Reviews (page 6 of 7)

That first 12 minute track was mind-numbing, then there were some other experimental tracks, then the one good song, Giggy Smile that might get stuck in my head, then one with a long silent stretch, then another one and it ended.

Nao é muito meu estilo nao

seven minutes into the first song and nothing has happened. This is going to be a long one. Lots of guitars, fades into the background with the (occasional) mumbled singing. You probably had to be there. I do prefer the originals, not the digital remasterings.

Acid trip

Hypnotic rhythms and extended improvisation. A krautrock classical from '73.

Grew on me the more I listened, but nothing I would seek out again.

An album that was trying to be a1, but kept accidentally playing good bits too.

This had a couple of interesting moments, but was mostly un-fun. I think harsh noise and other machine-generated experimental music can be captivating, but it works much better in a live setting. Recordings just come across like an album of old dial-up modem connection sounds.

As weird as this was, if you told me it was made any time in the last 60 years, I wouldn't be surprised. Would have been weird last week, and was definitely weird 52 years ago.

Ah the elusive krautrock, only learnt about this from this list..... Unfortunately I found most of this a bit too weird and without structure for me to get on board with. Bits of it were ok, but won't be rushing back. 2.5

Not for me

Verdammt, diese deutschen Jungs haben einfach gemacht, worauf sie Bock hatten, scheißegal was, oder? Still could not even begin to describe what the fuck krautrock is, even after a full listen. Interesting enough though, certainly didn't hate it.

Not for me

This was not my thing. I didn’t even finish the first half.

Slow, boring...

boring.

Noises. Nothing but goddamn noises.

Not sure this one is for me. I didn't hate it or anything. I get the appeal but just not for me. 2 stars.

Inoffensive, but the best part of this album was the 11-minute opening track which sounded like the uncut version of the intro to a sci-fi film.

Like a SNL skit gone wrong. Weird and not very enjoyable.

I didn’t finish it but what I did hear of it was weird but not in a good way

Enjoyed Jennifer and Lauft... Heisst Das Es Lauft Oder Es Kommt Bald..Lauft had me floating through space

The opening track 'Krautrock' really be testing a mothafucka patience at 8am this morning. The rest of the album was OKAY, it definitely doesn't sound like it was released in the 70's, it was definitely ahead of it's time but also I don't really care

I'm really not sure about this one yet. I still haven't finished the first disc and it's 6 hours later. This album is painful. I see how Radiohead among others were influenced by this album, but it's like if you took all droning parts of Radiohead, but removed all the high energy climaxes and replaced them with super annoying nonsense, that's what this is. Not the worst album I've listened to, but I do not care for it.

It was interesting, but not for me. 2 stars.

plenty of people complaining in the review that this one is weird, but i don't think it really is? it's mostly just an instrumental album that i actually enjoyed at several points... even if a lot of these songs drag on and on and on.... it's very, very, very german from start to finish. i liked the song "Jennifer" the most, as it's one of the only songs with full lyrics, but i also really liked "Piano Piece" and "Giggy Smile" tbh most people probably won't love this one, it's not for people who need more than just music or people who can't appreciate a strange sound or random sound going off for 2-5 minutes, over the track. not something i'll listen to again, but i have to respect the hustle and artistry of it, so.

Lyssna hellre på Can - Tago mago, Neu! - Neu! , The Exorcist GBG - The Exorist GBG

Småtrevligt, men rätt konventionellt. Hade förväntat mig mer sauerkraut i krautrocken.

I don't have a job that allows me to do the kind of drugs to properly enjoy this album. That being said, it accomplishes its goal of being an acid trip induced jouney

I enjoyed the parts of this album that didn’t make me want to hurl my headphones across the room. Sadly that was only about 20% of the time! It’s weirdly creative and like little I’ve heard before; it just sounds like bullshit to me.

Not really to my taste - not a bad album by any stretch but not much in it for me personally.

Mega experimentele Duitse tjak. Is onwaarschijnlijk een soort hele oude trendsettermuziek geweest. Beetje psychedelisch. Niet om aan te horen.

If, before I started this project, that fans of this band would criticise this album for being 'sellout' and too palatable, I would not have believed you. The opener is good, the rest of these songs range from goofy to experimental (read: shit). The one with the really long name in German is pretty cool too. At least it isn't Throbbing Gristle. Highlights: Krautrock

Krautrock is noise. Did I need to be on drugs to enjoy this? It wasn’t good. 2⭐️

nothing special

Idk what to say

I feel like this didn't make sense because I didn't see Faust I through III, but I keep meaning to see whichever one has Mr. T in it.

