Listening to this, I got the feeling that it’s time we revisit the narrative around Courtney Love and start giving, because in hindsight, a lot of the flack she took around Cobain’s death seems fairly misogynistic now, and this album shows she really was a unique female voice in alternative rock. That being said, the album feels a little of its time now, with a lot of stop-start, quiet-loud, glitzed-up grunge dynamics. The “wall of guitars sound” production also made it feel samier than it provably needed to.
