Really outside of my listening range - not my cup of tea - there should be an unable to rate option!
4/10… indian folk / *1967
It was quite nice, not necessary my taste but i had a hard time getting into it. probably also my fault but i cant give more than 2 stars for it.
Decent 2,5
Hämäävää kun tää levyn kansi on jostain 2012 vuoden versiosta jossa joku Rahuli sharma soitteleepi ja oli jopa ihan kivan kuulosta, mut sit ku syvennyin tähän vyyhtiin ni ollaankin siellä alkulähteillä ja ei ollutkaan enää niin kivaa kuunneltavaa :D Nyt on kyllä intialaista musiikkia kuunneltu tarpeeksi hetkeen. En tiiä onko näillä vuonon kutsuilla mitään yhteisiä tekijöitä ku artistien sukunimi... Annetaan originellille kakkonen
Tän takii mä tähän projektiin lähin.
Although I love listening to world music in this project (and I think it's missing a little bit of that, somehow!), this wasn't for me. It's not that I don't recognize the merits and talent of the artists, but it's just not my kind of preference. And I'm giving it a 2 because I really don't understand or know anything to be able to evaluate it properly. Hey, I know it's my fault, okay?
This was interesting and glad I got exposed to it. Cant say I’m a connoisseur of raga music or tabla etc. but I enjoyed the drumming and tempo changes. However it felt like one long song and was hard to tell them apart if this is supposed to be a shepherds journey through the day. Probably wouldn’t return to it.
Apple Music sent me to a version made in 2012 that lasts about 28 minutes. Thats wrong. Its not even the same cover image. Even the cover image here is wrong. I found it, though. And yes, it checks out. I guess back in 1968 all this sounded extremely new and innovative. And I do appreciate the effort in including music from other parts of the world, specially when it's so uncommercial (by today standards) but this did nothing for me.
I appreciate the opportunity to hear this, but it's pretty harsh to my untrained ears.
Very creative usage of metal kettles
Not a single one of the critics would be able to put to words why this album is on the list. With that said, even though I didnt like the music, it was a great soundtrack to cooking and doing the dishes
not sure what to say about this one. lovely, virtuoso, annoying, forgettable, background music, beautifully mixed, fantastic audio, not interested in listening again.
If I ever travel to India, I hope to have the opportunity to hang out in a village somewhere and listen to a band shred on the tabla and sitar. Otherwise, I'm afraid I will not be listening to this at home. Reminds me of the time I tried to convince myself that I was into Ravi Shankar because some dude who knew a lot more about music than I did worshipped him. Oh well.
Spotify tells me that Shivkumar Sharma "was one of the truly great visionaries" of Hindustani classical music, and I will take their word for it. As a thoroughly Western punk rocker, I have a difficult time parsing this music, because it doesn't seem to vary much. After the first song, it seems like you've heard all that you're going to hear. The notable exception, I'd say, is the 20-minute "Raga Pahadi" with its percussive fireworks and guitar shredding. Otherwise I needed to double check that I hadn't set a song to repeat for an hour.
Yeah, I get it's cultural significance and it's not bad for what it is. It's not for me and that's fine.
Well recorded. Easy to listen to. In a week, the only thing I'll remember is that there was a flute.
It wasn't for me but that doesn't mean it wasn't good.
So some white guys in the 1960s get stoned, think this is the shit, and now this is one of the 1001 albums we need to hear? I mean, sure, it’s pleasant enough, but really, wtf? And yes, I listened the the YouTube version.
Schwierig.
It's an acquired taste, I guess. There are very long slow passages. This is not mainstream listening.
Wierddddddddd
It was ok. That’s the best I can say about it. Had to listen in a couple of chunks as it all just was a bit samey after a bit.
Really not my sort of thing... I don't know if it's good or not...
Serenity now
Soothing
I’d like to buy the world a coke
Felt like I was in a spa - pretty boring.
Good musicians but just not something I would ever listen to. 2 stars or D.
Fine enough for background music. I couldn't hum you any of the tunes again
01) Rag Piloo - 6,5 02) Ahir Bhairav - 6,0 03) Nat Bhairav - 6,0 04) Rag Des - 6,0 05) Bhoop - 5,5 06) Rag Pahadi - 5,0 07) Bageshwari - 4,0 08) Ghara-Dadra - 5,0 TOTAL: 5,50 (55/100) Current ranking: 563/651
sounded okay but i wouldn’t listen again
It was fine
Artistes inconnus. Bonne musique d'ambiance, uniquement instrumentale. =>2/5
Beautiful, relaxing, esoteric vibes. But perhaps I wasn't in the best mood for it today. I can appreciate it, but didn't love it. Maybe something to try again!