Weird. Not the worst but not great.

Krautrock? All these genres. Not my bag.

The last Krautrock offering by Neu was exciting and captivating to listen to and something I was sorry I hadn’t heard in last few decades since it’s release. This however was something I was sorry I had listened to!

Some ok moments but not enough.

No need to include this one.

Glad it created much of the music I like, but I will not listen to this again.

It’s weird, but I like weird. Liked the futuristic and hypnotic sound. More of a mood piece than a regular listen.

It was cool but but nothing remarkable.

im bored

Pleasant floating around experience without any hooks. At least I didn't find hooks.

Very weird... Krautrock look up Riem 1994

Hardpanninga gjorde det litt vanskelig å høre på. Litt kult men og litt ensformig. De remastra greiene var bedre

Not a fan

2 1/2 Stars: This has been a weird week for 1001 generator picks. Can you throw me something somewhat normal today, please?!

If this album is typical of the krautrock genre, I guess I'm not likely to become a fan.

Not for me really

There are a few half decent tracks here but several tracks are just the same nine seconds on repeat for 3-7 minutes before the music changes up for a bit. Meh

made my anxiety worse

This album was an absolute slog. I'm already not really one for prog rock, but apparently krautrock turns the "nope" levels up even further. This album really just seemed to ramble on and on.

Not bad, musically it was pretty solid.

A few good songs, which save it from a 1 star. But the noise in some of the bad song (especially the first and last songs) were absolutely awful. Literal noise, had me turn down the audio because it was so grating. I thought something was wrong with my device at first.

I thought this would be interesting but it was not.

Weird and noisy. Not really my jam, sadly, because it felt like there was probably some gold in here that I couldn't quite mine out.

this is a long long album with the first song being 11 minutes but i view it as the establishment of the vibe of the album. WHICH i do appreciate! i think that this was excellent- very interesting and i have never heard of this band before- faust?! ummm but i did really dislike several of the weird sound effects that they included it is a little too weird for me.

Ok 2/5

I was going to give this a generous 3, but that last song can fuck right off

This was quite a difficult listen; parts were ok, but most of it was subpar. Also, you don't need an 11-minute opening song

Really enjoyed listening to something completely new. I have never heard of before. But this was just a little bit too experimental for me. It did sound way more modern than 1973 however. Glad I got to experience the Faust.

Come on now, nobody HAD to experience this.

There’s experimental, and then there’s whatever this is. Faust IV has some moments of intrigue, but "Jennifer" might honestly be one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard. It’s like they were actively trying to test your patience. If you’re into avant-garde noise with no real structure, maybe this is for you, but for most listeners, this one’s a tough sell.

I think I lost some brain cells

Some cool ideas but so much shit I hated.

Reminds me of the machines at the dentist office

Not my bag - it was fine as background music but nothing stands out and I'd never realistically revisit it

The first song, Krautrock lasts 11 and a half minutes. And it starts for all 11 and a half minutes. And you wait for it to start, but it just starts. A whole 11 and a half minutes. And you say to yourself - is this still going on? Because there is no dynamics, the same sound is literally a whole 11 and a half minutes. And it never starts. And finally, not yet started, it ends. I didn't even notice the second one, I don't know what it was. The third one was OK to listen to, but just OK, nothing more. And after the fourth one, some experiments begin, strange sounds, some incomprehensible things that can be called a combination of sounds rather than music. So the whole album, from beginning to end, is a form without content. They played with everything and anything they could find, and the result is a big nothing. But I didn't die of it, so if I could, I would've given it 1,5 stars. But the system does not allow, so, let it stay 2/5.

Some good soundscapes, can hear a little influence on the Prodigy on the first track, but this album is all over the place some of which I like but not enough to want to go back and listen to it much again.

I appreciate things like this being in the list but didn't find much that was interesting to me in it.

Giggy Smile as def my favorite Song. Definitely an interesting First few listens but after that the magic fades away to me. Good to have some more challenging and not mainstream albums.

It’s a bit uneven, the more jam-rock cuts are better. It opens with the sprawling Krautrock which gives great promise. The next couple of tracks are a little less even and then we flip back and forth between solid jam-type tracks and some much more weak songs.

