't love it.
This was decent.
I can immediately see the influence and inspiration of Loretta's music had on Lurleen Lumpkin from the Simpsons. Seriously though, this album and music has been the influence of many aspiring female country music singers, including contemporary artist's such as, Neko Case. Most of the classic country music subject matter is covered, with a checklist of the essentials; drinking, lovin', cheating and don't need no man to run my life. Not my kind of music, but it was amusing and interesting.
TAAAA-WANG and dang a ding dong lilli look doodie do. Fuck n a I want to shoot myself. Voice wasted on crap country twang
A great voice, great hurtin' songs, many with reference to the devil and a few about cheatin' on a guy as a reprisal for him cheatin' on you. I like the fact that she and her sister wrote the title track which hit #1.
My initial thought was, bah, country & western, and that the title was amusing. Then midway through the opening track and realised the subject matter was more serious than the initial lightheartedness. I think Loretta Lynn brings the honesty and grit of a woman who is frustrated with the status quo (in the mid/late-60s) and wants to be treated better. Doubt I'd choose to listen again, but I respect it and suspect she gave a voice to many a frustrated housewife.
God Bless Loretta Lynn!
3.5 stars Beautiful voice, most enjoyed "I got caught"
Not my usual listen, I'll be honest. I don't know much about country. Not something I would listen to again but it was quite fun and she has a superb voice.
A nice old-timey country album. Still probably background music for me, but I’d give it a 3.5 if I could.
Not being a great fan of country music, I liked this album. Fine songs, well played.
Schon Schlager Countrymusik aber auch daran müssen sie sich heute messen lassen
Nice to hear and be able to say "I know who Loretta Lynn is" but not.more than that
this was enjoyable but not incredible
It's alright. It's not enough for me to add it to my music library, however it's worth mentioning that in itself it's pretty good. Loretta has a pleasant voice and some good tunes to sing to. I would want a bit more though. Highlights: Don't Come Home A-Drinkin', I Really Don't Want To Know
Bom.
It sure is a country album made in the 60's.
Nice country, nice voice. The lyrics weren't really my style, but it's a good album for its genre
I especially liked the voice and the interpretation of Loretta Lynn on this album quite appreciable. However, there is nothing that stands out that much. Good album!
Fav songs: - Don't Come Home A Drinkin' (With Lovin' On Your Mind)
A great country classic and an early example of not taking shit from idiotic men.
Fine; a bit miffed I got two country records in a row though.
3/5
Always find this kind of country music hard to dislike! Can tell this must have been pretty influential at the time.
I struggled to rate this one, and listened to it repeatedly, so at least the album was short. One problem is I don't know many of the originals so it's hard for me to gauge how good her re-interpretations are. And then the backing music is standard fare in my opinion (barely noticeable), so I'm really evaluating her vocals. She can warble, that's for sure. But I don't know if it's enough for me to round up a 3.5 to a 4.
The music doesn't do much for me (not a country fan except for a few exceptions), but I like her voice and there are some good lyrics. Lazy review today.
Man, I do like a bit of Loretta. It's not high art but it's solid country for singing along to and some tracks are genuinely great.
Girl power
Great lyrics but country is not my thing
Lovely vocals, loved the simple and universally relatable lyrics. I'm not a huge fan of folk music. I find it can get quite repetitive and it starts to feel formulaic after a while. And maybe it's just the time of year, but many tracks in this album reminded me of cheesy a slightly grating Christmas songs. The emotion in the music felt... sterilised? The rawness was removed so it fit into a neat little melody with similar instrumentals. I did like the pure vengeance in "Saint to Sinner" though :D Didn't listen to the full album but I appreciate why this would be on the list. Tempted to give a 2 but I won't let my personal bias dictate the score too much. Don't imagine I'll revisit this, but I know that if I gave it a chance it would probably grow on me. Which, imo, is a sign of good music. My taste is too underdeveloped to appreciate it fully. Saved.
I liked this!
Sad olde country music. I much prefer this to any contemporary country but still not my thing.
Perfectly sound for what it is, but not for me, I fear
That album cover, that title. That voice though. At times a bit too honky tonk, the ballads are the best. Imagine what they would say about a 28 minute album in the reviews if this was released today.