Just not my type of music , probably very good for what it is. Very ethereal just not my thing, (listened to on YouTube ) fully taste based 2 stars
I do wish this project had less Western-centric music. Some of these albums are a real stretch to call 'greatest of all time' when you have the whole world of music to choose from. How fun would it be to broaden your music taste across the world instead of just across genres and decades. Now, did I actually enjoy this non Western-centric album? Not at all. It reminded me of jazz in that very -music that goes nowhere kind of way-. But hey, I'm glad I listened to it.
There are some okay moments on here, but most of this just is not for me. It doesn’t help either that I do not enjoy the sitar.
Didn't really capture my interest, outside of the novel fact that these guys influenced the Beatles a lot.
A dope listen, but not something I'll return to.
After recommendation from many of the reviews on this one, I avoided the version on Spotify like the plague and listened to the version on YouTube instead. And to be honest, I really don't see what all the hype is about. Like it's not god awful, but I just don't hear the beautiful atmosphere and complex writing that everyone is talking about. Maybe it will require more listens, but on the whole it really feels like nothing special to me.
Not that it doesn't exhibit endless talent--it just doesn't appeal.
I don’t like instrumentals and this isn’t my vibe
According to other reviews, Spotify has the wrong album. My streaming service (amazon) doesn't offer it. So, I ended up listening on YouTube. I'm not sure if I got the correct one or not. The length of the first song did not line up with what Wikipedia has. this album was OK, maybe I would like it more if i wasn't so concerned about the correctness of it all.
It's pleasant background music. I don't choose to listen to background music.
I liked the remix by his son more, such boring music you really can't listen to it as an album unless you're really trying to become a beatle
Um weird
2.4 2x
I listened to the original on YouTube and the one on Spotify. It isn't really for me, the music is nice but not something I would go out of my way to listen to.
Not my taste sorry. There some nice parts but thats it
Vibey for 8 minutes and then got long quickly
Traditional Indian music. It’s quite lovely but my tolerance for this kind of instrumental cultural music is about 20 minutes or so, then I’m ready to move on.
Would not listen to this on its own.
Indian music. I normally listen to these albums when working, but that was quite difficult for this album. It was not bad, but the droning sounds kept me from focussing. It isnt bad per se, but also quite far from the styles I normally listen to. It is interesting though to read about the history, it being the first (well selling) record that made impact outside of Europe, and influcend great names such as George Harrison. But apart from that, not my style, not my jam :(
Out of my depth
Seems like the kind of music for studying or yoga. Nice relaxing soundscape.
It is enjoyable thought it is, a vibe for music if that’s what you’re looking for. Definitely not something I put on all the time, but if I heard it in your background somewhere, I wouldn’t be upset. I’m sure it’s very influential to music that came out though
not particularly for me but i get why this hit for george harrison’s crazy ass
It was nice, but I can't see myself ever returning to it.
Perfect for massage music
Just didn't know what to make of this.
I am not against instrumental but this didn't really catch me. Bonus points for the artist using an indian instrument that is not mainstream in western media tho
Very meditative but not my thing.
I don’t think I was stoned enough to fully appreciate this one.
This was excessively boring, however not unlistenable
Pleasant enough
couldn’t really finish this. music was nice but didn’t draw me in.
Calming but not my thing.
I loved the bit where the pretty instrumental Indian music was interrupted by a youtube advert. 2 Stars. In all seriousness, pretty but not to my tastes. I could see how others get more out of this.
Stars Twinkling Within //
Pointless
I don't have any issue with the way the music sounds - I don't have the 'ear' I suppose to be able to pinpoint sections of songs, just notice differences in full tracks (which are like 10 minutes long each). Not the music for me, however pleasant.
I didn't find much enjoyment in this album :/
No es para mi o
Seems just a folk album
It was ok, but not my type
Appreciate the musicality, but not really my jam.