38/1001 - First song is 11 minutes long where nothing happens for 7 minutes, drums come in, then nothing happens for 5 minutes. Panning is super hard left and right. There are some cool things here and there but there's also way too much vamping/repetition of the same idea without any meaningful variation and it gets stale.

I just couldn't get my head around it. Listened to it 3 times. 2.5

Pretty repetitive and might just be because I'm sick, but it sounds fairly muddy. Never been one for long, repeating instrumentals anyway. Vocals are meh too. Pretty experimental for the 70s, but there's not much that does it justice.

Day408 - more experimental german rock and i don’t think i can take anymore

I've done this thing for 40 days and this is like the fifth "krautrock" album I've had to listen to. It starts of well with an instrumental, some early drone metal almost. Then there are a bunch of germans with heavy accents playing bad psychedelic rock five years after the rest of the world did it. Fucking terrible.

Krautrock, oh krautrock... To be honest, this wasn't as "odd" as I was expecting it to be. Most of it consists of droning instrumental sections (although the presence of the sax on track 5 could qualify as "odd" given the context here). This isn't really stuff that I dig, nor will I ever dig to be honest. Kraftwerk's the closest I'll get to enjoying this genre, but even they encompass a broader range of sound. I can certainly acknowledge that this type of music was unique given the time period, but that's all the flowers I'll give here.

Weird and atmospheric and unsettling but not in a wholly bad way

Goofy shit. Some of the instrumentals are great and then they just slap obnoxious noise on top of it.

I liked a couple of tracks but most just went on too long without getting anywhere.

The first track is amazing but unfortunately it falls short thereafter. Record feels messy

Too weird. Some songs were good but it was impossible to listen to the whole thing.

A literal snoozefest. I'm sure some rock nerds like it, but I thought it was slow and sleepy music. 2s.

Però què és aquesta putíssima merda? M'ha donat mal de cap només començar i ha seguit durant tot l'àlbum. Li poso un 2 perquè té el seu mèrit, però no ho aguanto.

Eh, not as good as I had hoped. Can is better at krautrock.

Oooof. This was not very good at all.

Nothing special

Weird shit

Þessi plata var mjög furðuleg. Annaðhvort voru lögin á plötunni eins og töff upphaf á lagi sem kom svo aldrei eða eins og lokin á einhverju dúndurlagi á tónleikum. Ég eyddi sem sagt tímanum í að bíða eftir lagi eða spá í hvort ég hafi misst af aðallaginu. Undarleg tilfinning

It’s just … noise, really, a lot of this. It’s not dreadful, but I didn’t really enjoy it.

Highlights: Krautrock, Läuft... In a nutshell: surreal psych prog. I dunno about this album. The track order didn't have a natural flow to it, like when you play a CD from an artist you don't know well and forget to deselect shuffle mode. Not as hypnotic as Kraftwerk's Autobahn, which was released the following year. I suspect Devo (maybe Talking Heads) and Stereolab listened to Faust. It's considered a krautrock classic, which I don't get as it sounds more psych prog, experimental and avant garde. And this is an album from the band who adopted the term krautrock with pride. Overall: 4/10

For some reason I always thought The Sad Skinhead was a Ween song. I'm sure this album's inclusion on the list is because it's innovative or ground breaking or something like that but it just really isn't for me.

I knew some parts of this album due to Apple Music suggesting me Krautrock due to other albums from this list like Can. I always skipped them, but this time I took the time to listen to the full album. Well, what should I say? Not a totally horrible experience, but still nothing I would listen to.

Strange German techno? Some of these songs made me uncomfortable.

This again is one of those albums I just don't quite understand

I enjoyed the opening track but after that I was less enthusiastic. Nothing I really disliked but I just couldn't get into it. And lyrics were a bit stupid sometimes. This is not always something that bothers me, but in this case it annoyed me a bit.

Disco raro, como una música de fondo ruidosa, con buenos arreglos pero sin convencer.

Did not enjoy.

High variability for me. 2.

Weird and kinda boring but not that bad

Nope just didn’t enjoy this, too weird.

Decent enough sounds, but I got bored halfway through. Not for me.

Not really my thing probs won't listen again

I hadent ever heard of Faust before this album. After listening- it was decebt but unremarkable. It had an interesting sound- kind of like progressive rock meets a more implistic style. I could see this being an influential album, but nothing really stood out to me.