There are a good couple of songs here, but the majority are a bit of a snooze. The biggest draw here is definitely Loretta's voice, she has some major pipes. A nice record but nothing too memorable.
Standaard country album. Weinig speciaal
Nekako se čini kao da slušam jednu dugu pjesmu od 28 minuta, ali paše u pozadini. Vozim kamion na napuštenoj cesti, točim gorivo, cijene normalne.
I hate country but this is country done right. Great songwriting and musicianship, and you really feel Loretta's voice.
Pretty good country.
Beetje een twijfelgeval, maar vooruit: ik heb een goede bui.
a very solid country album - not sure why it is on the list (disclaimer: I did not know this album and only listened to it twice).
Well that was pretty comedic, I enjoyed all the funny rhymes and these upbeat songs and cheating on your man to get him back for doing the dirty on you. As ever, country is not my thang. BUT this was entertaining
Quite fun lyrics - but still sounds similar to most other country
Country poderoso.
fair enough if you like country music
Refreshing country music ..worth a listen
This album is downright SCANDALOUS! If I have to guess, she's gotta live someplace in Texas 'cause she sounds miserable and all the dudes she sings about are cheatin' drunk assholes. I think Loretta needs to get out of whatever this situation is that she's got happening. Perhaps there's a small mountain town of coal miners she might be happier in...? I love the brevity of these songs and there are some really great verses dripping with animosity. Here are two of my favorites: "You better wash that sneaky smile right off of your face For I just might to knock it off and put you in your place Just like the wild wild wind all you do is blow You say I'm holdin' you back but baby I'll help you pack So get what'cha got and go." And the second, from The Devil Gets His Dues, which may have served as inspiration for a girl named Left Eye Lopes, in 1994: "Well, your little play house is sittin' on sticks of dynamite And I get mad tonight and light the fuze If you come in and find out that my dog bites You'll know the devil's here collectin' dues." I think the point of this is that Loretta is a strong woman, has put up with a lot of shit, and she's realizing that Texans are assholes so she's gonna pack up her things and go. All I can say is 'Amen.'
I recognize it’s significance in country music, women singing about rotten men, and frankly it’s good singing and songwriting. But the music is just so basic, which is my problem with country (and pop) in general. First track is catchy
Loretta Lynn radio is now part of my Spotify rotation. Just shy of a 4 star.
Sassy lyrics.
3/5 - Not my thing
Not bad but sounds like a lot of other country stuff in the 60s
Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. There isn't much going on here, but these simple tunes are all extremely well sung and performed.
Hard to believe this album, with its female empowerment overtones, was recorded in 1967! About half the songs turn the songs of heartache on their ear, as she takes the reigns of her own story. I might rather listen to Patsy if I’m in a twangy mood (and there might be a little more twang here than I’d normally like) and the overall sound gets a little repetitive. Still, there’s no denying the musicianship of her band - I particularly loved the slide guitar work on the otherwise forgettable “Shoe Goes on the Other Foot”.
A perfectly pleasant album to have on in the background. Makes me want to go drink a beer, have a good cry, and keep the country going with some dolly and some reba
I don’t like country for the most part, but I do like the down in the small town sound of this album. Loretta can carry a tune. She’s not an elite voice, but still very good. The musical arrangements are simple most of the time, allowing the straightforward lyrical storytelling and Loretta’s voice to feature. The title track, Devil Gets His Due, and Get What ‘Cha Got And Go are all nice tunes that have a faster, driving beat. It feels like these songs are taking me somewhere. There are too many songs that are just too slow to keep my interest, such as Saint To A Sinner, I Don’t Want To Know, and There Goes My Everything. They feel like I’m stuck in the muck. Aside from this album, I found out that Loretta was a country music pioneer. She was the country music artist of the decade (the only woman to do so) for the 1970s. She also married a 21 year old that she had known for a month when she was 15. She had 4 kids before she turned 21. Loretta wrote a lot of songs supporting women’s issues and has recorded 70!!! albums over her career. Quite a lot of accomplishments.