I appreciate the cultural music and getting a chance to listen to it. It's just not my cup of tea.
this is cool i guess i don’t really know how to rate it or if i’m THAT big a fan of instrumentals but i’m gonna go 2 here
Pre-listening thoughts: hmm okay instrumental music. I will probably put this on in the background while I work. Post/during listening thoughts: it was great for background noise while I scheduled. It is beautiful but I can’t see myself revisiting this very often. It’s kind of repetitive and a little boring if I’m being honest. Idk. 4/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no I would usually add fav and least fav tracks here, but I listened to a vinyl rip on YouTube and there were no distinctive marks between the tracks. So it was all just kind of one long song. Plus it’s not on Spotify so I can’t add anything to my playlist.
This isn't actively unpleasant, but it's totally not for me. My main takeaway from listening to it is even less respect for George Harrison. So I guess in addition to claiming sole authorship of the worst 5 Beatles songs recorded, he also plagiarized all of them?
Sounds like background music in a new age crystal shop. Basic riffs on a musical theme.
I was gonna give it a 3, because it's certainly well played, and clearly they have talent. But if I'm being honest, there's no chance I'm ever going to seek this out again. I feel like a 3 would warrant another listen. This I'm just done with.
I couldn’t find this album so I’m listening to something to do with a mountain, which is a bit like a valley. So far it is pleasant. I do not like the drum that goes bwoung, it makes me uneasy. VERDICT: by no means unpleasant. Feels absolutely emotionally empty to me as there are no changes in chord or dynamic.
not my cup of tea
Pleasant background music.
Relaxing music.
It was okay, better for background music probably not something I would return to
mhm
Okay, but no, you cannot convince me that there is a "story" to this "concept" album which sounds more like the soundtrack to a Satyajit Ray film than an album.
Listened to this one in the bath. Fun but it went on a bit.
Not much to say about this one other than it was pleasant and I can see the journey through a day as a shepherd through the music. Not something I’ll return to, though.
I mean i guess it's a good representation of Indian music. Not really my thing. Also, it was really hard to find this album as it's shown in the list.
Fuck the Valleys!
More like borophyll
Soothing enough. Not really my thing but pleasant ambling background music.
Fine A few nice moments Fairly unmemorable Fine
Museum exhibit core. Stimulating on the imagination yet at the same time strikingly repetitive and bland
Now this could just be the fact that I don't know much about this type of music or understand it well, but it just sounds a little random quite often and a little bit boring. Also the version on Spotify is not the correct version, I listened to a version of the original album on YouTube.
Background music. Tough to do active listening with this but totally fine otherwise. Fav Track: Ode To The Sun God
Searched this one out on YouTube as was the suggestion and I just couldn’t get into it. Just sounded like an extended Within You Without You but without George and less interesting.
46/100
Indian music. Good musically but would not listen to again
Not convinced Apple Music have this album, linked to something called music of the valley instead. Sounded like I should have been in a spa having my eyelids cucumbered.
I mean it’s cool just not for me
Quite nice to have on in the background. Haven't had anything else like this. Don't think I'll be rushing back though
Puh. Mal was anderes. Aber eher zum Meditieren geeignet
Calming but not something I would normally listen too
Get used to this album. It's the music they play in heaven. 24/7.
Cool but not really my thing.
its relaxin and nothing to crazy. I guess i listened to the right version. It said instrumental but the tracklist is right and i don't feel like lyrics wasn't necessary for this project. Nothing too crazy and great use of instruments (2.5/5.0
I found this like jazz improvisation in that one track dissolved into another like everyone is doing their own thing. Good background music for yoga maybe but not really my thing 2*
Pleasant and all but I'm not likely to come back to it.
Sitar (or dulcimer?) and flute, background music for a relaxation massage.
It's okay. Not my normal jam. Seems like it would be good elevator or mediation music.
Not my thing
Sleepy? Mood
Too much of the same thing throughout the album.
Interesting and melodic but not my cup of tea
Indian musak, like background music for an indian restaurant
I had a hard time finding the correct album. The one on Spotify appears to be a cover of the original by other artists, more of the light jazz sort of treatment. I can appreciate the talent of the musicians and the affect this album had on many people around the world, but it's not my thing. I'm glad I listened to it, but am unlikely to listen again.
I don't understand, is this supposed to be Rahul Sharma on the list or his father? Because it links to the album performed by Rahul but the list indicates Shivkumar
Indian classical music, a little tiring
I made the effort and listened on YouTube, it’s not as bad as it easily could have been, but there’s no way I’d listen to this by choice.