Has a few compelling moments

Listened to it so it gets a 2. Weird but it had its moments I guess

Why is this on here... No songwriting, just jamming... This is not a record

Atmospheric

Interesting German prog rock. 2.5 stars for me if they did halves. Nice experimentation but lacks flow and maybe a little dated now.

Interesting and certainly ahead of its time, but didn’t pull me in enough to want to explore their other works.

Occasionally interesting but mostly just grating and annoying.

I've heard Jennifer and Giggy Smile before so that was nice to hear again. The rest of the album was new but I just wasn't that in to it

Idk what this was

Eh. 3.6/10.

While this was an interesting listen this is something that's not my favorite project. Parts were okay but Just a Second (or Deuxieme Tableaux, the end of this track) for example really sucked.

Interesting. I’ve never listen to this album before. I enjoyed the opening track. The sad skinhead reminded me of early WEEN. I can see where Faust was influential. I might have to listen to IV again to see if I enjoy it more, but on first listen it’s about a 2.5

This is so easy to ignore. It’s supposed to set a scene but it just sets off my ADD

This was...not for me. At times I'd feel like I was getting into a track and then some strange sounds came in and threw me off the overall flow. Not even sure I understand the relevance of the genre well enough to "appreciate" it

Pretty tough listen in the most part. Possibly one for the purists, but if so I’m afraid this may a bit highbrow for my taste. A few nice moments though, Just a Second and Giggy Smile in particular provide some light relief. I note from the Spotify figures that not many listeners make it to Disk 2, which says it all.

Fine weird German music. The last song started great and then it just added a ton of shitty distortion. You can definitely skip this one

sorry, I can't, while maybe interesting somehow it triggers the same aversion free jazz does to me.

Bit boring but not obnoxious

An endurance test of nonsense, interspersed with some really lovely songwriting. Why don't they just, I don't know, not start with ten minutes of the same noise, and get onto the songs that have meaning and tunes?

Really tried to enjoy where I could, but its just not for me.

Very interesting. Pretty repetitive in a Philip Glass sort of way. I guess this would be psychodelia? Not terrible interested to listen to again.

So this is krautrock. More like craprock. The first “song “was so annoying I almost shut it off. I thought “Giggy Smile”was going to redeem them but no. This is great if you want a headache

Favorite Track: The Sad Skinhead

The album goes back and forth between instrumentals similar to something like Kraftwerk, and songs that have a bit of an experimental "let's just try stuff feel." I give them credit for trying different things, even if it doesn't work. For example, "It's A Bit Of A Pain" has an intrusive guitar bit that just sounds like... you know when you're having a discussion and there's one guy who has a REAL abrasive voice that cuts through it all? Or if you're in a comedy club, and there's the one guy who laughs so loudly it cuts through the comedian? THAT'S how it sounds. It takes your focus off the rest of the song. I mean, was THAT the point? A song you can only listen to once, you know? I was expecting the rest of the album to song like the first song, which would have been fine. The fact that it didn't was fine too, but having a song like "Giggy Smile" which just seems... goofy. It just didn't fit for me. I get that there are thing here that are the foundation of Krautrock, but some of these songs are head-scratchers for me. Not something I would come back to.

Faust's Krautkrock goes from okaish electronica to droning noises, distortions and cricket chirps. Unsettling enough to wanting to quit the album half way.

Boring German language rock. Idk man its just not for me.

Interesting variety

A very interesting album, not heard much by them over the years. I liked the first track 'Krautrock' with it's incessant beat and great guitar noises, but then it all became a bit oompah oompah in places. Did I enjoy it? In places. Will I listen to it again? Probably not.

Kinda weird, kinda good. Not sure.

German. Much distortion. A song called Jennifer. Too many weird noises.

Experimenteller Keautrock. The Sad Skinhead ist ganz nett, aber der Rest. Nun ja.

WTF. Muuta ei pysty sanomaan....

Almost listenable, the album sounds like a bizarre collection of noises that could be used in the background of movie scenes, then all of a sudden some sort of horrific noise will play directly into your eardrums and your snapped out of the experience. Is it a listening experience?, yes. Is it one i would recommend for curiosity's sake? yes. Is it good?. No.

Krautrock 1.5 The Sad Skinhead 2 Jennifer 1.8 Just a Second 3.1 Giggy Smile / Picnic on a Frozen River, Deuxieme Tableau 3 Läuft...Heißt Das Es Läuft Oder Es Kommt Bald...Läuft 2.3 Run 2.3 It's a Bit of a Pain 1.8 Score: 2.225

German Jam Background noise barely any singing and when there is the audio for the vocals is way too low. 3/10

Different and not obnoxious, but not something I particularly enjoyed. Not going to go look for more Faust, or purchase a CD copy

Too much prog not enough music

Interesting ways of composition with tape splicing and sound experimentation, but I didn't find it appealing musically. 2/5.