Not being a country fan, this is a tough one to evaluate. I certainly prefer it to anything I've (briefly) heard on country radio from the past few decades. Lynn's voice is expressive, and the guitars all sounds amazing. Can't say I'll reach for it again but enjoyable.
It was ok, but not something I would have in my library!
17th May 2021 Listened to this throughout the afternoon but finished it off walking through Knightsbridge on the way to Hog's birthday dinner at Hawksmoor. A few absolute gems that I surprisingly enjoyed from this June Carter sounding album. The title track was good fun but the stand out was I'm Living In Two Worlds - what a beautiful song.
Country, toe tapping songs
quite a crooner. a female bing crosby or frank sinatra. Dolly's brunette cousin.
Has a melancholic feel to it, though I guess that's inherent to the genre. Don't know a lot about country but Loretta's voice feels nice.
YEEHAW! Classic country. Drinkin', fuckin' and fightin' in any order or even at the same time. Best Tracks: Don't Come Home A Drinkin' (With Lovin' On Your Mind), The Devil Gets His Due, I Got Caught
A good ol’ traditional country toe tapper. Lynn has a great voice made for this genre. Enjoyed it
Not half bad! in fact I kind of liked this one, Loretta Lynn may be my step into country music! Huh!
Classic country. Strong lyrics for a woman in the 1960's!
Another enjoyable country album. Short and easy to listen to.
Nice cooking album. First Aid Kit got some inspo here I recs
Buen disco de country. Sin más
It was okay. Lyrics were great if depressing, but I just couldn't take the way this album sounded after like 3 songs.
Anyone who has been unfortunate enough to live with me knows I bloody love Country music. Not the pandering nonsense of your Keith Urbans singing about fucking tractors when hes never driven one in his life but your great songwriters and performers like Dolly Parton, Kris Kristoffersen, and Johnny Cash. I'm aware of Loretta Lynn but had never really listened to an album. Luckily Loretta falls into the latter category. A nice collection of well written country songs. Unfortunately not by her- Dolly she ain't, but she sings them well enough. Not the best of its genre and doesn't do anything for me to stand out from the crowd. Highlight: The Devil gets his dues, I Got Caught 3/5
No nonsense country.
Country. Suave, alegre, melódico.
Love a classic country record like this.
3 - da will ich traktor fahren
wasn't bad.
Songs: Tomorrow Never Comes, Don't Come Home A-Drinkin', The Foot Goes In The Other Foot Tonight
Great early country, if you like that. Surprised I haven't heard of her before.
I'm finally in a place I can enjoy classic country. Still don't vibe much with the modern stuff but the oldies be singing goodie to me these days.
it was tolerable for a country album
Short... lots of songs sound the same... lots of songs about unfaithful men
Great voice, but twangy country.
I enjoyed it!
This record was all about a dysfunctional marriage...over and over and over again. I get it, dude is a drunk.
lite mysigt sådär
Lovely lady
Yeah I'm sorry but country is not my thing. The only upside to this album is its length. At only 28 minutes I was still waiting for it to be over. Not the worst country ever, but not very note worthy Mid 2.
I mean ya, solid but country Will I listen to again: 5%
Great voice. Average tunes
If I was in the market for some good ole Country this would be high up on my list. But I'm really not. Do check out Loretta's Fist City though!
komische country. Grappige teksten, maar doet me niet heel veel
Legendary voice. Boring album
5/10 - very similar to Dolly Parton I guess, it's ok
Not as bad as some of the country shite on this list, but still a bit boring.
I was previously familiar with Loretta Lynn but not really much of her music. I may have heard the title track before, but most of this was new to me. While I can respect this, it honestly is not the sort of music I would choose to listen to. She has a nice voice, and these songs were fine but I would not listen again.
Not a big fan.
This was fine. Just not my thing. Big ups feminism though
You tell em queen don't put up with his BS you don't need no scrub
This wasn't for me
3.5/10 -I respect Loretta for stepping into a male dominated space but the traditions and trends of Country music aren’t enjoyable to me. I wouldn’t come back to this.
Absolutely hilarious whiplash from going from NWA yesterday to this today.
I'm sorry, but we could have used a different batch of songs here . The songs are not there .