TOO LONG
It’s exactly what I expected it to be.
Offensively inoffensive
jag tänker inte ens försöka idc
Niet echt mn ding
I really don't know how to take something like this in. It's spiritual sounding, tribal, drums, sitar, and flute forward. It says this album follows a day in the life of an Indian shepherd where the music invokes the time of day to advance the narrative. How anyone was able to gather that is beyond me. This is not horrible, but it is not good either unless I'm standing at the Epcot World Showcase pavillion at Disney World. That's what it feels and sounds like to me. Not that it's a bad thing, but it's environmental music. That's it.
Na ja. Mal ein Stück gut zu hören. Aber irgendwann gleich.
I could only find the one song on Spotify but I did enjoy it! It’s not something that I would rush to listen to but on my pre-dawn work days I could totally see throwing this on.
I could almost hear Metallica at times on that first track. What kind of crazy influence did this Hindustani classical music have on the future of British and American rock music!? Or, well, nevermind? That was some other version of “Call of the Valley” by Shivkumar’s son Rahul? Amazon Music led me astray. YouTube set me back on the path, but unfortunately I found that I dug the son’s album more. But it looks like it was from 2012, so it was not the influencer I thought it was. Instead it was more of the circle of influence coming back around? The original “Call of the Valley” is not nearly as interesting. I had thought that I dug traditional and modern Indian music, but the little we’ve encountered on the 1001 hasn’t impressed as much as I’d hoped.
Tricky, tricky, tricky. Finding the right album that is. I’m still not 100% sure I found it. I did listen to three different albums, so think I heard it. Third, I went to YouTube where the track list matched the Wikipedia track list. I’d turn this album off before listening all the way through. Second, I searched Call Of The Valley on AppleMusic and found an album with the right cover. However, it was from 2012, none of the artists match, and neither do any of the track names. First, I used the 1001generator link and two of the artist names match (Sharma and Chaurasia), but the track names are wrong and the album title is Soundscapes - Music Of The Valkeys. This album is really good (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) and only 20 minutes long, an advantage. I’m rating based on the third find, which I’m pretty sure is the right one…unfortunately because the first option is by far the best.
Pleasant enough, but not that interesting. I'd give it about 2.5 stars out of 5, but I can't, so I think I'll probably give it 2.
Nice enough to have on in the background while I was working, but not exactly memorable!
Not really my thing
Did not spark any emotions, got me very bored
¿Pero qué estamos? ¿En la consulta de un dentista? ¿En espera al teléfono?
To be honest, ordinarily I'm not a fan of Indian music, mainly because I can't stand the sound of the sitar. This however, was interesting, it was calming and more classical Indian/Hindu music, and I listened to the whole album, and the musical composition and quality of playing the instruments was quite good. It wouldn't be an album I would reach for again, but it would be easy listening if it was already playing in the background.
I was hoping to like this more. 2.5 stars.
¿Pero qué estamos? ¿En la consulta de un dentista? ¿En espera al teléfono?
Not for me.
bit boring for me
classical cross over ahhhhh it’s good enough
Did the Spotify thing, which was OK, then the Youtube version as advised, and it was actually less impressive. Not my thing, but interesting nonetheless
Way too muzak for my liking.
Mächtig Plingpling mit ein wenig Kreuzundquerflöte.
Delighted to listen to it. Delighted to know I won't be listening again. There's no doubting the quality, and obviously you have to acknowledge its influence in the year of 1967, when every Western band suddenly looked East, but as a whole piece, it doesn't do it for me. I'm very willing to take responsibility for that on my Westernised ears though.
You can say this is timeless in the sense that, to my ear, this could just have easily have been produced today as 1967. But I probably wouldn't listen to it today either. It's not bad for focus music, though. I could put it in the "put my head down and grind this work out" playlist.
I think it is telling in and of itself that I saved these classical Indian entries from last. This is better than the last I listened to (didn't make my head hurt) but I still can't fully engage. High 2, but glad to be done.
I have no clue if what I listened to was correct but it was ok. Probably good for what it is but what it is is not for me. Also seemed like there was a pet whistle used that hurt my ears
- it’s good for what it is but it’s not my style of music
At 20 minutes I thought at least it will be quick. Not quick enough for me I’m afraid. It’s not bad, it’s just not the kind of music I enjoy.
Did not like.