Omg it's krautrock. I somehow like it (but it's too loud)

read this at first as Feist and was like “oh i didn’t know she had an album with this name!”

not my cup of tea

Initial reaction of frustration for yet another Krautrock band we would have never heard of and will never hear again made me want to give 1 ⭐️. However, I decided to give it a fair shake and must admit that some of the instrumentals are good. I guess chalk it up to ignorant American lenses, but I don’t think this qualifies as one of 1001 albums to hear before you die, at least in a list targeted at Americans.

It's okay, one good song though🔥🔥

I tried to like this but couldn't really find it that interesting. Just when it would start to go there, it went a different direction. Some songs would remind me of Godspeed You! Black Emperor but not complete. Now I know

Some interesting bits, but I caught myself checking several times how much longer until it's over.

I can appreciate Krautrock themes, but this was boring and kind of painful.

Nothing enjoyable about this at all. I think this album generator is trolling me.

Mix of industrial (mostly), hypnotic repetitive, with a few moments of lyricism and melody and a random piano song thrown in.

This is a really fuckin weird one. Early krautrock/ambient electronica. The first song (Krautrock) is 11 minutes long and nothing really happens in it at all. It's like psychadelic rock passed through spacey electronica filters. Same vein as Kraftwerk, but much, much shittier, and less upbeat. Closer to those Einsturzende Neubauten lads. Favourite songs: Krautrock Least favourite songs: The Sad Skinhead, Just a Second (Starts Like That!), "Picnic on a Frozen River, Deuxieme Tableux" 2/5

I really hated the first track. The second had a Gypsy vibe I could tolerate. Third- “Yellow jokes come out of your mind.” Nonsense. Song 4 made me feel itchy, so I gave up. I can imagine life in Germany (east or west) in the 70’s was complicated and that’s certainly reflected here. Not my cuppa. 2.3

Maybe it's because I just listened to Eno, but I get some proto-ambient sounds in places. Other than a few attempts at conventional songs, it seems mostly noise/experimental to me. I only know Kraftwerk for krautrock, so this expands the genre for me. Not into places I cared for. 2.6

The playing itself is not bad, but I found nothing compelling on this albim and it is far too long.

Really need to be in the right mind set for this and I was not and rarely would be.

My first Krautrock experience and boy was that odd. Enjoyed the more ethereal, synth-driven tracks but everything else was a miss. Favorite track: Lauft...Heisst...

They sound like they would be good live. Too bad they’re dead

Didn't get it on first listen as a whole but it had its moments

I like some Krautrock but this is a pretty uneven record imo. Some good ideas, some cool production for the time. A little too disjointed and "jazzy" for my taste. Sounds often like some mediocre musicians just noodling around having fun in a basement.

Krautrock, more like... noperock

dont love krautrock :( not my kind of noise

The song Jennifer was ok, but a lot of the album was just too experimental/annoying/long for me to get into.

Half the tracks we too cold and electronic, and half were too loose and lo-fi. Really a Daddy Bear/Momma Bear situation with no Baby Bear in sight.

Did not connect with this one. Too drawn out and monotone. Tracks were inconsistent

To quote Joe’s review of my new favorite band The Pogues, “meh”

Krautrock is not for me. Period. This one is not so bad.

Bold intro, but they figured it out. Must listen to Jennifer on acid. Trying to find out what made this influential, possibly all of the experimental sounds. Same year release as dark side of the moon. giggly smile good but too damn long. To enjoy this album you require a double dose of shrooms or acid Actually so bad I don’t think they understand music, but respect to them

Real weird. I feel like this is the music that plays in movies when somebody has a bad trip. I kinda dug "the sad skinhead" but the album is 90% noise, 10% music in my opinion. It felt like there was potential in some of these songs and then they either took too many drugs or thought too much about it and ruined the idea. Salvaged a 2 but just barely.

Interesting but not enjoyable. Albums like this are like concept cars. They’re not actually meant to be driven, but merely to display ideas. What’s funny is that Faust’s fans thought they “sold out” with this album. German rock is interesting. Let’s take a culture, destroy it with two world wars, and Great Depression, 12 years of Nazi rule, then see what kind of art the kids who grew up in that bombed-out wasteland create. It’s disjointed, little melody, industrial and ambient. Kind of makes sense when you think about it. Still wouldn’t listen again, though….

