Michael Jackson
3/5
Good debut from Michael. A little too disco sounding for me and prefer his next couple of albums after this one. Still enjoyable.
David Gray
4/5
I enjoyed this album more than I thought I would. Babylon is the song most people know, but deeper tracks like Please Forgive Me, Sail Away, and others make this a great album and easy to listen all the way through.
Frank Sinatra
4/5
Pop Music before Rock and R&B started to take over. Sinatra's voice was amazing and the standards still sound good today.
The Black Crowes
5/5
This is one of my all time favorite albums. The Robinson brothers created a rock classic. Twice as Hard is a great lead song and Sister Luck is an amazing deep track. Southern Rock at its finest.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
3/5
Costello on thus album straddled pop and punk sensibilities on this album. It was like Buddy Holley meets the Ramones. Costello for me has always been an artists where I would probably love a Greatest Hits album, but that's about it.
The Beach Boys
1/5
Not even going to pretend I liked this.
Morrissey
2/5
Morrissey is not my cup of tea. Aome of the music was really good, but I am not a fan of his style of singing.
Dirty Projectors
1/5
Nope. Not my jam. This album feels like what would happen if the White Stripes tried something a little more Jazzy.
Hole
4/5
A grunge classic. Cobain's influence in this album is unmistakable as many songs have a very Nirvana-esque sound. Album is found on many best of the 90's lists.
The Specials
3/5
Ska forefathers on a great mix of punk, raegge, and pop sensibilities. Hard to believe Now Doubt or the Bosstones were not influenced by this album
Fela Kuti
3/5
Musicality is amazing. The influences on funk is apparent and listening to a master drummer like Ginger Baker is always a treat.
Elastica
4/5
Enjoyable. I am surprised they were just a one hit wonder in the US. If you like Garbage (the band) you will like this album.
Queens Of The Stone Age
4/5
Good album..Very Bowie-esque.
Bad Company
3/5
Decent 70's rock.
The Divine Comedy
1/5
Glad it was short.
Leonard Cohen
2/5
Cohen's music was more on the sorrowful side for singer/songwriters of the time. I find him to be part Bob Dylan and part Neil Diamond. I am sure this description would get me in trouble with Cohen fans.
fIREHOSE
4/5
Enjoyed this album. Reminded me of The Replacements and Soul Asylum. A great surprise.
Madonna
4/5
Madonna's dive into electronic music was very successful. Frozen and Ray of Light are great songs abs Swim is a good deep cut
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
3/5
Great Debut that has two of the biggest songs they have.
Michael Jackson
5/5
9 songs, 7 of them #1 hits (or at least top 10). Amazing album that did establish Michael as the King of Pop. Not much else to say.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
2/5
Cinnamon Girl is my favorite Neil Young song, but the rest of it you can have.
Hanoi Rocks
1/5
This...this is not good. First Album I could not finish
Dusty Springfield
4/5
Wow. Dusty had such a soulful and powerful voice. Adele wishes she was Dusty.
The Rolling Stones
5/5
Amazing album. Very Bluesy.
Cypress Hill
4/5
Queen
3/5
Not my favorite by them, but there are some good songs here.
Kanye West
4/5
Fugees
4/5
I passed on this album when I was in college. After listening to it now, I wish I would not have. This is a great hip hop album and it makes me wish they would have continued making music together.
Traffic
2/5
Musically this a good album, but no song stands out.
The The
2/5
Typical 80s New Wave. Not my favorite.
Spiritualized
3/5
Some highs and lows on this album. Nothing I really want to listen to again.
The Smiths
2/5
Depeche Mode
3/5
Good Album. I like the different styles of music they have.
ABBA
4/5
Amazing album. Hits include Dancing Queen and Fernando, but deeper songs like Money, Money, Money and Knowing Me, Knowing You make this a great album.
Jurassic 5
4/5
Jurassic 5 ranks up there with ATCQ as one of the best hip hop crews of all time.
3/5
A tale of two concerts. First half is Dylan as his acoustic folk singer self and the second half he brings the electricity. My biggest complaint is I think Dylan tends to drag his songs out. This album is a great example of the different styles of music Dylan straddled ar the time.
The Fall
1/5
No notes, just not good.
Foo Fighters
4/5
The debut of the Foo Fighters was excellent alternative rock. Grohl did the heavy lifting on the album playing all of the instruments. The first three songs had heavy rotation on alternative rock stations and who can forget the video for Big Me?
Echo And The Bunnymen
2/5
I am getting the feeling the 80s were just New Wave.
Le Tigre
1/5
File under: not my jam
3/5
British invasion album, that sounds like Beatles outtakes. Not a bad album overall.
Barry Adamson
3/5
Very eclectic. The good songs are really good, but there are some real head scratchers
The Cure
3/5
Not bad. Some of the songs get a little long.
Mercury Rev
3/5
Pink Floyd
5/5
Pink Floyd at their best. Watters' examination of fame and its downside is amazing. I have become Comfortably Numb.
Jeru The Damaja
4/5
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
Somewhere between Leonard Cohen and Gordon Lightfoot
Buffalo Springfield
4/5
This was a great album. Very Eclectic with many different styles of music represented. I really enjoyed it.
Marilyn Manson
4/5
Not their debut, but for many this album was their introduction to Mansion and his message. You can hear Reznor's influence all over this album as it feels like a NIN album. I would give 3.5 stars, but will round up.
The Slits
1/5
Post Punk Album that does not hit right notes for me.
Eurythmics
3/5
Good 80s Electric synth rock/pop. Annie Lennox voice is always amazing. The album can get a little repetitive, but still solid.
The Byrds
3/5
Psychedelic rock. Not bad
Dinosaur Jr.
2/5
Alt Rock pioneers with album that I would have liked nire if it wasn't for their tribute to loud screeching feedback Don't. I wish someone wouldd have said Don't when they were deciding to put this on the album.
Roxy Music
2/5
The Lemonheads
4/5
IMO The Lemonheads are a forgotten and underrated alt-rock act. Evan Dando was able to craft catchy, almost, pop rock tunes. The album is led by the title track and their cover of Mrs. Robinson, but there are deeper tracks that are worth a listen.
Joan Baez
2/5
Talented singer, not my style of music though.
Primal Scream
3/5
John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers
4/5
Great blues album
Lauryn Hill
5/5
Truely a Hip-Hop classic. Ms. Hill is an amazing singer and skillful Rap artist and she shows off both skills on this album. Her musings on love and relationships still resonate today
The Band
4/5
The Band was a great mix of Rock, Blues, Folk music. This album is anchored by The Weight, but there are many other great songs.
Eric Clapton
4/5
Good album with Clapton proving why he is a guitar God. The album is anchored by I Shot the Sheriff, but also has Let It Grow and Hand Jive.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
4/5
No one did raegge like Marley. The album still sounds fresh today.
Sade
3/5
Amazing voice, just not my style
Alice In Chains
5/5
We don't talk enough about this band. Underrated and Overlooked from the grunge scene. This album is great and painful at the same time.
M.I.A.
3/5