Meh
Beautiful but quite boring. I’d need to be very busy or very stoned to appreciate this fully
Was an interesting listen and I can see the inspiration and how some rock artist incorporated these sounds into there works.
Not as bad as i was expecting. Still never listening to this again
I never really wanted to turn it off, so that's good. But I didn't enjoy it, and I'll never put it on again. Maybe it's super important to what was going on in the 60s, but it's not for me.
interesting but not my thing
Respect the craft but I just cannot listen to this much in one go. The sound is not attractive to my ears.
Ugh…
This was just boring. And honestly, doing work to it was really agitating. The loud pitches made me annoyed and frustrated. It wasn’t as peaceful as I thought it might be which would be the only positive. It wasn’t terrible though nor offensive- no lyrics so how could it be, so i’ll give it that.
2.5
The Valley called and I sent it straight to voicemail. Boring, boring album.
It was okay as background music but not really the style I listen to.
Äh men lägg av.
Sitar overdose.
When I was a kid my mum used to take to me the garden centre, and for some reason they used to sell CDs of instrumental relaxation music with weird names like “gentle panpipe”. You could press buttons to hear a sample of each one and I always wondered who bought them. Anyway this reminded me of one of those, or the music from an assassins creed game.
I really tried my best with this one, but I just simply could not get myself into it. I guess it was alright background noise for work, but I couldn't envision myself using it for any more than that.
Values) { foreach (var nextPayment in nextPayments) { if(nextPayment.currencyCode == "EUR") { if (payElementsToReverseSign.
Just ok. Not generally my style
Videopelin taustamusaksi kelpaavaa, ei oikein muuta käyttöä.
Ei ollut niin paha kuin sopi olettaa. Meni taustalla melko kivuttomasti
Pleasant offerings from the Indian scene but unremarkable overall. 2.
Fine, pleasant background music, but did nothing to inspire me. Wouldn't turn it off if it was on in the background, but would never seek it out. Beautiful, gentle sound, but nothing more. 2/5.
It shouldn't be this challenging to find this album. And I mean that both literally and figuratively.
This is apparently some hugely important album in introducing western audiences to traditional Indian music but given that there’s stuff like RRR now this is definitely quaint. It’s not bad but it’s not something that caught my interest like some of the African music has. Overall was just bored through the whole thing.
Couldn't find the whole album. Just the one song. I'm going to rate it as if the song represents the album.
It's hard to be harsh on something so innocuous... though i really wouldn't be able to tell you if it was 40 minutes of changing music or the same 1 minute on a loop. I know that's on me, but it doesn't do anything for me and not something i enjoy, even as background music.
Am sure it's a great example of Sitar music, but can't sit here and listen to an album's worth. 2 to be generous
2 sterren.
2.5
not my thing 5/10
Instrument indisk musik, world, meget atmosfærisk, en dag som hyrde
(Sigh)
Would be some shit the Beatles would listen to
I see why this was included since this music had such a huge influence on popular bands in the 60s/70s, but it just couldn’t hold my interest
Not terrible, but I kept wanting to turn it off.
Dne on apple music maybe, but what i found was vibey
Okay I guess
No aporta nada especial.
Unexpected music popping up here
I have a cultural respect for this, but yeah, not for me.
I don’t personally like world music all too much but eh I have to do it I guess, and also the tracklist on spotify isn’t matching up with the one on wikipedia so I’ll just go with the spotify one… Ode to the sun god opens the album with a 9 minute instrumental it’s interesting background noise but I really can’t get by all instrumental albums. Nomads in the valley wasn’t necessarily the same but it followed the same kinda concept as the last song eh. The shepherd girl is a bit more unique and is the most guitar led on the album so far so while I still am not a fan of 12 minute long instrumentals I can cope with this ( well I could cope with half of it but this was boring). The prophet in the mountain was alright I guess short for this album (still a whopping 8 minutes though). The penultimate track the stars twinkling within sounded very lush not an amazing song but still good. The closer glacier waters is so tranquil I don’t like it but I gotta pride it for that. I’ll give it a 2 because it isn’t my kinda music but it’s still passable I guess.
It is Indian music, so naturally the sitar is present. The music was not overbearing. I have no need to listen to it again.
could be contemporary new age music, this is not a good thing
Interesting album, not bad, something a bit different than the normal classical music.
I don’t get it.
Pretty, but resolutely background. I appreciate that my ears are uneducated for this Indian classical music.