There are many albums. This is one of them.

Feels trippy and super slow most of the time. Bold first song with no lyrics and 12 minutes long. Second song lyrics were quieter than the music, bold again, but probably one of the better ones. So many experimental noises out of no where. Some Pink Floyd noise similarities just done in a way worse fashion. Beatles and Pink Floyd child that was neglected. Second to last song went wild then ended up with bagpipes making it feel like a funeral and then it finally got peaceful just to ear rape me all over again at random intervals in the final song. I am giving this a 2 because it’s obvious they can make music I think they just intentionally make it disruptive.

experimental, cool listen but probably wont check out again.

1.6/5 Half of this is not available on Spotify and the rest I'm not really into, so this was mostly skipped. Best Track: ???

Erm, clearly krautrock isn’t for me. 2/5

This is like early prog rock. Very weird and not very interesting.

2 stars for its experimental, yet still cohesive sounds. I enjoyed the lo-fi techno sounds, especially since it was in the 70s. Overall, this is a personal listen. To quote my wife "That is SO annoying"

Elements that I like keep popping through, but never consistently enough to constitute true enjoyment. 2/5

pontualmente irritante (quando parece que o Guitar Hero transou com um Sim e com o vinil do meu avô). muita coisa acontecendo, inclusive senti que tinha um filho e ele ficava batendo essa porra de chocalho!

I think this must be where you go when you're bored of jazz. Not bad music per se, but too out there for me to enjoy. It was difficult to follow the structure of the songs, and many of them approached sounding more like noise.

1.5 - I thought that this was gonna be a really rough listen based on the first song, but there are more song-like songs on the album that balance it out to a 1.5 for me. They aren't exactly my cup of tea, but they have tiny moments of things I would enjoy. It's just not enough compared to the things I didn't like. I'm not really sure if I like krautrock or not? I guess I have to listen to more to really know.

Nou, dit was wederom op het tandvlees hoor. Wat een gepiel in de marge. Ik ben muziekaal waarschijnlijk te dichtgenaaid om hier het briljante van in te zien.

Not too much on my wave of liking, but still very chill

faust this up your ass

Honestly pretty good for the time.

Just... not very good. Exceptionally boring from start to finish; high school bands could do a better job. 3/10.

Respect the complex composition and layers. It’s fun adding electronic noise on top of even conventionally more acoustic songs to make them more interesting.

Josh said it was a nothing sandwich and honestly. Yeah.

I understand why this would be an important album, I just don’t really like it. It’s sounds like music that would be included in a bootleg NES game.

Listened Before? N It was okay. Lots and lots of alt rock and electronic stuff lately is wearing on me and makes it hard to be objective here. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: The Sad Skinhead

Just not my thing. IDK

First went pretty hard but it was really long and reparative so then i got bored of it. the rest of the album was even more trash. 2 bc it was so different and im sure theres some reason its on this list

4/10. In one ear, and out the other

I hear how bands like Stereolab and Spacemen3 have used similar drone sounds. It’s good that Faust actually played songs and convention music amongst the noise art. Still not a very enjoyable album though, but not absolutely terrible.

Like the album says, this is the fourth studio album. Woohoo! It's really all over the place, however... weird.

Not much spoke to me here, although it is nice to have some more context to the Krautrock-inspired tracks from David Bowie. However, this feels significantly less artful than those songs. Cacophony is not the right word for this sound, but it is a collection of sounds that are hardly connected at all to me.

I know I was talking about warming up to Kraftwerk somewhat recently but this album has completely soured me on krautrock for a while. The sparse vocals sounded like they were recorded with the mic outside the recording booth and the rest of it was just really boring. It's not good enough to be ambient music and it's not interesting enough to listen to fully engaged. It doesn't deserve a one but it does deserve to be immediately forgotten about by me within an hour.

self-conscious weirdness just doesn’t do it for me

Unremarkable.

This was an inconsistent mess. It gets two stars because none of the songs were actively unpleasant.

Like a very long intro, gave up waiting for something to happen

One of the best things about this is when you get an album you've never heard by a band, you've never heard so there are no pre-conceptions. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by this offering.

Not my thing

I didn't hate this - some interesting stuff.