Nice album, but why was she so sad? 😢😢🤗BIG LOVE 💕
Sounds like LL needs to find her a new man. Not a fan of this era / genre of country music.
Not a fan, however, the musicians on this album were phenomenal.
I liked her voice but I felt very bored
Not familiar with Loretta Lynn, but the poor girl seems to be a magnet for toxic relationships. Loretta's band sounds great -- I suppose when you're on your ninth album you can get some pretty decent musicians to record with you. Strangely it's Loretta's singing that is the weakest link. Her voice is pretty enough, but she sings with a forced sound that produces a that wobbly out of control vibrato. You can hear some hoarseness in some tracks that she is singing through which I'm sure is exasperated by her poor technique. A few sessions with a good voice coach would clear this all up. Didn't love this album -- country music is a tough sell for me.
I found this to be pretty boring, honestly. Fine enough lyrics and the band is alright but this sort of thing is hardly interesting to me and I can’t think of any reason why I’d put in on of my own accord. 1 listen
#374/1001. Will take this note and move on.
Old school country songs about a kissin’, cheatin’, and heartbreak. Loretta’s originals are the best songs on the album, which unfortunately does not hold up well. (1.8*s) She was proud to be a coal miner’s daughter…
I wanted it to be great
Really not my cup of tea. Can appreciate it for what it is and the themes … but man I really dislike country
2.5 - ok
Poor Loretta! If these songs were based on her life experiences, wow! Type of thing my Mum used to listen to. Great voice but musically not for me.
284 Great voice but not a style of music I particularly enjoy. Highlights Saint to a sinner I got caught
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Trad. country that doesn't quite move me. Not bad but really nothing that would separate this from any of the other this style/era country music
Im living in two words
All I know so far is that this lady has a rocky relationship with her partner. But without diving deeper into it, she keeps on singing along and trying not to dwell too much on the fact that she's living in a deeply unfulfilling relationship. It's ok country music. For me, ok country music is still meh music.
Yeah, I don't know, some of it is pleasant if a bit twee, didn't seem particularly remarkable to me.
Nice listen but very old school country
That was so very country, it was the most country you could possibly get in 28 minutes. It wasn't bad though.
Thank you for keeping this nice and brief. Mostly 2-minute country standards that she jangles through with a nice voice and nothing else really remarkable about it. The first song is notable (and the book more or less states it's the sole reason this album is included) as a bit of a dark cautionary tale that remains sadly relevant today by which time men really ought to be doing better. But here we are. Treat yer women nice, boys.

Ugh. Man, I don't get country. Respect to LL (the OG LL I suppose).
NOt one of her bests, I reckon
Хз, що слухав що не слухав
This is not for me.
I enjoyed Loretta's voice but the lyrics just made me cringe. If her man goes out drinking he better go find another woman to sleep with because she refuses. But she's heart break because he's cheating on her. But she loves him. But she's going to cheat on him back. It's glorifying this twisted thinking that Trad wives get trapped in where they feel they have to be loyal to their shitty husband while he gets a free pass to do whatever he wants. I guess there's some resolution when she cheats back on him at the end?
Mid
Not for me…
Bäst är kanke Titelspåret, The sho goes on the other foot, The devil gets his due och I got cought.
It’s fun to listen to this stuff to appreciate the history of music contextually but it’s a bit of a bore.
Gammel country med Loretta Lynn, en kvinne som har gitt ut over 50 studioalbum. Likevel forholdsvis ukjent for meg. Ikke akkurat noen høydare i det store år 2026. Top 3: Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin’, I Got Caught, There Goes My Everything
It was fine.
It’s fine? But I’ll pass, won’t need to hear this again.
Conceptually I found this album very interesting. I find that a lot of people try to view this album from a modern perspective, but I think context of the time is very important for a piece like this. Women's rights in 1967 still had a long way to go, women couldn't easily get divorced and couldn't even open up there own bank account. Modern listeners question why she doesn't just leave his toxic ass, but it really was not that simple for a woman in the 60s. This album is a radical feminist statement for it's era giving a voice to the voiceless woman stuck in abusive marriages. With all that said, musically I did not care for this. It was alright for country standards, but I am in no way a country fan. Country from a male perspective could easily get 1 star. It would be interesting to see this album reworked in a Riot Grrl style, keeping the feminist message, but upping the energy. My biggest complaint is that a lot of the songs sound exactly the same. Favorite Track - Get What 'Cha Got And Go Least Favorite Track - I Really Don't Want To Know (or one of the other songs that sounds exactly like this one) ⭐️⭐️
Not a fan of country music.
