I’ve always hated Pearl Jam but don’t think I’ve ever listened to this album all through. It has all the elements I remember: terrible irritating singing, annoying wah wah guitar, predictable builds, half time ride drums, …. The snare drum is so bad. Alive had some promise but the verse starts and Eddie’s pronunciation of Daddy killed it. Boring guitar solo - way too long - doing the same thing over and over. What is with the wah wah?!? Why go? Sounds just like Evenflow but somehow worse. Right and left channel guitars must be the 2 guitarists. Telephone effect at the beginning of Black - why was this a thing? I can see this being a favourite at festivals. Best one so far but not saying much. He finally holds what sounds like a nice long note and then ruins it at the end with a “yeah ha!” Can’t believe how well I know Jeremy after all these years. I guess that says something. Well crafted song but they drag it out too much with the “hoo hoo hoo” stuff. I guess Jeff Buckley was a fan of Oceans. The flanger vocal is horrible. Sometimes the lyrics sound like something from the rhcp especially on Porch. This B side is very lacklustre so far. Deep sounds like it was just jammed out in the studio. Oh god is Release their Indian phase in a song? Raga esque in the cheapest way possible. Is the last song a hidden track? Revisiting the first song? Oof…this whole B side is throw away - should have just had an EP with side A

I could do without the actual whisper. Recording is so clean - maybe too clean. Fast car is great - her voice is so consistent and perfect. I think it could benefit with a little more variation and roughness. Every verse is delivered with exactly the same intensity. Would be nice to hear some breaking in her voice sometimes. This song could have been half the length and still delivered the same emotion. The music sounds like it’s programmed. Some weird chord choices at the end of verses for interludes- like almost whimsical for such a serious song. Whoa - acapella with no reverb - interesting choice. Baby can I hold you tonight- wish it had real strings and less keyboard sounds. Sitar? It’s like they were just going through presets in the studio. Mountains sounds like music from Monkey Island video game. Ticket - delay instead of reverb in the voice. Reggae fills - reminds of that Brazilian bass player. Music is incongruous with the lyrics. For my lover - great song, kept it relatively simple production wise- couldn’t resist with another weird preset at that one point and maybe a little too straight ahead but best after fast car so far. Wish they used the production of the last song on the rest of the album.
What a coincidence! Reference to Tracy Chapman - yesterday’s album! Great sense of humour- killer flow from Lauren. Great references
Perfect
Battery sounds like punk. The thing that should not be sounds like a heavy Rush.