Yes, German music should receive a presence here, but not at all costs. Surely there is German music that is not as repetitive and uninspiring?

Krautrock...something I soooo wish I enjoyed more than I do. I feel like it would open up a whole slew to clever & cool bands that I could spend years exploring. Instead it typically falls flat like this one did. 2/5

Didn't blow me away.

I really *want* to like this. Weird/trippy is a draw for me in theory but give me something like Gong (which "Giggy Smile" definitely has more than a passing resemblance to...); songs that go somewhere, even if meandering into weird or seemingly aimless directions, ones that come back to any type of theme. I realize much or even most of my critique of this album is based off the opening track "Krautrock" which is plodding and even 4 minutes into it how can I not feel like: "get ON with it already." It was such a horrible decision putting this as the lead track ... for the love of Udo Dirkschneider - why?? Even just stick it at the end of side 1 (records!) as a weird interlude but with this as the first song (and "song" is not right, it's a 2 note progression over and over for 12 minutes) ... eh, parts of it are kind of cool but it just leaves a cynical taste in me for the rest of it. It's a weekend album so I was able to give it a few more spins through and am not sure if that did anything for me. Could they not have put more weird into the rest of the "more normal" tracks and added a little groove or mystery to the odd ones? Idk, it's asking a band to change their style so I guess I'll chalk it up to not liking it, with the notable exception of the aforementioned goofy "Giggy Smile." Regretful pass. 4/10 2 stars

I didn't hate it but it seemed kinda all over the place and some of it was really grating

ça faisait longtemps que l'on avait pas profité d'un bon album de krautrock, ce genre musical si cher à mon camarade d'écoute robhitler. Un album qui vient nous rappeler que la race aryenne est bel est bien complétement désuette.

This is pretty Krauty. god its so stylistically pure. I am feeling pretty spent about halfway through Lauft... Heisst Das Es Lauft Oder Es Kommt Bald..Lauft. It's A Bit Of A Pain is a real fucking stinker of a song because of the damn drone.

Probably the first Krautrock album I hear in full. Can’t say I’m appreciating it yet. I love prog, I love rock. But this is just a bit too much out there. 4 out of 10

More krautrock. Ugh.

This is one of those “it was really innovative and influential at the time” albums. I enjoyed parts of it but it doesn’t hold up as well as other krautrock stuff like Neu and Can. I won’t be listening again.

I had a few moments of interest in this but it mainly served as background music.

I thought the noise-iness aspect was cool but a bit tiring by the end. Not a super 'fun' record but I didn't completely hate it.

Kinda weird boring under-the-radar psych

This wasn't great for me, it kinda washed over me. Pass.

Some songs better than others. Odd and interesting.

I really don't appreciate it when it feels like I'm being hazed by an album's first track. I shouldn't have to suffer through 12 minutes of garbage noise for the dubious honor of listening to the rest of your album. And yet, here we are. Back in the vinyl days, you could get away with this nonsense more easily because listeners couldn't just hit skip to get past it. They were captive to some degree. But that just makes it more egregious that a band would force this on their listeners. Why not lead off with something that hooks people? Something like "Giggy Smile" that actually shows off your talent? Something that makes them WANT to stop and listen? Not that the rest of the album is great but it's not 12 minutes of noise. Every other song is more engaging than that first track. Sure, the mixing is really rough with WAY too much of the mix hard-panned left and right, making for a really unbalanced listening experience that's frankly headache-inducing over headphones. But, even with the very serious mixing issues, those tracks are STILL better than that garbage first track. Why do that to people? It's not helping you out.

started out extremely annoying and hateable, but actually this is great. I respect the places this goes even if it's note exactly nice to listen to. best tracks: Picnic on a frozen river, lauft ..., the sad skinhead

It's just ok. Nothing that moves me to listen to.

Not mad on the kraut stuff. 2

It's exactly what I expect from an experimental rock piece. Interesting, yet boring.

I liked the first track and then kind of downhill for me, despite being predisposed to the genre.

Not my cup of tea. 2/5

Not terrible, early experimental German rock

Anxiety inducing . Maybe you have to be in the right mood

2,5 very interesting

Difficult to listen to

Parts were OK, but I’m general just not my thing. 2.5 stars.

Sounds like other albums we've listened to before. Avant-garde just to be different, no real musical direction. No style. Couldn't pick this band out in the crowd.