I just couldn't get on with it. May need further listening on a Sunday morning with nothing else to do but until then it's a 2.
A bunch of very talented musicians combining to make a thing that's somehow less than the sum of its parts.
Fínasta Sítardútl.
Indian classical music. Mellow. Tablas.
Not unpleasant just very dull.
I truly have no idea why this is on the list, even going by play counts alone (a poor metric, granted) it doesn't belong and after playing it all I can say is that it was pleasant but in no way at all standout.
it sounds like an intersting background theme for in a game or something to set the mood but graciously. I wouldnt listen to it normally its too simple
I like a bit of sitar but to be honest i didn't make it to the end of the album
2.8 - Tourist towns across America have the one shop that sells “ethnic” shit: Tibetan rugs, brass Buddha figurines, handwoven hacky sacks, incense cones, crystals… And this is the type of approachable “ethnic” music they have playing.
Music for a rich lady to get a spa treatment by. I don't like it.
Bit of a hidden gem. Nice in the background but can't see myself really listening again.
I wouldn't say its necessarily music I would listen to again and again, or go back to, but this is why the 1001 list is a good idea. Can tell its obvious importance and influence.
Apparently this is a traditional / classical Indian album, but it felt.. watered down for me. Major scales, mostly western instrumentation, etc.
Music for smoking pot or a cheap Chinese restaurant.
Pleasant but unmemorable. No stand-out tracks. Good for being different but it hasn't tempted me into a repeat listen.
4/10
Lullaby music from what I heard. Maybe good to study to.
Fine background music but not for me
This was a hard slog. I respect the talent and the cultural significance of an Indian album influencing western mainstream but not for me. Can’t give this a one star because the other one stars I gave so I’ll give it 2.
Just noodling about on a bunch of instruments that don't really excite me. I'd probably love this if I was a stoner in the mid 60s and wasn't waiting for the Beatles to go to India and take acid.
Am I glad I listened to this? Yes, did I enjoy this...not to sure. I really like the concept and theory, just not sure if it can be executed
Not really for me. Decent enough I suppose
Felt like I was listening to a middling RPG soundtrack.
its very different to say the least ..
Just a quick ambient album that uses eastern and microtonal instruments. Pleasing to listen to as the musicians jam and develop their sound across each song. It was alright, but nothing special in my mind.
Appreciated more than enjoyed. Wont revisit.
It was ok, I got bored with it though, again not my thing really.
Bored by the end. Too long.
Un po' troppo elettrica per me
It’s fine. It sounds like those guys who hang out at faires and play lutes trying to sell their “Sounds of the Wind” album. This is great if you like feeling like you’re laying in a valley listening to birds and the grass is starting to itch and you know you’re supposed to keep listening and relaxing and enjoying it but at the same time you’re really wondering how long you have to listen and people won’t judge you.
An interesting listen but admittedly not really my thing.
excellent Weather Channel music
Nice background music, but too slow to be fun.
Ploing. Tuut. Piep. Plönk. Glubb. Zum Klischee verkommener Bahnbrecher. Traurig irgendwie.
Not my thing but interesting.
Aint my thing
nope!
This is terrible. I listened to the Spotify version for 10 minutes and got totally anxious. So I dropped it and gave it a 1 star ranking. Then I listened to the YouTube version, which seems to be the original. But again, I just can't stand that one instrument that sounds like a whining guitar. So the 1 isn't going to change.
It's not that bad, but at the same time I'm fairly certain I'm never ever gonna put this on again Some of it really sounds like Age of Empires II music The problem with this is that I don't hate it but I can't give it much more than 1 star as there's really nothing in it for me 1.6
I HAD to listen to this before I die?! Maybe it’s ok if it was background music while I was eating in an Indian restaurant, but I can’t imagine ever wanting to put this on to listen. I’m sure the musicians are/were top notch, but I still don’t want to hear it. This must’ve been the 1001st album on the list.
I like Indian music and I’ve heard this before. It’s fine, but the westernizing touches aren’t necessary. I haven’t listened to this here because the link to Spotify is to some knock off version. The original doesn’t see to be available.
Godda be in the mood for it
Gets on the list for being the first raga album to hit the states and grab the attention of some famous rock artists. If not for that, sounded like all other classical raga. Hard to decipher individual songs. I imagine Indian people listen to Rock and Roll and think it all sounds the same. I prefer the Ravi raga with faster pace and energy. Call of the Valley was very slow. Peaceful but boring. Glad I got to listen and further my musical culture but most likely not visiting the valley again. 1.18 stars.