3/5
John Prine
3/5

4/5
Iggy Pop
2/5
Title track and that's about it for me.
The Pogues
4/5
This was a fun album. I can only imagine they influenced bands like Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, and Mumford and Sons.
Slipknot
3/5
Frank Black
2/5
This album was way too long. For every song that was decent, there were 2 or 3 that were not good.
Slint
1/5
15 minutes of nature sounds to end the album. What the hell? Not sure how this album got on the list.
Fatboy Slim
4/5
Probably my favorite example of Electronic/House/Techno music that came out.
Brian Eno
3/5
Background music at best. It's pretty, but not something you would listen to primarily.
Massive Attack
4/5
This Trip Hop album is amazing. Solid beats and musicality. The guest lead vocalists are great.
Deep Purple
3/5
This is an album that if you are big Deep Purple fan, you probably love hearing the band jam out on their songs. My exposure to the band is limited, so while I can appreciate the musicianship, this is not one of my favorites.
The Only Ones
3/5
Gang Starr
4/5
Yes
4/5
Listening to Yes reminds me if my Dad
Beastie Boys
5/5
This is one of the greatest Hip Hop albums of all-time. Layers of samples matching the lyrics. Amazing.
Manic Street Preachers
4/5
This album was a surprise. Never heard of this band, but enjoyed this album. The topics were bleak, but the lyrics and music were amazing.
Flamin' Groovies
3/5
Had no idea what I was getting into, but this was not bad. Really enjoyed their cover of Louie Louie.
Elvis Presley
4/5
Classic album that shows off what Elvis was. Not laden with hits, but a solid debut.
Jimi Hendrix
3/5
Elton John
4/5
This is a great album. Elton explores lots of different sounds and styles here.
Basement Jaxx