Not really my thing.

más tolerable que tubular bells menos tolerable que el de hoy (espero) 5/10

Faust actually really liked the instrumental. All the synths and repetition in krautrock had a cool minimalism rock thing. Jennifer is such a weird tune- the wobbly bass. The weird rhythm In that piano. The awkward vocal actually kind of work on this one. Really can’t stand the vocals on the other tunes. It’s a bit of pain- omg that dissonance! Cool noisey guitar solo. 2.5? 3?

What a bizarre record. if they left out all the vocals I would give this a higher rating, but they’re so weird and bad it ruins the droney noise vibe, which actually could be kind of cool. I honestly thought I was going to have a worse time listening to this than I did. There are some cool noises and I kind of liked the piano piece. 1.7

Rating: 5/10

Nah. I’ve had a run of albums that don’t do it for me so my judgement may be clouded. However, I’m good value for money if you bought the cassette.

Electronics mixed with rock and ... noise? Interesting concept, but fails to get my attention. 1.5/5

Krautrock is not my jam.

Why do this generator hate me. I’m at my wits end

Tiring artsy krautrock.

I'm not quite sure what this was. It had some moments, but then it would lose me completely. I guess I could say that I can respect it, but I don't really need to hear this ever again.

Jason Mendoza's version of hell where you're at the rave and waiting for the beat to drop... ... but it never drops. It never drops

experimental pouco divertido

The first song being purely instrumental, I did enjoy it. The following two songs the vocals are just awful and detract from the music. I had to skip Just a Second as it was grating on my nerves. I like Giggy Smile/Picnic on a Frozen River. (at least the 2nd half of it). So I do enjoy the instrumental songs even if they get a bit weird. Tough to rate this one. It's a Bit of Pain has some really jarring and annoying sounds.

Not a fan

I don’t know what to think of this one. Kinda pop, kinda prog rock, kinda just weird.

Barely music. Ugh. 2 Stars

Bad krautrock! Bad! I wish I could stick Faust's nose in the messy pile they left behind.

Not my thing, but cool if it influenced cool music Solid 2

So so....

The highest compliment I could give this album is that I surprisingly didn't hate it. I might even have enjoyed some of it.

There are moments in and amongst the eclectic variety of jams, but it's a bit too scatter shot for me to really get into. It's too bad because the first track ('Krautrock') really worked for me, so I was stoked to see where it was heading. By the time I got to 'Lauft', I was lost.

I generally like krautrock so was excited to listen to this one, and although I enjoyed parts of the album, some of the songs with more discordant notes were a bit of a turnoff. The first three tracks were all pretty good though.

Mumbly.

Hmmmm. Never heard of this before. Need to hear it again to know if I like it….

After listening to track one, I was discomforted by the thought this was Faust 4, implying there were at least three more. Subsequently, giving a fair listen to the other tracks, I appreciated the soundscaping but I can't ever imagine me saying this is what I want to listen to today

Not my kind of thing, no lo disfruté.

Let's get some brats up in here! 2.5/5

Not too shabby. Found myself groovin’ to Giggy Smile. 2.5.

Psykedelisk rock, industriel stil, eksperimenterende

Although I don't really find this music all that enjoyable -- just a bit too noisy and crashy for me -- it is impressive when I think how long ago they made this album. Not something I want to listen to again, but that's just a matter of personal taste.

Frick that was almost good

Meira krautrock. Áhugavert að sumu leyti, pínu pirrandi stundum, einfalt en þó flókið. Reverbið fyrir allan peninginn.

clumsy, droning and ultimately disappointing. some neat ideas, but nothing worth spending 45 minutes on

I like much of the music here, but oh my do the songs drone on and on. Cut what’s here down to 15 minutes max, and we can talk.

I don't know what "krautrock" is, but it sounds offensive. Like, the name is offensive, but it also "sounds" offensive. Overall, I don't like it. But - Jennifer was a cool song.

Never heard of krautrock, probably never going too again, repeated beats for 7 mins, not my jam

Not for me

Not sure what to expect, but yikes

I think this album is playing with my emotions. It has moments of "yeah, I dig it" and then they destroy all that optimism. The Sad Skinnhead pulled this album up to a two-star review.

No just no

People actually listen to this?

It's... interesting? Tracks are hit and miss, a few were pretty good, others not so much.

Felt like this album didn’t know what it wanted to be. Some times it had rock styles. Other times it was more jazz. Preferred the jazz songs most but overall it was a weird mix and never felt fluid. 4.3/10

Yeah nahh

Not really my thing...at all.