Nice vibratto but 30 minites of complaining and romanticizing a toxic relationship is bleh
Seems okay for a 60’s record-but not my thing!
I genuinely have nothing of note to say. Loretta Lynn has a very nice voice, that's about it.
It is a solid country listen. Loretta has a great voice in the record and the album is interesting throughout. 7/10 [SWAP]
Pleasant to listen to, but not really for me and all the songs are basically the same song.
Short and sweet. Enjoyed Loretta’s singing. Just a shame the songs finish before really getting their claws in me
I find the sound of each song very repetitive. Lyrics are cliched. Although maybe not back in 1967. Perhaps it was groundbreaking then?
it´s ok, like a good meal, but unseasoned, but I would put on a background. Today´s bird: Red Knobbed Coot
Can’t remember a thing.
Not a country fan at all, this was alright, the production was pretty good for 1967. She has a nice voice but a bit too much vibrato. Overall a 2 I suppose just since I'm not a country fan.
I am not a Country fan. Her voice is good, and the playing throughout is top-notch, but it's just not a sound I enjoy. 2 stars.
fav songs: i really don't want to know tomorrow never comes i’m living in two worlds heartbreak, twangy, love 40/100
Very samesy across the album and didn't do too much for me.
No. Just no.
2.5 not bad reminds me of elvis
That good ol' boys music
60
Country, 1967 -> 2
1,5
Well, it’s better than I feared but worse than I hoped. My reaction to the first song was saying “I think I’m too gay for this” out loud lmao. There’s some cool steel guitar work and I Really Don’t Want to Know is a really sweet love song but this album generally didn’t make me feel anything
Lynn's voice is fine, but I found these songs very homogenous. Just not a lot of variety, made for a relatively uninteresting album.
These old time country albums remind of being a kid in Kokomo. Dee, Gloria and Judy music. Can't say I like it, but it reminds me of some wonderful mothers. Not going to bash a legend, but this isn't really anything I would seek out. Also makes me think, would I ever been introduced to Prince and the likes, if I stayed? Would I have an open mind in closed mind state? Anyway, wear something purple and remember, I only want to see you laughing in the Purple Rain. A legendary artist. Just like Prince, but in a much different way. And that's OK! But for me, this album is a 2. 2
2.5 Well, I suppose it’s about time another classic country album shows up on this list. It’s not my favorite kind of music, nor my least favorite, but I can confidently say I have no idea why this one in particular is represented here. While I’m obviously not any kind of expert, this doesn’t feel like it’s doing anything special or that’s adding to my greater understanding of the genre in any meaningful way - she didn’t even write the vast majority of the songs here. I know that’s not uncommon with country, especially from this era, but I’m reaching out for something to grab onto here. My best guess as to the relevancy of this album is likely the feminism about it. It certainly hasn’t aged well in some ways, but I do appreciate her calling out her guy (presumably - I don’t think gender is ever specified) for being a drunken ass, and hell, if he cheats, she’s going to go right ahead and cheat too. Only fair, isn’t it? Those were honestly the better moments on the album, and they also happened to be the only ones penned (at least partially) by Lynn herself, so I wish we could have seen more of that. The title track is far and away the best, but for all my Jawbreaker fans out there, I think the biggest charm it held for me was imagining it as a reverse perspective to Kiss The Bottle - or maybe Kiss The Bottle is the sequel after our guy comes home drunk one time too many. Should have been kissing her. That’s all I got. I appreciate that it made me think of Jawbreaker, but this album is pretty forgettable otherwise.
This doesnt paint american men from the 1960's in a particularly good light. I found it a weird misogynistic time capsule but didn't enjoy the music. 28 mins felt like 2 hours
I am familiar with her name but I never listened to her music. I don’t know if I wanted to. Now that I have I can say that it’s not my cup of tea.