Jane's Addiction
4/5
This album makes me wish Jane's would not have had so many starts and stops as a band. Great album.
The Louvin Brothers
4/5
Liked this more than I thought I would. Early country/Bluegrass with great harmonies and guitar playing.
Joy Division
2/5
Bleak and brooding, this album is not an easy listen. Influence on 80 Now wave and early alternative music is evident.

There is no need for a 69 song album. Most of the songs seemed to be written to make the band and their friends laugh. I will give them credit that they mixed up musical styles fir the songs, but you almost have to given the volume of songs.

I have to say this album has not aged well. I used to love it when it first came out, but the sexual themes are old and tired and make them sound like a safer version of 2 Live Crew. The Humpty Dance and Dowatchyalike are still fun songs, but other songs fall flat today.

"You are now about to witness the strength of street knowledge." This line is the intro to the album and from there it is depiction of life in South Central LA. Raw and unfiltered we hear stories that will make you angry and uncomfortable. Ice Cube was the primary lyricist and you see the talent Dr. Dre had as a producer. Given current race relations in the US, the frustration in this album still resonates today. A masterpiece.

The true test of any great album for me is if it was released today, would it still be relevant. Fear checks that box for me as Chuck D and the crew were exploring Social Justice and Race topics that still are needed today. This is an important album that any fan of hip-hop needs to listen to and appreciate

Given this was the last album that was released while Johnny was still living, the song choices and how they are arranged is very poignant. The album listens like a man who knows he is about to die and is reflecting on his life. There are apologies, defiance, and regret expressed throughout this album. Truely amazing.

If your are looking for complex music, The White Stripes are not for your. Jack and Meg White were always good at breaking music down to its most basic elements and Elephant was their magnum opus. I thoroughly enjoy this album everytime listen to it. From the bombastic Seven Nation Army, to the bluesy Ball and Biscuit, and to the more gentle You've Got Her in Your Pocket The White Stripes givrs us an excellent and very accessible album.

Quirky band with quirky songs that somehow gained momentum and popularity much further down the road after the release of this album. Most people know Blister in the Sun, but there are so many good songs on this debut. Please Don't Go is one of my favorite deeper tracks and Gone Daddy Gone is another great song. A great listen all around.

I loved this album when it first came out as it was different than the other nu-metal albums it was lumped into. They balanced hip-hop and singing very well. The themes of anger, sadness, and hopelessness play a little differently given Chester Bennington's suicide, but this album still bangs today.

Another album that has not aged well. When it came out, they were at the peak of their popularity, but now most of this is just whiny fake rage that appealed to Frat Boys and Bros back in the day. My Way and Rollin' are still ok as songs, but overall this is a miss. Also albums that end with laughter on a loop and voicemails/phone conversations is lazy and dumb. No one cares.

IMO one of the greatest Hip Hop albums of all time. Really one of the last great old school records. LL balances humor, sensuality, and bravado on this record. It does not disappoint.

This album always has sounded like Kurt Cobain's suicide note to me. The songs chosen really showcased the pain Cobain was feeling at that time. A man struggling to find his self-worth, not feeling worthy of praise and love. The simple arrangements allowed Kurt to shine and show his musical acumen. An amazing performance.