I can understand why this gained some popularity in the music world when Indian influence was getting some exposure in the late 60's. I assume the nod from The Beatles and the like is the real reason this gained traction and ended up on this list. Otherwise I'm not sure how this breaks out compared to any other Indian music I've heard. It's an OK example of the style and associated instruments but not something I would go out of my way for otherwise. While the individual pieces are fine the full album feels a little repetitive as I wasn't able to differentiate much between the tracks. Better than some of the other world music entries on this list, worse than others. Either way glad for the single listen for exposure but not something I'll return to. 1.31 stars
musica tradizionale indiana, non il mio
I didn't enjoy this. I feel a bit uncomfortable saying that about a non-western artist, but that's silly really, as I don't enjoy specific genres (death metal for example) and wouldn't worry about stating my thoughts on that, so why would it be different for Hindustani classical music? I don't like the droning sound that punctuated a lot of this, and something about that, plus the syncopated rhythms that were happening, made me feel really anxious at points. Something that this album and certain trance/dance albums have weirdly in common. I would like a 1.5 star, as it's not close to the album I've enjoyed least during this project, but if I were to give it 2, that would be way overselling my enjoyment. I fully accept this was influential, but I did not like it. So a 1 it is. 1/5
I try to keep an open mind about international stuff, but this shit sucked. To quote Jim from the Office: "Do you take requests? Please stop."
This was a tough listen. it is safe to say, i will never, ever, listen to this one again. i felt like i was in some bad Indian restaurant.
Painful I did not enjoy. I did not even find relaxing
Found out the version I listened to on Spotify was not the original, and I have no desire to go to Youtube to listen to the original. I guess that sums up my feelings about this album.
Well this was a bit of a mission to even get started. I spent the first half hour this morning listening to completely the wrong album via Apple Music before realising it was a remake by his son. That version wasn’t great. I eventually found the original Call of the Valley by Shivkumar Sharma on YouTube, which was a much better experience. The actual album is musically haunting and genuinely beautiful. It’s very chilled, very relaxed, and works perfectly as background music. You can just let it wash over you. That said, it does lack variety. It all blends into one long, continuous piece, and while it’s lovely, it doesn’t really give you any standout moments to hold onto. I can appreciate how good it is, but it’s not something I’d go back to. It feels more like an experience than an album you revisit for specific tracks. Favourite tracks: Ahir Bhairav_Nat Bhairav is probably the closest to a standout, although it could have been a bit shorter. Least favourite tracks: It all blends into one, so nothing really stands out either way. Album artwork: Nice, simple cover that fits the tone of the music.
???
Would give this zero
Background yoga studio music
davigale aseti yleobebit
With each of these absolutely terrible, boring albums I just get more and more upset that there isn’t a single Ween album on this list.
1,3/5
What is this crap. It’s grating on my nerves I can’t stand a second of this. And yeah I went and listened to the original on YouTube. I mean if we don’t have rando euro folk or classical why would we have Indian classical? Anyway this is unlistenable one star.
Just really got on my nerves. Turns out I hate the flute
Nope. Nope. Nope. Unless I"m getting a massage, this is not my jam
Siis mitä helvetin vittua nyt oikeesti
I dont even know if I listened to the right thing. Wjatever i listened to gave me a headache. For those reasons it's getting my first 1. Youve dropped your eggs on the floor before you could cook em.
This was boring sorry
Just no
Absolute wank
The music doesn’t interest me
Just fucking shit. If read dead redemption 2 was set in india this is what you would be hearing in the background
I’m pretty sure I listened to the right album, but I didn’t really like it at all. To meandering, felt pointless
Day734 - that my friend was hard to get through. wind chimes and a flute does not make must listen to anything
This is horrible. Skip this and just listen to Ravi Shankar’s “Three Ragas” album instead.
no offence
ok it's hard to listen to 70 minutes of this
Every song sounds the same. Sitar and water drum. 2/10
Yea fine
Not for me!
The more albums I hear, the more I feel the authors were just picking random shit like this as fillers. They never heard a spanish rock album ever
Olipahan pimputusta.
Ihan kamalaa kuunneltavaa, suorastaan korvia raastavaa.
